Juventus throw away two-goal lead against Udinese with fingers pointing at Szczesny

Immagine

Juventus have thrown away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Udinese, and while we could complain about VAR, my angst is with Wojciech Szczesny.

The Old Lady started the match in perfect fashion, with Juan Cuadrado picking up the ball down the right, before playing in Rodrigo Bentancur who lays it off to Paulo Dybala inside the box to smash home inside the opening two minutes of play. .............

We broke up their dominance with a second goal however, with Paulo Dybala picking up the ball on the half-way line and picking out Juan Cuadrado’s run, but he took it all the way himself this time around. ...........

After some neat interchanging, they managed to find the pass to break in behind the defence, and Wojciech Szczesny lunged into the forward and brought him down, and the Pole dived the wrong way to make it 2-1. ...........

With the stars on the pitch, I was a little in disbelief that we were struggling to get a grip on the game, although CR7 did hit the post with his placed effort from outside the box.

It was Udinese however who found the net next. Szczesny was again at fault as he fluffed his lines, failing to clear the ball with the in-running Okaka, who managed to blocked the clearance, and it fell kindly for his attacking team-mate Delofeu.

Not only did we look the least likely of the two score at this point, we were looking dangerously likely to lose the match with just 10 minutes remaining, but a moment of brilliance came in the dying moments. Cristiano Ronaldo leapt high in the box to head home in the 94th minute of the match, and for reasons unknown to me, VAR has moved to rule out our effort.

Twice VAR has gone against us today, and we have been denied the victory on Allegri’s return.

ALLEGRI: ‘A LESSON FOR JUVENTUS’

SportMob – Allegri says Juve must learn from 2-2 draw against Udinese

Massimiliano Allegri says the draw against Udinese must serve a lesson for Juventus and explains Cristiano Ronaldo’s omission.

The Old Lady threw a two-goal lead away at the Dacia Arena, picking up one point in their Serie A opener.

“We played a good game. Unfortunately, that’s what football is about. We should have done better in the second half, we were unable to manage unexpected events. This must serve us as a lesson,” Allegri told DAZN.

“We lost too many balls in the middle of the park in the second half. Perhaps we were a little tired. Still, you can’t concede these kinds of goals. We defended well, we hadn’t conceded a shot on target.” ......................

Wojciech Szczesny caused a penalty kick and can be blamed for Udinese’s equaliser as he tried to dribble Stefano Okaka on a Leonardo Bonucci back-pass, got caught out and Deulofeu was ready to tap into an empty net.

“Szczesny is a great goalkeeper, he didn’t make a technical mistake, we should have understood the moment and don’t be ashamed of throwing the ball in the stands,” Allegri explained.

“There are many games, I still need to understand how to use five subs, it was the first time I can use them, I don’t know if I used them correctly or not. I need to adapt,” the Tuscan concluded.

Immagine

Leonardo Mancuso pounced on a loose ball to give Empoli a shock victory in Turin, as a dismal Juventus deservedly lost their first match of the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era and were booed off the pitch.

Max Allegri reshuffled his pack for the first game since Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer to Manchester United, missing injured Aaron Ramsey, Arthur and Kaio Jorge, with Manuel Locatelli not yet fit to start, so Danilo played in front of the defence.

However, Leonardo Bonucci needed a crucial interception to stop Leonardo Mancuso tapping in. Juve didn’t learn that lesson, as Empoli took the lead with a similar move, Filippo Bandinelli wreaking havoc down the left, pulling back for the Patrick Cutrone attempt blocked, Mancuso scoring on the rebound.

DECIMATED JUVENTUS SQUAD FOR NAPOLI TRIP

Immagine

The Bianconeri are decimated by injuries and absentees, as the late return from international duty forced them to leave behind the South American players such as Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado, Alex Sandro, Danilo and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Chiesa picked up an injury while playing for Italy, joining Arthur Melo and Kaio Jorge on the treatment table.

Allegri: "Tomorrow great match"

Conferenza Allegri: le dichiarazioni del tecnico alla vigilia di Napoli Juve

Tomorrow the Bianconeri will be back in action for an exciting clash against Napoli. It is one which will see the coach have to deal without Federico Chiesa and his South American players but will also have a host of U23 players available.

