Saudi Arabian Supercoppa?

https://www.football-italia.net/122458/saudi-arabian-supercoppa

Jun 5, 2018

The Lega Serie A will today decide when the Supercoppa Italiana between Juventus and Milan will be played, with Saudi Arabia the likely host.

The Bianconeri won both Serie A and the Coppa Italia, so the beaten cup finalists will take them on for the Super Cup.

Today the Lega will decide when the game will be played, and calciomercato.com believes it will be January.

Furthermore, the website reports, the game is likely to be played in Saudi Arabia, with talks at an advanced stage.

The deal would be worth around €7m, with 45 per cent each for the two clubs and 10 per cent to the Lega Serie A.

Jul 23, 2018

Juventus are set to jet off for their pre-season tour of the United States, with Cristiano Ronaldo not due to start work at the club until after 30th July.

The Old Lady face fixtures against German champions Bayern Munich, Portuguese outfit Benfica and Ronaldo’s former club Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup.

They also have a match lined up against an MLS All Star side on August 2nd.

Max Allegri and his squad headed to Turin’s Caselle airport this morning and are set to depart within the coming hour.

As well as Ronaldo, the Serie A champions are without Gonzalo Higuain, Douglas Costa, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pablo Dybala, Blaise Matuidi and Mario Mandzukic – all of whom featured in the knockout stages of this summer’s World Cup.

Rather than join up with the squad in the States, Juve's World Cup contingent will begin their pre-season preparations at the club's Continassa base as they await the return of their teammates.

Juventus squad for ICC 2018: Szczesny, De Sciglio, Chiellini, Benatia, Pjanic, Khedira, Marchisio, Alex Sandro, Caldara, Barzagli, Perin, Joao Cancelo, Pinsoglio, Emre Can, Rugani, Betuatto, Del Favero, Bernardeschi, Fernandes, Macek, Kastanos, Clemenza, Pereira, Beltrame, Favilli, Di Pardo, Fagioli

Juve: B team in Serie C

https://www.football-italia.net/125704/juve-b-team-serie-c

Aug 3, 2018

Juventus have become the first club in Italy to have a B team admitted into Serie C.

It comes after Serie D sides Prato and Como had their applications rejected by the FIGC, letting Juve’s reserve side make history as one of the three sides taking the places of Bari, Cesena and Avellino.

“Neither Prato nor Como have been admitted to Serie C season 2018-2019,” read the federation’s statement.

“The FIGC’s extraordinary commissioner Roberto Fabbricini examined the application submitted by the two clubs and given, in the light of the checks carried out, the aforementioned clubs did not meet all the prescribed requirements, he rejected both requests.

“Cavese, Imolese and Juventus’ B team have been admitted instead.”

Mauro Zironelli, who was due to take over Bari before their bankruptcy after Mestre were exiled from the third tier, will lead the team on their maiden voyage in League football.

Ronaldo set for Juventus debut

https://www.football-italia.net/126054/ronaldo-set-juventus-debut

Aug 12, 2018

Cristiano Ronaldo will make his first appearance in a Juventus jersey today in the traditional Villar Perosa in-house friendly.

The record signing at over €100m plus bonuses only recently started training after an extended summer vacation due to the World Cup.

He will be given his debut in a Bianconeri shirt this afternoon in the tiny Turin town of Villar Perosa, which has only 4,000 residents.

Juventus traditionally begin their season here in a game between the senior squad and the youth team, known as Juve A-Juve B, and have done since 1955.

It is a big event with all the club directors and patrons attending, but even more so this year that Ronaldo is the centre of attention.

The match kicks off at 17.00 CET - 16.00 UK time (15.00 GMT).

CR7 gave an extensive interview to Juventus TV yesterday, explaining why he made the decision to come to Turin.

Elkann: 'Ronaldo and Juve world's best'

https://www.football-italia.net/126081/elkann-ronaldo-and-juve-worlds-best

Aug 12, 2018

Juventus patron John Elkann welcomes Cristiano Ronaldo after a debut goal. “Having the best player in the world in the best team in the world is a good combination.”

