Nov 25, 2015Three thoughts on Man City's 1-0 defeat at Juventus in their UEFA Champions League group stage clash:1. Man City fail to show progress in Juve lossManchester City were already through to the Champions League round of 16 before Wednesday night's 1-0 defeat to Juventus but now they will have to rely on an eliminated Sevilla beating the Italians in a couple of weeks to help them finish atop Group D. Finishing second, and thus potentially facing some of the biggest hitters in the competition, is one concern for City but this performance and another failure to beat a big side will perhaps be a more significant one. Before the game, Manuel Pellegrini described this game as a "test" for his City side. A test against one of the better sides in Europe, albeit one going through a transitional period and a reasonably poor run of form. City's record in big games this season has been questionable, to say the least, leading to inevitable concerns about their mental fortitude when the hardest challenges come, so this game was a chance to set some of those concerns aside. It was a chance they didn't take.Juventus played well, suggesting their last two performances in the league (encouraging wins against Empoli and Milan) could be the start of a more permanent improvement in their season as a whole. Yet they weren't exceptional; they didn't need to be. The hosts were simply more incisive and threatening. Left wing-back Alex Sandro and Paul Pogba were particularly impressive and only some poor finishing -- most notably from Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata, the latter after some brilliant approach play -- prevented the scoreline from being more emphatic.City claimed a foul by Mario Mandzukic for Juve's early goal, which would turn out to be the winner, but it looked more like he and Nicolas Otamendi were tugging at each other's arms and the big striker was simply a bit stronger.Maybe an even bigger worry for City than the result will be the injury that forced Joe Hart off in the closing stages, the England keeper limping off clutching his right hamstring. It wasn't entirely clear how he suffered the injury, but Pellegrini had gestured to him earlier in the game as if to ask after his fitness. If City left him on to see if the injury would clear up on the pitch and it turns out he aggravated the problem, it might be a huge mistake for a team that has already been without their most important players for significant spells this term.2. City struggle again without KompanyIt's become a recurring theme when looking at Manchester City this season to say their defence not only seems weaker without Vincent Kompany, but it also appears devoid of direction and organisation. The City skipper was absent again in Turin, as he has been for most of their worst performances so far this season: the defeats to West Ham, Tottenham and Liverpool to name just three. It's not simply that he is City's best defender but that his influence makes those around him much better; when alongside him, Eliaquim Mangala has actually been pretty decent this season, Martin Demichelis seems more assured and while he's only played with Otamendi a few times, Pellegrini will surely feel more confident about his newest defensive recruit bedding in with Kompany alongside him.One moment highlighted the problem immediately after Morata was introduced early in the second half. A gap of some 20 yards opened up in the City defence, with Otamendi horribly dragged out of position. Morata dinked the ball over Hart but wide of the mark, just one of a number of occasions when City were easily sliced apart only for poor finishing or Hart's heroics keeping them in it.At points over the past few seasons, Kompany's mistakes became so frequent they could no longer be classed as "uncharacteristic" though blame was often placed upon those around him. This season he has looked more purposeful and much sharper, and while there are other issues in the City squad, the Belgian's infuriatingly persistent injuries are perhaps the biggest reason for their worrying flakiness.3. Pogba again supreme in Juve's midfieldJuventus looked much more incisive from the very start, attacking with a purpose that City neither showed or could cope with. Perhaps that's because the game meant more to Juventus, perhaps they were spurred on by the home crowd ... or perhaps one team had Paul Pogba and the other didn't.There are times when Pogba looks as if he's playing in a game at school: the biggest kid is automatically the best player because he can simply stride through the opposing team, leaving smaller and feebler children just bouncing off him. Sometimes, it looks a little unfair. There's no other midfielder in world football who combines Pogba's strength, skill and passing range so remarkably. With some players height can be detrimental to close control, but Pogba actually uses his absurdly long legs to his advantage, snaking them around the ball and opponents to keep hold of the thing, like an elephant using its trunk to gather up its young and keep them close. One piece of skill just before Juve opened the scoring showed this perfectly. The big Frenchman found himself with his back to goal outside the penalty area, options seemingly limited, but he performed a neat drag-back and flicked the ball to Paulo Dybala in the same movement, putting the young striker through on goal. It was a moment of marvellous invention and awareness, and showed why he's so highly thought of (and indeed so coveted) by teams like City.Of course, in among all these brilliant moments he can go missing in games (and his influence waned significantly in the second half), which means some write him off as a 'highlights' player, and can lack consistency, but he's also a player who can provide a piece of match-winning brilliance. You can teach and work on the consistency, but the rest is more difficult to find, and is why Pogba is already among the very best, and will get better. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 25, 2015Juventus have sealed their place in the last 16 of the Champions League by claiming a narrow 1-0 victory over Manchester City.Fernandinho blazed over the bar from close range for the visitors, before Mario Mandzukic turned in a cross from Alex Sandro to give the Bianconeri the lead.Sergio Aguero and Fernando were then denied by Gianluigi Buffon and Raheem Sterling fired wide late on as City slipped to their second defeat in the group stage. Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at the events that unfolded in Turin.Match statisticsJUVENTUS Shots: 13On target: 5Possession: 41%Corners: 2Fouls: 11MANCHESTER CITY Shots: 13On target: 2Possession: 59%Corners: 8Fouls: 12Was the result fair?City will feel that they did enough to earn at least a point from the match after creating plenty of chances, but they lacked a real cutting edge in the final third. The difference between the teams proved to be Mandzukic's well-taken effort in the first half, and a combination of poor finishing and fine goalkeeping down both ends ensured that there would be no further goals.Juventus's performanceThe Old Lady are well known for grinding out important results when it matters most and they did exactly that this evening. They showed glimpses of the quality that they have at their disposal and took their chance when it came their way. It was not the best performance that Massimiliano Allegri's side have produced this season and they gave City a lot of space to exploit inside their own half, but the victory has moved moved them to the top of their group ahead of their final match against Sevilla next month.Manchester City's performanceManuel Pellegrini will have been hoping for a response from his team after their 4-1 defeat against Liverpool at the weekend, and they showed far more resolve against the Italian champions. They took the game to Juventus and had an early chance to go ahead through Fernandinho, but the Brazilian skied high over the bar, and within minutes the hosts were in front. The Citizens pushed hard for an equaliser, but they were unable to make the most of their openings as their night ended on a losing note.Sports Mole's man of the matchAlex Sandro: The Brazilian has found playing time hard to come by since his move from Porto in the summer, but he did his chances of a regular place in the starting lineup no harm this evening. He was instrumental in the winning goal for Juventus, as his fine cross was tucked home by Mandzukic, while he looked a constant threat going forward down the left wing throughout the game.Biggest gaffeClaudio Marchisio was guilty of a huge mistake at the end of the first half as his poor back pass allowed Aguero to race clean through on goal. However, Buffon was quickly off his line to make a fine block from the striker and bail out his colleague at the same time.Referee performanceFelix Brych was not given too many problems in the centre of the pitch this evening, and was forced into handing out just three yellow cards, all to City players for straightforward bookable offences. He allowed the game to flow as much as he could, but the second half was littered with a number of fouls from both sets of players. What next?Juventus: The Bianconeri are back in league action on Sunday evening with a trip to Sicily to face Palermo.Manchester City: City will attempt to recover from tonight's defeat when they host Southampton on Saturday afternoon. