Pjanic: ‘I want trophies at Juventus’

http://www.football-italia.net/87395/pjanic-‘i-want-trophies-juventus’

Jul 15, 2016

Miralem Pjanic says his objectives this season at Juventus are simple - “trophies”.

The Bosnian midfielder has joined the Bianconeri from Roma, and spoke to his new club’s official website about the season ahead.

“I’m very happy to be here,” Pjanic said.

“We’ve definitely trained and prepared well in the first few days. I’m getting to know my teammates slowly, so I’m getting used to it.

“I’m very happy to be with the Italian champions and I hope I can really help the team this season.

“My objectives? Trophies. I’ll be available to the team, I’ll do my best. The important thing is the team and I’ll try to help out on the pitch and be one extra for this season.”

Pjanic: ‘Understanding with Dybala’

http://www.football-italia.net/87756/pjanic-‘understanding-dybala’

Jul 22, 2016

Miralem Pjanic says he and Juventus teammate Paulo Dybala “understand each other”.

The midfielder has joined the Bianconeri this summer from Roma, and is currently in Australia with the rest of the squad for the International Champions Cup.

“Dybala and I understand each other,” Pjanic confirmed in a Press conference.

“I’ll try to help our forwards score as many as possible. I chose Juve because they wanted me strongly and I felt it was time for a change.

“I’ve immediately felt the atmosphere of this club, all that counts is winning, it’s the air you breathe.”

Pjanic and Benatia set for Juventus debuts

The Bianconeri's new signings will line up against Tottenham in Tuesday's

International Champions Cup clash, while Roberto Pereyra is also in the frame.

Miralem Pjanic and Medhi Benatia will make their Juventus debuts against Tottenham in the International Champions Cup (ICC) on Tuesday, Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed.

Pjanic moved to Turin from Serie A rivals Roma this summer for €32 million, while Benatia joined in an initial loan deal from Bayern Munich, with the Italian champions holding an option to make it permanent.

The two signings missed out on Juve's defeat to Melbourne Victory on Saturday, but Massimiliano Allegri confirmed they will feature against the Premier League side.

"Benatia's going to play, as well as Pjanic and Roberto Pereyra," he said on Monday.

"We're probably going to play with four defenders but as a right-back, maybe I'm going to pick a young player or Alex Sandro."

A flat performance against Melbourne saw the Bianconeri lose on penalties in their ICC opener, but the coach has demanded a stronger display when they take on Mauricio Pochettino's men.

"Tuesday is going to be a very different game and I'm expecting that there is going to be more intensity," he said.

Allegri spent the first section of training working on defensive shape with a back five of Alex Sandro, Carlos Blanco, Benatia, Daniele Rugani and Kwadwo Asamoah.

After working with a quintet, Sandro and Blanco took turns on the sidelines as Allegri tested out a back four.

The defenders were forced to move from side to side on the pitch as Allegri and two of his assistants kept possession before the Juve coach tested them with a long-ball.

Possible Juve XI: Neto, Sandro, Benatia, Rugani, Asamoah, Hernanes, Lemina, Pjanic, Pereyra, Dybala, Cerri.

Pjanic pleased with Juventus intensity in win over Spurs

The new signing made his first appearance for the Bianconeri in their win over the

English side and believes the early signs are good, but feels they can improve.

Miralem Pjanic was pleased with Juventus' improved intensity in their 2-1 win over Tottenham in the International Champions Cup on Tuesday.

Pjanic played just over an hour at the MCG, setting up Juve's second goal in his maiden appearance for the Serie A champions.

After a disappointing performance in their ICC opener against Melbourne Victory on Saturday, Juve looked much hungrier for the contest against Spurs, especially in the first half where Pjanic and Paulo Dybala pulled the strings.

"I think the intensity was good," Pjanic said after the win.

"Of course, we have some things to do better. We lose a little bit too many balls during the game but it's normal, it's just the beginning.

"I think that the team played well and the intensity was good."

Juventus opened the scoring after just five minutes when Roberto Pereyra won possession in Tottenham's defensive half and teed up Dybala.

Just eight minutes later, it was 2-0 as Spurs failed to clear Dybala's corner and Pjanic pounced, chipping the ball to the back post for fellow debutant Medhi Benatia to head home.

With almost a month before the 2016-17 Serie A season begins, Pjanic appeared excited by what Massimiliano Allegri's squad can achieve in the upcoming campaign.

"I've been with the team just one month, so I'm [getting to know] everybody. When we come back to Turin, the other players will come also," the midfielder said.

"So I think we have a good team and we'll do great things this year."

Juninho: 'Pjanic heir to Pirlo'

http://www.football-italia.net/88704/juninho-pjanic-heir-pirlo

Aug 3, 2016

Juninho Pernambucano says Juventus signing Miralem Pjanic is a free-kick specialist at the level of Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi and Gareth Bale.

The two champions played together at Lyon, where one may expect the Bosnian to have learned a few tricks regarding dead-ball situations.

“Pjanic joined us when he was very young, but he already showed a great deal of talent and you could tell that he would have an important future,” Juninho told Tuttosport. “He had quality in taking free kicks, and now he's among the best.

“Today Miralem is at the level of Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi and Gareth Bale, people who have an excellent shot.

“I appreciate his ability to change his way of kicking. He's excellent, but not just in that. Miralem possesses three qualities that make him a top player: his talent, his character and his love for football. I consider him one of Europe's best midfielders: he is technical and very flexible.

“Mire is the perfect replacement for [Andrea] Pirlo for his talent, love of football and charisma. Not in terms of his position though. Pirlo is a master above all for the way that he directs play. He can orchestrate his team and give them a sense of direction, and in particular he can dictate rhythm by alternating long and short plays.

“Pjanic's talent, on the other hand, emerges largely in individual plays. I see him best as a mezzala or as a trequartista. But over time, Mire can certainly take Pirlo's place in the heart of the Bianconeri fans.”

The Brazilian also discussed another of Juventus' most prominent stars, young striker Paulo Dybala.

“I have enormous respect for the Argentine, he'll have a great future. I saw a gorgeous goal of his against Verona. He has a special way of kicking. He does it in the classical way, but he can impress special speed into the ball.

