ICC: Ronaldo and Buffon beat Inter

Jul 24, 2019

Cristiano Ronaldo cancelled out a Matthijs de Ligt own goal, but Juventus veteran Gigi Buffon saved three Inter penalties in the shoot-out.

This was the second International Champions Cup game for both teams, as Juve lost at the last second to Tottenham 3-2 and Inter fell to Manchester United.

The Nerazzurri had an aggressive start in Nanjing and Wojciech Szczesny had to fingertip a Stefano Sensi free kick out from under the bar, but on the resulting Sensi corner, it took an unlucky bounce off De Ligt’s shin, not a good way to mark his first start in a Bianconeri jersey.

Juve tried to enact Maurizio Sarri’s passing game, but as seen with Chelsea last season, in the early stages it can be slow and largely ineffective possession.

Ivan Perisic, again played upfront by Antonio Conte, hit the side-netting on the counter and Marcelo Brozovic stung the goalkeeper’s gloves from distance.

Federico Bernardeschi had the first Juve chance on the stroke of half-time, blasting just over after a give-and-go on the edge of the box.

Sarri made several changes at half-time and Juventus were more determined, Cristiano Ronaldo and Adrien Rabiot forcing saves, while the Portuguese star felt he’d been pushed for a penalty.

Ronaldo did get the equaliser when his free kick took a decisive deflection off Milan Skriniar in the wall to wrong-foot substitute goalkeeper Daniele Padelli.

Ronaldo thought he’d scored a second when dribbling around Padelli, but the goalkeeper somehow got back for a decisive tackle as he was preparing to fire into an empty net.

Juve kept pushing, but the draw meant they had to decide victory on a penalty shoot-out and 41-year-old Buffon took centre-stage, saving spot-kicks from Andrea Ranocchia and Samuele Longo.

Rabiot could’ve won it, only to blast over, while Nicolò Barella’s penalty squirmed under Buffon’s body and Federico Bernardeschi hit the bar.

It went to sudden death and Buffon again saved Borja Valero’s spot-kick for Merih Demiral to convert the decisive penalty.

Sarri: 'Juve changing mentality'

sarri juventus inter international champions cup

https://www.football-italia.net/141184/sarri-juve-changing-mentality

Jul 24, 2019

Maurizio Sarri warned “it takes a while to change mentality” at Juventus after their 1-1 draw with Inter, but Gigi Buffon is “a born fighter.”

The Bianconeri were held to a 1-1 draw by Inter in Nanjing, winning a penalty shoot-out thanks to three Gigi Buffon spot-kick saves for their first International Champions Cup points.

Matthijs de Ligt had scored an own goal in his first start for Juve, cancelled out by a deflected Cristiano Ronaldo free kick.

“De Ligt was playing during our worst period of the game, but he has no responsibility in that,” assured Sarri on Sportitalia.

“Ronaldo had the usual excellent performance. We can improve a great deal in our attacking moves and that would make it easier for him.

“Buffon’s great strength is that he’s a born fighter. He was ready when called upon and was extraordinary in the shoot-out.”

Juventus had lost their first International Champions Cup game 3-2 to Tottenham Hotspur in stoppages.

“It was a not dissimilar game to the one we played against Tottenham, struggling at the start and with a low

tempo. We did very well in the second half, pressing the opposition high on their wing-backs.

“We can improve, particularly on pressing high to win the ball back when defending. We must focus on defending by going forward, not allowing them to get behind us.

“We did that better in the first half-hour of the second half, with more courage, more pressing to regain possession.

“It’s normal that it takes a while to change that mentality. I made a mistake this morning, as I got them to have a 45-minute training session, but we felt it in this heat.

“I told the players in the dressing room that we could accept errors in movement, but I didn’t want to see passivity. We have to defend pushing forward and not running backwards, so the lads got the message.”

Italian Super Cup in Saudi Arabia again

Gerelateerde afbeelding

https://www.football-italia.net/141235/italian-super-cup-saudi-arabia-again

Jul 25, 2019

The Italia Super Cup between Juventus and Lazio will again be held in Saudi Arabia, confirmed Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo.

