TORINO 0-1 JUVENTUS: LOCATELLI DECIDES DERBY DELLA MOLE

Immagine

Manuel Locatelli’s precise strike in the final minutes gave Juventus the Derby della Mole, but Torino will regret wasting their first half dominance.

Both these city rivals had injury problems, above all in attack, where Andrea Belotti, Simone Zaza, Marko Pjaca, Dennis Praet, Simone Edera and suspended Koffi Djidji missed out for the Granata. The Bianconeri were without Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala and Aaron Ramsey, but had Arthur Melo and Kaio Jorge back on the bench, but Moise Kean started with support from Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi after the midweek 1-0 win in Chelsea.

Kean had an early counter that he fired wide, while Weston McKennie and Wilfred Singo had efforts off target.

Max Allegri removed Kean and moved Chiesa to a centre-forward role for the restart, which proved effective, as Vanja Milinkovic-Savic had to make his first save on an Alex Sandro bullet header.

Giorgio Chiellini needed a last-ditch tackle on Lukic and Juve had penalty appeals waved away for Tommaso Pobega bundling into the back of Juan Cuadrado, as the referee thought the Colombian had slowed down intentionally.

Rabiot pulled back from the by-line for Chiesa, intercepted by a crucial Cristian Ansaldi defensive intervention.

Juve were pushing further forward as the game wore on and Torino once again conceded in the final 15 minutes, as Chiesa set up Locatelli on the edge of the box for a precise right-foot strike that went in off the inside of the upright, giving Milinkovic-Savic no chance.

Dejan Kulusevski almost added another moments later, his effort thumping the base of the same post, but this time going out.

Not only was this a big victory for Juve, but also their first Serie A clean sheet since March, ending a run of 20 consecutive Serie A matches conceding.

LOCATELLI: ‘MY JUVENTUS SUPPORTING FAMILY WILL BE HAPPY’

Torino-Juventus, pagelle e tabellino | Locatelli 'alla' Del Piero, flop Kean

Manuel Locatelli admits his winning goal in the derby will make his ‘family of Juventus supporters very happy’ today, even if he did get headbutted by Giorgio Chiellini.

The Granata dominated the first half, but the Bianconeri emerged as time wore on, thanks also to the tactical changes that saw Juan Cuadrado introduced and Federico Chiesa moved into a centre-forward role.

Locatelli got the winning goal in the final minutes, firing in off the inside of the upright, while Dejan Kulusevski also hit the woodwork late on.

The celebrations after the goal were a little chaotic, with Chiellini it seems getting too close to his teammate.

“Giorgio headbutted me, so I will surely have a bruise tomorrow!” Locatelli told DAZN.

“The squad welcomed me so well, we’re a great group of friends and everyone is humble, so that’s what really matters.

“We won the derby, it’s a wonderful feeling. It’s the derby, but we also needed a step forward in the table.”

Locatelli revealed when he joined Juve that he had always been a fan of the Bianconeri.

“My Dad and uncle always come to cheer me on. I have a whole family of Juventus supporters at home right now who are very happy.”

ALLEGRI: ‘BEST JUVENTUS OF THE SEASON’

Serie A, Torino-Juventus 0-1: Locatelli decide il derby, tre punti d'oro

Max Allegri believes Juventus beat Torino with one of their best performances of the season so far and explains where Moise Kean and Matthijs de Ligt need to improve.

The Bianconeri struggled in the first half with only 39 per cent possession, but introducing Juan Cuadrado and moving Federico Chiesa to centre-forward made the difference.

Chiesa assisted Manuel Locatelli for the crucial goal, in off the inside of the upright at the 86th minute, and Juve kept a clean sheet after conceding for 20 consecutive Serie A matches, going back to March.

“We were a bit too static in the first half, especially down the right, and Kean did better towards the end of the first half, but we lost possession a few too many times,” Allegri told DAZN.

“Toro lost intensity as time wore on and we moved more, so the more you move, the more you make the opposition lose sight of reference points.