“But you can tell that he needs to work on it. Since he's young, he should train at least twice a week on dead-ball shots, and repeat the long shot very often. The repetitiveness of the gesture is fundamental in order to become free-kick specialists.

“Dani Alves? I was surprised, I thought he'd finish his career at Barcelona. But I'm not surprised that Juventus chose to sign him. He's a good move.

“Dani Alves is still one of the best right-backs in the world. The only problem may be that he's very much an offensive player, while in Italy you must be much more solid defensively. His teammates will have to understand his attacking skills, his plays and his intelligence.”

Pjanic: ‘Understanding with Dybala’

http://www.football-italia.net/88991/pjanic-‘understanding-dybala’

Aug 9, 2016

Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic discusses his relationship with Paulo Dybala - “he reads my passes in advance”.

The Bosnian international joined the Bianconeri from Roma this summer, and already has a good understanding with his new teammates.

“I get on very well with Paulo,” Pjanic confirmed to Sky.

“He reads my passes in advance and it’s very easy to play with someone like him. All the forwards are very strong though, and it won’t be an easy choice for the Coach [Max Allegri].

“I’ll try to give them good balls, because they know how to exploit them.

“Who will take free kicks? It’s not a competition, the most important thing is that whoever takes them feels convinced that he can score.

“What’s important for me is that the team wins, but of course I want to score a lot of free-kicks.”

Pjanic then discussed the Old Lady’s aims for the coming season.

“Juve have built a good team, they already had a great team having won five years in a row. So it’s a club which is aiming to win and always wants to improve.

“They’ve made a strong team available once again, but we’ll have to show on the pitch that we’re a strong team. So the important thing is to send out a strong signal right at the start of the season.

“I’ll make myself available to the team in order to keep winning as they have been for the last five years. So far I’ve played both as a trequartista and in front of the defence.

“Obviously they’re different roles, but I like both. Against West Ham I played as a regista and I feel good, but obviously we have to refine things and we’ll try to do that in the next match.

“The Champions League? The aim is to go as far as possible. In recent years Juventus have shown themselves to be on the same level as the strongest teams.

“We’ll think about the group stage, then from the second round onwards anything can happen, and it’s often the details which make the difference.

“Paul Pogba’s sale? Paul did very well here, leaving a beautiful memory for the club, the fans and his teammates.

“Sometimes there comes a point where a player feels like he needs a change of scenery, and we wish him good luck.”

Pjanic also moved club this summer, joining the Bianconeri from Roma, what kind of reception does he expect on his return to the Olimpico?

“I expect a tough game against a very strong team, led by an excellent Coach [Luciano Spalletti],” Pjanic replied.

“I spent five wonderful years in Rome and it’ll be a special match for me, but now I’m wearing a different shirt and I’ll do everything to win.”

Allegri: Pjanic will become one of the best in the world

Manager’s comments after pre-season friendly against Espanyol

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2016/8/14/12468892/allegri-pjanic-one-

of-the-best-in-the-world-juventus-midfielder-espanyol-post-match-comments?

Aug 13, 2016

Juventus came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with La Liga outfit Espanyol in the champions’ last external pre-season game before taking on Fiorentina in the season opener next Saturday. The senior squad will take on the Primavera team on Wednesday to finish off the summer.

The Bianconeri struggled to make chances in the first half of the game, played in Modena’s Stadio Alberto Braglia. Manager Massimiliano Allegri even experimented with a three-striker trident formation in the second half, but had to come from behind late in the game to tie it.

“On Saturday the real season begins against Fiorentina, so we must ensure that we are ready.

“It was a good training session this evening, although we struggled to find spaces in the first half. There were some defensive black-outs, but we also made the most of our chances.”

Record striker signing Gonzalo Higuain started for the first time, but looked off the pace once again in the three-forward setup -

“He and those who started pre-season training later will need a while to get to the same level. I don’t know if Paulo Dybala as a trequartista behind Mario Mandzukic and Higuain is a good idea, but it’s certainly an idea. These players have the characteristics to do it, though clearly everyone must be willing to work hard.”

When asked if Juve would look to replace Paul Pogba, whose transfer was finally confirmed in the past week, he said -

"The important thing is that the player is talented, technically gifted and has the character to play for Juventus. The market closes on August 31 and the club has done very well so far.

"We don't need a new striker, as there would be no point signing someone inferior to the level we already have."

Allegri also spoke about summer signing Miralem Pjanic, who he is using in a more withdrawn manner, where Andrea Pirlo played in front of the defence -

“He seems like Hernanes, who last year had never played in front of the defence and now looks like a totally different player. Miralem is a top player and I believe he can become one of the world’s best in that position just in front of the defence. He just has to learn to play the kind of passes, which are more typical for that area on the field.”

Espanyol Draw Shows Miralem Pjanic

Can't Carry Juventus Midfield Alone

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2657600-espanyol-draw-

shows-miralem-pjanic-cant-carry-juventus-midfield-alone?

Having dominated Serie A for the past five years, Juventus are undoubtedly expected to lift the title for a record sixth consecutive time when the 2016/17 season comes to an end. But, as the Old Lady prepares to begin the defence of her crown against Fiorentina next Saturday, there is still much work to be done.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri has begun to integrate his five new signings, with Dani Alves, Medhi Benatia, Miralem Pjanic, Marko Pjacaand Gonzalo Higuain all featuring in the club's latest friendly.

Held to a 2-2 draw by Espanyol, it was a game that brought the fitness of the side a little closer to where it needs to be, but one which also highlighted a number of issues that must be addressed as quickly as possible.

View image on TwitterView image on TwitterView image on Twitter

Gonzalo Higuaín, Dani Alves & Marko Pjaca made their Juventus debuts on Sunday. #UCL stars in 2016/17? #UCL

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, the Bianconeri attack only began to fire when Allegri introduced Paulo Dybala after the break. The Argentina native appears to still be in the rich vein of form he displayed throughout 2015/16, but Juve are in danger of becoming over-reliant on the 22-year-old striker.

That was a matter discussed in this previous post, with perhaps onlyPjaca able to provide cover as a second striker. The Croatia international may well prove capable of fulfilling that role, but the Turin giants would do well to seek out an alternative before the transfer window closes on August 31.

