Doctor fears for Pjaca recovery

Dr. Boris Nemec, head of medical staff for the Croatian national team admits he 'fears for the recovery' of Juventus winger Marco Pjaca.

The Croatian is due to be operated on at the Villa Stuart clinic today after suffering an ACL tear with his national team during the international break.

Professor Mariani, who will perform the operation, is famous for a quick turnaround in these cases, but the Croatian doctor warned against this.

Whilst the procedure has been a success with players such as Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, Roma fullback Alessandro Florenzi suffered the same injury just days after his return.

"Pjaca? I fear for his recovery, because in 45% of cases of players who suffer this type of injury do not come back as before," Nemec told newspaper 24 Sata.

"The method used by Professor Mariani expects a recovery of 4-5 months, but Fifa recommended they take 7-8 months before returning to the field.

"I would never allow the player to return before six months, because there is the risk that the knee ligament will break down again.

"After three months Pjaca will be able to run forward but not to change direction, if a player were to ask me about returning before six months, I would advise him to change doctors."

Pjaca out for six months

Juventus have confirmed that young forward Marko Pjaca will be out for around six months after undergoing surgery on damaged knee ligaments.

Pjaca was stretchered off during Croatia’s 3-0 defeat to Estonia on Tuesday, and Juve have now confirmed the country’s initial prognosis of a cruciate ligament injury.

A statement on Juve’s official website read: “Today Marko Pjaca underwent surgery on his right knee after sustaining a tear of his cruciate ligament and external meniscus while on duty with the Croatian national team last week.

“The operation, conducted by Professor Mariani and in the presence of Juventus club doctor Claudio Rigo, was successful and the player will begin his rehabilitation programme with immediate effect.

“Pjaca is expected to return to regular training again in approximately six months’ time.”

Mariani’s procedures are known for their quick recovery times, with the likes of Arkadiusz Milik and Alessandro Florenzi returning in less than six months, although Croatia’s team doctor has expressed concerns over the professor’s handling of Pjaca.

Juventus winger Marko Pjaca is expected to be out for six months following knee ligament surgery.

The 21-year-old ruptured his right anterior cruciate ligament and damaged his lateral meniscus during the second half of Croatia's 3-0 friendly defeat to Estonia on Tuesday.

A statement on Juventus' official website declared Pjaca's operation to have been "a complete success" before adding he will begin rehabilitative work immediately, with a six-month timeframe set for his return to action.

Pjaca joined Juventus from Dinamo Zagreb last July and made 20 appearances across all competitions in his maiden season for the Serie A champions, with all three of his starts coming since the beginning of February.

It is the second time his Juve career has been interrupted by injury after he spent two months on the sidelines between October and December with a fibula problem.

‘Pjaca will recover 100 per cent’

http://www.football-italia.net/100456/‘pjaca-will-recover-100-cent’

The surgeon who operated on Juventus winger Marko Pjaca assures “his career certainly won’t be compromised”.

It was confirmed earlier this week that the 21-year-old had suffered a cruciate ligament injury while on Croatia duty, and he went under the knife today.

“The operation went well,” Pierpaolo Mariani told reporters outside the Villa Stuart clinic.

“Surgeries of this type are becoming routine now, even if they’re never easy. Pjaca’s career certainly won’t be compromised by this injury, the purpose of sports orthopaedics is to bring an athlete back to the same level.

“In the past there have been examples of players who have won World Cups and Scudetti. The first player I operated on was Aldair, and he won the World Cup six months later so you don’t have to worry.”

Croatia’s doctor has claimed that only 45 per cent of players come back the same as before after an ACL tear…

“Everyone has their own experience, the Croatian doctor will talk about his Croatian experience, and he’s reporting an average FIFA figure done by a Swedish author.

“I think his theory is incorrect though. Nine out of 10 times they return to playing. The player will probably be out for six months, but recovery is subjective in many cases.

“Whether it’s four or seven, the important thing is to follow a well-defined recovery program.

“The lad was tense today and yesterday, it’s clear that he’s disappointed to have suffered this injury.

“Any of us would be demoralised, but I think it’s normal. I can assure all Juve fans though that Pjaca will get back to his previous level.”

