Arsenal, Juve assault on Higuain

http://www.football-italia.net/87215/arsenal-juve-assault-higuain?

Jul 12, 2016

Arsenal are preparing an offer of €60-65m plus Olivier Giroud for Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain, but Juventus could be the surprise third party.

The Pipita is in a particular situation, as the famous €94m buy-out clause in his contract expired on June 30, and president Aurelio De Laurentiis is no longer compelled to accept any offer at all if he doesn't want to.

At the same time, the Argentine's agent recently suggested that Higuain would not be renewing his contract, currently due to expire in 2018, and De Laurentiis must be careful not to be forced into a cheaper sale next summer, or worse yet a free transfer the year after that.

It therefore stands to reason that offers should still be coming in, such as the one presented by Arsenal.

Media in Italy and England alike suggest that the Gunners will offer a cash payment of €60-65m along with French striker Giroud in exchange for Higuain.

The deal would allow Napoli to face the remainder of the transfer window already in possession of a new striker and with a large cash surplus to spend.

La Gazzetta dello Sport also reports that Juventus are interested in a move for the 28-year-old. They do not intend to compete directly with Arsenal, as they are aware that De Laurentiis would prefer selling the player to the Premier League.

Still, they are keeping in touch with the player's agent and father, hopeful that Higuain may at some stage request a move to Juventus himself.

Juventus bid €75m for Higuain?

http://www.football-italia.net/87358/juventus-bid-€75m-higuain

Jul 14, 2016

It’s claimed Juventus have made a bid worth €75m for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain.

The Argentinian forward was Serie A top-scorer last season, but his agent has declared that he won’t renew with the Partenopei.

Now calciomercato.it is sensationally claiming that the Bianconeri are offering €75m for Higuain, who they believe would be willing to move to Turin.

Part of the fee would be covered by exchanging Roberto Pereyra, who is close to Napoli and is worth around €18m.

Arsenal are also interested in Higuain, while the Vesuviani have repeatedly stated that they won’t sell for less than his €94m release clause.

De Laurentiis blocks Higuain sale?

http://www.football-italia.net/87366/de-laurentiis-blocks-higuain-sale

Jul 14, 2016

Reports are growing that Juventus want Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain, but Aurelio De Laurentiis could block the move.

It was reported earlier today that the Bianconeri have made an offer worth €75m for the striker, with Roberto Pereyra included in the deal.

Now Gazzetta dello Sport is also reporting an offer from the champions, stating that they will look to get as close as possible to Higuain’s €94m release clause.

However, Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis is believed to be firmly set against any sale, particularly to a direct rival.

This is despite the fact that Higuain’s agent has made it clear that the Argentinian international will not renew his contract with the Vesuviani.

Reports: Higuain agrees Juventus terms

http://www.football-italia.net/87367/reports-higuain-agrees-juventus-terms

Jul 14, 2016

Multiple reports say Juventus have a deal with Gonzalo Higuain, and could even pay the €94m release clause to Napoli.

Rumours began to emerge earlier today that the Bianconeri had made an offer for the striker, who was Serie A top-scorer last season.

Now Sky and Sportmediaset both report that the Argentinian international has agreed a four-year contract with the Old Lady, which would see him earn €7.5m per season, but there have been no talks between the clubs so far.

The Partenopei are hardly likely to want to sell their biggest star to the side which finished above them last season, so the Turin side are planning to offer players in exchange.

In addition to Simone Zaza, it’s reported that Daniele Rugani, Stefano Sturaro and Simone Zaza will be offered to the Vesuviani.

Both Sky and Mediaset report that if, as expected, President Aurelio De Laurentiis rejects all offers out of hand, Juve would even be willing to pay the €94m release clause over two years.

However, there is some debate over whether the clause is valid after June 30, though Gianluca Di Marzio maintains that it is, and could be paid in two installments.

Sky notes that Higuain is not solely focused on Juventus, so could move to the English Premier League if Napoli were to accept Arsenal’s offer of €60m plus Olivier Giroud.

Meanwhile, Mediaset believes that the striker is so determined to leave Naples, he’s considering the possibility of refusing to report for pre-season training.

Juventus reach agreement with Higuain

The Italian champions have finalised a four-year contract worth €7 million a season with

the Argentina striker and will now look to strike a deal with Serie A rivals Napoli.

Jul 14, 2016

Juventus have agreed a four-year contract with Gonzalo Higuain worth €7 million a year, Goal can confirm.

The Argentina striker has decided to seek a move away from Napoli this summer and Juventus will now attempt to agree a deal with their Serie A rivals.

Higuain has been linked to a number of clubs this summer, including Arsenal, after scoring 36 goals in 35 games in the Italian top flight last season.

Juve are now at the front of the queue to sign him but are reluctant to meet his €94m release clause and are instead ready to offer players in exchange to bring the price down.

The most likely candidate to be swapped is midfielder Roberto Pereyra but promising centre-back Daniele Rugani could also be on the table.

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta will meet with Napoli officials to discuss a potential deal in the coming days.

Juventus' pursuit of a player of Higuain's cost and calibre is likely to heighten speculation around the future of Paul Pogba, who has been linked with a €120m move to Manchester United.

De Laurentiis: ‘Higuain story not true’

http://www.football-italia.net/87368/de-laurentiis-‘higuain-story-not-true’?

Jul 14, 2016

Edo De Laurentiis assures Napoli fans that rumours of Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus are “a hoax”.