Last season there was controversy when the trophy went to Juve, beating Coppa Italia Finalists Milan in Jeddah, amid growing concerns over the political and humanitarian situation.

“We have a contract with them for three editions of the Super Cup and one has already been played in Jeddah,” assured Lega Serie A chief De Siervo on Radio 24.

“The Lega wants to respect its contract. We are not battling Saudi Arabia and only a specific request from the two clubs would prevent us playing there.”

Another reason for the protest against Saudi Arabia is cybercrime, more specifically ‘stealing’ footage from live games on pay-per-view channels.

“There is a great deal of worry, as we must start to let people know this sort of attitude is criminal. We are trying to work with hosting providers and that allow streaming, with fans all over Europe tuning in to illegal content.”

Juve fight back for K League draw

Jul 26, 2019

Juventus came back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with K League All-Stars in Seoul as Cristiano Ronaldo remained a substitute.

Maurizio Sarri gave starts to Daniele Rugani and Mario Mandzukic, as well as youngsters Pietro Beruatto and Simone Muratore, while Ronaldo dropped to the bench.

However, the Bianconeri fell behind just seven minutes in as Osmar dispossessed Gonzalo Higuain and beat Wojciech Szczesny from 25 yards out.

Higuain quickly made amends, slipping in Simone Muratore for an angled finish, but the Asians ended the first half on top through Cesinha, who celebrated his strike Ronaldo-style.

Former Fulham striker Adam Taggart was one of 10 K-League changes for the restart, and he made an instant impact, flicking in a volley after the Old Lady failed to clear their lines.

Nonetheless, Blaise Matuidi marked his cameo with a header at the far post, before fellow substitute Matheus levelled things up, nutmegging his man and poking a finish home.

However, fans at Seoul’s World Cup Stadium were left disappointed as the match ended without Ronaldo being thrown into action.

K League All-Stars 3-3 Juventus

Neapolitans denied Juve tickets

juventus-napoli nati campania

https://www.football-italia.net/141862/neapolitans-denied-juve-tickets

Aug 8, 2019

Juventus have announced that Napoli fans who live in Campania or are born in the region will not be able to buy tickets for their August 31 clash.

The two Scudetto contenders are due to meet in Turin at the end of the month, but as it stands no Neapolitan natives will be making the trip.

That is because a statement on Juve’s official website included the above condition for when tickets go on general sale tomorrow.

Turin police have already distanced themselves from the statement, while Campanian politician Flavia Sorrentino has accused the Bianconeri of ‘racism’ and ‘territorial discrimination’.

Both sides are not only Serie A rivals but also represent the north-south divide in Italy, while former Partenopei boss Maurizio Sarri - raised in Tuscany but born in Naples - has since moved to the Old Lady.

Juve have been punished on several occasions in the past for anti-Neapolitan chants from their fans and even their under-15 team.

The reason of this Juventus' decision is to connect with the vandalic damages caused by Napoli's fans in the past inside the Allianz Stadium.

Juventus start Cristiano Ronaldo, Matthijs de Ligt and Douglas Costa against Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix, Saul Niguez and Alvaro Morata.

The final International Champions Cup game kicks off in Stockholm at 17.00 UK time, 18.00 CET.

These sides last met in the Champions League Round of 16, when Atletico Madrid won the first leg 2-0 and Juve commanded a 3-0 victory in Turin thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick.

CR7 leads the way again today with support from Higuain and Douglas Costa, while Matthijs de Ligt is in central defence with the returning Giorgio Chiellini.

Sami Khedira is a surprise in midfield, considering he is reportedly on his way out of the club.

Kieran Trippier was linked with a move to Juventus and Napoli over the summer, but opted for Atletico Madrid instead, and he starts at right-back this evening.

Former Juve striker Morata is upfront with Portuguese sensation Joao Felix.

