UEFA Champions League Preview: Juventus vs Galatasaray – Team News, Lineups & Prediction

Prediksi Skor dan Line Up Juventus vs Galatasaray Leg 2 UCL: Agregat 2-5, Akankah Ada Miracle of Turin? - Pikiran Rakyat Jatim

Teun Koopmeiners’ first-half brace was in vain as Galatasaray seized the numerical advantage to hammer Juventus in the first leg at Rams Park. Juan Cabal’s second-half sending off made the Turkish side’s life a lot easier while intensifying the pressure on the Turin giants ahead of the second leg.

Unable to recover from the Istanbul heartbreak, Juventus suffered a dismal 2-0 home loss to Como last weekend, losing further ground in the race for the Serie A top four. Indeed, Luciano Spalletti’s men are now trailing fourth-placed Roma by four points, with their hopes of dining at Europe’s top table next season at serious risk. ............

Match Preview

Juventus

Overcoming a three-goal deficit doesn’t feel doable from the home fans’ perspective, given that Juventus head into proceedings amid a rough patch. Spalletti’s charges have lost four of their last five outings across all competitions, barring a last-gasp 2-2 home draw against Lazio in Serie A. That result ominously forms part of Juve’s two-game winless home streak (D1, L1).

Saturday’s failure against Como plunged their domestic ambitions into a complete disarray. However, Juventus must park those concerns for now if they’re to pull off an epic comeback or at least salvage some pride here. Encouragingly for the Bianconeri faithful, Spalletti’s men have gone unbeaten in their last five home matches in the Champions League (W3, D2).

Adding to Juve’s optimism, they’ve won their last two European home fixtures without conceding, which could be a recipe for success in this pivotal showdown. Still, it’s worth noting that Juventus have netted three or more goals in only two of their last 12 competitive home games, which is the bare minimum required to take this tie into extra time. ............

Team News

In addition to the suspended Cabal, Juventus will also be without versatile wingback Andrea Cambiaso, who must serve a yellow-card ban. Moreover, this encounter will come too soon for long-term absentees Arkadiusz Milik and Dusan Vlahovic, with Emil Holm still recovering from a foot injury. On a more positive note, Spalletti will be able to call upon his defensive cornerstone, Gleison Bremer, for this season-defining fixture. ............

Juventus vs Galatasaray Potential Starting Lineups

Juventus (3-4-2-1): Perin; Gatti, Bremer, Kelly; McKennie, Locatelli, Thuram, Kostic; Conceicao, Yildiz; David.

Galatasaray (4-2-3-1): Cakir; Sallai, Bardakci, Sanchez, Jakobs; Torreira, Lemina; Yilmaz, Sara, Lang; Osimhen.

Juventus vs Galatasaray Prediction

Expecting Juventus to overhaul such a significant deficit against a team of Galatasaray’s caliber would be utopian. However, the hosts seem like decent value to enact revenge for the first-leg fiasco and at least soften the blow of what feels like a near-certain elimination.

Prediction: Juventus to Win (Galatasaray to Progress)

Juventus staged a heroic comeback after Lloyd Kelly’s red card to force Galatasaray into extra time 3-0 on the night, but Victor Osimhen sealed their Champions League exit 5-7 on aggregate.

The Bianconeri had a very slim chance of qualifying after the 5-2 first leg defeat in Istanbul, where they had been leading 2-1 until collapsing with Juan Cabal’s red card. ............

Their capitulation in the first leg was part of a general crisis for Juve, who had one draw in the last five competitive games going into this clash, going out of the Coppa Italia quarter-final and sliding to fifth in Serie A.

There were two big early chances, as Federico Gatti and Teun Koopmeiners couldn’t keep their headers down from six yards, but Mattia Perin made a great save on Osimhen’s volley from a flicked-on throw-in. The goalkeeper stepped in after a series of damaging Michele Di Gregorio howlers. ............

