Juventus could be crowned Serie A champions for the fifth year in a row on Monday after emerging victorious from a gritty encounter with Fiorentina.

A 2-1 victory at the Stadio Artemio Franchi pushed Juve 12 points clear ahead of second-placed Napoli, who must triumph at Roma to retain any mathematical chance of catching the leaders, although this Scudetto is realistically beyond their grasp.

Gianluigi Buffon once again played the role of saviour for the Bianconeri with a double save from Nikola Kalinic's last-gasp penalty to secure all three points.

Juve were certainly made to battle hard for the vital win -- Kalinic had responded to Mario Mandzukic's opening rocket before substitute Alvaro Morata managed to stab home the winner.

Professionalism will forbid Juve from celebrating yet another title win on Sunday evening, but come mid-afternoon on Liberation Day there will almost certainly be exuberant festivities on the streets of Turin.

Determined to avoid suffering the ignominy of allowing Juve to celebrate a title party at their base, Fiorentina took their bitter rivals to task from the start.

Their first-half performance merited at least one goal and it was only through a dubious decision that they trailed at the break.

Juve were the first team to have a goal disallowed as Sami Khedira was offside when converting Mandzukic's flick-on in the 16th minute.

Moments later Fiorentina had the ball in the back of the net through Federico Bernardeschi - the young Italy striker looked to have been level with Juve's last man when receiving Josip Ilicic's pass and clipping home, but the linesman ruled otherwise.

They did not let their heads drop and laid siege to the visitors' goal, with Buffon called into action to deny Bernardeschi and Cristian Tello, while Milan Badelj was unfortunate to miss the target with a searing daisy-cutter.

Juve's stunning opening goal arrived powerfully against the run of play.

Khedira delivered the lofted cross into the box that found Pogba, who opted to find a teammate rather than control the ball and try his luck. That decision proved to be a good one as his headed lay-off found Mandzukic's left boot for a thunderous volley into the bottom corner.

Fiorentina were visibly frustrated but bared their teeth in the last minutes of the half as Bernardeschi sent Buffon sprawling with a low shot.

The Tuscans carried their grit into the second half and, after Pogba came close for Juve, both Kalinic and Mauro Zarate got Buffon working to tip fiercely-struck shots around his posts.

Despite the best defensive efforts of Massimiliano Allegri's men, Fiorentina continued to cause the champions-elect more trouble than most in the final third and they got their reward in the 82nd minute.

An egregious error by Leonardo Bonucci allowed Zarate to tee up Kalinic for a sweet drive that left Buffon stranded.

But when things go against Juve they regularly hit back without mercy and only 90 seconds later the away end was sent bouncing once again.

The scruffiest goal of the three was the most important to the outcome -- of the match and the season -- as Morata stabbed Patrice Evra's repelled shot over the line to bamboozle Ciprian Tatarusanu.

There was to be one last twist in a game which had kept fans guessing throughout.

Kalinic went to ground in the box rather easily under the attentions of Juan Cuadrado but, to the horror of the away following, referee Paolo Tagliavento awarded a spot-kick.

Buffon guessed correctly, leaping to his left to deny Kalinic before parrying Bernardeschi's follow-up to further embellish his hero status with Juventus fans.

Then, in stoppage time, Kalinic headed onto the bar from close range as the Viola's last chance went begging.

A 2-1 victory at the Stadio Artemio Franchi pushed Juve 12 points clear of second-placed Napoli and Gianluigi Buffon once again played the role of saviour as he saved Nikola Kalinic's last-gasp penalty to secure all three points.

Juve were made to battle hard for the vital win - Kalinic had responded to Mario Mandzukic's opening rocket before substitute Alvaro Morata managed to stab home the winner.

Sassuolo maintained their pursuit of a Europa League place by beating Torino 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico and are now just one point behind sixth-placed AC Milan.

Nicola Sansone's second-minute headed opener was cancelled out by Bruno Peres, who struck the killer blow at the end of a swift Torino counter-attack.

But the second half belonged to Sassuolo, with Federico Peluso nodding the ball home in the 75th minute before former Brentford man Marcello Trotta beat the offside trap to score deep into stoppage time.

Palermo scored a crucial away win over relegation rivals Frosinone, winning 2-0 thanks to a pair of second-half strikes.

Alberto Gilardino broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, with Aleksandar Trajkovski finally sealing the points with an injury-time strike.

Victory saw the Rosanero swap places with their hosts in the bottom three, Frosinone dropping to 19th, a point behind Palermo.

Ten-man Atalanta held firm to ensure Marco Borriello's goal earned all three points against Chievo in Bergamo.

Former West Ham striker Borriello scored the only goal of a 1-0 home victory by converting Alessandro Diamanti's shot against the bar in the 55th minute.

Atalanta lost Alejandro Gomez to a red card 20 minutes later but try as they might Chievo could not force home an equaliser.

Bologna pulled out of a nosedive towards the relegation zone by beating Genoa 2-0, with goals from Emanuele Giaccherini and Sergio Floccari seeing them reach the security of 40 points.

Sunderland loanee Giaccherini opened the scoring after 12 minutes as he steered Franco Brienza's clever through-ball beyond Eugenio Lamanna.

Bologna doubled their lead in the In the 63rd minute, capitalising on some penalty-box confusion when Cristian Ansaldi's clearance hit Floccari and went in.

Sampdoria also reached 40 points for the season as they came from behind to beat Lazio 2-1, with Emiliano Viviano saving a first-half penalty.

Filip Djordjevic's third-minute strike meant Samp faced an uphill battle to win and Fernando made life easier for them by equalising in the 20th minute.

Lazio won a penalty just before half-time but Antonio Candreva was denied by former Arsenal stopper Viviano and in the 79th minute, Modibo Diakite was there to divert the ball past Federico Marchetti when Matias Silvestre took aim.

Allegri: 'Mandzukic is gifted'

Apr 24, 2016

Juventus Coach Max Allegri claims critics are missing the real skill behind Mario Mandzukic. “He rarely gets a pass wrong.”

The Bianconeri beat Fiorentina 2-1 this evening at the Stadio Franchi and the Croatian opened the scoring, volleying in with his weaker left foot.

“People maybe don’t realise, quite a few in fact, but Mandzukic is a very technically-gifted player,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“He rarely gets a pass wrong and gave a fantastic assist to Paul Pogba, as he did to Sami Khedira the other day.

“Paulo Dybala catches the eye because he’s quick and agile, but watch Mandzukic timing his runs and choosing his passes.”

Mandzukic is also a decisive figure, as of his 10 Serie A goals scored this season, eight were openers.

Juventus 2 - Fiorentina 1: Initial
reaction and random observations

I have no idea where to start this. I feel pretty safe in saying the reason is simply because the lede to this thread was blown up about five times over the course of the second half. The twists and turns that happened over the course of the last 50 or so minutes of resembled that of a roller coaster ride that you hate on the outside yet secretly enjoyed on the inside. That's what kind of game it was.

I guess the easiest way to get this going is to mention one name.

That would be Gianluigi Buffon.

