Juventus' new 2015-16 adidas jerseys
have officially arrived

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/7/1/8875999/juventus-2015-16-kits-adidas

Jul 1, 2015

When Juventus announced its new six-year deal with adidas for around €140 million back in late October, the understandable first thing we noticed was the kind of financial impact it will have. That's a nice chunk of change and a step in the right direction when you consider the long-standing deal with Nike that came to an end.

But there's another important factor in all of this, and it's a pretty easy one to figure out — what they're going to look like.

From the day the deal was announced, Juventus and adidas seemed like a pretty good match. They both like stripes on their clothing, they both like things with black and white color schemes, and it's not the first time adidas would be utilizing those two colors together.

The first day in July has brought us a new Juventus website, a new look to the squad as contracts have expired and new players officially begin their careers in Turin and, most importantly when it comes to this, the beginning of the adidas era at Juventus. That means we get to check out what our favorite players in bianconero will be wearing come next season.

Well....

I don't know. Maybe I thought the first run of kits would be adidas trying to make a really, really good impression. The home kit is nice, and it always seems to look better once we actually see it in action on the field in the first couple of friendlies and regular-season games. And the most noticeable addition to the home jersey besides the obvious Scudetto and Coppa Italia badges? Not one, not two, but three stars right above the Juventus crest.

See, not so bad. I can live with it.

(Side note: We knew there was going to be no silver star to signify 10 Coppas because a certain Juventus President by the name of Andrea Agnelli told us so after the season came to an end. So as much as it would have been nice to see three gold stars as well as a silver one, it's not like this is something that can be considered a surprise to anybody.)

But that away kit...oh my goodness. Where to begin? I guess the good thing is that it's the away kit and won't be worn unless it's totally necessary. But yeah, it's not something that comes close to the pink kits we've seen Juventus wear over the last decade or two.

I'd say the keeper kit has potential. Consider the fact that Gigi Buffon makes just about any keeper kit look good because he's a badass, so there's hope for it. Silver and black work well together, which means there won't be any kind of loud of obnoxious colors being worn by our beloved captain next season.

Then again, I'm no fashion expert and wore basketball shoes with my khakis to work yesterday, so what do I know. (But they're adidas shoes, so I guess I get some bonus points, right).

Del Piero: ‘Juventus still favourites’

http://www.football-italia.net/68594/del-piero-%E2%80%98juventus-still-favourites%E2%80%99?

Jul 2, 2015

Alessandro Del Piero believes Juventus are ‘still in pole’ for the Scudetto race, but is intrigued by ‘big investments’ elsewhere.

The Bianconeri legend will be a pundit for Sky Italia next season, and gave his opinion on the campaign ahead.

“Our League has had difficulties but [last season] we had three teams in the final stages in Europe,” Del Piero told the TV channel.

“There’s work to be done on the problems in our football, there has to be a willingness to go deep and continue this Italian movement.

“The season ahead? There has been a willingness to make big investments, there have been coaching changes, revolutions.

“Juventus are still in pole position, because they’ve won for the last four years, and have a solid structure. They moved quickly with buying and selling, and have clear ideas.

“That said, there’s still time to see who will rival them for the Scudetto.”

What's the Outlook for Juventus'
Fringe Players in 2015-16?

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2515126-whats-the-outlook-for-juventus-fringe-players-in-2015-16?

Jul 7, 2015

As Juventus prepare for the 2015/16 season, much has changed for the Italian giants. Last term saw the Bianconeri enjoy their most successful in many years, a Champions League final appearance capping a campaign in which they also lifted both the Serie A crown and the Coppa Italia.

Marking only the third time the club had completed a domestic double, players like Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez decided it was the perfect time to move on to a new adventure. In addition, backup players like Marco Storari, Rubinho and Simone Pepe were allowed to leave too, meaning the squad will look vastly different when the new season gets underway.

Juventus have worked quickly, adding Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Sami Khedira before the transfer window had even opened. Yet those arrivals leave a number of players more marginalised than they had been previously, with one or two perhaps pondering their long-term futures in Turin.

Those names on the fringe of the squad almost certainly include Simone Padoin, though the 31-year-old is unlikely to have too many concerns over his role. He arrived from Atalanta in January 2012, and has since been part of a team which has won six trophies, making 96 appearances in all competitions.

No fewer than 35 of those came last season—comfortably his most in a single campaign—as he showed incredible versatility to play no less than five different positions, while his tally of 20 starts was his highest since the 2009/10 season.

The aforementioned influx of attacking talent will also leave a question mark over Kingsley Coman’s immediate future, although he is clearly highly regarded by Allegri and the club’s management team. The 19-year-old made 20 appearances in 2014/15, but the arrival of Mandzukic and Dybala sees him pushed even further down the pecking order, with Simone Zaza also expected to be signed very soon.

Allegri mentioned the Sassuolo striker in an interview with Sky Italia last month (h/t Football Italia), and that new-found depth has led to talk of a loan for him. A report by French newspaper L’Equipe (h/t Forza Italian Football) linked Lille, Saint-Etienne and Palermo with Coman, and his name is certainly one to monitor in the coming weeks.

The arrival of Daniele Rugani means that Angelo Ogbonna will also perhaps be forced out, with TuttoSport believing that Everton, West Ham and Southampton have expressed interest in bringing the defender to the Premier League (h/t Football Italia).

Despite lengthy injury-enforced absences for both Andrea Barzagli and Martin Caceres, Ogbonna made just 18 starts this past season, and the prospect of a €10 million fee from one of those English sides would perhaps prove too tempting to refuse.

Paolo De Ceglie—a product of the Juventus youth sector—returned to Turin in January, the Bianconeri terminating his loan with Parma when it was clear the troubled club could not afford to pay his wages. The 28-year-old full-back played just 104 minutes for the Old Lady however, and appears unsuited to being the long-term backup to Patrice Evra, particularly as Allegri will have Kwadwo Asamoah available once again.

With the club looking at alternatives for the French defender—a subject discussed in detail here—De Ceglie is likely to move on again before the end of the summer. A combination of injuries meant Luca Marrone also effectively missed the entire season, and it is no surprise to see he too is linked with a summer exit.

Writing on his own website, transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio believes newly promoted Serie A sides Carpi and Bologna are interested in signing the 25-year-old. The midfielder, like many of Juve’s fringe players, may well have some big decisions to make before the 2015/16 season begins.

Juventus are well prepared to succeed
without Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/italian-serie-a/12/blog/post/2515326/juventus-are-prepared-to-succeed-without-pirlo-and-tevez?

Jul 8, 2015

Max Allegri believes "this will be a crucial summer" and "a delicate season" for Juventus. Taking a break from a gabbionata -- the five-a-side matches played in rusting cages in his hometown of Livorno -- his assessment isn't the hyperbolic, paranoid musings of a coach playing to the gallery, seeing threats where there are none.

Even by Gigi Buffon's admission, Juventus' rivals made it relatively straightforward for them to retain the Scudetto last season. This year, however, they expect not only to be run closer, but -- in contrast to the first three of their four consecutive league titles -- by more than one rival, too.

