Sampdoria determined to spoil Juventus'
title party, warns Mihajlovic

The former defender says his side are determined to beat
the league leaders on Saturday in a bid to bolster their hopes of Europe.

May 2, 2015

Sampdoria coach Sinisa Mihajlovic says his side are ready to spoil Juventus’ plans for a party on Saturday.

The Old Lady arrive in Genoa needing just one point to secure their fourth consecutive Serie A title.

But fifth-placed Samp have enjoyed a fine campaign of their own and Mihajlovic has warned Juve not to expect to celebrate just yet, despite their hosts being without a win in their last five Serie A outings.

"Juventus deserve the Scudetto but they can celebrate winning it in Turin and not on our own patch. While they only need a point, we're out to get all three," Mihajlovic said.

"I'm convinced that with determination, character, and also that slice of good fortune which has been lacking recently, we'll all be able to postpone their title party.

"It’s true that in this period we’ve struggled up front but against Juventus I'm ready to play the best striker in the club's history: Sampdoria's supporters.

"I want them to become our 12th man on the pitch."

Fourteen points clear at the summit of Serie A with just five games remaining, and with a Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday, Juve may well have their attentions focused elsewhere – but Mihajlovic insists he is expecting Massimiliano Allegri’s side to be as determined as ever.

"I don't expect Juve to be distracted," Mihajlovic said.

"In the last four years, they’ve both strengthened and improved their mentality. We must put in a good performance for the most important game of the season, our position, morale and the type of opponent we're facing."

With a Coppa Italia final against Lazio to come, Juve remain in line for an historic treble.

Line-ups: Sampdoria-Juventus

May 2, 2015

Juventus can win the Scudetto today, but visit a Sampdoria side that is unbeaten at home and are distracted by Real Madrid.

The Bianconeri need only a point to be mathematically crowned Champions of Italy for the fourth time running.

They would’ve already celebrated on Wednesday night when beating Fiorentina 3-2 had Lazio not simultaneously crushed Parma 4-0.

While Max Allegri’s men are confident of getting the result they need, it won’t be easy, as Sampdoria are with Juve the only side unbeaten at home this season.

The Blucerchiati need a boost to continue their Europa League qualification hopes, where they currently sit in fifth place.

Eder is out injured for the rest of the campaign, missing out along with Fabrizio Cacciatore and Alessandro De Vitis.

Afriyie Acquah is suspended in midfield following his red card against Verona.

Samuel Eto’o leads the attack with Luis Muriel and Roberto Soriano.

Juventus have Patrice Evra sitting out a one-match ban, while Martin Caceres, Paul Pogba and Kwadwo Asamoah are still unavailable.

Allegri naturally rests some players for Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid, including Andrea Pirlo, Alvaro Morata and Giorgio Chiellini.

Carlos Tevez starts after 20 Serie A goals this season, partnering Fernando Llorente.

Sampdoria: Viviano; De Silvestri, Silvestre, Romagnoli, Mesbah; Rizzo, Palombo, Obiang; Soriano; Eto'o, Muriel

Juventus: Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Barzagli, Bonucci, Padoin; Vidal, Marchisio, Sturaro; Pereyra; Tevez, Llorente

Marotta: 'No Scudetto celebrations'

May 2, 2015

Beppe Marotta said there “will be no celebrations” if Juventus win the Scudetto today and laughed off Paul Pogba rumours.

The Bianconeri need only a point against Sampdoria for the title.

“We always play to win. It will be tough today, we are facing a strong side, but hope to win and conquer the Scudetto,” the director told Sky Sport Italia.

“After tonight’s game there will be no celebrations, even if we win. We are immediately focused on Tuesday’s challenge with Real Madrid.”

There were reports in Spanish newspaper Sport today that Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola met with Barcelona.

“Paul is a great player and now the rumours are Barcelona, while last time it was PSG. Raiola has other players too, so he could’ve spoken to Ariedo Braida about someone else.

“In any case, Pogba is our player and anyone who wants him must knock at our door. We want to keep him.”

HT 0-1: Vidal silences Samp

May 2, 2015

Arturo Vidal has given Juventus the half-time lead away to Sampdoria, so the Scudetto champagne is ready to pop.

The Bianconeri needed just one point to mathematically secure the Scudetto, but Samp were unbeaten on home turf and eager to get back on track for Europa League spots. Max Allegri rested Andrea Pirlo, Giorgio Chiellini and Alvaro Morata ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid, but Patrice Evra and Afriyie Acquah were suspended. Eder and Paul Pogba were ruled out by injury.

Within 30 seconds Roberto Soriano turned over the bar following a poor backpass, while Pedro Obiang’s snapshot flashed just wide across the face of goal.

Samuel Eto’o only skimmed his head on a Djamel Mesbah cross from the left, then Stefano Sturaro’s shot was crucially charged down by Matias Silvestre.

Arturo Vidal did well to find space, but his finish was too central to trouble Emiliano Viviano.

Juventus broke the deadlock with a well-worked move, as Stephan Lichtsteiner whipped in a cross from the right for Vidal, whose header looped over Viviano and in off the inside of the far post. That was the Chilean’s first Serie A goal since January.

Vasco Regini replaced the injured Mesbah, while a Muriel free kick flashed across the face of goal with nobody able to tap in. Muriel also spread the play for Soriano, but the angled drive was past both the far post and Eto’o.