Davinson Sanchez also made an error to spark the Juve attack that resulted in a clumsy Torreira sliding tackle through the back of Khephren Thuram inside the area. Manuel Locatelli converted the penalty to get the Old Lady back in this tie at 3-5 on aggregate.

Juventus went a man down in Istanbul and it happened again in Turin, albeit in bizarre circumstances. Kelly landed awkwardly and on top of Baris Alper Yilmaz’s calf, so the referee awarded a second yellow card. As the defender was arguing he hadn’t done it on purpose, the referee was called over for the VAR review and changed it to a straight red card instead.

Gatti also nodded over again, but finally got a finish on target when he tapped in at the back post on a Pierre Kalulu low cross from the right, making it 4-5 on aggregate.

It was only a warning, as an Edon Zhegrova free kick was knocked down by Koopmeiners for the McKennie header at the far post to make it 3-0 on the night, 5-5 on aggregate.

The teams could not be separated and it went to extra time, despite the Bianconeri being down to 10 men since the 48th minute.

Juve continued to attack and should’ve scored a fourth when Boga rolled across from the left, but McKennie laid it off for Zhegrova to bend horribly wide from 12 yards.

Eren Elmali came sliding in at the far post, just unable to connect with the Leroy Sane cross, but Galatasaray did restore their advantage on aggregate when Gatti slipped trying to intercept the Baris Alper Yilmaz assist and Osimhen drilled the finish through Perin’s legs at the near post.

Juventus kept pushing even with 10 men for an hour, as Zhegrova’s ferocious strike from a tight angle was palmed away, Filip Kostic slipping to fire the rebound wide, then Boga fired a couple of efforts off target.

In the final moments, an inspired Wilfried Singo through ball saw both Osimhen and Baris Alper Yilmaz spring the offside trap, the latter beating on-rushing Perin for Galatasaray to qualify 7-5 on aggregate.

There was still applause from the crowd, who appreciated the extraordinary effort made.

Sunday evening’s clash between Roma and Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico carries enormous weight in the race for Champions League football, and both sides have received welcome fitness news ahead of what promises to be a compelling encounter.

Juventus will be boosted by the return of Gleison Bremer, who is expected to start at the heart of defence alongside Lloyd Kelly.

The Brazilian centre-back’s presence will be a significant lift for Luciano Spalletti, whose side head to Rome looking to close the gap on the top four after a difficult run of results. ............

With Manuel Locatelli suspended, Teun Koopmeiners is the likeliest candidate to fill the midfield void, while Jonathan David is expected to lead the attack once again, supported by Francisco Conceição, Weston McKennie and Kenan Yildiz behind him. ............

For Roma, the headline team news is Paulo Dybala’s return to fitness.

The Argentine forward has trained fully with the group and is available to face his former club, a fixture that always carries personal significance for ‘La Joya’. ............

Roma v Juventus match preview and prediction

Roma-v-Juventus2.jpg

Juventus FC travels to face AS Roma in a pivotal encounter for both clubs, as Roma attempts to move seven points clear of the Bianconeri.

Roma currently occupies fourth place, sitting four points ahead of Juventus, a gap widened after Como’s victory in Turin in the previous round. ............

Having been eliminated from both the Coppa Italia and the Champions League, Juventus must focus entirely on securing a top-four finish. Their sole remaining objective this season is to guarantee qualification for European football next term. While the squad possesses the quality required to achieve this, they cannot afford to fall seven points behind Roma at this stage. Consequently, this match is one they simply cannot lose if they are to maintain realistic ambitions of closing the gap and protecting their prospects of continental football. ............

When these sides last met, Luciano Spalletti was involved, with Juventus securing a 2-1 win in Turin. However, this fixture is expected to be far more demanding. The Old Lady remains unbeaten in their last five meetings with Roma, and it is widely anticipated that this pattern could continue, with a Juventus victory considered more likely than a defeat given their quality, experience, and current motivation.