“Locatelli settled in well, he can improve a great deal. He is beginning to vary the moves, so short and long passes, he just needs to improve his positioning.”

There has been a definite change of pace and temperament in the Juventus squad over the last few games, including the 1-0 Champions League victory over Chelsea.

“After the break for international duty, we discovered the desire to defend when we needed to defend and attack when we needed to attack.

“It would’ve been disappointing not to win a game after that performance which, after the first half against Milan, I feel was our best of the season.”

PROBABLE LINE-UPS: JUVENTUS VS. ROMA

Juventus vs. Roma Tips, Preview and Predictions

Moise Kean, Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi are expected to start in the Juventus attack against Roma, who have Tammy Abraham available but not fit enough to start.

Alvaro Morata has partially recovered from an injury and he will be called up for tonight’s match.

However, the Spaniard is unlikely to start, with Massimiliano Allegri who could pick Kean, Chiesa and Bernardeschi up front.

Paulo Dybala is still on the treatment table with muscle problems. Matthijs de Ligt has been ruled out of the match with adductor problems.

Alex Sandro, Danilo and Rodrigo Bentancur returned from international duty on Friday night, but only the Brazilian left-back will rest with Danilo and Bentancur on the pitch.

Juventus vs. Roma: probable line-ups

Juventus: Szczesny; Danilo, Bonucci, Chiellini, De Sciglio; Cuadrado, Bentancur, Locatelli, Chiesa; Bernardeschi; Kean.

Roma: Rui Patricio; Karsdorp, Mancini, Ibanez, Vina; Cristante, Veretout; Zaniolo, Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan; Shomurodov.

JUVENTUS 1-0 ROMA: KEAN, HEADBALL AND SPOT-KICK DECISIVE

Immagine

Juventus earned a chaotic 1-0 victory over Roma with Moise Kean’s bizarre goal and Wojciech Szczesny saving Jordan Veretout’s penalty.

The Bianconeri were forced to do without Paulo Dybala, Matthijs de Ligt and COVID-positive Adrien Rabiot, while Alvaro Morata was only fit for the bench and Alex Sandro had jetlag after international duty. Tammy Abraham recovered from an ankle sprain he sustained playing for England, but Leonardo Spinazzola and Chris Smalling were injured.

It was an aggressive start from the visitors, Wojciech Szczesny palming a Gianluca Mancini header out from under the bar on Lorenzo Pellegrini’s free kick.

However, Juve took the lead with their first real chance, as Mattia De Sciglio whipped in a fantastic cross from the left with Rodrigo Bentancur’s header going in off the back of Moise Kean’s head, the players lining up to meet it from six yards.

Just before half-time, there were chaotic scenes. Abraham ran into the box and it fell to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, brought down by Szczesny for a penalty. Abraham did put the ball into the net on the rebound, but Daniele Orsato had already blown the whistle. Had he waited a couple of seconds and played the advantage to see what happened, it would’ve been an equaliser. However, Mkhitaryan also fell onto the ball with his hand, knocking it back into the path of Abraham, so that could’ve been considered handball and play brought back to the penalty foul anyway.

Jordan Veretout stepped up and had his penalty saved by Szczesny. It was the first time, at the 14th attempt, that Veretout had failed to convert a penalty for Roma.

Straight after the restart, Federico Bernardeschi’s sensational over-head kick was beaten away by Rui Patricio, Kean unable to turn in the rebound.

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVENTUS ARE GETTING THERE’

Diretta Juventus-Roma: 1-0, ha segnato Kean, poi Veretout ...

Max Allegri explains why he ‘likes a 1-0 result’ and feels Juventus are ‘getting there’ this season, albeit admitting Jose Mourinho’s Roma ‘deserved a draw’ in Turin.

The Bianconeri secured a fourth consecutive Serie A victory, as Moise Kean accidentally redirected the Rodrigo Bentancur header from point-blank range to decide the game.

Wojciech Szczesny was crucial too, parrying a Jordan Veretout penalty, awarded after a chaotic move which arguably could’ve been allowed to continue for a Tammy Abraham tap-in, but equally also had a Henrikh Mkhitaryan handball issue.