"This is the calendar schedule and we must accept it with absolute serenity. Tomorrow we will have a great match.

I chose to leave the South Americans at home, but there will be interesting guys like De Winter, Sule, Miretti. Cuadrado could have returned but had an attack of gastroenteritis and remained in Colombia for investigations. The absences must not be an excuse because the players who will take the field will do so to get three points. The South Americans played at 3am this morning, they would arrive in Naples tomorrow morning and it makes little sense to risk them, also because on Tuesday we have kick off the UCL.

NAPOLI 2-1 JUVENTUS: KOULIBALY COMPLETES COMEBACK

Immagine

Kalidou Koulibaly and Matteo Politano pounced on Juventus errors to turn the game around after Alvaro Morata’s early strike, putting Napoli eight points clear of the Bianconeri.

This was an early Scudetto showdown, but Juve missed Paulo Dybala, Alex Sandro, Juan Cuadrado, Danilo and Rodrigo Bentancur due to international duty in South America, with Federico Chiesa, Arthur and Kaio Jorge injured, so had to completely revamp the line-up that picked up one point from the opening two rounds.

It was an incredibly aggressive start from the hosts, Matteo Politano nodding a Lorenzo Insigne cross over in the opening minute and a series of corners.

However, Alvaro Morata caught Kostas Manolas in possession near the corner flag after an awkward bobble and beat David Ospina from a tight angle with a splendid finish.

Wojciech Szczesny seemed surprised by the trademark Insigne right-foot curler and just about got his hands to it, only pushing the ball a couple of yards, so Politano scored on the rebound from the tightest of angles.

The corner sailed over Adrien Rabiot, Moise Kean did get his head to it, but turned the ball towards his own goal, where Szczesny could only fingertip it into the path of Koulibaly from a yard.

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVENTUS HAVE TIME TO CATCH UP’ AFTER NAPOLI DEFEAT

Allegri: 'Juventus have time to catch up' after Napoli defeat - Football Italia

Max Allegri ‘cannot reproach my players for anything’ after Juventus’ 2-1 defeat to Napoli and assures there’s ‘plenty of time’ to turn their season around.

The Bianconeri have had a disastrous start to the campaign with one point from three rounds, drawing 2-2 with Udinese, losing to Empoli and Napoli.

“I cannot reproach my players for anything this evening. We put in a worse performance against Empoli, but today unfortunately we paid the price for errors,” Allegri told DAZN.

“We conceded the equaliser and then this goal on a corner. There are many positives from the lads too. If you make mistakes like that, then naturally you’re going to concede on the counter.

“I saw giant steps forward, the lads did everything they had to this evening, but there are moments during the season when the ball goes in and others when it doesn’t,” continued Allegri.

“Szczesny is the first-choice goalkeeper at Juventus. He had some good games before this, the ball got away from him on the equaliser,” insisted the coach.

SPALLETTI AND ALLEGRI CLASH AFTER NAPOLI-JUVENTUS

Allegri en Spalletti clashen: "Je moet je schamen"

There was reportedly a nasty row between coaches Luciano Spalletti and Max Allegri in the press room after Napoli’s comeback victory over Juventus.

Following the match, Sky Sport Italia report that the two tacticians ‘clashed’ in the press room, with tension sky high.

According to the reporters who were present, Spalletti was irritated with Allegri saying that Juventus errors had effectively scored the goals for Napoli, which he maintained was not giving sufficient credit to the Partenopei.

Spalletti commented himself in the press conference on what had happened.

“I went to salute him after the game and he just carried on walking and ignored me,” was the version that Spalletti gave.

“I have always lost against Juve, for once I win and you’re lecturing me, for crying out loud?”

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVENTUS MUST WIN AGAINST MALMÖ FF’

Allegri: Malmo is a must-win for Juventus - Black & White & Read All Over

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri confirmed Wojciech Szczesny and Matthijs de Ligt will play against Malmö FF in the Champions League and stressed the Bianconeri ‘have to win’ in Sweden.

Malmö FF was actually the Juventus coach’s first opponents in the competition with the Bianconeri in 2014.

But the Old Lady arrives after a difficult start to the season and fresh from a 2-1 defeat to Napoli in Serie A last weekend.