There are multiple reports that last season’s capocannoniere has agreed terms with the Bianconeri, who would even be willing to pay his €94m release clause.

That may be necessary, as President Aurelio De Laurentiis is believed to be set against the transfer, and his son believes the deal won’t happen.

“It’s just a hoax, you mustn’t believe everything,” De Laurentiis jr told fans, as reported by TuttoNapoli.

Reports of Juventus and Gonzalo Higuain agreeing

to personal terms appear out of nowhere

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2016/7/14/12193286/gonzalo-higuain

-napoli-juventus-2016-serie-a-summer-transfer-rumors

Jul 14, 2016

In the words of legendary WWE announcer Jim Ross, a man who knows a thing or two about wild occurrences coming out of nowhere, business is about to pick up.

According to Sky Sport Italia and Mediaset — and throw in a couple of others along the way — Juventus and Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain have reportedly agreed to a four-year contract worth €7.5 million a season. There's the whole matter of dealing with an Aurelio De Laurentiis-controlled club now if these reports are to be believe, but the fact still remains that those contract figures are oddly similar to something that Napoli reportedly offered up in the not-so-distant past (like two days ago) and Higuain turned down.

In terms of what it might actually take to get Higuain to Turin vary depending on what source you read. Some say it will take the payment of the player's €94 million release clause. Others say that a fee around €75 million and some sort of player inclusion — at this point, Roberto Pereyra being the most likely to go in the other direction — could be enough to get Napoli to agree to the deal.

Juve can pay Higuain's clause in two installments: €47 mill now, €47 mill next season reports @DiMarzio

Is this out of the blue? Well, yeah, it most most certainly is. Here we thought think that the only thing we'd be focused on during a Thursday in Turin would be Medhi Benatia's medical at JMedical and that's it.

Now, we have this relatively large matter to deal with. And seeing as Juventus are seriously gunning for the Champions League this season, it's not like they're lacking ambition with their previous signings this summer. It will take a lot — a whole heck of a lot — of money to get Higuain to Juventus, but this might just be crazy enough to work. Maybe. I don't know.

I mean, Higuain's brother has more than just a little vocal about things going on at Napoli before, so maybe this isn't so crazy to think about. It's just so out of the blue, I really don't know what to think at this point. (Well, other than how beautiful Miralem Pjanic and Paulo Dybala constantly playing in assists to Gonzalo Higuain would be...)

Not that they're worried about what's going on or anything...

Arsenal may miss Gonzalo Higuain again;

striker set for Juventus move

Arsenal look set to miss out on Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain for a second time; the striker is lined up to sign for Juventus since the Italian champions met his £78 million release clause.

Multiple reports in Italy indicate that Higuain, who scored 36 goals for Napoli last season, will get a four-year deal with Juve, leaving Arsenal to rue another wasted opportunity after their failure to land Jamie Vardy from Leicester earlier this summer.

Higuain's potential move to Turin has led to speculation that the Bianconericould recoup their outlay on the Argentina international by sanctioning the sale of Paul Pogba to Manchester United for a world-record £100m fee.

Mystery over Higuain clause

http://www.football-italia.net/87372/mystery-over-higuain-clause

Jul 15, 2016

Sources disagree on whether Gonzalo Higuain's buy-out clause, which would allow Juventus to force Napoli into a sale, is still valid.

The Bianconeri look set to unleash an absolute storm in Naples by taking the most prolific scorer in Serie A away from their direct rivals.

Aurelio De Laurentiis has repeatedly stated that he does not intend to sell the player, even though some believe the Pipita intends to leave.

Higuain had a buy-out clause that allowed other teams to force a sale, even against Napoli's will, by paying €94m. Surprisingly, though, no-one seems to know whether that crucial clause is active or not.

The Gazzetta dello Sport reported in the last few days that the clause had expired on June 30. Today, they are running the claims by 'the player's entourage', who apparently believe the clause is still valid.

Gianluca Di Marzio and Calciomercato.com both claim that the clause can still be activated, and paid in two yearly instalments of €47m. The latter source believes the expiry date for this item in Higuain's contract is in fact July 31.

However, CalcioNapoli24 claim to have contacted Napoli themselves, whose official sources allegedly confirmed that the clause expired on June 30.

Arsenal Transfer News: Huge Gonzalo Higuain

Blow Amid Juventus Talk

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2652228-arsenal-transfer-news-

huge-gonzalo-higuain-blow-amid-juventus-talk-top-rumours?

Jul 15, 2016

Arsenal's hopes of landing reported transfer target Gonzalo Higuain are said to have suffered a significant blow, with Juventus close to landing the Napoli striker.

That’s according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Rory Brigstock-Barron of MailOnline), which has stated the Italian champions are ready to make a whopping player-plus-cash offer for the Argentina man. It’s said they’ll bid £58.2 million for the forward, offering Roberto Pereyra and Rolando Mandragora to make up the striker’s (€94 million) £78.2 million release clause.

As noted by Brigstock-Barron, Higuain has long been linked with a possible move to the Emirates Stadium, “but according to the Italian media the deal is almost set in stone.”

However, per the aforementioned piece, it’s reported by TuttoNapoli that the son of Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis told supporters, “it's just a hoax, you mustn't believe everything.”

The 28-year-old enjoyed the finest campaign of his career in 2015-16, netting 36 league goals in 35 appearances. Here is a look at them:

Football Italia reported there is still confusion over whether the release clause in Higuain’s contract remains active. According to the piece, Gazzetta believes the clause expired on June 30, while Gianluca Di Marzio and Calciomercato.com have suggested the €94 million trigger amount is still valid.

