Moggi slams Juventus squad: “They only have one good midfielder”

Moggi promuove Spalletti e poi consiglia la Juventus: "Ha il piglio del grande allenatore, ma a gennaio prendano un centrocampista" - Calcio | Tribuna.com

Former Juventus sporting director Luciano Moggi is far from impressed with the current squad, highlighting the lack of quality in the middle of the park. ............

For his part, Moggi argued that Juventus only have one solid midfielder in their ranks, and his name is Khephren Thuram.

“Which department should Juventus bolster? You should ask the coach and the club. But in my opinion, it’s the midfield,” said the banned director in his interview.

“At the moment, there’s only one strong midfielder at the club: Thuram. And that’s not enough.” ............

Moggi also reserved some praise for Luciano Spalletti, considering him the right profile to restore Juve’s status among the elite. ............

“Spalletti has a good impact. He has the attitude of a great coach. He should be credible in the eyes of these young players and improve their performance.

“However, the team isn’t very well-built, and improving performance isn’t enough to win trophies.”

Moggi warns Inter Milan president: “This is when they started plotting against me”

DA MOGGI A MAROTTA – RMFOnline

Fomer Juventus sporting director Luciano Moggi notes some similarities between the circumstances that led to his ousting and the current controversy surrounding Inter president Beppe Marotta.

The 88-year-old was the architect of the Bianconeri side that was considered one of the most successful clubs in Europe in the 90s and the first half of the noughties.

Moggi’s work was undone by the Calciopoli scandal that rocked Italian football in 2006. Juventus were relegated to Serie B and slapped with a point deduction, while the Monticiano native was punished with a sporting ban for life. ...........

On Saturday, Juventus were the victims of a major refereeing blunder that culminated in their defeat to Inter, as Pierre Kalulu was unjustly sent off for a non-existent foul on Alessandro Bastoni. ............

“What happened yesterday was just a spark, but I repeat: the underlying problem lies elsewhere,” said the former director in his interview. ............

“No one wants to come to Italy anymore. Money can be one reason, but another is all these controversies, which do nothing but damage us. For weeks, people will be talking about this, not about football.” ............

“When they started calling me number one, that was the moment they began plotting to push me out.

“Now Beppe Marotta is in the same situation — he’s currently the best of them all. They say he’s the mastermind behind all this (the refereeing incidents in Inter’s favour), but that’s not true.

“He deserves respect for what he’s doing at Inter and for what he did at Juventus. If he had stayed in Turin, there wouldn’t be any debt by now, and Cristiano Ronaldo would still be at home.

“But here, the best are not tolerated: the culture that prevails in Italy is to tear you down and destroy you if you have too much success.” ............

“Comolli and Chiellini were right to protest, but I would have done it in the appropriate forums. That’s where you need to be angry. ............

“Not well-built” – Moggi slams Juventus squad, tells Vlahovic to leave

Luciano Moggi oggi: ha 85 anni

Former Juventus sporting director Luciano Moggi isn’t impressed by the club’s current roster, and offers advice for Dusan Vlahovic. ...........

Despite the poor results in February, Moggi has vindicated Luciano Spalletti from all responsibilities, insisting that the issues lie within the squad.

Juventus as a team is not well built. But they hired a coach who is getting results from this squad that previously seemed unimaginable,” said the 88-year-old in his interview.

“With the previous coaches, those kinds of results simply weren’t there.” ............

Drawing against AS Roma and almost completing a comeback against Galatasaray is, on one hand, courageous, but on the other, it shows a lack of long-term tactical planning.

“Right now, they’re one point behind Como 1907 and Roma, but keep an eye on the Lombard side because they’re very solid in midfield and don’t need to rely on their defence to defend. And then Nico Paz and Martin Baturina score quite regularly.

“Still, I see Roma as more of a rival than Como, which, like Juventus, is not a complete team.” ............

Moggi argues that Vlahovic is better off leaving the club at the end of the season, as he and the management have been at odds for years.

“In my opinion, even if he wanted to stay, he can’t. There’s been too much back-and-forth between him and the club, and that’s not healthy.

“So, despite considering him a good centre-forward, it would be better to look elsewhere.”