Sampdoria 0-1 Juventus (Half-Time)

Scorers: Vidal 32 (J)

Sampdoria: Viviano; De Silvestri, Silvestre, Romagnoli, Mesbah (Regini 35); Rizzo, Palombo, Obiang; Soriano; Eto'o, Muriel

Juventus: Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Barzagli, Bonucci, Padoin; Vidal, Marchisio, Sturaro; Pereyra; Tevez, Llorente

Sampdoria 0-1 Juventus:
Vidal strike clinches Serie A title

The midfielder's first half goal was enough
to seal victory and a fourth consecutive league title.

2uykd2u.jpg

May 2, 2015

An Arturo Vidal strike saw Juventus clinch the Serie A title for a fourth straight year as they beat Sampdoria 1-0 on Saturday evening.
The Chile midfielder was left unmarked to head home after 32 minutes at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and that was enough to continue Juve's domestic dominance.

Massimiliano Allegri's side now head into Tuesday's Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid with a historic treble in their sights, having already secured their place in the Coppa Italia final.

Sampdoria made a confident start to the match, with Pedro Obiang sending a blistering strike narrowly wide from the edge of the area.

Juve settled as Stefano Sturaro bustled into the box and saw an effort charged down by Matias Silvestre in the 19th minute, while Fernando Llorente blazed over on the volley before Luis Muriel failed to turn home Samuel Eto'o's cross on the break.

Vidal engineered space for a tamely hit drive in the 25th minute, but he made no mistake when the chance arrived to break the deadlock, heading Stephan Lichtsteiner's left-footed cross back across goal and in off the upright.

The hosts were forced into an early change as Vasco Regini replaced fellow left-back Djamel Mesbah, although they could have been level two minutes before the break.

The lively Muriel slid a pass through for Roberto Soriano to break into the Juventus box, but the midfielder's attempt squirmed wide of the far post - too far ahead of the on-rushing Eto'o.

Sampdoria goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano then produced a save of the highest order to keep Tevez's low strike out of the bottom corner after 58 minutes.

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci made a vital last-ditch challenge to thwart Gonzalo Bergessio at the other end, but it was a rare moment of encouragement for Sinisa Mihajlovic's team.

Viviano kept out skidding low shots from Tevez and Claudio Marchisio but it mattered little as Allegri's side saw the game out with ease to clinch yet another league title.

JUVE CAMPIONI D'ITALIA!

2d0xj6t.jpg

May 2, 2015

Juventus have won their fourth consecutive Scudetto after a 1-0 win away to Sampdoria.

The Bianconeri only needed a point at Marassi, but the Arturo Vidal header allowed them to secure the title in style, ending Samp’s unbeaten home record.

This is the team’s fourth Serie A title in a row, the previous three being secured by Antonio Conte.

Max Allegri transformed their tactics, but has still got the same result, as Juventus mathematically sealed top spot with four rounds to spare.

It is not a club record, as Juve won five in a row during the 1930s.

Officially this is their 31st Serie A title, but the club and fans consider them to be 33, contesting the two stripped by the Calciopoli scandal in 2004-05 and 2005-06.

There will be no excessive Scudetto celebrations, as the squad must prepare for Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

They are also in the Coppa Italia Final, facing Lazio next month, so are in the running for the Treble.

In 34 rounds, Juventus have earned 24 victories, seven draws and only three losses.

They scored 64 goals and conceded 19.

Arturo Vidal’s looping header ended Sampdoria’s unbeaten home record and gave Juventus a fourth consecutive title.

Vasco Regini replaced the injured Mesbah, while a Muriel free kick flashed across the face of goal with nobody able to tap in. Muriel also spread the play for Soriano, but the angled drive was past both the far post and Eto’o.

After the restart another Muriel cross was beyond Eto’o and Regini, while Alessio Romagnoli’s glancing header was wide and Eto’o tried a back-heel flick charged down from four yards.

Juventus kept possession for over a minute in the build-up to a Tevez snapshot from the edge of the box, but Viviano got down well to palm it round the base of the near post.

Gonzalo Bergessio blasted over, but another great chance for the ex-Catania striker was only denied by a decisive Leonardo Bonucci sliding tackle to block.

Carlos Tevez and Claudio Marchisio fired straight at the goalkeeper, while Gigi Buffon blocked an Alfred Duncan strike.

Buffon flapped a looping free kick out of the far top corner, while Bonucci nodded inches past the near post. Deep into stoppages, Muriel hit the side-netting with a left-foot scorcher.

Sampdoria: Viviano; De Silvestri, Silvestre, Romagnoli, Mesbah (Regini 35); Rizzo (Bergessio 54), Palombo, Obiang (Duncan 73); Soriano; Eto'o, Muriel

Sampdoria 0-1 Juventus:
Bianconeri Crowned Serie A Champions

33lecf4.jpg

May 2, 2015

Juventus are officially Serie A champions after a 1-0 win over Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday night.

Arturo Vidal ghosted in at the back post to head in Stephan Lichtsteiner’s cross after a half hour as Massimiliano Allegri’s men got the job done with four games remaining.

Juventus came into the match knowing a point would be enough to clinch a fourth straight title.

The Old Lady were sloppy in the opening minutes and thankful Roberto Soriano didn’t punish them. The 24-year-old’s curling shot going over the bar after Leonardo Bonucci was robbed on the edge of his own box following an ill-advised stroll with the ball.

Carlos Tevez tried to get Juve going with ‘El Apache’ showing his strength to win possession in midfield before finding Vidal, who failed to trouble Emiliano Viviano in the Blucerchiati goal.