Ronaldo out of Juve friendly

Juve, UFFICIALE: Ronaldo KO, salta l'amichevole di Villar Perosa

https://www.football-italia.net/142098/ronaldo-out-juve-friendly

Aug 14, 2019

Cristiano Ronaldo has been ruled out of Juventus’ in-house friendly at Villar Perosa this afternoon with a thigh strain.

Juve tweeted Ronaldo had suffered ‘a slight strain in his left thigh muscle’ and would work on his own for the next few days.

It comes as a blow to the thousands of fans who have flocked to the Turin comune, hoping to see the No 7 in action.

The 34-year-old was similarly absent against K League All-Stars, with the club explaining he had a muscle problem on that occasion.

The Bianconeri start the new Serie A season against Parma on August 24, so it is likely they want to keep Ronaldo under wraps until then.

The friendly is played every summer between the Old Lady’s first team and Primavera side.

Gianluigi Buffon and Gonzalo Higuain return to the municipality after a year away, while Paulo Dybala could get his first minutes of a summer overshadowed by Copa America and transfer speculation.

It is also the first time for new boys Adrien Rabiot, Merih Demiral, Aaron Ramsey and Matthijs de Ligt.

Elkann: 'Juve objective is to win'

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor john elkann e sarri

https://www.football-italia.net/142105/elkann-juve-objective-win

Aug 14, 2019

Juventus chief John Elkann assures Coach Maurizio Sarri is “happy with the transfer market” and “the primary objective is to win.”

The Bianconeri gathered at Villar Perosa this afternoon for the traditional pre-season friendly between the senior squad and the youth team.

“It’s always lovely to be here, as so little changes and so much changes,” said the President of Agnelli holding company Exor on Sky Sport Italia.

“You really understand what Juve are about from here. It’s also good for Sarri to feel at home in this environment and see the Juventus of the future.”

It has been said that former Napoli and Chelsea boss Sarri was brought in to provide the Bianconeri with more entertainment, quality and ‘good’ football after the Max Allegri era.

“There was never an opposition between winning and playing good football,” insisted Elkann, one of the heirs to the Agnelli fortune.

“I am certain Sarri will be able to interpret it the best way, but the most important thing is that he feels at home. Sarri is happy with the environment, the transfer market and the signings.

“The primary objective, as always, is to win.”

'New Juve kit a blazing trail'

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor maglia juve 2019-2020

https://www.football-italia.net/142177/new-juve-kit-blazing-trail

Aug 16, 2019

Adidas has defended Juventus’ controversial home shirt for the 2019-20 campaign, praising them for ‘blazing a trail’ with their new look.

Juve’s decision to do without their traditional, black-and-white stripes and go for two block colours, with a thin pink line running through the middle, has polarised their fan base.

Flames were further fanned when it was alleged the Old Lady had binned the stripes because it reminded Americans of referee uniforms in baseball and American football.

“That’s utter rubbish,” Adidas design director Inigo Turner told ESPN.

“That was never part of the process. It’s fake news, somebody starting stories, click bait, whatever you want to call it.

“We’re really aware [of the reception the shirt is getting]. We prefer when it’s well received.

“Obviously when you do something that’s quite bold, there will be a reaction at least to begin with.

“Sometimes jerseys take a little longer to become a favourite. It could be that the team needs to wear it a little bit and then people will go, ‘Yeah, now I’m really used to it. I really like it.’ Everybody has an opinion.

“We also think that to stay in these traditional shirts all the time would also be a little bit predictable and not push things forward.

“It’s something that we’re compelled to do at Adidas: drive forward the look of football on the field.

“That becomes increasingly difficult with lots of regulations, with number boxes needed and other things.

“If you think back to some of the most iconic shirts in history, those old Man United away shirts, the ‘bruised banana’ Arsenal shirt, all the iconic shirts everyone remembers now...  think if we’d had social media back then the reaction would also have been fairly strong. But these are the jerseys everybody loves, the ones that are remembered and held dearly in a lot of people’s affections.”