It's why, Allegri told La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport, "I want to avoid the risk of a down period that many teams go through after an exceptional season." There can be no complacency. "I don't want anyone to stop and contemplate their success," he said.

It's a fine line between trophies and atrophy, as Allegri is only too aware. The last time he defended a title of his own, it began with Milan winning just one of their opening four games. They drew with Lazio and Udinese at San Siro and lost to Napoli and Juventus. Although the team recovered and led the league in the spring, a combination of things -- like rushing Thiago Silva back from a hamstring injury only for him to suffer a relapse, Zlatan Ibrahimovic missing games through unnecessary suspensions, and Sulley Muntari's wrongfully disallowed goal in a title decider -- brought about the relinquishment of their hold on the tricolor.

Juventus, a rank outsider who had finished seventh and 24 points behind them the year before, wrested it from their grasp, and so the Old Lady represents a warning unto herself not to underestimate anyone. She serves as inspiration -- proof that nothing is impossible -- principally to the Milan clubs, neither of whom are playing in Europe for the first time simultaneously since 1958, but share a renewed purpose, ambition and spending power.

Both have opened preseason bullishly announcing their aim to contend for the title. While acknowledging Juventus remain unanimous favourites, Inter boss Roberto Mancini has argued: "The gap isn't unbridgeable and they will lose something, particularly at the start of the season [while they figure things out] now that Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez are gone."

Those losses are a concern. Deprived of their chief difference-makers, the hope expressed by the pretenders to Juventus' throne is that they are a little more mortal now. Juventus didn't want them to leave. Asked if Pirlo was crying goodbye tears after the Champions League final in Berlin, general manager Beppe Marotta tellingly said: "I hope not." Claudio Marchisio admitted to being "a little [worried]" amid reports of their imminent departures "because I still think they can give Juve a lot."

No one is more symbolic of Juventus' restoration than Pirlo. His move from Milan four years ago was the hinge on which the balance of power swung in Italy. His genius changed everything for the club, elevating it back to the top. An all-time great, there is no replacing il Maestro. At 36, this day was going to come sooner rather than later. Reassuringly, when deputising in his position last season, Marchisio left the impression that there is life after Pirlo; a less elegant and stylish one perhaps, but still an effective alternative interpretation of the role he played.

In addition to Pirlo's rhythmic passing, the combinations he played with Stephan Lichtsteiner, his clutch play -- recall his strike against Genoa the season before last, and the injury-time screamer in the first Turin derby last November -- his free kicks, that trademark maledetta of his -- it will all be missed.

No one bends it quite like Pirlo. He scored 15 goals from free kicks during his time at Juventus, curling in three last season, which leads to the question of who will assume these duties now? When Pirlo was absent last term, it was Tevez who stepped up and scored three, including a wonderful Platini-esque effort against Roma in March -- a reminder of how wide-ranging his decisiveness was to Juventus.

"You can't replace Carlos," Pavel Nedved admitted. "It's impossible. He's a huge loss for us. He was our leader over the last couple of years." The issue about leadership isn't to be dismissed. Juventus don't lack big characters, but Pirlo and Tevez were go-to guys capable of winning games with a moment of individual brilliance when the collective found itself in difficulty. They led by example, and the team looked to them.

Also, let's just reflect on the pre-Tevez years for a minute. In 2012, Juventus' top scorer in Serie A was Alessandro Matri (10). In 2013, it was Mirko Vucinic and Arturo Vidal (10). The obsession was to find il top player -- an Anglicism that left many of the older sportswriters in despair -- someone capable of scoring 20 goals a season. Toto Di Natale turned them down. They missed out on Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko, as both joined Manchester City. Robin van Persie left Arsenal for Manchester United. Tevez, however, was worth the wait.

Not only did he represent a bargain at €9 million, he was the perfect fit for Juventus' hustling playing style. He set the tone for it, and with him they scaled new heights. He scored 50 goals in 96 appearances, but Tevez's range of action, his involvement in their play was much broader and more profound than an orthodox centre-forward. He was worthy of the No. 10 shirt as worn by Omar Sivori, Michel Platini and Alessandro Del Piero before him. His performances last season merit a place on the next Ballon d'Or shortlist.

Faith, however, must be placed in the club's ability to move the team on. They kept winning after Del Piero and after Antonio Conte. They have everything to keep winning after Pirlo and Tevez. Allegri has coped with much bigger losses. He kept a vastly inferior Milan side competitive after it was shorn of Alessandro Nesta, Thiago Silva, Clarence Seedorf and Ibrahimovic in 2012.

Juventus' strength is not only a coach with experience in transitions, but the unflappability of their management in general. They can be surprised (and disappointed), but rarely shocked and destabilised by events. Contingencies are in place. Plan B's lie ready to be activated.

Mario Mandzukic isn't a like-for-like replacement for Tevez. He's more of an upgrade on Fernando Llorente. But in the past two years, the Croatian has scored only four fewer league goals than Tevez, while his performances against Juventus for Bayern in 2013 left a lasting impression. Not only did he score at the J Stadium, he put on a clinic in modern centre-forward play, pressing and winning the ball high up the field.

In contrast with the short-termism characterised by other teams in Serie A, Juventus' long-view approach also means they are well placed to carry on winning. Their gradual transition from one generation to another is exemplary on paper. Next season, they could have eight players born in the '90s in their first-team squad.

Daniele Rugani is recognised as the best young centre-back in Italy. Stefano Sturaro has been integrated into their midfield since the spring, and played a critical role in the first leg of their semifinal against Real Madrid. Paul Pogba figures in this list as well. Much more is expected of his compatriot, the richly talented Kingsley Coman. Then there's the forward line. Alvaro Morata scored four goals in his final five appearances last season. He put one past Dortmund, got on the score sheet in both legs against Real, and then netted one in the Champions League final against Barcelona, too. New teammate Paulo Dybala has the instincts of a striker and a No. 10, as 13 goals and 10 assists for Palermo boldly demonstrate. Simone Zaza is a maverick and starts for Italy. All are 24 or under.

Great potential is there, and the blend between teachable youngsters and mentoring elders is the right one. New Champions League-winning experience has been added in the form of Sami Khedira and Mandzukic. Allegri has made no secret of his desire to sign a No. 10, allowing Arturo Vidal to go back to his best position and recover his best form. Wesley Sneijder was pursued in January, but Allegri has since updated his preferences to Isco and Oscar.

"We'll need to change without Tevez and Pirlo and experiment with new solutions," he told La Repubblica. "I would like an inventor, one who never looks to do the obvious, a wild card in an otherwise balanced tactical plan."

His first-choice targets seem out of reach as long as Juventus' resolve to keep Pogba goes unchanged. As they are, however, the Old Lady remain formidable. Last season's Champions League final was a point of departure, not arrival.

There's a greater awareness of their own strength after breaking through a mental glass ceiling in Europe. A fifth consecutive title and a chance to emulate the Juventus team of the 1930s and the Grande Torino of the '40s means motivation isn't lacking, either. Sure, there are a few more unknowns about Juventus, but significantly fewer than her rivals. The Old Lady might appear slightly different from recent years, it's true. Even without a couple of her leading men, though, she still looks good for her title.

