Betting Preview: Lazio v Juventus

With Stefano Pioli's men in rotten form, Al Hain-Cole expects the Serie A champions
to continue their renaissance against a team that has rarely caused them recent problems.

Juventus will be looking to continue their resurgent form when they travel to the Stadio Olimpico to take on Lazio on Friday.

After a slow start to the season, Massimiliano Allegri’s men have now won four consecutive games in the league, and are available at with bet365 to make it five in a row here.

In contrast, the Biancocelesti have lost four and won none of their previous five in the league, and are outsiders to arrest that malaise with a victory against the champions.

The hosts were held to a 1-1 draw by Palermo in their last game on home soil, and you can get odds of on them claiming a single point yet again this time.

Having bid farewell to Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez in the summer, the Bianconeri's start of just one win in six Serie A games this season looked ominous.

Without those players most instrumental in winning the domestic double and reaching the Champions League final last term, the new-look team seemed set to meekly surrender their title after four consecutive Scudettos.

However, Allegri's side have recovered admirably from that setback, and come into this game with five wins and one draw under their belt in the previous six matches in all competitions.

Big victories over Milan and Manchester City before an emphatic 3-0 away triumph against Palermo in the last three fixtures should see the visitors arrive in the capital in particularly high spirits to take on a deflated home team.

Considering they have collected just a single point from the last available 15, Stefano Pioli's men look set for a long afternoon against a team they have not beaten in the league since December 2003.

Having won 15 and drawn six of the last 21 league encounters between the teams, those odds certainly look appealing on Juventus extending their fine form with another victory here.

Lazio v Juventus: Preview

Dec 3, 2015

Juventus cannot even start to consider mounting a title defence until they have broken back into the top four, insists head coach Massimiliano Allegri.

The reigning champions suffered back-to-back defeats at the start of the Serie A season, a ruinous setback they have only just begun to recover from.

Four straight wins have boosted them into fifth place, and the Bianconeri can draw level with Roma in fourth should they beat Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday night.

Allegri has moved quickly to dampen enthusiasm, however, stressing the fact Juve still have plenty of work to do to make up for lost time.

He told a pre-match press conference: ``We have not achieved anything yet. It's true that we've won four in a row but our journey has only just began.

``Thinking otherwise could cause our level of intensity to drop and that must not be allowed to happen.

``We must focus on small goals and the first of those is reaching fourth place. Our overall objective must be to win a certain number of points by the end of the season.

``If you have 80 or more then you can win the title... between 72 and 80 you'll be second or third.

``It's a race against the clock and we need to sprint all the way to the finish line. It's now obvious to us that the margin of error - when it comes to winning the Scudetto - has thinned.''

French midfielder Paul Pogba is suspended, with Allegri likely to field Kwadwo Asamoah in his place. Lazio, meanwhile, are missing the injured trio of Stefan de Vrij, Stefano Mauri and Ogenyi Onazi.

Midfielder Senad Lulic suffered a gruesome injury in the Biancoceleste gym this week but may still be able to line up against Juve.

The Bosnian had to undergo reconstructive surgery on his right hand after several of his fingers were crushed by exercise equipment.

Lazio, who finished third last season, have slumped to 10th in the table after losing four of their last five games.

Pioli: ‘Lazio must believe’

http://www.football-italia.net/76615/pioli-%E2%80%98lazio-must-believe%E2%80%99?

Dec 3, 2015

Coach Stefano Pioli says his Lazio players must “believe” in their ability to beat Juventus tomorrow.

The Biancocelesti haven’t won in Serie A since October 25, and welcome the champions to Stadio Olimpico tomorrow night.

“We have two options,” Pioli informed journalists in his pre-match Press conference.

“We can go onto the pitch trying not to lose, not to make mistakes and aiming not to concede.

“Or, we can believe that we can play our game and that we have the qualities to attack and defend. We have only once choice, we have to believe.

“The opponent is not that important, we can’t waste any time in picking up a result. That means we’ll have to put in a great performance.

“We’re facing a great team, but I’m not interested in the past. Every game is a story in itself, I’m looking at tomorrow night and we need a positive result.”

Pioli was then asked whether he would tinker with his line-up in order to counter specific threats from the Bianconeri.

“Juve have players with diverse characteristics, but so do we. I don’t think [Juventus Coach Max] Allegri knows who I’ll play, I have two more training sessions, I have to evaluate things.

“The players understand how to approach the game, now we must put that out on the pitch.”

Lazio V Juventus – Preview: Bianconeri Look
To Continue Their March Back To The Top

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/12/lazio-v-juventus-preview-bianconeri-look-to-continue-their-march-back-to-the-top/?

Dec 3, 2015

Lazio host Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A on Friday night, with the two sides heading into the fixture in contrasting form.

The Biancocelesti have really struggled of late in Serie A and have gone five games without a win, with speculation over the future of coach Stefano Pioli rife after a difficult start to the season.

Le Aquile currently lie in 10th position in the standings on 19 points after round 14. Pioli’s side have failed to win their last two home fixtures but did record victories in their first five fixtures at the Stadio Olimpico. A 3-0 win over Torino in late October was the last of those five consecutive wins in Rome, with that victory being their only one against a side that currently sit above them in the table.

The Old Lady, meanwhile, have won four out of their last five fixtures in Serie A and are enjoying their best spell of the campaign to date.

The Bianconeri sit in fifth in the table on 24 points after 14 games. Massimiliano Allegri’s men recorded their third win on the road last weekend with a 3-0 victory over Palermo in Sicily, and that victory was their second consecutive away from Turin after defeating Empoli 3-1 at the start of November.

The Turin giants won both fixtures between the sides last season, winning 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in November and 2-0 at the Juventus Stadium in April. Juventus also beat Lazio in the Coppa Italia final at the Stadio Olimpico in May with Alessandro Matri scoring the winning goal in extra time. The sides did meet in August in the Supercoppa Italiana, with the Old Lady winning 2-0 thanks to goals from new signing Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala.

You have to go back to December 2003 for the last time the Romans beat Juve in Serie A, with the Old Lady winning 15 of the past 21 games between the teams since then.

The Biancocelesti will be without wing-back Senad Lulic after the Bosnia international suffered a fractured finger in training on Wednesday, while midfielders Stefano Mauri and Ogenyi Onazi are ruled out until the end of the month.

French midfielder Paul Pogba will miss the game through suspension for the Turin side, while Sami Khedira and Mario Lemina face late fitness tests.

