Juve get €58m from Champions League

https://www.football-italia.net/126602/juve-get-€58m-champions-league

Aug 22, 2018

Juventus will earn at least €58.4m from the Champions League this season, with Napoli, Inter and Roma getting around €38m.

The total funds available for group stage competitors is €1.95bn, increased from the €1.4bn of the last three years.

It’ll be divided up with 25 per cent decided by the starting level, 30 per cent on performance-based results, 30 per cent on so-called historic ranking over the last 10 years and 15 per cent on the market pool.

Teams will receive €2.7m per victory and €900,000 for a draw.

Qualifying for the Round of 16 brings another €9.5m, €10.5m for a quarter-final spot, €12m for the semi-final and €15m to reach the Final.

Winning the trophy brings an extra €4m.

Considering the Italian historic ranking, Calcio e Finanza calculated the worst possible scenario for the four Italian clubs.

Juventus are sure of their place in the top six, while Inter, Napoli and Roma depend on who gets through the play-offs.

In a worst case scenario, Juventus would pocket €58.4m by going out in the group stage, with Napoli earning €39.5m and Inter €38.9m.

Despite reaching the Champions League semi-final last season, Roma are only guaranteed €38.9m.

None of that takes into consideration UEFA bonuses for results during the tournament or the revenue from at least three home matches.

Wary of Lazio, Alex Sandro…

Max Allegri hailed Cristiano Ronaldo for ‘raising the bar’ at Juventus ahead of facing Lazio but warned he was not afraid of benching the No 7.

“Yes. There will only be a few changes before the international break,” replied the Coach to a question about whether Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic could play with the Portuguese.

“There will also be a very hot atmosphere tomorrow so everyone will be needed, even those who enter during the game.

“For example, the wing is more covered with Douglas Costa, but we also know what can happen with CR7 there.

“I have to make a decision on Matuidi today. He’s in good shape and he always runs. He came in late last season but immediately made us understand what he could give us.

“Changes will depend on the moment, our state and our opponents. From September 16 we’ll be playing every three days, so the changes will be natural.

“However, decisions must be made and only winning counts. if you win, every decision you make is a good one but they’re never fully accepted.

“I’ll decide on Dybala today. The game against Chievo had been one-way traffic, but then

there was Cancelo’s mistake, which was an individual error.

“Just beating Chievo was enough. If we went 3-0 up after half an hour, it wouldn’t have worked out well.

“Ronaldo always puts himself in contention. He’s a true champion, who has built himself with work and sacrifice. He’s a good example and he raises the bar here.

“Ronaldo will never be on the bench, right? No, it can happen.”

Max Allegri has urged Juventus to remember how Lazio ended their run of 41 home wins and praised Alex Sandro, who is ‘like a new player’.

Lazio came away with a 2-1 victory from Juventus Stadium last season, while Alex Sandro’s performances for the Bianconeri in 2017-18 were regularly criticised.

“Lazio are a well-coached team, who beat us last season after 41 consecutive victories at home, so we’re wary of them,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“Dybala and Matuidi? I must decide whether to play them. CR7 is good both in the middle and out wide. Alex Sandro? He’s like a new player but he must keep pushing himself.

“I expect great enthusiasm tomorrow. Bonucci must also be evaluated like everyone else on the field.

“He has great enthusiasm and always has passion. Football is simple, you need to get to know each other more and more.

“There will be improvements. Until now, Ronaldo has had six efforts on goal, so he must be ready to respond.

“Lazio are strong and well-drilled. They play on the break and have Milinkovic, who gives them physicality and class.”

Juve transformed for Lazio

https://www.football-italia.net/127098/juve-transformed-lazio

Aug 25, 2018

Juventus could drop Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa and Cuadrado against Lazio, while Lucas Leiva and Senad Lulic return for the visitors.

It kicks off at 18.00 CET - 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

The Bianconeri started their campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 victory away to Chievo and Coach Max Allegri is considering numerous changes.