Italia media have criticised Poland international Szczesny after the first three games in Serie A, but the coach defends his shot stopper.

“Szczesny is a top-level goalkeeper, and he will absolutely play tomorrow.”

“We have many great players up front,” Allegri said. “Federico Chiesa was not 100 per cent, so we preferred not to risk losing him for a long time.

“We are all responsible and in these moments we need an even greater sense of responsibility,” he said. “We have to improve in many things, even in managing the moments of the match and pay attention to the small details that make the difference.”

Allegri revealed Juventus target a place in the quarter-finals of the competition and claimed anything can happen ‘from there’.

Allegri finished the press conference by confirming Dutch centre-back De Ligt ‘will play tomorrow’.

MALMÖ 0-3 JUVENTUS: OFF THE MARK IN SWEDEN

Immagine

Juventus had the perfect start in the Champions League with a 3-0 victory away to Malmo, decided by Alex Sandro, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata.

The Bianconeri desperately needed a boost after starting the Serie A season with one point from three rounds, seeking their first victory in the second Max Allegri tenure. Federico Chiesa, Federico Bernardeschi and Arthur were out of action, but the South Americans returned after missing the Napoli trip due to international duty ending late.

Juve took the lead when Juan Cuadrado’s cross only skimmed Rodrigo Bentancur’s forehead, finding Alex Sandro for a diving header from 10 yards.

The Brazilian almost completed a brace five minutes later, his excellent first touch on a Leonardo Bonucci cross-field pass, but the angled drive whistled just wide.

Ismael Diawara rushed off his line and made himself big to deny an Alvaro Morata lob, but Morata was pulled down by a clumsy Lasse Nielsen challenge, more obvious than dangerous with arms all over the striker. Dybala stepped up, slipped on the penalty spot, but still managed to convert as it went straight down the middle.

Moments later, Morata had made it 3-0, as a long ball was knocked down by Adrien Rabiot, a defender collided with Dybala, and the Spaniard at full stretch poked it over the on-rushing Diawara.

Morata was denied by Diawara at the end of a wonderful team move after combining with Cuadrado and Dybala. Moise Kean did get the ball in the net, but only after he’d wandered offside, then forced a tricky save from Diawara in the final minute.

ALLEGRI: ‘THERE WAS MORE PRESSURE ON JUVENTUS’

Malmo Juventus

Max Allegri admits there was ‘a little more pressure’ on Juventus after their dire Serie A start, so he hopes the 3-0 Champions League win away to Malmo can be a turning point. ‘The clean sheet takes away some anxiety.’

The Bianconeri got their first win of the season and started the Champions League on the right foot, with a comfortable 3-0 result away to Malmo.

Alex Sandro’s header opened the scoring, followed by a Paulo Dybala penalty and Alvaro Morata strike.

“When you play in the Champions League, there is always some tension in the build-up, especially when playing away from home and there was naturally a little more pressure after three Serie A games in which we didn’t do that well,” Allegri told Sport Mediaset.

“The lads played well on a technical level, we could’ve done better with some situations in the first half. We need to improve, but this doesn’t change the work we started on July 14.

It was also notably the first Juventus clean sheet in all competition since March 2.

“That is a sign too. I told the lads at half-time to end the game without conceding, as it takes away some anxiety. Szczesny did well today, it was important to get this victory, otherwise the winless streak was going to get a bit too long!

Juventus resume their Serie A campaign this weekend against Milan, who have a 100 per cent record.

“Milan are very strong and going through a period of great enthusiasm, so it’s motivating for us to know it’s an important match.”

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVE VS. MILAN MORE IMPORTANT FOR THEM, CHIESA IN DOUBT’

Immagine

The Bianconeri have only collected one point from the opening three Serie A games. Tomorrow, they face table leaders Milan who have won each of their opening three league matches.

“It’s one of the most important games of the season, perhaps the most important one. Milan have improved over the last two seasons, they’ve been playing together for almost three years,” Allegri said at a press conference.

“We are growing, we have good expectations, but it will be more important for them than for us.

“Milan played a great game in Liverpool, it wasn’t easy. It proves they have personality, it will be a great game tomorrow.

“I have one doubt in defence, one in midfield and one in attack. I will decide after tomorrow’s training session.”

