Dybala to start against Ferencvaros

Le pagelle di Lazio-Juventus: Cristiano Ronaldo e Cuadrado brillano, malissimo Dybala. Caicedo salva ancora la Lazio - Invictus Blog

Nov 23, 2020

Paulo Dybala will reportedly partner Cristiano Ronaldo in Juventus’ attack against Ferencvaros tomorrow.

La Joya has seven appearances in all competitions so far this season but has only started three games since the beginning of the campaign.

He scored his only seasonal goal in the first leg against Ferencvaros in Hungary three weeks ago.

The former Palermo star has been struggling with injuries this season.

He had begun the campaign with an injury he picked un in July and suffered genitourinary and gastrointestinal problems that didn’t let him train regularly in the first months of the season.

According to Sky Sport, the Argentinean is the favourite to start alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in Juventus’ attack with Alvaro Morata who would initially start the game from the bench. .......

Nov 24, 2020

Paulo Dybala returns to the starting line-up with Cristiano Ronaldo, while the Juventus defence is down to the bare bones against Ferencvaros.

It kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 20.00 GMT.

The Bianconeri lost heavily to Barcelona, so are second in their Champions League group with six points, but still comfortably ahead of Dynamo Kiev and Ferencvaros on one.

It means they could qualify for the Round of 16 tonight if they win and Barcelona don’t lose to Dynamo Kiev.

They won 4-1 in Hungary with an Alvaro Morata brace, but the Spain international is benched tonight in favour of Dybala and Ronaldo. .......

HT 1-1: Ferencvaros surprise Juventus

Nov 24, 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo’s equaliser is the only bright spot for Juventus, who had gone behind against Ferencvaros and draw 1-1 at the break. .......

Ferencvaros took a shock lead moments later, as Danilo slipped, allowing Tokmac Nguen to get down the right and his cross found Myrto Uzuni in front of his marker to fire in.

Juve struggled to mount much of a fightback, other than a weak Danilo header on a corner and Ronaldo scoring when several metres offside.

He was just getting warmed up, as moments later unleashed a left-foot rocket from outside the area that bounced just in front of the goalkeeper and flew into the near bottom corner.

Juventus 2-1 Ferencvaros: Morata to the rescue

Immagine

Nov 24, 2020

Alvaro Morata came off the bench for a last-gasp header, as Juventus stuttered to a 2-1 win over Ferencvaros to reach the Champions League last 16.

Andrea Pirlo made three changes at once, introducing Federico Chiesa, Alvaro Morata and Dejan Kulusevski together.

Morata’s splendid through ball sent Ronaldo clear on goal, but again Dibusz stood his ground really well and managed to win the one-on-one battle.

Juan Cuadrado managed to get the cross in from the right despite an awkward bounce and Morata intelligently nodded it down into the ground from six yards, so it squirmed under the goalkeeper. It was the winner they needed deep into stoppages, as Juventus go through to the Round of 16.

De Ligt: 'Juve need tempo and courage'

Champions League-avond vol Nederlanders en doelpunten | NOS

Nov 24, 2020

Matthijs de Ligt concedes Juventus ‘needed to speed the ball up and play with more courage’ after a scraped 2-1 win over Ferencvaros.

The game was decided deep into stoppages when Alvaro Morata came off the bench and nodded in a Juan Cuadrado cross, after Cristiano Ronaldo had cancelled out the Myrto Uzuni opener.

This result, and Barcelona’s 3-1 victory away to Dynamo Kiev, means both Juve and the Blaugrana have already booked their place in the Round of 16 with two games to spare. ........

Pirlo: 'We moved the ball too slowly'

Pirlo (Juventus) regrette une entame « trop légère » face à Ferencvaros - L'Équipe

Nov 24, 2020

Andrea Pirlo was refreshingly honest about the ways Juventus disappointed against Ferencvaros, especially Arthur and Paulo Dybala.

The substitutions proved decisive, specifically Alvaro Morata, who came off the bench to score the 92nd-minute winner after Cristiano Ronaldo had cancelled out the Myrto Uzuni opener.

It was a very hard-fought win for the Bianconeri, although they did hit the woodwork twice with Federico Bernardeschi and Morata.

“We had intended to start with a different attitude, but we know there can be difficulties in games that seem on paper to be simple. We were too superficial at the start and had to chase the game,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.

“Our first press wasn’t vehement, which is normal after so many matches to lose a little intensity, but the important thing was not to get stretched out and allow counter-attacks. We did it a few times in the first half, but then managed to settle down.

