Leonardo Bonucci keen to leave 2010-11 disappointment behind

The Italy international is eager to return to winning ways after

last term's poor campaign and can't wait for the new season to kick off.

Aug 9, 2011

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci is desperate to leave the disappointment of their 2010-11 campaign behind as he's keen to improve on their results from the past few seasons.

The Turin side had to settle for seventh spot in the table last term and Bonucci can't wait to get going again this season as he has set his sights on a far better finish.

"I want to say to all fans that my team mates and I will give our all, and even more if possible, in order to achieve those results the Juventus fans deserve and to forget the disappointment of the last season as soon as possible," Bonucci was quoted as saying on the club's official website.

The defender then went on look back at Juve's pre-season fixtures and stated that they can't wait to kick off their league campaign.

"Even though the friendly matches played both in Italy and abroad have been very interesting and useful, we really can

Bonucci and Bruno Alves close to swapping clubs

Representatives from both teams are reportedly set to meet in Italy and conclude a deal

which will see the Italy and Portugal internationals switch employers on a permanent basis.

Aug 30, 2011

Juventus and Zenit St Petersburg are closing in on a player-exchange deal, which will see Leonardo Bonucci leave Turin to join the Russian club and Bruno Alves sign for the Italians, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Negotiations regarding the centre-backs have long been in the pipeline, with reports of such a deal originally emanating in early August, but it seems that the transfer is finally nearing completion.

The Russian outfit want to finalise the swap before the transfer window closes on Wednesday evening, the publication also states, as a delegation from Zenit will be instructed to conclude discussions with Juventus chiefs in Italy on Tuesday.

It is thought that the deal will satisfy Juventus coach Antonio Conte, who is known to prefer a more experienced head in defence, and he should receive his man in the form of Alves, a full international for his native Portugal with a decorated club career, having won titles in his homeland and Russia.

Bonucci, an Italy international, featured 34 times in Serie A during the 2010-11 campaign.

Zenit St Petersburg reject Leonardo Bonucci

swap offer for Bruno Alves

A report claims Portugal international looks set to miss out on Serie A

as Russian club will not accept an player exchange deal.

Aug 31, 2011

Juventus' move for Zenit St Petersburg defender Bruno Alves appears to have stumbled as the Russian side are not willing to accept a swap deal with Leonardo Bonucci.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports a transfer between the clubs before the end of the transfer window now looks unlikely.

The Italians were hoping to convince Zenit to enter into discussions by inserting Bonucci as part of a swap move, but directors at the Russian outfit have rejected the proposal out of hand.

Portugal international Alves moved to Zenit in January 2010 from Porto, and is admired and desired in Turin, but with the deal now appearing dead, Juventus are now considering a swoop for Rubin Kazan defender Salvatore Bocchetti, who is thought to be in talks over a move to Napoli.

Bonucci thanks Zenit for interest

Sep 1, 2011

Leonardo Bonucci has thanked Zenit St Petersburg for their interest in him, but has promised that his focus is now on improving with Juventus.

In the closing days of the transfer window, the 24-year-old centre-back was heavily linked with a move to the Russian Premier League side, but for his agent to confirm in the final hours of yesterday's deadline day that a deal had failed to materialise.

Bonucci today told Juventus' official website:

Leonardo Bonucci sees bright future for Juventus

The centre-back believes the club are on the right track but must continue their hard work to succeed.

Sep 12, 2011

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci is pleased with the way the club have begun the new Serie A campaign.

The Turin outfit ran rampant and wild in the 4-1 victory against Parma and Bonucci believes the club have a bright future ahead of them.

"Sunday's victory, the first in our new stadium, represents the beginning of the campaign that we were hoping for," the 24-year-old told Tuttosport.

"The three points were obtained with a performance of the highest level which makes me optimistic for the future.

"It's true that we are only at the beginning and the road is very long, but we know that we start on the right foot with tranquillity, serenity, inspiration, and much energy.

"These elements will cause results only with hard work and lots of training during the week," concluded the defender.

Bonucci: We aim to replicate our performance

from the victory against AC Milan throughout the season

The former Bari centre-back has expressed his delight with Sunday's win

and has urged his team-mates to repeat the display against the rest of the teams in Serie A.

Oct 4, 2011

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci has voiced his satisfaction with his side's 2-0 Serie A win over AC Milan at Juventus Stadium on Sunday, and added that he wants to see more of the same from the Turin giants in the remainder of the season.

Two late goals from Claudio Marchisio sealed the full three points for Antonio Conte's men, and Bonucci is confident that he and his team-mates can be successful if they can repeat their performance from the weekend.