Tracking Juventus' 2015 summer transfer window:
Who's arrived, who's left Turin

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/7/8/8904985/tracking-juventus-summer-transfer-window-serie-a-2015

Jul 8, 2015

We're officially at the point in the summer when a lot of moves on the transfer market are actually negotiated and finalized. Luckily for many of us around these parts, Juventus' management, namely director general Beppe Marotta and sporting director Fabio Paratici, have gotten the majority of their business done early on even before the transfer window officially opened.

Juventus have put a lot of money into the transfer market this summer, and understandably so. Due to the players who are departing Turin this summer — Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tévez, most notably — Juventus have had to try to bring just as much quality into the squad while also keeping the core intact for another season.

As of early July, it's been a pretty resounding success in terms of who has been brought in on the transfer market. Of course, a lot of it depends on what takes place on the field rather than just simply winning the summer mercato and that's that. But, for the time being, it's hard to find much issue in the players Juventus have signed for next season. There's talent, there's room to grow and there's a clear vision to make the heart of the team's roster a lot younger going forward beyond just the 2015-16 season.

This post will continue to be updated whenever Juventus transfers, both comings and goings, are made official. There will be no transfer rumors posted in the body of the post here. Just the official ones. Other transfer window shenanigans will be ever present on the main page. Don't you worry.

PLAYERS IN

Paulo Dybala signs from Palermo

This is the biggest transfer fee Juventus has paid out during the Andrea Agnelli/Beppe Marotta era — and it's not even a close one. It was the €20 million Juve spent on Álvaro Morata last summer, but now that distinction belongs to the €32 million transfer fee (plus another €8 million in potential bonuses) that will be paid to Palermo over the next four years. Dybala was only three players in Serie A this season to have double-digit totals in both goals and assists this past season. Not bad for a 21-year-old striker who has plenty of room to grow.

Sami Khedira signs from Real Madrid

When Khedira signed, the idea of Pirlo leaving for Major League Soccer was simply a rumor that was gaining steam more than anything else. Now that Pirlo has officially left for New York, it's going to be even more interesting to see where the German international fits into Max Allegri's plans. He's coming off an injury-filled season where he barely featured at all with Real Madrid, so you know he will be hungry to show he's healthy once again. And for the price he was signed for — i.e. nothing at all — there's going to have to be a lot go wrong to have it turn out to be a bad move.

Mario Mandzukic signs from Atlético Madrid

Welcome to the new prima punta leading Juventus' strikeforce. Mandzukic is coming off some believe is a quiet one and only season in La Liga, but the fact still remains Juventus got a damn good striker for €19 million during a time in the footballing world when transfer fees are blowing up all over the place. No matter if he's lined up alongside Morata or flanked by Dybala and Morata, Mandzukic is going to be looked upon to generate and make up for some of the offense Juventus are losing with Carlos Tévez heading back to Argentina.

Roberto Pereyra bought outright from Udinese

One of the easiest decisions Juventus had to make this summer was to purchase Pereyra outright from Udinese after the Argentine midfielder spent last season in Turin on the Beppe Marotta Special. He arrived in Turin as somewhat of an unknown to some of us, but he ended up being a valuable piece for Allegri to use in a variety of roles. Pereyra was effective as both a starter no matter what midfield position he was used in or as a second-half burst of energy off the bench.

Neto signs from Fiorentina

Say hello to Juventus' new No. 2 goalkeeper, ladies and gentlemen. Marco Storari is headed off to try and get Cagliari back into Serie A, and the 25-year-old Brazilian will now deputize for the G.O.A.T., aka Gigi Buffon. Could this be a move that is intended for more than just the next couple of seasons? At Neto's age, it's definitely a possibility.

Simone Zaza signs from Sassuolo

Here is the third — yes, third! — striker Juventus has signed for significant amounts of money this summer. All told, Juventus paid €69 million on strikers named Dybala, Mandzukic and Zaza, with another €8 million potentially heading to Sicily in Dybala meets certain performance bonuses. But when it comes to Zaza, he's not being brought in to start or lead Juventus' attack. He will almost certainly be Mandzukic's direct backup as well as another striker that gives Allegri some flexibility when one of his other attackers needs rest. More or less, the arrival of Zaza almost certainly means the departure of Fernando Llorente, who is reportedly the eye of a handful of teams around Europe as of Zaza's signing.

Daniele Rugani returns after his contract was bought outright during the winter transfer window

Another player who's extremely young yet extremely talented and already has a season's worth of Serie A experience despite his youth. Marotta has said that Rugani will be part of Juventus squad during the 2015-16 season, and the club's reported effort to sell defender Angelo Ogbonna only seems to confirm that notion. Rugani is coming off a season where he played in all 38 league games and didn't pick up a yellow card. Basically, he's ready for the jump to the best club in Italy. Now we get to see what the kid can do in bianconero.

PLAYERS OUT

Andrea Pirlo signs with New York City FC

After four trophy-filled seasons with Juventus, the bearded maestro is trading in his black and white stripes for the sky blue kits of New York City FC (and parent company Manchester City). Every indication is that Juventus are not receiving any form of money for Pirlo's departure to the Big Apple, which is the same amount of money they paid for him when he was available on a free transfer four years ago.

Federico Mattiello heads back to Chievo on loan

The young midfielder is going back to where he gained his first decent amount of Serie A playing time before he suffered a terrible injury in March. Mattiello won't be ready for the season opener come less than two months from now, but he is heading back to a club that obviously has confidence in him from his first go-round with them.

Carlos Tévez heads home to Boca Juniors

There has been no announcement from the Juventus side of the equation when it comes to Tévez going back to Boca Juniors, but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's already been announced as happening from the Argentinian side of the transfer. Agnelli said at Claudio Marchisio's contract extension press conference that Tévez expressed an interest in going back to Boca all the way back in January, which makes this move something that has been potentially put in motion months ago rather than in the aftermath of the Champions League final.

Luca Marrone heads to Carpi on loan

Following an injury-filled 2014-15 season, Mr. Luke Brown heads to one of Serie A's newest teams, Carpi, to try and reboot a career that once looked quite promising. At the age of 25, Marrone still has time on his side, but it's becoming ever so likely that it won't be happening at his hometown club.

Angelo Ogbonna sold to West Ham United for €11 million

So, Marotta buys Ogbonna, a towering force of the Torino defense in the years prior for €13 million and then sells him two years later after he starts all of 41 Serie A games for €11 million. This is Marotta at his best, man. It didn't work out for Ogbonna, and that's fine. Not every move is going to work out because that's just the science of it. But to basically get back 85 percent of the original transfer fee is simply great business. It's what both parties needed — for Ogbonna to move on and go to a club where he can play regularly, and for Juventus to clear a spot for Daniele Rugani and get a good amount of money back at the same time.