“I like 1-0, as it’s a good result, especially as we kept another clean sheet,” Allegri told DAZN.

“Roma are a technically good team, they have a lot of quality and caused us problems early on, then we scored a good goal and improved as time wore on.”

Allegri and Mourinho have both said they are focused more on results than aesthetics, which was again evident this evening.

“It’s an important victory, another step forward in the table and a further progress for the season. We were missing Dybala, De Ligt, Rabiot, Morata only came on at the end, but when everyone plays with that spirit, you don’t concede as many goals.

“Szczesny made all his mistakes for the season in one fell swoop and is now bringing back what he can to the team. We need to improve in the final third, the timing and movement, but we’ll get there.”

Despite the tension and controversy, Mourinho and Allegri gave each other a high-five at the final whistle.

“We knew beforehand it would be tough. Roma could’ve deserved a draw, but these are games that depend on incidents and tonight fortunately they went our way. I do say they put in a good performance and are one of the best teams in the league.”

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | ZENIT 0-1 JUVENTUS: KULUSEVSKI TO THE RESCUE

Immagine

Dejan Kulusevski left it late, but came off the bench to nod in Mattia De Sciglio’s cross and give Juventus another 1-0 Champions League victory away to Zenit.

The Bianconeri were group leaders with a perfect record going into St Petersburg, with Alvaro Morata, Matthijs de Ligt and Weston McKennie returning to the starting XI, but Paulo Dybala and Adrien Rabiot still injured, Juan Cuadrado and Giorgio Chiellini rested. Zenit had three points and a narrow defeat to Chelsea, but missed Magomed Ozdoev and surprisingly picked Artem Dzyuba rather than Sardor Azmoun.

It was the hosts who had the first big chance, Federico Bernardeschi’s slip allowing Claudinho to get a screamer away, stinging Wojciech Szczesny’s gloves.

After the restart, McKennie was sent clear by an inspired Alvaro Morata disguised pass, but prodded straight at the on-rushing goalkeeper.

The deadlock was finally broken in the final minutes, as De Sciglio put another excellent cross in from the left and Kulusevski timed his leap perfectly, just steering it in off the inside of the far post. It was the Swede’s first ever Champions League goal.

ALLEGRI: ‘GOOD JUVENTUS WIN, BAD PERFORMANCE’

Max-Allegri-2.jpg

Max Allegri admits Juventus beat Zenit 1-0 in the Champions League with ‘a bad performance’ and explains what Dejan Kulusevski still needs to learn.

It is the fourth consecutive 1-0 victory for the Bianconeri in all competition, keeping their Champions League perfect start intact with a third win out of three.

Kulusevski came off the bench to nod in the Mattia De Sciglio cross in St Petersburg late on.

“It was important for the points, it wasn’t easy as Zenit clammed up in defence and we made a lot of errors in the final third. We slowed it down too much and allowed too many shots on goal with counter-attacks by losing the ball,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We should’ve controlled it more once we went 1-0 up, too. It was not a great performance, but we got the result and that puts us in a very strong position.

“We needed to create width today and play between the lines. At times it went well, at others it didn’t.”

“Kulusevski must learn how to control the game, when to speed up, when to slow down. He has the talent, he just needs to make better choices and he’s more than capable of that.”

DEL PIERO: ‘JUVENTUS CLEARLY RECOVERING’

Zenit-Juve, l'analisi di Del Piero: "Bianconeri in netta ...

Former captain Alessandro Del Piero said Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus ‘are clearly recovering’ after the difficult start to the season. ‘When you don’t concede, it’s much easier to win games’.

The Bianconeri sit first in Group H with nine points in three games after a 1-0 win over Zenit St Petersburg in Russia on Wednesday.

“Juventus are in clear recovery in all aspects,” Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia and pointed at the defensive record in recent weeks.

“Not conceding goals to win is the old rule, but it’s always important,” Del Piero said. “It gives awareness to your defensive phase; it gives you peace of mind.