Form Guide: Lazio (W-L-D-W-L) Juventus (D-W-W-W-W)

Expected Starting XI’s:

Lazio:

Marchetti; Basta, Gentiletti, Mauricio, Radu; Biglia, Parolo; Candreva, Milinkovic-Savic, Felipe Anderson; Djordjevic

Juventus:

Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Sturaro, Marchisio, Lemina, Alex Sandro; Mandzukic Dybala.

Khedira misses Lazio

http://www.football-italia.net/76617/khedira-misses-lazio?

Dec 3, 2015

Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira has not been included in the squad to face Lazio tomorrow.

The Bianconeri are suffering something of a crisis in midfield, with Paul Pogba suspended and a raft of injuries.

It was hoped that the German international would be fit to return from a calf problem for tomorrow’s match, but Khedira has not been included in Coach Massimiliano Allegri’s 21-man squad.

However, Mario Lemina and Kwadwo Asamoah have both been deemed fit enough to make the squad, meaning that the midfield may not be as threadbare as first feared.

Juventus squad to face Lazio:

Buffon, Chiellini, Zaza, Marchisio, Morata, Alex Sandro, Barzagli, Cuadrado, Mandzukic, Lemina, Bonucci, Padoin, Dybala, Asamoah, Rugani, Neto, Lichtsteiner, Sturaro, Evra, Rubinho, Vitale.

LAZIO V JUVENTUS MATCH PREVIEW

http://www.juvefc.com/lazio-v-juventus-match-preview-and-scouting/?

Dec 3, 2015

juventus.pngJuventus

Thanks to the win in Palermo and the results of the other competitors, the gap from the top of the table is seven points. Juventus come off four consecutive wins: the comeback is officially on and there is a lot of time left. At this point, Napoli and Inter, which squared off in a very enjoyable Monday night match, are the most credible rivals, while Roma seem to have been affected by the Camp Nou blowout. However, things are fluid and rapidly changing, it is early to start worrying about the others’ performances, at least until there is not a breakaway from the leading pack.

The level of play by bianconeri is steadily improving: the Palermo game was very encouraging, even though it would have better to find the first goal earlier, but that is nitpicking. It was a very mature showing that indicates that the team has acquired enough confidence to manage games properly. The newcomers are getting more and more familiar with each others and with the veterans and the squad simply works better. The defensive phase was once again extremely good: this is not surprising considering that we were using 3-5-2, but it was not a given, especially if we look back at the first games of the season, where we struggled no matter the tactics. The main thing we have learnt from the last two games is that the formation is not really that important, we can play well with any of them.

Replacing Paul Pogba, who is suspended, is the main task for Massimiliano Allegri ahead of this match. It gets particular hard because of the paucity of midfielders at disposal: Sami Khedira will not be rushed back, Roberto Pereyra aggravated his hamstring injury and Hernanes is a couple of weeks away from returning. Kwadwo Asamoah and Mario Lemina are dealing with knee soreness but they have resumed training with the rest of the group. Asamoah has one more full practice under his belt, therefore he is the favourite to start, also because the coach stated last week that Lemina needs to be better in training. Allegri has ruled out the possibility of deploying 4-4-2, but he has opened to fielding Juan Cuadrado or Alex Sandro as box-to-box midfielders, if need be. We might see this solution tomorrow night if Asamoah and Lemina can not go or most likely as in-game adjustment. Simone Padoin is be the very last option, I guess.

3-5-2 should be the choice once again, with the usual doubts: on the flanks and in the attack. Allegri is not necessarily methodical in his rotation, but after fielding Juan Cuadrado and Patrice Evra on Sunday, Stephen Lichteiner and Alex Sandro should get the nod in this one. However, considering that Lazio’s forte is their wing game, a defense-first approach with both Lichtsteiner and Evra is possible. Upfront, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic are the frontrunners: in this moment, Allegri seems to be in love with Mario’s work rate and form and Dybala’s movement and skills, so Alvaro Morata will need to pick up his game to re-gain the starting job.

Juventus have won eight of the last ten games against Lazio.

Probable lineup 3-5-2:

Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Sturaro, Marchisio, Asamoah, Alex Sandro; Dybala, Mandzukic.

Injuries:

Khedira (hamstring), Pereyra (hamstring), Hernanes (hamstring).

Suspended:

Pogba.

Lazio’s decline has been fast and surprising: they have collected only one point in the last five matches. They have always been poor on the road, they have beaten only the struggling Hellas Verona, but they compensated with an excellent home record. However, things snowballed in the last month and they dropped points twice in a row at Olimpico: first they were badly outplayed by Milan and then they salvaged a point against Torino. Dark clouds are gathering over Stefano Pioli’s head and further poor results could get him sacked.

It is hard to explain what went wrong. Surely losing Stefan De Vrij basically for the season was extremely hurtful as they do not have any other defensive leader in the roster. Half of the squad has been injured at some point and some players, primarily Antonio Candreva and Lucas Biglia, have underperformed. Still, they have so much talent that they should be overwhelmingly good in the attack and outscoring opponents should their calling card, but for some reasons they have never managed to get there.

Besides De Vrij, they will be without Senad Lulic who just underwent surgery to try to save a phalanx after and weight room accident, and Edy Onazi who is out with a hamstring ailment. Stefano Mauri has resumed practicing in a limited capacity after a small hernia procedure, anyway he does not have a big role in this year’s Lazio, and Dusan Basta has muscle fatigue: both are considered questionable for this game.

Pioli has used 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3, which are not particularly different because in the first option Sergej Milinkovic-Savic acts as advanced midfielder, mostly as a tactical weapon because he is built like a defensive stopper and is not very creative. He has some talent and a decent shooting range but his ideal role is probably in the midfield. 4-2-3-1 remains a strong possibility for this one, but they have recently tried, with mixed results, a third formation, the oldest of them all: 4-4-2 as their three strikers are finally healthy at the same time. They like to have Miroslav Klose, who has lost a couple of steps and some of his in-the-box prowess but still has great vision, as offensive playmaker alongside another forward. If 4-4-2 indeed ends up being the choice, Alessandro Matri has a slight edge over Filip Djordjevic. None of their wingers, which is the most exciting part of their roster, has been incredibly effective and therefore “undroppable”: Antonio Candreva and Felipe Anderson have started most of the games, but Keita Baldé and especially Ricardo Kishna have a strong chance to start.

Stefan Radu will replace Lulic as left back, while Abdoulay Konko would take Basta’s spot if the Serbian was not available. Santiago Gentiletti returns from a suspension and he is their most reliable option in the back. Mauricio has been bad but they prefer to have him instead of the unexperienced, but definitely more talented, Wesley Hoedt in big matches. Marco Parolo will flank Biglia in the midfield.