However the Chilean would be more ruthless soon after as Juventus opened the scoring just past the half hour mark.

Lichtsteiner was given the freedom of the right flank, with enough time for the Swiss international to cut back onto his left and swing a cross to the far post. The defence posting missing and, even with Fernando Llorente in front of him stretching to attack the same ball, Vidal kept his composure to head in.

Sinisa Mihajlovic would have been furious two Juve players had so much freedom but would have exploded had the same pair doubled the Bianconeri’s lead minutes later. Llorente though headed over from a good position from Vidal’s centre.

Deliveries into the box looked Sampdoria’s best chance to ruffle Juventus’ feathers as Luis Muriel whipped in a wicked ball only to find no-one to profit from it. Soon after, Lorenzo De Silvestri headed over as Gianluigi Buffon continued to be a nothing more than a spectator.

Tevez’s double against Fiorentina saw him onto 20 goals for the season and the 31-year-old almost added another as he worked a shooting opportunity only for Viviano to brilliantly tip his effort for a corner.

With an hour gone substitute Gonzalo Bergessio took too long to shoot when one-on-one and Bonucci managed to get a last-minute blocked in. From the resulting corner, the Argentine finally called Buffon into action, but his tame header was easy pickings for the Bianconeri captain.

The 37-year-old goalkeeper had to be alert as Sampdoria pushed for an equaliser but the statistic of 18 shots with only two on target was a damning one against Mihajlovic’s charges.

Allegri began to ring the changes with the Champions League semi-final first leg with Real Madrid in mind and, with Sampdoria unable to muster a clinical moment to peg Juventus back, the Old Lady secured all three points and the Scudetto.

Juventus win fourth straight Serie A
title with away victory at Sampdoria

zn4nrm.jpg

May 2, 2015

Juventus have clinched their fourth straight Serie A title with a 1-0 win at Sampdoria on Saturday afternoon.

Arturo Vidal scored in the 31st minute of the game to send Juventus 17 points clear of second-placed Lazio with four games of the season left to play.

The victory secured their 31st Scudetto in Massimiliano Allegri's debut season in the Bianconeri dugout.

The Italian giants have scored the highest number of goals in the division -- 64 -- while also having the best defensive record with just 19 goals conceded.

Allegri's side have won 24 games -- five more than next-best Lazio -- and lost the the least amount of any side, with three defeats.

Two of those losses have come in April, with Juve falling 1-0 at Parma and 2-1 at local rivals Torino.

Many Juve fans were not able to witness the title triumph after being banned from both visiting Sampdoria and from the Bianconeri's final two home games of the season.

The trouble which overshadowed their defeat to Torino in the Turin derby had led to the Lega Serie A banning fans from attending both Saturday's game at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, as well as the subsequent two games at the Juventus Stadium against Cagliari and Napoli.

Juve have officially won 31 Serie A titles, but were stripped of two titles as part of their punishment for Italian football's infamous Calciopoli match-scandal of 2006.

The nine-year investigation concluded in March with no sentences ultimately decreed.

Juventus are now demanding compensation of €443 million from the Italian FA for damages they believe were caused by their relegation to Serie B, while they may also fight for the two league titles revoked to be reinstated.

Juve defender Giorgio Chiellini insists his side are as hungry as ever after winning the title, saying: "I think we demonstrated on the field that we are a side who do not settle for what we've got, but we always want more and to keep on improving.

"People were saying that we had reached the end of a cycle, but instead we have shown on the field that we are still hungry and we're even stronger than ever."

After winning the title so soon, Juve can now focus all of their efforts on their next objective for the season, which is to win the Champions League.

They host Real Madrid on Tuesday night in the first leg of their semifinal tie, and there is no time for any celebrations just yet.

"We wanted to wrap up the title today so we can turn the page and think only about this dream we've got on Tuesday, and that's an adventure we want to pursue with all our will, courage and ddetermination," Chiellini said in Genoa.

"We are a side who can do anything and we will play that game with a great desire to win. I'm sure the atmosphere's going to be great at the Juventus Stadium."

That may give them a 12th man, but Chiellini acknowledges there will be 11 "outstanding players" on the opposition.

"We've got to respect them," he added. "But like I said, we've got to try to do our best with courage and try to do something extraordinary because we feel we can do it."

Match-winner Vidal said in the mixed zone after the game: "This will help us for Tuesday. Now we've got three finals to come - three wins in which we can win the Champions League."

Player Ratings: Sampdoria 0-1 Juventus

29bfrsx.jpg

May 2, 2015

Juventus claimed the Serie A title with a 1-0 win over Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday evening.

After an even start, the Old Lady took a 30th minute lead as Stephan Lichtsteiner was awarded bundles of time and space to cut in and cross for the unmarked Arturo Vidal at the far-post.

Sampdoria

Emiliano Viviano – 6 – Redemption - The Italian’s first real test was the first goal – which he had no chance with. Denied Tevez with an excellent tip around the post just before the hour-mark to demonstrate his class.

Lorenzo De Silvestri – 5.5 – Under - With Vidal heading home unmarked in the first period, questions must be asked of De Silvestri – who seemed to go missing as Juventus took the lead. Physically imposing but decision making also let the right-back down.

Matias Silvestre – 6 – Commander - Committed to the cause with strong blocks and sturdy challenges, but occasionally liable to dodgy moments.

Alessio Romagnoli – 6.5 – Impressive - A good performance from the youngster, who held his own against superior attackers.