“Chiesa is one of the doubts I have.

“We could have had more points, but this was not the case,” Allegri admitted.

“For sure, we’ll play a great game tomorrow, then we can’t know the result already. The devil invented football and games can change very quickly. We need to be balanced, work hard have the desire and the ambition to improve.

“Juventus must play to win the title, not just single games. To do it, you must have consistency, work hard and be focused all the time.”

Matthijs de Ligt started against Malmoe earlier this week, but could be rested against Milan tomorrow.

His agent Mino Raiola has revealed that the Dutch defender could leave Juventus in the summer, but Allegri believes the former Ajax man will remain in Turin for a long time.

JUVENTUS 1-1 MILAN: REBIC RESPONDS TO MORATA

Immagine

Alvaro Morata’s early goal was cancelled out by an Ante Rebic header, as Milan amid an injury crisis fought back to leave Juventus further behind the top spot.

This was a huge match, as the Bianconeri had just one point from three rounds, while the Rossoneri were on a 100 per cent record in Serie A. Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi were only fit for the bench, with Arthur Melo and Kaio Jorge injured, but Max Allegri dropped Leonardo Bonucci. Milan missed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Olivier Giroud, Davide Calabria, Rade Krunic, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Junior Messias, so Fikayo Tomori was re-routed to right-back.

It was the perfect start for the Old Lady, because Milan’s corner was cleared and Paulo Dybala sent Alvaro Morata running from midfield, keeping his cool to scoop the finish over Mike Maignan.

The Spaniard almost got a second, getting in front of Simon Kjaer to flick on the Alex Sandro cross and test Maignan, as did Dybala from distance, pinning the Rossoneri back for long periods.

Rafael Leao fired over the bar, while Maignan parried a Danilo angled drive, but once again Juventus failed to keep a Serie A clean sheet since March.

Tonali whipped in a corner and Rebic towered between Rabiot and Manuel Locatelli to nod it in off the inside of the far post. That was the third Serie A meeting in a row that the Croatian scored against Juve and the Rossoneri had been gaining momentum as the game wore on.

Rebic fired over from a tricky angle after a Brahim Diaz cross-field pass and Pierre Kalulu thought he must give Milan the win when sprinting down the right, but Wojciech Szczesny performed a desperate reaction save from point-blank range.

ALLEGRI: ‘I GOT JUVE SUBSTITUTIONS WRONG AGAINST MILAN, BUT…’

Crisis bij Juventus: 'Zo worden we geen kampioen' - Voetbal International

Max Allegri takes ‘responsibility for getting the substitutions wrong’ in the 1-1 draw with Milan, but also bitterly criticised his Juventus stars. ‘You need to be tough, determined, keep focused and bring home the result.’

The Bianconeri had dominated the first half, taking control through an Alvaro Morata counter-attack, but the Rossoneri amid an injury crisis still grew as the game wore on and equalised through an Ante Rebic header.

Pierre Kalulu even had the chance to win it for the visitors late on, denied by a Wojciech Szczesny reaction save.

“Despite a good first half, when we created chances and allowed Milan just one opportunity, we even risked defeat at the end of a game that had been under total control,” Allegri told DAZN.

“Unfortunately, we lost that concentration, determination and focus. Just look at the corner where we conceded the goal, there was complacency. It’s not possible to give this game away after being in control. Evidently, we need to make more progress. A lot more.”

This is the first time in 60 years that Juventus have failed to win the opening four rounds of the Serie A season, and they now sit in 18th place, overtaken even by Hellas Verona.

Juve have now lost seven points from leading situations this season, having broken the deadlock against UdineseNapoli and Milan, and have not scored any Serie A goals in the second half.

“The problem is that winning a game is one thing, winning a league is another, and that means not conceding goals due to errors like that. We can draw games if the other team does better, not if we give it away.

SPEZIA 2-3 JUVENTUS: CHIESA INSPIRES COMEBACKImmagine

Juventus have their first win, but it was again far from impressive, fighting back from 2-1 down to beat Spezia 3-2 with Federico Chiesa and Matthijs de Ligt.