The five times Ballon d’Or winner made his first appearance in a Bianconeri jersey in this evening’s traditional pre-season friendly between the senior squad and youth team in Villar Perosa.

It took Ronaldo eight minutes to get the first goal of the game, controlling a long Federico Bernardeschi ball to beat the goalkeeper one-on-one.

“Villar Perosa is a unique moment that only Juve have every summer and it’s magical each year to see the enthusiasm of the children, who then grow up and become adult Juventus fans,” Agnelli family heir Elkann told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s marvellous to see how Juve are important to fans all over Italy, who come here for the occasion. This is why Juve are extraordinary.”

With Ronaldo’s arrival, joining Leonardo Bonucci, Emre Can and Paulo Dybala, are Juventus to be considered Champions League favourites?

“Juve are among the biggest clubs in the history of football and this season it’s one of the strongest ever teams. We always have very high ambitions and start the season celebrating what we achieved while also reflecting on what we still need to do.

“Having the best player in the world in the best team in the world is a good combination. It’s the first time he has played with his new teammates today and it’s already a great sign that he has settled in so quickly.”

Buffon backs Juve & Ronaldo

https://www.football-italia.net/126109/buffon-backs-juve-ronaldo

Aug 13, 2018

Gianluigi Buffon ‘hopes’ Cristiano Ronaldo is a success for Juventus and notes ‘if they don’t win, they go close’.

Ronaldo and Real Madrid were regular thorns for Juve in the Champions League, while Buffon played a key role in the Bianconeri’s revival, prior to joining Paris Saint-Germain over the summer.

“I hope Ronaldo can give what he’s given for all the teams he played in,” the veteran goalkeeper told Sky Sport Italia.

“Certainly he won’t give Juventus the sorrows he’s given us in recent years… Juventus can’t spring any surprises: they have a skilled board and President, plus their history, team and fans are so great that if it they don’t win, they go close.”

Lichtsteiner: Juve for the CL!

https://www.football-italia.net/126111/lichtsteiner-juve-cl

Aug 13, 2018

Arsenal right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner has backed former club Juventus to win the Champions League this season.

Lichtsteiner won seven straight Scudetti with Juve between 2011 and 2018 but lost two Champions League Finals in that time, and the Swiss veteran believes the Bianconeri ‘deserve’ to end their 22-year wait for a European trophy.

“I hope Juventus win the Champions League, they deserve it after two losing two Finals,” he told Sky Sports.

“Ronaldo? I don’t regret leaving because that was what I wanted. I wanted a new challenge. Anyone would be happy to join Juventus, but now it’s Arsenal who count.”

https://www.football-italia.net/126164/minutes-silence-genoa-victims

Aug 14, 2018

The FIGC has announced there will be a minute’s silence ahead of all sporting events this weekend after the bridge collapse in Genoa.

The death toll is at least 35 and expected to grow after the Morandi bridge over the Polcevera stream collapsed this morning.

People were killed both on vehicles that were crossing and in the houses that lay below.

Genoa defender Domenico Criscito revealed on Instagram that he and his family had crossed the bridge only 10 minutes before the collapse.

There will be a minute’s silence ahead of all sporting events this weekend, including the opening round of the Serie A season, in honour of the victims.

Ferrero: ‘Delay Serie A start’

https://www.football-italia.net/126275/
ferrero-‘delay-serie-start’

Aug 16, 2018

Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero is “sure” that the first weekend of Serie A will be postponed.

A bridge collapsed in Genoa on Tuesday, killing at least 39 people and injuring many more.

The state funeral for the victims is on Saturday, when the league is supposed to start, and that day is also a national day of mourning.

“I’m calling the Presidents so we can say we don’t have to play,” Ferrero confirmed to RMC Sport.

“I’m sure that [Lega Serie A President Gaetano] Miccichè won’t play. I spoke to [Juve general manager Giuseppe] Marotta and he said Juventus won’t play. It’s Saturday, you can’t play on the day of the funerals.

"Sampdoria and Fiorentina won't play, [Genoa President Enrico] Preziosi won't play so Milan won't either.

“Regardless of the Lega’s decision, Samp, Genoa and Fiorentina will not play and we hope good sense will prevail.

