Basile: 'Higuain soiled himself'

https://www.football-italia.net/120229/basile-higuain-soiled-himself

Apr 21, 2018

Former Argentina Coach Alfio Basile blamed Gonzalo Higuain for their 2014 World Cup Final defeat to Germany. “He soiled himself.”

The phrase is in his new autobiography, titled ‘Generacion Lio’ and the Juventus striker does not come out well from this book.

“Of all the players, the one that was most singled out by the people for blame was Gonzalo Higuain. They do not want him in their squad because when that World Cup is remembered, the chance he missed at the start is what cost us the title.

“The truth is that it’s difficult to explain what happened to him, because suddenly he was unmarked, had the ball at his feet and was 20 metres from goal with every option open to him and could place the ball anywhere, but instead the mist descended and he fired it wide.

“It’s not good to say that he soiled himself, but that’s basically what happened. He was weighed down by the responsibility of realising he was about to score the goal that gave Argentina the World Cup and would gain immortality.”

Basile also bitterly criticises colleagues Jorge Sampaoli, Marcelo Bielsa and Diego Armando Maradona.

Higuain and €50m for Icardi?

https://www.football-italia.net/122062/higuain-and-€50m-icardi

May 29, 2018

The Corriere della Sera claims Juventus have offered Gonzalo Higuain plus €50m for Mauro Icardi, with Inter prepared to listen.

The rumours of Juve trying to snatch the Capocannoniere away to Turin have been circulating for a few days now.

Icardi has a release clause worth €110m, but it is valid only from July 1-20 and to clubs outside of Italy.

According to the Corriere della Sera newspaper, Juve’s lawyers are studying the Inter contract to see if there’s a way they can activate the clause regardless.

If not, the offer on the table is €50m cash plus Higuain, who they value at €60m, taking the total up to €110m.

The real surprise in this story is that Inter and Icardi are prepared to listen.

Icardi’s wife and representative, Wanda Nara, said last week that they will either work out a new contract with Inter or move on.

While Higuain is going to the 2018 World Cup with Argentina, Icardi has been left behind, despite scoring 29 Serie A goals in 34 games this season.

Higuain, who is five years older than Icardi, scored 23 in 50 competitive matches for Juve.

Higuain: ‘Happy at Juventus.
Right not to go to Israel’

https://www.football-italia.net/122527/higuain-‘happy-juventus-but…’

https://www.football-italia.net/122523/higuain-‘right-not-go-israel’

Jun 6, 2018

Gonzalo Higuain points out “I have a contract with Juventus, and no-one has told me any different” but calls the Premier League “the most beautiful in the world”.

It has been rumoured that the Bianconeri will look to cash in on the striker this summer, as with amortisation they can break even if they sell him for over €60m, two years after his arrival from Napoli.

“I have a contract with Juventus and no-one has told me any different,” Higuain shrugged, speaking to ESPN in Argentina.

“I’m very calm, my soul remains in Turin for now.

“The Premier League? Of course I like it, it’s the most beautiful league in the world and I’d like to play in it.”

Higuain was also asked about Gianluigi Buffon and Paulo Dybala.

“It was wonderful to play with Buffon, and to be his friend. All I can say is he’s a great man on and off the pitch. He told me he’ll watch us, he’ll certainly have a soft spot for Argentina.

“As for Dybala, he suffered badly when he wasn’t called-up, but now he’s happy, calm and wants to give his best.”

Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain believes “it was right” for Argentina not to go to Israel for a friendly.

It emerged last night that the Albiceleste had been forced to cancel the World Cup warm-up match, as neither the players nor Coach Jorge Sampaoli wanted to go.

There were protests about the decision to schedule the friendly, due to the situation in Gaza, and even threats of violence against the players.

“It was right not to go to Israel,” Higuain told Clarin.

“In the end the right thing was done, safety and common sense come first.”

Chelsea ‘make Higuain contact’

https://www.football-italia.net/122565/chelsea-make-higuain-contact

Jun 7, 2018

Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Gonzalo Higuain’s agent-brother over a possible transfer for the Juventus striker.

According to Sportitalia, their enquiry to Nicolas comes despite Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia being in Russia to decide the club’s next Coach with owner Roman Abramovich.