“Juventus have the talent up front to score the goals. It’s simple match: if I sooner or later score and don’t concede, it’s much easier to win games.”

Juve had stumbled at the beginning, still readjusting to life without Cristiano Ronaldo, but have now found their rhythm under Max Allegri with four consecutive 1-0 wins in all competition. Paulo Dybala remains in doubt, while Adrien Rabiot has recovered from COVID-19, but Allegri could go for experience in defence.

ALLEGRI: ‘INTER ARE SCUDETTO FAVOURITES, NOT A DECISIVE MATCH’

Inter-Juve, Allegri: "I nerazzurri sono ancora i favoriti ...

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said Inter are ‘the favourites’ in Serie A but stressed the match on Sunday ‘is not decisive’ for the Scudetto battle. ‘They can’t kill us, the season is decided in the last three months’.

“It will be a beautiful evening, especially because there will be around 60,000 spectators and so many expectations from everyone.

“It will be a good match between two great teams. Inter are still the favourite to win the Scudetto, in my opinion. It’s an important test against a strong team.”

But the coach doesn’t believe the match against the Nerazzurri will be decisive in the Scudetto battle this term.

“In my opinion, no,” he said. “It would allow us to extend the streak of results. In terms of the table, the one against Roma was much more decisive.

“Dybala will be available, he’s fine and had two training sessions with the team,” he said. “We are almost complete in terms of availability.

“I have yet to decide the formation,” Allegri continued. “I might not even decide today, I will do it tomorrow morning.

“When De Ligt is ready to play at the right in a back-three, we can play with three defenders too. For now, they play in two.”

INTER 1-1 JUVENTUS: DYBALA PEN DECIDES DERBY D’ITALIA

Immagine

Edin Dzeko had given Inter the early lead, but Paulo Dybala converted a penalty at the 89th minute for the Juventus equaliser in the Derby d’Italia.

Arturo Vidal was absent with flu symptoms, so Hakan Calhanoglu started despite not being at 100 per cent after an ankle issue. Paulo Dybala was back on the bench after a muscular problem, with Moise Kean and Adrien Rabiot ruled out, but Max Allegri dropped Federico Chiesa and Matthijs de Ligt for Giorgio Chiellini and Dejan Kulusevski.

Samir Handanovic needed a save on Alvaro Morata and Edin Dzeko did enough to prevent Alex Sandro getting on the rebound.

With Federico Bernardeschi off the field due to a dislocated shoulder, Inter took the lead. Hakan Calhanoglu’s ferocious strike bounced off the frame of the goal and Dzeko readjusted quickly to turn in the rebound from 12 yards.

Juventus did not make substitutions, but did adjust tactically to a 4-4-2 for the second half.

Allegri had to shake things up, so introduced Federico Chiesa and Paulo Dybala. It made an immediate difference, Handanovic parrying the Dybala free kick, as Inter sat deeper and deeper, inviting Juve on.

The turning point came in the final minutes, as Denzel Dumfries went in late to clear from Alex Sandro and caught the Brazilian on the boot. The referee had allowed play to continue, but he was called by VAR to view it again, seeing the contact was just inside the area. A penalty was awarded, which Dybala converted to equalise.

This is a result that suits neither side, because it leaves them both quite a long way off joint leaders Napoli and Milan.

ALLEGRI EXPLAINS JUVENTUS CHOICES AGAINST INTER

Chiesa & Dybala Cadangan Saat Inter 1-1 Juventus, Max ...

Juventus coach Max Allegri explains his tactical decisions in the 1-1 draw with Inter, seeing it as ‘a good point’ to earn in the Scudetto race.

The Old Lady was able to leave San Siro with a point thanks to the late Paulo Dybala penalty, awarded using VAR for a high Denzel Dumfries foot on Alex Sandro.

Inter had taken an early lead through Edin Dzeko, reacting on the rebound from a Hakan Calhanoglu effort, but the hosts tried to protect their lead and sat increasingly deep as the game wore on.

“The first half performance was good, the second even better. We had a few chances that we should’ve done better with, then we pushed up with more confidence against a very good Inter,” Allegri told DAZN.