According to the latest reports from Turin, Cristiano Ronaldo is the only player certain to retain his spot in attack, as the 4-2-3-1 formation is scrapped in favour of a 4-3-3.

This means the likes of Joao Cancelo, Cuadrado, Dybala and Douglas Costa could be left out of the starting XI to make way for Andrea Barzagli, Blaise Matuidi and Mario Mandzukic.

Another option would be to see Douglas Costa re-routed to the right side of a trident attack with Mandzukic as centre-forward and Ronaldo on the left.

Lazio opened the season with a 2-1 defeat to Napoli, having initially taken the lead through Ciro Immobile’s spectacular solo effort.

Simone Inzaghi lost Luiz Felipe to injury in that match, but can now welcome back Lucas Leiva and Senad Lulic from suspension.

Wallace is the favourite to step in to defence, while Martin Caceres and Milan Badelj drop to the bench.

Juventus (probable): Szczesny; Cancelo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Bernardeschi, Mandzukic, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lazio (probable): Strakosha; Wallace, Acerbi, Radu; Marusic, Parolo, Leiva, Milinkovic-Savic, Lulic; Luis Alberto; Immobile

Miralem Pjanic’s half-volley has given Juventus the lead over Lazio at the break, but the Aquile have had their chances too.

The Bianconeri scraped a 3-2 victory away to Chievo last week and revamped already for their first home game of the season, benching Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa for Mario Mandzukic and Federico Bernardeschi, moving to 4-3-3 with Cristiano Ronaldo wide on the left. The visitors welcomed back Lucas Leiva and Senad Lulic from suspension after they missed the 2-1 defeat to Napoli. Simone Inzaghi’s side won here last season, ending a two-year unbeaten home Serie A run for Juve, and beat them to the Italian Super Cup too.

The first shot on target after 11 minutes was for Lazio, as Miralem Pjanic gave the ball away and Wojciech Szczesny got down to palm it round the base of the near post. The resulting Luis Alberto corner flashed just past the head of Wallace at the far stick.

Juve’s first attempt came closer to 19 minutes, as Blaise Matuidi knocked it down for Cristiano Ronaldo, it went on to Sami Khedira to smash against the upright from close range. The move continued and Thomas Strakosha’s gloves were stung by Bernardeschi at a tight angle.

The deadlock was broken when Mandzukic knocked down a cross for Miralem Pjanic’s ferocious half-volley from 20 metres, slotting into the bottom corner just past Strakosha’s fingertips.

Szczesny had to come sprinting out to clear from Marco Parolo one-on-one, then Sergej Milinkovic-Savic drilled the follow-up wide. With the last kick of the half, Parolo’s header flew over from close range to conclude a period of Lazio pressure.

Miralem Pjanic’s half-volley and a Mario Mandzukic tap-in on accidental Cristiano Ronaldo assist gave Juventus the victory over Lazio.

Szczesny had to come sprinting out to clear from Marco Parolo one-on-one, then Sergej Milinkovic-Savic drilled the follow-up wide. With the last kick of the half, Parolo’s header flew over from close range to conclude a period of Lazio pressure.

Ronaldo took on Francesco Acerbi with a series of step-overs to roll across, but Mandzukic couldn’t make decent contact from six yards.

Lazio had more and more possession, Luis Alberto curling just wide from the edge of the box. Yet Cristiano Ronaldo nearly got the first Serie A goal of his career when turning Wallace for a viciously dipping shot from the edge of the box, but Strakosha flew to fingertip it out from under the bar.

Ronaldo really should’ve scored on 75 minutes when Joao Cancelo rolled across from the right, but he scuffed it horribly in front of an open goal from four yards, kicking it on to his other leg, and Mandzukic cleaned up to double their lead. CR7 will be registered with an assist, even if it was an unintentional one.

Blaise Matuidi and Rodrigo Bentancur had chances late on, but the result remained 2-0.