Agent: ‘Unlucky season for Pjaca’

http://www.football-italia.net/103776/agent-‘unlucky-season-pjaca’

Jun 7, 2017

Marko Pjaca’s agent says the winger was “very unlucky” with injuries this season but “he’ll be very important for the future of Juventus”.

The Croatian international joined the Bianconeri from Dinamo Zagreb last summer, but a broken leg and then a cruciate ligament injury limited him to just three Serie A starts and 11 substitute appearances.

“The lad was very unlucky with those two injuries which stopped him,” Marko Naletilic explained to TuttoJuve.

“Unfortunately he didn’t have the opportunity to make the most of his skills. It was a very unlucky season, but he showed his potential in some games he played and everyone considers him a potentially great player.

“He is predestined to play at the highest levels, he’ll be very important for the future of Juventus.

“His recovery? The therapy is going very well, progress is being made. I can’t confirm October as a recovery time, the doctor [Pier Paolo] Mariani does miracles with players and works to have them recover as soon as possible.

“I’m of the opinion that it’s better to come back a month later, rather than rush back and risk getting injured again.

“The important thing is not to pressure him and not to rush his return to the pitch.”

Fiorentina ask for Pjaca

http://www.football-italia.net/105687/report-fiorentina-ask-pjaca

Jul 13, 2017

Fiorentina have asked for Juventus to include Marko Pjaca in the Federico Bernardeschi deal, according to reports.

The Bianconeri are working to bring the Italian international to Turin this summer, but the Viola don’t want to sell one of their best players to their biggest rivals.

However, given that Bernardeschi has rejected a new contract at Artemio Franchi, there is a realisation that selling to the Old Lady may be necessary.

Juve are offering €40m with bonuses, while Fiorentina are asking for €40m plus another €10m in bonuses.

According to La Nazione, a deal could potentially be found for €40m plus €5m, but Viola sporting director Pantaleo Corvino is also asking about the chances of including Marko Pjaca.

The Croatian is currently injured, but is valued at around €20m and could lower the cost of the deal.

However, Juventus are highly unlikely to want to sell such a promising player, who only signed from Dinamo Zagreb last year.

Pjaca returns to Juventus training

http://www.football-italia.net/107374/pjaca-returns-juventus-training

Aug 8, 2017

Marko Pjaca reportedly joined his Juventus teammates for this morning’s training session at Vinovo.

The winger suffered a cruciate ligament injury while on Croatia duty in March, missing the tail end of last season.

However, Sky is reporting that he was present for the morning session at Vinovo today, though it’s believed he worked alone for the afternoon session.

Pjaca was present for the athletic workout which makes up the first part of the session, but followed a personalised training regime for the technical-tactical afternoon part.

‘Pjaca would have made CL difference’

http://www.football-italia.net/110032/‘pjaca-would-have-made-cl-difference’

Sep 17, 2017

Marko Pjaca’s agent believes his client would have made the difference in Juventus’ Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid.

Despite equalising through Mario Mandzukic’s spectacular strike, the Old Lady were eventually beaten 4-1 by Zinedine Zidane’s side in Cardiff.

However, Marko Naletelic reckons Croatian Pjaca could have helped Juve stage a comeback had he been fit to take a place on the bench.

“I see the team as very good, especially for what they did in the transfer market,” the agent said of the Serie A champions.

“As I often say, Juve really missed him [Pjaca] in Cardiff. The boss was a little defensive with his line-up, often that can cost you and you lose the match.

“With Marko, however, he would have put him on in the second half and he definitely would have managed to help his teammates to equalise.

“In the Champions League, a team with a shortage of attacking options needs a miracle to get to where they got.”

Pjaca is still on the sidelines after sustaining knee ligament damage back in March, but Naletelic added that his client’s recovery is going well.

“Marko’s recovery is going as well as possible, everything is under control.

“His knee is fine but I still don’t know when he will be back on the pitch.

“The worst period is behind him, mentally he is getting better and he is very motivated to train with the first team.

“Obviously he wants to play again as soon as possible, but he needs to be at 100 per cent.”

The agent firmly believes that there is much more to come from the 22-year-old, signed from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2016.

“When he comes back, his progression will be even better. I am sure that he will be the best reinforcement Juventus could have.

“The real Marko Pjaca still hasn’t been seen due to two injuries which have put him out.”