Probable lineup 4-4-2:

Marchetti; Basta, Mauricio, Gentiletti, Radu; Candreva, Biglia, Parolo, Felipe Anderson; Matri, Klose.

Injuries:

De Vrij (knee), Lulic (hand), Onazi (hamstring).

Suspended:

None

Lazio - Juventus Preview:
Marchisio warns of wounded hosts

The midfielder has warned that the home side will be keen to end
their wretched recent run in Serie A against the reigning champions.

Dec 3, 2015

Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio is wary of a backlash from struggling Lazio when Massimiliano Allegri's team travel to the Stadio Olimpico on Friday.

Since losing 1-0 at Sassuolo at the end of October, Juventus have won five matches in a six-game unbeaten run across all competitions.

The return to form has helped the defending champions claw their way back up the Serie A table to fifth, seven points shy of Napoli, who replaced Inter at the summit with a 2-1 win over Roberto Mancini's side on Monday.

Lazio are only five points worse off in 10th, but their form has collapsed over recent weeks.

Europa League wins over Rosenborg and Dnipro have disguised an alarming slide which has seen Lazio collect one point from their past five matches in the league.

"When a team goes through difficult moments, they will try to bounce back in a big game," Marchisio told Sky Italia.

"But we are preparing well, we are confident."

Marchisio has been heartened by Juve's recovery from winning only one of their opening six Serie A games this term and he believes there is further improvement to come, with lifting a fifth successive Scudetto remaining a significant challenge.

"The recovery is not yet complete but the pride and commitment of the last month is perfect," he said.

"We're back and it will be more difficult than in past year to win the title. The departures during the close-season were incredible but the season is long and there are still a lot of matches to go."

Marchisio could be joined in midfield on Friday by Sami Khedira after the Germany international returned to training following a thigh injury, although Paul Pogba is suspended.

Pioli believes his team are not earning just rewards for their performances and has backed his players to turn their fortunes around.

"The results are painful right now, but the performances in recent games are not," he said.

"In this situation a coach has to work, motivate and choose the best way to get out of it. I believe in our work as a team.

"There's a lot of disappointment, the results are negative and the table proves it, but we certainly want to emerge from this delicate moment."

Lazio lost 2-0 to Juventus in the traditional season curtain raiser of the Supercoppa Italiana back in August, with Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala scoring second-half goals.

The Juventus forward duo enter this latest meeting in high spirits – Mandzukic boasting three goals in his previous four matches, while Dybala has six goals and three assists to his name in Serie A this season.

Antonio Candreva is set to start for Lazio after his agent was forced to dismiss speculation that the Italy winger is set for a January move to Inter.

Key Opta stats

- Lazio have not won in Serie A against Juventus since December 2003: since then, there have been 15 wins for the Bianconeri and six draws.

- Juventus have failed to find the net only once over these last 21 games (0-0 in November 2012).

- Alessandro Matri, Juventus’ former player, has scored four goals in Serie A against the Bianconeri, though they all have come before his move to Juventus in January of 2011.

- Stefano Pioli has never beaten Juventus in his managing career: three draws and eight defeats across Serie A, Coppa Italia and Italian Supercup.

Line-ups: Lazio-Juventus

http://www.football-italia.net/76666/line-ups-lazio-juventus?

Dec 4, 2015

Mario Mandzukic again partners Paulo Dybala as Juventus visit Lazio with Ricardo Kishna, Miroslav Klose and Antonio Candreva.

It kicks off at 20.45 CET - 19.45 GMT.

This game was brought forward to Friday evening so Juve can prepare for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Sevilla.

Max Allegri’s men have won four Serie A matches in a row and are back in the running for the top spots despite a disastrous start to the season.

On the other hand, Lazio have one point from five rounds and are deep in crisis with Coach Stefano Pioli under threat.

Mandzukic is again chosen to start alongside Dybala, leaving Alvaro Morata on the bench, but Sami Khedira, Hernanes and Roberto Pereyra are sidelined.

Paul Pogba sits out a one-match ban too, so the options are limited in midfield.

Kwadwo Asamoah makes a rare start after serious injury problems, his first since May, and is preferred to Simone Padoin.

Alex Sandro takes over from Patrice Evra due to impressive form in the 3-5-2 system.

The Aquile haven’t won this Serie A tie since a 2-0 result on December 6 2003.

Lazio miss Stefan De Vrij, Stefano Mauri, Eddy Onazi and Senad Lulic.

Bosnia international Lulic is in hospital after a gym accident partially amputated the end of the ring finger on his right hand.

Miroslav Klose starts for his 150th game in a Lazio jersey, equalling his career tally with Bayern Munich.

However, while the ‘Panzer’ scored 53 goals in that time for Bayern, he is already on 56 with the Italians.

It’s a new 4-2-3-1 system for Stefano Pioli, fanning out Candreva, Kishna and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic behind the centre-forward.

Lazio: Marchetti; Basta, Mauricio, Gentiletti, Radu; Biglia, Parolo; Candreva, Milinkovic-Savic, Kishna; Klose

Lazio bench: Berisha, Guerrieri, Braafheid, Konko, Hoedt, Felipe Anderson, Cataldi, Matri, Keita, Djordjevic

Juventus: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Sturaro, Marchisio, Asamoah, Alex Sandro; Mandzukic, Dybala

Juventus bench: Neto, Rubinho, Rugani, Evra, Padoin, Lemina, Vitale, Cuadrado, Morata, Zaza

Tare: 'Optimistic for Lazio-Juve' .asd

Dec 4, 2015

Lazio director Igli Tare is “optimistic” against Juventus and trusts Stefano Pioli can “emerge from this mini-crisis.”

It kicks off at 20.45 CET - 19.45 GMT.

“I am optimistic for tonight, though it would be wrong to be presumptuous at this moment. The second half of the Empoli game can be a starting point, as we saw the team of last season,” the director of sport told Mediaset Premium.

“Some terrible mistakes were made by the referee and it needs to be said. We need the officials to be more focused and fair.

“We spoke to Pioli for a long time, the table leaves something to be desired, but the Coach has done an excellent job.

“We are trying to emerge from this mini-crisis along with him. I followed the work done during the week and am optimistic. We have to think positive.

“I still believe in the quality of this squad. In recent games you didn’t see the real Lazio and I believe in an important comeback from this team.”

As we've come to see in recent weeks, Paulo Dybala has settled in quite nicely into the Juventus starting lineup. His partnership with Mario Mandzukic is growing as the games go by, confirming that a tall-and-small striker pairing can work wonders when it starts to hit its stride.