Miralem Pjanic dedicated his goal in the 2-0 victory over Lazio to Juventus after extending his contract. “I’m very happy to remain.”

The Bosnian hit a half-volley in the first half, while Mario Mandzukic tapped in the second in Turin this evening.

“Our fitness levels aren’t the best right now, but we had a good performance at times. It’s not the sharpest Juve yet, but it’s important to keep winning, especially in a tough fixture like this.

“We’re working to get into shape and there’s no better way than to have six points in the bank,” Pjanic told Sky Sport Italia.

He penned a new contract with the Bianconeri to June 2023 this week.

“I am very happy to remain at this wonderful club, so I dedicate the goal to the fans, my teammates and the club. I have improved so much in recent years and it is thanks to my experience here.

“I thank everyone for their support and help.”

Pjanic asked to be taken off during the second half, as he felt a twinge.

“I had a slight muscular problem, but nothing serious. I’ll just take a day to rest and evaluate next week, as we need to make it three with a victory against Parma before the break for international duty.”

Allegri: 'I can only start 11'

Aug 25, 2018

Max Allegri explained some of his changes as Juventus beat Lazio 2-0. “I have to choose a starting XI with technique, balance and physicality.”

Miralem Pjanic and Mario Mandzukic got the goals, but the Coach surprised by dropping Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa and Juan Cuadrado.

“It was a different game to Chievo, but above all at the start we were a little hasty. The danger today was to get swept up in the enthusiasm of the stadium for Cristiano Ronaldo’s first at the Stadium and we should’ve had more patience,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“Without Dybala, it becomes more difficult to pass between the lines, but after a while we defended well and did far better in the second half.

“I’m happy with the performance, it was our first head-to-head with one of the other big clubs and it went well.

“At times we fall asleep, at others we get frenetic, whereas we need more balance throughout. The spaces did open up after a while and we should’ve accelerated when the opponents were more fatigued.

“Once again, the substitutions were very important with Douglas Costa, Emre Can and Rodrigo Bentancur making an impact off the bench.

“We have to improve our tempo, our control and the way we read the game, but the centre-backs did a good job against Lazio’s dangerous counter-attacks.

“It’s one game per week in the first three rounds, but from September 15 onwards there will be midweek Champions League games too and naturally we’ll need everyone. The important thing is that those who come off the bench contribute in the right way.

“I have a very strong squad and have to evaluate everyone. We needed these characteristics in midfield today, but I could take a different approach to Parma.

“Dybala connects the lines, Bernardeschi can do that too, but those who were at the World Cup arrived late to pre-season training and not everyone finds their fitness levels at the same time. Mandzukic and Matuidi have a different engine to others.

“The important thing now is that I choose a starting XI with technique, balance and physicality. That doesn’t mean those on the bench are useless, but I can’t play more than 11 at a time.”

Cristiano Ronaldo again failed to find the back of the net, but unintentionally assisted Mandzukic.

“Italian football is completely different to in Spain, Ronaldo understands that, and he is settling in very well. He’s a very humble guy and I’m very pleased with the impact he’s made so far.”

Juventus to build second stadium?

https://www.football-italia.net/127198/juventus-build-second-stadium

Aug 27, 2018

Juventus are reportedly keen to build a second stadium with 5-6,000 seats, to host the B team and the women’s team.

The Bianconeri are one of the few clubs in Italy to own their own stadium, with the state-of-the-art Juventus Stadium - now Allianz Stadium - opening its doors in 2011.

The land around the stadium has been redeveloped since, with a museum, a medical facility and the new Continassa headquarters all built around the stadium.

Now Tuttosport is reporting that Juve are keen to continue developing, with plans to build a new 5-6,000-seater stadium adjacent to the Allianz Stadium.

The land that has been identified is currently home to the Palatorino, a former indoor sports arena which has fallen into disrepair since being closed in 2011.

