Juve in for Rincon

http://www.football-italia.net/94419/juve-rincon?

Nov 16, 2016

Juventus Director General Beppe Marotta is reportedly interested in Genoa midfielder Tomas Rincon.

The Venezuelan has been with the Grifone since 2014, and according to La Repubblica, could be soon to make a switch to Turin.

The Bianconeri are said to be willing to offer either Hernanes or Rolando Mandragora in a swap deal for the 28-year-old, in a transfer that is likely to be permanent rather than a loan move.

Rincon has been a valuable asset to the Rossoblu, scoring three goals and providing six assists last season, and could be loaned straight back to the club by Juventus should the deal go through.

Juventus ‘very close to Rincon’

http://www.football-italia.net/96156/juventus-‘very-close-rincon’

Dec 27, 2016

Juventus are ‘very close’ to signing Genoa’s Tomas Rincon, according to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

The defensive midfidler has been with the Rossoblu since 2014 but now appears set for a move to Turin.

The news follows ‘positive talks’ between the two clubs over a deal for the Venezuelan, who will turn 29 on 13 January.

It is thought that Rincon will head to Juventus Stadium on an initial six-month loan, rumoured to be worth €2m, with Juve reserving the option to sign him permanently in the summer for a further €7m.

Following their Supercoppa Italiana defeat to Milan, Juve are looking to bolster their squad as they aim to defend their Serie A and Coppa Italia titles, as well as mount a credible Champions League challenge.

James Rodriguez, Steven N’Zonzi, Axel Witsel, Corentin Tolisso and Tiemoue Bakayoko are other names to have been touted as possible arrivals at Juventus Stadium.

Report: Juventus ‘about to close’ deal

for Genoa midfielder Tomas Rincon

Much of Juventus’ central midfield rumor mill has been filled with talk of Axel Witsel — and rightfully so. He’s been the No. 1 midfield target for months now and the guy that pretty much everybody expected to sign with Juventus until the would-be deal for the big Belgian fell apart on the final day of the summer transfer window.

There’s a new name being thrown into the mix.

And apparently he’s a lot closer to joining that everybody’s favorite Belgian with a giant afro.

According to Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus are quite close to closing a deal for 28-year-old Genoa midfielder Tomas Rincon. The details of the deal, which would see the total value of the transaction be around €10 million, will include an initial €2 million loan fee with an obligation to buy set between €7-8 million (assumingely over the summer) to make Rincon’s move to Turin a permanent one.

More details of the deal, courtesy of Di Marzio himself:

The competition has been vastly surpassed, namely Roma, the objective for Juve now is to bring the player to Turin before new years eve. Rincon is not the only midfield reinforcement to expect in January however as the arrival of the player would not exclude Axel Witsel, for whom Juventus continue to wait for positive signals from Zenit.

Done before New Year’s Eve, huh? I guess Beppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici have some big plans in store for a night out in Turin with their respective families. Or something like that. Let’s just go with it.

What this has to do with Juve’s pursuit of Witsel may or may not be connected. We don’t know because Beppe hasn’t told us anything on the topic of a Rincon acquisition. And what this means for some other Juventus midfielders — like, I dunno, Hernanes, who was been linked with Genoa a lot during the time of the summer transfer window — may also depend on the club’s acquisition of both Rincon and Witsel.

But getting close to adding Rincon, somebody who was also a target of Roma amongst others, certainly would give Juventus a little more grit in the midfield. He would give Juventus a little more depth in the midfield, that’s for sure, and allow Max Allegri to go with a little more steel off the bench or if he chooses to rotate the squad every now and then.

Juventus close to signing Tomas Rincon

http://www.juvefc.com/juventus-close-signing-tomas-rincon/

Dec 28, 2016

Juventus are on the verge of completing a deal for Genoa midfielder Tomas Rincon.

Multiple sources in Italy report that a deal has been agreed between the two clubs which will see the Venezuelan defensive midfielder join the Bianconeri.