Despite the jersey going against the grain, pink is one of the Old Lady’s founding colours.

“Pink was one of the very first colours the club wore. The first kits they wore were pink with these black neckties.

“It’s a foundation colour, one of our nods back to an authentic story. While I think we’ve done something very disruptive, we also reference something that’s from the heart and the origins of the club.

“It’s important that we make those historical references and bring those stories into the kits. We’re not educators but we make reference points to a club’s rich history.

“We tend to throw our net quite wide in terms of ideas. I think about when the team lines up in the kit before the game and the camera pans across the team or you get the wide-angle shot.

“What you see are black and white stripes. It’s different thinking. Also behind the goal, if Juve are attacking the goal and you’ve got thousands of people wearing that shirt you have a very different-looking black and white stripes. It’s much bolder.

“They come together in a different way. It’s a very confident statement about bringing everybody together collectively to create the stripes.”

With the Bianconeri also radically changing their badge, Turner believes the shirt is further proof of their ‘progressive’ approach.

“I would say they’re blazing a trail. They want to be number one. They want to lead the industry and they don’t want to do things after someone else has done it because then obviously it looks like you’re somehow following them. They clearly see themselves as a global number one, a big player.

“We want to take the story of Juventus Football Club and lead it into the next era. It’s also sort of about defining a new history as well.

“They’re a very progressive club in terms of how they see their brand and they’re always looking to drive the industry. An inherent part of that is taking risks and doing things first.”

Dybala sends Juventus message

Immagine

https://www.football-italia.net/142255/dybala-sends-juventus-message

Aug 17, 2019

Paulo Dybala sent a message to Juventus with a stunning goal and pointed celebration, but also saw a penalty saved in a 1-0 win at Triestina.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Coach Maurizio Sarri didn’t make the trip to the Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste, as the star had a muscular issue and the tactician still suffering from flu. It was therefore used as an opportunity to experiment with Dybala as a False 9.

Danilo’s taut cross from the right almost prompted an own goal as desperate defending prevented a Dybala tap-in, then Douglas Costa’s curler was beaten away.

The Triestina goalkeeper flew to fingertip a Dybala swerving strike out from under the bar, but Danilo and Federico Bernardeschi were struggling to understand each other down the right flank.

Juve broke the deadlock with a simply extraordinary piece of magic from Dybala. La Joya sent a message to the club that he doesn’t want to leave, as he twisted and turned with a dummy to confuse defenders, then placed a delightful lob into the net from just inside the area, celebrating by patting the badge on his jersey and pointing to the name on the back.

Douglas Costa came flying down the left and his angled drive flashed across the face of goal to skim the far post.

A long-range Sami Khedira screamer was deflected, forcing a tricky save, then Bernardeschi’s poor first touch still enabled him to earn a penalty, as Daniel Offredi rushed out to trip him.

However, Offredi made up for the error with a fantastic save to keep out Dybala’s penalty at the near post.

Triestina started to get a foothold in the game after that and Wojciech Szczesny had to make a very difficult save on Tommaso Coletti’s ferocious volley.

Aaron Ramsey made his Juventus debut, coming on for the final 20 minutes, and Emre Can fired wide when Gonzalo Higuain had been trying to set it up.

Higuain stung Offredi’s gloves with a powerful finish after the smart one-two with Ramsey, but Triestina rattled the underside of the bar with a magnificent turn and shot from the tightest of angles by Andrea Ferretti.

Davis Mensah wreaked havoc down the left and set up Demetrio Steffè to sting Wojciech Szczesny’s gloves.

Triestina 0-1 Juventus

Pavel Nedved has asserted this is not a transitional year for Juventus and that ‘we’ll seize any opportunities that arise’ in the transfer market.

Nedved was entrusted with holding the Press conference for Juve’s first Serie A game of the season against Parma on Saturday as Maurizio Sarri is being treated for pneumonia.

“Juventus want to win again this season,” began the Vice-President.