As if to highlight the point, it would be Dybala who snatched the draw against Espanyol. With time running out, he took the ball to the edge of the box and curled home what is now a trademark effort with his left foot.

tQmRc3OMBZHulrqQ.jpg

Paulo Dybala saves Juventus with this ridiculous strike against Espanyol in a friendly match.

Known as La Joya—Spanish for "The Jewel"—he is clearly a precious commodity for the Bianconeri, yet the outing at Modena's StadioAlberto Braglia also showed that Pjanic will be expected to shine brightly this term.

Juve's official website revealed they paid rivals AS Roma €32 million for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, a superb piece of business for a player whose importance to Allegri's side simply cannot be understated.

With Paul Pogba having left for Manchester United, Pjanic will need to shoulder the responsibility of being the team's key midfielder; a source of creativity, inspiration and quality whenever he has the ball.

He can undoubtedly do just that. Over five seasons with the Giallorossihe has repeatedly proven his ability but admitted to Mercato365 (h/tFootball Italia) that he had moved on in order to win the silverware that had eluded him in the Italian capital:

I've had a progressive career. I’ve advanced step-by-step, without ever wanting to make too big a leap too quickly. I think this is a good time for a change of atmosphere and to go to a very big club like Juventus.

I want to win, and I’m really hungry for trophies, so I hope to do that with this very strong team.

Pjanic will bring tactical intelligence, a superb range of passing and a deadly knack of scoring from set pieces to the side, but perhaps his biggest asset to Juventus will be his sheer versatility.

That was something Allegri noted immediately after the Bianconericaptured the 26-year-old back in June, telling Sky Italia (h/t FootballItalia) that Pjanic “can play in front of the defence, but also in the middle or at trequartista."

That will allow the coach to switch between the 3-5-2 and 4-3-1-2 formations that have been his main options over the past two seasons, but Claudio Marchisio’s injury is likely to see the Bosnia native exclusively employed in front of the defence as 2016/17 gets underway.

4 - Pjanic was the only midfielder to reach double figures for both goals and assists in Serie A 15/16. #OptaBest11

Clearly possessing the ability to fulfil that role, Allegri told Sky Italia (h/tFourFourTwo) that "Pjanic will become one of the best in the world in that position" following the draw with Espanyol.

For his part, the player is also convinced he can make a difference when deployed there. “I enjoyed playing in that position, from there I can dictate the play,” he told a reporters shortly after the final whistle in Modena, per Juve’s official website.

But he cannot do it alone. For all the team boasts superb depth, there is a growing concern that there is a lack of top-level quality in the midfield area, especially as the durability of Marchisio and SamiKhedira remains questionable.

The signing of Hernanes last summer was undoubtedly a major mistake, the club’s official website revealing that they paid Inter Milana staggering €11 million, with a potential for a further €2 million in bonuses.

hi-res-afc31eb7100440df125b1262614284a1_

Matthias Schrader/Associated Press

He made just 14 appearances in Serie A last term, his presence coinciding with some desperately poor results. It would be churlish to solely blame Hernanes for losses to Napoli and Sassuolo—plus draws with Chievo and Frosinone—but there is no denying he contributed to them.

Steady veteran Simone Padoin was dreadful in Juve’s early-season loss to AS Roma, but he has since moved on to Cagliari, leaving StefanoSturaro and Mario Lemina as the other available alternatives in midfield.

Both have shown their qualities at various times, with the latter in particular shaping up to be a fine prospect. In 10 league appearances during 2015/16, the Gabon international scored two goals, while statistics provided by WhoScored.com show he averaged 2.3 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game.

The same source also highlighted Lemina’s tidy distribution, connecting with an impressive 89.8 percent of his 46.3 pass attempts per game. He is undeniably ready to play a bigger role this term, and he should be given more space to showcase his talents by Allegri moving forward.

He has been the subject of transfer speculation all summer, with theCalciomercato website (h/t Richard Amofa of the Telegraph) reporting that the Bianconeri turned down a €16 million bid from Arsenal this week.

Holding on to Lemina is a smart move, while Sturaro too is quickly growing into a reliable option. Yet—if we consider Pjanic-Marchisio-Khedira the first-choice trio—the midfield problem for Juventus will likely resurface if they are forced to cope without two of those players.

Fielding Pjanic with two of Sturaro, Lemina and Hernanes is a recipe for disaster and something the Bianconeri must avoid, even if it means making a new signing at this late stage of the summer.

The evidence is there from when Juve found themselves in this exact situation last season, and the Old Lady should by now be too wise and experience to repeat that same mistake. Pjanic is a great signing, but he cannot carry the midfield burden alone.

Pjanic relishing Juve quality

http://www.football-italia.net/89727/pjanic-relishing-juve-quality?

Aug 14, 2016

Miralem Pjanic is enjoying his new midfield role at Juventus and “the more quality we’ve got out there, the better.”

The Bianconeri were held to a 2-2 draw by Espanyol in last night’s friendly, which saw a new system with Paulo Dybala behind Mario Mandzukic and Gonzalo Higuain.

“It’s true, the more quality we’ve got out there, the better. It’s a lot more fun that way,” Pjanic told reporters in Modena.

“The result was disappointing and we should’ve avoided conceding those two goals, but in general it was a good test before the start of the season.

“The team showed some good things against a very defensive opponent. Naturally, we can improve.”

Coach Max Allegri said Pjanic can become “one of the best in the world” as a deep-lying playmaker.

“I need to get the hang of the movements, but I will get used to it. I can do better, but in general it is a role I really enjoy.”

Pjanic, Free Kick King

Probably the best set play specialist in the world, Adam Digby analyses Miralem Pjanic’s unique skill.

http://www.football-italia.net/90168/pjanic-free-kick-king?

Aug 22, 2016

Last summer saw Andrea Pirlo leave Serie A, taking his exquisite passing and deadly free kicks to New York City FC. Many wondered who would inherit his title as the King of Set Pieces on the Peninsula, but they would not have to wait long for an answer. Indeed, in just the second game of the 2015-16 campaign, Miralem Pjanic would snatch the crown for himself by delivering a knockout blow to the now Pirlo-less Juventus.