“I expected more from the players, but Ferencvaros clammed up, we had to try to move the ball back and forth more quickly to spread them. We moved it too slowly, which made it easier for them to defend. ........

HT 1-1: Benevento bite back at Juventus

Nov 28, 2020

Alvaro Morata made the most of an inspired Federico Chiesa cross-field pass, but Benevento have a deserved equaliser through Gaetano Letizia’s volley. ........

It was a special reunion on the touchline between former Milan and Italy teammates, Pippo Inzaghi and Andrea Pirlo. There was a minute’s silence for Diego Armando Maradona and at the 10th minute in every game this weekend, play halted for a round of applause to the ultimate 10.

Gianluca Lapadula nodded a corner over the bar, but Juventus opened the scoring with a beautifully-worked goal. Federico Chiesa’s cross-field pass from deep released Morata down the left, he shimmied past Artur Ionita and placed the angled drive in off the inside of the far post.

Paulo Dybala really should’ve made it 2-0 when Morata flicked on an Aaron Ramsey pass with his chest, but the left-foot curler whistled just wide. ..........

In first half stoppages, Benevento were pouring forward in waves and Wojciech Szczesny had to make an extraordinary fingertip save to push Schiattarella’s right-foot finish around the base of the far post, as it was going into the bottom corner.

However, on the resulting corner, Arthur’s poor clearance sat up nicely for Gaetano Letizia, who hit a scorching volley into the far bottom corner.

Benevento 1-1 Juventus: Morata sees red

Immagine

Nov 28, 2020

Alvaro Morata was on target yet again for Juventus, but also saw red after the final whistle, as they missed Cristiano Ronaldo in a disappointing 1-1 draw away to Benevento.

The Bianconeri rested Cristiano Ronaldo for this trip, with Gigi Buffon and Merih Demiral injured, but Leonardo Bonucci was back on the bench.

However, on the resulting corner, Arthur’s poor clearance sat up nicely for Gaetano Letizia, who hit a scorching volley into the far bottom corner.

Benevento had a three against two counter-attack, but wasted it all with Lapadula’s poor choice of pass. Morata also hit a rocket wide from distance, but the second half was increasingly frantic and scrappy, low on quality or chances from either side.

Matthijs de Ligt used his body to charge down Marco Sau’s attempt on the counter, while in the final minutes Dybala’s snooker shot was fingertipped out of the near bottom corner by Lorenzo Montipò on a Federico Bernardeschi assist.

Juve again had penalty appeals in stoppages, but once more Morata and Alessandro Tuia just seemed to collide. After the final whistle, Morata said something to the referee and was shown a straight red card, so he will receive at least a one-match ban.

Benevento: Montipò; Letizia, Glik, Caldirola (Maggio 33) (R Insigne 60), Barba; Hetemaj, Schiattarella, Improta; Ionita (Tuia 72), Caprari (Tello 72), Lapadula (Sau 72)

Pirlo: 'Juve must read match moments'

Pirlo: 'Normale la dipendenza della Juve da Ronaldo, ha avuto un problema fisico. Kulusevski? Arriva dal Parma...' | Primapagina | Calciomercato.com

Nov 28, 2020

Andrea Pirlo insists Juventus ‘haven’t worked out how to read the various moments of the match’ after a 1-1 draw with Benevento.

The Bianconeri were held to their fifth draw of the Serie A season, so if we exclude the game awarded by default against Napoli due to COVID, they’ve won only three out of eight rounds.

Alvaro Morata opened the scoring yet again, but Gaetano Letizia’s volley got Benevento back on track for 1-1.

Morata was then sent off after the final whistle for dissent and will be suspended for at least one game, missing next week’s Derby della Mole with Torino.

“We controlled the first half, had the chances to kill off the game, but still haven’t worked out how to read the various moments of the match,” Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had a corner and took it quickly on the stroke of half-time, but we should’ve controlled the situation and held out until the break. It’s not the first time we have conceded just before the break.

“At the end, we got a bit chaotic and lost our cool, we didn’t manage to turn the chances into goals.”

Did Cristiano Ronaldo really need to be left at home or could he at least have been on the bench in Benevento?

“He had a slight problem midweek and wanted to play in the Champions League anyway. After international duty, it was natural he’d need some rest. Ronaldo is an added value, but we must try to play our game even in his absence.