Loan spells ending: Alessandro Matri, Romulo

Contracts expiring: Simone Pepe, Marco Storari (signed with Cagliari on July 3), Rubinho

OTHER MOVES

Claudio Marchisio agrees to a contract extension through 2020

I tend to think these were easy negotiations considering who it is and the club his representatives were speaking with. Marchisio has grown up at Juventus. It's the only club he knows sans one season on loan at Empoli. Marchisio is now ensured of being a Juventus player until his mid-30s. So yeah, he's going to be retiring in the same colors he started his career in. That's pretty damn awesome if you ask me.

Max Allegri agrees to a contract extension through 2017

What's the reward for leading the Juventus squad to the season it completed a month or so ago? A nice contract extension with a pay raise to go along with it. That's what Allegri got on the same day Marchisio's contract extension was announced. It was a busy day around Turin on Monday, July 6, and a lot of it had to do with these last two things on the list.

Lippi: 'Juve are stronger now'

http://www.football-italia.net/69080/lippi-juve-are-stronger-now?

Jul 12, 2015

Marcello Lippi believes Juventus are stronger this season with Sami Khedira, Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Simone Zaza.

The former Bianconeri and Italy Coach spoke to newspaper La Stampa about the many changes in Turin, as Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez move on.

“Their rivals are making some big moves too and that’s a sign these sides are waking up, but it was Juve who really got the transfer market going – even though they needed it the least.

“This confirms the club’s ability to plan ahead with clear ideas. Juve are accustomed to renewal even after victory.

“I remember as soon as I got back to Juve in 2001, Umberto Agnelli called to tell me ‘we have to sell Zinedine Zidane.’ I didn’t take it well, but he added ‘we will reinvest everything.’

“Effectively, with that money we signed Gigi Buffon, Lilian Thuram and Pavel Nedved, so it wasn’t so bad… Basically, I tell the fans to let those who know what they’re doing to get on with it.”

The Bianconeri supporters have plenty of new faces to cheer on this summer.

“Khedira is a World Cup winner with a lot of experience,” explained Lippi.

“Dybala has fantastic tricks and when he gets a bit physically stronger we can expect great things from him.

“Mandzukic is the type of centre-forward Juventus were lacking, as he has more of a nose for goal than Fernando Llorente.

“I like Zaza very much, as he has good movement and can find the space between defenders. Daniele Rugani’s arrival confirms Juventus is the main provider of players for the Italy squad. This is also why they win, as the sense of belonging and identity is fundamental.”

Lippi had been linked with a return to Serie A as a director at Milan, but brushed off those suggestions.

“I don’t miss the life of a club Coach at all. I completed that experience. I’m not retired yet, though. I’m keeping the door open for a national team, but I have serious doubts, as now the strong sides choose someone in-house.”

'Roma? Juventus still stronger'

http://www.football-italia.net/69303/roma-juventus-still-stronger?

Jul 17, 2015

Former Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso favours Juventus over Roma, while stressing that Milan and Inter need the Champions League.

The triplete winner is the Argentinian player with the greatest number of trophies after Lionel Messi, and when asked who the favourites were to win next year's Scudetto, his answer was unambiguous.

“Juventus,” he said. “Those who won the title the previous year are always in pole position.

“Next to them I see Roma. It's no accident that they came second for two seasons in a row.

“In the Champions League, Juventus started having faith after their victory in Dortmund [3-0 against Borussia Dortmund], that was the turning point.

“Even though they lost [the final] against Barcelona, it was an unforgettable season for them.

“I'm not highly affected by the idea of the clubs from Milan being in the hands of foreign owners.

“But it's really strange for me to see Inter and Milan both away from European competitions, especially in the year when Milan hosts the Champions League final.”

Paolo Rossi: Juventus Have The Strength
In Depth To Regain Scudetto

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/07/rossi-juventus-have-the-strength-in-depth-to-regain-scudetto/?

Jul 17, 2015

Former Juventus forward Paolo Rossi believes that the Bianconeri have the strength to regain their Serie A title next year despite the improved squads of Inter and AC Milan.

The 58-year-old has discussed the transfer business of each side and has stated that the Nerazzurri will be the closest competitors to Juve.

“Inter have completed the signing of Kondogbia and Juve have got Paulo Dybala,” Rossi told Mediaset.

“The Argentine is a great talent and a player I like very much.

“Bacca is also a good acquisition for Milan.

“Despite this, I still believe that Juve remain the favourites for the title as they have the strong habit of winning. Inter will be their closest challengers.”

Rossi has also analysed The Old Lady’s chances in the Champions League next season as well as the potential return of Zlatan Ibrahimovich to Italy.

“In Europe Juve will be among the last eight in the competition,” the former Milan striker continued.

“Then after that it all depends upon the squad and the various conditions.

“As for Ibrahimovich, a team consists of more than just one player.”

Comparing Juventus' 2015 Summer Transfer
Moves to Their Serie A Rivals

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2525810-comparing-juventus-2015-summer-transfer-moves-to-their-serie-a-rivals?

Jul 19, 2015

While the last four years have undoubtedly been enjoyable for Juventus supporters, the two most recent Serie A seasons have been something of a procession for the Turin giants. From the moment AS Roma’s 2013/14 challenge collapsed in late October, there was never any real doubt that the Bianconeri would lift the title each time.

The emphatic nature of those victories—finishing some 17 points ahead of their nearest rival each year—has finally seen Italian football move with a sense of urgency this summer. Milan, Inter, Fiorentina and Napoli have each begun major overhauls both on and off the field, hoping they can mount a more credible push at the top of the table next time around.

In addition, both AS Roma and city rivals Lazio—who finished second and third respectively last term—have retained their star players and hope a year of stability will help them close the gap to Massimiliano Allegri’s all-conquering side.

The Giallorossi have added Spanish midfielder Iago Falque, the 25-year-old having impressed with Genoa in 2014/15 as he bagged 13 goals and three assists, as well as also securing a permanent deal for Radja Nainggolan, who had been co-owned by Cagliari.

He was arguably the club’s best player last season, and sealing that deal should be huge for them, though AS Roma surely have much more work to do on the market before they can hope to be taken seriously as title challengers.

On the other side of the Italian capital, Lazio are preparing for their Champions League play-off fixture, bringing in Dutch defender Wesley Hoedt and former Barcelona midfielder Patric to add depth to their squad.

Fiorentina—having dealt with the tumultuous exits of coach Vincenzo Montella and star player Mohamed Salah—are likely to have a year of rebuilding under new boss Paulo Sousa. They should welcome striker Giuseppe Rossi back into the team and will hope the Italian will be able to lift them higher than the fourth-placed finish they have registered for three consecutive seasons.

Last year saw them finish above Napoli, with the southern club floundering somewhat under Rafael Benitez, who has since been replaced by Maurizio Sarri. Having enjoyed much success with Empoli, the coach will hope to replicate the energetic and attractive style he brought to the Tuscan minnows at the Stadio San Paolo.

A number of players have been linked, with Udinese midfielder Allan believed to be the closest to a move, having been in transfer negotiations for weeks, per Football Italia. While the sweeping changes of that quartet of clubs leave something of a question mark over their immediate futures, the landscape of Milanese football has shifted dramatically.