“We’ve changed a lot, but it’s not a year of transition. Sarri’s doing a great job, he’ll come back after the international break. We’re very happy, the team are following his command.

“I won’t focus on just our attack but rather the whole team. There’s a lot of competition, but everyone has to be professional.

“I won’t comment on the market. That’s for Paratici, who’s been doing great things. Not only did he bring in Demiral and Danilo, but he also conducted big sales like those of Cancelo and Kean.

“The market hasn’t closed yet and we’ll seize any opportunities that arise, but we mustn’t give up. Our accounts are fine as they are.

“If we need to do something we will, otherwise we’ll remain as we are. I won’t talk about players at other teams.

“I’d prefer the market to be closed, but I’ll only say that we’re ready to seize the right opportunities.”

The Czech was then asked about Inter’s acquisitions of ex-Bianconero Antonio Conte and Beppe Marotta, as well as the reintegrations of Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain.

“Obviously it’s made a bit of an impression. Antonio made Juventus history by winning trophies here as a player and a Coach.

“We know how good he is and the same goes for Marotta. We know we have strong opponents who want to win right away.

“Dybala can never be a problem for us. He’s a great player and we’re happy to have him. The Coach is using him as a false nine he’s and doing very well.

“Higuain’s one of the two or three best strikers in the world. We’re happy that he’s with us, plus he had a very good preseason.

“We’ll aim to win everything, of course, but we have no preferences with regards to competition. The Champions League is an objective, but it’s not an obsession.

“I believe we have one of the best squads in Europe.”

The Old Lady will be without Aaron Ramsey and Daniele Rugani at the Tardini, the latter seemingly close to joining Roma.

Juve squad to face Parma: Szczesny, Buffon, Pinsoglio; De Sciglio, Chiellini, De Ligt, Pjanic, Khedira, Ronaldo, Dybala, Douglas Costa, Alex Sandro, Danilo, Matuidi, Cuadrado, Mandzukic, Bonucci, Higuain, Emre Can, Rabiot, Demiral, Bentancur, Bernardeschi

Rules relaxed for Sarri and Mihajlovic

Maurizio Sarri and Sinisa Mihajlovic will not be on the bench for Juventus and Bologna games, so how will they keep in touch with team and staff?

The Bianconeri announced via a statement this week that Sarri was still undergoing treatment for pneumonia and would not be on the bench for either of the two opening fixtures against Parma and Napoli.

He has been at the Continassa training centre, but in a separate room, watching the sessions via videolink and keeping in touch with his assistants on the phone.

Juve begin their Serie A campaign today at 17.00 UK time at Parma’s Stadio Tardini.

The rules on communicating with the bench are relaxed when the absence is due not to suspension, but force majeure, in this case illness.

Sarri will therefore be on the phone continually with assistant Giovanni Martusciello and the rest of his staff.

He’ll also be able to give a half-time team talk remotely.

The same situation applies to Bologna and their Coach, Mihajlovic, who is undergoing chemotherapy after his leukaemia diagnosis.

The Serbian has been watching training sessions and games via streaming from his hospital bed and given team talks on speaker phone.

That scenario has already been used for weeks now, not to mention he was already their tactician last season.

Sarri and Juve are still getting to know each other and there is more room for potential hiccups.

Juventus start Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo, Douglas Costa and Blaise Matuidi in their trip to Gervinho’s Parma, as the 2019-20 Serie A season finally begins.

It kicks off at the Stadio Tardini at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CET - 16.00 GMT).

Maurizio Sarri has been left behind in Turin, as he continues his recovery from pneumonia, and won’t be on the bench against Napoli next week either.

Assistant manager Giovanni Martusciello is in his place, but keeping in constant contact with the former Chelsea boss.

The new Coach is still trying to get his ideas across to Juve, who won eight consecutive Serie A titles under Antonio Conte and Max Allegri, both far more defensive-minded bosses than Sarri.

Aaron Ramsey and Daniele Rugani are out of action, but Ronaldo is back to full fitness after a muscular issue and starts in a trident attack with Douglas Costa and surprisingly Higuain.