With just over an hour on the clock and as Francesco Totti looked on from the bench, the Bosnian midfielder lined up the ball and prepared to despatch it towards goal. He completely ignored both the goalkeeper and the wall of defenders standing between him and the back of the net, instead focusing on what he needed to do to render them both irrelevant.

“I often practice my free kicks in training in order to improve my accuracy,” he would reveal to La Gazzetta dello Sport later. “I never work on their trajectories though, as those are in my head since I can always work out the distance from goal.” That is exactly what Pjanic did on that late-August evening against the Bianconeri, curling home a magnificent effort, one hit with such precision that even the great Gigi Buffon found himself rooted to the spot.

The Juve Captain will likely be thankful that – thanks to a €32m move to Turin this summer – the pair will now be on the same side rather than staring each other down during further dead ball situations. Indeed, since he arrived on the peninsula back in 2011, only Pirlo (12) has netted more Serie A free kicks than Pjanic (11) with four of his tally coming last season alone, as he becomes an increasingly greater threat.

Yet before he was a master of his craft, he served as an apprentice to perhaps the greatest set piece specialist the game has ever seen. Joining Olympique Lyonnais as a teenager, the new Juve man was fortunate enough to work closely with Juninho Pernambucano, who believes his former pupil is now the best in the business.

“It's difficult to compare him to me, because I don't like talking about myself too much,” the Brazilian told L’Equipe last year. “But Mire has incredible quality. He's maybe the best free-kick taker in the world today. He's very efficient and above all consistent. That's the most difficult part.” He would go on to add that he had told Pjanic that “repetition of the action was the most important thing in order to become a great free-kick taker.” It was a lesson that the younger man has clearly taken to heart.

Watching any compilation of his goals leads to two simple conclusions. Firstly, he has heeded Juninho’s words and his execution rarely differs. Every time, the arc of his run up, the way he plants his left foot and the swing of his magical right boot are almost identical. However, the second thing of note – and something he certainly has worked on by himself since leaving Lyon – is the sheer variety of strikes that follow that textbook delivery.

While Juninho – and indeed Cristiano Ronaldo – always opt for dipping, powerful efforts, Pjanic is also capable of delicately curved trajectories or low, driven shots underneath the wall. His ability to deceive, mislead and misdirect goalkeepers is arguably his greatest asset. They simply have no idea what to expect.

Lost for a way to describe an effort against Empoli last term, La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Andrea Pugliese said his delivery was “magical. His right foot is truly a wand, like something from a Harry Potter film.”

But putting aside the platitudes and the silky metaphors, it is accuracy and hard work that truly set Pjanic aside from his rivals. Back in October 2015, it was calculated that since the start of 2013-14, he had scored with 18.4% of the efforts he had taken, almost 3% better than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.

It is a technique he has honed over hours and hours on the training ground, and even his summer move to Juventus has not stopped him from putting in that effort. “These days, we've got a few of us stopping behind to practice,” Paulo Dybala said recently, revealing that he and Pjanic were part of Juve’s “Thursday club” who continue to work on this particular skill.

The prospect of seeing the left-footed Argentinian and his new team-mate preparing to take an effort in a game will likely mean some sleepless nights for goalkeepers across Italy and beyond, but it is undoubtedly Pjanic who continues to reign over his rivals. Long live the King.

Pjanic confident Juventus debut is on the horizon

After missing the first two Serie A games through injury, the former Roma star is eyeing

his first outing in Bianconeri colours and does not believe his team are automatic title....

http://www.goal.com/en/news/723/serie-a/2016/08/30/27021942/-?

Aug 30, 2016

Miralem Pjanic is hopeful he can make his debut for Juventus after the international break following his €32 million move from Roma.

The Bosnia-Herzegovina international penned a five-year contract with the defending Serie A champions in June.

However, he has yet to feature in a competitive game for Massimiliano Allegri's men after he picked up a minor injury issue in pre-season.

Still, Pjanic is confident of being involved against Sassuolo on September 11.

"At Juve a lot of attention is paid to physical fitness," the playmaker told reporters.

"I had a small injury at the beginning so we didn't want to risk and I am sure after this international break I will make my debut for Juve."

Having also signed the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Marko Pjaca and Dani Alves during a busy transfer window, Pjanic is impressed with the strength in depth Juve have in their ranks.

But despite the Italian champions starting their quest for a sixth straight league title with two straight wins, the 26-year-old has moved to cool talk that they are automatic favourites to lift the Scudetto again.

"In the Champions League our goal is to pass the group and after that everything is possible. We want to be better than last year," Pjanic added.

"Juve are among [the] best teams in the world, the pressure we feel is big, but positive. We work a lot and the attitude is great, positive.

"Higuain, Pjaca and me are new in the team and we need to fit in as soon as we can and the coach will decide who will play. We have two top players in each position and hope for great season.

"It is still too early to talk about the Scudetto, Roma, Napoli, Inter and Milan will fight for the title.

"Juventus had a great summer, so did Inter. Napoli is okay and didn't change much, just like Roma."

Pjanic: 'No Juventus limits'

http://www.football-italia.net/90677/pjanic-no-juventus-limits?

Miralem Pjanic explains why he felt the need to leave Roma and confirmed Juventus “won’t set limits” on their Champions League ambition.

The midfielder activated his release clause to quit Roma for their Serie A rivals.

“Roma probably needed to sell me for financial reasons, but my desire was always to join Juve,” the Bosnian told vecernji.ba while on international duty.

“I wanted a change of scenery and to try something new after five wonderful years with the Giallorossi. Now I am at Juve and hope to win a great deal at this club that wanted me so much.

“Max Allegri is an excellent Coach. I have a good rapport with him. At Juventus we mainly focus on training the physical aspect of a player, which is why we didn’t want to risk using me in Serie A when I had a knock. I’ll certainly make my debut after the break.

“We want to improve what we did last year in the Champions League. We want to get through the group and then anything could happen. We won’t set limits.

“Napoli, Roma, Milan and Inter will fight for the Scudetto with us. Roma haven’t changed much, but they remain a strong side.”