The area is adjacent to the Continassa development, but is currently owned by the local council, with whom an agreement would have to be struck.

Barcelona and Manchester City have already completed similar projects, and the idea is to have the B team and the women’s team play matches at the smaller stadium.

The B squad are currently based at Alessandria’s stadium, while the women play in Novara.

Juventus' Champions League opponents

https://www.football-italia.net/127321/juventus-champions-league-opponents

Aug 30, 2018

Juventus will face Manchester United for the first time in 15 years, with Valencia and Young Boys also in Group H.

The Bianconeri had some legendary encounters with Sir Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils in the 1990s, and will take on Jose Mourinho’s outfit this season.

Here’s the lowdown on the Old Lady’s opponents.

Manchester United

Country: England

Best Champions League/European Cup result: Winners [1968, 1999, 2008]

What you need to know: United finished second in the Premier League last season, amassing 81 points but still finishing 19 behind city rivals Manchester City.

They last faced the Old Lady in the second group stage in 2003, taking a 3-0 win at the Stadio Delle Alpi. However, it was Lippi’s Juve who went on to reach the final that year.

Previous meeting: Juventus 0-3 Manchester United [2002-03 Champions League]

Valencia

Country: Spain

Best Champions League/European Cup result: Final [2000, 2001]

What you need to know: After several seasons of underachievement, Los Che staged something of a revival under Coach Marcelino last season and finished fourth in La Liga.

They boast former Juve goalkeeper Neto, as well as former Inter misfit Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Previous meeting: N/A

Young Boys

Country: Switzerland

‘Scudetto passes through Parma’

https://www.football-italia.net/127360/scudetto-passes-through-parma

Aug 31, 2018

Max Allegri has warned Juventus not to take Parma lightly on Saturday. “Titles pass through games like these.”

“Historically [the Tardini] is a field where Juve have always struggled,” he said at a Press conference.

“it won’t be a walk in the park because titles pass through games like these. The first mini-cycle is coming to an end, but I want to have a peaceful international break and to do that, I want the three points.

“My defence is confirmed, although I have a doubt on the right between Cancelo and Cuadrado.”

“One of Emre Can and Khedira will play in midfield, Pjanic is fit and De Sciglio is available. Up front, it’ll be Cristiano Ronaldo with Mandzukic.

Allegri was then asked about Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to skip the Champions League draw, amidst suggestions it was instigated by Luka Modric winning UEFA’s Men’s Player of the Year award.

“It was a personal decision, which must be respected, but it shows how he always wants to work in order to remain the best player in the world,” added the Coach.

“CR7’s arrival must be an incentive for Dybala, but I see him looking calm. He must find the best condition. As for Sami [Khedira], a player like him can’t be criticised.

“I’ve always been inspired by those who win, such as Capello and Lippi. Ultimately it doesn’t say on their honours lists, ‘they played well but finished second.’

“Once I retire, some of the greats will tell me what it means to play well…”

Parma - Juventus Match preview

https://www.football-italia.net/SerieA/match/preview/125090

Sep 1, 2018

Parma take on Juventus on Saturday as The Old Lady aim to continue their perfect start to the new Serie A season.

Max Allegri’s men had a shaky start in the season opener against an unlucky Chievo side when Federico Bernardeschi’s 93rd minute strike was enough for a 3-2 win. Last weekend they saw off a disappointing Lazio after Miralem Pjanic and Mario Mandzukic struck for a 2-0 victory.

They will this week be aiming to continue their winning streak as Cristiano Ronaldo will be hoping to get off the mark in Serie A - as Juventus’ marquee signing of the summer hasn’t hit the scoreboard yet. Regardless, he has put in two very impressive shifts in his first two games in a Bianconeri shirt, and Saturday is sure to be another.

Meanwhile, Parma are winless in their return to Serie A following their opening round draw with Udinese and last week’s 1-0 defeat against SPAL. It has been a difficult start to the campaign for them, however they will be hoping to snatch a result at home this weekend.

