The Bianconeri were trailing 1-0 in Norway at half-time, but the game changed with the introduction of Kenan Yildiz, who inspired the goals from Lois Openda, Weston McKennie and Jonathan David for a 3-2 victory. ............ “The team played an open and attacking game, which was a struggle at time, as Bodo/Glimt play with really impressive passing and speed of thought on this pitch, that had rather intimidated us looking at their previous home matches,” Spalletti said. “We didn’t make the most of some pretty easy situations in the first half, then after the break they doubled up and pushed hard. This is an important victory, one the lads deserved, and we dedicate it to ourselves and those fans who made the trip to see us here.” “It’s not about choices, it’s also about ensuring the whole squad develops. I am happy tonight because in the locker room I saw happy faces, or at least more relaxed ones, because players are people too and they suffer when things don’t go well. It’s not like those who suggest they are laissez-faire.” ............ “The team kept pushing forward every time, had some good moves and spells of play. Everyone has struggled here, they all told us that it felt like the hosts were going twice as quickly, that they could breathe more easily in this climate, that there were so many difficulties,” continued Spalletti. “It would’ve been a pity not to bring home the points after that second half, as the lads did what they needed to do.” ............ “The team does feel this cloud over them of everything that is said, they don’t have the freedom to make decisions and play their game. There were problems here too, with some attitudes where we allowed Bodo/Glimt back in and we could’ve avoided that. “The players need to grow in terms of belief and courage, we need that extra step in both mentality and our training, because we don’t have the right tempo in training. “A few players are not fully fit or in form, and we need to do this in a real match situation, not in the neutrality of training, because that speed of thought and movement needs that scenario,” concluded Spalletti. . Socrates 9433 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 139169 messaggi Inviato Mercoledì alle 08:47 (modificato) Juventus 3 - Bodø/Glimt 2: Initial reaction and random observations The message was clear from the traveling fans as Juventus walked off the field at halftime down 1-0 to Bodø/Glimt on a frigid Tuesday night in Norway: “Tirate fuori gli attributi.” You probably don’t have to be all that fluent in Italian to get the gist of what was bend that very understandable statement from those Juve supporters braving the below-freezing temperatures to root on their beloved Old Lady. But after the first half Juventus put forward, the point was quite the valid one. ............ Juventus’ winless run in the Champions League this season is officially over. And not only did one of the Bianconeri’s struggling strikers they signed over the summer find the back of the net, but both of them did, with Jonathan David scoring the game-winning goal in the first minute of stoppage time to give Juve the 3-2 comeback win over Bodø/Glimt at the Aspmyra Stadion. To say how much Luciano Spalletti’s squad needed these three points in the UCL league phase can’t be denied, and the fact that they actually came out in the second half and right so many of the wrongs that we had seen in the opening 45 minutes. The 1-0 deficit was flipped within 15 minutes, with Loïs Openda scoring his first goal in a Juve shirt to tie it up, then Weston McKennie headed home a Fabio Miretti cross to put Juventus ahead. It was, honestly, a stunning flip — and one that coincided with Kenan Yildiz being introduced to start the second half. Those things might have been related to one another. (OK, maybe a little bit more than “might” considering Yildiz was absolutely terrorizing Bodø/Glimt’s defense from the first minute he was on the field until the final whistle sounded.) But considering the fact that Juventus had all of three points from their first four Champions League games this season, there’s no denying just how much they needed to win this one. It didn’t really matter how they did it, just as long as they actually did it. They needed to show some sort of fight, some sort of spirit to actually turn the game in their favor and do whatever they needed to do to get back into the top 24. (You know, the place they weren’t in at the start of the day.) ............ But this team doesn’t do anything easy. It can’t be said enough that they are their own worst enemy so often and it’s those mistakes that lead to so many of the goals that they allow either domestically or in Europe. It’s something that speaks to their overall level, but also just their simple in-game awareness that continues to backfire right in front of them at the most inopportune times. Yet … they won. They actually did. One win over a club that was also sitting outside of the top 24 doesn’t solve everything, but it’s a start. The first 45 minutes was bad. It was the kind of performance that had you wondering if they could actually turn the scoreline back in their favor. Juve were not only trailing 1-0, but they were being outshot 13-8 and were looking rather devoid of ways to actually solve the hole that they had dug themselves into in the first half. Whatever Spalletti said, just go ahead and bottle that for the rest of the season because it certainly worked. Outside of the game-tying penalty kick — which, you know, didn’t have to happen if Cabal times his tackle attempt correctly — Juventus’ defense was much more of a solid unit compared to the opening 45 minutes. The fact that Juve outshot Bodø/Glimt 15-5 was proof of that — and it also just reflected how much more on the front foot they were as compared to having around 40% of the possession most of the first half. ............ RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS Hey, did you hear it’s cold in Bodø? I think the rumors are true. You know how I know? Because when a manager like Spalletti who loves himself a slick suit on the sidelines instead goes for the beanie and big puffer jacket, then you know it’s cold. (Or well below freezing in this case.) Plus, this man managed in Russia for a few years, so he is already well-versed in cold-weather fixtures. ............ Breaking news: Kenan Yildiz is really freakin’ good. Somebody pray for Fredrik Sjøvold, Bodø/Glimt’s right back. He might be seeing Yildiz in his nightmares in a few hours. Even if Yildiz is somebody who desperately needs a rest, that performance off the bench wholeheartedly deserved the Man of the Match award. That young man was the biggest reason why Juve flipped things in their favor after such a dour first half. He actually gave them a presence on the left wing — and then some. ............ McKennie sure did get up for that header, didn’t he? Good to see him finally get on the end of something because his areal ability feels like something Juventus should utilize more often. Oh, and McKennie was all over the place defensively. Well, outside of maybe not marking the back post on the opening goal. Other than that, the dude racked up defensive stats like no other. Openda scoring goals now? In this economy? Unheardof! Seriously, though, once you saw Openda actually able to play more of his game in the second half as compared to the first, it’s pretty nice to see him actually get on the scoresheet. Same goes for David, who hadn’t scored since Juve’s season-opening win over Parma. Those two guys needed goals so badly. I’m still wondering what Juan Cabal is doing sometimes. It’s like he’s pressing to the max now that he’s back from injury again. Just calm down, my guy. ............ A couple of the blocked shots by Manuel Locatelli were absolutely crucial. Guy has his faults, but he sure doesn’t shy away from putting his body on the line to block a shot. ............ Chico Conceição looked unpleased as he walked off the field right before Bodø/Glimt tied things up. It’s almost like he knew what was coming. (Some of us probably did, too.) They finally won a game in the Champions League! How about that?! Not pretty. Not perfect by any means. But they showed some fight in the second half. That’s a small bit of progress, but it’s progress nonetheless. I mean, it’s more than we can say about what we saw over the weekend in Florence. (Nobody wants to remember that, but unfortunately we have no other choice.) . Socrates 9433 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 139169 messaggi Inviato Mercoledì alle 09:06 Juventus turn the game on a dime against Bodø-Glimt, but need some magic to get the win As they began the second half of the UEFA Champions League’s League Phase, Juventus knew that a victory was vital. Three points in four games left them out of the playoff spots, and their next two fixtures, against Bodø-Glimt and Pafos, were must-wins to accumulate as many points as possible before ending the schedule with Benfica (cursed) and Monaco (tricky). But going to Bodø to face the reigning Norwegian champions, who have two more matchdays domestically to try to overcome a one-point deficit against Viking for the Eliteserien title, is not an easy task. The team is plucky and well coached, and the artificial pitch can be tricky to play on. Oh, and did we mention it was late-November in Scandinavia? The temperature at the Aspmyra Stadion in Bodø hovered around freezing, with the wind chill dipping underneath. The snow pregame was so bad that Damien Comolli and Giorgio Chiellini got stuck in Sweden as they tried to fly to the game. It was piled up around the pitch, and more of the white stuff came down as the game went on. Not ideal conditions, especially not for a must-win game for a team whose form has been lackluster. ............ They left the field to the remonstrations of the Juve fans that had braved the trip north. But in the locker room Luciano Spalletti must have said something that truly lit a fire under the players’ backsides. That, and he introduced Kenan Yildiz from the bench, completely turning the game on its head and helping turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead within 15 minutes. They came agonizingly close to putting the game away as time ticked down, but they couldn’t get that third goal, and when Juan Cabal planted his cleats into Sondre Auklend’s shin in the penalty area three minutes from time, it looked like Juventus had thrown away another win. But just as the clock ticked into stoppage time, Yildiz went on another marauding run, and when his shot was saved, Jonathan David was there for the rebound, giving the Bianconeri another late result in this year’s Champions League and, at long last, their first win in Europe this year. ............ Consternation was the emotion of the moment as the teams went back into the locker room, Juve having been soundly outplayed in the first 45 minutes. When they emerged, Yildiz replaced Adzic, and within three minutes he’d helped Juve get level. After playing a give-and-go with Locatelli on the left, he sent a pass in for Miretti. Miretti was blatantly tripped in the box, but Dutch referee Danny Makkelie waved off Juve’s penalty appeals. Locatelli, playing until the whistle, chased after the loose ball and laid it back to Yildiz, whose shot was deflected into the path of Openda, who gladly tapped in his first goal in a Juventus shirt. ............ But if he couldn’t have his goal, he would settle for an assist. Yildiz’s dribbling was again key, shaking defenders before putting Miretti down the left side of the box in all kinds of space. He took his time to float an excellent ball to McKennie, who soared to fire a powerful header down and through Haiken’s hand to put Juve in front. ............ But with five minutes to go, Cabal made his boneheaded mistake, coming in late and hard on Auklend for an easy penalty call. For a moment it looked like Juve were going to get a reprieve when the kick was held for a VAR check to see if Mathias Jørgensen had been offside in the buildup, and replays looked like he was, but evidently not enough for the VAR, who confirmed the penalty. Fet stepped up to it and stroked it right down the middle, as Perin dove to the left. All the good Juve had done had come tumbling down in an instant. But it turned out there was one last column holding things together. Of course, Yildiz was at the heart of things. Taking a long ball from Locatelli, he once again tortured Sjøvold, who for a moment thought he’d tackled the ball off him in the box, but Yildiz pried it off his leg, got clear, and fired on goal. The ball took a deflection off Moe and was met with another diving, one-handed parry by Haiken—but he only pushed it a few feet, and David needed only two steps to beat Bjørkan to the ball and side-foot it into the net to resuscitate Juve’s Champions League campaign. The Canadian nearly had a second less than two minutes later when Yildiz (who else?) got to the byline and sent in another cross. Haiken was overcommitted to Yildiz and David got the ball with the goal gaping, but a desperate lunge by Bjørtuft cleared the ball off the line. Makkelie didn’t add any time to the six minute minimum of added time, and Juve escaped what may have been their least pleasant road trip of the year with a vital victory. . The result offers some much-needed momentum for the men in black and white as they look to mount a late push for a place in the European playoffs. It also provides a timely boost heading into their next league fixture, with the triumph in Norway likely to instil confidence throughout the squad as they prepare for the remaining matches of the campaign. ............ Massimo Pavan offered a reflective assessment of the performance. He said, “We saw a game full of contradictions. In the first half, we lost too many balls and made several technical errors. In the second half, however, the team improved, creating numerous chances and executing miracles from the opposing goalkeeper.” His comments highlight the uneven nature of the display, with positive attacking sequences offset by lapses in concentration and execution. ............ Pavan went on to stress the importance of resolving the defensive issues that have repeatedly undermined the team. Adding, “Conceding so much is very dangerous,” he underlined the risks associated with allowing opponents multiple opportunities. Juventus will need to address these concerns if they are to build on this win and maintain hope of progressing further in Europe. ............ . The Old Lady had trailed 1-0 at the interval, but Yildiz, brought off the bench at half-time, came on and was involved in three second half goals to send Juventus on their way to an eventual 3-2 victory. His performance on the night has drawn yet more comparisons to Juventus legend Del Piero, who watched the Bianconeri performance on Tuesday night. ............ Del Piero described the Juventus display as: “Courageous.” “Because it was definitely a difficult game due to the weather conditions, that’s the reality,” he continued. “In addition to the cold and the snow, there’s also the artificial pitch, which they’re not used to, but also the way (Bodo/Glimt) play there. They’re a team that hurts the opposition at home, they’re determined. They don’t do many things, but they do them well and to the max. “Juventus have to show character at a time when they need to show more. It’s essential for them to find a way to turn the season around. The arrival of Spalletti has given them an emotional boost, but you have to back it up on the pitch with big wins. There are games where you have to win, even when you’re not playing well. Tonight was one of those.” ............ “Playing up front, you need quick balls in behind, without making 18 passes in the build-up, so you don’t give your opposition a chance to settle. If they have that desire to put talented players in one-on-one, you have to do it quickly. Having solidity in the defensive phase in the first 30 minutes is important, too. “Juventus still don’t have a clear starting line-up. When you see that Vlahovic, Yildiz and Thuram were left out, it was definitely a sign of confidence in those who are playing less. “There are small signs. It was important to win tonight. With how the game went, and with a swing of luck, Juve could have been further behind in the first half and could have lost ie before scoring the goal for 3-2. Winning is an important sign, because the points are arriving, but it’s also important for morale, and we need some of that right now.” ............ “Yildiz brought panache, dangerousness, he always felt like a threat, which is a position Juventus need to put other teams in more and hadn’t shown it in the first half. He did the reverse, bringing the feeling that the opposition could concede goals at any moment. . The Bianconeri currently occupy 21st place in the Champions League table ahead of Wednesday’s round of fixtures. They have picked up six points from their first five matches in the competitions this season, with one win, three draws and one loss on their record. ............ Last season, 11 points and a goal difference of -4 was enough to secure a spot in the top 24 in the Champions League table. It is likely to be a similar scenario this time around as well, which means that Juventus effectively require two wins from their next three matches in the Champions League to secure a spot in the play-off round. They will play at home against Pafos next, then at home against Benfica on January 21 and then away against Monaco on January 28. If Juventus manage to win all three of their remaining Champions League league phase fixtures, they will end up on 15 points, which was not quite enough to secure a top eight finish last season. The result marked an important turning point for a side that has struggled to find consistency since the start of the campaign. Despite their difficulties, the Bianconeri have continued to apply themselves with determination as they search for improvement. Travelling to Norway, they recognised that they had a genuine opportunity to collect valuable points, particularly as several teams had already managed to do so against Bodo. Even so, the hosts are known for being a challenging opponent capable of unsettling any visiting side, which meant Juventus needed to approach the match with caution and avoid any sense of complacency. ............ The men in black and white ultimately prevailed in a contest where goals appeared likely throughout. Their attacking intent was evident, yet it was the second half that proved decisive. After a first half in which they created opportunities without fully asserting control, Juventus returned to the pitch with greater clarity, organisation and conviction. This renewed approach allowed them to take command of the match and secure the result that had eluded them in previous European outings. ............ Fabio Capello highlighted the importance of the improvement after the interval. He said, “They are definitely a more relaxed team after this win. The men in black and white worked tirelessly to achieve the result their supporters had been waiting for, and the win delivered their first European success of the season. Luciano Spalletti continues his efforts to guide the team towards greater stability and improved performances, although he faces a demanding period as the Bianconeri’s third manager of 2025. Juventus urgently need consistency, and Spalletti remains under pressure to deliver progress in both results and performances. ............ Openda is among the club’s new arrivals, and Spalletti placed his confidence in the Belgian by naming him in the starting line-up for the match in Norway. The forward justified that decision by scoring one of the goals, demonstrating his willingness to contribute despite a challenging start to life in Turin. The match nevertheless proved far from straightforward, as Juventus were pushed to the brink of a draw before a late strike ensured all three points for the visitors. The result offered relief as well as optimism, with Openda’s breakthrough serving as a positive sign for the club at a time when consistency is urgently required. ............ After the match, Openda spoke about his performance and the significance of the win. He said, “I am happy with my first goal, but the key thing was the win. We did it together.” He added, “It was not easy because I was not scoring, but I am happy with the support of the club and my family. It was not easy, I know I am at one of the top teams and I know what I have to do, and today I think I proved it. I am ready for any opportunity I get to play. Today I got it, and I scored. Both teams entered the fixture eager to claim their first win of the league stage, creating a competitive and tense encounter from the outset. Bodo took the lead shortly before the half-hour mark, placing Juventus under pressure and further testing a squad that has struggled with confidence in recent months. Going behind was a setback for the Bianconeri, yet they responded with resilience and eventually forced a late winner to claim all three points. ............ Juventus’ first-half performance left room for improvement, and Spalletti’s tactical decisions at halftime were pivotal in turning the game in their favour. The adjustments allowed the men in black and white to regain control, exploit spaces, and increase their attacking threat. Bodo were unable to respond effectively to the changes, highlighting the impact of Juventus’ experience and squad quality. While the result will have pleased Spalletti, it was a frustrating evening for Knutsen. ............ Knutsen admitted the superiority of Juventus in the latter stages of the match. It was anything but a clean game for the Bianconeri, and it looked as if they were in for another disappointing night after gifting Bodø a late penalty, but Jonathan David’s stoppage-time winner sealed them three badly-needed points. ............ MATTIA PERIN - 5.5. ............ PIERRE KALULU - 6. ............ LLOYD KELLY - 6. ............ TEUN KOOPMEINERS - 6. Blocked two shots and had five clearances, although there were a few times that he pinched too far inside and let a runner free down his flank. Made a couple of good passes in the second half that contributed to the team’s strongest period. WESTON McKENNIE - 6.5. The goal was obviously a highlight, and he also worked as a provider, making three key passes. Defensively, he made a game-high five tackles and was part of the five-clearance triad in the back. Did a whole lot to keep Juve on the front foot in the second half, but his grade is dragged down by the fact that he missed on a full third of his pass attempts. VASILIJE ADZIC - 5. Didn’t quite click out there today. Rushed a few passages of play, especially that knee-volley, when he had a lot more time than he thought to bring the ball under control. He’s got oodles of talent, but still needs a lot of refinement. MANUEL LOCATELLI - 7. Talk about being everywhere. The captain had three key passes and blocked three shots, producing a ton on either end. Was able to put more of a stamp on the game when Juve were on the rampage in the second half. ANDREA CAMBIASO - 5. ............ FRANCISCO CONCEIÇÃO - 7. The only Juve player who did anything worth a damn in the first half, he could’ve scored a brace before the half despite the struggles of the rest of the team around him. Kenan Yildiz took over more in the second, but he still pushed the game on his side as well, finishing with the team lead in key passes (4), and had more dribbles than anyone in the starting XI (also 4). He missed out on the scoresheet more because of Nikita Haiken than anything else. FABIO MIRETTI - 6.5. Nominally an attacking midfielder in the first half, he looked far more dangerous making runs from deeper in midfield when he dropped back to make way for Yildiz at halftime. He was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet when Openda’s offside negated his goal, but he took it in stride and immediately combined with Yildiz again, this time to set himself up for the assist on McKennie’s goal. He also made three tackles—although he was a little reckless in getting booked early in the second half. If Miretti can establish himself as legitimate depth to Locatelli and Khéphren Thuram in the double pivot, it would open up a lot more options for rotation and tactical tweaks. LOÏS OPENDA - 6.5. Juve’s general malaise in the first half prevented him from being able to do his thing, but he came alive in the second. Juve were able to get some passes through to him