Djamel Mesbah – 6 – Curtailed - Worried opposition defence while freely running forward. However, his momentum was stunted due to injury – and the Algerian was replaced after 35 minutes.

Luca Rizzo – 6 – Decent - A rare start for Rizzo explained his eagerness to chase the game, including helping out in defence where he was isolated in marking both Vidal and Fernando Llorente for the Juventus opener. Replaced after 53 minutes.

Angelo Palombo – 5.5 – Punished - Backed off Lichtsteiner for first goal and was severely punished with the Swiss wing-back’s subsquent assist. A frustrating night for the captain.

Pedro Obiang – 5.5 – Limited - A positive display, forward-thinking in possession, and yet seemed to freeze at key moments when something magic needed to be pulled out of the bag.

Roberto Soriano – 5.5 – Lacking - Brought ball forward directly, running at the Bianconeri, as Samp set up high-tempo attacks. However, vulnerable to choosing the wrong ball and fizzled out.

Samuel Eto’o – 5.5 – Unhappy - Played as the orchestrator but was, in truth, quiet. Grew frustrated as team-mates were often not on same wavelength as the former Barcelona man, resulting in missed opportunities.

Luis Muriel – 6 – Bustling - Couldn’t connect with an early chance when played through on goal by Eto’o, but was involved in many Blucerchiati attacks after that and deserved more than a nul-points performance.

Substitutes

Vasco Regini – 5.5 – Lesser
- Extended run-out for the 24-year-old, replacing Mesbah in the first-half. Spooning an optimistic volley over the bar from 25-yards showed a desperation to get into the game, but little impact was made.

Gonzalo Bergessio – 6 – Moment - Brought on to increase the Samp’s attacking threat at 0-1, the Argentine was denied by a lunging Bonucci block when in a great position.

Alfred Duncan – 6 – Worker - Worked hard with little space in which to operate as the visitors packed the final-third with defenders.

Juventus

Gianluigi Buffon – 6 – Simple - Given very little to do, the experienced shot-stopper stayed focussed yet didn’t have many attempts on goal to contend with.

Stephan Lichtsteiner – 7 – Assured - Got up and down the pitch well, exemplified by a well-aimed cross to assist Vidal in the opener.

Andrea Barzagli – 6 – Okay - Looked a passenger in defence at times, but ultimately did enough to earn a clean sheet as the hosts lacked enough quality to wrestle a point out of the game.

Leonardo Bonucci – 6.5 – Sensible - Comfortable for the majority, and making key blocks at important moments. Yet, the 28-year-old seemed to restrict himself from bringing the ball out of the back-line.

Simone Padoin – 6 – Good - Offered width down the left-flank in attack and was largely at-ease. A more than suitable replacement for incumbent Patrice Evra.

Arturo Vidal – 7 – Glory - Peeled off delightfully at the far-post for his goal. Barely needed to break out of second-gear, and could choose to surge forward on occasion to remind the home defence of his presence and threat.

Claudio Marchisio – 6.5 – Tidy - A very tidy performance, sitting deep and sending the ball across the park with ease. Always there when his team-mates needed him.

Stefano Sturaro – 6 – Learning - Intelligence in spotting passes but inexperience showed in cynical sliding challenge that earned a yellow card.

Roberto Pereyra – 5.5 – Worrying - Roaming and attacking, yet the Udinese-loanee’s wasting of good chances resulted in a worryingly off-kilter display.

Carlos Tevez – 6 – Preserved - Operated deep and was relatively quiet from his usual game-changing self, yet he did look good and strong when putting himself about. Perhaps saving himself Tevez almost scored but for a great Viviano save, before being withdrawn to preserve himself for Real Madrid after 70 minutes.

Fernando Llorente – 6 – Effort - Pressed well and looked a threat, but failed to back that up with efforts on goal and was taken off late on.

Substitutes:

Alvaro Morata – 6 – Solitary
- A late chance to impress ahead of the Champions League tie with his former club, but Morata hardly had a touch as Juve sat deep to protect the lead.

Giorgio Chiellini – 6 – Sturdy - Brought on to bolster the Bianconeri defence as they withdrew deeper and deeper,

Kingsley Coman – N/A

JUVENTUS ARE CHAMPIONS OF ITALY!

24e0zr7.png

May 2, 2015

JUVENTUS ARE CHAMPIONS OF ITALY FOR A 33RD TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bianconeri beat Sampdoria 1-0 to secure a 33rd title, their 4th in a row.

Speaking after the game, the players were naturally overjoyed by the victory:

Gianluigi Buffon

“We were allowed 10 minutes to celebrate! The thought of Real Madrid has been hovering through our minds for a while, but the joy was inevitable.

“We have to keep our heads and hearts on the Champions League semi-final to not have any regrets.

“In a way the others gave us a helping hand, as last season it was a much closer race to the end, one that did not allow us to make any slip-ups.

“This time towards the end we dropped points, which was somewhat inevitable in a campaign with so many fixtures and responsibilities.

“This Scudetto has a special flavour for me and shows the spirit of sacrifice, the hunger and ambition of a group that in my view has no equal.

“When the Coach changed many – including us! – wondered what effect it would have, but we banded together.

“When you believe or even know that you are the strongest team, it’s important to beat potential apathy or complacency. A series of victories are great, but every now and then we need a slap to wake us up.”

Andrea Pirlo

“It was our objective since the start of the season and we gave it our all.