“It happens when you have a lot of players on international duty and also play the Champions League, we’re hardly the only club in this situation.

“Real Madrid were dependent on Ronaldo, he is a catalyst for goals and a focal point for moves, so it’s only to be expected he will be a central figure and many moves go through him.” .........

Benevento 1-1 Juventus: Player Ratings as Bianconeri Held to a Draw

De Ligt maakt indruk bij Juventus: 'Dit is een interventie van levensbelang'

Nov 28, 2020

Juventus slipped up at newly-promoted Benevento on Saturday afternoon, as the newly-promoted side held Andrea Pirlo's side to a 1-1 draw.

Alvaro Morata gave Juventus the lead on the 20-minute mark, taking on his marker and rattling a super left-footed effort into the bottom far corner. I Bianconeri looked fairly untroubled by their hosts, until a Gaetano Letizia volley snaked into the corner of the net on the stroke of half-time. .........

Wojciech Szczesny (GK) - 7/10 - Pulled off a stunning save late in the first half, only for Benevento to score from the resulting corner. Little chance with a shot that sneaked in at the back stick. Showed some real minerals to pull off a double dummy in the second half.

Juan Cuadrado (RB) - 5/10 - Forced into making a lot of recovery tackles, and caught upfield on occasion. Gave the ball away a lot in the second half. So many simple passes misplaced. Lucky to only receive a yellow for a hefty shove.

Danilo (CB) - 6/10 - Mr. Dependable. Seems fully adapted to the centre-back life, defending his zone well and building attacks from the back.

Matthijs de Ligt (CB) - 8/10 - The monster is back, baby. Injury hasn't slowed De Ligt down, and he is as powerful and commanding as ever. Won plenty of tackles and stayed strong as his opponents came forward, including a huge second-half block.

Gianluca Frabotta (LB) - 6/10 - Looks a reliable defender, without really sparkling or standing out from the crowd. Got beaten by his man a couple of times in the second half as Benevento began to grow into the game.

Federico Chiesa (RM) - 7/10 - Picked out Morata with a pinpoint ball from the right flank. Beautiful stuff. Looked much more comfortable out wide than central.

Adrien Rabiot (CM) - 7/10 - Executed an insane bit of control with his head in the first half, which almost resulted in a goal. A dominant figure in the middle, winning possession and launching Juve forward. Influence on proceedings waned as the game progressed.

Arthur (CM) - 6/10 - Pulled the strings in the middle, switching play from side to side and always providing an option for his teammates. Presented the ball back to Benevento with a stray touch for their equaliser. Subbed.

Aaron Ramsey (LM) - 6/10 - Playing out of position on that left side, and couldn't occupy his usual spaces. Should have buried a first-half chance, but fired straight at the keeper. Subbed.

Alvaro Morata (ST) - 7/10 - This man just loves Turin, doesn't he? Morata looks a new player back at Juve, and his clinical strike which kicked off the scoring proved it. Five star weak foot. Couldn't add to his tally, though. Sent off after the final whistle.

Paulo Dybala (ST) - 6/10 - Looked sharper. Should have rounded off a wonderful move he instigated brilliantly, but fired just wide. Constantly swarmed and surrounded when in possession. Shooting radar was well off.

Rodrigo Bentancur (CM) - 7/10

Dejan Kulusevski (RM) - 6/10

Federico Bernardeschi (LM) - 6/10

What Morata said to the referee to get sent off v Benevento

FLASH – Juve, espulsione al fischio finale col Benevento: cosa succede col malus a Morata – SOS Fanta

Nov 29, 2020

Alvaro Morata was sent off for protesting after the final whistle of Benevento-Juventus and Sky Sport reveals what the Spanish striker said to the referee. .........

Fabrizio Pasqua didn’t concede a penalty and sent off Morata who, according to Sky Sport, told him: “That was an embarrassing penalty.”

Morata will now serve at least a one-match ban that will surely force him to miss next weekend’s Torino derby against the Granata at the Allianz Stadium.

Pirlo: 'I'm not worried'

Juventus, Pirlo: “A Benevento dovevamo vincere. Dybala? Gioca Morata” | Footballnews24.it

Dec 2, 2020

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo says he’s ‘not worried’ after the draw with Benevento and vows to ‘improve and learn from the mistakes’.

Dynamo Kiev arrive at the Allianz Stadium tomorrow and the Bianconeri aim to bounce back from a lacklustre performance against newly promoted Benevento on Sunday.