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee: Felix Brych (Germany) Allegri: 'Decision already made' http://www.football-italia.net/76272/allegri-decision-already-made? Nov 25, 2015 Max Allegri reveals he made his tactical decisions for Manchester City “two days ago,” as Juventus qualify for the next round. Mario Mandzukic scored the winning goal after 18 minutes in Turin this evening, sending the Bianconeri top of the group. Now a draw in Sevilla will be enough to ensure Juve go through as group winners ahead of City. “I am very happy with the performance. The lads did well and it not easy to qualify with a game to spare from such a tough group,” Allegri told Mediaset Premium. “Keeping a clean sheet was an important element too. The credit goes to the team who played well against a side of great quality. “We must do better, as we have to put together consistent growth and learn how to control the various moments of the match, as we still have a lot of young and inexperienced players. Winning must become normal again.” Allegri shocked many by dropping Alvaro Morata and Juan Cuadrado in favour of Mandzukic and Stephan Lichtsteiner, while Alex Sandro was man of the match in a 3-5-2 system. “The decision to use Mandzukic in place of Morata was made two days ago. I needed Morata more for what he could give in the second half when City were getting tired. “Alex Sandro did very well this evening and he is an excellent signing. Players like him need to be allowed to settle in, as nobody is ready to give their best in a new environment straight away. He did well in attack and defence, while Patrice Evra guaranteed experience in a delicate moment of the match. “Paulo Dybala is learning more and more to connect with the midfield and become a support striker. On the other hand, Morata is learning more how to be a genuine centre-forward.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 25, 2015Juventus beat Manchester City 1-0 in their Champions League Group D game at the Juventus Stadium on Wednesday evening to move to the top of the group with one game remaining.Mario Mandzukic scored the only goal of the game with a cool finish from an Alex Sandro cross in the first half. Juventus Gianluigi Buffon – 6.5 – Cool - Had to make a smart intervention to stop Aguero scoring following a bad back-pass and made an excellent low save following a City corner. Both were crucial in Juve keeping a clean sheet.Andrea Barzagli – 6.5 – Capable - Coped well with the threat of De Bruyne and exhibited the understanding that has become characteristic of his partnership with Bonucci and Chiellini.Leonardo Bonucci – 6.5 – Calm - Made several challenges and interventions and was a calming influence at the back but his distribution out of defence was not as accurate as usual.Giorgio Chiellini – 6.5 – Committed - The usual committed performance from the veteran defender who also looked threatening on occasion when charging out of defence with the ball.Stephan Lichtsteiner – 6 – Quiet - Almost scored in the first half following a good exchange with Mandzukic and although he patrolled the right-flank as usual, his involvement in the game was fleeting.Stefano Sturaro – 6 - Unseen - Didn’t get on the ball as much as his two fellow midfielders and as a result went unnoticed for much of the game despite some honest pressing of the opposition.Claudio Marchisio – 6.5 - Dictator - Assured performance from the experienced campaigner that was key to his side controlling the midfield area. One mistake did almost gift City a goal however after a poor back-pass.Paul Pogba – 7 - Composer - Displayed all his usual skill on the ball and made the most of the space he was afforded by City’s midfield to orchestrate Juve’s attacks.Alex Sandro – 7 – Aggressive - Tenacious in defence and daring going forward, a strong wing-back performance from the Brazilian. Provided the assist for Mandzukic’s opener with a great cross. Substituted after 78 minutes.Mario Mandzukic – 7 - Goal - Good finish from Alex Sandro’s cross for the opening goal and had the better of Otamendi physically. Substituted in the second half for Morata.Paulo Dybala – 6.5 - Buzz - Had a couple of nice dribbles and was full of running but struggled to produce an end product to threaten Joe Hart’s goal. Substituted after 82 minutes.SubstitutionsAlvaro Morata (55 minutes) – 6 - Had two strong runs into the City penalty area but missed both the resulting one-on-one’s with Hart.Patrice Evra (78 minutes) – N/A - Had little involvement after replacing the impressive Alex Sandro at left wing-back.Juan Cuadrado (82 minutes) – N/A - Had a shot blocked shortly after coming on but had little influence following that. Manchester City Joe Hart – 6.5 – Saves - Made an excellent stop from Mandzukic and an important block on Lichtsteiner in the first half but could do little about Mandzukic’s close-range strike. Came off injured after 81 minutes.Bacary Sagna – 5.5 - Exposed - Was left a little exposed at times against the attacking Alex Sandro and wasn’t able to produce many deliveries into the box when going forward.Martin Demichelis – 6 – Managed - Had a tricky task facing the nippy Dybala but coped well enough in the end. Left bigger spaces at the back as City pushed forward towards the end but that was to be expected.Nicolas Otamendi – 5 – Lightweight - Didn’t cope well with the physical aspect of the game and ended up on the floor on too many occasions. Won several free-kicks that perhaps wouldn’t have been awarded by another referee.Gael Clichy – 6 - Steady - Decent showing from the Frenchman who coped well with the stamina of Lichtsteiner, but his support of the attacking play on the left flank was limited.Fernando – 5.5 - Lost - Failed to get tight enough to Juve players in the midfield area and as a result Marchisio and Pogba dictated proceedings during crucial periods of the game.Fernandinho – 6 – Confused - Missed a great chance in the first half which he really should have scored. Did try to drive forward whenever he got possession but didn’t always choose the right option. Substituted after 60 minutes.Jesus Navas – 5.5 – Toothless - Was well marshalled by an alert Alex Sandro and, as a result, was unable to provide any useful supply to City players attacking the penalty area.Yaya Toure – 6 - Powerless - Not the powerful presence that he is capable of being and wasted a number of shots when well-placed. Looked to lose interest as the game wore on.Kevin De Bruyne – 6 - Subdued - Produced a couple of decent balls into the Juve penalty area but ultimately wasn’t able to stamp his attacking influence on the game in the wide areas.Sergio Aguero – 5.5 – Unprepared - Wasted a couple of opportunities when more might be expected of him and didn’t quite look match-fit or as sharp as usual. Substituted after 69 minutes.SubstitutionsFabian Delph (60 minutes) – 6 - Kept things simple in midfield after coming on for Fernandinho.Raheem Sterling (69 minutes) – 5.5 - Missed a glorious chance to equalise when well-placed in front of the Juve net.Willy Caballero (81 minutes) – N/A - Had nothing to do in the visitor’s goal after replacing the injured Hart. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee: Felix Brych (Germany) Pogba shows flawed Man City what they're missing Manuel Pellegrini's men had many issues on the night but Pogba's class, and City's midfield struggles, were so evident you cannot help but think the Frenchman is the solution. http://www.goal.com/en/news/1716/champions-league/2015/11/25/17709912/pogba-shows-flawed-man-city-what-theyre-missing?ICID=TP_TNM_ART_5 Nov 25, 2015 Sometimes when you watch a football match, you don't have to be a seasoned scout to notice the perfect player for a certain club. You don't have to have been to thousands of games across Europe, working closely with world-class coaches, to try to identify a hidden talent. Sometimes it's just plain to see. Watching Paul Pogba play against Manchester City was one of those occasions. Everybody knows who he is, everybody knows what he can do, and almost everybody knows City have been interested in his services. If they needed any further convincing of his talents, this was it. He not only put in a classy performance, it just happened to show up what City are lacking in their midfield. Pogba's contribution was not defining - Mario Mandzukic scored the winner and there were all manner of saves and misses which contributed to a 1-0 scoreline - but he was a big talking point in the build-up to this clash and he may well have persuaded City took have another look next summer, no matter the price. City, in truth, lacked a lot on the night. The full-backs, Bacary Sagna and the returning Gael Clichy, had poor games and Nicolas Otamendi would have been caught out for three goals if it were not for Joe Hart's contribution. Instead, the Argentine was only at fault for one, as he was caught square to his goal and was brushed off by Mandzukic for the winner. Fernandinho should have scored before Mandzukic opened the scoring, Gianluigi Buffon kept out Fernando with a wonder save, and Raheem Sterling somehow missed with the goal at his mercy. Sergio Aguero looked rusty when presented with chances of his own. One key issue was a lack of spark in midfield. The trio that worked so perfectly in Sevilla failed to click here, and too often City could not pick a way through the Juventus defence, or were left exposed as Juve broke away. More often than not, it was Pogba who led the charge. After Fernandinho's miss it was the Frenchman who burst forward, covering a good 40 yards of turf. His simple ball out wide allowed Alex Sandro to pick out Mandzukic. Those kind of driving runs from Pogba were common in the first hour. In the run up to the game a lot of the talk, especially in Italy, was of how the youngster stacks up against Yaya Toure. On this evidence, there was only one winner. The younger man burst past Toure, and his City team-mates, on a number of occasions. He showed a range of passing that added variety to Juve's game and displayed the battling, rangy nature that has earned comparisons to Patrick Vieira. It is, in truth, an unfair battle. Toure is 10 years Pogba's senior, his best days, as excellent as they were, are most likely