Pjaca nearing Juventus return

http://www.football-italia.net/110872/pjaca-nearing-juventus-return

Oct 5, 2017

Marko Pjaca could make his Juventus return this month, as it’s reported he’ll start training with the team next week.

The Croatian winger has been out since Marchwith a cruciate ligament injury, which he suffered while on international duty.

According to this morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport, Pjaca will begin working with the rest of the team at Vinovo next week.

While the 22-year-old won’t be rushed back, it’s thought he could return to the pitch by the end of October, depending on his frame of mind.

Pjaca could leave Juve

http://www.football-italia.net/111926/report-pjaca-could-leave-juve

Oct 27, 2017

Marko Pjaca could reportedly be loaned out in January as the winger is still not ready to return for Juventus.

According to Calciomercato.com, Pjaca will not play for Juve’s Primavera team on Friday, despite being expected to do so.

The 22-year-old has not appeared for the Bianconeri since March, when he damaged knee ligaments, and the website notes there are also doubts about his mental state.

Those factors, coupled with the increasing lack of space in the Old Lady’s attack, would therefore leave Pjaca on the periphery.

Calciomercato adds the €23m arrival from Dinamo Zagreb last year needs to prove his ‘suitability’ to Juve again, at a club that “he can find time and space to grow.”

Pjaca was linked with Fiorentina over the summer, as part of the transfer that took Federico Bernardeschi to Turin.

Pjaca back in action for Juventus

http://www.football-italia.net/112960/pjaca-back-action-juventus

Nov 18, 2017

Marko Pjaca finally makes his Juventus comeback after eight months today, featuring for the youth team against Milan.

The 22-year-old Croatia international has been out of action since the end of March, when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a friendly with Estonia.

He is named in the starting XI of the Juventus Primavera youth side, who take on Gennaro Gattuso’s Milan today.

As there are no reserve sides in Serie A, it is typical for players making their way back from long injury lay-offs to get minutes in their legs playing for the youth team instead.

Agent: ‘Pjaca is not for sale’

http://www.football-italia.net/114316/agent-‘pjaca-not-sale’

Dec 15, 2017

Juventus “won’t even listen to offers” for Marko Pjaca, according to the winger’s agent.

The Croatian international has been out with a cruciate ligament injury, but appears to be close to making his return.

“They’ve called me from England, Germany, Italy and France,” Marko Naletilic told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Juventus won’t even listen to offers though, [Coach Max] Allegri has always had important words for Pjaca, and that will be another motivation.

“Marko tells me he’s feeling good and he’s ready to make his return, for a few minutes starting from the bench.”

ALLEGRI HINTS AT LOAN EXIT FOR JUVENTUS WINGER PJACA

The Reds have been linked with a January move for the Croatian and his

Dec 29, 2017

Marko Pjaca could leave Juventus on loan in January as he needs to be playing regular football, head coach Massimiliano Allegri has said.

The 22-year-old has yet to make an appearance in Serie A this season following his recovery from a knee ligament injury sustained in March.

The Croatia international has been linked with Liverpool, with Juve said to be willing to include him as part of an offer for midfielder Emre Can, although his agent claimed this month he would not be sold in a permanent deal.

Allegri insists Pjaca is an important player for the club, but suggested it could be in his best interests to move elsewhere for the rest of the campaign.

"We'll talk to the boy and we'll assess things. He needs to be playing," said Allegri.

"We'll talk and we'll decide on what's best for him and Juventus. He's an important player."

Clubs line up for Juve's Pjaca

http://www.football-italia.net/114914/clubs-line-juves-pjaca

Dec 30, 2017

Juventus are ready to send Marko Pjaca out on loan with Monaco, Atalanta, Schalke 04, Sassuolo and Zenit St Petersburg options.

The Croatia international is yet to play for the senior squad this season, as he only just completed his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered at the end of March.

The 22-year-old has been playing and scoring for the Primavera youth team, contributing two goals and three assists in four games, but now needs a sterner test to find his match fitness.

According to Calciomercato.it, Juve are only prepared to send Pjaca out on loan and will not consider a permanent transfer.

There are several clubs ready to take him abroad, including Monaco, Schalke 04 and Roberto Mancini’s Zenit.

As for other Serie A sides, Atalanta and Sassuolo have both done business with Juventus before by taking players on loan and helping their development.