“Let’s not forget the Nerazzurri are strong technically and physically, so we needed a performance like this. We were a little too frantic at the start in the press, but that too is another stage in the growth process.”

This result means Juve are now 10 points off joint leaders Napoli and Milan after just nine rounds.

“It’s a good point, it keeps us within three points of Inter and allows us to continue this positive run of results, while we have the opportunity to close up on the leading pack before the break for international duty.”

“I knew it could be quite a physical game to start with, so I needed someone like Kulusevski to put more pressure on Brozovic. As the tempo dropped, I put on Dybala and Chiesa, the confidence was growing too. It’s a good point, but now we absolutely must win on Wednesday against Sassuolo.”

“Even down to 10 men, we could’ve avoided conceding that goal, it was quite fortuitous. It was a hard-fought game, very physical, we need to finish our moves better because when the ball goes into the penalty area, we have to finish the chance.”

There was a curious moment when Kaio Jorge came on as a late substitute, as he handed Leonardo Bonucci a note, which the defender then tucked into his socks.

“I didn’t write it, that was my assistant! It was about set plays and that’s Landucci’s territory. Maybe that’s why he keeps telling me to delay substitutions, so he can write…”

ALLEGRI: ‘CHIESA AND DYBALA TO START, I GOT IT WRONG AGAINST INTER’

Conferenza Allegri pre Juventus-Sassuolo: “Chiesa e Dybala titolari. Col Sassuolo solo per vincere” - YouTube

Massimiliano Allegri reveals Federico Chiesa and Paulo Dybala will start against Sassuolo tomorrow and admits he ‘made a mistake’ against Inter, who ‘remain Serie A favourite.’

“Alessio Dionisi won the title in Serie B with Empoli, so that’s an added value for him. Sassuolo play really well, they have good players,” Allegri said at a press conference.

“Paulo Dybala and Federico Chiesa will play, so everybody is happy. You write and I make you happy,” Allegri said, referring to journalists who had criticised him for not starting any of the two against Inter last week.

“Dybala has important technical qualities. He is different from Kulusevski, but he [Kulusevski] played a good game in Milan in the first 60 minutes.

“Chiesa is a top player, he’s played many games already. On Sunday, I was wrong, but I had read the game in a different way, with Kulusevski man-marking Brozovic.

“It’s not a problem if a player starts on the bench, there are many games. Chiesa didn’t go on the bench because he deserved it. I had read the game in a certain way. Eventually, when he was introduced, we needed more quality and he had a great impact.

“Will Morata start? Now you want too much, Perin will play in place of Szczesny and De Ligt returns [to the line-up]. Cuadrado can play with Morata, Dybala and Chiesa. Anything can happen.”

“We had a bad start, so there is no room for mistakes. The draw against Inter is important, but only if we win tomorrow.”

“Inzaghi won’t admit it, but Inter are the favourite to win Serie A. Then anything can happen in football, but they remain the favourite.”

The Bianconeri have four more games before the November break. They travel to Verona after the match against Sassuolo and then host Zenit and Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium.

JUVENTUS 1-2 SASSUOLO: LOPEZ STUNS BIANCONERI

Immagine

Juventus suffered a shock home defeat to Sassuolo, as after Weston McKennie cancelled out the Davide Frattesi opener, Maxime Lopez struck with a perfect counter-attack.

The Bianconeri brought Federico Chiesa, Paulo Dybala and Matthijs de Ligt back into the starting XI after benching them in the 1-1 draw with Inter, while Mattia Perin got a rare run-out in goal and Adrien Rabiot returned after recovering from COVID. Filip Djuricic was out with a muscular problem, replaced by Hamed Junior Traore.

Andrea Consigli had to fingertip a wayward Mattia De Sciglio cross-shot over the bar, but the ex-Milan full-back then had to limp off with a knee injury.

Dybala was unlucky not to break the deadlock on 37 minutes when his daisy-cutter from the edge of the box thumped the base of the upright.