behind him. Pogba showed he is capable of deft skill, too. With City lacking a cutting edge through the middle, his delightful backheel on the edge of the box during the first half was striking. His game was made up of moments like this. He may not have set up a goal or found the net himself, and his contribution did drop off towards the end of the clash, but he did more than enough to show his quality. The No.10 shirt he has inherited at Juve has weighed heavily on him at times this season but he has recovered in recent weeks and here, in a big match for his club, he was impressive again. Toure came close to leaving City earlier this year and his exit is still on the cards come the end of the season. Pogba, it seemed, came close to joining Barcelona in the summer and it is said City baulked at Juventus' asking price. It has also been claimed that an English club saw a bid of €80 million rejected. But he seems destined for the top and one club will have to fork out for his services. City, who spent around £150m on three players this summer and look destined to splash out again on their top targets, may well have to take the plunge, if only to stop either Real Madrid or Barca moving further ahead of them with the Frenchman in their ranks. The Blues would have secured top spot with victory here, a sure fire sign of their progress in Europe. Instead they will likely finish second and City fans will tell you a last-16 clash with Barca is now inevitable. There are many reasons why City failed on the night and many reasons why they are not yet ready to reach the Champions League final. They are a very good team, should be regarded as favourites for the Premier League title, but this summer's signings should only be regarded as the beginning of a much-needed squad overhaul. As simple as it may appear, signing Paul Pogba would go a long way to solving their issues. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 25, 2015 Juventus secured a berth in the knockout stages of the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in Turin, Italy, on Wednesday. Mario Mandzukic scored the only goal of the match as the Bianconeri leapfrogged their Premier League counterparts to take over first place in Group D. Both sides are now locked into round-of-16 spots, but which club will be seeded in the draw won't be decided until the final group matches in December. City manager Manuel Pellegrini had urged his side before the match to take advantage of the opportunity to secure the top spot in the group. He pointed toward poor luck in recent draws as a major reason for that added motivation, per Richard Tanner of the Daily Express. "Everyone criticized this club for our performances in Europe, but we have now qualified for the knockout stages for the third year in a row," Pellegrini said. "We were unlucky on both the previous occasions to draw Barcelona in the round of 16, so it's important to try to avoid them because it's important for our club to reach at least one step more." His players appeared game for the challenge in the early going as City controlled the pace of play. They nearly grabbed the lead at the quarter-hour mark as a battle in the box presented a golden opportunity for Fernandinho, but he fired his effort well over the bar. The missed chance loomed even larger two minutes later as Juventus got on the scoreboard first. Paul Pogba jump-started an attacking foray for the Bianconeri, which eventually ended up on the foot of Alex Sandro. He delivered a pinpoint cross into the box and Mario Mandzukic easily slotted the shot past Joe Hart for the goal. Andrew Jerell Jones of USA Today noted City appealed for a foul on the Croatian, who got tangled up with Nicolas Otamendi as the defender fell down, but no call got made:Andrew Jerell Jones ✔ @sluggahjells Otamendi looking for the foul on Mandzukic, does not get the call, and Juventus with the lead. City still managed to hold a possession edge, but the home side limited their space and prevented them from turning it into a constant barrage on Buffon. The visitors did generate a couple of chances. A Kevin De Bruyne corner was redirected on goal by Fernandinho, but a slight touch from Juventus' veteran goalkeeper was enough to knock it off the post. Toure couldn't regain his balance in time to tap home the rebound, either. Second-half substitute Raheem Sterling also found himself with a close-range opportunity, but he placed his shot just wide of the far post. It's the latest stop amid an extremely busy schedule that features seven games in 22 days. Juventus is caught up in a similar stretch of seemingly non-stop action. The Vecchia Signora will return to the pitch Sunday as they square off with Serie A foes Palermo. It's an opportunity to grab three much-needed points as they sit nine points behind Inter Milan through 13 fixtures. So expect some drama during the final matchday. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 25, 2015 Juventus director Beppe Marotta credited “the team and Max Allegri” with their victory over Manchester City. Having reached the Champions League Final last season, the Bianconeri have qualified for the Last 16 and need only a draw in Sevilla to be sure of winning the group. “The credit goes to the team and Allegri,” Marotta told Mediaset Premium. “We are happy. We had two objectives for the first half of the season and achieved them both: win the Italian Super Cup and qualify for the Champions League knockouts. “Our journey in Europe has been of a strong level too. From tomorrow we’ll forget this victory quickly and focus on Serie A with Palermo. “We have young signings and they will above all give the team a lot in future. Paulo Dybala is an immense talent and will grow further. “We were aware that our transfer strategy included risks, but we pondered our choices carefully.” Mario Mandzukic scored the decisive goal, but went off with an ice pack strapped to his leg. “It’s a muscular issue, we will wait for the complete diagnosis.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 25, 2015 Yaya Toure rued Manchester City's profligacy in front of goal after Juventus took control of Champions League Group D with a 1-0 victory in Turin. Fernandinho and Raheem Sterling both missed close-range chances for City at Juventus Stadium, with Mario Mandzukic's 18th-minute goal holding up as the match winner for the hosts. Juve join City in securing a place in the last 16 and the Serie A champions now require only a point from their final match against Sevilla to make sure of top spot and a seeded place in the draw. "I think we are quite disappointed," Toure told BT Sport. "It was a 50-50 game. Over the game we had more chances than them but in the end we weren't clinical. "It's part of football. To win you have to score goals and when we miss like that these things can happen." City's misery was compounded when they lost Joe Hart to a late injury after the goalkeeper had turned in another fine Champions League display. "Joe Hart played well, he saved I think two goals," Toure said. "In the first half and second half we had a clear-cut chance to draw. We were a little unlucky. "We have to bounce back in the next game that's coming." Mario Mandzukic's goal in the 18th minute ultimately proved decisive in Turin, but there were a host of chances spurned at both ends throughout a keenly-contested encounter. The victory means that last season's beaten finalists only need a point from their final group game at Sevilla to finish top of the standings ahead of City – the Premier League side that Italy international Marchisio holds in such high regard. "It wasn't easy at all, we could have scored another goal, but we could have conceded as well," the midfielder told Mediaset. "They are a team that can hurt you at any time with the quality players they have. "We are going in the right direction. We don't risk too much and we keep focused until the last minute." Juventus made a stuttering start to their Serie A title defence but have now lost just once in their last 11 matches across all competitions, with consistency in Europe serving as something of a catalyst for Massimiliano Allegri's team. "Europe has to be Juve's home and everyone must believe in that," Marchisio added. Based on what he said, it wasn't like he was just pulling it out of nowhere. Some of Juventus' best — and most important — results this season have come in the Champions League. And seeing as Marchisio has quite a bit of clout when he speaks, you tend to pay a little more attention when the words are coming out of his mouth.Well, following Juventus' 1-0 win over Manchester City in Turin on Wednesday night, we can add another one to the list of fine European performances. Was it perfect? No, of course not. Marchisio played a role in that, potentially gift-wrapping a goal to Man City if it wasn't for the ever-lasting heroics of one Gianluigi Buffon shutting things down once again. There were missed scoring chances in both halves. Those were goals that could have essentially put the game on ice and would have prevented us from having a few of those late-game heart-up-in-your-throat situations that always seem to happen when watching this team. But the end result was one we all wanted.Juventus won. Juventus got the three points. Juventus clinched their spot in the Champions League knockout round. We can rest easy now — at least a little bit.And that's what matters, right? We've seen this team struggle in the first half of the group stage before and have to essentially dig themselves out of a 15-foot hole because of what they did a month or two earlier. This season, though, they got the win over Man City away from home in the group stage opener, then handled Sevilla and now guaranteed to be playing Champions League football come the beginning of the 2016 calendar year. We don't know if they will be the top team coming out of Group D or in second — all Juve needs is a draw against Sevilla to wrap up first place — but we know they're still in the dance. That's because they won at home. And, as Claudio's words once again proved to be the absolute truth, they're at home in Europe. Fitting, that.JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen.@OfficialAllegri: "I'm very happy with the lads. Reaching the knockout stages in a very tough group with a game to spare wasn't easy."Random thoughts and observationsInto the knockout stages with a win and a clean sheet. Good times.Alex Sandro has three assists in his last four appearances. For a fullback, that's pretty damn impressive. We knew he was a very good threat on the left wing when it came to his offensive impact, but making this kind of impact virtually every time he steps onto the field? Yeah...The way he's playing, he definitely deserving more time in the starting lineup. But with Patrice Evra around and still playing as solid as ever, that's not going to be an easy choice for Max Allegri. Luckily he knows either option is a pretty good one. When was the last time that was the case when it came to Juventus' left backs?Mario Mandzukic's first goal-scoring opportunity was shanked as far right as you can get when faced with an entire goal to work with. But, like good strikers do, he didn't let that happen again. Juventus' goal was a beautiful one — the run from Paul Pogba, the on-point cross from Alex Sandro and the one-time volley by Mandzukic to beat Joe Hart. A team goal if there ever was one, and nice to see the big Croatian get a goal after a inauspicious opening to the game. How many of times in the last few years have we said the following: "Well, Gigi Buffon didn't have much to do, but when he was called into action, he was more than capable of handling it."? Buffon had to make two saves against City, according to WhoScored, but both of them were absolutely massive. The save after Marchisio's errant backpass was maybe the single-most important moment in the game. And the stuffing of Yaya Toure right on the line in the second half kept the shutout intact. This guy, he's good.If you mention Buffon, you have to mention the three central defenders playing in front of him — Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini — and how well they did. See? Rolling out the tried and trusted three-man defense ain't so bad, people. This game was proof of what Stefano Sturaro does well. And also proof of what he doesn't do well. He can do battle with anybody defensively, and he was great in that regard against Manchester City. But the part that still lacks in his game is the technical part. He's still young at 22, so he's not a finished product. And the way he is right now isn't so bad — he's had 12 tackles in his last two appearances — but you can't help but wonder how special of a player he would be if he had that technical ability to compliment the absolutely bulldozer-like workrate on defense.Speaking of special players, how good was Pogba against City? I mean, seriously, some of the moments he had on the ball Wednesday were pretty damn special.Knockout stages here we come, man. A goal from Mario Mandzukic was enough for the reigning Serie A champions to see off City in Turin and book their ticket for the knockout stages of the competition with 11 points from five games. Massimiliano Allegri's men are one of only four teams that are still unbeaten in the Champions League - Real Madrid, Barcelona and Zenit being the other three - and Buffon has stressed the beaten 2015 finalists do not fear anyone. "When we turn in performances like Wednesday's, we look a top-rate team and one that can hold its own against pretty much anyone," Buffon told reporters. The goalkeeper does not see the Italian champions as the favourites to win the competition, though, singling out holders Barcelona and Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich as the teams to beat. "After Barcelona and Bayern there is a group of important sides, of which we are part," he added. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 26, 2015 Mission accomplished for Juventus. They not only defeated Manchester City, 1-0, but secured their advancement in the Champions League by demonstrating the will to suffer, and a certain level of fluency that will please the critics. At home, in front of their own fans, many were not quite sure what to expect from this Bianconeri side. They may be collecting Serie A wins but their performances have been far from convincing. To make matters worse, when they are deemed favourites for the win, they have a tendency to underwhelm. Deployed in a 3-5-2 formation, manager Massimiliano Allegri did well to choose a strategy that would effectively exploit Manchester City's indiscipline in midfield and release his attack. Benefitting from the growing chemistry between his players, Juventus played as a unit and relied on their instincts with so many players finally demonstrating their value to the side. It's difficult to mention the world value and not immediately note or rather superfluously compliment Paul Pogba's performance. While it must be said that Fernandinho and Yaya Toure's desire to push forward and contribute to the offence allowed Pogba a direct and available channel to dribble his way through, the manner in which he charged forward, remained alert to the wise options and showed off his glorious technique was mesmeric to say the very least. Long limbs on display and simply bursting with confidence, perhaps the quality that impressed the most was that at long last, the Frenchman played like a true veteran, a man fully aware of his strengths. He did not second-guess each movement, he didn't slow down play to make sure he was making the right decision and he didn't go backwards. He believed in everything he did and thus affected the game in a manner he simply couldn't manage in the early part of the season. It certainly helps that alongside him, he had Alex Sandro, a player who continues to impress the fans a little more each day. Not only is this a wing-back who can actually deliver accurate crosses (a rarity at Juve), but one who is also tactically adept. Aware of how to facilitate offensive movements by making the right runs and taking up the right positions, he enhanced Pogba's play. A man who reacts quickly and instinctively, Sandro's determination, hard work and ability to provide the assists are making all the difference, helping Mario Mandzukic to score the winner of the evening. While the Croatian is the one who many will praise for his sacrifices on the pitch and fine goal that ensured all three points, it is difficult not to note the impressive work of Paulo Dybala alongside him. Italian newspapers have been quick to note how much muscle the Argentine has gained, how his physique is improving and how much ground he covers for Juve. But one quality that must be noted when describing the player's development is how much more of a predator he has become. Busying the centre-backs all night long, Dybala was consistently on hand to receive from Pogba, to position himself well and to diligently occupy the space between the lines, demonstrating his growing understanding of how to work with the midfield. Furthermore, like club legend Alessandro Del Piero, he's also doing a fine job of drawing out fouls in dangerous areas; if only the team had another Andrea Pirlo who could score from all the set pieces. While those three performances stood out, it must be said that each player worked incredibly hard to secure the result. From goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon's decisive saves to Andrea Barzagli's narrowing down of the angles to hinder City's attackers, Juventus may not be where they were last season, but they are growing and producing rather good displays despite the fact both Juan Cuadrado, Alvaro Morata and Patrice Evra were on the bench, while Sami Khedira is out with injury. Last year, it was the win against Olympiakos that kicked everything into gear for the Old Lady, starting with the change in formation, going from a 3-5-2 into a 4-2-3-1. With so much varied talent in this squad and so many new arrivals, it has taken time for Allegri to find the right balance. This season, there is not right formation, there is only tactical versatility and while the team is not quite there yet, attractive patterns of play are emerging to allow for optimism. A hard-fought win means Juventus now top their Champions League group, needing only a draw against Sevilla to solidify their position and ensure they avoid a clash against the heavyweights in the next round. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