“We did everything to get here and we did it four rounds early, so we are happy.

“The secret to this title was the same attitude that characterised Juventus over these last four years, refusing to give in, trying to reach higher and higher targets.”

He was part of a viral campaign titled ‘Pirlo is not impressed,’ but is he impressed by this title?

“I am relaxed, but we’re already looking towards Tuesday’s game,” he smiled.

Andrea Barzagli

It was very difficult to predict four years of success, but after the new Juventus Stadium was inaugurated, something clicked that made us become great and allowed us to write a piece of history.

“I had many doubts about my fitness levels when I came back. In the first game against Palermo, I was fairly timorous.

“In this long period of inactivity, I did well to always keep focused and concentrated. I thought that I’d have a more drastic dip in form, to be honest, but the team helped me a lot.”

Now Barzagli is waiting to know if he’ll start against Real Madrid, as Max Allegri is expected to use a four-man defence.

“I think the Coach is happy to have so many defenders at his disposal and he makes the choices. We are concentrated on the game and obviously everyone wants to play, but at the end of the day the group is the most important thing.”

Giorgio Chiellini

“For various reasons we can’t celebrate the way we did on other occasions, because the importance of Tuesday’s game is undeniable.

“This Scudetto was earned a while back and I think the final step was beating Lazio. We were waiting for it to become mathematically impossible to catch us, but we still want to play a great last month.”

“As the years go by you are losing hair and pace, but gaining in other areas,” he laughed. “I lost something in physical terms, but learned to think more and I think I’m in my football prime.

“The whole team worked hard, sweated for the result and suffered. I hope to be an emblem of those characteristics.”

Juventus crowned Serie A champions

A fourth consecutive league title was clinched on Saturday
as Massimiliano Allegri's men defeated Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Juventus were crowned Serie A champions for the fourth season in a row following their 1-0 win over Sampdoria on Saturday.

Arturo Vidal scored the only goal of the game in the first half, heading home from Stephan Lichtsteiner's cross, to spark wild celebrations among the Bianconeri faithful.

Massimiliano Allegri's men are now 17 points clear at the top of the table with five games still to play and now cannot be caught by closest challengers Lazio and Roma.

After matchday four, Juve spent only one week off top spot as they remained the dominant force yet again in the Italian top flight.

Allegri replaced Antonio Conte as coach last summer and has also taken Juventus to the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in 12 years. The Turin-outfit play Real Madrid at home in the first leg on Tuesday.

An historic treble is still on the cards, with Juve also in the Coppa Italia final where they will play Lazio. The Old Lady has not won the Italian Cup since 1995.

Allegri: 'My first Juve days...'

27yo6c8.jpg

May 2, 2015

Max Allegri joked about his introduction to Juventus, tactical changes and Real Madrid after their Scudetto triumph.

Today’s 1-0 win away to Sampdoria mathematically sealed the fourth consecutive title, his first after three under Antonio Conte.

“The first days were good. I think I only had five or six players and we lost a friendly 3-2!” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

He was greeted by protests from fans, stepping in one day after Conte abruptly resigned when pre-season training had already begun.

“Afterwards the lads were at my disposal and just as I went to Milan, walking in to see a few Scudetto and World Cup winners...

“We slowly built on the extraordinary work done over three years and also tried to change something.

“I heard some say this Juventus could not play with four at the back. I think these are some of the best centre-backs in Italy, if not Europe, while they might even be more attentive with four. It was all rubbish.

“The players have great human qualities as well as technical ones, as to win four consecutive Scudetti is extraordinary. Our season isn’t finished yet, either. I have to thank everyone who helped me in this journey, starting from the club and staff.

“What I liked the most is that we mathematically secured the title with a good performance. I wanted that because this side still needs to improve and it’s a sign going forward.

“We were top of the table from the first day to the last. There can be hiccups along the way, but these are inevitable. A team doesn’t lose its characteristics just because it draws or loses a game.”

Allegri said 1-0 was his favourite result because it meant his team couldn’t get complacent.

“When we played against Empoli and Genoa, we weren’t in great shape, as in January we did some very tough training sessions.

“At times this season we didn’t keep concentration or thought some things were a little too easy and got distracted. This is why every now and then it helps to suffer and defend for a result.

“I think there’s absolutely no shame in defending. A good defensive performance is just as hard as a good attacking one.”

There will be few celebrations, because on Tuesday Juventus play the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

“We need this attitude on Tuesday, but also to be much better, as we’ll be facing an extraordinary Real Madrid side.

“The tie will be played over 180 minutes and not just in Turin. This team must be aware that it can reach the Final. It doesn’t matter whether our chances are good or bad, as long as we go out there believing.

“Juventus are in the Champions League semi-final, while Fiorentina and Napoli are in the Europa League semi-finals, so it’s a good sign for Italian football. Of course, you can always learn and adapt methodology we see overseas.”

Buffon: 'Juve beat apathy'

34e98b8.jpg

May 2, 2015

Gigi Buffon reveals the most important Juventus Scudetto tactic was “to beat potential apathy or complacency.”

The Bianconeri secured their fourth consecutive Serie A title, beating Sampdoria 1-0.

“The older you get, the more gratifying the titles are. After all, they could be the last!” joked the captain on Sky Sport Italia.

There will be no big parties or parades right now, as they must focus on Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final.