While the Bianconeri recovered after a poor start to the season to win the league title comfortably, Napoli were the team that looked most likely to put them under pressure. That was, in the main, due to the sensational goalscoring of their No. 9.

Higuain is one of the most lethal forwards around.

Indeed, Higuain cemented his world-class credentials last term. While he may be renowned as a footballer who can shirk the big occasion, he’s as lethal as they come in front of goal. Serie A defences struggled to cope with his sharp movement in the penalty area and his ability to hit the target from a range of positions.

Although he was the standout player in Serie A last season, Bleacher Report’s Adam Digby is unsure whether Juventus should be parting with so much for the striker:

Very good point raised in @AroundJFans chat. If you can afford €94m for Higuain, why not go for Icardi? Cheaper fee/salary, 6 years younger?

Juve seem intent on building a side that can win the UEFA Champions League in the short term, though, with the capture of veteran defender Dani Alves and midfield maestro Miralem Pjanic big statements of intent.

Arsenal would love to add a striker of Higuain’s calibre to their ranks, but the Bianconeri look set to blow them out of the water.

Napoli: Bacca, Icardi if Higuain...

http://www.football-italia.net/87381/napoli-bacca-icardi-if-higuain

Jul 15, 2016

Milan's Carlos Bacca and Inter's Mauro Icardi are among Napoli's possible targets if Juventus buy Gonzalo Higuain.

If the Bianconeri are indeed able to take the Argentinian superstar to Turin, it will cause an earthquake in Serie A. Not only will fans in the south be utterly enraged, but a domino effect can be expected to kick in that will see numerous strikers move.

One poacher who could be affected, according to the Gazzetta dello Sport, is Inter's Icardi. There is now a rift between the 23-year-old, whose wife and agent is asking for a substantial raise, and his club.

Napoli could make a sudden move for the player if they are able to cash in from Higuain. There may, however, be some difficulties due to the fact that Aurelio De Laurentiis traditionally asks his players to give up their image rights. Icardi is unlikely to agree to that, as he has some substantial deals with his sponsors.

The Vesuviani could then turn their attention to Milan's Bacca, who is also touted for a move. The player stated that he will only remain with the Rossoneri if their project convinces him, but many believe the club will sell him regardless and use the cash to invest on the market.

Ignore price-tag for Higuain-Juventus

The price-tag for Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain is big, writes

Vincent Van Genechten, but for Juventus this is about so much more.

http://www.football-italia.net/87385/ignore-price-tag-higuain-juventus

Jul 15, 2016

Oh what a shock it was… There were rumours about ongoing negotiations between Gonzalo Higuain and Juventus, with the Bianconeri expected to make a formal offer to Napoli. But with only Tuttosport breaking the news, it was a game of wait-and-see before jumping to conclusions.

Later on, Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed that Juve had struck a personal deal with the 28-year-old striker, offering him a four-year deal that will net Higuain €7.5m per year, making him the best-paid player among the Italian champions. The Argentine goal-getter thereby confirmed his intention to leave Napoli after scoring a record 36 goals in Serie A last season.

But now the most difficult part of Juve’s assault begins: trying to convince the Partenopei, one of the club’s biggest rivals, to sell their star player. There’s some debate on Higuain’s €94m release clause. Is it still valid or not? La Gazzetta and CalcioNapoli24 say it expired on June 30, while Di Marzio and Calciomercato claim it hasn’t and can be paid in two instalments of €47m.

Yes or no, it doesn’t really matter. Higuain has shocked the peninsula by agreeing to join Juventus from Napoli, the team that battled them the longest last season. After securing the services of Miralem Pjanic from AS Roma, the Old Lady are establishing themselves as the only true top club in Serie A. The only team that can actually think about completing such transfers.

Even if Higuain doesn’t end up playing in Turin, Juventus still won the war. With Inter and Milan busy trying to find a way to finish in the top three, Napoli and Roma were the Bianconeri’s biggest domestic rivals. Even with the Giallorossi making some quality moves on the transfer market, they still lost their most valuable player to Juve.

Meanwhile, the Partenopei are primed to lose the one player that kept them in the Scudetto race for months. Even if they refuse to sell him to the team that beat them to it, the chances of Higuain returning to Napoli are diminishing every day. Meaning, in a span of just a few weeks, Juventus have hit both Roma and Napoli with a massive strike.

Juventus have shown not only Serie A, but the whole football world, that they are back in business. Due to a combination of smart management, solid investments and success on the pitch, the Bianconeri are once again ready to battle anyone in Europe, football wise and financially. Just look at how they are withstanding huge offers for Leonardo Bonucci and Paul Pogba. This should send a message to all Serie A clubs that a smart financial policy is the basic recipe for success.

And what if Juventus are able to land Higuain despite the odds being against them? Some say it’s crazy to pay such a huge transfer fee for a guy who’s about to turn 29 in December. Others say Juve will have to give up too much talent in addition to the cash in order to get him.

Whether the Old Lady are paying the release clause in two instalments or adding Roberto Pereyra and Simone Zaza to lower the fee, Higuain makes their squad better. Football players are at their physical peak between ages 27 and 32, meaning the Argentine has three quality years ahead of him.

Just look at how Zlatan Ibrahimovic (34) and Cristiano Ronaldo (31) once again dominated last season. On top of that, Higuain hasn’t missed any game due to injury the past two seasons. So, you know what you are getting from him, just like Juventus knew what they were getting when they spent more than €80m on 28-year-old Pavel Nedved and 29-year-old Lilian Thuram in 2001.