Like Clarence Seedorf before him, Filippo Inzaghi has been fired by Milan, with yet another highly recognisable former player taking his place on the bench. After an impressive campaign with Sampdoria last season, Sinisa Mihajlovic will now be looking to revive the fortunes of a Rossoneri side which limped to a woeful 10th place finish in 2014/15.

In order help him to achieve that, Silvio Berlusconi has finally opened his chequebook once again, buoyed by the sale of a 48 per cent stake in the club to Thai businessman Bee Taechaubol. The two parties issued a statement earlier this month which read (h/t Football Italia):

"The draft agreement, which will be examined in detail, assures control of the club remains in the hands of president Silvio Berlusconi and Fininvest, which will hold a majority share of 52 per cent. The consortium represented by Mr Taechaubol will acquire a minority stake of 48 per cent."

The Rossoneri have embarked on a major spending spree, bringing in midfielder Andrea Bertolacci from Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk striker Luiz Adriano and Carlos Bacca from Sevilla. Quite how all those pieces will fit together remains to be seen, and it will be interesting how Mihajlovic sets about inspiring a turnaround in the red and black half of the city.

Across town, however, Roberto Mancini is simultaneously hoping to restore Inter to the level of success they enjoyed in his first spell with the club. The former Manchester City boss arrived after the sacking of Walter Mazzarri last November, but he is now firmly settling back in to life with the Nerazzurri.

The club have arguably been the most active of all Italian sides, picking up midfielder Jonathan Biabiany from Parma, Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda and full-back Martin Montoya from Barcelona. In addition, Inter have also signed Geoffrey Kondogbia from AS Monaco, a move which caused a major rift with Milan who had also made a move for the 22-year-old midfielder.

That bidding drove the price up to €40 million, but the player himself explained the situation earlier this week, revealing some interesting details shared between himself and Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani as he spoke to French newspaper L’Equipe (h/t Football Italia):

The truth is that I spoke to Milan, but never in my life have I said yes to Adriano Galliani, The Rossoneri offered me more, but Mancini made a difference. The two clubs know what happened, and they know what they offered me.

Milan know that their offer was better financially, but I didn’t make my choice based on that.

Kondogbia undoubtedly improves Inter’s hopes immeasurably, but those six rival clubs will still be comparing their work to that being done in Turin ahead of the new campaign. The Bianconeri moved quickly this summer, agreeing deals for Paulo Dybala, Sami Khedira and Mario Mandzukic before the transfer window had actually opened.

They have since signed Sassuolo striker Simone Zaza and secured Roberto Pereyra—who spent last season on loan at Juventus—on a permanent deal. Yet it is the departures rather than arrivals that will lend hope to the clubs below them, with Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez having already moved on.

Losing that duo—who were undeniably the creative spark behind the team as discussed here—is bad enough, but it seems Arturo Vidal may also be on his way out of Turin. As reported by BBC Sport, the Chilean midfielder appears close to agreeing a move to Bayern Munich, robbing Allegri of a third big star in just a few short weeks.

How the coach copes with that will be central to Juve’s continued success, but it certainly draws the gap between the league's transfer market activity into focus. The attack will need to make up for the loss of Tevez—who scored 50 goals in 96 games during his two-year stint—and will rely on Dybala, who is arguably the most important of their new arrivals.

That point was discussed in depth in this previous column, but the Argentinian joins Alvaro Morata, Mandzukic and Zaza in what is still likely to be Serie A’s most prolific attack. Bertolacci and Kondogbia are two headline-grabbing deals, but Khedira will still feature alongside Kwadwo Asamoah, Paul Pogba and Claudio Marchisio in what remains the division’s strongest midfield.

Supported by Pereyra, Stefano Sturaro and Simone Padoin, Allegri has a wealth of options, and the same is undoubtedly true in defence. Angelo Ogbonna has joined West Ham United, and Juve will likely need a left-back to support Patrice Evra if they hope to contend on three fronts once again.

The players who have left will be missed, and Fiorentina, Inter, Lazio, Milan, Napoli and Roma should be proud of the work they have done, but once again Juventus appear to have the advantage. That is as true on the transfer market as it is in the league table, a combination which should lead Allegri and the Bianconeri to a fifth consecutive Serie A crown in 2015/16.

Allegri: Juventus remain title favourites
but watch out for AC Milan & Inter

The Bianconeri have lost some key performers, including Andrea Pirlo and
Carlos Tevez, but the coach has been buoyed by the quality of their replacements.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2015/07/20/13744722/-?

Jul 20, 2015

Massimiliano Allegri insists that Juventus remain the favourites to win this season's Scudetto - but admits that the title race could be a whole lot closer this time around.

The Bianconeri romped to a fourth consecutive championship triumph last term, finishing 17 points clear of second-placed Roma.

Allegri is expecting a stronger challenge this term, particularly in light of the spending sprees at AC Milan and Inter, but he feels that Juve remain the team to beat in Italy - despite the summer departures of Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez, and imminent exit of Arturo Vidal.

"Juve remain title favourites, but watch out for the two Milan teams this year - they're always dangerous," the 47-year-old coach told reporters on Monday.

"Inter and Milan have both strengthened and are capable of challenging for the title, as are Roma and Napoli.

"Next year's Serie A title race will be a lot more open."

Juve have already snapped up Sami Khedira, Simone Zaza, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic ahead of the new season - and Allegri is happy with the quality of the new arrivals, believing that the Bianconeri boast a squad capable of continuing their domestic dominance.

"Everything we've achieved thus far is now consigned to the history books," the former Milan boss added. "We start again from scratch.

"Once the transfer window shuts we'll have around 10 players born between 1991 and 1996. A wise move for the future.

"Two top internationals have joined us and we've also brought in promising youngsters with a bright future.

"We've brought in players with great international pedigree and maintained the leadership in the dressing room.

"Juve has the chance to build a side that can also stand out for the next four to five years."

Cannavaro: 'Juve team to beat'

http://www.football-italia.net/69520/cannavaro-juve-team-beat?

Jul 21, 2015

Fabio Cannavaro tips Juventus for a fifth straight Scudetto, but Inter and Roma can give them a tough time.

The former defender is in Italy at the moment visiting the Expo in Milan and was asked about Serie A.

“Juventus remain the team to beat. Andrea Pirlo, Carlos Tevez and Arturo Vidal have all gone, but they brought in young players who are already at a high level.

“Their opponents will be Inter, as Roberto Mancini’s project seems valid. Then there’s Roma, who have a solid squad.”

Why 4-3-1-2 Should Be the Go-to
Formation for Juventus in 2015/16

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2529340-why-4-3-1-2-should-be-the-go-to-formation-for-juventus-in-201516?

Jul 26, 2015

Much has changed at Juventus this summer, the Bianconeri making some major changes to their squad since their 2014/15 campaign ended with a defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final.

That loss at Berlin’s Olympiastadion—coming after the club had secured a Serie A and Coppa Italia double—appears to have signalled the end of an era in Turin. Speaking at a recent press conference, director general Beppe Marotta revealed Andrea Pirlo, Carlos Tevez, Angelo Ogbonna and Arturo Vidal had each “expressed his desire to try a different experience.”