Instead, it was Sassuolo who took the lead just before half-time with a well-worked team move. Gregoire Defrel’s through ball was perfectly weighted, so Davide Frattesi could sweep it first-time into the far bottom corner from 12 yards.

Sassuolo continued to impress in Turin, Raspadori drilling wide when sent clear, but moments later substitute Juan Cuadrado saw his strike beat Consigli only to be cleared off the line by Kaan Ayhan.

Gianluca Scamacca tested Mattia Perin and Kaio Jorge attempted an audacious overhead kick, but the equaliser arrived when Dybala whipped a free kick in for the well-timed Weston McKennie header from eight yards.

Just as Juve had poured everyone forward trying to find a winner, they left themselves wide open at the back and conceded in the final moments of the match. Berardi’s inspired cross-field pass allowed Maxime Lopez to spring the offside trap and he kept his cool to chip on-rushing Perin.

VERONA 2-1 JUVENTUS: SIMEONE DOOMS ALLEGRI

Immagine

Juventus suffered another embarrassing defeat, as Giovanni Simeone’s early brace proved too much for Weston McKennie to turn around and Verona leapfrog the Old Lady in the table.

The Bianconeri were 13 points off top spot after a shock 2-1 home defeat to Sassuolo, then lost Federico Chiesa and Mattia De Sciglio to injury, joining Moise Kean and Aaron Ramsey on the sidelines. Daniele Rugani had been tipped to start, but pulled out hours beforehand with gastroenteritis, while Matthijs de Ligt had a slight muscular issue. Hellas took some big scalps at the Bentegodi, beating Roma and Lazio, while Igor Tudor was assistant manager to Andrea Pirlo at Juve last season.

The lack of confidence was evident in the opening minutes, when Danilo panicked and put the ball out for a corner with Wojciech Szczesny ready to gather.

Verona took the lead when Szczesny got his gloves to an Antonin Barak effort, but could do nothing to prevent Simeone scoring on the rebound.

Cholito Simeone scored four goals against Lazio last weekend and picked up right where he left off, netting another moments later. He cut inside from the left and placed a magnificent right-foot curler into the far top corner from outside the box. It was simply unstoppable.

Simeone had the ball in the top corner again after 28 minutes, but the whistle had already gone for Gianluca Caprari’s foul on Arthur.

Paulo Dybala blasted over and Alex Sandro hit the side-netting, then on the stroke of half-time Dybala failed to make the most of a Miguel Veloso error, his curler bouncing off the crossbar.

Dybala aimed another just wide after the restart, then Weston McKennie almost scored with his first touch, at full stretch to meet a free kick at the back post, forcing a one-handed Montipò save.

Verona began to defend deeper and deeper, eventually conceding with 10 minutes to go when McKennie was left in far too much space on the edge of the box to control Danilo’s pass and smash into the roof of the net.

Montipò made a sensational fingertip save to push Dybala’s strike round the near top corner, while Antonin Barak also blasted just over the bar at the other end.

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVENTUS AREN’T BETTER THAN VERONA RIGHT NOW’

Tudor batte la 'sua' Juventus e raggiunge Allegri in ...

Max Allegri warns Juventus ‘have to accept the reality’ that they are currently not better than Verona and have to regain their humility to ‘battle’ for every point.

The Bianconeri suffered another surprising 2-1 defeat, this time at Hellas Verona after the midweek loss to Sassuolo, picking up one point from the last three rounds.

They were already 13 points off the leaders going into this weekend and have now been caught on 15 points by Verona, who have a superior goal difference to the Old Lady.

“Words are meaningless right now. We’re in a bad situation, we have to accept the reality that right now we are a mid-table team. We can get out of this situation with a little more determination and quality,” Allegri told DAZN.

“We will drag ourselves out of this situation. There’s no point feeling sorry for ourselves, that won’t help, we just need to focus on what we need to do and then things will sort themselves out.”

Juventus have conceded 15 goals after 11 rounds, their worst tally since 1961-62, and scored only 15 with 15 points earned.