This was already a must-win game for Max Allegri, who had just two points from the opening four rounds and had fumbled seven points from leading situations. Giorgio Chiellini, Arthur and Kaio Jorge were unavailable, while Alvaro Morata had a slight muscular issue, so Moise Kean and Federico Chiesa came in. Spezia were fresh from their first win of the season.

The breakthrough finally came when Leonardo Bonucci floated a long ball over the top, Adrien Rabiot knocked it down for Kean, who took a touch before rifling into the far bottom corner from just inside the area. It was his first goal since returning to Turin after Everton and PSG experiences.

However, Juve have already fumbled seven points from leading situations this season and did it again, conceding the equaliser soon after. Wojciech Szczesny did well to beat away the initial effort on a corner, but could do nothing when Emmanuel Gyasi’s ferocious follow-up took a slight deflection to loop into the far top corner. Gyasi also rubbed it in by copying Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration.

Max Allegri made changes at the break, introducing Alex Sandro and Manuel Locatelli, but it was Spezia who turned the game around completely. A long ball sent Janis Antiste running on the counter, he cut inside one against two and the shot took a deflection off Bonucci to wrong-foot Szczesny at the near post.

Jeroen Zoet pushed a Kean header over the bar and got to the Dybala strike, while Antiste saw his effort practically cleared off the line by Locatelli.

However, moments later Juve got back on level terms, as Chiesa won the ball back from Daniele Verde at the corner flag, rode a tackle and lunged forward to poke in from 10 yards.

The game continued to twist and turn, Juve not going 3-2 up when Morata flicked on a corner, it was not cleared and Matthijs de Ligt fired in with his weaker right foot from eight yards.

It wasn’t over, because Szczesny needed a reaction save at the back post on Riccardo Maggiore’s control and volley.

ALLEGRI: ‘LUCKILY WE WON A GAME SUFFERING’

Spezia 2-3 Juventus: Juventus were forced to come from behind against Spezia | The Paradise

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri was less angry after his men beat Spezia 3-2 in Liguria. ‘Luckily we won a match suffering’.

Federico Chiesa and Matthijs de Ligt scored the two goals to turn 1-2 into 3-2 in the second half, after Moise Kean had opened the scoring for the Bianconeri.

Spezia provided another stern test for the Old Lady, as Emanuel Gyasi and Janis Antiste turned the game around on either side of the break.

Allegri, who criticised his players after the 1-1 draw with Milan, was happy to see a determined Bianconeri on Wednesday night.

“Luckily we won a match suffering,” the coach told DAZN after the game. “Otherwise we might have thought we did well and there was nothing more to do.

“There are many things to improve. We have players who must do better in their decisions of the last pass, when to shoot on the target.”

“We don’t have to look at the table. We try to put our first win next to the first at home against Sampdoria. There are players who have important qualities and who need to improve.

ALLEGRI ANNOUNCES JUVENTUS CHANGES AND RABIOT INJURY

Juventus Sampdoria, conferenza Allegri: le dichiarazioni del tecnico

The Bianconeri return to the pitch on Sunday at 11.30 UK time, hosting Roberto D’Aversa’s side at the Allianz Stadium.

“We must face this game by playing well and trying to make one step forward in the table, then we’ll think about Chelsea,” Allegri said at his pre-match press conference.

“We won the first game away and we must do the same at home, there will be changes because some players played 6-7 games in the last period.”

However, Allegri confirmed that Leonardo Bonucci will play while Mattia Perin will start in goal.

“Bonucci is an important player for this team, so he plays if he is fit. Ha may say to be tired, but when the game gets closer, he always feels well. I am happy about the four central defenders that I have.

“I don’t know if Dybala will start, while Rabiot will surely rest, because he picked up a knock to his ankle so he won’t be called up,” Allegri revealed.

“Federico Chiesa is feeling well and he can play both on the left and on the right, tomorrow we’ll see.”

“Locatelli is doing well, but don’t forget that he arrives from Sassuolo and it’s challenging to play with the Juventus jersey.

JUVENTUS 3-2 SAMPDORIA: NOT EASY MATCH FOR BIANCONERI

Immagine

Juventus got their first Serie A home win of the season, beating Sampdoria 3-2 in another unconvincing performance, but Paulo Dybala’s injury cast a shadow over proceedings.

Manuel Locatelli’s strike was charged down, but he laid off the rebound for Paulo Dybala to smash into the near bottom corner from the edge of the box.