so he could push the defense with pace, and he was well-positioned to take the deflected ball by Yildiz and fire it home. He had two key passes himself, too. Here’s hoping that goal starts getting him right mentally and builds him some momentum. SUBS KENAN YILDIZ - 8. I mean, come on. Yildiz took the game, turned it over, and shook it till its change came out of its pockets. He racked up five dribbles in just 45 minutes plus stoppage time, and it was clear Bodø didn’t have a defender who could contain him. Every time he faced up a player in yellow it looked like a video game, getting through them with almost contemptuous ease. He put three of four shots on target and was a major player in all three goals. The first and third came on ricochets from his shots, and his pass to Miretti sprung him for the assist on the second. He even shone on Miretti’s disallowed goal, being completely unselfish to square the ball to his onrushing teammate. KHÈPHREN THURAM - 6. ............ JUAN CABAL - 5. And the Alex Sandro Memorial Award for Boneheaded Defensive Mistakes goes to….Juan Cabal! I have no idea what he was doing on the tackle that led to the penalty—he did everything except what he had to do. His defense in general wasn’t more than a modest upgrade over what Cambiaso had been doing. He did make a critical block that kept the score tied in the 90th minute, but so much had gone wrong for him before that. JONATHAN DAVID - 6.5. Another excellent position to follow up a shot and wham it into the net, this one for the winner. With all the criticism and even transfer rumors swirling around this this had to feel good. Like Openda, the hope is that this will finally get him going a little instead of having to rely on Dusan Vlahovic. EDON ZHEGROVA - NR. ............ MANAGER ANALYSIS Spalletti followed through on his promise for rotation, making five changes from Saturday’s draw against Fiorentina. Miretti was a welcome change, and has hopefully earned himself some playing time, though it’s clear Adzic isn’t ready to grab the bar with both hands yet. Using Openda and eventually David saw them both hit the score sheet, and now Spalletti is going to have to take advantage of their momentum and keep it going. But it was Spalletti’s halftime choices that really won this game. Whatever he said inside is anyone’s guess—although one wonders why he didn’t pull this stuff out with the national team—it had the intended effect, as the entire team looked more sprightly and energetic. His insertion of Yildiz—who did need a rest after a grueling month of fixtures—was the clear turning point, though. This is another momentum moment for Yildiz, who had been scuffling a little of late, and needs to re-find his form. It was also, frankly, smart not to send on Dusan Vlahovic, as he had been taking a physical beating as well over the last month. ............ . Socrates 9433 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 139169 messaggi Inviato Mercoledì alle 21:50 Vignola says the win against Bodo/Glimt will hand Juventus more confidence Juventus earned their first Champions League win of the season with a victory over Bodo/Glimt last night, a result that provides an important boost for the men in black and white. The team have continued to show that they can compete among Europe’s strongest sides when operating at their best, and maintaining that level consistently remains a key priority for manager Luciano Spalletti. The club see Spalletti as the ideal figure to lead them forward and expects him to deliver results promptly to secure his long-term tenure. ............ The manager’s main responsibility is to ensure the squad performs at peak level on a regular basis, drawing the best from his players in every fixture. Juventus’ leadership believe he can elevate the team to a higher standard, but immediate results are crucial for establishing stability and influence within the club. The win in Norway will reassure Spalletti as he prepares the squad for forthcoming matches, reinforcing both confidence and tactical belief. ............ Former Juventus star Beniamino Vignola has highlighted the significance of the result, emphasising its role in boosting morale ahead of upcoming fixtures. He said, “The victory shouldn’t be a finish line, but a new beginning. This confidence boost was needed, now Juve will have to build on it. A signal like this was needed, especially from these players, who aren’t exceptional but can still contribute something important. It’s still a good squad,” ............ . Socrates 9433 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 139169 messaggi Inviato ieri alle 17:00 Journalist says it is not just Yildiz who helped Juventus beat Bodo/Glimt Kenan Yildiz was benched for Juventus’ Champions League match against Bodo/Glimt last night, but his introduction proved decisive in helping the Bianconeri secure a 3-2 victory on a challenging pitch. Once on the field, Yildiz made an immediate impact, and his presence contributed to a significant improvement in Juventus’ performance, allowing them to dominate their hosts during key periods of the game. The Turkiye star continues to demonstrate that he is a dependable player capable of influencing results at the highest level. ............ Juventus are keen for Yildiz to remain with the club for the long term, recognising his potential to play a central role in their future success. His ability to change the dynamics of a match underscores his value, but the team’s management also acknowledges the importance of collective effort. The men in black and white view him as a talent who could be instrumental in taking the squad to the next level, but they remain mindful that football is a team game in which contributions come from multiple players. ............ While Yildiz’s impact was clear, former journalist Giovanni Capuano has emphasised that credit for the win should not rest solely on the youngster’s shoulders. He said, “The report will say that Yildiz’s introduction changed the game, but that’s not necessarily the only key. Openda scored his first goal for Juventus, David, the other missing player, a rising performance from Miretti, and, above all, a show of character that hadn’t been seen even after Spalletti’s arrival at Continassa.” ............ . Socrates 9433 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 139169 messaggi Inviato ieri alle 17:46 Sigh of relief for Juventus as Spalletti’s favourite overcomes injury scare Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic will be in contention for a starting role this weekend after avoiding an injury. The Serbian has been the undisputed first choice in attack since the appointment of Luciano Spalletti at the end of October. ............ Vlahovic, who was already set to be rested, suffered a muscle strain during the pre-match warm-up in Norway. Therefore, Spalletti and his technical staff opted against playing him as a precautionary measure. But according to several sources in the Italian media, Juventus can now breathe a sigh of relief, as the centre-forward has been cleared of any injuries. Therefore, the source expects the former Fiorentina star to recover in time for Saturday’s home contest against Cagliari. Vlahovic will be vying for a starting role against Lois Openda and Jonathan David, who both managed to end their goal droughts on Tuesday. ............ With Vlahovic ready and raring to go, Spalletti will have a selection dilemma to resolve, especially since Openda and David have reconciled with the net. Nevertheless, this is the sort of headache that every manager relishes. ............ . Socrates 9433 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 139169 messaggi Inviato ieri alle 18:14 Juventus vs Cagliari - prediction, team news, lineups After dramatically gaining their first European win of the season, Juventus will try to boost a flagging Serie A campaign on Saturday, when they welcome Cagliari to Turin. Juve's last-gasp Champions League victory relieved a little pressure in midweek; meanwhile, their Sardinian counterparts are amid a familiar scrap for survival. Match preview Still seeking their first victory in this season's Champions League, both Bodo/Glimt and Juventus sat among the elimination places ahead of Tuesday's encounter in northern Norway. Two of Juve's misfiring strikers started out on the path to redemption, as Lois Openda and stoppage-time matchwinner Jonathan David both scored during a dramatic second half, and the Bianconeri ultimately won 3-2. Now occupying a playoff place - with three rounds remaining - their continental prospects look somewhat more sunny, but new boss Luciano Spalletti still has plenty of ground to recover in Serie A. Last weekend, his team were held to a disappointing draw by rock-bottom Fiorentina, as any dreams of a Scudetto challenge grew ever more distant. It was a familiar story for fans of Italy's most successful club: since the start of last season, Juventus have drawn more matches than anyone across Europe's top five leagues (21 of 50). Languishing down in seventh place, a tally of 20 points is their third-worst at this stage of any campaign so far this century, while 15 goals is the worst haul since 1999. ............ Juventus Serie A form: L L W W D D Juventus form (all competitions): W W D D D W Cagliari Serie A form: L D L L D D Team News After making several changes in midweek, Spalletti should recall established starters such as Khephren Thuram and Kenan Yildiz on Saturday. Only defensive duo Bremer and Daniele Rugani are set to miss out through injury, in addition to long-term absentee Arkadiusz Milik. Benched against Bodo/Glimt, Dusan Vlahovic will hope to start against his favourite opponents: he has scored eight goals in 11 Serie A meetings with Cagliari. While Vlahovic must vie with Openda and David to spearhead Juve's front line, Borrelli's brace against Genoa should be enough to lead the visitors' attack. Fellow forward Andrea Belotti is sidelined with a serious knee injury; Ze Pedro and Luca Mazzitelli are also in the Rossoblu's treatment room. Having picked up a knock last week, Colombian defender Yerry Mina is a serious doubt, so Adam Obert may have to fill in at centre-back. Juventus possible starting lineup: Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Kelly, Koopmeiners; Cambiaso, Locatelli, Thuram, Kostic; McKennie, Yildiz; Vlahovic Cagliari possible starting lineup: Caprile; Zappa, Luperto, Obert; Palestra, Deiola, Prati, Folorunsho, Felici; Esposito, Borrelli We say: Juventus 1-0 Cagliari It may not be pretty, but Juventus should beat one of their favourite opponents in Turin. Though the Bianconeri are still finding their feet under new management, Cagliari rarely travel well and have won just once on the mainland this season. . Socrates 9433 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 139169 messaggi Inviato 22 ore fa Balzarini names Juventus player who sent a good message against Bodo/Glimt Fabio Miretti returned to the Juventus starting lineup for their match against Bodo Glimt as Luciano Spalletti introduced several changes to his team for the fixture. The Bianconeri entered the match needing a victory, prompting the manager to adjust aspects of the team’s setup in an effort to secure an essential result. Their opponents were also searching for their maiden win in the league phase of the Champions League, creating a contest in which both sides were under pressure to deliver. ............ In the freezing conditions of Norway, Juventus managed to secure the win at a moment when it appeared their winless run in Europe might be extended. One of the standout performers on the night was Miretti, who offered a timely reminder of the quality he brings to the side. The midfielder has endured a difficult campaign after sustaining an injury during pre-season, which has limited his involvement for much of the term. His return, however, could prove significant as Juventus attempts to turn their season around and regain momentum in their European campaign. Miretti’s performance demonstrated composure, awareness, and confidence, qualities that could become increasingly important as the club navigates a demanding schedule. ............ Speaking after the match, Gianni Balzarini offered his assessment stating, “The other positive note that really came out of Bodo, and also from a qualitative standpoint in terms of movement, touch, etc., was Miretti’s performance. It showed that Miretti can play with Locatelli, who sets up Miretti when he does. Locatelli plays as a midfielder, and Miretti yesterday gave the impression that he can continue to play in that position, especially that he can continue to play.” ............ . Socrates 9433 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 139169 messaggi Inviato 9 ore fa Juventus set a new positive record in their win against Bodo/Glimt Juventus produced an encouraging performance in their Champions League match against Bodo Glimt, and in doing so, they set a new record in the competition. The Bianconeri have endured a difficult season, already working under their second manager of the campaign, but this fixture offered signs that the team may finally be moving in a more positive direction. Luciano Spalletti has been tasked with guiding the men in black and white away from the habits that have hindered them in recent years. While the process has not been straightforward and the side has often slipped back into patterns that have brought limited success, the manager’s experience is proving valuable as he attempts to restore clarity and structure to their play. ............ Spalletti understands the importance of ensuring that Juventus regain stability, discipline, and confidence. He knows that the team require consistent improvement to reach the level expected of them, and he continues to work towards that objective. Against the Norwegian side, Juventus displayed several encouraging traits that suggested the players are beginning to respond to the demands placed upon them. Although the final scoreline of 3-2 might lead some to think that the contest was balanced, those who watched the match closely would have noticed the strides made by Juventus in terms of intent, pressing, and attacking purpose. ............ Despite the close score, Juventus produced an extraordinary attacking effort. The team registered 16 shots on target, the highest number recorded by any side in a single Champions League match. This remarkable statistic highlights the extent of their dominance in front of goal and reflects a level of creativity and efficiency that had been lacking for much of the season. The record provides clear evidence that Juventus deserved the victory and that their overall performance was stronger than the score alone suggests. ............ .