The Bianconeri are two points clear and need a draw at Sevilla to top their group. Manager Massimiliano Allegri had to show great restraint at the careless manner in which the team played at times. On the overall showing by the team and the importance of beating then-leaders City - "I am very happy with the performance. The lads did well and it not easy to qualify with a game to spare from such a tough group. "Keeping a clean sheet was an important element too. The credit goes to the team who played well against a side of great quality. "We must do better, as we have to put together consistent growth and learn how to control the various moments of the match, as we still have a lot of young and inexperienced players. Winning must become normal again." There were some raised eyebrows at the starting lineup Allegri named, with Mario Mandzukic and Stefan Lichtsteiner on instead of Alvaro Morata and Juan Cuadrado in a 3-5-2 formation - "The decision to use Mandzukic in place of Morata was made two days ago. I needed Morata more for what he could give in the second half when City were getting tired. "Alex Sandro did very well this evening and he is an excellent signing. Players like him need to be allowed to settle in, as nobody is ready to give their best in a new environment straight away. He did well in attack and defence, while Patrice Evra guaranteed experience in a delicate moment of the match. "Paulo Dybala is learning more and more to connect with the midfield and become a support striker. On the other hand, Morata is learning more how to be a genuine centre-forward." Midfielder Claudio Marchisio, who was responsible for one horrendous back pass that almost let Sergio Aguero in, stated again how important the competition is to the players and the organization - "It wasn't remotely simple. We could've finished it off with another goal, but they could've hurt us at any moment. "We are continuing on the right path, we allow few chances and remain sharp to the 90th minute. "Europe has to be Juve's home and everyone must believe in that. Those who joined the club must understand this is the competition that matters most in the world." http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 26, 2015 City, already qualified following their 3-1 win at Sevilla last time out, travelled to Turin looking to secure top spot in Group D as well as avenge their 2-1 defeat to the Bianconeri at the Etihad Stadium in September. But a second successive defeat to the Italian champions means City now look likely to finish second behind Juve in the group. Juventus are now two points clear before facing Sevilla away next month, when City host Borussia Moenchengladbach. “Hats off to the lads, they’ve gifted me qualification with a game to spare,” said Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri. “It wasn’t an easy group. Borussia (Moenchengladbach) had a fantastic last season and Manchester are a technical side with top players. “It’s never easy to win a Champions League game. We’ve done that, again, while not conceding a goal at home. We’re proud of that statistic so the lads deserve all the credit they get.” City manager Manuel Pellegrini complained his defender Nicolas Otamendi was fouled by Mandzukic before the Croatian scored, and, despite Juve missing a host of chances, the Chilean felt the visitors were unlucky. “I think we were unlucky to lose,” said Pellegrini. “They scored a goal which I think was a foul before Mandzukic finished but the referee didn’t blow the whistle. But we had chances and didn’t score.” Pellegrini said beating Juventus on their own turf would also be a gauge of his side’s Champions League-winning potential, but it quickly became clear their current injury woes would play to Juve’s advantage. City forwards Wilfried Bony, David Silva and Samir Nasri are all still sidelined but the absence of Belgian centre-back and captain Vincent Kompany was most felt as Juventus went two points clear of City ahead of the sides’ final games next month. Juventus, who deployed a 3-5-2 amid injury concerns of their own, survived an early scare when Kevin De Bruyne was allowed to fire a cross into the area from the right following a corner and Fernandinho unleashed a drive that spun just wide with Gianluigi Buffon at full stretch. Juve were let off again after Giorgio Chiellini got tangled up with Yaya Toure in the area and Fernandinho pounced, only to flash over from 10 yards out. But moments later the visitors were stunned when Alex Sandro fired a delightful cross into the path of Mandzukic, who muscled his way past Nicolas Otamendi to finish. City were briefly left with 10 men when Jesus Navas fell under a challenge from Sandro, and Juventus brazenly capitalised. Sighting Stephan Lichtsteiner’s run, Sandro promptly delivered and when the Swiss international headed into the path of Mandzukic, the Croatian’s first-timer brought a great reflex save from Joe Hart. After Toure’s tame shot on the spin went wide of Buffon’s post, at the other end Hart produced another great stop with his arm to thwart Lichtsteiner after he was sent through on the right side by Mandzukic. Juve started the second half brightly but City would go on to scare the hosts on several occasions. Fernando rose high above the Juve defence at a corner to fire in a header which Buffon turned onto the post and then smothered while under pressure from Martin Demichelis. But in open play, Juve were a class apart. Alvaro Morata replaced Mandzukic on 54 minutes and moments later the Spaniard sent a chip towards the far post that Paulo Dybala turned onto the upright. Hart was kept busy for the remainder of the half, before being replaced by Willy Caballero with 10 minutes remaining after suffering a suspected injury. The England ‘keeper kept his composure to stop Morata just inside the area after the Spaniard had dribbled his way past two players and into a scoring position while ignoring Dybala to his left. At the other end Raheem Sterling, who had replaced Sergio Aguero on 69 minutes, came close when his first-time effort from a tight angle spun just wide of Buffon’s far post. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

AC Milan. Sunday. Key words highlighting what seems to be the revival of the team. Juventus are playing solid, mature football again. Funnily enough, last weekend was the first time this season when Bianconeri registered two consecutive wins in Serie A; and things look even better as they continued the good form in Europe as well, securing progress from the group stages with a game still left to play, a feat that hasn’t occurred since 2008. Max Allegri — who not very long ago was being sacked by juventini –— is slowly ordering the chaos, re-establishing the strong personality of Juventus that was so absent recently. As a result, Manchester City were sterile. At least that’s how Juventus made them look like. If the BBC defence trio let anything slip past them, Gianluigi Buffon almost effortlessly did his goalkeeping duties at which he is so good at: first clearing up Claudio Marchisio’s mess by denying Sergio Aguero with his foot and then imperiously diving to his left to parry Fernandinho’s header. A joy to watch the captain leading by example. Although it is hard to admit it, Buffon’s counterpart, Joe Hart, didn’t have a bad game either. If it wasn’t for his quick reactions, the scoreline would have been less merciful towards the Citizens.Trips to Palermo, Lazio and Sevilla are next in the cards for the Old Lady, before Fiorentina visit Juventus Stadium in mid December. The Champions League matter can be relatively put aside until February; building on with positive results (i.e. wins) from this current very favourable situation is primordial for Juventus’ push to get back to the top of the Serie A table. It’s not too much of a hard task, really. Just let Paulo Dybala and co work their magic.MATCH SUMMARYPaulo Dybala was presented with an early chance early in the game after a good long ball played in by Paul Pogba but the Argentine’s first time shot went way off target. City responded three minutes later through Fernandinho but his low shot from outside the area missed the target. The same Fernandinho missed the first big chance of the game in the 15th minute when Giorgio Chiellini failed to effectively clear away a ball and the Brazilian midfielder skyed his effort from close range. A big let off for the Bianconeri.Just two minutes later, Mario Mandzukic opened the scoring for Juventus. Paul Pogba started the action in the centre of the park playing Alex Sandro on the left wing. The former Porto defender delivered an inch-perfect cross in the area and Mandzukic beat Nicolas Otamendi to the ball before finding the net with a fine volley.Joe Hart pulled off a great save just inside the half hour mark to deny Mandzukic a second goal. After a good long ball from Claudio Marchisio, Stephan Lichtsteiner headed it down inside the box for the Croatian marksman whose first-time strike was parried behind for a corner kick. There was little goal action for the remaining of the half, with the bulk of the actions developing on Juventus’ left flank where Alex Sandro had a brilliant display. Lichtsteiner broke free one-on-one with Hart two minutes before the break but the goalkeeper was quick off his line and the Swiss defender couldn’t get a shot on target.Marchisio seemed to have lost his focus for a moment in the 45th minute as his back pass went straight to Sergio Aguero who was lurking outside Juventus’ area. Buffon managed to block the Argentine striker, making sure the Bianconeri head towards the locker rooms with the one-goal advantage.Juventus’ protective angel Buffon was at the heart of the first important action in the second half as he pulled off another astonishing save for what seems to be the hundredth time this season, denying Fernandinho’s close-range header.Having just replaced Mandzukic a minute before, Morata almost doubled Juventus’ lead in the 56th minute. His chipped shot was heading just off target and Stefano Sturaro could only deflect the ball against the left-hand post with an acrobatic effort. In the 67th minute, Chiellini was very well positioned inside the area to block a shot from Aguero, which was bound to cause trouble for Juventus’ goalkeeper. The ball went behind for a corner kick, effectively defended by the Bianconeri.Morata missed a great opportunity with ten minutes left to play. After a great first touch and turn in the centre of the pitch, the Spaniard beat two more defender before pulling the trigger but his shot was eventually blocked by Hart.Juventus were lucky to survive another scare just a minute afterwards. Kevin de Bruyne played a ball across the area and Raheem Sterling beat Leonardo Bonucci to the ball but his shot from five yards was slightly deflected and went off target. The Bianconeri opted to defend the result deep in their own half in the final minutes, creating problems in a couple of occasions on counter attacks. The referee Felix Brych put an end to the game after five minutes of injury time.LE PAGELLEBuffon: 7.5 Little to do in the first half before a magnificent block against Aguero. Nov 26, 2015 Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli was full of praise of his side’s 1-0 win over Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, claiming it will serve as a morale booster. The Bianconeri surged to the top of Group D thanks in large to a sweetly-struck volley from Mario Mandzukic in the 18th minute with the visitors squandering chances late on, whose woes were compounded Joe Hart was replaced due to injury. The win sees Juventus qualify for the knockout stages for the second year in a row, and Barzagli believes it was the team’s aggressive attitude that got them over the line. “It was a tough match against a team with great players. We are happy to progress to the next round,” he told JTV. “I was a very important. The victory will give morale and it will give us that boost to grow and to gain consistent results. Now we are back on track. “In the Champions League you have to attack anyway, these games are played on two fronts. There are going to be players with more quality, but you have to keep up with the pace and go attack. “It was a good game even though we can still improve in possession and in playing the final ball. We played well and we are happy with the result.