Pirlo confirmed Juan Cuadrado and Danilo could be rested against the Ukrainians and spoke about his own words after the match against the Streghe.

“I don’t think I said such strong words in Benevento,” Pirlo said at a press conference. “You need to have more desire to achieve the result and manage the moments of the match in a better way.

“I don’t think I was hard, it’s just a fact. Tomorrow we will think about putting the best players on the pitch, because all the games are important.

“However, Cuadrado and Danilo could rest, they have played a lot.

“I’m absolutely not worried. In Benevento, it was a game to win, we weren’t good at closing the match and then they finished well.

“But it can happen, we analysed the game, and we will try to improve and learn from the mistakes we have made.” .......

Juventus still potentially have their sights on top spot in the Champions League group, as Leonardo Bonucci returns with Alvaro Morata and Cristiano Ronaldo against Dynamo Kiev.

It kicks off in Turin at 20.00 GMT.

The Bianconeri have already booked their place in the Round of 16, but are three points behind Barcelona in the group.

Paulo Dybala is rested, because he will certainly start this weekend against Torino due to Morata’s two-match Serie A ban.

Therefore, Morata partners Ronaldo upfront, the Ballon d’Or winner sorely missed in the 1-1 draw with Benevento.

Gigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini are out injured, but Bonucci and Merih Demiral are back in action, while Juan Cuadrado and Danilo are rested. .......

HT 1-0: Chiesa opens Juventus account

Dec 2, 2020

Federico Chiesa’s header has given Juventus the half-time lead against Dynamo Kiev, while Cristiano Ronaldo rattled the crossbar. .......

This game was historic, as it is the first in the Champions League with a female referee, French official Stephanie Frappart.

Federico Chiesa’s snapshot was deflected wide and a series of corners created dangerous situations, but the deadlock was finally broken on 21 minutes. Alvaro Morata sprung the offside trap and Alex Sandro whipped in the cross from the left for a rare Chiesa header from seven yards.

Cristiano Ronaldo was unlucky not to double Juve’s lead, as his screamer almost cracked the crossbar from 10 yards on another Alex Sandro assist.

CL: Ronaldo hits 750 with Kiev

Immagine

Dec 2, 2020

Federico Chiesa scored one and created two, but Cristiano Ronaldo marked his 750th career goal as Juventus crushed Dynamo Kiev 3-0.

The Bianconeri had already qualified for the Round of 16, although first place was still potentially up for grabs from Barcelona. Giorgio Chiellini and Gigi Buffon were out injured, with Danilo, Juan Cuadrado and Paulo Dybala rested, but Leonardo Bonucci returned.

Juventus doubled their lead with an historic goal, the 750th in Cristiano Ronaldo’s career. It was certainly not one of his best, because Chiesa flew down the right, rolled across, the goalkeeper parried it on to Morata’s shin from point-blank range and Ronaldo tapped in the loose ball undisturbed.

Morata got his own goal soon after, a delicate first touch to commit the defender, leaving a gap to fire home from 12 yards. It was yet another Chiesa assist from his run down the right.

Pirlo: 'Right Juventus performance'

Champions League: referee Stéphanie Frappart makes history in Juventus win | Champions League | The Guardian

Dec 2, 2020

Andrea Pirlo ‘saw the right performance’ from Juventus as they beat Dynamo Kiev 3-0 in the Champions League and feels ‘ready’ for Barcelona.

Federico Chiesa, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata got the goals in Turin, although they were already qualified for the Round of 16.

“I’ve never seen a team dominate for 90 minutes, especially not in the Champions League, so there is going to be some defending to do,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am pleased with the performance and we had the right psychological approach. Even if we are already qualified, we must always play to win, so I saw the right team performance and it was a positive sign we needed for ourselves.”

Pirlo’s comments yesterday, that criticism meant he was ‘annoying’ some people, stirred up some controversy.

“I know that I am young and need to improve, so I try to carry on with my work one day at a time. That’s all I meant.” ........

Pirlo: 'An important derby'

Juventus-Torino 2-1 - 30/11/2014 - YouTube

Dec 4, 2020

Juventus coach Andrea Pirlo looks forward to a 'tense' Derby della Mole against a 'well-built' Torino on Saturday. 'There are many emotions involved'.

The Bianconeri responded to the critics in the Champions League and are still unbeaten in Serie A 2020-21, but they sit six points behind League leaders Milan and must bounce back from a surprising 1-1 draw with Benevento from last weekend.