In order to do so, however, they will be set for a massive task in containing Juve’s attack. Experienced defender Bruno Alves will undoubtedly hope to contain the threat of compatriot Ronaldo after the two spent a long portion of their careers together in the Portuguese national team. He’ll be hoping to exploit any weakness of Ronaldo, a task which must be achieved if his side are to take anything out of this match.

In team news, the Crociati will be without a number of players - most notably Amato Ciciretti and Jonathan Biabiany as they recover from their respective injuries. Emanuele Calaio is obviously still suspended, however they are expected to be given a boost in their final third with the addition of Gervinho to their attack, who is expected to start his first game for his new club.

Juventus have a near clean bill of health heading into the game, as Leonardo Spinazzola is their only absentee. Paulo Dybala is expected to slot back into the starting line-up for the Bianconeri and Allegri may try him in the middle of their attacking trident.

Keep an eye on: Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) - Ronaldo has had a very good start to his Juventus career, however is yet to score. He will be aiming to finally have an impact on the scoreboard and he will be hoping to do so at the Tardini on Saturday. Expect another huge game from Ronaldo.

Form Guide: Parma (D L - - - ) Juventus (W W - - - )

Stat fact: This fixture last took place in 2015, where the Crociati surprisingly defeated Juventus 1-0     thanks to Jose Mauri’s strike.

Top tip: Cristiano Ronaldo to score and Juventus to win

Parma (probable): Sepe; Iacopini, Alves, Gagliolo, Gobbi; Grassi, Stulac, Barilla; Di Gaudio, Inglese, Gervinho

Suspended: Calaio

Juventus (probable): Szczesny; Cancelo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Douglas Costa, Dybala, Ronaldo

Suspended: None

Juve drop Dybala again?

https://www.football-italia.net/127415/juve-drop-dybala-again

Sep 1, 2018

Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa could be benched when Juventus visit Parma this evening, with Mario Mandzukic partnering Cristiano Ronaldo.

It kicks off at 20.30 CET - 19.30 UK time (18.30 GMT).

Max Allegri showed already in the 2-0 win over Lazio that he is not afraid to shake things up with his star-studded squad and that means leaving La Joya on the bench.

According to the latest reports, Dybala could again be on the touchline with Douglas Costa, starting Federico Bernardeschi in a trident attack with Mandzukic, putting Ronaldo wide on the left.

Joao Cancelo should get the nod at right-back rather than Juan Cuadrado, with Sami Khedira preferred to Emre Can in midfield.

Parma have many injury absentees, missing the likes of Alberto Grassi, Amato Ciciretti, Jonathan Biabiany and suspended Emanuele Calaiò.

Former Roma winger Gervinho is fit to start after his substitute appearance last week, combining with Roberto Inglese and Antonio Di Gaudio.

Probable line-ups

Parma: Sepe; Iacoponi, Bruno Alves, Gagliolo, Gobbi; Rigoni, Stulac, Barillà; Gervinho, Inglese, Di Gaudio

Juventus: Szczesny; Cancelo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Bernardeschi, Mandzukic, Cristiano Ronaldo

Juventus drop Paulo Dybala again, as Mario Mandzukic and Cristiano Ronaldo lead the attack against Gervinho’s Parma.

It kicks off at the Stadio Tardini at 20.30 CET - 19.30 UK time (18.30 GMT).

Ronaldo is still looking for his first goal in a Bianconeri jersey and takes a wider role with Mandzukic and Federico Bernardeschi, as Dybala and Douglas Costa are dropped to the bench.

Juan Cuadrado gets the nod at right-back rather than Joao Cancelo.

Parma are back in the top flight after a record three consecutive promotions since their bankruptcy in 2015.

They were 2-0 up over Udinese before drawing 2-2, then suffered a narrow defeat to surprise joint Serie A leaders SPAL.