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 26, 2015 Manchester City visited Juventus Stadium on Wednesday night, losing 1-0 in a match that ensured the hosts qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League. Both sides were hit by injuries, but the Turin giants named a surprising starting XI that eventually proved to be the decisive factor in their victory. The visitors arrived without Wilfried Bony, Vincent Kompany, Eliaquim Mangala, Samir Nasri, David Silva and Pablo Zabaleta, while the Bianconeri lost Kwadwo Asamoah, Martin Caceres, Sami Khedira and Roberto Pereyra. Hernanes was also suspended, but Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri opted for a 3-5-2 formation that saw Juan Cuadrado and Alvaro Morata drop to the bench. City managed just one shot on target over the entire course of the game, meaning Mario Mandzukic’s 18th-minute volley proved to be enough to seal the points.Tarek Khatib @ADP1113 Mario Mandzukic's goal vs. Man City - Alex Sandro's cross was perfect. Yet it was perhaps the creator of that chance for the Croatian striker who delivered the most important performance of the night—Alex Sandro picking out Mandzukic’s run with an excellent ball from deep on the left. Paul Pogba’s initial pass was crucial to the move, but the Brazilian full-back’s assist was the punctuation mark on a fabulous all-round display, one which shows just how significant his arrival is proving to be for the Bianconeri. As the graphic in the tweet below shows, Sandro completed 28 of his 32 pass attempts on Wednesday and succeeded in two of the four take-ons he attempted. His powerful, high-octane runs constantly kept Bacary Sagna and Jesus Navas on the back foot and gave Juventus an outlet as they broke forward.Adam Digby @Adz77 Alex Sandro vs #MCFC: 28/32 passes, 2/4 take-ons, 4 tackles, 5 interceptions, 1 clearance, 1 assist (via @StatsZone) It also highlights that Sandro recovered the ball five times, won all four of his tackles and made five interceptions. His defensive diligence is proving just as important as the impact he has on the Juve attack. Navas and Sagna toiled to no avail on that flank for the English side, with the former Porto man shutting them down almost completely, making one clearance and committing just one foul in his 78 minutes on the field. The player has proved to be an able deputy for Patrice Evra over recent weeks, clearly establishing himself as a viable long-term replacement for the French left-back. Sandro believes there is much more to come too, as the summer signing discussed the game and life with the Bianconeri, per the club’s official website: I’m starting to pick up Italian and the group as the atmosphere in the dressing room is perfect for me to learn and develop. We want to move forward and repeat performances like this in the future. You can feel the positivity in the squad at the moment. Personally, I’m gradually finding my feet here and I hope to continue in the same vein. Having already provided a match-winning assist against Torino and Milan in his two previous outings, the display against Manchester City also prompted his coach to single out the 24-year-old for praise shortly after the full-time whistle. “Alex Sandro did very well this evening and he is an excellent signing,” Allegri told Mediaset Premium (h/t Football Italia). “Players like him need to be allowed to settle in, as nobody is ready to give their best in a new environment straight away.” It appears he has now done just that, with statistics courtesy of WhoScored.com noting he has averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.9 interceptions and 1.2 clearances in his nine appearances thus far. Meanwhile, the above graphic—provided by Squawka.com—highlights just how impressive he has been in challenges, winning a high percentage in each category. Undeniably a major factor in their win over Manchester City on Wednesday, Sandro has already shown he will play an important role for Juventus in the future as he continues to shine for the Old Lady. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 26, 2015 Juventus’ slow start to the 2015-16 campaign has been well documented; the stark comedown in form and league position, from UEFA Champions League runners-up and Serie A winners to bottom-half strugglers has been difficult to choke down. Not long ago, Juan Cuadrado was arguably their only in-form player, with mistakes haunting the defence, a lack of service blunting the strikers and a haphazard approach to midfield play generating a severe turnover deficit. Only Gianluigi Buffon kept it respectable. A three-game domestic win streak, though, has moved the Bianconeri into sixth and just nine points off league leaders Internazionale. In other leagues that would seem a sizable gap, but in Serie A—where inconsistency reigns supreme—it puts the club in a serious title-challenging position. The streak started with a rousing victory over fierce local rivals Torino, developed thanks to a 3-1 dispatching of Empoli and reached three with a tight 1-0 win over Milan, decided by a lovely Paulo Dybala strike. Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City cemented their place in Europe’s latter stages come spring 2016, completing the double over the Premier League side thanks to a solitary, wonderful Mario Mandzukic goal. From the outside looking in, it very much looks as though Massimiliano Allegri has hauled his men back on track. Mandzukic put in a rare good showing, pressing like a mad man, ruffling Nicolas Otamendi’s feathers and providing an option for Alex Sandro’s excellent crosses. Paul Pogba looks to be enjoying himself again and isn’t trying to do everything himself, while Buffon kept to his usual best. But despite the upturn in form and fortunes, Wednesday’s win compounded one very obvious fact: Without Sami Khedira, this team struggles badly. The amount of errors Juve made in midfield was absolutely astonishing; it’s a wonder they won the game and kept a clean sheet, given they were seemingly contriving to give Man City every opportunity to claw their way back into the contest. Pogba’s flashy game was entirely offset by Claudio Marchisio turnovers—mostly in dangerous areas—and those mistakes seeped into the defensive line, too; Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli both lost possession in critical areas and forced team-mates to double back to bail them out. Losing Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal in the same summer is rough, and the Bianconeri have struggled—technically, physically and emotionally—for long stretches without them. Welcoming Stephan Lichtsteiner back into the XI after injury has restored a leadership presence, but it hasn’t completely fixed the issues haunting the side. In recent weeks, the errors have been leading to fouls, which have in turn led to goals. As B/R’s Adam Digby revealed earlier this month, Juve have conceded an average of 16.5 fouls per game (according to WhoScored.com), and Allegri has bemoaned the fact that opposing teams have converted those opportunities into goals, per Football Italia. Against City it was more of the same, with Fernandinho blazing an early chance well over after Giorgio Chiellini had struggled to clear a ball into the box and ended up falling over. Raheem Sterling missed a sitter, too, with Chiellini’s deflection actually taking it closer to the goal than it would have landed if uninhibited. Contrast this haphazard, error-strewn performance with the one that saw off Sevilla 2-0 at the Juventus Stadium in September, and it becomes difficult to believe it’s the same team. That night, Khedira entered the XI following an injury lay-off and shocked even the most ardent of fans with a stellar, controlling display. He’s the difference. A World Cup, Champions League, La Liga and Bundesliga winner, Khedira adds a steely measure of organisation to Juve’s midfield and a trio of he, Marchisio and Pogba is quite clearly the best Allegri can field. True, the manager has rediscovered his own confidence and has begun rotating his formation and XI based on his opponents—restoring the tactical nous that helped them prosper in 2014-15—but this team feels incomplete without Khedira. He doesn’t shuttle forward as much anymore—a torn ACL in 2013 has severely tempered his body’s ability to handle a physical load—but he brings tactical knowledge and a high football IQ to the Bianconeri’s