Criscitiello blames Comolli for ‘suicidal’ Tudor decision, accuses Juventus fans of double standard

Juve, il colpo scelto da Comolli: è 'scontro' con Tudor - CalcioMercato.it

The outspoken Michele Criscitiello launched a blistering tirade against Juventus, and not even the fans were spared.

The Bianconeri have been a club in turmoil for several years now, with players, managers and top directors coming and going. ............

The Italian journalist ranted about almost everyone at the club, beginning with the General Director, Damien Comolli, accusing him of committing a ‘suicidal’ decision.

“A French director with the manager’s presumption can’t even think of leading Juventus. The transfer market was a mess, money was wasted, and above all, the “we told you so” attitude about Tudor,” wrote the editor-in-chief.

“It was a mistake to hire him as a ferryman, a suicide to build a tailor-made project for him. If Tudor has consistently been called upon by average teams to finish the season, there must be a reason.” ............

“Managers, whether French or Italian, must understand that coaching Juventus isn’t about gambling; you have to be absolutely sure of the safe side.

“Just as Giuntoli was considered foolish to trust the emerging Motta, we consider Comolli foolish to confirm Tudor when even the stones knew he would only serve to get to the end of the line.

“And if Giuntoli hadn’t argued with Motta, Tudor would never have arrived.

“The blame lies with the manager, but also with the Juventus fans, who (rightly) blasted Motta, partly because of his Inter past, but also granted Tudor an unnecessary line of credit simply for playing for Juve and for bringing grit and determination at a critical moment.” ............

“If, however, we want to address the real problem, we must go further. Juventus can choose the wrong director, they can choose the wrong coach, but whoever is in charge is the club’s real problem, because at this rate, the future won’t be built, it will only be postponed.

“John Elkann isn’t a football man, and after Agnelli, he’s bringing Juventus back to the indecent post-Calciopoli era. Thanks to his political and economic power, he sent his cousin on vacation abroad, but Juventus can’t be considered a family power play.” ............

“Bari can make these mistakes, but not Juve. Today we’re at a dangerous crossroads. The risk of being left out of the Scudetto race at Christmas and the crazy fear that Inter, Milan, Napoli, and Roma could earn more points.

“The problem, for everyone, is Tudor. And so it is. But the real problem is at the top. If Juventus doesn’t change their tune, the future will have dire consequences.”

Damascelli says Juventus decision-makers must share blame

Juventus chief Chiellini convinced of big Comolli impact - TribalFootball.com

The discussion around Juventus’ form has intensified following their defeat to Como, which marked their first loss of the league season. The team in black and white had appeared resilient, navigating earlier fixtures with relative stability and managing to avoid defeat against sides seeking to capitalise on their weaknesses. However, against Como, Igor Tudor struggled to find an effective game plan, and the opposition, led by Cesc Fàbregas and orchestrated through Nico Paz, were able to exploit Juventus’ vulnerabilities. ............

Tony Damascelli has extended his critique beyond Tudor, highlighting issues within the club as a whole. He also took aim at Damien Comolli, noting unconventional behaviour that, in his opinion, reflects wider organisational weaknesses. Damascelli stated, “Juventus’ first league defeat may surprise those who haven’t yet understood the true extent of the team, its limitations, not only in terms of technique but also in terms of personality and character; in short, the distinguishing features that have disappeared from its identity card. Tudor isn’t the only one to blame, nor are his players entirely to blame. The low quality of the managers chosen by Elkann is evident, marginal figures with no weight in the dressing room. Damien Comolli always brings his wife into the stands (a situation that has never happened before in the history of Juventus’ top management).” ............

For Juventus to regain stability, Tudor must address the tactical shortcomings exposed by the defeat to Como, while the club as a whole may need to review internal procedures and management strategies. The squad’s character and technical ability remain critical, but broader structural improvements could prove decisive in restoring confidence and performance levels. ............

Paolo De Paola thinks Juventus should have kept Cristiano Giuntoli

Rimpianto Giuntoli alla JUVENTUS: "Lui un Vincente, COMOLLI No"

In the summer of 2024, Juventus embarked on a new era of change under the guidance of Thiago Motta, who was appointed as head coach. Alongside him, several new players joined the club, carefully selected to fit his tactical vision and dynamic style of play. The club’s sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, was entrusted with leading this revolution in what was his second season in the role.