Prediction

Roma 1-2 Juventus

Preview: Roma vs Juventus - prediction, team news, lineups

PREVIEW | Roma vs Juventus - team news, lineups, predictions

Meeting for a Sunday night showdown at Stadio Olimpico, top-four contenders Roma and Juventus will fight for three precious points this weekend.

Juve have started to falter in Serie A, falling behind the Giallorossi, and they made another early Champions League exit on Wednesday.

Match preview

Sitting four points above fifth-placed Juventus, with Lombardy sides Como and Atalanta BC not far behind, Roma face a fight to secure their seat at Europe's top table. ............

Including a 2-1 victory in December's reverse fixture, Juve have beaten Roma more times than any other opponent in Serie A - and they have lost just one of the last 11 league meetings.

History will be on their side this weekend, but momentum may not, due to a worrying downturn in results.

Following consecutive defeats against Inter Milan and Como, the Bianconeri have won none of their last three league matches, after prevailing in seven of the previous nine; meanwhile, a modest tally of 46 points is their worst at this stage of any campaign since 2011.

Luciano Spalletti's ailing side also slumped out of both the Champions League and Coppa Italia during a February to forget.

Requiring a minor miracle to overturn their 5-2 first-leg deficit, Juve welcomed Turkish giants Galatasaray to Turin on Wednesday, when they finally bowed out of Europe after an enthralling two-hour epic.

Gala frittered away their three-goal lead despite the hosts going down to 10 men just after the break, when Lloyd Kelly was controversially sent off; however, having bravely forced extra time, legs began to tire and Juventus conceded twice to lose 7-5 on aggregate.

Even so, they were applauded off by a previously disgruntled home crowd, so ex-Roma coach Spalletti must hope his team can now turn a corner.

Set for his latest return to the Olimpico, Sunday's Serie A clash will have a lot riding on it for both clubs.

Team News

 ............

Meanwhile, Juve are still missing injured strikers Dusan Vlahovic and Arkadiusz Milik, leaving underperforming pair Jonathan David and Lois Openda to vie for selection up front.

After missing the Bianconeri's last two matches, Bremer could return to action on Sunday, when fellow defender Pierre Kalulu will be available after serving a controversial Serie A ban.

Juan Cabal and Andrea Cambiaso are both back in the fold after UEFA suspensions, but captain Manuel Locatelli must miss out due to accumulated yellow cards.

Roma possible starting lineup:

Svilar; Mancini, Ndicka, Ghilardi; Celik, Cristante, Kone, Wesley; Zaragoza, Pellegrini; Malen

Juventus possible starting lineup:

Perin; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly, Cambiaso; Thuram, Koopmeiners; Conceicao, McKennie, Yildiz; David ............

We say: Roma 1-1 Juventus

Roma are particularly tough to beat - and score against - on home turf, so a Juventus side that played more than an hour with 10 men in midweek may set out to take a point.

That result would suit the Giallorossi, keeping them four points clear of a direct rival, but much can happen between now and the end of May.

Round 27: Roma vs. Juventus match preview

Roma - Juventus, 03/01/2026: prediction, odds and match time | BetMines

With the miracle unable to be pulled off and Juventus no longer in the Champions League, there is now officially one thing and one thing only for Luciano Spalletti to worry about. That one general thing has many layers to it, but in the end there’s just one actual objective for Juve to strive for with 12 games to go in the 2025-26 season.

It’s the same exact thing that we were saying at this point in the calendar last season, too. Only then, Juve went out and started the month of March about as poorly as you could have imagined and it cost the manager his job.

Maybe we can see a little bit better of a start to March this time around?

While the manager’s job and future at Juventus doesn’t seem nearly as tenuous as things were 12 months ago, the fact that Spalletti’s squad sits four points off fourth place and just so happening to be traveling to the stadium in which that club in front of them calls home this weekend is quite the fragile situation. Juventus, who have dropped to sixth with Como’s win on Saturday, make the trip to the Italian capital this weekend to face fourth-place Roma and take advantage of one of the final remaining head-to-head matchups with somebody in front of them in the Serie A standings. It comes all of four days after the Bianconeri nearly pulled off a feat few have in the Champions League, but who knows what kind of cost it came out both on a physical, mental and emotional level.