engine room. He oozes confidence and settles those around him; Pogba feels more assured slaloming forward when Khedira is in reserve to mop up any issues, and Marchisio becomes a more box-to-box presence, too. That sort of assurance will eventually seep through the XI if he can sustain a run in the side. It’s jarring to see Bonucci—usually so consistent and decisive in everything he does—committing nervous errors that lead to goals conceded. In a great number of ways, things are looking up for the Turin-based club. We’re seeing less and less of the underwhelming Hernanes, Dybala is getting more time as a starter in response to Alvaro Morata’s disappointing start to the season and Pogba is most certainly rediscovering his groove. Allegri’s tactical tweaks are beginning to work again as he adjusts his setup with confidence—before, he was persisting with the same/similar XIs in blind hope they’d turn the corner—and he could be well on his way to shaking off the unfortunate reputation he’s earned for leading a club into regression in his second season in charge. But Khedira is the key piece, and if his fitness can be managed appropriately, Juventus will continue to surge up the table. At Real Madrid he became something of an afterthought, but we’re talking about a player Joachim Low relied upon at the World Cup 2014 and someone who would have started the final but for a cruel warm-up injury. The reigning Serie A champions and Champions League runners-up have been under the microscope all season for all the wrong reasons, but the dark clouds finally appear to be parting. If Allegri can preserve Khedira, this side will take flight once again. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee: Felix Brych (Germany) Mature Juventus march on A 1-0 victory over Manchester City sealed by Mario Mandzukic saw Juventus advance to the Champions League Round of 16. Luca Cetta praises a mature Bianconeri. http://www.football-italia.net/76286/mature-juventus-march? Nov 26, 2015 It’s a luxury that hadn’t been afforded to Juventus in recent seasons. Despite domestic dominance, results in Europe did not followed suit. Firstly under Antonio Conte and then Massimiliano Allegri, the Bianconeri on three occasions took qualification for the Champions League Round of 16 down to the wire. Only twice they succeeded. You have to go back to 2008-09 for the last time Juve qualified for the knockout phase with something to spare. That was the scenario staring Allegri’s men in the face at Juventus Stadium: beat Manchester City to advance before Matchday 6. After three successive Serie A wins they were starting to show the form of campaigns past. A victory would also take Juventus back above the Sky Blues, after they relinquished top spot in drawing at Borussia Monchengladbach. Much had been made in the build-up of City’s European resurgence after testing seasons in the competition and that first-up loss in September. Yet in doing the double it was the new-look Bianconeri who showcased their ability at this level. Mario Mandzukic once again netted against the English club to put Juventus ahead after 18 minutes – their earliest goal scored this term. It was the perfect start, allowing the Old Lady to control proceedings from that point. Control they did. Juventus stifled Manuel Pellegrini’s team in what was a measured performance. Both Pellegrini and Yaya Toure derided City’s luck in front of goal, although they truly only broke the Bianconeri open once. That came late on as substitute Raheem Sterling missed from close range. It took an errant Claudio Marchisio backpass to give Sergio Aguero an opening, one snuffed out by the commanding Gigi Buffon. Another good chance arrived from a set piece, with Fernando’s header parried on to the post by Buffon. Yet what the pair failed to mention is Juventus had opportunities to extend the lead. They didn’t make the most of their control, or chances. Manduzkic was denied a second by a fine Joe Hart save. A combination of Alvaro Morata and Stefano Sturaro could not do the job, the latter shaving the woodwork. The Spaniard then went on a mazy dribble, only for Hart to keep City in it. Those spurned chances could have been costly had Sterling made the most of his opening and it’s something Allegri will remind his players of. But the Coach can be pleased overall with the performance. And he was. “I am very happy with the performance. The lads did well and it’s not easy to qualify with a game to spare from such a tough group.” Crucial for Juve was a third clean sheet in five European outings. “Keeping a clean sheet was an important element too,” Allegri noted. It led giornalaccio rosa dello Sport to declare ‘Juve to the Max’, as Allegri and his team got it right on an important evening. There were contributors all over the pitch. Like Alex Sandro. The Brazilian whipped in six crosses, including one for the goal. It was his third match-winning assist in as many matches, while he also made five interceptions and four tackles, according to WhoScored.com. In Sandro and Patrice Evra, Allegri has a welcome headache on the left-hand side. Giorgio Chiellini put recent wobbles aside to help shackle the City attack. Leonardo Bonucci utilised his role to perfection, his reading of the game helping to eight clearances and providing an initial attacking outlet. Andrea Barzagli was, as usual, telling without fuss – just look at that Sterling chance, for instance. Marchisio’s error aside, the midfield trio stuck to their tasks diligently and in Paul Pogba had a creative outlet. The Frenchman was important in creating the goal and in driving Juve forward. Nobody covered more ground than the anchoring Marchisio – 11.01km – and Sturaro at 10.74km, who provided the necessary grunt. Now on 11 points, Juventus only need a draw to top Group D when they travel to Sevilla in a fortnight. Compared to recent seasons it is a welcome turn of events for the Bianconeri to have already qualified and be in the box seat to finish first. That can be so important when the draw for the Round of 16 takes place. But Juve have also given others something to think about thanks to another mature performance. http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Nov 26, 2015 Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro describes last night’s win over Manchester City as “a perfect evening”. The Bianconeri sealed their place in the Last 16 of the Champions League with a 1-0 win at Juventus Stadium, and will top the group with a point at Sevilla in two weeks. “After such a good evening there’s a happy atmosphere,” Sturaro told JTV. “In the end, yesterday was a perfect evening, as so often happens here. It’s a victory which boosts morale, so today it’s really good. “The group was very difficult, because all four teams are strong, we’ve seen that, we’ve suffered, but our strength allowed us to qualify. “The Champions League is a fascinating competition, and probably the best. I don’t think there is much need to prepare for matches of this calibre. “I always give my maximum, in every game, whether that’s against Real [Madrid] or a less prestigious team. “Of course, every game can do well or less well, that’s the beauty of football. But I’ll give 100 per cent and even more in every game.” Sturaro could have scored last night, but could only deflect Alvaro Morata’s effort onto the far post, when it had been dropping wide. “I was up there anyway, offering support, and then I saw that Alvaro’s ball was about to go in our out. “I gave everything, but I got there half a second late and I couldn’t put it in the goal.” http://www.goal.com/en/tables/uefa-champions-league/10 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti

Another strong performance from the left-back who is really getting to grips with his role in this Juve team. Pushed forward and pegged back Sagna and his lin-up play with Pogba was beautiful to watch. His third assist in a row shows just why he needs to be starting more often.2. Stefano Sturaro – Bossed and bullied that midfield and did a damn-fine impersonation of a certain Arturo Vidal. Robbed and recycled the ball, had a half chance to score a second for Juve. a very mature performance.3. Another win – Granted, the victories preceding this one may not have been particularly pretty, but they were done with a degree of determination that seemed to be missing from earlier performances. The confidence is growing and the momentum is building. Only 1 defeat in 11 games is pretty damn good considering some were calling for Allegri to be sacked as little as two weeks ago.4. A clean sheet – We’ve managed to keep 7 clean sheets so far this season – Not especially good when you consider how strong our defence was these past 4 seasons but this was our second in a row and a sign that the things are starting to come together.5. Allegri – There were plenty of questions about the choice of formation, the inclusion of Mandzukic over Morata….but it worked, and it worked well. The team looked balanced across the pitch and when substitutions were made in the form of Morata and Cuadrado, they continued to cause City problems. bravo Max! Nov 26, 2015 Juventus went into this penultimate Champions League group knowing that a win would see them into the last 16. It was a cagey start but Juve played the better football early on and took a deserved lead when Alex Sandro floated in a perfect cross for Mario Mandzukic to fire home. Juve continued to miss a host of well created chances while City had opportunities of their own to get back into the game but thankfully the Bianconeri held on for a valuable 3 points.Gigi Buffon 7.0 - Exceptional. Came out off his line to close down Aguero when Marchisio’s back pass was poorly placed. Denied Toure with a truly world-class save and was his usual super-self throughout.Andrea Barzagli 6.5 - Kept things