Amato Ciciretti, Alessandro Bastoni, Jonathan Biabiany, Gianni Munari and Mattia Sprocati are still injured, with Emanuele Calaiò suspended.

Gervinho is now fit enough for a place in the starting XI with ex-Napoli and Chievo centre-forward Roberto Inglese, plus Antonio Di Gaudio to complete the trident.

Former Venezia creative midfielder Leo Stulac is one to watch in midfield, particularly with set plays and shots from distance.

This fixture last took place in 2015, where the Crociati surprisingly defeated Juventus 1-0 thanks to Jose Mauri’s strike.

Parma: Sepe; Iacoponi, Bruno Alves, Gagliolo, Gobbi; Rigoni, Stulac, Barillà; Gervinho, Inglese, Di Gaudio

Parma bench: Frattali, Bagheria, Dimarco, Da Cruz, Deiola, Ceravolo, Sierralta, Gazzola, Sprocati

Juventus: Szczesny; Cuadrado, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Bernardeschi, Mandzukic, Cristiano Ronaldo

Juventus bench: Perin, Pinsoglio, De Sciglio, Benatia, Dybala, Douglas Costa, Barzagli, Kean, Cancelo, Emre Can, Rugani, Bentancur

HT 1-1: Gervinho scares Juventus

Gervinho has caused huge problems for Juventus, cancelling out a Mario Mandzukic opener for the 1-1 draw at half-time.

The Old Lady hadn’t walked out on the Stadio Tardini turf since 2015, as Parma went bankrupt and returned to Serie A after three consecutive promotions. Juve were hoping to maintain their 100 per cent record and again dropped Paulo Dybala, using Juan Cuadrado as a right-back with Cristiano Ronaldo accompanying Mario Mandzukic. The Ducali missed Emanuele Calaiò, Jonathan Biabiany, Amato Ciciretti, Alessandro Bastoni and Mattia Sprocati, but ex-Roma veteran Gervinho got his first start.

It took all of 120 seconds to break through, as Iacoponi and Mandzukic both jumped for the Juan Cuadrado cross, it landed at the Croatian’s feet and he was quick to tap in the loose ball.

Parma had a huge chance to equalise, as Gervinho went on a slalom through the Juve defence, rolled across for Antonio Di Gaudio and was denied by a desperate Cuadrado tackle in the six-yard box.

Luigi Sepe beat away a Sami Khedira scorcher and the follow-up from offside Federico Bernardeschi, but Miralem Pjanic was booked for a lunge on Di Gaudio and Leo Stulac’s resulting free kick smacked against the crossbar off Wojciech Szczesny’s fingertips.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s towering header glanced inches wide from a corner, while Stulac again stung Szczesny’s gloves from distance with a viciously dipping attempt.

Parma got their fully deserved equaliser with probably their best player so far – Gervinho. Massimo Gobbi’s cross was flicked on by the head of Roberto Inglese and the Ivorian veteran tapped in from point-blank range.

Szczesny was called into a desperate save on the stroke of half-time, as Gervinho shook off Cuadrado and rolled across for Rigoni unmarked.

Parma 1-1 Juventus (Half-Time)

Mandzukic 2 (J), Gervinho 33 (P)

Parma: Sepe; Iacoponi, Bruno Alves, Gagliolo, Gobbi; Rigoni, Stulac, Barillà; Gervinho, Inglese, Di Gaudio

Juventus: Szczesny; Cuadrado, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Bernardeschi, Mandzukic, Cristiano Ronaldo

Mario Mandzukic scored one and set up another for Blaise Matuidi, as Juventus scraped victory in Parma despite Gervinho’s goal.

It took all of 120 seconds to break through, as Simone Iacoponi and Mandzukic both jumped for the Juan Cuadrado cross, it landed at the Croatian’s feet and he was quick to tap in the loose ball.