Why? Well, because it's simple, really. If it weren't for Buffon saving Fiorentina's 89th-minute penalty off the foot of Nikola Kalinic — and then the kick save on the follow up by Federico Bernardeschi — this recap would have a totally different tone to it. A wild second half was capped by Buffon's save on a penalty that should have never been called on Juan Cuadrado in the first place, keeping Juventus in front and preventing any last-minute kind of drama Serie A script writers would have eaten up with glee.

Ball don't lie.

Ball don't freakin' lie, man.

That game was whacky — and that's probably an understatement based on how the second half went. It was like the kinda ordinary and so-so first half had a couple too many glasses of vino at the halftime interval and came back on the field ready to party. And, well, it did. It had questionable refereeing decisions that impacted both teams. We saw great Buffon saves even before the penalty that should have never been a penalty.

Then you have Fiorentina tying the game and Juventus going ahead courtesy of Álvaro Morata seemingly seconds after Kalinic made it 1-1. How rude, right? They didn't even give Fiorentina a chance to finish all of their celebrations.

Just weird, whacky, whatever you want to call it. Then end result on the scoreboard, though, that's what matters the most. It means Juventus can either wrap up the Scudetto with a Napoli loss to Roma on Monday night or a point against Carpi at Juventus Stadium next weekend. Either way, it's about to be a party the next time Juventus plays in Turin, that's for sure.

I don't know, man. That second half seemed to zap my thought process. I hope you understand. All I know is that Gigi Buffon is good, Morata scores important goals and Juve are about to win the Scudetto again. Could be worse.

Random thoughts and observations

Seriously, if somebody tells me Buffon isn't the best goalkeeper in the world, I'm gonna brawl. When you've got teammates openly saying you're not human after the game, then yeah, you're the G.O.A.T.

Speaking of people who are playing out of their mind and showing they're not human, Paul Pogba, he's pretty good. The assist on Mario Mandzukic's goal just shows how diverse his game is. The ability to rise up and give an on-point header with a man draped all over him? Bow down to Pogba, he's just that good.

Remember when people were freaking out because Mandzukic wasn't scoring much at the beginning of the season? I do. But guess who now has hit the double-digit mark in Serie A in terms of goals scored? That would be Mandzukic, who now has four goals in his last five games against league opponents.

It's hard to believe with the way he's played as of late, but Daniele Rugani can have bad games. And he didn't have a great game against Fiorentina by any means. For as cool and calm he is, he just looked a little rattled. So much so he actually picked up a yellow card, his first ever in 53 Serie A appearances.

That was a Leonardo Bonucci mistake from his first year or two with Juve that lead to Fiorentina's goal. He's earned our trust, but man, that wasn't a good sight to see — especially knowing how he's seemingly eliminated those brain farts from his game the past couple of years.

Paulo Dybala had a quiet night. Morata came on for him. Morata ends up scoring the game-winning goal. Max Allegri aced that sub once again. Bravo to you, Mister.

I want Juventus to keep Mario Lemina. I don't care if it's on loan for another season or on a permanent basis. He's showing that he belongs.

Gigi Buffon is good. I probably should mention that again, huh?

Sousa: 'Fiorentina defeat burns'

2jalok9.jpg

http://www.football-italia.net/83342/sousa-fiorentina-defeat-burns?

Apr 24, 2016

Paulo Sousa confessed it “burns” for Fiorentina to lose against Juventus after a last-gasp Gigi Buffon penalty save.

The Viola had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside, then Mario Mandzukic put the visitors in front.

Just moments after Nikola Kalinic had grabbed the equaliser, Alvaro Morata restored the 2-1 lead and in stoppages Buffon parried the Kalinic spot-kick.

“It really burns, because it was a fine Fiorentina performance with a good attacking attitude,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Juventus were tactically perfect and have a winning culture, so for us to get a positive result in this fixture would’ve been a great step forward in terms of self-belief.

“It really hurts to lose tonight, that is how we are feeling. Technique is an important part of the game, but so are emotions and making the right choices.”

Sousa confessed this week that he had felt burned out at one stage, but had recharged his batteries.

“It has been a different season for me too. Competing against teams and colleagues who are so talented and cause you tactical problems is not easy.

“You always have to find something new and I used up a lot of mental energy along with the club to contribute to this growth.

“I certainly need to improve in this aspect of my work.”

Allegri Heaps Praise On Juventus
Following Impressive Fiorentina Win

wuiaev.jpg

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2016/04/allegri-heaps-praise-on-juventus-following-impressive-fiorentina-win/?

Apr 24, 2016

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has praised the performance of his team after they managed to overcome Fiorentina on Sunday in Serie A, winning by a narrow 2-1 scoreline.

The Bianconeri were under pressure for most of the match, but still managed to take their chances and secure the win, however, the Italian tactician now wants his side to remain focused ahead of their forthcoming Coppa Italia final against AC Milan.

“We will train tomorrow and then we will have a day off before we prepare for the Carpi match,” said Allegri to Sky Sport Italia. “We must not lower our intensity because we still have the Coppa Italia to win.

“Winning in Florence is not easy and the players produced a solid performance. In the first-half we were cautious, we defended well and took the lead.

“In the second-half we had to defend well and we struggled to create, but after Fiorentina scored we lost control of the game.”

Allegri was also asked how Juventus could improve next season with the Italian saying his team needs to learn how to play against teams that press, whilst also saying the club would be active in the transfer market this summer.

“Regardless of what system we play we need to improve when teams press us,” he added. “In those games we give the ball away too much and that is where we need to improve.

“I have not talked with the club about the summer but we want to improve, we could improve the technical level of this squad and if certain players are available we will try our best to sign them.

“We will also not be selling Pogba, not even for €100 million.”

Finally Allegri praised the performance of Gianluigi Buffon after the 38-year-old denied Fiorentina a late equaliser saving a penalty from Nikola Kalinic.

“He is very important for us but we have a great squad,” he concluded. “Mandzukic is a technical player even though many don’t recognise it. We rarely make any mistakes and we are a great team.”

Buffon: 'A special Scudetto'

jqq7td.jpg

http://www.football-italia.net/83344/buffon-special-scudetto?

Apr 24, 2016

Gigi Buffon feels this Juventus Scudetto will be “as beautiful as the one five years ago” and credits the Turin derby with the turning point.

The 2-1 victory away to Fiorentina this evening was secured when Buffon parried both Nikola Kalinic’s penalty and the Federico Bernardeschi follow-up in stoppages.

“It’s strange, two years ago I did something similar in Genoa, so they are two decisive penalty saves,” the goalkeeper told Mediaset Premium.

“I think this Scudetto is as beautiful as the one we got five years ago. This victory showed our strength in terms of technique and character.

“We never want to give in, we want to continue amazing people, whether we’re young or old, always with respect for the opposition.”

Juventus could win the Scudetto mathematically on Monday, if Napoli fail to beat Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. That game kicks off at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT).

“We have won a title before while watching on TV. I was with Ciro Ferrara on the couch at Alessandro Del Piero’s house.

“I have nine Scudetti in my career, plus a Serie B title which I am very fond of.”

Yet Juve had a disastrous start to the campaign before their run of 24 wins in 25 rounds, plus a 0-0 draw at Bologna.