La Stampa, Gazzetta Dello Sport and Sky Sport Italia suggest that Rincon will initially join Juve on a 6-month loan worth €2m, with the Bianconeri retaining an option to sign the player permanently for a further €7m.

Juve are believed to be in the hunt for 2 midfielders and it’s suggested by some sources that a deal for Rincon would not exclude the arrival of Axel Witsel.

La Stampa report that Juventus are standing firm with their take-it-or-leave-it offer of €6m to sign the Belgian midfielder in January. If a deal fails to materialise, Juve will sign the player for free next summer.

Rincon to Juve this weekend?

http://www.football-italia.net/96161/rincon-juve-weekend

Dec 28, 2016

Tomas Rincon will reportedly begin training with Juventus on Sunday as the Bianconeri hope to also bring in long-term target Axel Witsel.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, everything is in place for Rincon to become a Juve player once the transfer window reopens for January on New Years’ Day.

Described as “a general in a team of emperors, muscle, jackhammer and with no fear”, the Venezuela midfielder is expected to be one of two players to belatedly replace Paul Pogba.

That is because, according to the newspaper, Massimiliano Allegri “wants two midfielders, the second almost certainly Witsel”.

Kwadwo Asamoah and Mario Lemina will soon leave for the Africa Cup of Nations, while Hernanes could be Genoa-bound.

Despite the Belgian’s desire to join the Old Lady, however, the stumbling block remains a fee being agreed between the latter and Zenit St Petersburg.

Rincon to undergo Juventus medical as Witsel pursuit continues

The Serie A champions are looking to take the Venezuela international

from rivals Genoa, but remain keen on Zenit St Petersburg's Belgian star.

Dec 28, 2016

Juventus are closing in on a loan agreement for Genoa's Tomas Rincon, Goal can confirm, with the midfielder set to undergo a medical with the Italian champions on Thursday.

A short-term deal that was first mooted by Sky Sport Italia is being put in place that will include an obligation to push through a permanent €8 million transfer at the end of the season.

Juve have been scouring the market for reinforcements in the middle of the park, with Rincon identified as a top target.

He boasts useful Serie A experience from two-and-a-half years spent with Genoa and is also a senior Venezuela international with 77 caps to his name.

And while he appears set to join the star-studded ranks in Turin, he is not the only addition Juve are looking to make.

The reigning Italian champions have been pursuing Zenit St Petersburg’s Axel Witsel for some time, with the Belgium international another expected to be on the move over the coming weeks.

His contract is running down in Russia and no extension will be signed.

Witsel has plenty of suitors across Europe – including Chelsea and Everton – but Juve have led the hunt for his services and remain keen despite preparing to complete the capture of Rincon.

Genoa's Tomas Rincon 'to undergo Juventus medical'

news/rincon-to-undergo-juventus-medical_288255.html

Dec 28, 2016

Genoa midfielder Tomas Rincon will reportedly undergo a medical with Juventus on Thursday ahead of joining the Italian champions on an initial six-month loan deal.

The 28-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Crystal Palace in the summer and it had been thought that the Premier League club would resume their interest in the January transfer window.

However, according to Goal.com, the former Hamburger SV midfielder will undergo a medical at Juve this week before joining the Serie A giants when the winter transfer window opens for business.

It is understood that the Turin outfit will have the chance to make the move for the 77-time Venezuela international permanent at the end of the season.

Dec 29, 2016

When news broke in Italy that Tomas Rincon was on the verge of signing with Juventus, the premise was that the Serie A champions wanted to get the deal done before the calendar flipped from 2016 to 2017.

Looks like we’re running right on schedule.

The reported move for the 28-year-old Venezuelan midfielder is now more than just paper talk. As noon approached in Italy on Thursday, Rincon rolled into Juventus’ new medical facilities and began his exams before finalizing his move to the current Serie A leaders. In case you don’t believe, here is a photo of Rincon approving of said medical exams, courtesy of Juventus’ official Twitter account.

(Side note: That is a very nice Christmas tree. It’s much, much better than mine. And actually decorated. And actually not sitting in a small storage closet next to my apartment.)