Although Dybala was linked with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, he had impressed in pre-season friendlies in the False 9 role.

However, La Joya is only on the bench, while other supposedly transfer-listed players like Matuidi and Sami Khedira start.

Leonardo Bonucci and Mattia De Sciglio are preferred to new boys Matthijs de Ligt and Danilo, so there are no summer signings – apart from returning Higuain – in the starting XI.

Parma have already played one competitive game, beating Venezia 3-1 in the Coppa Italia with a Gervinho brace last week.

The Ivorian veteran and Roberto Inglese remain from last season, with 19-year-old Dejan Kulusevski given the nod on loan from Atalanta rather than Inter-owned Yann Karamoh.

Juraj Kucka is not fully fit, so Gaston Brugman and Hernani play in midfield.

Parma: Sepe; Laurini, Iacoponi, Bruno Alves, Gagliolo; Hernani, Brugman, Barillà; Kulusevski, Inglese, Gervinho

Parma bench: Colombi, Dermaku, Machin, Karamoh, Grassi, Cornelius, Scozzarella, Siligardi, Ceravolo, Kucka, Ricci, Sprocati

Juventus: Szczesny; De Sciglio, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Douglas Costa, Higuain, Ronaldo

Juventus bench: Pinsoglio, Buffon, De Ligt, Dybala, Danilo, Cuadrado, Mandzukic, Emre Can, Rabiot, Demiral, Bentancur, Bernardeschi

HT 0-1: Chiellini opens Juve account

Giorgio Chiellini redirected an Alex Sandro shot to give Juventus the lead away to Parma, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal was disallowed.

The 2019-20 Serie A season kicked off at the Stadio Tardini, but Maurizio Sarri will not be on the bench for the opening two Juve games, as he is undergoing treatment for pneumonia.

There were no new faces at all for Juve, because the summer signings were all benched. Surprisingly, returning Gonzalo Higuain was given the start rather than Paulo Dybala, while Juraj Kucka was not fully fit for the hosts.

Cristiano Ronaldo nodded over and moments later Wojciech Szczesny showed quick reactions to deny Roberto Inglese twice on Parma counter-attacks.

However, it was Juve who broke through from their fifth corner of the match. Luigi Sepe’s punch was poor and Alex Sandro’s scuffed volley took a deflection before Giorgio Chiellini got the final touch from seven yards. It was the veteran defender’s 27th Serie A goal in 389 appearances.

Chiellini was decisive at the other end, deflecting Inglese’s strike wide of the far post after the offside trap failed, while Ronaldo’s angled drive skimmed the far post at the end of a well-worked move.

Ronaldo thought he had scored to make it 2-0 on 34 minutes after great work from Douglas Costa, but it was disallowed using VAR because his shoulder was offside.

Parma 0-1 Juventus (Half-Time)

Parma: Sepe; Laurini, Iacoponi, Bruno Alves, Gagliolo; Hernani, Brugman, Barillà; Kulusevski, Inglese, Gervinho

Giorgio Chiellini’s flick from close range proved enough for Juventus to start the season with victory in Parma, as Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal was disallowed.

Ronaldo thought he had scored to make it 2-0 on 34 minutes after great work from Douglas Costa, but it was disallowed using VAR because his shoulder was offside.

Mattia De Sciglio needed a sensational sliding tackle to stop Gervinho at the by-line and Higuain’s attempt was deflected wide, while Sepe stuck up an arm to parry the ferocious Ronaldo strike that was going under the bar, then got down to smother his drive.

Juve looked tired late on and Parma threw everything forward, Hernani’s rocket of a free kick just wide and Szczesny alert on Inglese.

Former Juventus goalkeeper: 'The referees want to favor Napoli..'

Former Juventus goalkeeper Stefano Tacconi has said that the referees in the Serie A want to favor Napoli this season.