I’m fine now, warns Pjanic

Sep 7, 2016

Miralem Pjanic has warned Juventus’ rivals that “I’m fine now” as “an important cycle” awaits his side.

Pjanic has yet to make a competitive appearance for Juve since his €32m arrival from Roma back in June, but the midfielder insists his fitness issues are now behind him and that he is raring to go, with club football returning to the fore this weekend.

“I had small physical problems for the first two matches, but I’m fine now,” he told Premium Sport.

“Now there will be Sassuolo, then Sevilla. An important cycle awaits us, but we’ll be there.

“What we want is to keep the victories [of] last year going without forgetting the Champions League.

“Meanwhile, we [will look to] go through. Then we’ll see.”

who have made a 100 per cent start to the season after three games.

Miralem Pjanic was happy with his goalscoring Juventus debut but said his new side could have been more comfortable in their 3-1 win over Sassuolo.

The Bosnian midfielder scored the Serie A champions' third goal of a blistering opening half hour, slamming the ball into the net after his looping header rebounded off the crossbar.

Sassuolo pulled one back shortly afterwards, but Juventus dominated thereafter and claimed their third victory of the season, maintaining their 100 per cent record.

"We won, that is the most important thing, as we are happy with the three points, but we can do even better," Pjanic told JTV.

"We prepared well for the game against Sassuolo, who are a really good team, but we could've been more determined in front of goal and scored a couple more.

"We have so many strikers and excellent players in the squad and we play to achieve great objectives. We can do that all together."

Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri played Pjanic as one of a central midfield three, along with Sami Khedira and Mario Lemina, but the 26-year-old is happy to play anywhere for his new club.

Pjanic and his team-mates will turn their attentions to the Champions League on Wednesday, when Sevilla are their Group H opponents, and the former Roma player is confident Juventus will make a winning start to their European campaign.

"I can play from the middle or wing, wherever the coach asks me," he said. "The understanding with my team-mates is great.

"On Wednesday we start the Champions League and we want to start in the best way - with a win."

Pjanic: ‘A pleasure to play with…’

http://www.football-italia.net/91325/pjanic-‘-pleasure-play-with…’

Sep 12, 2016

Juventus’ Miralem Pjanic says it is a pleasure to be playing alongside the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala.

The Bosnian joined the Bianconeri from Roma during the summer and made his debut on Saturday, scoring in a 3-1 victory over Sassuolo.

“It really is a pleasure to play with Gonzalo and Paulo, they are two players who understand football,” Pjanic told Tuttosport.

“All it needs is a look in order for them to understand where you want the ball and it’s the same for them.

“As time passes, the understanding will develop even more. For sure, the further we go forward the more we will understand each other to perfection.

“However, aside from Higuain and Dybala, I get on well with all the Bianconeri forwards.”

Juventus open their Champions League campaign against Sevilla on Wednesday before the Derby D’Italia with Inter next weekend.

Pjanic: I will play wherever Allegri needs me for Juventus

The summer signing has made an underwhelming start to life in Turin but is confident

he can turn things around and admits his team cannot afford any poor performances.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/723/serie-a/2016/09/25/27877242/-?

Sep 25, 2016

Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic is happy to play wherever Massimiliano Allegri needs him and is confident his performances will improve as the season goes on.

The 26-year-old has yet to live up to the high expectations at the reigning Serie A champions following his big-money move as Allegri continues to search for his best position.

However, Pjanic sees no reason for concern just yet following his slightly underwhelming start at Juve.

"I am happy to play wherever the coach needs me," Pjanic told Sky Sport. "I can play in front of our defence, in central midfield or as an attacking midfielder.

"I have only just arrived here at Juventus and I am sure things will improve bit by bit."

Juventus received their fair share of criticism after they drew their Champions League opener against Sevilla and were beaten by arch-rivals Inter, with Pjanic acknowledging they must always be on top of their game.

"Juventus cannot afford to put in a poor performance even for 45 minutes or there will be criticism," he added.

"Allegri spoke with us after the defeat against Inter, explained what we did wrong and we immediately won the next two games."

Allegri's men will be looking to record their first Champions League win of the season when they travel to Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday, but Pjanic has warned it will not be a simple task.

"There will be a heated atmosphere against Dinamo. These games are never easy, but we obviously want to put in a good performance and win," Pjanic continued.

"We want to play well, dominate and play our own game. Expectations are very high. But it is never easy in the Champions League.

"The most important thing is to get the three points and make it out of the group in the end."

The difference between Miralem Pjanic

and Paul Pogba in Juventus' midfield

Dissecting the influences of Paul Pogba and Miralem Pjanic

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2016/10/4/13142492/

juventus-miralem-pjanic-paul-pogba-2016-serie-a-tactics-transfers

Oct 4, 2016

Juventus lost Paul Pogba, arguably their best player last season, to Manchester United in a world-record €105 million transfer this past summer. In response, they signed Gonzalo Higuain and Miralem Pjanic, the best players from their direct rival teams, Napoli and Roma, to replace Pogba's production. Pjanic is widely considered to be the direct replacement of Pogba because they were both top midfielders in Serie A.

Regarding goals and assists, Pogba and Pjanic were very similar last season. Pogba had eight goals and 12 assists for Juventus while Pjanic had 10 goals and 12 assists for Roma.

Here we compare the different playing styles of the two players and discuss how they impact Juventus tactically. Because Pjanic has only played a few matches for Juventus, there is not enough data to analyze them statistically. We will focus on two games where Juventus played against Palermo at home last season and away from home this season. The same — or very similar — opponent allows us to somewhat normalize the strength of the competition and better focus on the different contributions by both players. We will focus only on their contributions in the offensive part of the game. Also, one should not assume that Pogba or Pjanic is the only reason that influences Juventus’s playing style.

The availability of other players — such as Higuain and Claudio Marchisio — and the tactics of the opponents also have significant impacts.

Difference characteristics of Pogba and Pjanic

Although contributing a very similar number of goal and assist, Pjanic and Pogba are very different players. Many have argued that Pogba is a class box-to-box player while Pjanic is an attacking midfielder. These descriptions fit their physical characteristics. Pogba stands at 6-foot-3, robust and athletic, while Pjanic is a mobile player with an average height for a footballer (5-foot-11, 150 pounds).