Those exits have been offset by a raft of new additions, with Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Simone Zaza arriving to reinforce the attack while World Cup-winning midfielder Sami Khedira and promising young defender Daniele Rugani have both also joined the Bianconeri.

Fiorentina goalkeeper Norberto Neto will now be the backup for Gigi Buffon after Marco Storari departed, and veteran midfielder Simone Pepe has been released. Sat beside Marotta on Monday, coach Massimiliano Allegri gave his take on the club's transfer activity, per the official Juventus website:

I’m happy with the team that’s being assembled. Tevez, Pirlo and Vidal have all decided to embark on a different challenge and you need to move on. We’ve brought in players with top European experience like Khedira and Mandzukic and the likes of Buffon, [Leonardo] Bonucci, [Giorgio] Chiellini, [Claudio] Marchisio, [Patrice] Evra and [simone] Padoin are still in the dressing room. The youngsters we have can only get better and improve from a leadership point of view.

As well as ensuring the chemistry of the team is not lost Allegri’s main task this summer will be finding a formation that brings the best from what will undoubtedly be a new-look side.

In front of Buffon, it makes sense to continue with the four-man defence that was responsible for much of last year’s success. Moving away from the 3-5-2 framework that had been Juve’s default setup for the previous three years, Allegri’s shift to an orthodox back four was much better suited to the demands of European football.

Stephan Lichtsteiner will continue at right-back, the Switzerland international continuing to show he belongs in any conversation about the world’s best players in that position. On the opposite flank, Patrice Evra proved to be a wonderful addition, bringing defensive solidity and vast experience to what had long been a problematic area for Juve.

While Martin Caceres remains a viable alternative on the right, the Uruguayan—as well as midfielders Kwadwo Asamoah and Padoin—does not offer the same well-rounded quality on the left, meaning an alternative may yet arrive.

Sky Italia has linked the club with Layvin Kurzawa of AS Monaco, Porto’s Alex Sandro and Guilherme Siqueira of Atletico Madrid (h/t Forza Italian Football), while no such move is needed in central defence.

Bonucci and Chiellini proved to be an excellent blend of flair, intelligence and brute force last term, helping the Bianconeri keep 20 clean sheets in Serie A. Andrea Barzagli recovered from injury and ensures a shift back to 3-5-2 remains an option, while much is expected from Rugani who returns from a spell at Empoli.

He too believes he can adapt to any formation, telling reporters at a press conference that “my versatility is partly why I am here and I can play in a three or a four. I’ll slot in wherever the manager needs me.” He is likely to remain a reserve for a while, but the benefit of training alongside that trio of Italy internationals can only help his development over the coming years.

In midfield, Khedira will almost certainly slot in between Claudio Marchisio and Paul Pogba, his defensive diligence allowing that duo to press forward in attack. If he can overcome the injuries that have blighted him recently, the German star could prove to be a superb acquisition.

With Stefano Sturaro, Asamoah and Padoin able to provide cover, a three-man midfield would seem the logical choice, although what happens further forward is arguably where the real intrigue lies. Speaking to La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport last season (h/t Football Italia), Allegri dubbed his favoured formation “4-3 and then we’ll see.” That is likely to continue in 2015/16.

The coach has also revealed that he expects the Old Lady may well have one more move left to make. “As far as further signings are concerned, the club has got its eye out for an attacking midfield player with offensive qualities," Allegri told reporters, per the official Juventus website. "We’re assessing our options and requirements.”

Names fitting those attributes have emerged quickly, with the Italian champions receiving permission from Schalke to discuss terms with Julian Draxler. "Juventus made a written request to be allowed to negotiate with Julian's agent, and we have agreed to it," the Bundesliga side’s general manager, Horst Heldt, told Bild (h/t ESPN FC).

Despite the official going on to add they had yet to receive a bid for the player, the German paper reported Juve sporting director Fabio Paratici was in Germany on Tuesday to meet Draxler's agent, Roger Wittmann.

Alternatively, Sportmediaset believes a move for Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze is still possible (h/t Football Italia), meaning Juventus are almost certain to play with an attacking midfielder next season. Roberto Pereyra—whose loan move from Udinese has now been made permanent—provides an excellent alternative, impressing in his debut campaign and winning a place in the Argentina squad for this summer’s Copa America.

In attack, Mandzukic will challenge Alvaro Morata for the job of leading the line, while much will be expected of Dybala, the club’s €32 million replacement for Tevez. The 21-year-old will need to shine, Juve relying on him to become a source of both goals and creativity in the mould of his compatriot.

Simone Zaza and Kingsley Coman provide alternatives, but are likely to leave Fernando Llorente somewhat surplus to requirements. According to Mirror Sport’s David MacDonnell, Manchester United have identified the Spaniard as a transfer target, and that could be the ideal solution for all concerned.

SUMMARY

Should they be able to add a left-back and an attacking playmaker, Juventus would have the depth to utilise a 4-3-1-2 formation and line up as follows:

Gigi Buffon, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Patrice Evra; Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira, Paul Pogba; Julian Draxler/Mario Gotze; Paulo Dybala, Alvaro Morata.

Reserves: Norbeto Neto; Martin Caceres, Daniele Rugani, Andrea Barzagli, Layvin Kurzawa/Alex Sandro; Stefano Sturaro, Simone Padoin, Kwadwo Asamoah; Roberto Pereyra; Kingsley Coman, Mario Mandzukic.

JuventusFC ✔@juventusfcen
.@Neto_Murara: "Everyone's a top quality player and capable of coming in and doing a good job."

Obviously, those teams would be interchangeable, but listing them in that manner highlights the quality available to Allegri for the forthcoming season. He told reporters at that aforementioned press conference he is looking forward to the challenge, per the club’s official website:

The new arrivals possess different characteristics to those who have departed and it’s my job to enable them to best express themselves on the field of play. We’ve brought in some talented youngsters and once the transfer window shuts we’ll have 10 players born between 1991 and 1996. It’s the right way forward to ensure a bright future and planning for this team.

It is a future that looks extremely positive, and one which will the Juventus coach given a chance to truly shape the team in his image.

Juventus face early Serie A showdown with Roma

The Scudetto holders will meet last term's runners-up on the weekend
of August 30, while there will be a Milan derby on matchday three.

Serie A champions Juventus will face rivals Roma on the second weekend of the new season.

The Bianconeri, who are bidding for a fifth successive Scudetto, have beaten the Giallorossi into second place for the past two years but must travel to the Stadio Olimpico on the weekend of August 30.

In what is set to be an exciting start to the 2015-16 campaign, free-spending duo AC Milan and Inter will lock horns in the Derby della Madonnina on matchday three.

1705112.jpg

Juve will begin their title defence with a home game against Udinese on either August 22 or 23, while Roma will open with a tricky trip to Verona.

Roberto Mancini's Inter, who are set to continue their summer spending spree with the addition of Manchester City attacker Stevan Jovetic, will kick off their campaign against Atalanta at San Siro.