The move for Rincon has obviously materialized rather quickly. Just a few short days ago we were sitting here and hearing that a deal was seemingly closed for Rincon, who has started 16 of Genoa’s 18 games this season. We heard about the reported details of the deal to bring Rincon to Turin — initial €2 million loan deal with a obligatory fee of around €7-8 million in the summer to make his move a permanent one.

Now, with the timetable being set to complete the deal before New Year’s Eve, Rincon is just a couple of short steps away from becoming a Juventus player. That might not be something you thought would be happening at the beginning of the week, but as the weekend gets closer and closer in Italy, it certainly seems to be the truth.

Rincon completes Juventus medical

http://www.football-italia.net/96200/rincon-completes-juventus-medical

Dec 29, 2016

Tomas Rincón has completed his Juventus medical, but his signing is not expected to be announced today.

The Venezuela international is set to join on a €2m loan from Genoa, with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

This morning the midfielder underwent a medical at the Bianconeri’s J-Medical centre, and he has since been pictured leaving the facility.

"Tomas Eduardo Rincón took a significant step towards becoming a Juventus player on Thursday, the Venezuelan successfully completing a medical ahead of his proposed transfer from Genoa," a statement on the club's offical website confirmed.

"Checking in at the club's J|Medical facility shortly after 09.00 CET, the 29 year old was rigorously put through his paces before being officially signed off in the middle of the afternoon."

However, TuttoJuve is reporting that the transfer will not be officially announced today, but will be made official in the coming days.

The Old Lady cannot officially deposit Rincón’s contract with the Lega Serie A until the transfer window opens on January 1, so it’s likely that the club will confirm his signing then.

Juventus Hoping Tomas Rincon Can Be the New Edgar Davids

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2684501-juventus

-hoping-tomas-rincon-can-be-the-new-edgar-davids

Jan 1, 2017

It’s no secret that much of Juventus’ struggles this term have been due to a lack of chemistry in midfield.

Yes, the Bianconeri—despite playing one game fewer than their closest rivals, Roma—sit four points clear at the top of Serie A and topped their Champions League group, but it has not been comfortable.

More than just injuries or the matches they have lost to AC Milan, Genoa and Inter Milan, coach Massimiliano Allegri has struggled to field a central unit that has worked cohesively. Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic have all done well individually at different times, but each has looked better in a four-man midfield than as part of a trio.

However, that is where the problem has been most evident. Kwadwo Asamoah is sadly a shell of the dynamic player he used to be, Hernanes has only impressed against weak opponents while Stefano Sturaro and Mario Lemina still have much to learn.

Allegri on Sturaro "A player who is improving & has great strength. Like Vidal? Some similar features, but he can still improve a lot."

Juventus spent much of the summer seeking a player to fill that void, with the club’s management clearly aware that a fourth top-class midfielder was essential if the team is to realise its potential.

According to Sky Italia (h/t Football Italia), Blaise Matuidi and Axel Witsel were among those the Turin club attempted to sign. They failed in both cases and will be looking for options in the January transfer window.

As a result of those unsuccessful attempts, and with Juve still needing reinforcements, the club revealed on Thursday that Genoa’s Tomas Rincon had completed a medical with a view to a transfer.

Tomas #Rincon has arrived in Turin! Medical now underway for the Venezuelan!

What will he add to the Juventus midfield should the deal go through? The 28-year-old is hardly a prominent name like the club’s previous targets, but that might be a help rather than a hindrance.

There are enough egos and high-profile stars in Allegri’s squad already, and integrating another, particularly in January, would be a tough task. Instead, the Bianconeri will acquire a hardworking player who already possesses Serie A experience and who will need no time to adjust to the culture.

However, supporters of the Italian champions will care little for whether Rincon can order an espresso at his local cafe or know where Crotone is. They simply want to know what he will add to the team and how much he can help correct their issues.

The video above offers a glimpse into the player Juventus want and need: a tough-tackling, tenacious fighter who will push his more technically gifted team-mates to produce their best more often than they have been this season.