At a time when huge fees are paid on potential, the Bianconeri are more than willing to pay for experience. Their window to finally win another Champions League trophy has never been so wide open, so Juve want to take their chances. And who can blame them? If Higuain joins, the Old Lady are primed for a couple of huge seasons. If he doesn’t, they still are. In the end, that’s the biggest story.

Juventus-Higuain on Monday

http://www.football-italia.net/87384/juventus-higuain-monday

Jul 15, 2016

Napoli and Juventus will meet on Monday about Gonzalo Higuain as Edo De Laurentiis is vague on the subject.

The Bianconeri's assault on the Argentine superstar is dominating football headlines in Italy, but it probably won't be resolved until next week.

The Partenopei's president Aurelio De Laurentiis has a meeting with the Old Lady's sporting director Beppe Marotta at the Lega Serie A on Monday.

Although the meeting had originally been scheduled to discuss the transfer of Roberto Pereyra, it's now going to include talk of Higuain as well.

Marotta is expected to present his offer for the 28-year-old, which may include the likes of Pereyra, Daniele Rugani, and Simone Zaza, or else be a cash payment alone of €94m. De Laurentiis will listen to the offer, although he has repeatedly stated he does not intend to sell Higuain.

In the meantime the fans in Naples are already losing patience. De Laurentiis' son Edo, who previously denied the story, was spotted in Dimaro, and a fan called out not to sell Higuain.

De Laurentiis jr. responded with a gesture that seemed to dismiss that possibility, according to CalcioNapoli24, and then told the fans “Guys, you have to keep calm” as more people called out to him.

Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain

wants Juventus transfer - Sky in Italy

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain is keen to join Juventus

this summer, according to Sky in Italy.

gonzalo-higuain-wants-juventus-transfer-sky-in-italy?

Jul 15, 2016

Juventus are interested in bringing the Argentina international to the club ahead of the new Serie A season, but are yet to open formal talks with Napoli.

Higuain has a 94m euros release clause in his contract, a figure Juventus are willing to meet by offering cash as well as players.

If Napoli reject the players offered, they would allow the Italian champions to pay the release clause over a two-year period.

Sky in Italy understand the players Napoli would consider are Simone Zaza, Roberto Pereyra, Stefano Sturaro and Daniel Rugani.

Napoli are also aware of interest in Higuain from Arsenal, but there has been no contact from the Gunners over a deal for the 28-year-old.

Higuain, who joined Napoli from Real Madrid in 2013, has two years remaining on his contract at the Stadio San Paolo.

He ended the 2015/16 season as the top scorer in Serie A with 36 goals and has scored 91 times in 146 appearances for Napoli.

Report: Higuain clause still valid

http://www.football-italia.net/87391/report-higuain-clause-still-valid

Jul 15, 2016

Napoli’s official radio station believes that Gonzalo Higuain’s release clause is still valid, meaning Juventus could theoretically trigger it.

Pipita has a €94m release clause in his contract, but there has been some debate over whether it’s valid after June 30.

The Partenopei have yet to make an official statement on the matter, but their official radio station believes that the clause is indeed still valid.

Calciomercato and Gianluca Di Marzio have reported that it could be paid in two instalments, which would be an attractive option for the Bianconeri.

It’s widely reported the Turin giants have agreed terms with the player, so they must now negotiate with his club, and talks are reportedly scheduled for Monday.

Higuain doesn’t mean Pogba leaves

http://www.football-italia.net/87391/report-higuain-clause-still-valid

Jul 15, 2016

It’s reported that Juventus could pay Gonzalo Higuain’s release clause without sacrificing Paul Pogba or Leonardo Bonucci.

The Bianconeri are thought to have agreed terms with the Napoli striker, so now they must negotiate with the Partenopei.

However, with President Aurelio De Laurentiis unwilling to do business, it’s widely believed they’d have to pay Higuain’s €94m release clause.

That has led to speculation that Paul Pogba would be sold to Manchester United, or Leonardo Bonucci to Manchester City, to finance the move.

However, the website Calcio e Finanza [Football and Finance] has crunched the numbers and believes the Turin giants could afford to hold their stars and sign Higuain.

With the arrivals of Miralem Pjanic, Dani Alves and Medhi Benatia, as well as making Mario Lemina’s loan deal permanent, the Old Lady have €37m more on the budget than last year.

Given that Higuain is thought to have agreed a €7.5m per season contract, paying his clause in two instalments would almost double that figure to €75m.

However, Alvaro Morata’s €30m return to Real Madrid has created a €16.7m profit, which rises to €25m when wages and depreciation are taken into account.

When one adds in the fact that Kingsley Coman’s loan at Bayern Munich has been renewed and will almost certainly be made permanent for €21m, Martin Caceres and Rubinho have left and Simone Padoin has transferred to Cagliari, the website claims a total saving of €44m.

Roberto Pereyra is expected to join Napoli for between €15m and €18m - or a discount of the same amount on Higuain - while Simone Zaza’s prospective move to Wolfsburg should bring in between €25m and €30m.

Even on the lower end of the scale, the two operations would therefore bring in an extra €40m, thus balancing out the €75m which would go on Higuain.

Understanding Gonzalo Higuain's

Potential Transfer to Juventus

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2652244-understanding-

gonzalo-higuains-potential-transfer-to-juventus?