Giuntoli, who had previously built a strong reputation for his work at Napoli, showcased his expertise during his first year in Turin, where he successfully streamlined operations and addressed various internal issues. ............

Paolo De Paola, reflecting on the situation, has expressed his belief that the decision to dismiss Giuntoli was both unjustified and detrimental to the club’s progress. He remarked, “This second revolution was necessary. Motta failed, okay, Giuntoli still had two years left on his contract, you could have kept him by putting a general manager or another manager alongside him and let him take his footballing stride. What’s the point of a second revolution? We’re headed for another failure, so there’ll be another revolution in the summer? I have the feeling that at Juventus, everyone wants to save themselves.” ............

De Paola’s comments encapsulate the uncertainty surrounding Juventus’ sporting direction. The constant turnover of staff and repeated attempts at structural renewal have led to questions about the club’s long-term vision. For many, the decision to dismiss Giuntoli, a figure credited with stability and strategic foresight, symbolises a lack of patience and continuity. ............

Massimo Pavan insists Juventus problem is beyond the team itself

Juventus, Tudor e Comolli, il grande freddo: cosa è successo, il croato rischia

Juventus continue to face a turbulent period both on and off the pitch as questions grow about where the real problems at the club lie. The Bianconeri dismissed Igor Tudor following a disappointing run of results, but some observers believe the issues extend far beyond the playing team. ............

Massimo Pavan has voiced his opinion on the situation and does not believe the players are the sole reason for Juventus’ current decline. While their underwhelming performances have certainly contributed to the team’s struggles, Pavan suggests that the deeper causes of the crisis stem from structural and organisational weaknesses at the club. ............

He believes that instability in the boardroom has created an atmosphere of uncertainty that filters down to the dressing room, affecting morale and results. Without a strong, unified vision from the top, even the most talented squad will struggle to achieve its potential. ............

As Juventus prepare to appoint Luciano Spalletti as its new manager, expectations are once again high that a change on the bench will spark improvement. However, Pavan insists that appointing a new coach will not be enough if the club does not address the lack of clear direction and authority within its management structure.

He said: “We all know why Tudor was fired. The team isn’t the main problem; the real problems lie elsewhere. We need a stronger, more present club, capable of leading the team with full responsibility.” ............

In a short announcement released earlier today, Juventus announced that Damien Comolli’s role with the club has been greatly expanded.

The Board of Directors of Juventus Football Club S.p.A. (“Juventus” or the “Company”), which met today under the chairmanship of Gianluca Ferrero, resolved, inter alia, on the appointment of corporate officers and the granting of powers to the Directors, as well as on the establishment of the Board committees and the appointment of their respective members.

New Juventus CEO Comolli ‘Obsessed with winning; Will talk Vlahovic at end of season’

Comolli chiarisce il futuro di Vlahovic alla Juve: "C'è un accordo già stretto in estate"

New Juventus CEO Damien Comolli has outlined his ambitions for the club after officially replacing Maurizio Scanavino, describing his vision as one built on discipline, sustainability and a relentless desire to win.

Speaking to the media at the Allianz Stadium, Comolli thanked John Elkann for his trust and emphasised the weight of his new role. “It’s an honour and a privilege to manage this club,” he said.

“Every day I wake up and think: how can we make Juventus win again? I have an obsession with victory. This club has an incredible history of success – there is no alternative but to honour it.” ............

He also acknowledged that Juventus are operating under tight Financial Fair Play controls, warning that January will be a restrained window. “We’ve received a letter from UEFA. What we do in January will be difficult and closely monitored,” he explained. “We’ll look around, but there are no major plans.”

Comolli confirmed there is already an agreement in place with Dusan Vlahovic over his future. “We reached an understanding last summer,” he revealed. “We’ll speak again at the end of the season, but we’re confident. No Italian club can compete financially with the Premier League, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be competitive.” ............

The French executive also discussed the need for long-term sustainability and new sources of revenue – including concerts and events at the stadium – while reaffirming his commitment to developing young talent. “Without a high-performing academy, it’s impossible to compete in Europe. We want to grow our own stars.” ............

Comolli says Juventus will struggle to make major squad investments in January

The first words from Damien Comolli after his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Juventus.

Damien Comolli has been promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Juventus after successfully overseeing the club’s summer transition that followed Cristiano Giuntoli’s departure. The Bianconeri brought Comolli into a key leadership role after Giuntoli’s transfer decisions failed to deliver the desired results, leading to his eventual exit. Despite the financial limitations that the club faced during the recent transfer window, Juventus managed to conduct a reasonable level of business, with Comolli playing a central role in guiding those efforts.

