Serie A Preview: Juventus vs Sassuolo – Team News, Lineups & Prediction

ChatGPT-Image-Mar-16-2026-01_07_37-PM.png

Winter signing Jeremie Boga scored a winning goal as Juventus saw off Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium last weekend, securing their second consecutive Serie A victory following a 4-0 thrashing of Pisa on this ground. Despite those triumphs, Luciano Spalletti’s men sit a point adrift of fourth-placed Como ahead of this evening’s kickoff.

Missing out on a top-four finish would be a disaster for the record-time Italian champions. Therefore, Spalletti is under tremendous pressure to guide Juventus to a third consecutive league win. That’s a feat the Turin giants have achieved only twice this season, most recently in December. ............

Match Preview

Juventus

In addition to winning their last two Serie A matches, Juventus kept a clean sheet on both occasions, having previously conceded at least twice in four consecutive league outings. Buoyed by this noticeable defensive improvement, Spalletti’s top-four-bidding side will look to improve their stuttering home form.

Despite boasting Serie A’s third-best home record, Juventus have delivered a mixed bag of performances across their last three league games at the Allianz Stadium (W1, D1, L1). With both matches (won/lost) in this sequence seeing the winner keep a clean sheet, there’s no need to stress the importance of drawing first blood, something Juve have done in 50% of their league fixtures this term (7/14).

Confidence should be high among home fans, given that the Bianconeri have won five of their last seven competitive matches at the Allianz Stadium (D1, L1). Nevertheless, Juventus cannot afford to take anything for granted, having picked up fewer points after the opening 29 rounds just twice since the 2011/12 season.

Sassuolo

............

Team News

Juventus have received a double injury boost ahead of this clash, as long-term absentees Arkadiusz Milik and Dusan Vlahovic resumed full training in midweek. However, both are lacking match fitness, suggesting out-of-form Jonathan David should retain his place in the starting XI. ............

Juventus vs Sassuolo Potential Starting Lineups

Juventus (4-2-3-1): Perin; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly, Cambiaso; Thuram, Locatelli; Conceicao, McKennie, Boga; Yildiz.

Sassuolo (4-3-3): Muric; Walukiewicz, Muharemovic, Idzes, Garcia; Kone, Matic, Thorstvedt; Berardi, Pinamonti, Lauriente.

Juventus vs Sassuolo Prediction

With Juventus hitting their stride at this crucial juncture, it’s difficult to imagine anything other than another clear-cut victory for the home side. Sassuolo’s recent travel woes are too damning to be overlooked, as we back the Bianconeri to extend their dominance in this fixture.

Prediction: Juventus to Win

Preview: Juventus vs Sassuolo Prediction, lineups, betting tips & odds | Serie A 2025-26

Juventus will look to Kenan Yildiz and Jeremie Boga for a home Serie A match against Sassuolo, who have been hit by a whooping cough outbreak this week.

It kicks off at 20:45 CET (19:45 GMT) at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. ............

Dusan Vlahovic is still in doubt, and even if he’s available for selection, he’ll start on the bench.

As reported by several Italian sources, Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti is expected to pick the same XI that beat Udinese last week, with Kenan Yildiz playing as a false nine and Boga in the left winger position.

Sassuolo are dealing with a selection crisis as they confirmed a case of whooping cough on Friday and five other team members with symptoms consistent with the disease. ............

The likes of Domenico Berardi, Andrea Pinamonti, and Sebastian Walukiewicz will surely be part of the team and are expected to start.

Cristian Volpato, Luca Moro, Edoardo Iannoni, Pedro Felipe, Aro Muric, Giacomo Satalino, Gioele Zacchi and Cristian Frangella are also expected to be available. ............

TURIN, ITALY - MARCH 21: Manuel Locatelli of Juventus has a penalty saved during the Serie A match between Juventus FC and US Sassuolo Calcio at Allianz Stadium on March 21, 2026 in Turin, Italy. (Photo by Valerio Pennicino/Getty Images)

A Sassuolo side decimated by a whooping cough outbreak managed to stall Juventus, as Andrea Pinamonti replied to Kenan Yildiz, with Manuel Locatelli’s late penalty saved.

The Bianconeri were back in the hunt for Champions League spots after a 3-3 draw at Roma and two straight wins, as Jeremie Boga was chosen to lead the attack flanked by Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao from the start. ............

Juventus broke through with some route one football, as Mattia Perin captured a corner and immediately launched Conceicao down the right with a long ball, the Portuguese talent cut inside and rolled across for Kenan Yildiz to sweep into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. It was his 10th Serie A goal of the season, a new personal best.