“It’s a good squad, but things don’t always go your way in football. We have to react with pride and determination. We had to play like a team that had one point, and we did, now we have to play like a team that has 15 points.

“We realised Verona were going to make it physical and a battle for every ball, so if you don’t meet them at that level, you will lose.

“Wearing the Juventus jersey does not give us a guarantee we must beat the teams in mid-table. We have to earn every point and do it with the right attitude.

“Verona knew that was how they had to play in order to beat Juventus. Our mistake was assuming we were better than Verona, and right now we are not. We must be realistic.”

Allegri’s frustration on the touchline was evident, especially as in the final minutes he took off his coat and threw it to the ground, an image famously seen against Carpi many years ago.

DYBALA DEMANDS JUVENTUS ‘HUMILITY’

La Juve fatica a segnare, Dybala predica nel deserto: Manca una punta che garantisca tanti gol

The Bianconeri suffered a second consecutive 2-1 loss to a mid-table side, after the midweek round against Sassuolo, as Cholito Simeone bagged a brace in the opening 14 minutes. Weston McKennie’s strike into the roof of the net was not enough to turn it around.

“Verona scored two goals very early, but it’s also true that they were sharper than us, winning many tackles and duels,” Dybala told JTV.

“At that point, we tried to score in any way we could, but we cannot afford to just gift the opposition a half of football.

“We must remember we are Juventus and we must respect this shirt, its history and the great champions who wore it in the past.”

“We do it together. Each of us, before going to sleep tonight, must think about this game and how we can all give something more. We’ve got to learn the lesson, be humble and immediately focus on Tuesday in the Champions League.

“Those who play at Juve cannot be afraid.”

Juventus have lost the last two Serie A games against Sassuolo and Hellas Verona but won three games from three in the Champions League, including against title holders Chelsea.

Chiesa missed Saturday’s game at the Stadio Bentegodi, but is expected to return to action tonight, starting as a left winger in a 4-4-2 formation.

The Bianconeri might be in crisis mode in Serie A with one point from the last three rounds, but their Champions League campaign has been perfect with three wins out of three and all clean sheets.

It means a draw here would be sufficient to book their place in the Round of 16.

Moise Kean, Aaron Ramsey and Mattia De Sciglio are out injured, but Chiesa returns from a muscular issue and starts in wide midfield, supporting Dybala and Morata.

It’s an important comeback, considering Chiesa has five goals in his last six Champions League games.

Zenit are missing Magomed Ozdoev, while Malcom, Douglas Santos, Danil Krugovoi and Daler Kuzyaev are carrying fitness concerns.

Juventus won 1-0 in St Petersburg last time out with a late Dejan Kulusevski strike.

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE | JUVENTUS 4-2 ZENIT: DYBALA INSPIRATIONAL

Immagine

Juventus are in the Champions League Round of 16 after flattening Zenit St Petersburg 4-2 with Paulo Dybala scoring two and assisting Alvaro Morata, while Federico Chiesa got a great solo effort.

Juve took the lead when a corner was knocked down by Matthijs de Ligt for Dybala to fire in on the half-volley with his left boot from 13 yards. It was a great way to mark the Argentine’s 50th Champions League appearance.

Dybala shimmied between two defenders to set up Alvaro Morata, only for the Spaniard to balloon over from 12 yards.

Federico Bernardeschi tested the goalkeeper from distance, but Zenit equalised with a stroke of luck, because Vyacheslav Karavaev’s cross seemed harmless enough, Leonardo Bonucci’s headed deflection saw it loop up and dip viciously into the far top corner with Wojciech Szczesny stranded.

Federico Chiesa was brought down by Claudinho for a penalty. Dybala stepped up and initially drilled it wide of the target, but the referee ordered a retake because of encroachment. At the second attempt, La Joya got it into the bottom corner for 2-1.

Dybala fired wide from the edge of the box, while McKennie smashed his finish onto the underside of the crossbar after running pretty much the entire length of the pitch.

Moments later, Chiesa made it 3-1 with a sensational solo effort, bursting down the left, twisting and turning to make the defender dizzy and score with an angled drive.