That was on display once again to open Juventus' match against Lazio on Friday night.

Dybala's strike from 25 yards out put Juventus up 2-0 over their Roman rivals midway through the first half. And what a lovely hit it was. Thanks to some nice build-up play and pass from Mandzukic, Dybala took a shot on the volley with his left foot and rocketed it past Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti. It was, for all intents and purposes, an incredibly wonderful goal from an incredibly wonderful player.

So, yeah. That potential €40 million price tag that Juventus could be sending Palermo's way ... whatever. Money well spent no matter what the final figure may be. And this goal is just one that reaffirms Beppe Marotta's big-money risk was well, well worth the even bigger reward.

Half-Time 0-2: Juventus in control

Juventus have taken a 2-0 lead into the break in their Serie A clash at the Stadio Olimpico.

The visitors took the lead in the seventh minute when Lazio failed to clear a ball into the box, and Paulo Dybala's strike was turned into his own net by Santiago Gentiletti.

Kwadwo Asamoah had the opportunity to doubled Juve's lead through a bursting run into the box as he broke two challenges before shooting, but his effort slammed into the sidenetting.

Massimiliano Allegri's men doubled their advantage through an impressive strike from Dybala in the 32nd minute when he controlled the ball before drilling his half-volley into the bottom corner from 25 yards out.

The home side attempted to push back into the match, but they were thwarted by resolute defending from Juventus to leave the visitors in command of the contest at half time.

HT 0-2: Dybala golazo stuns Lazio

Paulo Dybala scored a stunning volley and forced a Lazio own goal as Juventus lead 2-0 at the break.

The Aquile were in crisis, picking up one point from five Serie A rounds and missing Stefan De Vrij, Senad Lulic, Eddy Onazi and Stefano Mauri. Juve had won four League games on the trot and gave Kwadwo Asamoah a rare start, as Paul Pogba was suspended with Sami Khedira, Hernanes, Roberto Pereyra and Martin Caceres sidelined.

It was the worst possible start for the hosts, as Alex Sandro’s cross was cut out, but when Paulo Dybala smashed it back across the six-yard box, the ball ricocheted into the net off Santiago Gentiletti’s shin.

Stefan Radu nodded a corner just wide and Mauricio decisively deflected an Asamoah effort from six yards set up by Alex Sandro.

There was a strong period of Lazio pressure with a series of corners and dangerous crosses, including Mauricio’s volley deflected, but Juve were simply more effective in front of goal.

Dybala scored the second out of nowhere with an absolutely sublime finish. He controlled the Mario Mandzukic pass from 25 metres out, flicked it up with his left thigh and smashed it on the volley where it dipped viciously into the near bottom corner.

Stefan Radu risked a straight red when he clattered into Stephan Lichtsteiner with elbow raised, but didn’t make full connection.

Lazio 0-2 Juventus (Half-Time)

Scorers: Gentiletti og 7 (J), Dybala 32 (J)

Lazio: Marchetti; Basta, Mauricio, Gentiletti, Radu; Biglia, Parolo; Candreva, Milinkovic-Savic, Kishna; Klose

Lazio 0-2 Juventus: Dybala
magic seals away win

The Argentine was in majestic form as he first forced an own goal, and then came up
with a stunning volley to seal a fifth straight league win for the improving giants.

Paulo Dybala's brilliant strike confirmed Juventus' renaissance after a tough Serie A start, as the champions vanquished Lazio 2-0 in Rome.

The Argentine had been at the heart of Juve's opener after just seven minutes, when his shot deflected off Santiago Gentiletti and into the defender's own net.

And still in the first half, he teed himself up and struck with a fantastic volley from 20 yards out which doubled the visitors' advantage.

An out of sorts Lazio lacked the attacking strength to pull one back, failing to get a shot on target until the 70th minute, while Juventus seemed happy to defend their lead.

The victory was Massimiliano Allegri's side's fifth consecutive Serie A win as they continue to climb up the table after an underwhelming start to the season.

Lazio, meanwhile, have now gone six matches in a row without victory, losing five of them.

Antonio Candreva crafted the first chance in the fifth minute, the Italy international trying his luck from outside the area after cutting inside from the left, but his shot went just wide.

Juventus went a goal up just two minutes later after some unfortunate defending from Lazio. Mauricio failed to properly clear Alex Sandro's cross from the left, deflecting it straight into the path of Dybala, and the former Palermo star powerfully fired it across the face of goal, with Gentiletti deflecting it into the net.

The home side looked dangerous after a corner kick from the left, with Stefan Radu beating his marker to the ball, only to see his header go harmlessly wide.

Dybala remained Juventus' main threat in the first half and the 22-year-old doubled the visitors' lead in spectacular fashion in the 32nd minute, collecting Mario Mandzukic's pass, juggling the ball onto his left foot and firing beyond Marchetti.
Radu felt he should have been awarded a penalty after a challenge from Andrea Barzagli early in the second half, but referee Luca Banti was having none of it and waved play on.

Dybala could have doubled his personal tally around the hour mark, but Gentiletti did just enough to force the attacker out wide and his shot from a narrow angle went comfortably wide.

Gianluigi Buffon was tested for the first time with 20 minutes to play when Marco Parolo unleashed an opportunistic shot from 30 yards out, but the experienced goalkeeper comfortably saved the free-kick.

Allegri's side are now just four points off the summit ahead of a return to Champions League action when they visit Sevilla on Tuesday.

This fixture is a nightmare for Lazio, who haven’t beaten the Bianconeri here in Serie A since 2003.

He controlled the Mario Mandzukic pass with his right foot from 25 metres out, flicked it up with his left thigh and smashed it on the volley where it dipped viciously into the near bottom corner.

Stefan Radu risked a straight red when he clattered into Stephan Lichtsteiner with elbow raised, but didn’t make full connection.

Lazio made a double substitution at half-time, but it made little real difference and they continued to play with a visible lack of confidence.

Radu had soft penalty appeals after the restart for a coming-together with Andrea Barzagli and Dybala turned wide after good defensive work from Gentiletti.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic hit a fresh-air shot on a smart Felipe Anderson back-heel flick, then fired straight at Gigi Buffon. Marco Parolo’s rocket of a free kick was also smothered by the veteran goalkeeper and Keita Balde Diao drilled at him too.

Claudio Marchisio blasted not far over from distance, but the belief had long evaporated from this troubled Lazio side.

In the final minutes Miroslav Klose sprung the offside trap and his strike was deflected on to the side-netting by a last-ditch Giorgio Chiellini challenge.