However, their playing styles are not typical for the types of player people characterize them. For example, Pogba had about three dribbles per game in last season, a number that ranked him third in Serie A. This is very rare for a player with his physical characteristics. Completely opposite, as an attacking midfielder, Pjanic only had about 0.8 dribbles per game, a number that ranked him at 95th in Serie A last season. Interestingly, Pjanic is also one of the best passers in the league. He had almost 66 passes per game — with an impressive 85 percent success rate — that would rank him at 10th in the league last season. After several experimentations, Pjanic has now taken the left central midfielder position, a position that was similarly occupied by Pogba. However, the contrasting playing styles of the two players result in completely different interpretations of the same role:

Off-the-ball movements

Pogba is a player with incredible talent and all-around skills. There is almost nothing he cannot do with the ball. Although one area he can certainly improve is to learn to be effective WITHOUT the ball.

For almost 12 seconds, Pogba only stood there and watched his teammates passing the balls. He made no attempt to move to a new position to provide a better passing lane for his teammate. He was waiting for his teammates to pass him the ball. Pogba usually only moves when he has a chance to participate in an offensive move directly.

Pogba stood and watched his teammates passed the balls for eight seconds. But once Sami Khedira placed a through pass to Juan Cuadrado, Pogba immediately surged forward to the edge of the box to try to catch a pass from him.

It was very typical to have these kinds of movement/non-movement from Pogba during Juventus' offensive phase last season. Pogba is not a selfish player who does not help his teammates when he does not have the ball or a chance to score or assist. Pogba just does not know how to be productive for the team when he does not have the ball during the offensive phase, especially during the build-up. But it did not matter for Juventus last season

One of their major goals was to deliver the ball to him in an advanced position during the build-up. In fact, they WANTED him to stay further in opponent's half to create instead of dribbling in their own half. They didn’t want him to INITIATE the build-up; they wanted him to FINISHthe build-up. They didn’t need him to create better passing lanes for his teammates; they needed to create better passing lanes for him.

Pjanic is very different from Pogba in this regard. He is always moving when he is on the field to provide better passing lanes for his teammates when he does not have the ball.

Between the first time and the second time he received the pass from his teammates, for about 15 seconds Pjanic was moving in a circle to try to find a position with a better lane for his teammates. His constant movements also create space for his teammates.

His movement towards the right dragged the Palermo's midfielder with him and created some rooms for Mario Lemina to surge forward. The same Palermo midfielder now had to attack Lemina, which in turn left Pjanic completely open, facing directly to the Palermo’s defense.

Pjanic moves continuously and he moves in a very vast area. But this is still work-in-progress for Juventus and Pjanic. A major problem during the first few games was that Pjanic sometimes moved too close to the central defensive midfielder (usually Lemina). Lemina did not have the passing ranges to pass to the advanced areas consistently. He also did not prefer to surge forward when he played that role, fearing that would expose the defense line if they lost the ball. In response, Pjanic would often move back to the own half to help build-up. The result is that Pjanic would end up very close to Lemina, which compromised the build-up.

Tendency to dribble

Another big difference between Pogba and Pjanic is the way they use the ball.

Pogba immediately surged forward when he received the ball. Once he encountered a Palermo player, the first thing he did was to try to dribble past him. He kept the ball until two other Palermo’s players joined to tackle him. On the other hand, Pjanic delivered a long pass to Higuain immediately after receiving a pass, even before a Palermo player came to tackle him.

Another example:

Here both players received a ball in a similar area. Pogba immediately dribbled and advanced toward the left sideline. He waited until Patrice Evra started to move forward and delivered a perfect pass toward the byline. In contrast, once received the pass, Pjanic did not seem even to want to touch the ball and immediately gave a dangerous pass toward the byline to Alex Sandro.

The biggest different influence that the two players have concerning tactics is how the positional plays develop. With Pogba, you want to play off his dribble. You want to play close attention to him when he has the ball (just like Evra did) because he can drag any player away physically or mentally (their attentions) with his dribble. It does not matter whether you are close to or far away from him. With his excellent passing range, you only need to prepare yourself in a dangerous position. He will be able to find a way to pass you the ball even with defenders tackling or marking him. Developing positional plays like this is easier but in some ways more predictable.

Playing with Pjanic will be very different. You can’t play off his dribble because he does not like to retain the ball. Developing positional plays around him take more preparations and works because his teammates need to understand his movements. You cannot just focus on where he moves. You need to know how his movements affect the spacing of the opponent’s defense. You need to make a decision on whether to pass to him or the teammate that is now left open by his movement. Developing positional plays like this is more difficult because you need to make players understand each other both spatially and temporally. It will take a lot of training and practice. But it will be more unpredictable for the opponents to handle.

Allegri's latest tactical adjustment to use Pjanic

Juventus manager Max Allegri has tried to use Pjanic in different positions since the start of the season. He has played as a defensive midfielder, as a left-central midfielder or as a Mezzala. He is still trying to figure out the best way to integrate him into the team and utilizes his talents. As mention earlier, Pjanic is excellent at creating spaces using his movement. His understanding of positioning and spacing is high-rated. To take advantage of that ability, Allegri makes a tactical adjustment to instruct Pjanic to play as a ball receiver that surveys the gap in the opponent's defensive line.

Shortly after Hernanes received a pass from Dani Alves, Pjanic immediately surged through between two Dinamo Zagreb defenders. Had Hernanes decided to pass to him instead of took a shot; Pjanic would be 1 vs. 1 with the keeper.

Immediately after Paulo Dybala received a pass from Dani Alves, Pjanic ran past two Zagreb’s defenders. For a moment, he was onside and completely open.

These are three examples where Pjanic tried to catch a long overhead pass from Leonardo Bonucci. The last one led to the opening goal.

First example:

Second example:

Third example:

Plays like this happened at least six or seven times in the first half. Therefore it must be designed and instructed by the coach before the game. Pjanic had gotten himself to be onside and free of defenders in many of these occasions. This positioning ability is something that Pogba doesn't have. Having Hernanes in the line-up also facilitated this tactic. With Hernanes’ excellent passing ranges, Pjanic did not have to help build-up a lot of the time. It will be a major weapon once Juventus perfect the timing of these movements.