The Bianconeri are believed to be discussing the various options with Pjaca and his entourage.

Pjaca to be loaned abroad?

http://www.football-italia.net/114973/pjaca-be-loaned-abroad

Dec 31, 2017

It is reported that Marko Pjaca will be allowed to leave Juventus on loan in the January transfer window.

The Croatian is still returning to fitness after suffering knee ligament damage towards the end of last season.

He has made four appearances for the Old Lady’s Primavera team since November and has been on the bench for recent first-team fixtures.

However, he is yet to take to the field under Max Allegri and it appears his standing in Juve’s attacking pecking order has dropped considerably in his absence.

Tutto Juve claim that the Serie A champions now want to send Pjaca away on loan, with a foreign club playing in the Europa League the preferred option.

As such, it is thought German side Schalke and Russian outfit Zent St Petersburg are the favourites to secure his signature.

A loan move is seen as the ideal solution for all parties. The Old Lady cannot guarantee Pjaca playing time but do not want to lose him, while the player is looking to return to form and fitness ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

Pjaca chooses Schalke

http://www.football-italia.net/115029/report-pjaca-chooses-schalke

Jan 2, 2018

Marko Pjaca is expected to undergo a medical with Schalke 04 on Thursday, as he gives the all-clear to a loan from Juventus.

Wolfsburg had dived in with a last-minute proposal along similar lines, but sources including Gazzanet and Sky Sport Italia all claim Pjaca has already made his decision.

The plan is to join Schalke for six months on loan, at a cost of €1m plus €0.5m in bonuses and full payment of his salary during that time.

There is no option to buy, so it’s just about getting regular playing time and recovering fully from a serious knee injury.

The Croatia international is expected to join Schalke in their Winter training camp in Alicante on Thursday, where he will undergo a medical and sign the contract.

Official: Schalke loan Pjaca

http://www.football-italia.net/115124/official-schalke-loan-pjaca

Jan 4, 2018

Schalke have completed the signing of Juventus winger Marko Pjaca on loan until the end of the season.

A statement on Schalke’s official website confirms Pjaca has arrived on a dry loan, without an option to buy, after passing a medical on Thursday.

“We’re glad that Marko has chosen us because several clubs were interested in him,” said Coach Domenico Tedesco.

“He brings more quality to our team. Marko can be used in a variety of positions. He can play right or left and in attack. He’s also robust and quick.

Sporting director Christian Heidel added: “Marko really wanted to join us. We’re certain that he’ll help us immediately.”

Juve paid €23m for the Croatian last year, but injuries have limited him to just 20 appearances for the Bianconeri.

Nonetheless, the 22-year-old has recovered from a knee problem and will step up his recovery in Germany.

Pjaca: Convinced by Howedes

http://www.football-italia.net/115125/pjaca-convinced-howedes

Jan 4, 2018

Schalke new boy Marko Pjaca has revealed that “I spoke to Benedikt Howedes a lot” about leaving Juventus for the German side.

Pjaca has joined Schalke on loan until the end of the season, and the winger believes their style of play will complement him well after consulting with Howedes, who is on loan at Juve from the Royal Blues.

“I spoke to Benedikt Howedes about Schalke a lot, and he had so many positive things to say about the club and the fans here,” he told Schalke TV.

“The Coach has told me a lot about his playing style and I liked that. Now I’m just hoping for as many games as possible.”

Agent: ‘Pjaca has to play next season’

https://www.football-italia.net/115266/agent-‘pjaca-has-play-next-season’

Jan 7, 2018

Marko Pjaca’s agent warns the Juventus winger “won’t accept another season like this” when he returns from Schalke 04.

The Croatian has been sent out on loan for the remaining six months of the season, as he needs playing time as he recovers from a cruciate injury.

The Bianconeri want him back for next season, but his representative says he doesn’t want to sit on the bench.

“Pjaca is a Juventus player who is on loan to Schalke,” explained Marko Naletilic.

“He’s mentally stronger than before because he’s trained with great players and a really well-prepared Coach like [Max] Allegri.

“His objective is to play consistently and help his new Coach reach the Champions League.

“His idea is to return to Juventus as a protagonist, because if he’s physically OK he won’t accept another season like this one.