The striker admitted as recently as Tuesday that the Premier League was ‘the most beautiful League in the world’, while Juve have been linked with bringing back Alvaro Morata.

Sarri has Chelsea shopping list

https://www.football-italia.net/122752/sarri-has-chelsea-shopping-list

Jun 10, 2018

Italian sources are confident Maurizio Sarri will be at Chelsea next week, eager to bring Piotr Zielinski, Gonzalo Higuain, Elseid Hysaj and Kalidou Koulibaly with him.

The Coach is still under contract with Napoli, even if he was fired to make way for Carlo Ancelotti, as the deal must be terminated by mutual consent under Italian rules.

Although the €8m release clause has expired, President Aurelio De Laurentiis is still demanding a similar payment to release the highly-respected tactician.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sportitalia and more, negotiations will begin in earnest on Monday and be completed next week.

After that, Sarri is requesting several players familiar with his style of football, which will be especially necessary considering most of his staff has remained at Napoli with Ancelotti.

They are believed to be Albania international full-back Hysaj (who already followed Sarri from Empoli to Napoli three years ago), Polish midfielder Zielinski, centre-back Koulibaly (who alone is valued at €100m) and Juventus striker Higuain.

When he was under Sarri’s orders, Higuain set a new all-time Serie A record for goals scored in a single season, but left for Juve when his €90m release clause was activated.

The Argentina international always maintained his fond rapport with the Coach, instead blaming President De Laurentiis for the exit.

CdS: Milan thinking of Higuain

https://www.football-italia.net/123062/cds-milan-thinking-higuain

Jun 16, 2018

Gonzalo Higuain is the alternative to Alvaro Morata if Milan keep their Europa League spot, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

There have been growing reports that Higuain has been placed on the market by Juventus and is linked with Chelsea, should they appoint Maurizio Sarri.

A move within Serie A would seem unlikely, especially with a €60m price-tag, but the Corriere dello Sport sees Pipita as a cheaper and more experienced alternative to first choice Morata.

It all depends, of course, on keeping their Europa League spot after the verdict on their Financial Fair Play irregularities.

President Yonghong Li is currently in negotiations to sell some of his shares to a new investor, believed to be from America or Malaysia.

Argentina 'coup' against Sampaoli?

https://www.football-italia.net/123442/argentina-coup-against-sampaoli

Jun 23, 2018

There are extraordinary reports of a ‘coup’ within the Argentina squad to oust Coach Jorge Sampaoli and he could be fired before the Nigeria game.

The Seleccion are in crisis after a 1-1 World Cup draw with Iceland and dismal 3-0 defeat to Croatia.

They simply must beat Nigeria in the final group game, but Sampaoli might no longer be on the bench come Tuesday.

According to TyC Sports, Federation President Claudio Tapia told Sampaoli that he no longer has any control over the players.

It remains to be seen now if he will resign, get the sack or continue on until at least the match with Nigeria.

Sampaoli has come under fire for his decisions and the seeming lack of tactical organisation in the side.

His notes were pictured during training today and seemed to suggest massive changes for the Nigeria game, including a move to four at the back and bringing Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain into the starting XI with Leo Messi and Angel Di Maria.

There is still no room for Paulo Dybala or Roma centre-back Federico Fazio.

The most notable difference is dropping goalkeeper Willy Caballero after his howler against Croatia, starting Franco Armani.

Argentina (probable): Armani; Salvio (Mercado), Otamendi, Rojo, Tagliafico; Enzo Perez, Mascherano, Banega; Messi, Higuain, Di Maria

Higuain: 'Happy at Juventus'

https://www.football-italia.net/124013/higuain-happy-juventus

Jul 4, 2018

Gonzalo Higuain would relish Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Juventus, said his brother Nicolas, and isn't heading to Chelsea. “We haven’t spoken to other clubs.”

The potential signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid for €100m coincides with reports of Chelsea making a €60m bid for Pipita.

“We don’t know anything yet. He was teammates with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid, but they haven’t spoken about it. It would be fantastic obviously, especially if he made a strike partnership with Gonzalo,” agent Nicolas told Sky Sport Italia.

“They know each other so well, as they played about 80 games together. If Juve can do it, this will be fantastic, just spectacular. It’s hardly new for them to work together.”