“The moment we really turned a corner was scoring at the 95th minute against Torino. That gave us a confidence boost and we started to see even the most unthinkable targets within our reach.

“We needed the humility to get our hands dirty and to create unity within the team, new and old. Patrice Evra, for example, was fundamental on the field and off it to ensure this season took a different direction.

“This year we lacked ruthlessness in the Champions League, such as against Sevilla when we wasted so many chances. The anger will push us on to do well next season and serve as a valuable lesson.”

Player Ratings: Fiorentina 1-2 Juventus

2j5iatv.jpg

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2016/04/player-ratings-fiorentina-1-2-juventus/?

Apr 25, 2016

Juventus edged ever closer to their fifth straight Serie A title after they withstood a vigilant Fiorentina display at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, securing a clinical 2-1 victory.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side had one goal in the first half rightfully disallowed due to Sami Khedira’s offside position, but the Viola were unjustly ruled out of an opening Federico Bernardeschi strike, as the Italian broke free in what appeared to be an onside position.

Late drama in the match saw Nikola Kalinic’s equaliser with 10 minutes remaining, cancelled out by Alvaro Morata just minutes later, and the Croatian would be denied twice more from both Gianluigi Buffon at the penalty spot and the crossbar in the dying moments of the match.

Fiorentina

Ciprian Tatarusanu – 5.5 – Blameless - Never called into making a necessary save, but can’t be criticised for allowing two goals by Juventus as he was punished helplessly by a clinical finish from Mario Mandzukic and a fortunate rebound from Alvaro Morata.

Nenad Tomovic – 6.5 – Resolute - Faced plenty of pressure on the flank as Patrice Evra was given plenty of opportunities to whip in crosses, but the Serbian consistently blocked the danger that came his way and completed five tackles in the process.

Gonzalo Rodriguez – 6.5 – Determined - Didn’t hesitate to bully his opponents out of possession and pick up a yellow card throughout his four tackles in the match, and his willingness to surge forward was an indicator of a determined performance.

Davide Astori – 7 – Accurate - A confident display from the Italian, which gave the Viola consistent hopes to contend for a result against the visitors, as the centre-back notched four tackles and finished with 91% passing accuracy after accumulating over 100 touches on the ball.

Marcos Alonso – 6 – Unrewarded - An exceptional performance by the Spaniard in terms of effort and contribution, but the full-back ultimately fell short when he could’ve buried two excellent scoring chances.

Milan Badelj – 6 – Quiet - Forced into a subdued performance in midfield as pressure mounted from the Bianconeri, and would eventually leave the match after two failed shot attempts. The Croatian was especially unlucky to see his goal line clearance promptly fired into the back of the net by an instinctive Alvaro Morata.

Borja Valero – 6.5 – Tidy - Kept matters organised and accurate in his decision-making with possession, but was unable to change the outcome of the match after showing plenty of urgency late into the affair.

Federico Bernardeschi – 6.5 – Lively - The Italian may not have been the most consistent player on the pitch, but he fully deserved credit for netting an opening strike past Gianluigi Buffon that was controversially ruled offside.

Josip Ilicic – 6.5 – Lacking - Contributed effectively in the counter attacking moves by the Viola, but should’ve made the most of his final chance to shoot from the top of the box as his effort sailed over the target before subbing out for Mauro Zarate.

Christian Tello – 6 – Promising - Made Patrice Evra look helpless in defence on more than one occasion and also lashed out a powerful strike to force a save from Buffon, but some inconsistency led to his substitution in the second half.

Nikola Kalinic – 7 – Thwarted - The Croatian finally hit the back for the first time since February as he equalized the match in emphatic fashion in the second half. Yet the player will rue numerous opportunities to equalize from Morata’s goal that followed, as he failed from the penalty spot and was denied by the woodwork twice in his eventful match.

Substitutions

Mauro Zarate – 6.5 – Energetic
- Filled in adequately for Ilicic to inject more energy into Fiorentina’s attack force, and eventually assisted Kalinic to change the outlook of the match.

Matias Fernandez – 6 – Decent - Came on with 30 minutes remaining in the match to blend into the midfield seamlessly, but couldn’t tap into his usual effectiveness from set-pieces.

Facundo Roncaglia – N/A

Juventus

Gianluigi Buffon – 8 – Exceptional - While he was fortunate to survive early punishment from Bernardeschi’s strike that was ruled offside, the 38-year-old did everything in his power to stun the home crowd with his world-class saves that followed. Juventus could’ve settled for a draw if not for the keeper’s outstanding double save against Kalinic’s penalty shot and ensuing rebound by Bernardeschi in the final minutes of the match.

Andrea Barzagli – 6.5 – Reliable - Perfect in his passing and offered the necessary clearances at the back when caution was needed in defence.

Leonardo Bonucci – 6 – Stressed - Early contributions were excellent as the defender seemed to stop every cross in his path, but his mistake to let go of possession in the second half resulted in an equalizing goal from Kalinic.

Daniele Rugani – 6.5 – Tarnished - A perfect disciplinary record in Serie A came to an end for the defender, who showed a tendency to tug on his opponents shirts and should’ve been penalized twice for doing so in an otherwise solid performance.

Stephan Lichtsteiner – 6 – Inconsistent - Unable to make his marauding runs up the right-flank or deliver decent crosses as Marcos Alonso kept a steady mark on the Swiss full-back.

Sami Khedira – 6.5 – Effective - Sent in an excellent lobbed ball for Pogba to set up Mandzukic for the opening goal, and helped the Bianconeri maintain their confident control for long stretches of the match.

Mario Lemina – 7.5 – Dependable - Quietly impressive in his positioning, tackling, and dribbling for the entire match, and a testament to the quality within the depth of Allegri’s squad.

Paul Pogba – 8.5 – Unstoppable - Created an unselfish assist to break the deadlock and was hardly ever shaken off the ball in midfield as he expressed great vision in many sections of the pitch. The Frenchman’s 11th assist brings his tally to the highest amount in Serie A.

Patrice Evra – 6.5 – Mixed - Showed good positioning in attack and gave himself plenty of opportunities to send crosses from deep into the left-flank, but he lacked enough accuracy to connect with his attacking teammates and also showed flaws defensively against Tello.

Mario Mandzukic – 7.5 – Ruthless - Netted his fourth goal in five games in clinical fashion, and was beaming with confidence in possession to help create added opportunities for his fellow teammates up front.

Paulo Dybala – 7 – Clever - Won a staggering amount of his dribbles against the Viola, and managed to wreak havoc in the opposing third by weaving in and out of passes to mount continuous pressure.

Substitutions

Alvaro Morata – 6.5 – Poacher
- Entered the match with real fire in his eyes as he outran his markers to build promising counter attacks, and his killer instincts inside the box helped Juventus claim a sensational victory just minutes after conceding an equalizer.

Kwadwo Asamoah – N/A

Juan Cuadrado – 5.5 – Calamitous - Could’ve ruined the match against his former club as he unsuspectingly conceded a weak penalty decision as he chased Kalinic inside the penalty area late in the match. Luckily Buffon bailed out the Colombian with a vital pair of late saves.