Meanwhile, new Milan boss Sinisa Mihajlovic faces a difficult opening assignment, with the Rossoneri having to travel to the Stadio Artemio Franchio to take on Fiorentina, who appointed Paulo Sousa as Vincenzo Montella's successor during the off-season.

Maurizio Sarri, who replaced Rafael Benitez as Napoli coach after a fine season at Empoli, will take the Partenopei to Sassuolo on the opening weekend.

Elsewhere, newly-promoted Bologna have been handed a difficult opening fixture at Lazio, who finished third last season.

Serie A newcomers Frosinone and Carpi begin against Torino and Sampdoria, respectively.

The drive for five straight Scudetti:
Juventus' 2015-16 fixture list released

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/7/27/9050035/juventus-2015-16-serie-a-fixture-list-released

Jul 27, 2015

Juventus will go into yet another Serie A as the favorite to win the Scudetto. It's not breaking news or anything close to it. Not that we need much inside information to tell us what we already know. Even with all the turnover we've seen happen this summer, Juventus are still the best team Italy has to offer, with the rest of the pack desperately trying to close the gap on the four-time Serie A champions.

As we found out on Monday, Juventus' latest and hopefully greatest title defense will start against their bianconero brethren Udinese at Juventus Stadium. Maybe Beppe Marotta will have an extra bit of attention on the game for the simple reason of trying to decide which Udinese player to acquire on loan with an option to buy next summer. That's how it works, right?

But I digress. Here, in full, is Juvenuts' schedule for the first half of the 2015-16 Serie A season. Why don't you go ahead and notice where Juve are going on Week 2. As a somewhat-recent Bond villain would say, "Delicious..."

Match day - Date - Opponent - (Home/Away)

1 - August 23 - Udinese (H )
2 - August 30 - Roma (A)
3 - September 13 - Chievo (H )
4 - September 20 - Genoa (A)
5 - September 23 - Frosinone (H )
6 - September 27 - Napoli (A)
7 - October 4 - Bologna (H )
8 - October 18 - Inter (A)
9 - October 25 - Atalanta (H )
10 - October 28 - Sassuolo (A)
11 - November 1 - Torino (H )
12 - November 8 - Empoli (A)
13 - November 22 - AC Milan (H )
14 - November 29 - Palermo (A)
15 - December 6 - Lazio (A)
16 - December 13 - Fiorentina (H )
17 - December 20 - Carpi (A)
18 - January 6 - Hellas Verona (H )
19 - January 10 - Sampdoria (A)

We can worry about Juventus competing on all three fronts until they jump into the Coppa Italia in the round of 16 right before the Christmas/New Year holiday break. But the group stage of the Champions League comes much sooner than that, with the first match day scheduled for Sept. 15/16. The group stage draw will take place on Aug. 27 in Monaco.

And just because you're probably wondering, here's all of the 19 return fixtures, which will almost certainly change if Juventus make a deep run in the Champions League or Coppa Italia or hopefully both once again this upcoming season.

Match day - Date - Opponent - (Home/Away)

20 - January 17 - Udinese (A)
21 - January 24 - Roma (H )
22 - January 31 - Chievo (A)
23 - February 3 - Genoa (H )
24 - February 7 - Frosinone (A)
25 - February 14 - Napoli (H )
26 - February 21 - Bologna (A)
27 - February 28 - Inter Milan (H )
28 - March 6 - Atalanta (A)
29 - March 13 - Sassuolo (H )
30 - March 20 - Torino (A)
31 - April 4 - Empoli (H )
32 - April 10 - AC Milan (A)
33 - April 17 - Palermo (H )
34 - April 20 - Lazio (H )
35 - April 24 - Fiorentina (A)
36 - May 1 - Carpi (H )
37 - May 8 - Hellas Verona (A)
38 - May 15 - Sampdoria (H )

I can see it now. Juventus go into that April 17 game at home against Palermo with a chance to essentially wrap up a fifth straight Serie A title. A certain former Palermo striker by the name of Paulo Dybala grabs a late game-winning goal to give Juventus the title (and probably activate some kind of performance/team bonus that was built into his summer transfer to Turin). It's almost too good to be true!

I must say, that'd be pretty awesome. So would Juventus winning another Scudetto. Hope you all agree.

So there you have it. Thirty-eight rounds of Serie A football have been scheduled.. Now we can all go back to scheduling our lives around Juventus because that's what we all do come the middle of August. The countdown clock continues to click down in our favor.

We're at 27 days and counting. Tick-tock, tick-tock...

Klose: 'Lazio improve for Juve'

http://www.football-italia.net/70283/klose-lazio-improve-juve?

Jul 29, 2015

Miroslav Klose hopes Lazio can be “ready for Juventus” in the Italian Super Cup after a fourth consecutive friendly defeat.

The German striker was given the captain’s armband for a 3-0 loss to Mainz and summer form is disastrous leading into the August 8 Italian Super Cup with Juventus in Shanghai.

“I am happy to be back here in my homeland, but I am convinced we should’ve done more,” Klose told Lazio Style Radio.

“We just need to keep working hard over the next few days to prepare for the challenge with Juventus.

“We must go out to China and get accustomed to the climate, find the right tempo and aim to do our best in that match.

“We had many scoring opportunities today and the important thing was to break the deadlock. We must improve and learn to take our chances.”

Bonetti: Juventus Can Beat Lazio In Supercoppa
Italiana With Weakened Squad

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/08/bonetti-juventus-can-beat-lazio-in-supercoppa-italiana-with-weakened-squad/?

Aug 1, 2015

The former Juventus and Dundee midfielder Ivano Bonetti is confident that the Bianconeri can beat Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana even without the likes of the injured Giorgio Chiellini or Andrea Barzagli.

The fixture will be held in Shanghai on August 8 as the league and cup winners Juve take on the Biancocelesti who qualified as Coppa Italia runners-up.

“In a one-off game like the Supercoppa against Lazio, Juventus can win without the likes of Chiellini of Barzagli,” said Bonetti to Tuttomercatoweb.com

“Above all else, [coach Massimiliano] Allegri’s side is made up of good young players who are motivated and want to demonstrate that they aren’t worth less than the more experienced players.”

The former Tranmere Rovers, Genoa and Sampdoria player also spoke about the injuries faced by the Old Lady.

“At times these injuries can arrive at the start of the season and be a warning sign but at times these things can happen and not necessarily mean that much,” said Bonetti.

The 50-year-old was also asked if he thinks Juve should try to sign Mehdi Benatia from Bayern Munich.

“He’s a great defender, absolutely one of the strongest around,” said Bonetti.

“I would do everything possible to bring him in.

“I would get him without even considering Chiellini’s and Barzagli’s injuries.”

Milinkovic: 'Ready for Lazio-Juve'

http://www.football-italia.net/70406/milinkovic-ready-lazio-juve?

Aug 1, 2015

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic said Lazio “perhaps paid too much” to Genk for his contract, but he hopes to play Juventus in the Super Cup.

The midfielder had been ready to sign for Fiorentina when the move suddenly collapsed at the last moment, but will now join Lazio for €9m plus bonuses.