Yet Higuain has been heavily linked with a move away from Juventus to Chelsea, where he’d reunite with ex-Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri.

“At the moment we haven’t spoken to any other clubs, as we have a three-year contract with Juventus. He is very happy in the city, at the club, with the Coach and the tactical system.

“All these things people talked about other clubs are just rumours, we haven’t spoken to anybody. At the moment, he has three years on his contract with Juventus.

“Everyone knows his rapport with Sarri is wonderful and he sees him as a football father, but as far as I know, Sarri hasn’t even signed for Chelsea yet. Secondly, Gonzalo is happy in Turin and hasn’t received any indication from Juve, so I see no real chance of leaving.”

Nicolas was asked about reports of clashes with Coach Max Allegri and didn’t exactly deny them.

“I heard about some argument in the locker room, but there’s a code of football, it all stays in the locker room, so he hasn’t told me anything.”

No Higuain offers received

https://www.football-italia.net/124346/no-higuain-offers-received

Jul 12, 2018

Juventus are open to selling Gonzalo Higuain, but Sky Sport Italia claim there are no offers and only Chelsea are interested.

The forward was signed from Napoli for his €94m release clause in the summer of 2016.

However, his position is in serious doubt now that Cristiano Ronaldo has arrived from Real Madrid.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Bianconeri want €60m for Higuain, but have received no proposals.

Only Chelsea would be interested in taking the Argentina international, though they won’t make any approach until after Maurizio Sarri has been appointed.

It would be a reunion for the Coach and hitman, who worked together with great success at Napoli and remain close.

Higuain accepts Chelsea but…

https://www.football-italia.net/124368/higuain-accepts-chelsea-but…

Jul 12, 2018

Gonzalo Higuain is reportedly open to joining Chelsea, but he wants a high salary, as well as a bonus from Juventus.

The striker is expected to leave the Bianconeri after the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, and the Blues appear to be in pole position for his signature.

The Premier League side are about to appoint Maurizio Sarri as their new manager, the man under whom Pipita enjoyed his best season.

According to calciomercato.com, Higuain has made it clear he is open to a move to Stamford Bridge, but that doesn’t mean a deal is close.

The Argentine would want a salary of at least €7m net per season, given that he earns €7.5m per year in Turin.

In addition he wants a loyalty bonus from Juve as a kind of golden handshake, otherwise he could simply refuse every offer to leave.

Chelsea boss Sarri to raid Serie A

With Chelsea set to appoint Maurizio Sarri, the new Coach has Jorginho, so is now targeting Gonzalo Higuain, Daniele Rugani and Alisson Becker.

Antonio Conte was formally dismissed on Friday with a terse statement, although the decision had been communicated to manager and players on Thursday afternoon.

Sarri is due to be signed on a two-year contract with option for a third today, believed to be worth €6m per season.

The negotiations with Napoli were finally concluded in a double deal, as Chelsea get both Sarri and midfielder Jorginho for €57m plus €8m in bonuses.

According to multiple sources, including Sky Sport Italia, the former Napoli boss intends to raid Serie A for reinforcements at Stamford Bridge.

The most obvious targets are at Juventus, as both striker Higuain and centre-back Rugani worked with Sarri before at Napoli and Empoli respectively.

It’s believed Argentina international forward Higuain would be available for €60m, while defender Rugani has a price-tag of €40m.

As for Alisson, Roma have so far resisted all offers for the Brazilian goalkeeper, including interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Sky Sport Italia claim the Giallorossi would only be prepared to let Alisson go for a fee of €70m.

Milan discuss Higuain

https://www.football-italia.net/124839/milan-discuss-higuain

Jul 23, 2018

Sky Italia reports that Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta discussed Gonzalo Higuain with incoming Milan director Leonardo.

The former Rossoneri player will be confirmed as technical director in the coming days, following the takeover by Elliott Management.

According to Sky’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Marotta phoned Leonardo to congratulate him on his new role, but the subject of Higuain did come up.

At the moment an official offer is still a long way off, and the Diavolo would have to sell players before financing a move for Pipita.

However, the phone calls does confirm that the Diavolo are interested in the Juve striker.

Higuain close to Milan

https://www.football-italia.net/125444/higuain-close-milan

Jul 27, 2018

Multiple reports state Milan and Juventus have agreed a deal for Gonzalo Higuain, so the decision now passes to the striker.