Gianluigi Buffon and Mario Mandzukic
help Juventus pass Fiorentina test

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/italian-serie-a/12/blog/post/2858141/gianluigi-buffon-and-mario-mandzukic-help-juventus-pass-fiorentina-test

A performance of champions, Juventus may have not been the best team on the night but their experience and reading of the game earned them their 2-1 victory over an excellent but rather unlucky Fiorentina side.

Paulo Sousa's men controlled possession and demonstrated their fine brand of football, rotating the ball beautifully and looking for their opportunities to strike. Taking 21 shots on goal, it was clear the Viola ruled the game and yet couldn't score the goals they needed.

Their opponent, by contrast, demonstrated physical tenacity and great organisation, knowing when to defend and when to surge forward. Boasting individuals with superior quality, Juventus worked as a team, remaining vigilant to attacks but also striking quickly and effectively when the opportunity presented itself. In fact, Juve's first goal was a fine team effort in which Paulo Dybala's intelligence, coupled with Paul Pogba's physicality and Mario Mandzukic's efficiency, allowed them to take the lead.

Many would point out that Fiorentina were unlucky, especially in the first half as they played the better football. Federico Bernardeschi made a well-timed run and scored a goal only for it to be wrongly ruled offside, while Daniele Rugani was lucky not to have conceded a penalty for grabbing hold of Marcos Alonso's shirt in the box.

Pressing the back-line relentlessly, the Viola eventually earned their equaliser in the second half when they provoked a mistake from Leonardo Bonucci. The Bianconeri may boast a fine defensive record but they are always capable of a mistake or two. It is these very mistakes they must control should they dream of further glory in the future.

With the referee under pressure, he seemingly gifted the home side a penalty at the end in which Gianluigi Buffon swiftly saved to remind viewers of the magnificent season he's having. With every member of the team contributing to the result, Juventus's win boasts both individual quality and collective strength.

Player ratings

Gianluigi Buffon, 8
-- He saved Nikola Kalinic's penalty and immediately rescued the team from another shot. Magnificent this season, he was always attentive and almost unbeatable on the night. Man of the match.

Andrea Barzagli, 6 -- Struggled under pressure on various occasions but his reading of the game was always excellent. A steady performance.

Leonardo Bonucci, 5 -- Started the game well, the player at times can be reckless when overwhelmed. Pressed effectively, he was robbed of possession and Fiorentina made it 1-1.

Daniele Rugani, 6 -- Earned his first yellow card in Serie A for grabbing hold of a shirt, the player was lucky not to have conceded a penalty in the first half for doing exactly the same thing but in the box. He did excel at tackling.

Stephan Lichtsteiner, 6 -- Started the game well, pushing forward on the right and allowing Juve to switch play but eventually focused only on defending, helping secure the back-line.

Sami Khedira, 7 -- Always exploits the right spaces in attack, his runs are important but if only he was that bit quicker. Sometimes he reacts too slowly. Contributed excellently in the defensive phase of the game too.

Mario Lemina, 7 -- Offers a certain level of dynamism in his role. Capable of winning possession back cleanly before passing forward quickly. Kept the game ticking. Efficient.

Paul Pogba, 8 -- Worked brilliantly with Dybala, Pogba does well to make the right runs forward and exploit the space. Should have scored a goal but more than made up for it when he nodded down the assist for Mario Mandzukic to score. Tenacious and intelligent, his performances continue to improve.

Patrice Evra, 6 -- Looked a little uncomfortable on occasion when faced with speed but pushed forward well, putting in some fine passes.

Paulo Dybala, 7 -- By dropping off into midfield, he allowed those behind him to take up excellent positions in attack. Brilliant at linking the midfield to the forward line, the player's tactical intelligence made all the difference, contributing to Mandzukic's goal.

Mario Mandzukic, 8 -- Excellent on the night, the Croatian integrated himself well within the pattern of play, creating goal scoring opportunities and scoring the opening goal of the night. A fighter, he worked hard to bring in his teammates into the game.

Substitutes

Alvaro Morata, 6
-- The player always makes the difference, he scored the winning goal less than two minutes after Fiorentina had equalised.

Kwadwo Asamoah, N/A -- Barely offered any time to make an impact.

Juan Cuadrado, N/A -- Conceded the penalty which replays suggest was a dive but the wing back was lucky not to receive another yellow card and be sent off only minutes after coming on.

Fiorentina vs. Juventus: Winners
and Losers from Serie A Match

With Napoli not playing until Monday, Juventus knew that Sunday evening’s meeting with Fiorentina presented an opportunity to add to the pressure on their closest rivals, with a win bringing them close to sealing the title once again.

They would eventually do just that thanks to a tight 2-1 scoreline in a match which was—as Massimiliano Allegri predicted—far from simple. Over 90 difficult minutes, the Viola vindicated the Juve boss' assessment of them when he addressed reporters at his traditional pre-match press conference:

We’ve not won anything just yet and we go to Florence looking to bring all three points back to Turin. Of course we know that it won’t be easy. The Viola have all but qualified for the Europa League and they’ll be especially pumped up for tomorrow.

We can expect a very tough and intense tussle against Fiorentina, who are the side to have scored the most amount of goals in the opening half-hour of games this season in Serie A.

Nevertheless, the Bianconeri emerged victorious at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, and what follows is a closer look at some of the performances during the game, highlighting the best and worst displays from this latest outing of Turin’s Old Lady.

Winner: Paul Pogba (Juventus)

That Juventus eventually emerged as narrow winners owed much to the display of Paul Pogba, the midfielder once again delivering a stellar performance that prompted his side to victory in difficult circumstances.

An unselfish header from the 23-year-old laid on the opening goal for Mario Mandzukic, Pogba registering his league-high and career-best 11th assist of the campaign. It continued his excellent recent form which has been key to helping the Bianconeri close in on yet another league title.

Loser: Daniele Rugani (Juventus)

If Fiorentina were somewhat unfortunate not to emerge with at least a share of the points, no player was more relieved than Daniele Rugani. The Juventus defender endured a torrid evening at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, one which should perhaps have seen him concede a penalty for pulling Marcos Alonso’s shirt as a cross was swung into the box.

He made amends by forcing Nikola Kalinic wide late in the second half, but also picked up the first Serie A booking of his career—spanning 53 appearances.

Winner: Nikola Kalinic (Fiorentina)

Although he was disappointing in the first half, Nikola Kalinic came to life after the break, netting after Mauro Zarate caught Leonardo Bonucci making a rare mistake. The striker will be disappointed to have seen a late penalty saved by Gigi Buffon, but without him finding the back of the net this game would have been much more comfortable for the visitors.

Loser: Paolo Tagliavento (Referee)

While referee Paolo Tagliavento cannot be held accountable for the narrow offside decision that saw Federico Bernardeschi’s first-half goal disallowed, the official would go on to make some extremely questionable decisions.

Missing what looked like a certain penalty for Fiorentina when Daniele Rugani pulled Marcos Alonso’s shirt as a corner was swung into the box, Tagliavento would then hand Fiorentina a dubious spot-kick after ruling that Juan Cuadrado had fouled Nikola Kalinic, rounding out a poor evening from the Terni, Italy, native.