There was the first Champions League goal of the season for Morata too, as Dybala flicked up the ball over the top for the Spaniard to come sliding in. The referee played a good advantage on an earlier Zenit handling offence.

Zenit did get one more consolation goal in stoppages, as a ball over the top was nodded down, Sardar Azmoun took a touch and flicked it past Szczesny from six yards.

ALLEGRI REVEALS WHERE JUVENTUS MUST IMPROVEJuventus vs Zenit 4 2 | Allegri press conference #UCL - YouTube

Massimiliano Allegri announces Juventus players will have a day off tomorrow and praises Paulo Dybala after the Old Lady’s 4-2 win against Zenit.

The Bianconeri have qualified for the Champions League round of 16 with two games to spare.

The players were supposed to be in training retreat until Saturday after suffering back-to-back defeats against Sassuolo and Hellas Verona.

However, they will be given a day off tomorrow, so technically, the training retreat is over.

“I am a coach, not a watchdog, we trained very well yesterday,” Allegri explained to SportMediaset.

“Tomorrow, the guys will have a day off, but on Thursday, we start again because we must recover the lost ground in Serie A, on Saturday we have a tough game against Fiorentina.”

“We played well technically, with great intensity, but we conceded a goal in the final five minutes and we must improve,” Allegri said.

“That’s when we conceded goals against Sassuolo and Udinese.

“We wanted to score the fifth goal, but we put the result in danger, running the risk to concede on the counter-attack. We had to finish the game with the ball at our feet.

“Dybala played a great game, but everybody played well,” the coach continued.

RAMSEY RETURNS AHEAD OF JUVENTUS VS. FIORENTINA, KEAN STILL OUT

Allenamento Juve: ancora assenti Kean e Ramsey

Welsh midfielder Aaron Ramsey has returned to training with the rest of the group, two days ahead of the Serie A match against Fiorentina in Turin.

The Bianconeri are preparing for the next league match, arriving from a 4-2 win over Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Ramsey was not in the squad for the match against the Russians, as the 30-year-old has suffered with muscle fatigue in recent weeks.

“Aaron Ramsey completed the whole session with the group this morning, Kean is still not available” Juventus wrote in the official report from Continassa.

Cuadrado grab all three points with injury time winner

Juventus returned to winning ways in Serie A as they beat Fiorentina 1-0 thanks to a late winner from Juan Cuadrado.

Massimiliano Allegri made four changes to Juve’s Xi from their 4-2 win over Zenit. Mattia Perin started in his third league fixture of the season while Leonardo Bonucci was benched for only the second time in 2021/22. Replacing him was Daniele Rugani. The other change for Juve was Adrien Rabiot replacing Federico Bernardeschi in left midfield.

Juventus were eager to bag three points and looked to threaten the Fiorentina defense with Paulo Dybala trying to continue his good run of form. However, la Viola's backline was rigid enough to prevent them from being much of a threat. The Bianconeri were given a tough fight by the visitors, especially during the first half. Juve’s backline did a pretty good job to keep Dusan Vlahovic quiet for most of the game.

Juventus started the second half strongly and had a good chance of going ahead through Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard did well to get the better of Milenkovic and take a shot on goal but his volley hit the side-netting.

Fiorentina attacked a bit near the hour-mark but could not come up with anything that could trouble the Bianconeri defenders. Things went bad for Italiano’s side as Milenkovic was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Juventus tried hard to make the most out of the one-man advantage and kept attacking persistently with Federico Chiesa coming agonizingly close to scoring. The former Fiorentina man did well to get past his man before taking a shot that hit the underside of the bar. A few minutes later, Alvaro Morata found the net but his goal was ruled out for offside.

The Fiorentina backline was kept busy as the match entered the final few minutes, with goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano being forced to make a brilliant save to deny Chiesa.

Juventus eventually found their winner in stoppage time thanks to Cuadrado, who netted his second of the season. The Colombian got past Biraghi before firing in a shot that beat Terracciano.

It was a much-needed win for the Bianconeri, who rose to 8th in the Serie A table.