“This is an important derby for the two sets of fans, it’s always tense,” Pirlo told Juventus TV. “It’s nice to play, there are many emotions involved.

“I was lucky enough to be part of it several times, to win and score important goals.”

The Old Lady arrive from a 3-0 win over Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League.

“Now, we try to recover some strength from the game the other night,” he said. “We mentally prepare for an important game.

“Torino are built well and have an excellent coach. They express proactive football with excellent players in all departments.” ........

Juventus rely on Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo, as Alvaro Morata is suspended for the Derby della Mole against troubled Torino.

Neither of the Turin teams are doing well so far this season, but there are reports coach Marco Giampaolo could be sacked if the Granata lose heavily today.

It is a return to the bench for Giampaolo, three weeks after his COVID-19 diagnosis.

Andrea Pirlo is under some pressure too, having stuttered to draws with minnows like Crotone and Benevento.

Alvaro Morata starts his two-match ban, so Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo must lead the way.

Federico Chiesa is preferred to Federico Bernardeschi, with Dejan Kulusevski on the other flank, but Merih Demiral, Giorgio Chiellini and Gigi Buffon are still out injured. ........

HT 0-1: Torino stun AWOL Juventus

Nicolas Nkoulou has given Torino a shock half-time lead over a totally ineffective Juventus in the Derby della Mole.

The Derby della Mole found both teams stuttering in Serie A, as the Bianconeri were fresh off a draw with Benevento and the Granata had the worst defensive record in the division.

Giorgio Chiellini, Merih Demiral and Gigi Buffon were injured, with Alvaro Morata suspended, so Paulo Dybala stepped in. Toro missed Simone Verdi, Nicola Murru and Daniele Baselli, but coach Marco Giampaolo returned three weeks after his COVID diagnosis.

It was Torino who took the shock lead in the ninth minute. Wilfried Singo earned a corner with a lovely twist and turn, from that set play, Soualiho Meite flicked it on and Nicolas Nkoulou was quickest to react by prodding in from six yards. The Juventus defence was caught napping.

It was almost 2-0 soon after, as Simone Zaza sprung the offside trap in midfield and Wojciech Szczesny had to make the save one-on-one.

Juventus recovered from an awful first half and Nicolas Nkoulou opener, turning it around to beat Torino with Weston McKennie and Leonardo Bonucci headers in a dramatic Derby della Mole.

After Linetty wasted a promising counter-attack, Belotti acrobatically volleyed over the bar. A Ricardo Rodriguez free kick was charged down, but Juventus thought they had equalised on 56 minutes when a corner was cleared to the edge of the area for Juan Cuadrado to blast in.

However, after viewing it on VAR, the referee decided Leonardo Bonucci’s offside position was interfering with play, as he prevented Lyanco from getting to it for an interception.

On the resulting corner, Juve scored, as it as taken short for Cuadrado to sweep in the cross, finding substitute Weston McKennie for a free header from six yards to equalise.

It turned into a siege from then on and Toro confirmed their inability to hold onto leads, conceding more late goals than any other Serie A side this season.

Dybala thought he had to score with a volley from six yards on Ronaldo’s cross, but Lyanco somehow managed to get the block and avoid scoring an own goal in the process.

However, on that corner, Juventus essentially repeated the equaliser to take the lead. It was another short corner, floated Cuadrado cross and Bonucci with the free header from essentially the same position as McKennie. It was redemption for the defender, whose offside position had caused the earlier Cuadrado goal to be disallowed. ....................

Andrea Pirlo warns Juventus cannot forget their ‘DNA’ after a comeback to beat Torino 2-1. ‘We cannot go into a derby lacking character.’

The Bianconeri failed to many any real impact for over an hour, going a goal down to an early Nicolas Nkoulou effort from a corner and risking a couple more.

However, both their goals late on were very similar, headers from Juan Cuadrado floated crosses to the back post by Weston McKennie and Leonardo Bonucci.

“It’s more exhausting as a player, very different as a coach, but the feeling of victory is the same,” smiled Pirlo on Sky Sport Italia.

“When you lose every challenge, it becomes difficult to control the game. We were too static, we never filled the box when we did manage to find some width to put a cross in and it’s difficult against a five-man defence.

“We remembered after the break that the Juventus DNA is to put in heart and sacrifice. Once you can pin Toro back into their own half, it becomes easier to get the breakthrough. ........