Winner: Alvaro Morata (Juventus)

Arriving from the bench in the second half, Alvaro Morata would eventually be the match-winner for Juventus, prodding home moments after the Viola equaliser. He was booked for his celebration, but the Spain international also extended a fine run of recent displays, registering three assists in his two previous appearances for the Bianconeri.

Allegri: Next target for Juventus
is the Champions League

Post-match comments from manager Allegri after Juventus' win over Fiorentina.

Juventus could clinch their fifth consecutive title tomorrow night if Napoli fail to win against Roma. In a thrilling encounter that went back and forth, the Bianconeri beat hosts Fiorentina 2-1 with goals from Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata.

Manager Massimiliano Allegri was asked about the amazing run Juventus have put together -

"It was almost impossible to win 24 out of 25 games.

"Since the start of my coaching career I have always been confident of what I was doing and fully aware of what I needed to improve. At the end of the day, results are everything in this business.

"I often get called a ‘club man' - if a Coach has everyone on side, that helps get results, doesn't it? If you don't share the ideas of the club, you just politely point that out and walk away. This squad has been put together in an exceptional manner by the club.

"I'll sign the contract next week, assuming they let me sign it!"

He commented on a tight game that could have gone either way right until the end, with Juve goalie Gianluigi Buffon saving a Nikola Kalinic penalty to preserve the win -

"This was a very important stepping stone towards the title. I have to give a lot of credit to Fiorentina, as they caused us many problems. My lads also deserve praise for their performance.

"We ran few risks other than counter-attacks until the 1-1, then we went into a little chaos, as unfortunately in Florence the games are never over until the final whistle. We did well to hang on.

"Buffon is the most representative and important player at Juventus. Obviously his words hold a different weight to something the others might say."

When asked if the BIanconeri would watch the Napoli-Roma game together tomorrow night -

"We will train as usual, then prepare the match against Carpi. Don't forget we also have the Coppa Italia Final on May 21 and we mustn't reach that appointment against Milan with the wrong state of mind.

"If we watch the game or not won't change anything."

Finally, Allegri also commented on where he felt Juventus needed to improve next season, adding that the Old Lady would be active in the summer mercato as well -

"Initially we had gone in a little soft and were a bit too relaxed, but from November onwards the journey has been extraordinary.

"Next year we must target winning the Champions League. It's reductive to focus just on Serie A. It's one of those competitions where one incident goes wrong and you don't have time to recover.

"I believe that regardless of tactical systems, we have to improve our control of the ball when under pressure and in the lead. We mustn't lose the ball in a banal manner, so that is what we need to work on in certain moments of the match.

"Otherwise we create excessive pressure on ourselves that can be avoided.

"We can improve the players we've got and help them reach maturity, as for example we were naïve against Bayern Munich when in control of the situation.

"The club will focus on improving the squad, as it did last summer, bringing in young players with great technique.

"Paul Pogba has improved a great deal in terms of character. I said the other day joking that as the €100m wouldn't go to me, I'd rather keep Pogba!"

Fiorentina vs. Juventus 1-2, The Old Lady
has one hand on the Scudetto

What happens when two Italian teams forget about sitting back and defending, and instead focus on playing football that marries the existing tactics with technical freedom?

You get a poster game for Serie A football.

And that was exactly what happened on Sunday night. Fiorentina-Juventus had everything — two goals disallowed for offside, three actual goals, a penalty kick, a shot off the crossbar in the dying minutes and more.

Juventus started with a 3-5-2 with Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Daniele Rugani protecting Gigi Buffon. The midfield had the Swiss Express and Pateice Evra on the flanks, with Sami Khedira, Mario Lemina and Paul Pogba in the middle. Leading the forward line, Max Allegri put Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala. The Old Lady took on a Viola side playing a 4-2-3-1. This formation really put a lot of pressure on Juve's defense and was a little reminiscent of the first leg against Bayern Munich, with Viola players pressuring our backline quite high, but also double, triple and in some instances quadruple teaming Pogba to kill his runs with the ball.

In the first half, Juventus really suffered. They had a hard time playing from the back, and also struggled getting the midfield involved. Nevertheless, Fiorentina didn't really trouble Buffon, and it was the Bianconeri who put the ball in the back of the net with a Khedira effort that was disallowed for offside (rightly so). A few minutes later, Fiorentina started to move back on to their half and Juventus moved their defensive line up the pitch. Suddenly, a quick counter attack left Federico Bernardeschi in front of Buffon and the Viola player put it in the back of the net. However, his goal was also disallowed for offside, truth be told, that was a bad call.

On the 38th minute, Juventus will finally change the scoreline. Dybala found Khedira at the edge of the box and the German placed a pin point cross to Pogba. The Frenchman used his height to put a clinical pass to Mandzukic, who didn't hesitate to put it in the back of the net. 1-0 Juventus, probably underserved, but who cares. The Viola players seemed a little frustrated and I thought they would throw in the towel, but they held on until the halftime whistle.

In the second half, things seemed to be going well for the Old Lady. Fiorentina had most of the possession, but they didn't seem to be doing anything meaningful with it. Honestly, I thought Juve were cruising to their billionth 1-0 win of the season. But Leonardo Bonucci had other ideas. The defender received the ball at the edge of the area, and instead of doing just about anything else, he tried to turn and dribble past a Fiorentina player. He ended up losing the ball and leaving Nikola Kalinic in front of Buffon to score the tying goal at the 81-minute mark.

The Old Lady, however, is allergic to losing, and decided to press on.

Two minutes after Kalinic's goal, Álvaro Morata found himself with the ball at his feet in front of the Fiorentina goal and didn't hesitate to make it 2-1 for the visitors. The scoreline stayed the same for the rest of the match, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention Buffon's contribution to the match. At the 90th minute, Kalinic went down from a Juan Cuadrado foul in the box — it wasn't a foul — and the ref pointed to the spot and blew the whistle. It but all pointed to a draw, but Buffon had not one but TWO massive saves before the ball was cleared. Fiorentina continued to try for the next four minutes, they even hit the crossbar, but it wasn't to be.

In the end, Juventus got three more massive points from Firenze and rightly celebrated with the fans in Tuscany.

Pagelle

Gianluigi Buffon 10
Another one of those matches in which Buffon gets Juventus two points without scoring a goal. I don't know what else to say, because he was spotless all match.

Barzagli 6.0 I don't really know what to say here but I thought he really struggled today. He placed a back pass to Buffon that caused a lot of trouble to clear. Didn't have an easy time with Bernardeschi. He gets a 6 because the expectations on him are immense, and today he was below his usual level.

Bonucci 5.0 He had NINE CLEARANCES, sure, but he also allowed the goal in what should have been a routine play. He has been amazing all season, but he reminded me of when he just joined the club in 2010.

Rugani 7.0 If you were watching at about the 72 minutes, you would have seen history in the making: Daniele Rugani got his first yellow card in Serie A (he is such a rebel). He completed five tackles (game high) and two interceptions.