Pipita is surplus to requirements in Turin after the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, and has been heavily linked with the Rossoneri in recent days.

Tonight Sky Italia reported a basic agreement between the two clubs for a €15m loan, a report backed up by Alfredo Pedulla.

Now Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting the same thing, stating that the Diavolo will be obliged to buy Higuain outright next summer.

The stumbling block is the striker’s wages, as he doesn’t want to leave Juve and certainly won’t cut his €7.5m salary to do so.

Sky believes his brother and agent, Nicolas Higuain, will be in Italy in the coming days to try and work out a deal.

Higuain to hold Juventus talks

https://www.football-italia.net/125489/higuain-hold-juventus-talks

Jul 29, 2018

Gonzalo Higuain and his agent will be in Italy today, amid discussion over the Juventus striker’s future.

The Argentine international has been linked with both Milan and Chelsea, and it appears the Bianconeri are willing to sell him.

Higuain is expected back at training tomorrow, and both he and his agent, brother Nicolas, will be in Italy today.

Sky reports that there will be talks over Pipita’s future, but he doesn’t want to leave Turin and will only do so if he gets a higher salary elsewhere.

Higuain agent met Juventus

https://www.football-italia.net/125530/higuain-agent-met-juventus

Jul 30, 2018

Gonzalo Higuain's agent reportedly met Juventus earlier today, and could be contacted by Milan in the coming hours.

The Rossoneri are keen to sign the striker, who has been put up for sale after the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Following reports this morning that Nicolas Higuain, Pipita’s brother and agent, would meet the Old Lady to discuss his future, Sky believes that meeting has already taken place.

Furthermore, it’s possible that Milan could make contact with the agent today to discuss a potential deal.

If that happens it would indicate that Higuain has given the go-ahead to a transfer, having initially preferred to remain in Turin.

Higuain slows Milan-Juve mega-deal

https://www.football-italia.net/125592/higuain-slows-milan-juve-mega-deal

Aug 1, 2018

Gonzalo Higuain still does not want to move on loan and is demanding €9m-a-season, slowing down a move to Milan.

The 30-year-old appeared poised to confirm a switch to San Siro yesterday after Juventus and the Rossoneri came to an agreement over a €54m deal, which would also see defenders Leonardo Bonucci and Mattia Caldara move in opposite directions.

However, Italian media widely reports that the Argentine forward is unhappy with two aspects of the deal.

Firstly, he is adamant that he wants a permanent transfer rather than a loan. The €54m agreement in place is for an initial year-long €18m loan, followed by Milan having the option to sign him permanently next summer for a further €36m.

And despite Milan general manager Leonardo explaining to Higuain that the inclusion of the loan deal is simply so the Rossoneri can satisfy Financial Fair Play regulations this year, the former Napoli man still has his doubts.

Furthermore, Higuain reportedly wants wages of €9m-a-season to make the switch to San Siro.

He currently earns around €7.5m-a-year at Juve and wants an increase to reflect his importance to his new club.

Further talks are planned today and it is still hoped the deal will be concluded soon, given that everything is in place other than Higuain’s approval.

The Caldara-Bonucci swap is tethered to this transfer and will not happen without it, with Milan insisting they get the promising centre-back as part of the deal.

Gattuso: ‘Nothing to say on Higuain’

https://www.football-italia.net/125597/gattuso-‘nothing-say-higuain’

Aug 1, 2018

Milan Coach Gennaro Gattuso refuses to comment on the possibility of his club signing Gonzalo Higuain.

The Rossoneri have an agreement in place with Juventus to bring in the Argentine – although the 31-year-old still needs to be convinced to move on an initial loan deal.

But despite the San Siro club seemingly being on the verge of a major signing, Gattuso would only discuss the players he currently has available on his side’s pre-season tour of the United States.

“There isn’t much to say. There are directors there who are working on it,” the Diavolo boss said after Milan’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

“He is a player who has scored goals for many years. I have nothing else to say.

“When he arrives I’ll say what I think. At this moment, I’ll talk about the players I have available – so Cutrone, Kalinic and Andre Silva.”