Jul 15, 2016

It is becoming increasingly rare that a transfer rumour still has the power to shock in this era of round-the-clock news, but on Thursday evening, a story broke in Italy and sent shock waves throughout the peninsula.

Media outlets across the country linked Juventus with a move for their rivals' biggest star, Gonzalo Higuain, with some incredible details emerging as the evening developed. According to Sky Italia andMediaset (h/t Football Italia), the Bianconeri had already agreed to terms with the striker on a four-year contract.

In that same report, both insisted that the Turin giants—while hoping to include the likes of Daniele Rugani, Stefano Sturaro and SimoneZaza—were willing to pay Higuain's €94 million release clause shouldNapoli reject an exchange.

Friday's @CorSport front page "Shock turnaround: Higuain, Juve are there"

It is here that some confusion arises, however, as La Gazzetta delloSport (h/t Football Italia) insists that the stipulation in the player’s contract expired on June 30, meaning that the Bianconeri would need to negotiate with Napoli.

That would likely prove to be almost impossible given the rivalry between the two clubs, but Gianluca Di Marzio believes the clause remains valid. The Italian transfer expert wrote at length about a potential deal on his own website—translated here by David Amoyal—and notes that the fee could even be paid in two annual instalments.

Such an arrangement would make a move much more palatable toJuventus, who have been extremely careful with their finances over the past five seasons, investing when they need to but always seeking out good value in the market.

The same is true of Napoli, of course, with owner Aurelio De Laurentiissteering a remarkable turnaround of the club, and he is unlikely to allow Higuain to leave without a fight. His son Edoardo told La Gazzettadello Sport (h/t ESPN FC) that the “whole thing is a hoax” and the same Italian newspaper believes the club president is also preparing a counter offer.

According to their reporter Vincenzo D’Angelo (h/t Gazzetta World),De Laurentiis will attempt to keep Higuain at Napoli with a new contract that will pay him a staggering €7.5 million per season after tax.

Fans of the Partenopei must hope that such a deal is successful—or at least that their owner can force the Argentina international to move abroad, because losing him to Juventus would wreck the competitive balance of Serie A irreparably.

He's ours! @Miralem_Pjanic speaks for the first time as a Bianconeri player. #WelcomeMiralem

This summer has already seen the Bianconeri sign Miralem Pjanic—arguably the best player AS Roma had—and it was only Higuain’s goalscoring that made the league anything resembling a contest last term.

The 29-year-old plundered a staggering 36 goals in 35 appearances, setting a new Serie A record and helping Napoli provide a title challenge that would not exist without him. Juventus, already crowned champions in each of the last five seasons, would exert a dominance similar to that currently seen in Germany and France.

9 - Higuain set a new record for goals scored in a single Serie A season (36). Striker. #OptaBest11

Like Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, signing Higuain would create a gap between the Bianconeri that domestic opponents could not overcome and one that would leave the rest fighting for second place.

However, that is arguably of no concern to the Old Lady, who has repeatedly made clear that her aims lie elsewhere in the immediate future as coach Massimiliano Allegri explained in a recent interview with Jtv and the club’s official website:

Winning the sixth Scudetto is our primary objective this season, as well as having a good Champions League campaign. And when I say a good Champions League campaign, I mean our objective needs to be to go as far as possible and win it. That said, we need to take it steady, work every day and lay the foundations for a great season between now and 31 August, when the campaign gets underway.

Adding a clinical striker like Higuain would help the Juve boss achieve just that, as the former Real Madrid star proved throughout 2015/16. In his history-chasing quest, he found the net with all manner of goals; headers, volleys, tap-ins and snap-shots, eventually sealing his new record with a superb overhead kick.

That rounded off a hat-trick on the final day against Frosinone, with the video shown above highlighting the diverse manner in which he amassed that incredible tally. He was helped by the team playing almost exclusively for him, Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri’s system designed to get him the ball in a position to score as often as possible.

That resulted in Higuain taking more shots than any player in Europe’s top five leagues other than Cristiano Ronaldo, his 5.2 efforts per game trailing only the Portugal star’s 6.3 according to figures taken fromWhoScored.com. The Squawka graphic below shows just how deadly accurate he was with those attempts.

Gonzalo Higuain 2015/16

He scored one more league goal than the Real Madrid icon, with his nearest rival in Serie A—none other than Juve’s Paulo Dybala—managing "only" 19 league goals. It was a phenomenal return fromHiguain, with Roberto Mancini perhaps giving the most succinct analysis of his impact when he spoke to the Corriere dello Sport back in December.

"In Italy, Higuain is like Messi in La Liga and the Champions League. There's him and then the rest in Serie A in his wake," the Inter Milancoach said (h/t ESPN FC). "He scores once or twice a game and can be decisive with every touch he makes."

Clearly that was the case, yet questions remain over his mental fragility and—aside from hisCapocannoniere crown—Higuainstill ended the season empty-handed. That stark reality brings to mind Allegri's words when his side equalled the club’s previous mark of 12 consecutive victories back in January as they continued their own Scudetto push.

"To me, records don't matter," the Livorno native told a press conference. "What's the point of winning 20 in a row if it doesn't win you the title?" Allegri asked, and that lack of silverware may yet be what drives Higuain to make this surprising move.

It would be a decision that Miralem Pjanic would sympathise with. At his official unveiling, the former Roma midfielder explained to reporters what he had already discovered about life with theBianconeri.