"Miccichè is evaluating the situation and I am sure he will welcome my appeal, he is a good man.

"I can't think of celebrating at a time like this, there are still bodies there under the rubble, I can't think of sending my lads on to the pitch.

"Sport is a culture, a life. Sometimes you have to stop for a moment and reflect. Maybe Sunday could be a message that life goes on, but everyone thinks in his own way.

"As far as I'm concerned, we shouldn't play.

Sneijder: 'Juve won't win Champions'

https://www.football-italia.net/126289/sneijder-juve-wont-win-champions

Aug 16, 2018

Wesley Sneijder won the Champions League with Inter, but doubts Juventus can do the same, even with Cristiano Ronaldo. “There are tougher teams.”

The Bianconeri became one of the favourites to lift the trophy after bringing in CR7 from Real Madrid, not to mention Emre Can, Blaise Matuidi, Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Douglas Costa.

However, 2010 Treble winner Sneijder is unconvinced Juve will end their 22-year wait.

“I don’t think so,” he told beIN Sports.

“It’s not about one player you know, of course in the past years Juventus did a great job in the Champions League. But it’s not about one player who is going to change everything, that it’s going to change that much that you are going to win the Champions League.

“There are tougher teams than Juventus. For the league, OK it would surprise me if they don’t win the league, but the Champions League I think you need more for that."

“I think CR7 won’t struggle in Italy at all. He has the quality and he is a professional so he will adapt soon, I am convinced of that.

“There is no way that Cristiano to not succeed in Italy. It’s a different competition than the Spanish league, but it’s all about adaptation. If he can adapt quick, it will be easy for him. He will make something very good there.

"The biggest difference is that in Italy it’s all about winning, it’s all about the result 1-0 is enough. Spain is more technical to show a nice game and to score even more goals three, four, five zero you know like that but in Italy they are fine with 1-0 they are happy with the three points."

La Liga slams ‘tricky’ Inter

https://www.football-italia.net/126335/la-liga-slams-tricky-inter

Aug 17, 2018

La Liga chief Javier Tebas has accused Inter of ‘having no money’ and using ‘tricks’ to bring in players.

Inter have signed several players on loan with options to buys this summer, among them Matteo Politano and Keita Balde Diao, prompting Tebas to put them in the same boat as two of his pet hates Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

“Even though great Coaches like Mourinho and Guardiola went away, La Liga continued to grow,” he told ABC.

“It’s clear that I’d have liked to keep Cristiano Ronaldo, but I’d have liked players such as Lewandowski to arrive too.

“However, we should ask ourselves why there are ‘club-states’ inflating the market by taking away players.

“Things don’t happen just because we make mistakes, but I don’t think this is the case, but other clubs things have happened, which shouldn’t happen.

“I’m not only referring to PSG but also Juventus with the signing of Ronaldo and Inter, who have no money to buy players but then offer a mountain of money, the source of which I don’t know.

“Tricks in the market? As for Juve I don’t know. We’ll have to see how their deal [for Ronaldo] pans out, but Inter’s offer for Modric hid some tricks.

“The PSG-Neymar issue was also rigged. PSG are a club of ‘just tricks’ like Manchester City, and this generates circumstances that destabilise the market and media.”

Serie A: 'La Liga claims damaging'

https://www.football-italia.net/126373/serie-la-liga-claims-damaging

Aug 17, 2018

The Lega Serie A hit back after extraordinary suggestions from La Liga that Juventus and Inter resorted to “tricks” on the transfer market.

La Liga chief Javier Tebas claimed there were “tricks” used for Inter to approach Modric and Juventus in signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

“The Lega Serie A is surprised and upset by the declarations of Liga President Javier Tebas,” read a statement this evening.

“These comments were made without having any knowledge, yet damage the reputation and put into doubt the integrity of two Italian clubs and the League.

“The Lega Serie A cannot passively accept comments that use the media to destabilise us on the international stage.

“Serie A clubs operate within the parameters set by all international rules, which is why the Lega Serie A is going through a period of great optimism and enthusiasm, shared by media and fans all over the world, who grew exponentially in recent seasons.