Bonucci: This Scudetto Feels
Different For Juventus

2mcvpzp.jpg

May 2, 2015

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci has stated that winning this season’s Scudetto has a different feeling than previous campaigns after the Bianconeri sealed their fourth successive Scudetto with a 1-0 win against Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Arturo Vidal’s lone strike was enough to claim yet another title for Juve, and despite it being the club’s fourth in a row, the Italian was adamant this one had a different significance.

“This Scudetto is beautiful. We were in the middle of chaos after his [Antonio Conte’s] departure and we immediately got going for new coach [Massimiliano] Allegri,” the Italian told Sky Sports Italia.

Juventus now turn their eyes to Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid and the defender has insisted that the Old Lady does not have a lot of time to celebrate.

“We have now reached one of our three objectives, but we must focus on Tuesday.

“This Scudetto is different because we adapted well for the new coach into a system that gave us security and now beautiful football.

“Great credit goes to the coach and staff, as well as the players, but I want to dedicate this Scudetto to the fans who are the soul of this title.”

Unstoppable Juventus Take The Serie A
Title For Fourth Successive Season

1zx63go.jpg

May 2, 2015

Juventus have made it four Scudetto triumphs in a row and with their latest success, beg the serious question: can anyone stop them?

Their latest triumph, against a pre-season backdrop of uncertainty, is arguably their most impressive of the lot so far too.

Granted last season, they shattered the 100 point barrier en route to their success but this time around, they had to contend with much more adversity.

During the summer, exasperation with his relationship with the club ultimately got the better of Antonio Conte, the man who had led them to their three previous title wins, and he made the difficult decision to walk away.

He was replaced with Massimiliano Allegri whose reception, not only among Juventini, but the wider Italian football public was lukewarm at best, to put it politely.

Yet it did not take the former AC Milan boss too long to win over the sceptics and less than a year on, his appointment can be hailed as a masterstroke by a Bianconeri board who, it seems, can do little wrong at present. Also becoming the first coach to win a Scudetto with both Milan and Juve.

From the off, Allegri made it clear that he was a man not afraid to make his presence felt at Vinovo – handing a surprise debut to Kingsley Coman in his first game in charge, away to Chievo at the Bentegodi which his side won 1-0.

Although he stuck with Conte’s tried and trusted 3-5-2 formation at first (which he recently re-introduced in their Champions League trip to Monaco), he soon transitioned his side into a 4-3-1-2 system and the move was seamless.

The Juventus juggernaut just kept rolling on – proving week after week why they are Italy’s flagship club, their greatest hope for continental credit and the peninsula’s undisputed number one.

Their home form was once again imperious throughout the campaign, scoring at least once every single time they played at home with Roma unable to stop them in their do-or-die clash in week six.

That game needs no great recounting. Any number of images immediately flash into the mind from it – Rocchi’s refereeing, Garcia’s violin or Bonucci’s thunderbolt but come full-time, it was just another example of Juve’s superiority.

A brief slip-up away to Genoa aside, they did not lose again in the league until April losses away to Parma and Torino – by which time they knew the title would be theirs again and when focus was starting to shift to European matters.

Roma’s slip-ups perhaps made things a little easier than they may have anticipated but the Old Lady had no control over events transpiring in the Italian capital.

As the old adage, goes you can only concentrate on yourselves. Juventus have, quite brilliantly too.

The continued improvements of Paul Pogba have been breathtaking as has Alvaro Morata’s flawless introduction to life in Italy while Roberto Pereyra has proved a brilliant buy.

Juventus have been a cut above the rest – the only question that remains is whether or not they can now equal the achievements of Carlo Carcano’s record-setting side of the 1930’s which won five consecutive championships.

Juventus 1 - Sampdoria 0: Initial
reaction and random observations

I heard the number 33 is popular this time of year. I wonder why...

9693jo.jpg

May 2, 2015

Max Allegri said there would be no celebrations. Beppe Marotta said there would be no celebrations. And they were true their word ... kinda. There were hugs, there was some bottles of champagne in the dressing room, and Max even went flying for a second after the final whistle sounded. So in a way, yes, Juventus did do a little bit of celebrating when the final whistle blew and the 1-0 win over Sampdoria was all done and dusted.

JuventusFC ✔@juventusfc
E con questo sono quattro di fila, @bonucci_leo19!!!! #4Ju33

It was, of course, the day that so many had expected for weeks now. Juventus didn't need to win on Saturday, but they got more than that. Arturo Vidal — who had a Man of the Match-kind of performance against Sampdoria — got the eventual game-winning goal, Stephan Lichtsteiner got the assist, and because of it, Juventus got their fourth straight Scudetto.

This was the culmination — at least domestically; there's still plenty to do in the other two competitions Juve are still taking part in — of a season that started out with everybody going to YouTube to see Antonio Conte and his bloodshot and bag-filled eyes stepping down as manager right after training camp started. Nobody knew what Allegri would do with the squad. Would they continue their dominance of Serie A? Would they take a step back and get a serious run for their money from an upstart Roma squad? Would it just be a complete mess that saw somebody else become manager when the season came to an end?

There were ebbs and flows like any season. But when it was all said and done, it turned out that it was just the same team with a new look — both on the sideline and in the tactical setup.

JuventusFC ✔@juventusfcen
.@andreabarzagli2: "It's right that we're not going over the top with our celebrations. We've got two other competitions to think about."

Fittingly, the final score just so happened to be Allegri's favorite scoreline. You just gotta make sure the team is alert from the start of the game to the very end of it, right, Max? Yep, they certainly showed that.