Lazio:

Marchetti; Basta, Mauricio, Gentiletti, Radu; Biglia, Parolo; Candreva (Felipe Anderson 46), Milinkovic-Savic (Matri 69), Kishna (Keita 46); Klose

Juventus:

Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Sturaro, Marchisio, Asamoah (Evra 69), Alex Sandro; Mandzukic (Morata 82), Dybala (Cuadrado 80)

Juventus have eased to a 2-0 victory over Lazio in their Serie A clash at the Stadio Olimpico this evening.

The visitors took the lead through an own goal from Santiago Gentiletti as the Lazio defender could only divert Paulo Dybala's strike into his own net.

Juventus almost doubled their advantage when Kwadwo Asamoah raided through into the box, bustling past two challenges, bu he could only send his strike into the sidenetting.

Massimiliano Allegri's men doubled their advantage through when Dybala launched a half-volley at goal from 25 yards and his effort beat the oustretched hand of Federico Marchetti to find the bottom corner.

In the second half, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic raided forward into the final third, but his effort at goal was poor as he failed to test Gianluigi Buffon.

The Italian keeper then made another smart stop to deny Milinkovic-Savic before Balde Keita blasted an effort at goal from 25 yards, only to be denied by another fine save from Buffon.

Miroslav Klose could have brought his side back into the game to set up a tense finale, but his right-footed strike over from close range after connecting with Marco Parolo's cross from the right.

Juventus managed to hold out to secure the three points to move stay fifth in the table, while Stefano Pioli's men remain in 10th place.

LAZIO

22 F. Marchetti - Could have gotten a stronger hand on Dybala's strike, but he instead helped it on its way.

8 D. Basta - Offered no attacking threat and poor defence against crosses.

33 Mauricio - The defender lost a few duels with Mandzukic but also read a few attacks well.

18 S. Gentiletti - Turned Dybala's cross into his own net to open the scoring, and picked up a yellow card not long after for a bad challenge.

26 Ş. Radu - He had a decent game, but it was tainted by an ugly shove on Lichtsteiner.

20 L. Biglia - Some decent passing during Lazio's best sequences, but was unable to find the breakthrough ball when needed.

16 M. Parolo - Ran his socks off to combat the Juve pressing approach and came up with hsi fair share of tackles as well.

87 A. Candreva - One shot after an enterprising dribble was about as good as it got for him.

21 S. Milinković-Savić - Simply could not function in an attacking role as Juve had too many men around him whenever he received the ball.

88 R. Kishna - Only hinted at promise out wide, but all too often, his execution let him down.

11 M. Klose - The striker was starved of service, and buried his one chance into the side netting.

Substitutes

10 Felipe Anderson
- Decent on the ball and looked at ease up front, controlling a few passes nicely.

14 B. Keita - Added some spark to the attack and it's arguable that his introduction should have come earlier.

17 A. Matri - Did nothing off the bench.

JUVENTUS

1 G. Buffon - Easy did it for him today as his handling was sound.

15 A. Barzagli - Continued his return to form alongside the rest of the back three.

19 L. Bonucci - He rarely put a boot out of place when defending against Klose.

3 G. Chiellini - The defender was his typically aggressive self, though one piece of dallying on the ball nearly cost him.

26 S. Lichtsteiner - Embellished on a shove by Radu by clutching his face, but was reliable out on the right.

27 S. Sturaro - Pressed the man on the ball well and never looked rattled.

8 C. Marchisio - The midfielder drive forward when needed in the absence of Pogba, and he was also not absent in defence.

22 K. Asamoah - Continued his return to the first team with a solid performance where his energy was notable.

12 Alex Sandro - His overlapping down the left helped fashion the first goal, and he drew his share of free-kicks.

17 M. Mandžukić - Set up the opener for Dybala and was a great outlet holding the ball up in attack.

21 Paulo Dybala - The matchwinner once again for Juventus, forcing the own goal with a powerful strike, before sliding in a lovely volley to double the lead for good.

Substitutes

33 P. Evra
- Did his job after coming on.

16 J. Cuadrado - Didn't get too many opportunities to run at the defence.

9 Álvaro Morata - Struggled to register as an attacking threat.

Juventus ease past Lazio with help
of classy Paulo Dybala volley

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/italian-serie-a/match/432123/lazio-juventus/report?

Dec 4, 2015

Paulo Dybala was the difference as Juventus extended their winning streak to five Serie A games with a 2-0 triumph at Lazio on Friday night.

Dybala's fierce cross forced the opening goal, with Santiago Gentiletti putting it into his own net after seven minutes, and then he struck a spectacular volley from distance to complete the scoring before the interval.

The win moves Massimiliano Allegri's side level on points with fourth-placed Roma and leaves them just four points off leaders Napoli, who play on Sunday.

Juventus, who are aiming to win a record-equalling fifth successive scudetto, arrived at the Stadio Olimpico riding a resurgent wave after a slow start to the 2015-16 campaign.

Despite missing the considerable talents of Paul Pogba, who was suspended, they made a confident start and took the lead after just seven minutes.

It was more about good luck than anything else though, with Gentiletti unwittingly putting the ball into his own net after Dybala's fizzed low cross hit his trailing leg and wrong-footed Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

Alex Sandro was a constant threat down the left for Juve and he almost compounded Lazio's woes by setting up a second after 20 minutes.

His delayed ball into the box unleashed Kwadwo Asamoah into space, but as the Ghanaian pulled the trigger Lazio centre back Mauricio threw himself in the way to give the hosts a reprieve - for 12 minutes at least.

Dybala's class was only matched by Lazio's lacklustre defending as he got Juventus' second goal after 32 minutes. The Argentinian was given enough space to flick it up off the ground, bounce it off his knee and fire an inch-perfect volley past a despairing Marchetti from 25 yards.

Lazio, who lost midfielder Senad Lulic to an accident that left him needing hand surgery this week, continued to toil after the break and always looked like slipping to a fifth defeat in six games.

Chances proved elusive, despite having plenty of possession, and they only started asking questions around the hour mark.

Marco Parolo came closest, trying to catch out Gianluigi Buffon at his near post from a free-kick on the edge of the area in the 69th minute.

With the ball skidding off the greasy surface for a moment it looked like causing a problem, but Buffon adjusted well to gather cleanly.

Miroslav Klose was left feeding off scraps late on as Lazio scrambled for a way back into it, but it was not to be and they remain 10th in the table, although they are unlikely to finish the weekend there.

Lazio 0-2 Juventus: Exisquite Dybala
Helps Juventus To Comfortable Win

Lazio lost 2-0 to Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday night, as the The Old Lady moved just four points of first place in Serie A.