“At the start of a season that will bring four Serie A clubs back into the Champions League group phase, we are certain that the rediscovered spirit and prestige of Serie A shouldn’t frighten opponents, but rather motivate the European panorama towards new apexes of competitiveness and entertainment.”

Ronaldo primed for Juve debut

https://www.football-italia.net/126334/ronaldo-primed-juve-debut

Aug 17, 2018

Max Allegri has confirmed that ‘best player in the world’ Cristiano Ronaldo will make his Juventus debut against Chievo on Saturday.

Ronaldo only began training with Juve two weeks ago, but Allegri revealed the superstar was nonetheless in a position to feature competitively for the first time.

“It is clear that for him, it’s a new experience. He’s intrigued,” the Coach said at a Press conference.

“I’ve always said that this season will be more difficult than ever. We have the best player in the world, Bonucci is back and we’ve made other signings like Can, Cancelo and Spinazzola.

“We’ve improved, but so have others. We must put aside this period of excitement for the arrival of these players and get back down to earth.

“When the season begins tomorrow, we’ll find a Chievo side who want to do well against one of the favourites for the League and Champions League.

“We must be immersed in our mentality, respecting our opponents and keeping a low profile when working.

“The only thing that matters is winning, and tomorrow we have to take the three points.

“There’s always a question mark over the first season, but I’m also curious to see the team tomorrow because we played half an hour at Villar Perosa and 30 minutes against the Under 23s.

“Tomorrow Ronaldo, Szczesny, Pjanic, Cancelo and Alex Sandro will all play. I must assess the others.

“Matuidi is getting back to full fitness. He’s only just come back, but everyone is in good condition.

“Tomorrow there will be those who play 50 minutes and those who play half an hour. Whoever played in the US more minutes in their legs.

“Ronaldo’s won five Ballon d’Ors and always wants to push himself. In 15 days I haven’t spotted anything extraordinary from him, but it’s immediately clear to me that he’s different to the others.

“It’s shown by what he’s won. For everyone else, it’s an important stimulus because winning, continuing to win and being the best for the past 11 years with Messi is a stimulus.

“However, this shouldn’t make us fall into the fact that if Ronaldo is there, we win. Ronaldo helps us win if the team work in a certain way.

“It’s a great added value for a team who have played in two Champions League Finals in the last four years and won what needed to be won.”

The new Juventus signings, including Cristiano Ronaldo, were forced to sing as part of their initiation ceremony.

The Bianconeri kick-off the Serie A season at Chievo tomorrow, as they look to retain the Scudetto for an eighth season in a row.

As is traditional at many football clubs, new signings are forced to sing a song at their initiation, and Miralem Pjanic posted footage of the new boys standing in front of the squad.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Cancelo, Mattia Perin and Leonardo Bonucci all sang, while returning world champion Blaise Matuidi performed a dance for his teammates.

Cristiano Ronaldo is in the starting XI for his Serie A debut with Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado and Douglas Costa as Juventus visit Chievo.

The Serie A opener kicks off at the Stadio Bentegodi at 18.00 CET - 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT).

Follow the build-up and action as it happens from Verona, along with tonight’s Lazio-Napoli.

All eyes are on the debut of CR7, including an anti-terror police unit who have been sent to the stadium as a precaution against any possible threats.

Max Allegri cannot disguise their ambition this year is the Treble and has a star-studded line-up to achieve it.

He uses a 4-2-3-1 formation with Cuadrado getting the nod ahead of Federico Bernardeschi on the right side of that supporting trident.

Cuadrado, Dybala and Douglas Costa fan out behind centre-forward Cristiano Ronaldo, with Sami Khedira and Miralem Pjanic in midfield.

The defence is revamped with €40m purchase Joao Cancelo and returning Leonardo Bonucci.

Chievo promoted former defender Lorenzo D’Anna to the role of caretaker manager towards the end of last season after sacking Rolando Maran and he now has the main job.

Bostjan Cesar is out of action due to injury, but ex-Juventus winger Emanuele Giaccherini supplies Mariusz Stepinski. Valter Birsa is on the bench.