Lichtsteiner 6.5 He got into some good positions, but his crosses left lots to be desired. Defensively he was sound throughout the night.

Khedira 6.5 Good game for the German, although he was dispossessed a couple of times. His accurate cross got our first goal started.

Lemina 7.5 It may seem a little high (I did consider a 7), but he is young and the bar is not as high as for some of his teammates. He finished the game with four dribbles, three tackles, and four interceptions (highest number of Interceptions among his teammates).

Paul Pogba 8.0 He continues to have impressive matches. He attempted 14 dribbles all match and was successful eight times. Although this frustrates Allegri, I think he is trying these moves in less dangerous positions and when he is well covered.

Evra 6.0 His crosses were dreadful, sure he earned us many corners, but he could have done more with the service he was getting from Pogba.

Dybala 7.0 As usual, a delight to watch, but I think he tracked back a little too much to help out recover the ball. This might have been a tactical instruction by Allegri, but I think it really harmed his offensive capabilities.

Mandzukic 7.5 Run the whole match and scored the opening goal in the one chance Juventus got.

Morata 7.5 Before I get criticized for "forgetting" Morata, I thought I will oblige (Kaushik, I am looking at you!!). The Spaniard came on to the pitch and for the third time in a row he changed the game. Lately he has been getting too little playing time for how much he has contributed.

Allegri 6.5 When the team gets overrun like what happened today you need to blame the coach. Maybe the tactical setup wasn't right, maybe motivation was lacking, who knows! and most importantly, who cares! Individual talent got Allegri the win in Florence.

Things I think I think

- Buy Lemina right now. We know with absolute certainty that Juventus will need a midfielder next season because of Marchisio's injury. Lemina can walk into the team and have a starting spot in Serie A. He is tactically not as intelligent as Marchisio, but then again, few players are. However, he is very good technically and seems to be willing to train and improve. No need to wait.

- Paul Pogba is loving his football, and the Old Lady is loving it back.

- Morata deserves to start more matches. Allegri could try a 4-3-2-1 with Morata and Dybala supporting Mandzukic.

- Hats off to Fiorentina for playing football instead of sitting back and defending. What does Serie A need? more teams that are willing to challenge the top teams instead of trying to sneak a draw from time to time.

- Napoli will put themselves out of their misery and will lose tomorrow. Gonzalo Higuain will score once — maybe even twice — but Totti & Co. will prevail. You heard it here first.

Mario Mandzukic Underlines His Importance
to Juventus in Win over Fiorentina

While still needing a single point to secure the Serie A title—pending Napoli’s clash with AS Roma on Monday—Juventus took a major step towards retaining the championship courtesy of a 2-1 win over Fiorentina on Sunday evening.

The match was reviewed in this previous post, and again the Bianconeri victory owed much to the performance of Paul Pogba. The midfielder delivered yet another impressive display, laying on the opening goal of the match to take his recent tally to four goals and six assists in his last six outings.

His unselfish header to create an opening for Mario Mandzukic broke the deadlock at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and provided an opportunity for the Croatia international to underline his value to Juventus.

Netting his 10th league goal of the season, Mandzukic has now bagged 13 times in all competitions, adding five assists in his debut campaign with the Turin giants.

His impact cannot be underestimated, with coach Massimiliano Allegri quick to sing his praises to Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle (h/t Football Italia):

People maybe don’t realise, quite a few in fact, but Mandzukic is a very technically-gifted player.

He rarely gets a pass wrong and gave a fantastic assist to Paul Pogba, as he did to Sami Khedira the other day.

Paulo Dybala catches the eye because he’s quick and agile, but watch Mandzukic timing his runs and choosing his passes.

High praise indeed, but deserved after another fine showing from the former Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich star.

Mandzukic netted with his only shot of the match against Fiorentina and completed 14 of his 20 pass attempts.

Adam Digby ‎@Adz77
Mario Mandzukic #FiorentinaJuve 1 shot, 1 goal, 14/20 passes (70%), 3 chances created, 2 clearances (via @StatsZone)

The 29-year-old was also successful on the one occasion he took on a Viola player and created three clear scoring opportunities, while his own defensive performance deserves to be noted. Making two clearances and winning the single aerial dual he contested, Mandzukic showed just why he has supplanted Alvaro Morata in the Juventus starting XI.

His form over the entire campaign has been of a similarly high standard, with his goals often proving vital to Juve’s efforts.

He joined the Bianconeri last summer in a €19 million deal, according to the club’s official website, and made an immediate impact as he opened the scoring in their SuperCoppa Italiana triumph over Lazio back in August.

OptaPaolo ✔ ‎@OptaPaolo
10 - Mario Mandzukic has now reached double figure scoring in Serie A. He has scored in 4 of his last 5 league apps. Super.

Doing the same as the Italian side beat Manchester City in England, it would also be his goal that subsequently secured a 1-0 victory over the Premier League club in Turin back in November. Yet Mandzukic would—after scoring twice in a 3-2 win over Carpi—endure a barren streak that stretched from December to April.

In March, Allegri told Sky Sport Italia (h/t Football Italia) that the striker’s “generosity” in tracking back had hampered Mandzukic’s sharpness in front of goal, only to see him bounce back in emphatic fashion this month.

Ending his drought to hand Juve a 1-0 win over Empoli, he went on to bag against Lazio and AC Milan, and his effort against Fiorentina means he has now struck four times in his last five outings and delivered on Allegri’s pre-season assessment of their new acquisition.

“Mandzukic scored goals in every league, has strong character, is of an international level and will do well,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia (h/t Football Italia) in June 2015. “We signed Mandzukic because we specifically wanted him. He’s a great player and I am very happy.”

Still needing to confirm the Serie A title and with the Coppa Italia final against AC Milan awaiting next month, Allegri will hope Mandzukic continues his current form to help La Madama seal two more trophies before the season is over.

Juventus win fifth straight Serie A
title after Napoli lose to Roma

14sl0lh.jpg

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/juventus/story/2858561/juventus-win-fifth-straight-serie-a-title-after-napoli-lose-to-roma

Apr 25, 2016

Juventus won a fifth consecutive Serie A title after Napoli failed to beat Roma on Monday.

Napoli had to claim all three points at the Stadio Olimpico to keep their slim hopes of catching Juve alive but were defeated 1-0 by third-placed Roma as Radja Nainggolan struck a late winner.

Juventus have officially won 32 Scudettos, and two more league titles were later revoked following a referee scandal.

Massimiliano Allegri's side last lost on Oct. 28, when a 1-0 defeat to Sassuolo left them 11th in the table, but they have since taken 73 points from a possible 75 to move clear at the top.

Following the Sassuolo result, the Old Lady had 12 points from 10 games and were 11 points off the summit.

Defender Leonardo Bonucci, who has been with the club for all five championship seasons, said the slow start made this title even more special.

"It's been a crazy season given everything that has happened," Bonucci told Mediaset. "They wrote us off as dead in October, but they forgot that we carry the Juventus Scudetto on our chest.

"We had to change course, the Juventus of the first few months was too bad to be the real one. Credit should be given to the coach, who allowed us to think about every game without anxiety.