The Bianconeri opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Paulo Dybala’s shot was deflected into the net by Santiago Gentiletti. Massimiliano Allegri’s side were in control in the first-half and they added a second in the 32nd minute through Dybala. The Biancocelesti controlled the second-half but couldn’t find a way back into the game.

Juventus made a lightning start to the match and scored with their first chance. Alex Sandro delivered a solid cross which was poorly cleared by defender Mauricio. The ball fell to the in-form Dybala, whose fierce but wayward shot, was driven into the net by centre-back Gentiletti.

The Old Lady almost added to their lead in the 20th minute. Alex Sandro won the ball off Mauricio, before slipping in Kwadwo Asamoah, but Ghanian’s effort was deflected out for a corner by the recovering Mauricio.

Despite not dominating possession, Juventus were in cruise control and they extended their lead in 32nd minute.

Dybala, who was running the game, received a pass from Mario Mandzukic on the edge of the box, before the Argentinian audaciously flicked the ball up in the air and volleyed the ball past Federico Marchetti.

It was a truly beautiful strike which the Biancocelesti failed to respond to before half-time.

Unlike the first-half, the second half’s first 20 minutes was rather eventless as Lazio’s slow and dull play, failed to unlock the Bianconeri’s experienced defence.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic provided the Aquile’s first shot on target in the match, as he fired from 25 yards out, but his effort was straight at Gianluigi Buffon.

The Aquile were increasing the pressure and forced Buffon into a smart save when Miroslav Klose knocked the ball down Keita Balde, but his wicked shot lacked the placement needed to beat Buffon.

Lazio failed to create another chance of note as Juventus saw out the win in confident fashion.

Buffon: 'Still not enough'

dvdd5.jpg

Dec 4, 2015

Gigi Buffon warned Juventus “cannot fly too close to the sun” after five straight Serie A wins. “It’s not enough.”

The Bianconeri flattened Lazio 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico with a Santiago Gentiletti own goal and Paulo Dybala scorcher.

“We are still fourth or fifth despite this excellent moment of form, so it’s not enough,” the captain told Mediaset Premium.

Juve are now on a par with Roma, who face a tricky trip to Torino tomorrow.

“We mustn’t think of what the other teams are doing, just focus on our own journey that is going well, but we still have to realise we dropped too many points at the start.

“We cannot fly too close to the sun, nor afford any setbacks.”

This was also the third clean sheet on the bounce for the Old Lady.

“The credit for the defensive solidity is down to the forwards too, as they work their socks off when tracking back and that is an important sign for the rest of the team,” concluded Buffon.

Juventus 2 - Lazio 0: Initial
reaction and random observations

Welcome to the Paulo Dybala Show. Everybody's invited.

2cxib1e.jpg

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/12/4/9851304/juventus-lazio-2015-serie-a-round-15-final-score-result-initial-reaction

Dec 4, 2015

With two ferocious strikes, Paulo Dybala single-handedly silenced those in the Stadio Olimpico crowd who were donned in sky blue and white.

That's the kind of night it was for Juventus' new star striker. At the tender age of 22, Dybala is now the leader of Juve's new-look strikeforce. That lofty price tag that was agreed upon with Palermo over the summer, that's looking like money incredibly well spent at this point. He's the future of Juve's attack, but also proving to be so important in the present.

It's the movement. It's the creativity. It's the goals. It's the assists. Dybala is the total package when it comes to a striker. And as we're seeing now, the young Argentine is just getting better by the week, with his impact growing exponentially as the games go by. His first shot — one that had so much velocity behind it — deflected off Lazio defender Santiago Gentiletti for what is officially an owl goal and gave Juventus the lead.

Then, midway through the first half, that goal to put Juve up 2-0. Oh, what a pretty, pretty, pretty goal that was.

Did I mention he's only 22? Because he is.

Even in a game where Lazio had the far and wide advantage in possession, Juventus' opponents could hardly do anything with it. Was it caused by Juve taking a 1-0 lead so early, leaving Lazio shellshocked in the process? Maybe. It's not like Lazio are flying high and full of confidence at the moment with all of their struggles in the last six games. But even with a healthy advantage in possession, Gigi Buffon was essentially just standing there and barking orders to his teammates for most of the game. Only a few second-half saves to be made. That's it.

Instead of many a typical Juventus strugglefest at the Olimpico, Juve stormed right on through the Italian capital and pulled even with Roma in the standings once the final whistle sounded. I like those kinds of games.

It's safe to say that when that second goal went in past Federico Marchetti, the only people you could hear were Juventus tifosi screaming at the top of the lungs. That's what Paulo Dybala did on Friday night. Not bad, kid.

Random thoughts and observations

Juventus is fun to watch again. What a fantastic development that is.

Juventus has four clean sheets in their last five games. What a fantastic development that is.

Kwadwo Asamoah got the start as a midfielder and played nearly 70 minutes. What a fantastic development that is.

Alex Sandro, once again, played a pivotal role in a Juventus goal.I said it after the Manchester City game and I will repeat it again: Sandro is pushing the issue when it comes to getting more playing time. And if he continues to play like he is right now, Max Allegri will have a lot more decisions to make.

Speaking of Allegri here are the three players he subbed on in the second half: Patrice Evra, Álvaro Morata and Juan Cuadrado. That's not just a third of his starting lineup from the opening couple of months this season, but also a sign of just how good and deep Juve's bench is.

In case opposing teams still don't know by now, directing your shots on goal right at Buffon probably isn't the best way to beat the best in the world. All of Buffon's second-half saves were basically right down the pipe, with the veteran goalkeeper barely having to move to make the save. Just another day for Buffon where he gets another much deserved shutout in what was his 400th Juventus appearance in Serie A.

Do you dare break up the Dybala-Mandzukic partnership against Sevilla on Tuesday night? The top spot in the group is still on the line, so it's not like squad rotation is really in the cards because of the fact there's still something to play for. I guess playing Alex Sandro isn't the only decision Allegri has to make in the next couple of days.

Juventus' defense eased off the gas a little bit in the last 20 or 25 minutes, but how good was Giorgio Chiellini in that game? That was a classic, take-no-prisoners kind of game from King Kong.

Paulo Dybala is really, really good. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

Lippi won't comment on Lazio

Marcello Lippi fuelled reports he’ll replace Stefano Pioli at Lazio, as he was in the stands for the 2-0 defeat to Juventus.

The former Italy manager sat only a few seats away from Biancocelesti President Claudio Lotito at the Stadio Olimpico.

He was asked about the rumours by lalaziosiamonoi.it correspondents.