In an interview that he gave, he talked about the refereeing this season and said:  "In my opinion this year with arbitrages they want to favor some team from the South.  In my opinion this year they want to favor Napoli, we have already seen it on the first day".

On the usage of VAR, he said: "The referee always decides, VAR or not VAR, he is a referee who decides. Unfortunately, they still decide. It is good for Juve, at least now he no longer steals just her but steals others too."

Napoli picked up a 4-3 win over Fiorentina on the opening day of the season on Saturday. But there were many controversial refereeing decisions throughout the game, as Napoli were handed a penalty for a controversial spot-kick that was handed and Lorenzo Insigne scored.

Dries Mertens has been cleared to play for Napoli against Juventus this weekend after avoiding punishment for his dive.

Mertens was accused of conning the referee as he won a penalty for Napoli during their 4-3 victory over Fiorentina, despite going down with little to no contact.

However, the FIGC ruled on Tuesday that the Federal Prosecutor would not review the Belgian’s act of simulation retrospectively.

Therefore, he is available to face Juve in Saturday’s Serie A showdown at the Allianz Stadium.

Elsewhere, Verona defender Pawel Dawidowicz and Lecce forward Diego Farias have been given one-match bans for their respective red cards against Bologna and Inter.

Fiorentina have been fined 10,000 for anti-Napoli chants, while Bologna are given a 3,000 penalty for an administrative error on matchday.

CL Draw: Tough groups for Italians

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor champions league 2019-2020

Aug 29, 2019

The Champions League draw pits Juventus against Atletico Madrid, while Napoli face Liverpool, Inter take on Barcelona and Atalanta are in a group with Manchester City.

The 2019-20 tournament begins with the group phase on September 17-18, with games on October 1-2, October 22-23, November 5-6, November 26-27 and December 10-11.

Juventus continue their attempts to end the decades-long Champions League drought and start in a group with Atletico Madrid, who they beat 3-2 on aggregate thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick in the Round of 16 last season.

Bayer Leverkusen and Lokomotiv Moscow complete Juve’s Group D.

Napoli were second seeds and hoping to avoid another nightmare draw in a Group of Death, which saw them narrowly squeezed out over the last two years.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men were paired with Liverpool for the second year running, having been narrowly eliminated by the eventual trophy winners in the group phase last season.

They are joined by RB Salzburg, who the Partenopei faced in the Europa League last season, and Belgians KRC Genk.

Inter had a strong start to the Serie A season under new Coach Antonio Conte, but were third seeds in the draw, so entered a group with Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Slavia Prague.

It is the first ever Champions League experience for Atalanta, who had an astonishing campaign last term, finishing third in Serie A and reaching the Coppa Italia Final.

The Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo is currently undergoing restructuring work to become the Gewiss Arena, so they have been given permission to play their European home games at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, commonly referred to as San Siro.

Atalanta are in Group C with Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb.

UEFA also handed out the awards for Champions League Player of the Year, going to Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker, his teammate in defence Virgil van Dijk, midfielder Frenkie de Jong of Ajax and Barcelona forward Lionel Messi.

Line-ups: Juventus v Napoli

Aug 31, 2019

Matthijs de Ligt makes his Serie A debut, as Juventus again start Gonzalo Higuain, while Napoli make changes in defence to support Dries Mertens.

It kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT - 20.45 CET).

This was meant to be the big showdown between Maurizio Sarri and his former club, after Lorenzo Insigne said they felt ‘betrayed’ by his move to their arch-rivals.

However, Sarri has been suffering from pneumonia and is therefore not on the bench, as he is in the stadium, but in a separate section.

He has again picked Higuain – another ex-Napoli man – to lead the line with Cristiano Ronaldo and Douglas Costa, leaving PSG target Paulo Dybala on the bench.

The only new face in the line-up after their 1-0 victory over Parma is De Ligt, but that was a decision forced upon them by yesterday’s serious injury to Giorgio Chiellini.

The captain tore his anterior cruciate ligament and is likely to be out of action for around six months.