"No one expected Juventus to win the Scudetto in April. This will go down in history for the way it came and because it's the fifth."

Juventus watched the game at their Vinovo training centre on Monday and later came outside to celebrate with fans at the gates.

The title was the first for Juventus' leading scorer Paulo Dubala, who joined the club from Palermo last summer.

"The result made us celebrate. I am very happy today, because entering into the history books with Juventus is priceless to me," Dybala told Mediaset Premium.

"I am so happy with what we achieved today and I hope it is the first of many trophies for me here. We must continue like this and not let off the pace."

Juventus lost in the Champions League to Bayern Munich in the round of 16, but they are also looking to defend the Coppa Italia in the final against AC Milan on May 21.

"We did really well to come back -- to be 12 points clear with three games to go is huge," Allegri said. "Juve have done something amazing. Now we've got three games to honour before the Coppa Italia final.

"This is the first brick, considering we're a young squad, on the way to winning the Champions League, which has got to be our objective for next season. Juve had a great Champions League campaign this year, but we can still get better.

"We need a bit of luck, but we've created some solid foundations."

This is the fourth time a team have won five straight Scudettos. Juventus previously accomplished the feat from 1931-36, while Torino were champions from 1943-49 and Inter Milan from 2006-2010.

Among Europe's top five leagues, only Real Madrid in Spain (1960-65 and 1985-90) and Lyon in France (2001-08) have also won at least five league titles in a row.

Juventus can celebrate the title in front of their home fans against Carpi on Sunday.

"This is the best one because this season has really been crazy and incredible,'' Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon said. "It shows the technical and moral strength of the team, and the desire not to give up and continue surprising."

Roma 1-0 Napoli: Late Nainggolan strike
hands Serie A crown to Juventus

The Partenopei needed a win to ensure the Scudetto race rumbled on for another week
but their narrow loss at the Stadio Olimpico on Monday dashed their lingering title hopes.

Radja Nainggolan's late strike secured a 1-0 victory for Roma over Napoli to hand Juventus their fifth consecutive Serie A title on Monday.
Napoli went into the match knowing nothing but a victory would keep them in the title race after Juve's dramatic 2-1 win over Fiorentina on Sunday, but Nainggolan's fine low finish in the closing minutes brought an end to their lingering hopes.

Maurizio Sarri's side enjoyed the better chances in blustery conditions in the capital, with Wojciech Szczesny saving superbly to deny the returning Gonzalo Higuain in the first half and Marek Hamsik missing a glorious late opening, but they could not find a breakthrough against Luciano Spalletti's improving side.

The result means Juve hold an unassailable 12-point lead at the top with three games to go, while Napoli are just two clear of Roma, who require one more win to be mathematically certain of a Champions League place.

Official: Juventus retain Scudetto!

2usvi21.jpg

http://www.football-italia.net/83381/official-juventus-retain-scudetto?

Apr 25, 2016

Juventus have officially retained the Scudetto for a fifth-consecutive season.

The Bianconeri won 2-1 at Fiorentina last night, meaning that Napoli had to beat Roma to keep the title race going for another week.

However, the Partenopei fell to late defeat at Stadio Olimpico, handing the Scudetto to Massimiliano Allegri’s side.

The Turin giants have now won Serie A for the fifth year in a row, equalling their own record from the 1930s, when they lifted the title every year between 1931 and 1935.

Il Grande Torino also won five in a row in the 1940s, a streak which would almost certainly have been more were it not for a two-year suspension of Serie A for World War II.

The team was tragically killed in a plane crash at Superga just before their fifth triumph, and were never able to go for a sixth.

Inter also won five Scudetti between 2006 and 2010, but the first of those remains controversial, as it was awarded to the Nerazzurri after the Calciopoli scandal.

Originally, Roberto Mancini’s side had finished in third-place, 15 points behind Juventus and trailing Milan by 12.

This season’s triumph by Juventus is made all the more remarkable by the fact that Allegri’s side endured a disastrous start to the campaign.

The Bianconeri won just one of their opening six Serie A games - none of their first three, their one point being the worst return since 1962 - and a defeat to Sassuolo on October 28 left them 12th in the table, 11 points from the top.

After public criticism from captain Gianluigi Buffon and veteran Patrice Evra, however, that match proved to be a turning point in the season.

Since that result, Juve have won 24 of their next 25 Serie A games, with the only points dropped being a 0-0 at Bologna.

Simone Zaza’s late deflected winner against Napoli in Week 25 allowed the Old Lady to go clear at the top for the first time this season, and a stuttering end of season from the Partenopei saw a nine-point gap open up.

With the defeat today, the gap is now 12 points at the top, with only nine points left to be played for, mathematically sealing the title for Juve.

Max Allegri has already targeted the Champions League for next season, while a sixth-consecutive Scudetto would set a new record.

Juventus have claimed their fifth successive Serie A title after closest rivals Napoli fell to a 1-0 defeat to Roma on Monday afternoon, ending their slim hopes of catching the Turin outfit.

After an early season blip which saw them pick up just one point from their opening three games, Max Allegri's side have been in stunning form, unbeaten in their last 25 league matches and drawing only one of those against Bologna.

That run has seen them rocket to the top of the table and they remain 12 points clear of Napoli after the Partenopei failed to close the gap, meaning, with three games to spare, Juve are champions again.

Napoli were undone by an 89th-minute winner from Radja Nainggolan as Roma won an entertaining clash at Stadio Olimpico, meaning Juventus' 2-1 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday was enough to secure the title.

Juventus currently have 85 points and are on course to eclipse their points tally from last season, while summer signing Paulo Dybala leads their scoring charts with 16 goals - ranking him second in Serie A behind Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain (30).

Veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon also played a key role in Juventus' success, keeping 20 clean sheets in 34 games and setting a new mark of 973 minutes without conceding along the way.

Juventus meet Carpi, Verona and Sampdoria in their remaining three Serie A games, before they take on AC Milan in the Coppa Italia final on May 21 as they chase the domestic double.

Juventus crowned Serie A champions
after Napoli suffer late defeat at Roma

Juventus were finally able to celebrate winning their fifth straight Serie A title after nearest challengers Napoli lost 1-0 at Roma on Monday afternoon.

Ever since the Bianconeri, who have won 24 of their last 25 games, replaced Napoli as league leaders back in February the destination of the Scudetto has appeared to be Turin, and indeed Juve had pulled 12 points clear at the top by beating Fiorentina in Tuscany 18 hours earlier.

Massimiliano Allegri and many of his players watched from the comfort of their Vinovo training base as a late goal from Roma's Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan at the Stadio Olimpico irrevocably ended Napoli's dream of landing a first Italian championship since 1990.

When the festivities die down in Piedmont, Juve can resume their empire building as head coach Allegri is set to sign a new contract with the club he took to the Champions League final last year.

Napoli lose to Roma, Juventus clinch
fifth consecutive Serie A title

And this is why Max Allegri was telling us to be patient during the rough days of September and October.

In the ultimate kind of sports cliche, the 2015-16 Serie A season has proven to be a marathon and not a sprint. Juventus, ringing in a new era with a new-look roster was sitting just outside the relegation zone three games into the new campaign back in mid-September. Come the final week of April with three games left in the season, Juve have won their fifth consecutive Scudetto thanks to Roma beating Napoli 1-0 on Monday.