Chievo: Sorrentino; Tomovic, Rossettini, Bani, Cacciatore; N Rigoni, Radovanovic, Hetemaj; Depaoli, Stepinski, Giaccherini

Chievo bench: Semper, Seculin, Tanasijevic, Barba, Jaroszynski, Obi, Kiyine, Birsa, Leris, Meggiorini, Djorjevic, Pellissier

Juventus: Szczesny; Cancelo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Pjanic, Khedira; Cuadrado, Dybala, Douglas Costa; Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is already realising Serie A can be tricky, as Chievo are holding Juventus to a 1-1 draw at the break.

This was not only the opening game of the 2018-19 Serie A season, but also the debut of Cristiano Ronaldo and Giorgio Chiellini’s first as captain. Leonardo Bonucci returned after one year at Milan and was loudly jeered by some sections of the Juve support every time he touched the ball.

It took all of 162 seconds to break the deadlock, as new captain Giorgio Chiellini knocked down a Miralem Pjanic free kick for Sami Khedira to rifle home from seven yards.

The Bianconeri dominated possession (84 per cent in the opening 20 minutes) and Cristiano Ronaldo drilled inches wide, while Juan Cuadrado blasted a promising counter-attack over the bar.

Douglas Costa was already in fine form and his volley swerved past the far top corner, but out of nowhere Chievo equalised with their first genuine attempt.

Emanuele Giaccherini, a former Juve star, floated in a cross for the looping header of Mariusz Stepinski into the far top corner, taking advantage of Bonucci’s static defending.

On the stroke of half-time, Khedira nodded a Douglas Costa cross off target with Cristiano Ronaldo waiting right behind him.

Chievo 1-1 Juventus (Half-Time)

Khedira 3 (J), Stepinski 38 (C)

Chievo: Sorrentino; Tomovic, Rossettini, Bani, Cacciatore; N Rigoni, Radovanovic, Hetemaj; Depaoli, Stepinski, Giaccherini

Juventus: Szczesny; Cancelo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Pjanic, Khedira; Cuadrado, Dybala, Douglas Costa; Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo learned Serie A is a tough league, as Juventus fought back from a goal down for a dramatic 3-2 victory at Chievo.

Inevitably, Juve started the second half aggressively and Sorrentino used his legs to beat away a dipping Ronaldo strike, but Joao Cancelo tripped Giaccherini as he burst down the left for a penalty. Ex-Juve man Giak converted it perfectly, sending Wojciech Szczesny the wrong way to turn the game around completely.

This was an unexpected development for Juve, who hadn’t conceded two goals in their opening Serie A game since a 4-3 at Perugia in September 1998.

Sorrentino was comfortably behind Federico Bernardeschi’s effort and a Ronaldo header, but the 39-year-old flew for a sensational one-handed reaction save to deny CR7 what would’ve been a classic debut goal. Ronaldo controlled with his back to the goal, spun round between defenders and his dipping curler was heading for the far bottom corner.

Fabrizio Cacciatore deflected another Ronaldo attempt on to the roof of the net, then a Mario Mandzukic glancing header skimmed the far post.

After a series of corners, Bonucci and Mattia Bani both got on the end of a Bernardeschi set play to deflect it in from a couple of yards and set up a fiery finale.

Ronaldo’s free kick stung Sorrentino’s gloves from a tight angle, then the goalkeeper denied Emre Can with a diving header on his first touch in Serie A.

There was huge controversy in the final five minutes with a chaotic incident. Mandzukic’s header was cleared only after it had crossed the line, but Sorrentino was unconscious on the ground after a nasty collision with Ronaldo, who also seemed to handle. The referee viewed it again on VAR and opted to disallow the goal.

Sorrentino was dazed and helped off the field, but Andrea Seculin’s first contribution was to pick the ball out of the net, as Bernardeschi toe-poked in an Alex Sandro low assist.

Chievo: Sorrentino (Seculin 91); Tomovic, Rossettini, Bani, Cacciatore; N Rigoni, Radovanovic, Hetemaj (Obi 77); Depaoli, Stepinski (Djordjevic 66), Giaccherini

Juventus: Szczesny; Cancelo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Pjanic, Khedira (Can 84); Cuadrado (Bernardeschi 56), Dybala, Douglas Costa (Mandzukic 63); Cristiano Ronaldo

Allegri: 'Juve needed reminder'

Max Allegri told off Juventus for “falling asleep” in the 3-2 thriller at Chievo, but confessed “we needed this to remind us nothing is to be taken for granted.”

