However, two very similar goals with flick-ons to the back post saw Jeremie Boga and Gatti get Juventus back on level terms in a 3-3 thriller. ............

 

“I was worried that I would be offside, but it really was a very important goal and it keeps us hanging in there,” Gatti said.

 

“There are 11 games to go and we are still in the race. A defeat here would’ve seen Roma go seven points clear, and it really would’ve been difficult then.

 

“It’s not just Roma, though, because Atalanta and Como are in the running too. We’ve got to improve a few things, but we’ve got our character to build on.” ............

 

It is remarkably the second fightback in a few days for the Old Lady, who wiped out a 5-2 first leg deficit to Galatasaray in the Champions League play-off, despite being down to 10 men.

 

They won 3-2 on the night in extra time, eventually exiting the competition.

 

“We are certainly proving that we’ve got heart, soul and character,” added goalkeeper Perin.

 

“If we manage to convert more of our chances when we’re on top, then we wouldn’t need all these comebacks. People can criticise anything about us, but nobody can say we lack character.”

Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti was firmly convinced of his team’s ability to pull off a comeback when his team was trailing Roma by two goals.

Juventus player ratings vs Roma: Spalletti’s subs save the day

 

 

At the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, Juventus rallied back to salvage a draw against their direct Top-Four rivals Roma and thus avoid a defeat that would have blown them away from the Champions League race. ............

The Englishman capped off a forgettable week with a shaky display. Played Malen onside on the third goal, and lost the foot race to the Dutchman.

The Portuguese winger bagged what might just be the best goal of his career thus far, sending an unstoppable rocket towards the top corner on the half-volley.

Similar to his display against Galatasaray, the Turkish star seemed to be the most dangerous player on the pitch, dribbling past his opponents at will, but only lacked the final execution.

Jonathan David – 5.5

The Canadian worked hard and tried to set up his teammates on a few occasions. Nevertheless, strikers are primarily judged based on their goal-threat, and his was almost non-existent.

While it wasn’t his best outing overall, the Ivorian did well to beat Svilar on the volley and restore Juve’s hopes.

Edon Zhegrova – 6.5

The Kosovar looked like a man possessed as he sought redemption for his infamous miss against Galatasaray. Although he didn’t score, his crosses instigated Juve’s second and third goals.

Spalletti: Vlahovic still out, McKennie’s Juventus extension proves one thing

 

 

Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti says Dusan Vlahovic is still unavailable, but hopes to return against Udinese, while Weston McKennie’s contract extension proves the club is preparing for the future ‘properly.’

 

Juventus striker Vlahovic won’t be eligible for Saturday’s Serie A match against Pisa. ............

 

“Not tomorrow, he’s focusing on Udinese,” Spalletti said at a pre-match press conference. ............

Just days after ending this season's Champions League campaign with a brave extra-time exit to Galatasaray, Luciano Spalletti's side played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in Serie A.

Juventus demolish Pisa with second half performance

 

 

Juventus secured an emphatic 4-0 victory over Pisa in Turin this evening, keeping their pursuit of a top-four finish firmly on track.

 

Both teams entered the fixture knowing the importance of collecting points at this stage of the season. ............

 

Despite the final scoreline, the match was far from straightforward during the early stages. Pisa approached the game with determination and defensive discipline, aware that a strong performance was necessary if they were to take anything from the encounter. ............

Juventus took a while to break Pisa down, but eventually ran out 4-0 winners with Andrea Cambiaso, Khephren Thuram, Kenan Yildiz and Jeremie Boga goals to end their negative streak. ............

 

It was Pisa who had a big chance after four minutes, when Stefano Moreo’s glancing header at the near post on an Angori cross forced a tricky save out of Mattia Perin. ............

 

Juventus finally took the lead when Kenan Yildiz was sent down the right by Conceicao and stood up the cross for Cambiaso’s free header at the back post. It was a totally empty net, as Nicolas had been drawn to the near post and was not expecting the cross.

 

They doubled their lead when Weston McKennie won it back on the edge of the area, Locatelli’s angled drive bounced off the far post, allowing Thuram to turn in the rebound from 12 yards. The players rushed over to celebrate with Spalletti on his birthday. ............

 

Yildiz got the third when he gathered from Conceicao on the edge of the area, committed Coppola with a shimmy, and blasted into the far bottom corner. It was his first Serie A goal since mid-January.

Cambiaso’s curler flashed just wide of the far top corner from the edge of the box. With the last kick of the game, Locatelli’s inspired slide-rule pass sent Boga through without breaking his stride to dribble around Nicolas and deposit into an empty net from a tricky angle.