Allegri had been preaching at his pre-match press conference on Saturday that four points were needed to wrap this title up. Well, Juventus got a little help from their Roman friends as known-Juve admirer and all around good guy Radja Nainggolan's last-minute goal was the difference at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. It pushed Juventus' lead in Serie A to 12 points with three games to go.

That means No. 34 is here. Officially official, it's here.

Through all the struggles, through all of the early-season issues, through everything, Juventus rose out from the bottom part of the table and into the top spot like a freaking phoenix coming out of the ashes. The club has recorded 24 wins in their last 25 Serie A games, not suffering a league loss since the latter days of October. It was just a few days later that all of this start, with a Halloween day win over Torino. It's only continued over the next six months, culminating in Juve getting word after their training session on Monday that they can break open the bubbly and do some celebrating of their own.

Seventy-three points claimed out of a possible 75. That's just crazy to think about. Ever since that final day of October, Juventus has been a train that no domestic opponent could completely slow down.

That's why this Juventus team has won been able to win it's fifth consecutive title. These things don't happen very often, so you better damn well know that Paul Pogba won't be the only person losing his mind and dancing on a table today. It's one of those days where if you love yourself some Juventus, you're going to be singing something that starts with "SIAMO NOI, SIAMO NOI!!!!" more than just once in all likelihood.

As Prince once famously said, "Let's go crazy, let's get nuts!"

Let us also now hear announcers mention the "Well, they lost Arturo Vidal, Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tévez..." line followed up by "...and still won the Serie A title!" now. Why? Because it's only the gosh darn truth, that's why.

Dybala: 'Priceless Juve'

Paulo Dybala said “entering into the history books with Juventus is priceless” after a fifth consecutive Scudetto.

The Bianconeri secured the title today thanks to Napoli’s 1-0 defeat away to Roma, having already beaten Fiorentina last night.

“Even a draw would’ve done it, but the important thing is we got what we were looking for,” Dybala told Mediaset Premium.

“The result made us celebrate. I am very happy today, because entering into the history books with Juventus is priceless to me.

“I am so happy with what we achieved today and I hope it is the first of many trophies for me here. We must continue like this and not let off the pace.”

Juve are the first side ever to win the Scudetto after losing four of the opening 10 rounds, but have won 24 of the last 25.

“Juan Cuadrado’s late goal in the Turin derby was the turning point and gave us that push we needed for the comeback.”

Pogba goes crazy & Allegri goes airborne:
Juventus react to 'hi5toric' Scudetto

The French midfielder did his best to smash a dressing room table with his interpretation
of Stomp, while the coach was set upon by his charges and Simone Zaza emulated Ronaldo!

Few would have guessed after Juventus' tepid start to the season that they would already be celebrating their latest Serie A title as early as the last days of April.

But the Italian giants recovered from the losses of Andrea Pirlo, Carlos Tevez and Arturo Vidal to take the second half of the season by storm, and Napoli's 1-0 defeat to Roma on Monday confirmed an historic fifth straight Scudetto.

As you may imagine, the club and its players were rather pleased with the success, and full time in the Stadio Olimpic was the cue for unrestrained joy in the Juve dressing room.

Paul Pogba characteristically took centre-stage with some manic jumping, while Simone Zaza did his best Cristiano Ronaldo in his smalls and an oversized cap.

Colombian Juan Cuadrado, meanwhile, chose to celebrate with a fat cigar, skilfully managed while he took in the action on his cellphone.

But it was not just the players who enjoyed themselves. Massimiliano Allegri was in the thick of celebrations, although it is debatable how much he revelled in being hurled up in the air by his delighted troops.

Defensive lynchpin Leonardo Bonucci later expressed his own jubilation at having picked up a fifth straight Serie A title, accompanied by a Zebra sporting a rather smart flattop hairdo.

JuventusFC ✔ ‎@juventusfcen
.@bonucci_leo19: "It's a wonderful feeling to make #HI5TORY."

Those celebrations in the dressing room and beyond were only the start of what is certain to be a long night of revelry for the Italian club - but they certainly deserve to let their hair down after another scintillating season at the Serie A summit.

Leonardo Bonucci celebrates Juventus’ fifth-consecutive Scudetto - “they said we were dead in October!”

Napoli’s defeat at Roma earlier today handed the title to the Bianconeri for another year, sparking scenes of celebration in Turin.

“It’s been a crazy season given everything that has happened,” Bonucci told Mediaset.

“They wrote us off as dead in October, but they forgot that we carry the Juventus Scudetto on our chest.

“We had to change course, the Juventus of the first few months was too bad to be the real one. Credit should be given to the Coach [Max Allegri] who allowed us to think about every game without anxiety.

“No-one expected Juventus to win the Scudetto in April, this will go down in history for the way it came and because it’s the fifth.”

Trezeguet praises historic Juventus

The former France international picked up two Scudetti during his time in Italy
and said that the mark achieved by the current Juve crop is a fantastic achievement.

Ex-France striker David Trezeguet hailed Juventus after his former club collected a fifth straight Serie A title.

Trezeguet won back-to-back Scudetti in 2001-02 and 2002-03 during his decade in Turin but the 38-year-old marvelled at the feat achieved by Massimiliano Allegri's current crop.

On the back of their 2-1 win against rivals Fiorentina on Sunday, Juventus were able to start their celebrations when Roma defeated nearest challengers Napoli 1-0 on Monday - making the Old Lady's 12-point lead unassailable.

The remarkable run matches the five consecutive Serie A crowns Juventus concluded in 1934-35 and Trezeguet believes Allegri's squad, the nucleus of which began this streak under Antonio Conte, have earned their place in history.

"This Juventus is really interesting," he told Omnisport. "Five scudettos in a row is a great achievement.

"Credit goes to the players and the managers. I think this team are making history today.

"Of course, any club winning five titles makes history but during this season Juventus proved to be by far the strongest."

Juventus' dominance over the season is all the more impressive considering they won three of their first 10 Serie A matches this term, dropping only two points in the subsequent 25 league outings.

Buffon: ‘The best Scudetto’

Juventus captain Gianluigi Buffon declares “this is the most beautiful Scudetto”.

The Bianconeri officially won their fifth title in a row this afternoon, when Napoli lost at 1-0 at Roma.

“Some of watched the match in Rome,” Buffon explained to Mediaset after winning his ninth Serie A title, though two were revoked in the Calciopoli scandal.

“I must admit though, I wasn’t that tense because with the three points we got in Florence we basically put the mortgage on the final victory.

“The feat we’ve achieved is crazy and amazing. I think this is the most beautiful Scudetto by far because it was a demonstration of incredible strength.

“It was a victory of cohesion and solidity, from the squad to the club. This win is a prize that’s gratifying for me, and without wishing to sound presumptuous I think it was fair.

“When we were second to Napoli by a few points it would have been a shame to stop and settle for that.

“After a run like that we could have stopped to catch our breath, but we didn’t want to stop at the climax.”