“The lad understood after the match against Bologna, where he didn’t play even a minute, that he didn’t have much space.

“To get to the World Cup he decided to go out on loan so we asked Juventus if that was a possibility, it was the player’s idea and not the club’s.

“[Giuseppe] Marotta and [Fabio] Paratici [the general manager and sporting director] listened to us, accepted the choice and insisted on a loan with no buyout clause.

“Our problem was choosing a club where Marko would play, it was pointless going just to be on the bench again.

“A lot of teams showed interest in him and it’s not respectful to say who we turned down.

“There were a lot of clubs in Germany, including Wolfsburg, we were honoured by their interest but they came in too late.

“Schalke, on the other hand, through their Coach Domenico Tedesco - who is very talented and has a big future ahead of him - and Christian Heidel showed confidence in Pjaca and convinced him to accept their offer.

“Now it’s up to him to demonstrate what everyone thinks he can do.”

Pjaca scores on Schalke debut

Jan 7, 2018

Juventus-owned Marko Pjaca made an instant impact for Schalke, scoring on his debut in a friendly against Belgian side Genk on Sunday.

Pjaca appeared in the second half and broke the deadlock en route to a 2-1 victory for Schalke over Genk.

The winger only joined the German outfit from Juve in an arrangement until the end of the season on Thursday.

Agent: Pjaca wants Juve chance

https://www.football-italia.net/122654/agent-pjaca-wants-juve-chance

Jun 8, 2018

Marko Pjaca’s agent has rubbished talk that the winger could join Fiorentina as ‘he wants to play for a place at Juventus’.

It had been reported that Pjaca was in talks over a move to Fiorentina, but Marko Naletic insists the 23-year-old is ready to stake his claim in Turin.

“There are no negotiations and my client has never given his willingness to move to Florence,” he told juvenews.eu.

“It’s a complete invention. I repeat, Pjaca wants to play for a place at Juventus.”

Pjaca only played seven times in Bundesliga during a six-month loan at Schalke but will nonetheless represent Croatia at the World Cup.

Juventus reject Pjaca deal

https://www.football-italia.net/123019/juventus-reject-pjaca-deal

Jun 15, 2018

Juventus have made it clear to Valencia that they won’t include Marko Pjaca in any deal for Joao Cancelo, according to reports.

The Bianconeri are pushing to sign the full-back, who spent this season on loan at Inter.

Los Che are demanding €40m to sell the Portuguese, but Tuttosport states that they were willing to include Pjaca in the transfer to lower the cost.

The Spanish side are keen on the Croatian winger, but they have to raise €40m by June 30 to comply with Financial Fair Play.

If they could include Pjaca in a deal for Cancelo that would allow them to sign one of their top targets without negatively affecting the budget.

However, the newspaper believes that Juve have ruled out that option.

Marko Pjaca’s agent has hinted that Fiorentina could sign the Juventus winger after the World Cup. “He must play and find the space he needs.”

Pjaca is reportedly holding out for Fiorentina after refusing to be included in a proposed swap with Valencia’s Joao Cancelo, and Marko Naletic appeared to give credence to the speculation surrounding the ‘best Croatian individual’.

“He’s failed to have the necessary continuity and suffered a serious injury,” he told Radio Sportiva.

“Individually he’s the best Croatian player, especially before his injury, but without continuity you lack the necessary confidence.

“Fiorentina? He said he wanted to wait until the end of the World Cup. After that, we must see what Juventus want to do.

“We want to find the best solution for the lad. He must play and find the space he needs space next season.”

Fiorentina strike Pjaca deal?

Fiorentina reportedly have a deal with Juventus for Marko Pjaca, a loan with option and counter-option.

The Croatian winger joined the Bianconeri in the summer of 2016, but his impact in Turin has been limited by a serious knee injury.

The former Dinamo Zagreb man spent the second half of last season on loan at Schalke 04, scoring twice in nine games.

Now Calciomercato.com is reporting that he’ll continue his career in Florence, with the Viola agreeing a loan deal with Juve.

There will be an option to buy inserted into the deal, but Juve will have a counter-option if Pjaca impresses enough to be brought back to Turin.

The 23-year-old is in Croatia’s World Cup squad, so nothing will be concluded until after Sunday’s final, but the website is confident that Pjaca will join Fiorentina.