“I don’t think it’s right to comment, out of respect for my colleagues.”

Lippi confessed he had been on the verge of joining Lazio in 2012, but had already given his word to Guangzhou Evergrande.

The fact remains Pioli is at risk after scraping one point from the last six Serie A rounds.

Fans either abandoned the Olimpico or jeered their own players and President during the 2-0 defeat to Juventus.

Captain Lucas Biglia was spotted in tears at the final whistle.

Player Ratings: Lazio 0-2 Juventus

Dec 4, 2015

Juventus beat Lazio 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in Serie A on Friday night, meaning they hold on to their fifth place in the league table, while Lazio are 10th.

A misfortunate Santiago Gentiletti own goal with a Paulo Dybala assist put them 1-0 up, before Dybala once again produced the goods with a perfectly executed volley from range.

Lazio

Federico Marchetti – 6 – Unlucky - The Italian keeper had an unlucky night in goal after going behind through an own goal which he couldn’t do much about before being forced to try his best but inevitably fail once the Dybala stunner came towards him for the second.

Dusan Basta – 6 – Quiet - Despite the heavy attack that the opposing side produced, Basta did little in defence to contribute to his own side’s success.

Mauricio – 5.5 – Boiling point - The 27-year-old perhaps let his temper get the better of him as he received a yellow card soon before the break and had to walk on thin ice for the rest of the game, sometimes running the possible risk of getting another.

Santiago Gentiletti – 6 – Luckless - The Argentine was hugely unfortunate to let the opening goal go in and, from there, there was not really any way back for his side, but he shouldn’t be blamed for the loss as he put in a good and dedicated shift for the rest of the game.

Stefan Radu – 6 – Thankful - Radu nearly had his own share of the Lazio misfortune when he brought down Stephan Lichtsteiner with the Swiss international’s acting almost resulting in a red card for him, but the referee saw behind this and, on second viewing, it was the right decision to only give him a yellow.

Lucas Biglia – 5.5 – Lack of authority - One of the home side’s main men provided threats from dead-ball situations, but was otherwise disappointing in giving his side a boost during the match.

Marco Parolo – 6 – Strong - The Italian international showed no signs of weakness when under pressure and also managed to pull off a bit of skill with a back-heel assist for a shot.

Antonio Candreva – 6 – Injured - A little unfortunate to be taken off after 45 minutes due to picking up a knock, the Italian international looked promising for the opening 20 minutes before the injury, producing a couple of good shots.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic – 6.5 – Infrequent - The 20-year-old wasn’t really in the match until the hour mark and he was taken off about 10 minutes later, but in that gap of time he completely mis-kicked a shot before executing a good, surprise effort which made sure Gianluigi Buffon was still awake.

Ricardo Kishna – 5 – Disappointing - The Dutchman’s best part of the first-half before he was taken off was a well executed free-kick, otherwise his attempts up front were mediocre and his attempts when going back to defend were fairly poor.

Miroslav Klose – 6.5 – Oppressive - The Germany international seemed to be one of the most, if not the most, eager players on the pitch in a light blue shirt with his continuos pressure on the Juventus defence when they were passing it around their penalty area.

Substitutions

Felipe Anderson – 6 – Not bothered
- The promising player showed the other side to his game, with very few moments of positivity and more moments of a lack of determination in the match, meaning it was an overall poor performance.

Keita Balde – 6 – Unproductive - Another young starlet within the Lazio side, Balde brought a bit of pace and energy to the side once he came on but that was about it for the period of time he was on the field.

Alessandro Matri – N/A

Juventus

Gianluigi Buffon – 6 – Observer - The captain didn’t really have to turn up to the Stadio Olimpico, as the first time he was properly tested was on 63 minutes and he was only called upon a few more time after that, although the saves he did make were clean and positive.

Andrea Barzagli – 6 – Detached - The Italian international, given the context of the game, didn’t need to be relied upon much and his only participation in the match was a couple of passes with his keeper and teammates in defence.

Leonardo Bonucci – 6 – Standard - Similar to Barzagli, Bonucci had little to do in the Juve defence, although once Lazio began to attack he marked his man well and helped clear the ball.

Giorgio Chiellini – 6 – Experienced - The experienced defender showed his knowledge of the game once the visitors went 2-0 up once he was in the wars, but he must also be commended for his success in defence when needed as well.

Stephan Lichtsteiner – 6 – Overacting - The Swiss international was fairly lucky not to get a yellow card for simulation when he was tackled by Radu as he rolled around holding his face despite being hit in the shoulder.

Stefano Sturaro – 6.5 – Useful - The 22-year-old midfielder took part in his team’s attacks but let everyone else provided the key assisted and through balls, but his part cannot be undermined nonetheless.

Claudio Marchisio – 6 – Ordinary - The Italian didn’t play his usual commanding performance, although he didn’t have to once Juve were 1-0 up, but his roles in dead-ball situations certainly helped threaten Marchetti in the Lazio goal.

Kwadwo Asamoah – 6 – Successful - Filling in for Paul Pogba in the match, the Ghanaian international didn’t do anything particularly special or similar to the glimpses of gold Pogba can produce, but he did his job well in the middle of the field.

Alex Sandro – 7 – Full package - The 24-year-old showed great strength and versatility in the match, shrugging off pressure from the Biancocelesti when he was running up the left wing, while also tracking back to provide an extra man in defence when needed.

Mario Mandzukic – 7 – Winner - The Croatian international had a fairly successful game before he came off, being a threatening presence in attack while also coming first in many battles in the air as well as on the ground in order to gain possession of the ball.

Paulo Dybala – 8 – Headliner - The Argentine international came off with 10 minutes to play and deserved the standing ovation he received for his fantasitc performance in the match, showing awareness in the box for his first of two goals with the second coming from sublime skill outside the area.

Substitutions

Patrice Evra – 6 – Protector
- The Frenchman came on after 70 minutes with the aim to preserve the two-goal lead his team had, and as the scoreline shows this was completed and he did well to not let fatigue find its way into the Bianconeri defence.

Juan Cuadrado – N/A

Alvaro Morata – N/A

Allegri: 'Keep momentum going'

lw3s3.jpg

http://www.football-italia.net/76676/allegri-keep-momentum-going?

Dec 4, 2015

Max Allegri urged Juventus to “keep the momentum and enthusiasm going” after continuing their Serie A comeback against Lazio.

Paulo Dybala scored a stunning solo effort and forced Santiago Gentiletti into an own goal in the comfortable 2-0 victory.