The Bianconeri had taken an early lead through Sami Khedira, then Mariusz Stepinski and an Emanuele Giaccherini penalty turned it around.

Leonardo Bonucci pressured Mattia Bani into an own goal and late on Federico Bernardeschi poked in an Alex Sandro assist for the dramatic victory.

“We lowered our guard a little, even in our passing, because we thought the game was in hand and lowered the tempo too,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“You allow the press from the opposition, defend badly and ultimately are going to concede. It was a great victory that we needed, because we needed this reminder right from the start that every match in Serie A is difficult and nothing is to be taken for granted.

“The most important thing in the first few rounds is to take the points home.”

It was Cristiano Ronaldo’s Serie A debut and, although he did not score, he did force several saves from Stefano Sorrentino.

“Ronaldo held out well physically, has only been training with us for seven days and did really well. It’s a pity he wasn’t able to score a goal.

“It depends on the characteristics of the players near him. Ronaldo had several shots on target today, Sorrentino made several saves, there were also some good movements that were not rewarded by the midfielders. Those are movements that must be read from the back with the ball provided in the right spot.

“I was most impressed that Ronaldo settled in to the team, he was very happy in the locker room and had his chances.

“The main problem tonight was we let the concentration levels drop and we simply cannot afford to do that.”

There is a great deal of competition in midfield now at Juventus, with Emre Can and Blaise Matuidi among others.

“Khedira is a player beyond reproach. He scored nine goals last season, immediately got one today. I heard a lot of criticism since he’s been at Juventus and he always replied on the pitch. He’s one of those players who understands the tempo of the game and you miss him when he’s not there,” insisted Allegri.

“Joao Cancelo had a good first half, then after the penalty – which can happen – he let his head drop and almost seemed to feel guilty. These things can happen, the important thing is to react to them.

“When you have as much quality as we do, including Alex Sandro and Cancelo at full-back, you need to finish off the game earlier. We had the chances and dominated possession, but didn’t finish it.

“It’s a different approach to the attack and supply when Ronaldo is there compared to Mandzukic. I saw some positive things, others less positive. In the first half we got stretched out and there was no reason for it. We had to remain organised.

“We were caught napping on the equaliser and did better with Bernardeschi and Mandzukic coming on towards the end. We need to find balance, but the most important thing is not to fall asleep when we’re doing well.”

Bernardeschi: 'Juve need heart'

Federico Bernardeschi felt the 3-2 Juventus thriller at Chievo showed “champions are great, but nothing matters on paper, you have to prove it all on the pitch.”

The former Fiorentina winger came off the bench and toe-poked in the winning goal at the Stadio Bentegodi.

“I am happy obviously, but regardless of the goal, I’m happy the first game went well with three points,” Bernardeschi told Sky Sport Italia.

“We knew it wasn’t easy to play here, especially with this heat, but the important thing is to have heart. Champions are great, but football proved once again that nothing matters on paper, you have to prove it all on the pitch during the 90 minutes.

“Obviously, we need to do better, but it’s tough at the start of the season to keep the tempo up for 90 minutes. We got the points and that’s the most important thing right now.

“I have to compliment Chievo, because they put in a great performance.”

Juventus B make competitive debut

https://www.football-italia.net/126568/juventus-b-make-competitive-debut

Aug 21, 2018

The Juventus B team had its historic first ever competitive match this evening, including England Under-20 striker Stephy Mavididi.

This summer, the rules were changed in Italy to allow Serie A clubs to have B-Teams of players aged under 23 participate in major competition and Juventus B will be registered in the 2018-19 Serie C/Lega Pro campaign.

Meanwhile, they made their debut in the Coppa Italia di Lega Pro this evening, beating Cuneo 1-0.

The only goal was scored by Luca Zanimacchia, though goalkeeper Mattia Del Favero was decisive with a series of saves.

Former Arsenal striker Mavididi was thrown in straight from the start for his debut in a trident attack.