Ronaldo scuffed horribly from 12 yards and Max Allegri threw on Douglas Costa, who immediately played a part in the goal. The Brazilian’s low ball was flicked on by Mandzukic’s heel for Blaise Matuidi to blast into the roof of the net from a very tight angle.

Gervinho seemed very irritated at being substituted on the hour mark, as after a standing ovation from the Stadio Tardini crowd, he didn’t shake Coach Roberto D’Aversa’s hand.

Douglas Costa thought he’d scored with a sensational swerving strike from outside the box, but it clipped the edge of the far post.

Di Gaudio’s curler flashed just wide on the counter and a dangerous Gobbi cross whipped all the way across the face of goal.

Parma: Sepe; Iacoponi, Bruno Alves, Gagliolo, Gobbi; Rigoni (Da Cruz 60), Stulac, Barillà; Gervinho (Deiola 60), Inglese, Di Gaudio (Ceravolo 80)

Allegri: 'Deserved Juve victory'

224830472-ef149baf-55a2-450e-aa58-b6e722

https://www.football-italia.net/127441/allegri-deserved-juve-victory

Sep 1, 2018

Max Allegri felt Juventus earned “a deserved victory, but we have a lot more work to do” after their 2-1 result away to Parma.

The Bianconeri have now won three out of three, but it was another hard-fought match, as Gervinho had temporarily cancelled out a Mario Mandzukic opener before Blaise Matuidi’s winner.

“The lads did very well. Parma is a difficult place to play and we’d only won one of our last five visits,” the Coach told DAZN.

“Parma are fighting to secure safety, are very organised and dangerous on the counter, but they ran out of steam towards the end. It’s a deserved victory, but we have a lot more work to do.

“We should’ve been more patient and not so hasty, as it played into Parma’s hands in the first half.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has still not broken his Serie A duck and missed a good opportunity at the Stadio Tardini.

“There are different difficulties a striker has to deal with in Serie A, but he had a good game overall. I am happy with what he’s doing and the break for international duty will help all of us to be sharper.

“Mandzukic has always been generous, but even I didn’t expect him to be in such good shape after the World Cup. Paulo Dybala is slowly finding his form too and did well when he came on.

“I need everyone going forward, such as Medhi Benatia, Andrea Barzagli and Daniele Rugani, so the more fresh legs and sharp minds we’ve got, the better.”

Messi: 'Juventus clear favourites'

https://www.football-italia.net/127523/messi-juventus-clear-favourites

Sep 3, 2018

Barcelona star Lionel Messi was “surprised” by Cristiano Ronaldo’s move, but now “Juventus are a clear favourite to win the Champions League.”

The €100m transfer may not have provided any goals in his first three Serie A games, but the Ballon d’Or winner has always given his best in European competition.

Even his biggest rival for major international trophies agreed, as Messi told Catalunya Radio that CR7 tips the balance.

“Real Madrid are less strong without Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad, as obviously he is one of the best in the world” said the Argentina international.

“Juventus are a clear favourite to win the Champions League now they have Cristiano Ronaldo. I was surprised by his decision, as I didn’t expect him to leave Madrid or go to Juventus. It’s a very good team.”

Last season, the Blaugrana crashed out after an extraordinary Roma comeback in the quarter-final.

“We’ve gone out in the quarter-finals for three years running and the last one was the most painful for the way it came about. We have to aim for the trophy, because we can do it.

“We missed out because of details, in the Pep Guardiola era against Inter, and Chelsea. Other clubs are strong, have a lot of money and sign many players, like the two Manchesters, Chelsea, Real Madrid, PSG, various Italian clubs, they all have a lot of money.

“Plus when things don’t go our way, we struggle to react, as we did against Roma. We did not react the right way during the game.”

Inter: Modric case closed sefz

FIFA has cleared Inter of any wrongdoing after Real Madrid accused them of illegally approaching Luka Modric.

Madrid had reported Inter to FIFA, claiming the Nerazzurri had violated Article 18 of FIFA’s Regulations of the Status and Transfer of Players with regards to Modric.