Conclusion

Pogba and Pjanic are players with different skill sets. They influence the tactics of the team in very different ways. Both players have excellent passing ranges. Pogba creates space for himself and his teammates using his athleticism and skill while Pjanic creates space through his movement and positioning. Only time will tell which way is better. It may also be a matter of taste.

With Pogba, you have this:

With Pjanic, you have this:

Pjanic: ‘Juve breathe winning’

http://www.football-italia.net/92683/pjanic-‘juve-breathe-winning’?

Oct 9, 2016

Miralem Pjanic has noticed the winning mentality that Juventus ‘breathe’ since his move to Turin.

The 26-year-old joined the Old Lady from Serie A rivals Roma during the summer and has claimed two goals and three assists in all competitions so far this season.

“When I arrived at Vinovo I discovered this special mentality,” Pjanic said to Gazzetta Dello Sport. “This will to win that Juve breathe and you feel in every match.

"All the new players are fitting in well."

Despite his big-money transfer from the Giallorossi, the Bosnian started the season on the bench. However, he believes that it was the right decision due to his lack of fitness at the time.

“It’s not that I struggled, I just wasn’t in good shape physically and we preferred to not take pointless risks.

“Then, little by little, I felt better and better, even though it’s true that my preparation was tough.

“I had a different job compared to what I was used to at Roma, it took me a little bit of time to adapt."

Pjanic then denied that Juve's quest to win a sixth successive Scudetto is already a formality.

“Are Juventus running away with it? No, absolutely not. The season is long and it will also be tough.

“There are a lot of teams who will fight until the end, who will not give anything up.

“Roma and Napoli definitely will, but I also include Inter who have a lot of great players.

“We definitely have a great desire to bring home the sixth consecutive title."

Juventus once again lead Italy’s top flight and are heavy favourites to win yet another domestic crown, but one of the key questions surrounding Max Allegri’s team is whether they can translate this dominance at home into Champions League success.

“First we have to get through the group, then from the Round of 16 it’s like playing a game of poker.”

Pjanic: 'Dzeko will lead Roma'

http://www.football-italia.net/92690/pjanic-dzeko-will-lead-roma

Oct 9, 2016

Miralem Pjanic trusts this can be the right season for Roma striker and Bosnia teammate Edin Dzeko to shine.

The 30-year-old centre-forward has already scored five goals with three assists in seven Serie A appearances this term.

“I am not remotely surprised by how well he has started this term and I am very happy for him,” Juventus midfielder Pjanic told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He is coming off a campaign in which, perhaps, his characteristics were not made the most of. It is also true that this season Edin seems to believe in himself more, he visibly has more confidence now.

“I’ve known this Dzeko for a long time, he is a great striker who can also create chances all by himself. You’ll see how many goals he’ll score for Roma this year.

“After all, he always did score plenty of goals, so it’s not as if he could just forget how to find the net.”

Pjanic: Everybody wants to see Juventus lose

The former Roma midfielder is not taking anything for granted despite his side's

four point lead at the top of the table, while affirming Juve are on the right path.

http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/3276/serie-a/2016/10/09/28317992/-?

Oct 9, 2016

Miralem Pjanic believes Juventus' task of winning a sixth consecutive Serie A title is made tougher by the desperation their rivals have to end the Turin club's dominance.

Massimiliano Allegri's men were beaten 2-1 by Inter on matchday three, but are nonetheless already sitting in pole position to successfully defend their title.

They hold a four-point lead over second-placed Napoli, but Pjanic is taking nothing for granted.

"The most consistent team will win the Scudetto. We have a huge desire to bring home the sixth title in a row. But we all know it will not be easy," Pjanic told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We cannot afford to let up. But our goal is to win it. The competition is long and hard. Everybody cannot wait to see Juventus stop winning. It will not be easy for us.

"There are a number of teams that will be challenging us right until the end. Roma and Napoli will definitely be there, but I am also keeping an eye on Inter, who have a lot of great players.

"The team is playing well. We sit top of the table in Serie A and in the Champions League. So we are on the right path. Even if there is always room for improvement."

Miralem Pjanic: 'Juventus face title fight'

http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/juventus/news/pjanic-juventus-face-title-fight_282950.html

Oct 9, 2016

Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic has insisted that his team face a battle to lift a sixth consecutive league title.

The Old Lady have lifted the Serie A crown in each of the last five seasons and currently lead the way in Italy's top flight - sitting on 18 points at the top of the table, four clear of second-place Napoli.

Pjanic is confident that Juve will triumph once again this season, but the summer signing from Roma is expecting a tough challenge from a number of clubs.

"The team is playing well. We sit top of the table in Serie A and in the Champions League. So we are on the right path. Even if there is always room for improvement."

Juventus have won six of their seven league games this season, with their only defeat coming away to Inter Milan on September 18.

Miralem Pjanic reckons Juventus' Serie A rivals can't wait to see the Bianconerifall from the top of the league this season.

The Old Lady have won five consecutive Serie A titles and once again lead all challengers in Italy's top division this campaign.

However Pjanic, who controversially joined the Turin side from Scudettochallengers Roma this summer, cautioned that the champions have yet to be decided.

"The most consistent team will win the Scudetto. We have a huge desire to bring home the sixth title in a row. But we all know it will not be easy," Pjanic told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Pjanic: 'Thank you Roma, now Juve'

http://www.football-italia.net/92836/pjanic-thank-you-roma-now-juve?

Oct 12, 2016

Miralem Pjanic discussed his ambitions with Juventus, gratitude for Roma and why Zinedine Zidane was “my idol.”

The midfielder sat down with FIFA.com to go over his career, including this summer’s move to Turin.

“The first year is always the most difficult. You must adapt to the new team and it’s not easy, especially considering at Juve the objective is to always win.

“Our aim is to repeat the triumphs of last season and go as far as possible in the Champions League. I am at a huge club, everything is perfect and I hope to help the team continue to win.”

Next week Pjanic will return to his former club Olympique Lyonnais in the Champions League.