I guess this is the new, Juventus version of a poker. Not that I'm complaining, of course.

Uno. Due. Tre. Quattro. Siamo noi, siamo noi...

Random thoughts and observations

This was Sampdoria's first loss at home this season. You're welcome.

Juventus wins the title and Gigi Buffon gets a shutout. Seems like it all makes perfect sense to me.

Andrea Pirlo: Four years with Juventus, four Scudetti. That's a pretty good pace.

Arturo Vidal was fantastic against Sampdoria. You can say it's because of the sweet game-wining goal he scored in the first half, and you wouldn't be wrong. But there's a whole lot more that went into it than being the guy who delivered the three Scudetto-winning points on Saturday night. He had four tackles, six interceptions, three clearances, and was an all-around monster in the center of the park. Man oh man, if Vidal plays like that against Real Madrid...

Another midfielder who had a damn good game? Stefano Sturaro. That's not just because he was the only player in a Juventus jersey to have more tackles than Vidal. It was the entire game. Based on who he used to play for, you could tell this game meant a little more to Sturaro. Four of his five tackles in the game came within the first 40 minutes of the game. That's a Vidal-like pace. Sturaro's motor never stops running while he's out on the field. It really doesn't. That Vidal-Marchisio-Sturaro midfield sure does put a lot of pressure on opposing teams.

Carlos Tévez didn't score a goal Saturday. I know, I guess these things happen from time to time.

Remember that tackle and blocked shot Leonardo Bonucci had in the second half that kept the shutout intact? Yeah, that just seemed like a wonderfully fantastic single moment that sums up his season. (Other than the funny pictures of him falling over the advertising boards, of course.)

Lichtsteiner's cross came with his left foot. When's the last time we saw him deliver such a peach of a cross with his weaker foot? I dunno.

I love this team. So much.

Simone Padoin has now won four Scudetti with Juventus. This is not a drill. That's now more than Roma has won in their history. Sorry, but not sorry.

Now it's onto Real Madrid, who are currently cruising against Sevilla at halftime. I guess they're playing well, too, huh? Yeah, nobody expected this whole "Champions League semifinal" thing to be easy.

Buffon: Juventus Never Get
Tired Of Winning Scudetti

25syd5z.jpg

May 2, 2015

Gianluigi Buffon has hailed Juventus after they sealed their fourth Serie A title in succession with a 1-0 win against Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

The Bianconeri needed just one point against the Blucerchiati but thanks to Arturo Vidal’s first half header they took home all three points and the Scudetto.

“We never get tired of winning league titles, the older you get the more gratifying it is because you appreciate them more as they could be the last, so it is a great satisfaction,” said the Bianconeri captain to Sky Sport Italia.

The Old Lady do not have too long to celebrate however as on Tuesday they welcome Real Madrid to the Juventus stadium in the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final.

“We have effectively ten minutes of celebrating allowed because the thought of taking on Madrid has already got us pulsating,” the goalkeeper continued.

“It is an inevitable joy to secure the title and now we can devote body and soul to the next challenge.”

This Scudetto represents the club’s first title under new coach Massimiliano Allegri, who succeeded Antonio Conte last summer.

“It [the Scudetto] has a different flavour,” Buffon said. “Even for the whole group as it is the demonstration of a team that has a very strong mentality and a spirit of self-sacrifice that I think is unique.

“Certainly when we changed coach in July, many, including us could have had doubts, but in some ways it was also a motivation for us to show that we too had an important value, as well as technical and even moral. “

Allegri: Fourth Consecutive Scudetto
Is Incredible Achievement For Juventus

1ghu9v.jpg

May 2, 2015

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has thanked his players for embracing his move to the club last summer, citing it as one of the main reasons in helping him deliver the Bianconeri’s fourth straight Scudetto to the Turin club.

The Old Lady claimed the Scudetto with four games remaining after Arturo Vidal’s header gave them a 1-0 win away at Sampdoria on Saturday.

Allegri wasn’t a popular choice to replace Antonio Conte’s all-conquering Juventus but the former Milan coach praised the squad for rallying around him to deliver another championship.

“I joined a winning dressing room and we tried not to upset the great work that had been done in the previous three years,” the 47-year-old told Sky Sport Italia.

“I still wanted to change things and I have to compliment the attitude of the players in following the path we laid down.

“To win a fourth Scudetto is not a small achievement, it is an extraordinary one. We are having a good year and, personally, winning the championship for the second time [once with AC Milan] is of great pride for me and for all my staff.

“I’m glad I have won the league convincingly, this team though can still improve a lot, especially in Europe.”

Juventus will have that opportunity soon enough as they welcome Real Madrid to the Juventus Stadium on Tuesday night for the first-leg of the Champions League semi-final.

“We must be much better against Real Madrid,” said Allegri.

“We cannot just sit back against Los Blancos and just defend. We’ll need a piece of skill or magic but I do believe that we can reach the Champions League final.”

Vidal: Now Juventus Want
To Win Champions League

s46erd.jpg

May 2, 2015

Juventus’ Arturo Vidal has admitted that he has never seen such a muted celebration after winning the Scudetto as they have to face Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.

The Bianconeri secured their fourth successive Serie A title with victory over Sampdoria on Saturday and the Chilean revealed that the players were already focusing on their Champions League semi-final.

“I have never seen such a low-key Scudetto celebration, we are all focused on Tuesday’s game,” Vidal told Sky Sport Italia.