Primarily a defensive-minded, box-to-box midfielder, he can fill in at right-back should the need arise. His career path has been slow and steady, playing for three clubs in his native Venezuela before moving to Europe with Hamburg.

Rincon spent five-and-a-half seasons at the Volksparkstadion after arriving in January 2009 and made a lasting impression, as German football expert Daniel Busch explained to Bleacher Report: "He immediately tried to settle in, learn German and got involved with Hamburg and his team-mates. He always trained hard, but HSV never found consistency during his time here, making it difficult for the team to develop something on the pitch.

"Rincon quickly became a fan favourite because of his dedication and hard work on and off the pitch. He was one of the most professional players to have worn the Hamburg shirt in recent years. [He] always gave it [his] all and showed huge passion and identification for the city of Hamburg and HSV."

140 & 10- Tomas Rincon won the most tackles (140) and made the most assists (10) among the Genoa's players in Serie A since 2014/15. General

He moved to Genoa in 2014 and has continued to grow as a player over the last two years. Rincon is a true battler who fights for every ball, meaning it is no surprise that his tally of 40 fouls this term is more than any other player in Serie A, according to WhoScored.com.

Yet he remains an excellent defensive player, capable of making timely interventions to win back possession, bringing a mean-spirited attitude that the Juve midfield perhaps lacks.

Compiled using data from WhoScored.com, the table below shows how Rincon compares to the other midfielders in Allegri’s squad, with none of them making more tackles, headers or clearances per game.

55affa05c0bcc1e3bfed5895ab272439_origina

Serie A 2016/17 (Adam Digby via WhoScored)

Busch also expressed the view that Rincon "struggled with the ball, especially under pressure." But that is clearly something he has worked on since leaving the Bundesliga for Italy.

Perhaps the most notable difference is in his passing. According to WhoScored.com, Rincon attempted just 26.3 passes per game during his final season at Hamburg and connected with 71.3 per cent of them. But this term, he has made 50.8 passes per game and found a team-mate at an 83.6 per cent clip.

That marked improvement continues in his dribbling, managing just 1.3 take-ons per game in 2013/14 but completing 2.4 last term. According to Squawka, he has maintained a similar rate this season, completing 18 of the 26 take-ons he has attempted while also creating 19 clear scoring opportunities.

Tomás Rincón: Of players to attempt 75+ dribbles in Serie A since the start of last season, @TomasRincon5 has the best success (74.4%)

There is little doubt that, on the pitch, Juve will sign a different player to the one who left Germany, but Busch is convinced that he has other qualities that can make a difference: "Juve will get a hardworking, down-to-earth player who is a great and dedicated professional and identifies with the club 100 per cent. He's a great team player to have for others to serve as an example, and he's never forgot where he comes from and doesn't take anything for granted.

"He doesn't have the quality to start 40-plus games for Juve, but he could make a significant impact on and off the pitch nonetheless because of his character and strength. As a parallel to his arrival at HSV, he knows how to make a huge step in his career in the middle of a season."

That last part is of huge importance to Juventus, a team clearly in need of a spiritual and emotional lift. A comparison has been made to the arrival of Edgar Davids, which appears to be extremely hyperbolic and portrays Rincon as a much better player than he is.

Tuttosport seeing the new Davids in #Rincon. Maybe a small exaggeration... #Juventus

However, Davids joined Juventus in December 1997, bringing tenacity and venom to a midfield sorely lacking both. That team, much like the current one, was struggling for an identity after selling many of its veteran core and found a solution in a player who failed to impress at AC Milan.

Rincon's nickname, the General, hints at a player who, while lacking the overall quality of the former Ajax star, will bring many of the same attributes as Marcello Lippi’s Pitbull, Davids.

It remains to be seen whether he can emulate Davids' sizeable impact, but Juventus will hope he is the right man to ease their midfield worries.

OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL: Juventus sign Genoa

midfielder Tomas Rincon for €8 million

tomas-rincon-juventus-genoa-2017-serie-a-transfers-team-news

If we’ve learned anything from Beppe Marotta’s transfer dealings over the years, there seems to be two very different speeds in which a deal materializes. There is either the transfer that only seems to take a couple of days to go from rumors of there being interest to a player showing up for his medical. Then there’s the drawn-out transfer saga that goes on for weeks, if not months, before something happens — good or bad.