Juventus could head back home to Turin late Sunday night within touching distance of Roma and down by all of a point. Or, if the worst-case scenario happens, Juve could head home with another loss to their record over the last four or so weeks since the start of February and trail Roma by seven points. ............

I truly have no idea how Juventus will bounce back from what happened against Galatasaray on Wednesday. That was an extreme amount of capital spent when it comes to energy spent and then mental anguish that comes with getting so close to flipping a 5-2 aggregate deficit in your favor only to then see it slip away in extra time. That is about as much of an emotional drain that you can experience over the course of what proved to be 120-plus minutes of game time.

And as we know about this Juventus squad, it’s not like these are the kinds of situations in which they’ve shown they can bounce back quickly from on a consistent basis over the last few years.

But they will have to do it against Roma, the club that has only claimed two Serie A wins — over absolute giants by the name of Cagliari and Cremonese — since the middle of January. Even then, they’ve been able to take advantage of both those in front of them not named Inter Milan and those behind them — namely Juventus — having a complete mixed bag of results (if not worse) that has enabled them to keep hold of their chances of making the top four and qualifying for the Champions League. ............

Regardless of how fatigued physically and mentally Juventus may be, the importance of this one is obvious. If Juventus lose, then the uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League becomes that much steeper. But if they are able to get a win and pull within a point of Roma, then it’s more than just a little interesting with 11 games to go in the season.

We just have to see just how much is left in Juventus’ tank. Which is something that Gasperini is surely curious about just as much as we are.

TEAM NEWS

  • Spalletti didn’t hold a pre-match press conference on Saturday, therefore we don’t know about the status of any players coming off the Champions League decider against Galatasaray earlier in the week.
  • What we do know is that Juventus will be without captain Manuel Locatelli due to his yellow card against Como last weekend. (No comment on the actual merits of the foul that actually “earned” the yellow card.) Teun Koopmeiners is expected to take Locatelli’s place in midfield.
  • After not playing against Como and then in the second leg against Galatasaray, Spalletti is expected to have Gleison Bremer back in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against Roma. That’s a big deal and a much-needed boost for a squad that needs one.
  • Pierre Kalulu will also be available again after being suspended for last weekend’s loss to Como due to his undeserved red card in the Derby d’Italia. ............
    • Mattia Perin is expected to retain his spot in goal for Juventus after starting Wednesday night’s Champions League decider against Galatasaray in place of the struggling Michele Di Gregorio.
    • Weston McKennie is still one yellow card away from having to serve a one-game suspension.

    JUVENTUS PLAYER TO WATCH

We know that Juventus’ midfield is far from a stable unit. But there’s also the fact that they will be without a player on Sunday that has been really, really good since Spalletti has taken over as manager. ............

The anticipated move by Spalletti when it comes to filling the void left by Locatelli being suspended is going to be with Koopmeiners coming into the starting lineup. It comes at a time when Koopmeiners has done well in the last few appearances he’s made, but the catch is that it comes with the context of Spalletti using the Dutch midifelder in a different kind of role as compared to how he’s expected to be used against Roma.

In the two legs against Galatasaray, we got to see Koopmeiners in more of a role like we saw from him during his Atalanta days when he was one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

But on Sunday, Koopmeiners will likely be alongside Khephren Thuram in a double pivot.

What to make of that initially is mixed. At this point, it’s not like Koopmeiners has really excelled in any role with Juventus no matter who the coach has been. ............

So, the overlying question is probably this: Can Koopmeiners do what Locatelli does in midfield?

At this point, who the heck knows. It’s hard to say which Koopmeiners will show up on a game to game basis. Maybe he turns out to fill the void quite well. Maybe it will be more of the same from Koopmeiners — which isn’t exactly an encouraging thing to think about in such an important game. ............