"Now that I'm inside, I can see and understand why it was always difficult to get in front of them," the Bosnia international said at his first press conference. "They have the team to keep winning and improve even more. There is a difference from where I was in the past to the present."

Ik vind een @YouTube-video leuk: http://youtu.be/OEL3KrLcv-M?a Gekkenhuis in stadio San Paolo als Gonzalo Higuaín scoort.

But while this transfer would seemingly be good for both Juventus andHiguain, it would almost certainly be a devastating blow to Napoli and their supporters, who recently adapted the words of a DiegoMaradona chant for their new Argentinian idol.

"Oh mamma, mamma, mamma," they sing at the Stadio San Paolo. "Do you know why my heart is beating? I’ve seen Higuaín." They might not be so welcoming if he returns there wearing the black-and-white stripes of their most bitter rivals.

Juventus told to pay €94m for Higuain

http://www.football-italia.net/87425/juventus-told-pay-€94m-higuain

Jul 15, 2016

Gonzalo Higuain is still eager for a Juventus move, it’s reported, and a crunch meeting with Napoli is set for Monday.

The striker has a release clause worth €94m and it does not appear to have a deadline, but the Bianconeri are trying to offer players in part-exchange, including Roberto Pereyra.

According to multiple reports, Monday will be decisive for Higuain, as there is a Lega Serie A meeting that will be attended by Juventus chief Beppe Marotta and Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Napoli’s main radio station Radio Kiss Kiss also stated that De Laurentiis will “clear up” the situation with an interview on Monday.

Sky Sport Italia note Napoli only want a pure cash sum and have absolutely no intention of negotiating, especially not with Serie A rivals Juventus.

If they are to lose Pipita, they’d prefer to send him abroad to Arsenal, but again want the €94m cash (£78.6m).

Higuain is due to arrive at the Napoli pre-season training camp on July 25 after his Copa America experience.

He turns 29 in December and last term shattered Serie A records with 36 goals in 35 games.

Juve: 'Higuain far, Pogba and Bonucci...'

http://www.football-italia.net/87429/juve-higuain-far-pogba-and-bonucci

Jul 15, 2016

Juventus director Fabio Paratici discussed Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain and the possible need to replace Paul Pogba and Leonardo Bonucci.

Paratici is the right hand man to director general Beppe Marotta and often takes part in transfer negotiations.

He spoke to reporters at an event this evening and was asked about the latest transfer gossip.

“We had gone looking for Higuain before he joined Napoli and spoke to Real Madrid, but failed to reach an economic agreement,” said Paratici.

“Without that, we did not speak with the lad either.”

Should Napoli be worried now?

“No, I don’t think so. All big clubs know that their top players can receive enticing offers. We at Juve, for example, have Bonucci and Pogba who are highly sought-after by many clubs and we have prepared for eventual replacements. That is what Napoli will be doing as well, certainly.

“In any case, Higuain is something far away from us. I hear talk that Napoli like more than one of our players, but I can guarantee that at the moment no offers have arrived and therefore there are no negotiations either.”

Marko Pjaca is continuing to consider his position, as the Dinamo Zagreb winger is leaning towards Juventus rather than Milan.

“He is an authentic talent, young, so it is our duty to follow him closely.”

Juventus would attain "super club" status with Gonzalo Higuain deal

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/italian-serie-a/12/blog/post/2913305/juventus-would-

become-european-super-club-if-they-sign-gonzalo-higuain

Jul 16, 2016

"Silly season" is now officially open. That is how Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis reacted to reports that Juventus have laid the groundwork to take Gonzalo Higuain, Serie A's top scorer and MVP, to the J Stadium. The news late on Thursday night, that Juventus have an agreement with Higuain to sign a four-year contract that would make him the highest-paid player in Italy thanks to a €7.5 million-per-season deal, got everybody's attention.

A failure to keep the promises Napoli made him upon signing for the club three years ago is apparently why Higuain is willing to accept the offer, regardless of the allegations of betrayal it will bring from a city and a fan base that has treated him like no other player since Diego Maradona. It's now up to Juventus to strike a deal.

Higuain has a buy-out clause in his contract worth €94.5m, but it was thought it had expired at the end of last month. Although the clause is prohibitively high -- another reason for discontent among Higuain's entourage -- it is still in effect and can apparently even be paid in two installments of €47m.

Juventus will of course seek to avoid paying the full amount as they did with Miralem Pjanic earlier this summer. He had a buy-out clause worth €38m in his contract with Roma, but Juventus ended up paying less after Pjanic waived his right to 15 percent of the transfer.

r103420_1296x729_16-9.jpg&w=738&site=esp
Signing Higuain would make Juve seemingly unbeatable and weaken a major rival all at the same time.

To get a deal for Higuain over the line, Juventus could offer Napoli players in exchange. They were already in separate negotiations to sell Roberto Pereyra to them for €18m; a package including Daniele Rugani (unlikely), Stefano Sturaro or Rolando Mandragora and Simone Zaza would have an appeal and minimise the cash outlay.

Ultimately, Juventus have so many chips they can cash in. But would all of them be on board with it?

One of the themes of this summer in Italy has been players like Axel Witsel, Davy Klaassen, Sime Vrsaljko, Piotr Zielinski, Marko Pjaca and Gianluca Lapadula all turning Napoli down for a variety of reasons. For now, de Laurentiis is playing hard ball and if Juventus want Higuain, it looks as if they will have to pay full price. The question is obvious: how can they possibly afford to do so, particularly with Marko Pjaca also supposedly on his way from Dinamo Zagreb? And does a move like this point to the sale of Paul Pogba?