Considering this one to be filed under Option A.

You might not have thought Genoa midfielder Tomas Rincon would become a Juventus player in the hours following the ripping into of your Christmas presents, but he is now. Juventus and Genoa have finalized a deal that sees the 28-year-old Rincon arrive on an €8 million deal and put pen to paper on a contract until the end of the 2019-20 season. Acquiring Rincon, Juventus’ first of official signing of the winter transfer window even before January arrives, was first reported as being virtually a done deal earlier this week.

The complete details of the deal, courtesy of Juventus’ official website:

Juventus Football Club can today confirm that Tomas Rincon has completed a permanent switch from Genoa for a fee of 8 million euros - a figure which could rise by 1 million euros on reaching certain conditions within the contract.

Rincon, who becomes the first ever Venezuelan to represent the Bianconeri, has signed a deal with Juventus lasting until 30 June 2020.

Rincon had previously been with Genoa since 2014 after playing five seasons in the Bundesliga with Hamburg. Known as a hard-nosed and gritty kind of midfielder, he certainly won’t wow you with the sheer numbers he records. He’s not a big-time threat to score goals, having only found the back of the net three times in his time with Genoa. So if you’re looking for a creative force added to Juve’s midfield, you’ve got another thing coming to you.

What he will add is a definitive amount of toughness — which given his nickname, ‘El General,’ shouldn’t be all that much of a surprise, I guess. That’s not exactly an ever-present characteristic throughout Juve’s current midfield crop. In that case, Rincon will be adding that Juventus probably needs a little more of going forward this season.

Worst comes to worst, maybe we’ll see Rincon challenging Max Allegri on the basketball court. Max does like a challenge, as we all know.

Not a bad jump shot, if I do say so myself. I’ll give him a pretty good chance.

Juventus have officially completed the signing of Tomas Rincon from Serie A rivals Genoa on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Venezuela international Rincon, who has been training with the Bianconeri in recent days after passing a medical, arrives in Turin for an initial €8 million, which Juve said could grow to €9m "on achieving given conditions in the course of the duration of the contract."

The 28-year-old could make his debut against Crotone on Sunday.

Rincon said it was a "dream come true" joining the Italian champions. "I am very proud and it's an honour to have joined this great club," Rincon told the club's official website. "I'm delighted and being here now is a dream come true.

"Now I' m looking to get down to work and win as much as possible with this club. Firstly, I want to make myself available for the team and the club and then obviously I want to win the league, the cup and the Champions League.

"I want to say hi to all the Juventus fans, see you at the stadium soon -- Forza Juve!"

The former Hamburg midfielder has missed just two games for Il Grifone this season, taking his total to 82 appearances for the Ligurian club. He will add further depth to the Juve midfield as they plan an assault on Serie A, the Champions League and the Coppa Italia in the second half of the season.

He becomes Juve's first signing this winter after they missed out on signing Axel Witsel from Zenit St Petersburg.

Rincon: ‘Juventus a dream’

http://www.football-italia.net/96318/rincon-‘juventus-dream’

Jan 3, 2017

Tomas Rincón describes signing for Juventus as “a dream”, and wants to win the treble this season.

It was officially confirmed this morning that the Venezuelan midfielder has signed for the Old Lady, moving from Genoa for €8m plus €1m in bonuses.

“I’m very proud, and it’s an honour for me to be at this club,” Rincón told the Bianconeri’s official website.

“I’m happy, it’s a dream to be here. Now we’ll start working to win a lot with this shirt. First I want to make myself available to my teammates, the staff, the club and then win the Scudetto, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League.

“I want to say hi to all the Bianconeri fans and I’ll see you at the stadium soon.”

Rincon: ‘Honour to be at Juventus’

Tomas Rincón promises “a lot of hard work” because “it’s an honour” to be at Juventus.

