Bremer opens up on Monaco draw: “Spalletti is always right, I’m exhausted”

Monaco-Juventus 0-0, bianconeri ai play-off di Champions Agenzia di stampa Italpress - Italpress

Juventus defender Gleison Bremer admitted that his manager, Luciano Spalletti, was accurate in his critical description of the team’s performance against Monaco.

The Bianconeri needed to beat the Ligue 1 side on the final matchday of the Champions League group stage to stand a chance at booking a direct place in the Round of 16. In hindsight, even three points wouldn’t have been sufficient. ............

“We wanted to win, but there was a bit of fatigue, and we couldn’t manage it,” said the Brazilian in his post-match interview.

“We made some rotation, which made sense — it was a game where we could do that. We move on and focus on the match against Parma, which is one we have to win.

“When the coach speaks, he’s always right. There was mental fatigue too, and we made mistakes we don’t usually make. You could see it today, but we have to keep going.” ............

“I feel a bit exhausted. Since coming back from my second injury, I’ve played every match, I haven’t been able to get a game off yet, but I’m feeling good.

“I’m working well, I just need to be careful with recovery in training. I hope to keep it up because from now on every match is important and I can’t afford to miss any.” ............

Del Piero & Di Canio disagree on Yildiz choice: “Juve can’t afford it”

Monaco-Juventus 0-0, bianconeri ai play-off di Champions

Juventus star Kenan Yildiz started on the bench against Monaco in a decision that sparked a debate among fans and pundits.

The Bianconeri settled for a draw in the French principality on the final matchday of the Champions League, with neither side able to break the deadlock. ............

For his part, Alessandro Del Piero agreed with the choices made by the Juventus manager, reckoning the importance of keeping Yildiz fresh ahead of the upcoming fixtures.

“Leaving Yildiz out? I think it’s a smart move. I read it as giving those on the fringes the chance to get minutes and prove themselves in a Champions League match,” argued the iconic Juventus captain during his post-match appearance.

“Tonight’s game is important to finish as a seeded team, so you rest your most important creative player, Yildiz, who needs to be at peak physical condition to produce that burst.

“It’s about giving the right weight to this qualification: beyond whether you’re seeded or not, regardless of playing the first leg at home or away, the mindset is ‘we go out there to take on anyone’.

“He’s trying to build a team that’s strong whatever happens. You end up with a happier squad after the match if everyone performs well: you satisfy those who haven’t played, and those in the starting XI will accept it for a while longer.” ............

ormer West Ham and Lazio striker Paolo Di Canio argued that the Juventus head coach should have fielded his strongest lineup.

“Juventus can’t afford these kinds of choices,” said the former Sunderland manager, who was also present in the Sky studios.

“When you face teams in Europe, even if they’re struggling, they have more power and stamina than you. Monaco have players who will hurt you in space. Right now, Juventus can’t afford to leave out certain key players: Locatelli’s passing patterns, Yildiz’s bursts.

“Sometimes you have to do it out of necessity, but it should be in a moment of growth, when everyone has improved. You can’t afford these choices because Thuram can’t do what Locatelli does — you lose tempo and it becomes a different Juventus.

“And the opponent you’re facing isn’t one of the thirteen teams below you in Serie A, it’s Monaco.” ............

Champions League play-off draw: Juventus to play Galatasaray

Juventus-before-Benfica-game.jpg

Juventus have been pitted against Galatasaray in the Champions League play-off following Friday’s draw in Nyon.

The Bianconeri finished the group stage in 13th place. They began their campaign with a dramatic 4-4 draw at home against Borussia Dortmund, before dropping points in Villarreal. ............

Juventus had to wait until the fifth matchday to earn their first win of the campaign, thanks to Jonathan David’s last-gasp winner in Bodo. They then beat Pafos and Benfica at home, before sharing the spoils in Monaco on the final day of the group stage.

The Serie A giants’ 13th spot meant that their next opponent will either be 19th-placed Club Brugge or 20th-placed Galatasaray.

In the end, the draw decided the Old Lady’s fate, and the Italians are set to play the Turkish giants, who have Victor Osimhen leading their line. ............