Remarkably enough the line out of Juventus is that it doesn't. So far, the wage bill has only risen by €4m this summer and the expectations are that Higuain and extensions for Pogba and Bonucci will follow. The additions of Pjanic, Dani Alves and now Mehdi Benatia (on loan with an option to buy next summer) have been offset to an extent by the exits of Alvaro Morata, Juan Cuadrado, Martin Caceres, Simone Padoin and Rubinho.

int_160714_fc_paul_pogba_segment_0714.jp
ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti says Manchester United could be intrigued by the 'Paul Pogba brand' that comes with the French footballer.

Morata's sale back to Real Madrid for €30m has covered the purchase of Pjanic. The cost of Alves (free] and Benatia is negligible (€3m for now). Meanwhile they have plenty of offers for Pereyra (€18m), Zaza (€25m from Wolfsburg) and Mario Lemina (€17m from Stoke and West Brom). If Juventus were to complete all those deals, it would mean a cool €60m for them to pay the first instalments for Higuain and Pjaca.

It's true that the Old Lady has a lot of balls in the air right now when it comes to the transfer market. But amid all the scepticism (notably outside of Italy), Juventus believe they can pull this off without losing any of their big players. Even if Pogba does go -- which, as I wrote last week, is not the intention -- the blow will have been significantly softened.

If we pause to reflect on that scenario, Juve will presumably not only have taken a world-record transfer fee for a player they signed more or less for free four years ago, but they will have weakened both their rivals for the title by luring their most decisive players to Turin. Pjanic scored 10 goals and had 12 assists in Serie A last season, while Higuain broke a single-season scoring record that had stood since 1950.

Inevitably, Juve's approach has been compared with what Bayern have been doing for years in the Bundesliga. Perhaps their imitation shouldn't come as much of a surprise when you consider how close president Andrea Agnelli and Karl Heinz Rummenigge have become: both appeared side-by-side in Milan in January to encourage talk of a European Super League.

r103421_1296x729_16-9.jpg&w=738&site=esp
The purchase of Pjanic weakened AS Roma and showed that Juve have well and truly transcended into super club territory.

Naturally, there is a concern about the impact the Pjanic and (possibly) Higuain deals will have on Serie A's competitive balance. Juventus now look likely to do what Lyon did in France in the early-to-mid-2000s. In 2014, you could make a case for the Old Lady losing her crown when Conte left, just as you could in 2015 when Arturo Vidal, Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez moved on. Not anymore.

They're in a different league. Always one of Europe's traditional elite clubs, Juventus are now closing in on the status as a bona fide super club. Almost 10 years to the day since Calciopoli and their relegation to the second division, Juve's resurrection, particularly in the last six years, is down to almost impeccable management from top to bottom.

Imagine for a moment, if you will, the team Max Allegri could field next season. Gianluigi Buffon and the "BBC" (Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini) at the back, Alves and Alex Sandro out wide, Pogba, Pjanic and one of Claudio Marchisio or Sami Khedira in midfield and Higuain up front with Paulo Dybala.

Juventus would no longer be outsiders for the Champions League. They'd be among the genuine favourites. They believe this is their year.

Three reasons why Juventus should sign Gonzalo Higuain

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2016/7/16/12197328/three-reasons-why-juventus-

should-sign-gonzalo-higuain-2016-serie-a-transfer-rumors

Jul 16, 2016

Over the past 24 hours or so, Juventus have been linked with a transfer coup of sorts. Serie A’s ‘Il Capocannoniere’ from last season, Gonzalo Higuain, is being touted for a shock move from Napoli to the Bianconeri.

We take a look here at the player, and discuss three reasons why Juventus should indeed look at signing the 29-year-old Argentinian striker.

 Transfermarkt
Gonzalo Higuain Statistics
 WhoScored.com
Gonzalo Higuaín Characteristics

Weakens Juventus’ closest Serie A rivals

This is a move patented by Bayern Munich over the years. The German giants have always been a big club, but have systematically gone about cutting down any opponents who have come even close to approaching them season after season by cherry-picking the best talent the Bundesliga has to offer. Just over the last decade or so, here is the list of players they’ve captured: Manuel Neuer (Schalke); Robert Lewandoski, Mario Gotze, Mats Hummels (all from Borussia Dortmund); Dante (Borussia Moenchengladbach); Michael Ballack, Ze Roberto (Bayer Leverkusen); Miroslav Klose (Werder Bremen).

The capture of Miralem Pjanic this offseason weakens AS Roma, and as Napoli are Juventus’ next closest rivals, they should be the next target. Stealing away their figurehead and the player that they hung their Scudetto hopes on last season would be a move akin to getting ‘The Divine Ponytail’ Roberto Baggio away from Fiorentina many years ago.

The management of Juventus have shown over the decades that they are not afraid to sign older players with experience, even if they are entering the latter stages of their contracts. This move reaffirms that belief.

A proven finisher to replace Álvaro Morata

Juventus are yet to sign a direct replacement for Morata. Pairing Higuain with Paulo Dybala is a 1-2 punch that should knock the socks off any Serie A opponent. They are likely to become Argentina’s front pairing in coming years, too, which will only help their chemistry together. Higuain and Dybala were the top two scorers in Serie A last season, with 55 goals between them — only one team outside the top three in the entire League scored more than that. Higuain also has 30 goals in 63 appearances for the Argentina national squad.