Higuain: Chelsea didn’t want me, Ronaldo…

Guarda la gallery

https://www.football-italia.net/125699/higuain-chelsea-didnt-want-me-ronaldo

Aug 3, 2018

Milan new boy Gonzalo Higuain has claimed that ‘the only person who wanted me from Chelsea was Maurizio Sarri’.

Chelsea had been heavily linked with Higuain, given new boss Sarri had got the best out of the striker at Napoli, but the striker suggested the Blues did not do enough to sign him.

“The esteem I hold Sarri in isn’t new,” he continued at his official unveiling.

“However, the only person who wanted me there was him. Everyone wanted me here.

“That’s the best thing for a player, the motivation and belief to bring you here.”

The 30-year-old then insisted he did not regret passing up the opportunity of playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Juve, before revealing the ‘goose bumps’ he felt at Milan’s training ground for the first time.

“I know Reina well, I’ve played here for five years and I think Milan have a great team,” he added.

“Milanello has everything a player wants to see: lots of pitches, history and football in its purest form. It gives you goose bumps. Milanello is something special.

“I played with Biglia for 10 years in the national team, I hold Lucas in great esteem and it’s great to see him again.

“I’ve already played with Ronaldo, so I’m only happy about this new challenge.”

The Argentine was finally asked about who would score more goals in 2018-19 out of him and Inter rival Mauro Icardi

“You already know the answer!” he concluded.

Higuain: Only wanted Juve

Higuain svela: 'Ecco perché ho scelto il numero 21'

https://www.football-italia.net/144103/higuain-only-wanted-juve

Sep 12, 2019

Gonzalo Higuain says he had ‘clear ideas’ about staying at Juventus and that his daughter was behind his decision to wear No 21.

Higuain was expected to be moved on by Juve over the summer after Chelsea passed up their option to buy, with Roma heavily linked.

However, the striker has since been reunited with Maurizio Sarri in Turin, replacing Mario Mandzukic in attack.

“As soon as I returned to Turin, I had clear ideas. I wanted to stay at Juventus,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Honestly, no-one told me anything when I returned. I came back to work here, to try to show my worth.

“They’re a great team, with a big fan base. They’re a great club, so I’m happy to be here.”

The 31-year-old was previously the Bianconeri’s No 9 but switched to 21 on his return.

“It was my choice. I decided to change and switch to 21, which is the day my daughter was born.

“It’s also a little way to take her with me in every game. It was a decision made from the heart and it’s bringing me luck. That’s the truth about why I chose 21.”

Higuain played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid between 2009 and 2013, and the pair are back together.

“I hadn’t played with Cristiano for many years and when I stopped playing with him, he was younger.

“Now I’ve found a more complete player, who has grown in terms of ambition, trying to win everything and set new records.

“Honestly, I’m very happy to have found him again.”

Juventus could be without Gonzalo Higuain for this weekend’s trip to SPAL, as he skipped training today with back pain.

Pipita is suffering from lumbago, a condition that flares up occasionally, and a statement from the Bianconeri medical staff confirmed he will be monitored on a daily basis. .....

Higuain leaves quarantine

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor higuain juventus 2020

Mar 19, 2020

According to La Repubblica and La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gonzalo Higuain 'escaped' quarantine and flew to Argentina, despite two Juventus teammates testing positive for coronavirus.

La Repubblica’s online edition claims that police stopped Higuain at the Caselle Airport in Turin as he tried to board a private jet, where he showed them a test that confirmed he was negative for COVID-19.

However, as the disease has such a long incubation period and two teammates – Daniele Rugani and Blaise Matuidi – tested positive, Higuain should be ordered to stay in self-isolation for at least another week. ......

Higuain's mother seriously ill

Higuain, la rabbia del fratello: "Mamma ha un cancro, abbiate rispetto"

Mar 21, 2020

Gonzalo Higuain’s mother is reportedly very ill, which was the reason the striker flew home to Argentina this week, according to CNN Radio Argentina.

The Juventus hitman, along with Rodrigo Bentancur, left Turin to fly back to South America several days ago, with reports at first believing the pair had ‘escaped’ Italy in the midst of the Coronavirus.

This turned out to be false, and indeed the pair got permission from the club to fly home.

Now CNN Radio Argentina suggests that Higuain’s mother is in very poor health, and this is the reason the 32-year-old flew home. .....