The midfielder officially completed his move from Genoa this morning, joining for €8m plus another €1m in bonuses on a four-year contract.

“Let me start by saying that these days have been like a dream come true,” Rincón said in his presentation Press conference.

“Now I’m here and I’ll be available to the club, the coaching staff and my teammates. Of course, I thank the club for the trust they’ve placed in me.

“At the moment I’m just getting to know everything, I’m adapting quickly because we play in a few days, I’ll always give my best.

“The one thing I can guarantee you is a lot of hard work, because it’s an honour for me to be here and I’ll make myself available for whatever the team needs.

“I’ll always work hard and try to always win.

“It was very quick, as soon as I heard the name ‘Juventus’ I had no doubts, because you always play to win here, and of course I like working every day to win.

“So I’m here, I want to train, play well and do my best.”

January signings can often find it difficult to adapt, but Rincón is confident he’ll fit in well.

“My first impression is that this club is a family, full of champions. For me it’s an honour to be a teammate of our captain [Gianluigi Buffon], who in my opinion is the best goalkeeper in the world.

“I’ve been well-received, everyone has made themselves available and there are also a lot of South Americans here, so it won’t be difficult to adapt.

“I know Stefano [Sturaro] obviously, since like me he came from Genoa and [Rolando] Mandragora.

“Then there are all the South Americans who I’ve come across while playing for my national team [Venezuela].”

Rincon: ‘Juventus Italy's biggest club’

http://www.football-italia.net/96644/rincon-‘juventus-italys-biggest-club’

Jan 9, 2017

Tomas Rincón had “no doubt” about joining Juventus as he believes “they’re the biggest Italian team”.

The midfielder joined the Bianconeri from Genoa this January, despite reported interest from Inter, Milan and Roma.

“As soon as I head the name Juventus, I had no doubt,” Rincón told Prensa de Barinas.

“They’re the biggest Italian team and I want to win a lot of trophies here. Juve want to compete for every trophy, the Scudetto and the cups.

“This is a team full of champions who want to keep growing, I want to learn from them. Our [Venezuelan] football is growing, and transfers like this are important.

“They should serve as an example to people that dreams can come true with hard work and sacrifice.”

Tomas Rincón reflects on his move to Juventus from Genoa, and reveals he could have joined Milan instead.

The midfielder made the move to Turin in January, but could easily have been playing for the Rossoneri.

“There’s a feeling of bewilderment which could last a few seconds,” Rincón explained when asked by Mopo about taking a phone call from the Bianconeri.

“Initally you don’t quite believe it, but then you realise you have to go, there’s no other option. We did it all in two days.

“There was no reason to hesitate or have any doubts. I had a good two years in Genoa and there were other teams interested, like Milan, but Juventus was a dream for me.

“It’s an incredible feeling, you open the door and you’re greeted by [Gianluigi] Buffon and then Dani Alves immediately after.

“It’s something very special to be here. Gigi is one of the best goalkeepers of all time, Sami Khedira is a world champion.

“Dani Alves, [Gonzalo] Higuain… they’re all great players who always want to win and have that huge winning mentality.

“When I came here, I showed up and they said ‘Ciao Tomas, welcome, now we have to win!’.

“That’s Juventus, it’s what has made this club special for a long time and what always keeps them winning.”

Tomas Rincon has no regrets about joining Juventus despite a lack of game-time, according to his agent.

The 29-year-old joined the Old Lady from Genoa in the January transfer window but has played just 258 minutes across 10 appearances for Max Allegri's team.

He has made just one start in Serie A since leaving the Griffone, but Norman Capuozzo believes the Venezuelan's move will prove to be an important step in his career.

"I would say his experience at Juventus has been very positive," the agent told TuttoJuve. "It's been an important step in his career and from my point of view Tomas has integrated into the team well.

"He gets on well with all the group. Genoa was a great experience for him, which was very important for his personal and professional growth.

"He has no remorse over leaving. Instead, he has an enormous appreciation for the club and the Coaches who taught him so much.

"Last summer, there were several Italian and English teams interested in my client, but then over Christmas Juventus contacted us and they were the first team to take the initiative."