Then there’s the Champions League. This coming season is widely expected to be all about the UCL, an attempt to give longtime goalkeeper and club legend Gianluigi Buffon the ‘Big Ears.’ It’s no surprise that it’s looking like Juve are going all out to make this dream come true for San Gigi.

In 2015-16 Europa, Napoli chose to save Higuain’s legs for the Scudetto. He started two games, appeared as a sub in three, and scored two goals. In 2014-15 Europa, he had seven goals in 14 appearances. Morata’s seven goals in 20 in Champions League appearances will be hard to match, especially since most of them came at key moments, a definite weakness in Higuain’s arsenal where he seems to disappear when needed the most.

Juventus don’t need to sell Paul Pogba to get Higuain

This is another key point for this team. If Juve were planning on selling Pogba, then they would be looking at getting one or two midfielders to replace him, not a striker. As has been widely reported in the media, the Bianconeri have the funding to get Higuain after Morata's €30 million, Mario Lemina's €15 million and Rolando Mandragora's €10 million (for a total of €55m). Throwing in Roberto Pereyra to sweeten the pot means Juve can get the Argentinian striker for a pretty reasonable sum without mortgaging the future either by losing any young core members.

An exchange offer with Pereyra, Simone Zaza, Stefano Sturaro and Daniele Rugani in the deal has also been mentioned, but it’s also being reported that Juve are very reluctant to let Rugani leave. If the player exchange plus cash doesn’t work out though, Juventus are said to be ready to activate the €94 million release clause for the player and there is very little Napoli can do about it.

Transfer wizard and General Director Beppe Marotta has often been quoted saying that money is not an issue, and that if the management are convinced by a player and his ability, they will do whatever it takes to get him.

Gonzalo Higuain move to Juventus 'a distant thing' - Juve chief

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/story/2913416/gonzalo-higuain-move-to-juventus-a-distant-thing-juve-chief

Jul 16, 2016

Juventus are not close to signing Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, according toBianconeri director Fabio Paratici.

Although Napoli have played down reports of their star striker moving to the Italian champions, reports persist that Juve are closing in on a deal to sign the former Real Madrid man.

Paratici, did not rule out a move for Higuain in the future and talked up Napoli's interest in a number of Juventus players but claimed that any deal was a long way off yet.

"All the big clubs know that their top players can receive tempting offers," Paratici is quoted as saying in Gazzetta dello Sport. "At Juve, for example, we have the [Leonardo] Bonucci and [Paul] Pogba interest from many clubs and are prepared for possible replacements. That is what Napoli would be doing as well, certainly.

"However, Higuain for us is a distant thing. I hear that Napoli like more than one of our players, but I guarantee at this moment there are no offers and no negotiations."

Paratici admitted Juve had tried to sign Argentina international Higuain before Napoli did in 2013, but were unable to reach an agreement with the player.

"We tried before Napoli to talk with Real but did not reach an agreement," he said. "Because that failed, we didn't approach him."

Napoli radio: 'Higuain to Arsenal'

http://www.football-italia.net/87456/napoli-radio-higuain-arsenal

Jul 16, 2016

The official Napoli radio station claims Gonzalo Higuain “will almost certainly join Arsenal for €50m plus Olivier Giroud” to avoid him going to Juventus.

The striker has a €94m release clause in his contract and his agent – also his brother – declared this month that there will not be a renewal because the team isn’t strong enough to compete for silverware.

Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli is the official radio station of the club and host Francesco Marciano made his suggestion this afternoon.

“At the moment the rumour linking Higuain to Juve is true, but I am certain that in the end Pipita will leave Napoli to go abroad.

“He will almost certainly join Arsenal. For now the Gunners are offering €50m plus Giroud. Arsenal are trying to free up funds by selling players so they can increase the economic part of the proposal.”

Napoli have implied they will not negotiate, so are only prepared to sell Higuain if someone activates the €94m release clause.

However, if the choice is between reinforcing their Serie A rivals Juventus or sending Higuain to Arsenal, Aurelio De Laurentiis will certainly opt for the latter.

The Argentine shattered Serie A records going back to the 1960s by scoring 36 goals in just 35 games last season.

Napoli's two plans for Higuain

http://www.football-italia.net/87470/napolis-two-plans-higuain

Jul 16, 2016

Napoli are set to offer Gonzalo Higuain €8m per year wages and a halved release clause to fight off Juventus and Arsenal interest.

The Argentine’s brother declared he would not sign a contract extension because he was unhappy at the conditions, which don’t just refer to the deal itself, but also the lack of reinforcements.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Napoli have two plans in place for the Pipita problem.

The first is to keep him by offering wages worth €8m per season to 2018 and crucially a halved release clause from €94m to €47m.

In effect, this is just a ploy to hold the striker for one more year and then allow him to leave for a club of his choice.

If he still doesn’t accept that deal, then Napoli are refusing to negotiate with his preferred destination Juventus.

The Partenopei will only accept €94m cash, all in one instalment and not tempered by the inclusion of other players.

If Juventus meet those conditions, then Napoli will have little choice, much as Roma could not resist when they activated the clause in Miralem Pjanic’s contract.

However, if it comes to that, Napoli will try to send Higuain abroad rather than reinforce their Serie A arch rivals.

It means they could well be prepared to negotiate a cash plus player exchange with Arsenal.

Higuain was signed from Real Madrid in July 2013 for €38m and shattered Serie A records last term with 36 goals in 35 games.

His current contract runs to June 2018 and he will turn 29 years old in December.
