However, two very similar goals with flick-ons to the back post saw Jeremie Boga and Gatti get Juventus back on level terms in a 3-3 thriller. ............ “I was worried that I would be offside, but it really was a very important goal and it keeps us hanging in there,” Gatti said. “There are 11 games to go and we are still in the race. A defeat here would’ve seen Roma go seven points clear, and it really would’ve been difficult then. “It’s not just Roma, though, because Atalanta and Como are in the running too. We’ve got to improve a few things, but we’ve got our character to build on.” ............ It is remarkably the second fightback in a few days for the Old Lady, who wiped out a 5-2 first leg deficit to Galatasaray in the Champions League play-off, despite being down to 10 men. They won 3-2 on the night in extra time, eventually exiting the competition. “We are certainly proving that we’ve got heart, soul and character,” added goalkeeper Perin. “If we manage to convert more of our chances when we’re on top, then we wouldn’t need all these comebacks. People can criticise anything about us, but nobody can say we lack character.” . Socrates 9995 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 142186 messaggi Inviato Lunedì alle 21:22 Spalletti reveals the scene that made he believe in Juventus comeback against Roma: “Best signal” Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti was firmly convinced of his team’s ability to pull off a comeback when his team was trailing Roma by two goals. Only four days following the heartbreaking Champions League elimination at the hands of Galatasaray, the Bianconeri risked getting blown away from the Top-Four race as they travelled to Rome for a crucial six-pointer. ............ “The mindset was the right one — they earned a draw they deserved,” said the Juventus boss in his post-match interview. “Midway through the first half, the feeling was even better; we had chances we should have taken. In the end, everything becomes real based on how well you’ve prepared physically and mentally. “Yes, we’ve conceded too many goals. But then you’re up against a side like Roma, and the way they press as a unit weighs on you — they absorb, they hammer away constantly and make you work. The three goals we conceded could have been avoided. “We arrived late, or didn’t battle the way we should at key moments when a certain action was required. But after it went 3-1 down, they were demanding the ball — and that’s the best signal a coach can receive.” ............ “In the first half, we won the ball back and looked to break quickly, trying to finish moves as soon as possible. “We misplaced passes that, had we not played so many minutes on Wednesday, we probably would have executed better.” ............ “There’s been a dip in quality. At one stage of the season, I felt the team was ready to take off, then two or three things happened that set us back and knocked some of our certainties. “For a moment, I truly believed I could recreate the enthusiasm we showed against Napoli — that sense of not belonging to one fixed role but everyone contributing quality, feeding off each other. “Instead, we took a step back. Seeing them today wrestle the game back into their own hands shows I’m dealing with outstanding people.” . Juventus XI (3-4-2-1) Mattia Perin – 6 The former Genoa goalkeeper produced two solid saves early in the match. He could do little about the first two goals he conceded, but perhaps his exit on the third goal could have been better. Pierre Kalulu – 6.5 ............ Gleison Bremer – 6. The Brazilian lost track of Malen on one occasion in the first half, and couldn’t block Wesley’s opener. He didn’t appear to be at his best following his return from injury, but he managed to provide the assist for Conceicao’s stunner. Lloyd Kelly – 5.5 The Englishman capped off a forgettable week with a shaky display. Played Malen onside on the third goal, and lost the foot race to the Dutchman. Weston McKennie – 6 ............ Teun Koopmeiners – 5.5 ............ Khephren Thuram – 6.5 ............ Andrea Cambiaso – 5.5 ............ Francisco Conceicao – 7 The Portuguese winger bagged what might just be the best goal of his career thus far, sending an unstoppable rocket towards the top corner on the half-volley. Kenan Yildiz – 6.5 Similar to his display against Galatasaray, the Turkish star seemed to be the most dangerous player on the pitch, dribbling past his opponents at will, but only lacked the final execution. Jonathan David – 5.5 The Canadian worked hard and tried to set up his teammates on a few occasions. Nevertheless, strikers are primarily judged based on their goal-threat, and his was almost non-existent. Substitutes Jeremie Boga – 6.5 While it wasn’t his best outing overall, the Ivorian did well to beat Svilar on the volley and restore Juve’s hopes. Edon Zhegrova – 6.5 The Kosovar looked like a man possessed as he sought redemption for his infamous miss against Galatasaray. Although he didn’t score, his crosses instigated Juve’s second and third goals. Fabio Miretti – 5.5 ............ Federico Gatti – 7 The Juventus defender only needed a few minutes on the pitch to score his second goal in four days. Smashed home the equaliser that could make all the difference by the end of the season. Lois Openda – N/A . McKennie is a strong player, a very strong one,” the coach said. “The club did everything it needed to do without me having to say anything.” ............ Mattia Perin started the last two games for Juventus, replacing under-fire Michele Di Gregorio, but will Juventus’ first-choice keeper return to the XI against Pisa? “I’ll announce the line-up tomorrow,” Spalletti said. ............ “It will be a very difficult match. The whole environment considers it an easy game to win; everyone thinks they are already relegated, but I’m sure Gilardino was already giving them certain messages, and Oscar Hiljemark as well. Teams always find ways to create motivation. Sometimes it’s even easier in those moments than in others. When a player thinks the game is easy, he becomes more superficial. I’m convinced my players will evaluate the match properly. When you become superficial, you get knocked down, and we absolutely must not let that happen.” . Socrates 9995 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 142186 messaggi Inviato ieri alle 22:36 Preview: Juventus vs Pisa - prediction, team news, lineups Now looking up at Serie A's top four, victory is the only option for fallen giants Juventus when they host relegation-haunted Pisa on Saturday. After taking two points from four games, the Bianconeri have fallen behind Roma and Como in the fight for Champions League places, while their Tuscan visitors are surely bound for the drop. Match preview Meeting for a Sunday night showdown at Stadio Olimpico, Juventus took on fellow top-four contenders Roma last weekend, aware that defeat would serve a heavy blow to their prospects. Just days after ending this season's Champions League campaign with a brave extra-time exit to Galatasaray, Luciano Spalletti's side played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in Serie A. Juve trailed by two until the final 15 minutes, when Jeremie Boga volleyed home his first goal for the club, before bustling centre-back Federico Gatti popped up with a dramatic late leveller. No team has scored more goals in second-half stoppage time this season, and the Bianconeri have retrieved plenty of points from losing positions - but that spirit has only got them so far. Juventus have now won none of their last four league matches - after prevailing in seven of the previous nine - so they must play catch-up to Como and Roma in a tight race for Europe. In that context, any more mistakes must be avoided, and particularly at home to opponents who have won just once all season. Following a 2-0 win in Pisa at the end of December, Juve remain unbeaten across 15 top-flight games against this week's visitors, with a dominant record of 11 wins and four draws. ............ Not yet ready to feature in the matchday squad, Dusan Vlahovic is back in training after more than three months on the sidelines; only Emil Holm and Arkadiusz Milik are also unavailable. Until Vlahovic returns, Jonathan David and Lois Openda will vie to start up front, with Spalletti usually preferring the Canadian. ............ Juventus possible starting lineup: Perin; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly; McKennie, Thuram, Locatelli, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; David Pisa possible starting lineup: Semper; Canestrelli, Caracciolo, Bozhinov; Toure, Loyola, Aebischer, Marin, Angori; Moreo, Durosinmi ............ We say: Juventus 2-0 Pisa Juventus cannot afford to slip up on Saturday, as that would severely damage their hopes of Champions League qualification. As Pisa are low on both confidence and quality, Juve should post their first league win for a month. . Socrates 9995 Joined: 04-Apr-2006 142186 messaggi Inviato 1 ora fa Juventus demolish Pisa with second half performance Juventus secured an emphatic 4-0 victory over Pisa in Turin this evening, keeping their pursuit of a top-four finish firmly on track. Both teams entered the fixture knowing the importance of collecting points at this stage of the season. ............ Despite the final scoreline, the match was far from straightforward during the early stages. Pisa approached the game with determination and defensive discipline, aware that a strong performance was necessary if they were to take anything from the encounter. ............ By half-time, the visitors could take encouragement from their performance, having successfully limited the attacking threat of the hosts. Juventus responded by making changes at the interval, introducing Jeremie Boga for the ineffective Jonathan David and Lloyd Kelly in place of Federico Gatti. The substitutions proved to be a turning point in the match. Nine minutes after the restart, Juventus finally broke the deadlock when Andrea Cambiaso found the net, ending Pisa’s resistance. Once the first goal arrived, the momentum shifted firmly in favour of the home side. Khephren Thuram soon doubled the advantage, reflecting Juventus’ growing dominance as Pisa struggled to contain the pressure. Kenan Yildiz then added a third goal to complete a convincing performance, before Jeremie Boga scored a fourth in added time to seal an impressive result. ............ . It was Pisa who had a big chance after four minutes, when Stefano Moreo’s glancing header at the near post on an Angori cross forced a tricky save out of Mattia Perin. ............ Juventus finally took the lead when Kenan Yildiz was sent down the right by Conceicao and stood up the cross for Cambiaso’s free header at the back post. It was a totally empty net, as Nicolas had been drawn to the near post and was not expecting the cross. They doubled their lead when Weston McKennie won it back on the edge of the area, Locatelli’s angled drive bounced off the far post, allowing Thuram to turn in the rebound from 12 yards. The players rushed over to celebrate with Spalletti on his birthday. ............ Yildiz got the third when he gathered from Conceicao on the edge of the area, committed Coppola with a shimmy, and blasted into the far bottom corner. It was his first Serie A goal since mid-January. Cambiaso’s curler flashed just wide of the far top corner from the edge of the box. With the last kick of the game, Locatelli’s inspired slide-rule pass sent Boga through without breaking his stride to dribble around Nicolas and deposit into an empty net from a tricky angle. They ended a run of two points from four rounds, along with Champions League and Coppa Italia elimination, by sweeping Pisa aside 4-0 in Turin. It took a while to break the newly-promoted strugglers down, then the floodgates opened with Andrea Cambiaso, Thuram, Kenan Yildiz and Jeremie Boga on target. ............ “I am happy for the victory, as we did well in the first half too, but much better in the second half. I believe we had some very good performances in recent games, we didn’t manage to win them, but are on the right track,” Yildiz said. ............ “I am here to help the team, it doesn’t matter where, if the coach tells me to play centre-forward or on the left, that’s fine. I had some knocks today, including on my head, it hurt a bit, but I’m fine,” smiled Yildiz. Today was coach Spalletti’s birthday, and after the Thuram goal, the players ran over to hug the tactician on the touchline. “I am not exactly a hitman, but it is good to score goals and it was a little gift for the coach to celebrate his birthday,” Thuram said. ............ “We believe, because we’ve got the team that can do it, so we must have belief.