"It was a great game, a great battle and a great Juve," Bonucci was quoted as saying by Tuttosport.

"Now we have only one target: repeat this performance; repeat this performance; repeat this performance.

"I'd like to dedicate this victory to our fans. They were simply wonderful."

Bonucci 'slightly bitter' about missing out on Italy squad

Juventus defender admits he is disappointed about not being called up to the latest Azzurri squad,

but has vowed to continue working hard and regain his place in the XI.

Nov 12, 2011

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci says he misses not being directly involved in national team affairs for Italy.

The 24-year-old had been a regular face in Cesare Prandelli's selections but has seen his game time for La Nazionale diminish of late, and his latest no-show in the ex-Fiorentina man's 24-man squad has prompted the centre-back to voice his disappointment.

"There is some bitterness at not being called up to the squad, but I'm still part of their plans," Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia.

"In football you should never take anything for granted."

However, he has promised to carry on ploughing all of his efforts into returning for Italy, before praising fellow defender Angelo Ogbonna, who made his debut for the four-time world champions against Poland on Friday.

"I think about just working hard and putting myself back in contention as one of the centre-backs," vowed Bonucci.

"Ogbonna's debut with the Azzurri? I know Angelo well, we often hang out in Turin. He's a very good guy and deserves all the attention he is getting," he enthused.

Prandelli's Bonucci-less Italy will take to the field against Uruguay on Tuesday at the Olimpico.

Leonardo Bonucci: Juventus should aim for Serie A title

The centre-back has voiced his opinion that the Turin giants have what it takes

to win the Scudetto, but has warned against complacency.

Nov 14, 2011

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci has stressed that the Turin giants should aim high this term as he feels they have the quality to fight for the Serie A title.

The Old Lady have made a strong start to the season, having taken 19 points from their opening nine encounters, and will return to the league summit if they win their game in hand against Napoli.

Bonucci feels Juventus are serious contenders for the Scudetto, but insists that they cannot afford to get carried away if they are to be successful.

"We can aim very high this campaign. Do I think we can go for the title? Yes. I think we can win Serie A," Bonucci was quoted as saying on the official Juventus website.

"However, we have to keep our feet firmly on the ground. Several sides are in the race for the Scudetto.

"We can focus on the league and give our all in Serie A. There are a lot of strong teams, though, who are all fighting for the full three points in every game."

Agent of Leonardo Bonucci refuses to rule out Roma move

The Italy international has apparently caught the attention of the Giallorossi,

and his agent has declined to comment on a much-rumoured potential transfer for his client.

Nov 17, 2011

Davide Torchia, the agent of Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, has fueled speculation about a potential transfer to Roma as he has refused to rule out a move in the January transfer window.

Roma are in the market for defensive reinforcements because of the serious knee injury to Nicolas Burdisso and a number of reports have suggested that the Stadio Olimpico side see Bonucci as a good replacement for the Argentine.

When asked about the situation at Roma, Torchia admitted that the Giallorossi are likely to sign a new defender, but declined to comment on whether his client is a candidate.

"Roma could decide to sign a new defender because of the misfortune of Burdisso with the national side. What I can say about Bonucci regarding this issue? Sorry, no comment," Torchia told Goal.com.

The 24-year-old Bonucci has a contract with Juventus, who are currently fourth in Serie A, until the summer of 2015.

Bonucci: 'They all fear Juve'

Dec 31, 2011

Leonardo Bonucci looks forward to a great 2012 from the camp in Dubai. “Now they all fear Juventus. The future depends only on us.”

The joint Serie A leaders are spending the winter break doing intensive training in Dubai before their next match against Lecce on January 7.

“Now all our opponents fear Juventus and we are at the top of the table,” said the defender.

“The future depends only on us, so we must continue along this path and begin again from Lecce with the same grit we showed at the start of the season.”

Juve are joint top with Scudetto holders Milan and many expect this to be the title tussle throughout the campaign.

“Considering the results achieved so far, I’d say that was true, but we must also not forget Udinese, Napoli and Lazio right behind. Now we have to only focus on facing the next five months, which will be even tougher than the first.”

Bonucci had no intention of complaining that Juventus went straight into a training session after a five-hour flight to Dubai.

“That is the credo of this year. It was the same in America over the summer and I think it’s only right, because that way we easily overcome the fatigue of the journey.”

Leonardo Bonucci to stay at Juventus despite

Martin Caceres' imminent arrival from Sevilla

The return of the Uruguayan defender, who enjoyed a loan spell in Turin in 2009-10,

will mean greater competition for places at the back for the Bianconeri.