The first leg of the Champions League play-off will take place on February 17/18, while the return fixtures will be held a week later. Thanks to their seeded rank, Juventus will host the decisive leg at home. ............

Chiellini paralajmëron Juventusin për duelin me Galatasaray - Korrekt Press

Juventus director Giorgio Chiellini says the Bianconeri have ‘great respect’ for their Champions League play-off opponent Galatasaray, but insists the Serie A giants were ‘never’ close to signing Osimhen.

Juventus have been drawn against Turkish giants Galatasaray in the Champions League knockout play-off. ............

“It’s a strong team with great players. We’ll play the second leg at home, so it won’t end in Istanbul, but we’ll have to be good at going to that stadium to play our game and exploit their weaknesses and limit the big potential and individual players, not just in attack,” Chiellini said from Nyon after the draw.

“We all know Osimhen, but they are strong in other departments too.” ............

Back in 2013, Chiellini was on the pitch and Antonio Conte on the bench when Juventus lost a group stage game against Galatasaray, facing elimination from the Champions League group phase.

It had been postponed by one day due to heavy snow in Istanbul, but when it was played, the pitch’s condition was far from ideal.

“We lost it on the pitch, and I even made the decisive mistake, regardless of the snow and the pitch,” Chiellini said.

“Now we are two different teams. We must respect their quality, because they have quality players in all departments, but we must also be aware of our skills and put in an important performance. It will go down to details, like every knockout game, we’ll have to be mature to play in Istanbul and confirm ithttps://football-italia.net/chiellini-juventus-respect-galatasaray-osimhen/ the following week.”

A reporter asked Chiellini if he would have liked to play up against Osimhen on the field.

“Right now, I couldn’t cope,” he replied, smiling. ............

“Galatasaray have many important players, some of whom have played in Serie A too. Turkish teams are making investments, and there’s great respect for a storied club like Galatasaray. It’s a fascinating challenge, it will be a tough game, but also an important test for us. We still have all to play for in Serie A, Champions League and Coppa Italia. We have some interesting weeks ahead.”

Have Juventus ever been close to signing Osimhen before he moved to Galatasaray from Napoli?

“If you mean that a club likes Osimhen, I think it’s true for all the teams, especially in Italy,” Chiellini concluded.

“But realistically, there’s never been anything more than this.”

Napoli, tra Osimhen e Spalletti torna la pace: i tifosi applaudono

The upcoming Champions League meetings between Juventus and Galatasaray will mark a reunion between Luciano Spalletti and Victor Osimhen, who won the Serie A title at Napoli in 2022-23. ............

Less than three years ago, the pair won a historic Serie A title at Napoli, the first one in 33 years for the Partenopei.

Osimhen greatly contributed to Napoli’s milestone with 26 goals that made him the Serie A’s Capocannoniere for 2022-23. ............

Overall, Osimhen scored 49 goals and provided 12 assists in 71 appearances under Spalletti at the Stadio Maradona.

The Nigerian forward netted five times in six Champions League games at Napoli under the Italian tactician, plus four in the 2021-22 Europa League and 40 across two Serie A campaigns. ............

Only one Juventus regular starter could be rested in Parma

Gleison Bremer in action

Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti could opt to drop Gleison Bremer from his starting lineup against Parma on Sunday. ............

Kenan Yildiz, Manuel Locatelli, Andrea Cambiaso, and Michele Di Gregorio are all expected to regain their usual starting spots this weekend in Parma, as Spalletti will be keen to field his strongest possible lineup, but perhaps with one exception.

Bremer could be granted some well-deserved rest on Sunday.

This has been a challenging campaign for the 28-year-old, who returned from a 10-month layoff in the summer, only to sustain a meniscus injury that required another surgery............

After the midweek contest in Monaco, the defender admitted he’s feeling a bit exhausted, and he’s also making sure to carefully manage his workload in training to avoid another setback.

While the omnipresent Pierre Kalulu and Lloyd Kelly are expected to start yet again at the Ennio Tardini, Spalletti could consider this league contest the right opportunity to give Bremer a breather.

Moreover, Gatti has been eagerly awaiting his chance to start a match since recovering from his meniscus surgery. ............