However, just as the Bianconeri were getting into gear, Dybala pulled up clutching his leg and limped off in tears.

His replacement Dejan Kulusevski should’ve done better when nodding a Juan Cuadrado cross wide, but the Dybala exit visibly sapped the enthusiasm out of Juve, who had started so well.

However, just before half-time, Chiesa’s strike was charged down by a Nicola Murru hand and Leonardo Bonucci converted the penalty low and hard into the near bottom corner.

The lead was only doubled for circa 90 seconds before Samp got back into it. Perin parried a Fabio Quagliarella snapshot and on the resulting corner Candreva whipped a wonderful cross into the six-yard box for the Maya Yoshida glancing header. Yet again, there is no Serie A clean sheet for Juventus since March, a run of 20 consecutive games.

The Bianconeri did restore the two-goal cushion when Chiesa ran at defenders, Omar Colley’s clearance was straight at Kulusevski, who pulled back from the by-line for Manuel Locatelli to score from six yards. It was the Italy international’s first goal in the Juve jersey.

Matthijs de Ligt needed a perfectly-timed tackle on Quagliarella, while Audero beat away a Rodrigo Bentancur strike and Morata blasted wide from an Aaron Ramsey assist.

However, it wasn’t over and Samp set up a tense finale after a well-worked move down the left with Adrien Silva found Candreva to blast in the angled drive from 12 yards.

ALLEGRI: ‘DYBALA AND MORATA OUT AGAINST CHELSEA’

Juventus' Dybala and Morata ruled out of Chelsea clash, says Allegri | The Daily Star

Max Allegri confirms Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata will ‘certainly’ miss Chelsea and Torino games, while he explains what went wrong in Juventus’ 3-2 victory over Sampdoria.

It was their first home win of the season, their second victory this week after the 3-2 at Spezia, but again the defence leaked goals and confidence seemed low.

This was Allegri’s 400th Serie A match as a coach, but he seemed furious in the final minutes after Samp pulled it back to 3-2.

It was their 20th consecutive top flight game without a clean sheet.

“The team defended well as a team, but there were errors on a corner for 3-1 and then we gave it away in midfield for 3-2,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We should’ve killed the game off earlier, we’re happy to have a second consecutive victory, the first at home, and will now prepare for Chelsea.”

To make matters worse, Dybala limped off in tears after just 20 minutes with a muscular problem, while Alvaro Morata was also touching the back of his thigh as he came off.

“Dybala and Morata certainly won’t play against Chelsea or Torino. That is for certain. We can only hope that we get them back after the break for international duty.

“Clean sheets are pretty rare nowadays anyway, I saw yesterday 2-2 and 3-3 results. On the corner, there was a distraction in the marking and we need to be more focused. We man-mark on set plays. Bonucci realised there was danger and went to get Yoshida, but he’d lost his man before the corner was even taken.

JUVENTUS 1-0 CHELSEA: CHIESA SINGS THE BLUES

Immagine

Federico Chiesa scored a wonderful strike to stun a Chelsea side that dominated possession in Turin, but had very few genuine chances, as Juventus boss Max Allegri taught Thomas Tuchel a tactical masterclass.

The Bianconeri had to completely revamp with Federico Bernardeschi as a False 9 in a 4-3-3, because Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala, Aaron Ramsey, Kaio Jorge and Arthur Melo were all unavailable, leaving Moise Kean on the bench. The reigning Champions League holders made the trip without N’Golo Kante, who tested positive for COVID-19, Reece James, Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, but started Italy international Jorginho.

Ex-Inter striker Romelu Lukaku tested Wojciech Szczesny with an early corner routine, but for all Chelsea’s territorial dominance, Juve went very close on the counter with Federico Chiesa’s angled drive skimming the far post and Adrien Rabiot blasting over.

Within 11 seconds of the restart, Juventus had taken the lead. Chelsea were sluggish after a substitution and did not even get a touch. Bernardeschi’s through ball found Chiesa to hold off Antonio Rudiger and blast into the roof of the net from close range.

Chelsea began to pin Juve back as the half wore on, desperately trying to get back into this game, but again Szczesny had very little to do.