Jan 25, 2012

Goal.com understands that Leonardo Bonucci will stay at Juventus, despite the imminent arrival of Martin Caceres from Sevilla.

There had been speculation that Bonucci might seek a move away from Turin before the end of the current transfer window, now that he is facing the prospect of being relegated to the bench.

However, according to sources close to the former Bari defender, he intends to remain at Juventus Stadium until the end of the season.

The Bianconeri are also understood to be unwilling to sell any first-team players midway through the season given that they are currently top of Serie A and also in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

In addition, Goal.com has also learned that there has been no contact this month from Zenit St, Petersburg, who tried to sign Bonucci last summer.

Meanwhile, the deal for Caceres, who enjoyed a previous loan spell at Juve during the 2009-10 campaign, is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours.

Bonucci denies involvement in Italian betting scandal

The former Bari defender was questioned by police on Friday, and has made it

clear that he has nothing to do with the Scommessopoli investigations.

Mar 11, 2012

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci has denied any involvement in the so-called Scommessopoli scandal that rocked Italian football in 2011, La Repubblica reports.

The centre-back was questioned by Puglia police on Friday about his role in the betting scandal, but Bonucci has made it clear that he was not aware of any attempts to manipulate games during his spell at Bari.

Il Corriere dello Sport reported that Bari's 3-3 draw against Udinese in the 2009-10 campaign has come under scrutiny as there are suspicions that the outcome of the match was influenced.

However, Bonucci insisted when questioned by investigators that he was neither involved in manipulating games, nor was aware of any attempts to fix matches.

Famous ex-players such as Cristiano Doni and Giuseppe Signori were arrested in 2011 for their alleged role in the scandal, as were a host of lower league players.

New Juve deals for Matri and Bonucci

Mar 30, 2012

Juventus will offer Alessandro Matri and Leonardo Bonucci new contracts in Turin, claims the giornalaccio rosa dello Sport.

Although both players are presently committed to the club until June 2015, it is being claimed that they will be offered fresh terms until June 2017.

Matri is Juventus’ top scorer in Serie A so far this term with 10 goals, while Bonucci has made 23 Serie A appearances for a side which has played with three centre-backs on occasions under Antonio Conte.

The Turin giants, just four points off Serie A leaders Milan, are also set to offer new deals to Gigi Buffon, Andrea Barzagli and boss Conte in the near future.

Matri and Bonucci renew to 2017

Apr 2, 2012

Juventus have been handed a double-boost on Monday with the news that Alessandro Matri and Leonardo Bonucci have both signed new contracts.

A few days after teammate Paolo De Ceglie put pen to paper on a new deal with the Turin giants, so too have Matri and Bonucci, both agreeing deals to stay with the club until June 2017.

Both players were signed during the 2010-11 season, defender Bonucci arriving from Bari in the summer, whilst forward Matri came in during January from Cagliari.

Bonucci opened the scoring this weekend for his side during their 3-0 win over Napoli and even though Matri sat that out, he remains the club’s top scorer in the League with 10 goals this term.

Bonucci and Matri sign new Juventus contracts until 2017

The Bianconeri have decided to reward two more players with improved deals as

the Turin giants continue to tie down their most promising talents to secure their long-term future.

Apr 2, 2012

Juventus have announced on their official website that Leonardo Bonucci and Alessandro Matri have signed new contracts until 2017.

Both players have been first-team regulars at Juventus since Antonio Conte took over at the club in the summer and have decided to add two years to their previous deals, which were due to expire in 2015.

The move comes just two weeks after Paolo De Ceglie also signed a new contract with Juventus until 2017 after becoming an important member in Conte's squad since the start of the calendar year.

Bonucci, who scored the first goal in Sunday's 3-0 victory against Napoli, arrived at Juventus in 2010 from Bari, while Matri moved to Turin in January 2011 from Cagliari.

Bonucci wants his goal back

Apr 4, 2012

Leonardo Bonucci is somewhat surprised that Juve teammate Mirko Vucinic was retrospectively assigned the opening goal in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Napoli.

The striker’s shot was deflected in past Morgan De Sanctis by the Juventus defender, but the Lega Calcio awarded the effort to the Montenegro international on Monday.

“I touched the ball without a shadow of a doubt,” the former Inter and Bari player told the giornalaccio rosa dello Sport. “Otherwise, I wouldn’t have celebrated like that.

“In order for the Lega to give Vucinic the goal, they classed my action as someone who was trying to dodge out of the way – but that is the natural reaction of someone who is hit by something.

“The goal is mine!”

Despite his argument, Vucinic, according to the Lega at least, remains the official scorer of the first goal.