Atalanta make Rincon offer?

http://www.football-italia.net/105311/atalanta-make-rincon-offer

Jul 6, 2017

Atalanta have reportedly made an offer to sign Juventus midfielder Tomas Rincon.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio’s website, Atalanta see Rincon as a “welcome” addition, especially as they need squad depth for the Europa League next season.

The Venezuelan was also coached by Gian Piero Gasperini at Genoa, the trainer having brought him to the Grifone in 2014.

Rincon joined Juve back in January for 8m and made 19 appearances for the Bianconeri, although they equated to little over six starts’ worth of action.

Rincon move to Torino is imminent

Offloading season is here.

report-rincon-juventus-torino-2017-serie-a-transfers

It appears as though it’s the time of the transfer window where the offloading happens. Players were given their chance to earn their spot during preseason, and now the final cuts to the team (in a way) will be made. Yesterday saw Mario Lemina join Southampton for a relatively large sum, marking the first sale of a rotation player, aside from Neto.

With two wingers brought in, and an adjustment to a midfield of two looking likely, it only makes sense that Juventus would be looking to cut down the amount of central midfielders available to them. Additionally, with Rodrigo Bentancur impressing in preseason, it seems like he may have actually won the job of staying with the team as a rotation piece, though that remains to be seen.

Rincon has seemingly lost his spot, and Gianluca Di Mario is reporting that a deal with the cross-town rivals, Torino, is in the works. From his website:

From one part of the city to another, only changing jersey without moving too far. Rincon to Torino is missing very little. It is at the details between the Granata and Juventus. The only part that is missing is the "yes" from the player and Torino President Cairo is counting on getting it in the next few hours. Rincon could be ready to start another chapter in his career.

Obviously the translator isn’t perfect, but you get the idea. According to GDM (who isn’t wrong about much this time of year), Rincon will be moving on from Juventus very soon, after a very short stay here.

OFFICIALLY OFFICIAL: Torino sign Juventus midfielder

Tomas Rincon on a loan with option to buy

Another one bites the dust

Aug 11, 2017

He was here for a good time, not a long time. In his short stay with Juventus, Tomas Rincon won his first two major trophies of his career. At the age of 29, I’m sure he’s very happy about that, considering repeating that success elsewhere is not exactly a guarantee. The Serie A and Coppa Italia winner will be moving all the way to Turin, to join up with cross-town rivals, Torino.

More details, courtesy of Juventus’ official website:

Turin, August 11, 2017 - Juventus Football Club SpA announces that it has reached an agreement with Torino Football Club SpA for the temporary cessation, until 30 June 2018, of the right to sporting activities of footballer Rincon Hernandez Tomas Eduardo A fee of € 3 million.

The contract also provides for the obligation of Torino Football Club SpA to transform the temporary transfer definitively if the footballer disputes a certain number of official matches by 30 June 2018. The consideration for the final assignment has been set at 6 million.

Rincon was a low-cost, low-risk move that didn’t really pan out, and it wasn’t really all his fault. January signings are rarely long-term moves, and this one was no different. When he was initially brought in during the January transfer window, it seemed as though he would be a much welcomed reinforcement to bolster our 3-man midfield depth, and could add some grit and defensive prowess to the midfielder, something that was previously lacking. Then the formation changed, and Rincon didn’t exactly set the world on fire in his limited appearances to warrant a high enough place in the depth chart to remain relevant.

All in all, he only played 579 minutes for the club, although spread out into 19 different appearances. Around half of these minutes came in the Coppa Italia, so we can say he was a decent part in bringing home that trophy in the later stages. A potential 9 million is around what he would be expected to haul in, another decent offload job by Beppe.

At Torino, it’s likely that Rincon will be tasked with replacing Marco Benassi, who moved to Fiorentina. At a quick glance, he’ll likely be the midfielder playing behind Daniele Baselli and Afriyie Acquah. Torino finished 9th in Serie A last year. Best of luck in the foreign land of Turin, Rincon, see you at the derby.