His appointment reflects the confidence placed in him by John Elkann, who is said to fully trust Comolli’s strategic approach and leadership style. ............

Under Comolli’s direction, Juventus have taken a more measured approach to recruitment, with a focus on balancing the need for competitiveness and financial responsibility. His leadership during the summer helped the club navigate difficult market conditions while still maintaining squad depth. Looking ahead, Juventus are aware that further reinforcements may be required in the January transfer window to help manager Luciano Spalletti achieve the team’s seasonal objectives.

The Bianconeri believe Spalletti can lead the team to success if provided with the right players, and there is recognition within the club that targeted investment could strengthen their campaign. However, any spending must remain within the parameters of financial regulations, particularly given the recent communication from governing authorities about compliance and oversight. ............

Comolli has openly acknowledged that Juventus will face limitations when it comes to their January transfer activity. Speaking about the club’s financial situation, he said, “We have some constraints: Financial Fair Play requires us to be careful. We received a letter from the regulatory body. What we do in January will be very difficult and monitored by UEFA. We don’t have any specific plans. We’ll look around, but nothing major.” ............

Marotta insists he reached the pinnacle of his career at Juventus

nedved.jpg

Beppe Marotta served as an executive at Juventus from 2010 to 2018, becoming one of the central decision makers behind the Bianconeri’s most dominant era. During his tenure, Juventus established complete control over Italian football, beginning a run of success that resulted in nine consecutive league titles. Although that dominance eventually came to an end in 2021 when Inter Milan claimed the Scudetto, it was Marotta who played a key role in building the Nerazzurri side that ultimately halted Juventus’ record-breaking streak. ............

Despite the achievements he has overseen at Inter, Marotta has made clear that he regards his time at Juventus as the defining period of his professional life. His leadership at the club coincided with sustained success, extensive squad rebuilding and a strategic stability that positioned Juventus as the strongest force in Italy for nearly a decade. His understanding of long-term planning and his ability to manage both sporting and administrative challenges earned him significant recognition across Europe.

Marotta remains highly influential today, yet his reflections indicate a deep appreciation for the years in Turin. His comments suggest that his work at Juventus represented not only a high point in terms of results but also a period in which he felt most complete as an executive. ............

He said, “The pinnacle of my personal career was at Juventus, when I was almost 60 and in full command of my professional skills. I learned a lot from Sergio Marchionne, even though he had nothing to do with Juventus; he was an advocate of change. A leader is courageous and persevering; he must know how to listen.” ............

Comolli breaks down how he interviews coaches for the Juventus job

Luciano Spalletti and Damien Comolli shake hands (juventus.com)

Damien Comolli has played a pivotal role in appointing the last two managers for Juventus and has now provided insight into how the club typically approaches these discussions. After his six-month contract expired, Comolli oversaw negotiations to secure a longer deal for Igor Tudor during the summer. He subsequently decided to dismiss the Croatian a few months later, opting to replace him with Luciano Spalletti, despite there being several other managerial candidates who could have been considered for the role. ............

Comolli has now shared details about how Juventus conducts its managerial appointments, outlining the core elements discussed during interviews. He explained, “All coaches, in their interview with the club, make their presentation and say everything is fine. In reality, when they start coaching, they say everything is going badly. Now, however, I insert those phrases into the contract, to remind the coaches of what they said. In the interview, I say: ‘This is how we work, these are our processes, data guides player selection, set pieces, injury prevention, and much more. If it’s okay with you, that’s it; otherwise, we shake hands and say goodbye.’ The coach must embrace this philosophy.”

This approach highlights Comolli’s focus on transparency and alignment between the club and any prospective manager. By embedding expectations directly into the contract, he ensures that all parties are clear about Juventus’ methods, values, and operational principles before the season begins. This strategy seeks to minimise misunderstandings and maintain consistency in how the team is managed. ............

The emphasis on philosophy and process underscores the importance of appointing a manager who not only has tactical knowledge but is also capable of working within Juventus’ structured environment. Comolli’s approach indicates that the club prioritises alignment with internal systems, data-driven decision-making, and attention to detail across all aspects of team management. By being upfront about these requirements, Juventus aim to secure a manager who can both respect and enhance the club’s framework. ............