Blaise Matuidi and Sami Khedira are once more given the midfield reins with Miralem Pjanic.

Napoli made the trip without injured Arkadiusz Milik, but do make some changes at the back from their 4-3 victory away to Fiorentina.

Mertens caused a great deal of controversy in Florence, as he seemed to dive for a penalty and the VAR did not advise the referee to view it again.

Fernando Llorente had his medical today and will sign a two-year contract for Napoli, but isn’t ready yet, so Lorenzo Insigne, Fabian Ruiz and Jose Callejon support the Belgian.

The changes are at the back, Faouzi Ghoulam replaces Mario Rui, but Nikola Maksimovic is again dropped in favour of ex-Empoli full-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

Mexico international Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano is on the bench and hoping to make his debut after the transfer from PSV Eindhoven.

Juventus won both Serie A meetings with Napoli last season, but haven’t beaten them three times in a row since 1993.

The Partenopei lost seven of their last eight top flight games here, except for the infamous Kalidou Koulibaly header in April 2018, which made them believe the Scudetto was coming.

Juventus: Szczesny; De Sciglio, Bonucci, De Ligt, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Douglas Costa, Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo

Juventus bench: Pinsoglio, Buffon, Rugani, Demiral, Danilo, Emre Can, Rabiot, Bentancur, Cuadrado, Bernardeschi, Dybala, Mandzukic

Napoli: Meret; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Ghoulam; Allan, Zielinski; Callejon, Fabian Ruiz, Insigne; Mertens

Napoli bench: Ospina, Karnezis, Hysaj, Luperto, Maksimovic, Malcuit, Mario Rui, Elmas, Gaetano, Verdi, Lozano, Younes

HT 2-0: Juventus double stuns Napoli

Immagine

https://www.football-italia.net/143651/ht-juventus-double-stuns-napoli

Aug 31, 2019

Juventus scored twice in three minutes with substitute Danilo and Gonzalo Higuain, while Sami Khedira hit the bar, as they lead Napoli 2-0 at half-time.

This was a very early Scudetto showdown, but Maurizio Sarri was still not allowed on the touchline after a bout of pneumonia, so the former Napoli boss watched on from a box in the stands. Giorgio Chiellini was also out, having torn his ACL yesterday in an injury that could keep him out for six months, so Matthijs de Ligt made his Serie A debut. Faouzi Ghoulam came in for Mario Rui, but Arkadiusz Milik didn’t make the trip and new buy Hirving Lozano was on the bench.

Cristiano Ronaldo stung Alex Meret’s gloves from a tight angle, but Wojciech Szczesny made a sensational one-handed save to push Allan’s screamer round the post from the edge of the box.

Mattia De Sciglio limped off with a muscular problem to make way for Danilo, who scored 26 seconds later. Leonardo Bonucci charged down Lorenzo Insigne’s shot with his face and Juve went on a rapid counter-attack with Douglas Costa, Danilo prodding in the finish with the inside of the right boot from 10 yards. The former Manchester City man could not have made a more immediate impact off the bench in his Serie A debut.

However, Juve added a second three minutes later with ex-Napoli striker Higuain. Pipita gathered with his back to goal, turned on a sixpence to leave Kalidou Koulibaly rooted to the spot and blasted into the far top corner.

Considering Napoli only won 4-3 at Fiorentina in their season opener, the defensive record is going to concern Carlo Ancelotti.

It was very nearly 3-0, as Sami Khedira was sent clear through the middle, but Alex Meret came flying out for a desperate save one-on-one.

Khedira went even closer soon after, his curler bouncing off the crossbar and ricocheting kindly for Meret to get it clear.

Juventus 2-0 Napoli (Half-Time)

Danilo 16 (J), Higuain 19 (J)

Juventus: Szczesny; De Sciglio (Danilo 11), Bonucci, De Ligt, Alex Sandro; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Douglas Costa, Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo

Napoli: Meret; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Ghoulam; Allan, Zielinski; Callejon, Fabian Ruiz, Insigne; Mertens