“I grew up in Luxembourg, arriving when I was a year old. I grew up on bread and football, my idol was Zidane. I was fortunate to choose Metz as the club where I was raised, as I had various different options at the time, but their philosophy attracted me.

“At the age of 17, I had the chance to make my debut in the first team and it was wonderful, then Lyon arrived.

“I had the best years of my career at Roma and got to know some truly wonderful Coaches. Without doubt Roma will remain in my heart, as I have extraordinary memories of those five years and the club was fundamental for my growth.

“Now I am at Juve and hope to help the club win, being as useful as I was for Roma.”

Pjanic hits out at Roma

http://www.football-italia.net/92900/pjanic-hits-out-roma?

Oct 14, 2016

Juventus star Miralem Pjanic has hit out at former club Roma, saying that they 'didn't keep their promises'.

The 26-year-old made the controversial move from Roma to Juventus this summer, and he explained his decision based on the fact that football careers 'don't last forever'.

“They made many promises and I always kept my word with them signing contract extensions," the midfielder told La Repubblica. "They always said they’d build a competitive team for the Serie A title, but we won nothing in five years.

"I am 26, a career doesn’t last forever and Juventus had been tracking me for years. I talked about it with [Luciano] Spalletti, [Francesco] Totti and [Daniele] De Rossi.

"Francesco told me he was sad and that he’d have preferred me to stay, but he understood I had to take the path I wanted. I love Roma and the city, but it was time to go.

“When I became aware that Juventus wanted me, I said yes straight away. It was the same when I moved to Roma when Luis Enrique and [Walter] Sabatini wanted to show me how much they believed in me.

“Before each game we used to play against Juve [Giorgio] Chiellini was telling me: ‘I’ll try not to hit you today’. But no way, he always did. It’s better to have him as a teammate.”

Pjanic the Apprentice

A footballer with the soul of an artist, Mina Rzouki looks at

what Miralem Pjanic has learned as he returns to face Lyon.

http://www.football-italia.net/93044/pjanic-apprentice?

Oct 17, 2016

Miralem Pjanic comes full circle on Tuesday when Juventus visit Olympique Lyonnais, the club where he took his first big step up the career ladder.

It was in the OL jersey as an 18-year-old that he stayed behind to study Juninho Pernambucano’s free kicks in training and practice with the master. Even making only five starts that first season, you can’t buy an apprenticeship like that.

"I've practiced about 10,000 free kicks from every single position on the pitch. It takes more than 10 years to learn," Pjanic explained, keen to stress his devotion to the craft. A man who speaks six languages fluently is someone who can be relied upon to do his homework.

Eventually when Juninho left in 2009, the teenager took on the mantle, complete with Number 8 Lyon jersey.

“I called Juni before the season began to ask his permission to wear his shirt. He told me not to worry about it and to not put too much expectation on my shoulders.”

Pjanic’s life and career has been a series of stepping stones, of apprenticeships and learning curves. At the age of 26, the move to Juventus suggests he’s ready to put all of that study together and forge his own way.

Born in war-torn Bosnia to a professional footballer father, the Pjanic family moved to Luxembourg to seek a better life. Practising his dribbling and free kick skills against the garage door, Pjanic was encouraged but never pressured to follow in his dad’s footsteps. His love of the ball and great ambition, combined with his parents’ mature outlook on life, led him to FC Metz, a club located only 50km away from Luxembourg, where the family resided.

“It wasn’t difficult to convince them,” explained Carlo Molinari, President of the club. “They realised Metz provided a perfect launching pad for their son’s career. They were familiar with the house and the training centre and knew the kids were supervised academically.”

A club renowned for developing many great players, Pjanic integrated well within his new surroundings, safe in the knowledge he wasn’t too far from home. Described as a marvellous player to coach, Francis De Taddeo, head of the training centre, also noted how strict the youngster was with himself, how ambitious he was for his age and how much he looked to learn from those who surrounded him.

Boasting vision and intelligence, Pjanic’s composed demeanour and fierce ambition drove him to further his footballing intelligence slowly and steadily.

Tracked by the biggest clubs in the world, from Arsenal to Bayern Munich, the 18-year-old midfielder chose Lyon, a phenomenal team at the time, but one that would have the patience to develop the young prodigy.

Surrounded by better players and forced to adapt to the pressures of a big club, Pjanic worked day and night to hone his craft. He became, in the great Juninho Pernambucano’s words, the best free-kick taker in the world today.

Scoring the vital goal that saw Lyon defeat Real Madrid to progress into the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2010, the player then moved on to Roma. Almost mirroring his idol Zinedine Zidane’s path in life, he knew that Italy would help him acquire the physical and mental strength to progress his career.

Visionary, elegant and intelligent, Pjanic was regularly treated to a symphony of compliments by Italy’s many newspaper columnists. The fans may have turned on him on occasion and inconsistent performances did cause frustration, but he was a player who could resolve the type of game that one can find in Serie A.

Asked how Roma overcame a defensively tough Parma, Rudi Garcia replied: "We gave Pjanic the ball and watched him score a genius free kick."

While he was a master at set pieces, he was never more beautiful to watch than when he scored from open play. Gliding past Sulley Muntari, evading Riccardo Montolivo’s attempt to tackle before manipulating his way past Adil Rami, that sumptuous goal Pjanic scored against Milan in April 2014 will forever be etched into the mind of every footballing pundit. His mesmeric talent enchanted even the most neutral of fans.

Last season, no player provided more assists than the Bosnian in Serie A. In addition to scoring 10 goals, he also produced the second highest number of key passes per game. Roma depended on him to beautify their game and he seemed happy, but the chances of silverware remained slim. It was like studying at a university with a great nightlife, but not the best degree.

It’s amazing to consider a player of such talent has lifted no trophies at all in his career. The only prize he ever received was individual, as Bosnia-Herzegovina Player of the Year for 2014.

The desire to further his footballing education and develop within the halls of a club used to winning led him to Juventus. “When I arrived at Vinovo I discovered this special mentality. This will to win that Juve breathe and you feel in every match.”

Now Miro takes all he has learned and returns to Lyon, where he hopes to show old friends a few new tricks.