“I am very happy with my transfer to Lazio,” the 20-year-old said to Belgian reporters.

“The club spent a lot of money on me, perhaps too much. I wasn’t even considered to be worth that much when I won the Under-20 World Cup with Serbia.

“Today I went to the Chinese embassy to get a visa, on Monday I will be in Rome for a medical and to sign the contract, then I’ll leave for Shanghai.”

Lazio are already in China ahead of the Italian Super Cup clash with Juventus next Saturday.

If all goes well, Milinkovic-Savic could make his Aquile debut in that game.

Lazio train in Shanghai

http://www.football-italia.net/70422/lazio-train-shanghai?

Aug 1, 2015

Lazio are already training in Shanghai ahead of next Saturday’s Italian Super Cup against Juventus.

That showdown is on August 8 and the first trophy of the 2015-16 campaign in Italy.

The Aquile already flew in last night and were greeted by 100 local fans at the airport.

They had their first training session for two hours in Shanghai today.

Filip Djordjevic was left to train separately due to a bruised ankle, but Ravel Morrison, Stefan de Vrij and Stefan Radu all worked with the rest of the squad.

This suggests they are fully recovered and can start next week against Juve.

Pirlo: 'Juve can win Super Cup'

http://www.football-italia.net/70439/pirlo-juve-can-win-super-cup?

Aug 1, 2015

Andrea Pirlo had his first MLS start for New York City FC, but wished Juventus good luck against Lazio in the Italian Super Cup.

Next Saturday his former teammates play in Shanghai for their first trophy of the season, but Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli and Sami Khedira are out injured.

Our US correspondent Marco Messina was at the Press conference at Yankee Stadium.

“I hope I can see some of the match. It’s an important match, they’ll be playing in China so it’s going to be really hot over there. I hope that Juventus can win it!"

The Italy midfielder was on from the beginning as his team lost 3-2 to Montreal Impact this evening.

“It wasn’t a great game, but like I said last time, it takes time to build a team, so these things can happen. Unfortunately we conceded in the beginning but we did our best and we’ll keep improving.

“I’m someone that likes touching the ball, we are looking to get to the best play, we’ve only been together for a short amount of time so it’ll take time to find ourselves as a team all together.

“We need to work on our defence because it’s very important to not concede. We conceded six goals in the past couple of games so it’s definitely something we need to work on.

“MLS is what I expected, a tough league especially when you play in this kind of heat. I hope I’ll be able to continue to improve physically, I feel fine even though it was hot, we’ve been training for 10 days so it’s not really a matter of how many minutes I’ve played, the thing is about playing well.

“I’m here to help teach some of my experience professionally and tactically. The important thing is we all work together to make soccer successful in America.”

Tare: 'Lazio squad now complete'

http://www.football-italia.net/70450/tare-lazio-squad-now-complete?

Aug 2, 2015

Igli Tare said Lazio “are now complete” with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and ready to face Juventus in the Italian Super Cup.

The Biancocelesti are already in Shanghai to prepare for next Saturday’s trophy showdown.

“Now the team is complete,” director of sport Tare told La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport after securing midfielder Milinkovic-Savic from Genk.

“The market doesn’t close until August 31, so something else is possible, but we have done what we needed to do and this could well be it.

“Milinkovic was the missing figure we needed to make the squad complete and competitive. After signing Wesley Hoedt, Ravel Morrison and Patric, we lacked a wide attacker and a midfielder.

“Ricardo Kishna and Milinkovic were the elements we needed to fill those gaps. What we wanted was also to lower the average age of the squad, as we already have experienced figures.

“Lazio did not sell any of their best players. We’ve got two first choices for every position and the right mix to continue the growth we started last season under Stefano Pioli.”

The Aquile surprised everyone by snatching third place in Serie A and reaching the Coppa Italia Final, where they lost to Juventus.

On August 8 they will face Juve again in Shanghai for the Italian Super Cup, then prepare for the Champions League play-off.

It has not been a reassuring build-up, as Lazio lost four consecutive friendly matches this summer.

“I am not remotely worried,” assured Tare. “Defeats are never pleasing, but in a way we had expected them. Pioli wanted to challenge big teams straight away, ones who were at a more advanced stage of fitness training, knowing we could be embarrassed.

“This was the best way to speed up our preparation ahead of the Super Cup and Champions League preliminary round. We will be ready for those dates.”

Barzagli in Super Cup squad

http://www.football-italia.net/70476/barzagli-super-cup-squad?

Aug 2, 2015

Juventus set off for Shanghai where they’ll play the Italian Super Cup against Lazio on Saturday, including Andrea Barzagli.

The Bianconeri only returned last night from a 2-0 friendly defeat to Olympique Marseille and were given most of the day off to rest.

They flew out this evening, stopping via Paris to reach Shanghai, where Lazio have already been for a couple of days.

Giorgio Chiellini and Sami Khedira miss out due to muscular injuries, but Fernando Llorente has recovered from an ankle knock.

Barzagli had been ruled out for three weeks by a thigh problem, but is included in the travelling party in the hopes of making a lightning quick recovery.

There is still no news on how bad Khedira’s hamstring strain is, as a statement only said his condition will be evaluated over the next few days.

Juventus squad for Italian Super Cup: Buffon, Isla, Caceres, Pogba, Zaza, Marchisio, Morata, Coman, Llorente, Barzagli, Mandzukic, Bonucci, Padoin, Dybala, Rugani, Neto, Lichtsteiner, Sturaro, Evra, Rubinho, Pereyra, Audero, Vitale, Parodi, Tello, Vadala

Lazio unveil away kit

http://www.football-italia.net/70502/lazio-unveil-away-kit?

Aug 3, 2015

Lazio have unveiled a new away kit ahead of Saturday’s Supercoppa Italiana clash against Juventus in Shanghai.

The shirt, made my Macron, is based on the same ‘Aquila stilizzata’ design the club released as a home shirt in January to celebrate their 115 year anniversary.

Lazio President Claudio Lotito spoke to Lazio Style Radio at the launch of the shirt in Shanghai today.

“We’ve organised many initiatives to bring the fans closer to the team of their heart and so we decided to present the away shirt here,” he said.

“This is with the hope that the team can develop on the level of merchandising as well as with results.

“We expect everyone at the stadium on August 8 for the final against Juventus. Forza Lazio.”

Candreva: ‘Lazio have advantage’

http://www.football-italia.net/70503/candreva-‘lazio-have-advantage’?

Aug 3, 2015

Lazio winger Antonio Candreva believes the Aquile’s unchanged squad may prove to be an advantage over Juventus in Saturday’s Supercoppa Italiana.

The Old Lady have lost several key players this summer and brought in a host of new signings, while the Biancoceleste have only made minor squad adjustments.

“We have to start again from the Coppa Italia final we lost against Juve,” Candreva told Lazio Style Channel.

“Even though we are far from Rome, there’s a lot of support here. The temperature in China isn’t exactly ideal, but we must get used to it.

“On August 8 the stadium will be full, our squad is still the same as it was last year, with some new young players, and this might be an advantage for us.

“We’re also hoping to have a great league campaign.”