“It was a difficult game, as Lazio have some very talented forwards. It’s a good moment of form and we have to grit our teeth to keep going,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“In the first half Lazio put us under pressure and we made a few too many mistakes. Some fatigue also set in, as it has been an intense run of fixtures for us and will last all the way up to the Christmas break.

“Today was Kwadwo Asamoah’s first start of the season and I am very happy with his performance. He’s got great technique and passing ability. He deserved this night after so many injury problems. He’s out of the Champions League squad, so can rest for 10 days to be ready against Fiorentina.

“Mario Mandzukic and Dybala did well, but Juan Cuadrado and Alvaro Morata also made an immediate impact coming off the bench. We’ll need everyone this season and it pains me to make certain decisions, but I am only allowed to start 11 players and one of them is a goalkeeper.

“The time will come when Morata and Simone Zaza start with Mandzukic and Dybala on the bench.

“Dybala scored a great goal and is improving in that role, proving all his quality. Mandzukic did a lot of the dirty work and contributed to both goals. We’re coming off a positive period of form, but we have to keep the enthusiasm and momentum going.”

This was the Bianconeri’s fifth consecutive Serie A victory and put them level with Roma, although the Giallorossi play Torino tomorrow.

“We’ve got to hold out until the end of December and remain concentrated. I don’t care who is ahead of us in the table, the fact remains if we don’t get a certain number of points, we’re out of the running.”

The Lazio game was brought forward to Friday night so Juventus could better prepare for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Sevilla.

A victory there will secure top spot in the group, as they’ve already booked their place in the next round along with Manchester City.

Allegri was also asked about the reports this week he’s in line for the Manchester United job next season.

“I have a contract with Juventus until 2017 and I am happy here.”

Pioli: 'Lazio problem psychological'

oscuvm.jpg

http://www.football-italia.net/76677/pioli-lazio-problem-psychological?

Dec 4, 2015

Stefano Pioli admits Lazio’s problems are “psychological” after defeat to Juventus. “We’re knocked down and can’t get back up.”

They now have one point from the last six Serie A rounds and were beaten 2-0 at home by a Santiago Gentiletti own goal and Paulo Dybala moment of magic.

“Playing the first five minutes well doesn’t do much good. The moment they got into our half, Juventus scored,” shrugged the Coach on Mediaset Premium.

“After that we were too predictable and left open spaces for Juve to break into. We were knocked down and couldn’t get back on our feet.

“It’s inevitable considering these results that we are losing confidence. Just as victories fire you up, negative results bring you down.

“Now we must have the humility to get back on track and realise we can do so much better than this, even though we were playing against a great team.

“We should’ve been quicker, taken men on in one-on-one situations, but we didn’t manage any of that. It’s a shame, we can’t do anything about this performance, but we can change our future.”

The Aquile have been beset by injury problems, most recently Senad Lulic potentially losing part of his finger following a gym accident.

“Lulic was meant to start tonight, but one player cannot change the balance of a whole team,” insisted Pioli.

Captain Lucas Biglia burst into tears at the final whistle and had to be consoled by referee Luca Banti, a sign of the problems Lazio are having.

“The psychological aspect is the most important and one we have to work on. We must be sharp and clear-headed enough to recognise this moment for what it is and work to turn it around.

“At this moment you cannot make comparisons with last season’s Lazio. We have to take a good hard look at ourselves.

“The players are fully aware of the fact they haven’t delivered on expectations. Lazio are in trouble, we must all join to help the team.”

Lazio vs. Juventus: Winners
and Losers from Serie A Match

24xquxx.jpg

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2595881-lazio-vs-juventus-winners-and-losers-from-serie-a-match?

Dec 4, 2015

Juventus ventured south on Friday evening, heading to the Italian capital to take on a Lazio side that had failed to win any of their five previous Serie A meetings. They would add to that misery, emerging with a comfortable 2-0 victory that puts the Turin giants firmly back among this year’s title contenders.

The Bianconeri had last lost to the Rome-based side back in January 2013, but coach Stefano Pioli refused to acknowledge the significance of that in his pre-match press conference, stressing the need to return to winning ways as quickly as possible

“The opponent is not that important, we can’t waste any time in picking up a result,” he said, per Football Italia. “We’re facing a great team, but I’m not interested in the past, every game is a story in itself, I’m looking at tomorrow night and we need a positive result.”

Meanwhile, four consecutive league victories before this clash had seen an air of optimism return to Juve, but boss Massimiliano Allegri was quick to guard against over-confidence as he too addressed the media this week.

“We still haven’t achieved anything,” he told reporters, per the club’s official website. “Thinking otherwise could result in a dip in focus and we mustn’t allow that to happen.” Having done secured three vital points, Juventus will now hope for other results to fall their way as they continue to chase the early leaders.

What follows is a look at the winners and losers from this encounter at the Stadio Olimpico, highlighting the best and worst performances from the two teams in a match that could prove decisive for both by the end of the campaign.

Winner: Paulo Dybala (Juventus)

Paulo Dybala continued his excellent recent form here, one shot resulting in an own goal, another in a wonderfully taken goal that secured the points for the Bianconeri. That 32nd-minute strike took his tally for the campaign to eight in all competitions, with three further assists only serving to highlight his importance.

Loser: Santiago Gentiletti (Lazio)

While there was an element of misfortune to his touch, there is little doubt that Santiago Gentiletti’s own goal contributed significantly to the final result here. Turning Paulo Dybala’s shot past his own goalkeeper, the Lazio defender made the task for his team-mates impossible, and the Biancocelesti would find no way back into this encounter.

Winner: Claudio Marchisio (Juventus)

Juventus undoubtedly dominated this encounter, but Claudio Marchisio’s midfield performance was undoubtedly a decisive factor. According to statistics from WhoScored.com, the 29-year-old Turin native recorded no fewer than two tackles and four interceptions, snuffing out Lazio’s attacks before they could truly begin.

The same source shows that Marchisio completed 87.2 percent of his pass attempts, keeping the game flowing whenever Juventus were in possession and contributing to their overall dominance of this match.

Loser: Stefano Pioli (Lazio)

A former defender for Juventus during his own playing days, Lazio boss Stefano Pioli is likely to find himself under huge pressure following this latest defeat. The result means the Rome-based club have not tasted victory in any of their last six Serie A outings and can surely expect to find his position come into question in the days to come.

Winner: Marco Parolo (Lazio)

If Lazio struggled to gain a foothold in this match, it was little fault of Marco Parolo, the Italian international doing all he could to help his side control proceedings.

According to figures courtesy of WhoScored.com, the former Parma man notched a staggering eight tackles and five interceptions, working tirelessly to win back the ball whenever his side lost possession.