“[Have I been missing scoring goals?] Yes, but it gives me confidence at an important time, we have Tuesday’s game and we also have the Coppa Italia.

“I’m fine, the squad is maturing and I am happy to win the title.”

The dynamic midfielder then discussed their upcoming game against Madrid.

“Real are one of the best teams in the world, we want to go on and win the Champions League.

“Tomorrow we will start to look at Real Madrid, it will be important to score one or two goals in Madrid to make a safe return leg.

“This is the dream, we want to win and then party for a year.”

Chiellini: 'Losing hair and pace...'

140kbdk.jpg

May 2, 2015

Giorgio Chiellini joked he’s “losing hair and pace, but gaining in other areas” after a fourth consecutive Juventus title.

“For various reasons we can’t celebrate the way we did on other occasions, because the importance of Tuesday’s game is undeniable,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

The squad limited itself to a swig of champagne in the locker room after a 1-0 win over Sampdoria, as they face Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final next week.

“This Scudetto was earned a while back and I think the final step was beating Lazio. We were waiting for it to become mathematically impossible to catch us, but we still want to play a great last month.”

Juve switched from three at the back to four, sometimes asking Chiellini to play at left-back.

“As the years go by you are losing hair and pace, but gaining in other areas,” he laughed. “I lost something in physical terms, but learned to think more and I think I’m in my football prime.

“The whole team worked hard, sweated for the result and suffered. I hope to be an emblem of those characteristics.”

Chiellini had particular praise for Roberto Pereyra, who arrived from Udinese over the summer.

“I certainly didn’t expected him to be that good, but he became a first choice and few saw that coming.”

Marotta: Juventus Have Created
A Winning Model

4j9qh2.jpg

May 2, 2015

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta has praised the club, specifically president Andrea Agnelli, for establishing a winning model after the Bianconeri clinched their fourth consecutive Scudetto on Saturday.

Juve sealed their 31st Scudetto thanks to a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Saturday, and Marotta believes the club have put a winning structure in place that will yield even more success.

“I must say that with the coming of Andrea Agnelli there has been a great sense of belonging,” he told Sky Sport Italia after the match.

“He has been able to create a structure, giving great ideas and we have been able to create a winning model. Our success is the fruit of all that.

“This Scudetto has an important meaning, it came after a traumatic coaching change. The first day with [Massimiliano] Allegri we were welcomed by eggs at Vinovo.

“I think we can look to a great coach and a great squad that have grown in an exponential manner. The championship is always won by the best squad, aside from certain favourable episodes, over the course of 38 stages.”

Marotta took time to praise Allegri for the Scudetto triumph, pointing to the 47-year-old as a leader that the club will look to for many years.

“I think he deserves a lot of credit, he is the leader of the squad. Modern football depends on getting the most out of every individual and he has imposed his discipline, his tactical philosophy and it brought the squad the Scudetto, the final of the Coppa Italia and the semi-finals of the Champions League.”

Pirlo: 'Juventus attitude'

2cy2uly.jpg

May 2, 2015

Andrea Pirlo said this team “has the same attitude that characterised Juventus over these last four years.”

The midfielder was rested for today’s decisive 1-0 win away to Sampdoria. Was this fourth consecutive title in some way unexpected?

“It was our objective since the start of the season and we gave it our all,” Pirlo told JTV.

Juventus host Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg next week.

Allegri deserves Juventus Serie A title
after spitting, eggs and kicks - Marotta

Juventus director general Beppe Marotta says that coach Massimiliano Allegri deserves his Serie A title triumph after being greeted with "spitting, eggs and kicks" upon his arrival at the Italian club.

Arturo Vidal struck in the 32nd minute to win 1-0 at Sampdoria and earn Juve their 31st title in Allegri's debut season in the dugout with the Bianconeri.

Marotta feels that the silverware is just reward for the club and Allegri after he replaced Antonio Conte last summer, telling Sky Sport Italia: "This Scudetto feels very important because it came with a change of coach that was somewhat traumatic for us.

"The first day with Allegri and the president [Andrea Agnelli] in the car, we were greeted at the training ground by spitting, eggs and kicks.

"It was a challenge to turn that attitude around, but we won the Scudetto together and also reached the semifinals of the Champions League.

"Allegri is the leader of the team and we know modern football is about motivation and getting the best out of both a group and individuals.

"Max imposed his discipline and tactical philosophy, taking the team to the Scudetto, Champions League semifinal and Coppa Italia Final. I don't think we could have expected any more."

Juve only needed a point at Sampdoria to clinch the title, and Marotta was pleased with his side's professionalism.

"I am glad we won the title with a win over a great team that was unbeaten on home turf until now," he added. "Many thought we would be complacent here, but we showed how much we wanted to win in style."

May 2, 2015

Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli has expressed great pride in his fellow teammates after securing a fourth straight title with the Bianconeri.

Massimiliano Allegri’s squad took a 1-0 victory over Sampdoria in Saturday’s crucial match to solidify their domination of Italy.

“We’re so glad to have written this important page in history, again this year, with the fourth Scudetto in a row,” said Barzagli in an interview with Juventus TV.

“It’s a group title, a great group. We proved this year to be responsible and strong, now we hope to take away other satisfactions.”

The defender also spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the match to give his thoughts on the crucial matches left ahead in the semi-finals of the Champions League against Real Madrid.

“I think it is right to celebrate moderately,” he said. “We have a tough month, with two races still in the balance, on Tuesday we will face a match that is quite complicated.