steady at the back with a solid defensive display, marking De Bruyne and making some vital interceptions.Leonardo Bonucci 6.5 - Back to his brilliant best, marking Sergio Aguero and limiting his chances. Superb.Giorgio Chiellini 6.0 - One of his best recent performances, despite some poor passing at the back. Came into the game as it went on and kept Aguero in his pocket for much of the night.Stephan Lichtsteiner 6.0 - Had a great chance to seal the resuly when clean through but was denied by Hart. Tracked back well and kept Navas/De Bruyne quiet throughout the game.Stefano Sturaro 6.5 - An exceptional display from a young player who is maturing more with the big games he plays in. Bossed the midfield and broke down attacks while almost scoring a second goal for Juve.Claudio Marchisio 6.5 - One wayward pass aside, he was at his best, probing the City defence, trying to carve out chances. Tested Hart from distance more than once and kept the midfield ticking over.Paul Pogba 7.0 - One of his best displays in a while, dominating the midfield, covering the pitch and keeping Toure busy. Created a beautiful chance for Dybala and made some great runs into the final third.Alex Sandro 7.0 - Pushed Sagna back and was a constant thorn in the side of City for the whole game. Provided the deftest of crosses for Mandzukic to open the scoring.Mario Mandzukic 6.5 - Another player who turned in a much improved performance. Far more mobile, tracking back when he could, put pressure on the defence and took his goal with a great finish. Nov 26, 2015 Somewhere in Paulo Dybala's Turin home, there is a miniature Sicilian donkey cart. Colourful and elaborately decorated, these trinkets are a popular gift among visitors to the island and this one in particular was one of several souvenirs given to Dybala by Palermo owner Maurizio Zamparini. The most extravagant gift Dybala received was a portrait of him playing for the club. It was still being painted when its subject made his last appearance at the Favorita in May and one imagines him looking at it as he prepares to make an emotional return there with Juventus on Sunday. Zamparini could afford to spoil the 21-year-old. After all, Juventus paid €40m for Dybala. Only one Palermo player has ever fetched more than that figure and that was Javier Pastore, another native of Cordoba; Zamparini must consider the Argentine town a gold mine. While the painting dried, the miniature donkey cart and a new watch would have to do. Zamparini presented Dybala with them on the pitch before his last Palermo game. Taking the microphone, the owner spoke for the supporters in attendance when he said: "We say goodbye to Paulo with great sadness but also great joy." The pair's relationship was -- and remains -- like that between father and son and Zamparini was especially proud that Dybala had got his big move, even if he would have preferred u Picciriddu or "The Kid", as he was affectionately known in Sicilian dialect, to go to Milan. Rossoneri owner Silvio Berlusconi had promised to match Juventus' offer, but Dybala's heart was set on following the other great Argentines who have been leading men for the Old Lady: Omar Sivori and Carlos Tevez. Picciri Grazie read one banner at the Favorita: "Thanks Kid." The Palermo crowd had stuck by Dybala despite initial disappointment that he didn't live up to his club record fee of €12m. Relegated in his first year in Italy, 2012-13, he went 405 days without a goal. Then, towards the end of the season before last as Palermo were returning to the top flight, something clicked. A change of coach to Beppe Iachini, as well as position and strike partner -- Franco Vazquez -- acted like a key and unlocked the potential Zamparini had seen on DVD of a teenager breaking Instituto de Cordoba club records that had been established by 1978 World Cup winner Mario Kempes. "Since the beginning of this season," Zamparini told Sportweek last November, "I've been able to drink two or three coffees for free [at the cafes around Mondello and Palermo]." After throwing his shirt and kicking signed footballs into the Curva Nord following his final home game, Dybala said: "I'll miss everything about Palermo. The people always made me feel at home, it will be impossible to forget my experiences there. Palermo made me become a man." Two weeks later he was a special guest of Juventus at the Champions League final in Berlin. Wrapping up the Serie A title early had allowed them to begin planning for this season and beat the competition to Dybala's signing. A revelation in Serie A, he had got into double figures in goals (13) and assists (10) and had garnered the full attention of Europe's elite. It was a coup for Juventus even if Dybala is the most expensive purchase of the post Calciopoli era. Only current captain Gianluigi Buffon, Lillian Thuram and Pavel Nedved, the Ballon d'Or winner who is now vice-president, cost the club more. But here was a player of immense talent with his entire career still in front of him. Dybala also firmly believed that joining Juventus was exactly the right thing to do for his development. However, that has been a subject of debate since the start of the campaign. Dybala was left out of the starting XI for the Italian Super Cup and even though he came on and scored in that game against Lazio, was again missing at the kickoff of their season opener in Serie A against Udinese. Such an oversight led to Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta receiving texts from Zamparini, who has never stopped looking out for Dybala. Zamparini just couldn't understand why his golden boy was being left out as Juventus made their worst start in decades. Nor could members of the press pack. Nor could sections of Juventus' support. The team was lacking goals and inspiration and yet, more often than not, Dybala was supplying both when he appeared. In August, he got the consolation goal in a defeat to Roma and a month later threatened to inspire a Juventus comeback at Napoli when Mario Lemina pulled one back from his pass. A tipping point arrived after back-to-back goalless draws with Inter and Borussia Monchengladbach in October. Dybala started neither game and the exasperation with Max Allegri reached fever pitch, with La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport speculating that the Juventus coach must be blind to the player's talent. Meanwhile, Zamparini revealed he regretted selling Dybala to Juventus, adding that, in his opinion, they were ruining him and young Paulo should already be considering his future. Allegri didn't feel he had to justify himself to anyone. His track record with blooding youngsters spoke for itself: Radja Nainggolan at Cagliari, Stephan El Shaarawy at Milan and Alvaro Morata at Juventus. In an industry where too much is expected of young players, too soon, Allegri doesn't rush them even amid the pressure to get results and to see an instant return on a club's investment. He feels responsible for them and so nothing was going to change how he handled Dybala's induction. Not Juventus' crisis, nor the price tag. "It's not my problem he cost €40m," Allegri said. For instance, it didn't change the fact that Dybala was still only 21 and had lots to learn. He needed to understand what it means to play for Juventus. He needed to adapt to a new role as a second striker. He needed to add greater maturity to his game. A case in point came in September when Dybala gave the ball away cheaply against Frosinone, who then went up the other end and turn a Juventus win into a draw. He needed to bulk up, too. Against Roma, La Repubblica likened Dybala to "a robin red breast among eagles." When Dybala scored and assisted Mario Mandzukic in his next start against Atalanta at the end of October, Tuttosport's headline declared: "Never again without." There was a touch of "I told you so" about it but what if Dybala played well precisely because Allegri had picked the right moment and opponent for him? The manager continues to use him in doses, albeit bigger ones. Dybala has scored in back-to-back league games -- one as a sub away to Empoli, the other a winner against Milan last weekend. He now has six goals in Serie A. That's the same total as he had at this stage last year, but this season's goals have come in just 781 minutes rather than 1106. Dybala is more efficient; only fellow countryman Gonzalo Higuain has a more rapid goals-per-minute ratio (111) in Serie A than his rate of 130. The average is also better than what Tevez and Alessandro Del Piero achieved in their respective first seasons at Juventus. Dybala has put on three kilograms of muscle in the last four months and is more robust and better able to withstand the physicality of the league's defenders. "Have you seen his thighs?" Allegri said on Sky Italia. All of this is small vindication to the Juventus boss and the same goes for the club's other big summer signing, Alex Sandro, the left-back who was bought from Porto for €26m. His integration has been gradual but, in the last month, he has produced a series of big moments, most notably assists for Juan Cuadrado's stoppage time winner in the Turin derby, as well as for Dybala's clincher against Milan and Mandzukic's winner in Wednesday's game against Manchester City. Both players are beginning to pay back the €66m Juventus invested in them and the team is now on a run. Through to the knockout stages of the Champions League with a game to spare, the Old Lady can now concentrate on the league for a few months. Sunday's visit to Sicily is another chance to make up more ground in title race but, for Dybala, it will also be a second homecoming of genuine sentimental significance. Call it "The Return of the Kid". http://www.goal.com/en-gb/tables/serie-a/13?ICID=SP_TN_127 Condividi questo messaggio Link di questo messaggio Condividi su altri siti