In fact, Juventus should’ve made it 2-0 on 63 minutes when Adrien Rabiot’s cross-field pass was volleyed back across the face of goal by Cuadrado, but Bernardeschi somehow managed to get his run all wrong and failed to tap in from six yards.

CHIESA: ‘JUVENTUS SPIRIT BEAT CHELSEA’

Federico Chiesa goal

Federico Chiesa saw ‘the Juventus spirit’ writ large in this evening’s 1-0 Champions League victory over Chelsea, achieved amid an injury crisis.

It was a stunning start to the second half, scoring within 11 seconds of the restart and without Chelsea getting a single touch, Federico Bernardeschi threading through for Chiesa to blast into the roof of the net.

Although the reigning Champions League holders dominated possession, they failed to create many genuine chances, firing off target with Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz.

On the other hand, Juve really should’ve had a second with Bernardeschi failing to make the most of a Juan Cuadrado volleyed assist.

“It was a hard-fought performance, because Chelsea pinned us back and did really well in possession, but this evening we showed what the Juve spirit is all about, the spirit that the coach asks for,” Chiesa told Amazon Prime Italia.

“We started out with a system, then the coach changed so we could attack the space, where Chelsea were struggling this evening, and we did well to punish them.”

ALLEGRI EXPLAINS HOW JUVENTUS NEUTRALISED CHELSEA

Allegri is de anti-Guardiola, maar beide benaderingen maken Chelsea onschadelijk Football Italia

Max Allegri compares Juventus to ‘sailors in stormy seas’ and explains his tactical decisions to neutralise Chelsea and hit them on the break in a 1-0 Champions League victory.

It was Federico Chiesa who got the winning goal 11 seconds after the restart, before Chelsea had managed to get a single touch.

For all of their possession, the reigning Champions League holders didn’t have a shot on target, Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz turning over.

“Usually, when sailors are in stormy seas, they can always find the way out. That’s what we did tonight with a great game against the Champions of Europe,” Allegri told Amazon Prime Italia.

“We can play better than this in purely technical terms, but we frankly didn’t allow many real clear-cut chances and we wasted a couple of dangerous counter-attacks too.

“After two games, six points and zero goals conceded, that’s a good step towards qualification for the Round of 16.”

Chelsea had 66 per cent possession, but it’s also fair to say that was the approach Allegri wanted.

“Juventus must know how to win games like this, when you have to suffer and fight for the result. That’s what the lads did this evening.

“With all due respect to the Champions of Europe, Wojciech Szczesny didn’t have a real save to make.”

TORINO VS. JUVENTUS: FIRST DERBY DELLA MOLE OF THE SEASON

Torino vs Juventus: Match preview - Juventus

Juventus seem set to start with Federico Chiesa and Moise Kean up front against Torino in the 153rd Derby della Mole.

Juventus arrive after a big win against Chelsea in the Champions League group stage and showed the Italians can still defend against the reigning champions of Europe.

But they are expected to run the game against the Granata, a match they have dominated in recent years.

The Granata, however, face Juventus in Serie A for the second time in history with an equal amount of points as the Old Lady.

Toro have, like Juventus, bounced back from a difficult start to the new campaign and we expect another classic at the Grande Torino on Saturday.

Torino (3-4-2-1): V. Milinkovic; Zima, Bremer, Rodriguez; Singo, Lukic, Mandragora, Aina; Linetty, Brekalo; Sanabria

Juventus (4-4-2): Szczesny; Danilo, De Ligt, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Cuadrado, Bentancur, Locatelli, Rabiot; Kean, Chiesa

Juventus’ Arthur and Kaio Jorge are available for today’s Derby Della Mole, while Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala and Aaron Ramsey remain out of action.

Dybala and Morata sustained muscle injuries during Juventus’ 3-2 win over Sampdoria last weekend.

Ramsey skipped Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Chelsea and is still on the treatment table with muscle fatigue.

However, both Arthur and Kaio Jorge are available for today’s match at the Stadio Grande Torino, although they are expected to start on the bench.

The young Brazilian striker sustained a muscle injury after Juventus’ opening Serie A game against Udinese in August, while Arthur is available for the first time this season.

Back in July, the Brazilian midfielder underwent surgery to repair the right leg injury he had suffered in February.