However, Gazzetta dello Sport writes no more action will be taken after hearing the accounts of both clubs and the midfielder himself.

Juve-less Italy after 20 years

https://www.football-italia.net/127798/juve-less-italy-after-20-years

Sep 11, 2018

For the first time in 20 years, there have been no Juventus players in the starting XI of a competitive Italy match.

The Nations League clash with Portugal has been played yesterday in Lisbon at the Estadio da Luz.

CT Roberto Mancini tested out an experimental formation, changing nine of the 10 outfield players who featured against Poland on Friday.

There are representatives from Milan, Roma, Torino, Lazio, Fiorentina, SPAL, Genoa and Chelsea.

It’s the first time that Italy have started an official match without any Juventus players since June 17 1998, a 3-0 victory over Cameroon at the World Cup in France.

Curiously, there have been one Juventus player starting in Lisbon yesterday evening, but he was wearing the Portugal jersey: full-back Joao Cancelo.

Massimiliano Allegri promised changes as Juventus host Sassuolo, including Emre Can, while “Cristiano Ronaldo should break the ice.”

It kicks off on Sunday at 15.00 CET - 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT).

“Miralem Pjanic and Giorgio Chiellini are likely to be rested,” announced the Coach.

Emre Can, who came from a different style of football and it was only natural he’d need a period to adapt, especially after an injury.

“Emre Can and Rodrigo Bentancur can both replace Pjanic, even if they have different characteristics. If Alex Sandro doesn’t start, then either Mattia De Sciglio or Joao Cancelo will play. Medhi Benatia and Daniele Rugani are both in good shape and available.

“I can confirm Mario Mandzukic will start and so will Wojciech Szczesny – there will be room for Mattia Perin as the season goes on. Those who played two international games won’t start, with the exception of Blaise Matuidi.”

Cristiano Ronaldo skipped Portugal’s Nations League win over Italy in order to focus on training with his new club.

“Cristiano worked well and I think tomorrow he will break his duck,” continued Allegri. “I expect nothing more or less than what he did in the first three games, but I believe tomorrow he’ll find the back of the net and break the ice.

“With no offence to Luka Modric, I’d give the Ballon d’Or to Ronaldo for what he did last season. I think he deserves it.”

Sassuolo are still unbeaten after three rounds and sit in second place, having already beaten Inter, so it’s a tough test for the Bianconeri.

“Roberto De Zerbi is a talented young Coach and his teams play good football. The table tells us this is a head-to-head for position. Sassuolo have enthusiasm, good players and a Coach who is making his mark.

“Over the last few games, we have allowed a bit too much at the back and need to be more solid.”

Max Allegri complained the media “wants Paulo Dybala on the pitch and then can’t wait to tear him apart. There will be room for everyone.”

The first question was inevitably about Dybala, who has been dropped for recent Juve and Argentina games, raising doubts on his future.

“He didn’t play because I had to make tactical choices. Paulo’s quality is not up for debate, but I have to pick 11 players plus another three to come off the bench,” said the Coach.

“Fortunately, we can now begin to play three games per week. Paulo has to prove he deserves his place in the starting line-up. That is true for everyone and I know of no other way. When you have this much talent in the squad, someone has to sit out.

“However, I do not like the pressure people are putting on Dybala, because if he plays tomorrow and doesn’t have a great performance, you in the media are going to destroy him. You are the ones who want him on the pitch and can’t wait to tear him apart.

“I am very happy with the way he came off the bench in Parma for the last 15 minutes, as he already had a completely different approach. He just has to do like everyone else, train hard and find his form. There will be room for everyone, as from here to December 30 our objective is to qualify for the Champions League knockout rounds and stay on top of Serie A, so we can be geared up for the final push from March onwards.

“Let’s not forget that two years ago the team went all the way because everyone joined in and gave their contribution. The important thing is to find the right balance.”