Khephren Thuram surged forward to sting Muric’s gloves, the goalkeeper also pushing a Yildiz looping effort over the bar, but Sassuolo threatened too when Andrea Pinamonti nodded over from point-blank range at the back post when Jay Idzes flicked on a corner. ............

On the stroke of half-time, only a decisive Lloyd Kelly toe deflection took the Domenico Berardi roll across away from Ulisses Garcia, who was ready to tap in from six yards.

Sassuolo equalised with a similar move after the restart, as Cristian Volpato sent Berardi down the right, and this time Pinamonti was there to meet it from close range, getting in front of Gleison Bremer. ............

Conceicao stood up a cross to the far post for a Boga free header, but was denied by the sensational Muric reaction save.

There was a very special moment, as Juventus gave Dusan Vlahovic his first game since November 2025, and Arkadiusz Milik had his first competitive appearance since May 25, 2024.

Vlahovic made an immediate impact, as his header struck Idzes on the arm and it was spotted by VAR for a late Juventus penalty. However, Locatelli stepped up and the weak, central spot-kick was smothered by Muric. It was the third consecutive penalty that Juventus failed to convert in Serie A.

Idzes made up for the error with a crucial clearance to stop Vlahovic tapping in the Kalulu cross, then Muric made a desperate save on the line from the Milik towering header and the attempted Vlahovic follow-up.

Kenan Yildiz fired over from a tricky angle with his left foot deep into stoppages.

Juventus 1-1 Sassuolo

Yildiz 14 (J), Pinamonti 52 (S)

Saved penalty: Locatelli 87 (J)

Hasil Juventus Vs Sassuolo: Gol Yildiz Dibalas Pinamonti, Skor 1-1

Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening, with a first half goal from Kenan Yildiz cancelled out by an Andrea Pinamonti equaliser in the second.

Late in the match, Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric saved a Manuel Locatelli penalty, after a Jay Idzes handball. ............

Juventus 1-1 Sassuolo – Player Ratings

JuventusPerin 6.5; Kalulu 6.5, Bremer 5.5, Kelly 6 (Vlahovic 6.5), Cambiaso 5.5 (Miretti 5.5); Thuram 5.5 (Koopmeiners 5.5), Locatelli 5; Conceicao 7 (Zhegrova N/A), McKennie 5.5, Boga 5.5 (Milik 6); Yildiz 7

Best Juventus player: Kenan Yildiz – To nobody’s surprise, was once again the best Juventus player on the pitch. Took his goal well from the edge of the box to give the Bianconeri the lead and was unlucky not to have an assist, despite creating several great chances.

Lowest Juventus rating: Manuel Locatelli – Penalty miss aside, he was ineffective and struggled to leave his mark on the midfield. Then, when you factor in the penalty, which was saved well by Muric, turns into a pretty bad day at the office for the Italian.

Coach: Luciano Spalletti 6 – Couldn’t quite get his side to work right this evening, the coach will be frustrated after missing out on the three points. His substitutes added little to their efforts to score a late winner, aside from Dusan Vlahovic winning the penalty, although it was nice to see both Vlahovic and Milik back in action.

Sassuolo: Muric 8; Walukiewicz 5.5, Idzes 5.5, Muharemovic 7, Garcia 5.5; Kone 6, Vranckx 5.5 (Iannoni N/A), Bakola 5.5 (Lauriente 6); Berardi 6.5 (Doig N/A), Pinamonti 7 (Nzola N/A), Volpato 6.5 (Lipani 6)

Best Sassuolo Player: Arijanet Muric - ............

Lowest Sassuolo rating: Jay Idzes –  ............

Coach: Fabio Grosso 7 –  ............

Juventus drop precious points in 1-1 draw with Sassuolo

fwuQ20ARBcwj.webp

Juventus played out a 1-1 draw at home to Sassuolo this evening, with Manuel Locatelli missing a costly spot kick. Sassuolo came into the match with confidence after winning two of their last five meetings against Juventus, and they believed they could achieve a positive result in this fixture. ............

Juventus began the game strongly, showing their desire to gain an early advantage. Sassuolo attempted to contain them, but after 14 minutes, Juventus took the lead through Kenan Yildiz. The goal put the hosts in front and allowed them to continue pressing for another.

The home side remained focused on extending its lead, knowing how important it was to create a margin against a team capable of responding. Despite their efforts, they were unable to score again before halftime. Sassuolo still produced some dangerous moments during the first half, but Juventus held on to their lead going into the interval. ............

The visitors made a strong start to the second half and equalised almost immediately through Andrea Pinamonti. The goal brought the game level and ensured there was still enough time for either side to find a winner.

Juventus later had a major opportunity to regain the lead when they were awarded a penalty, but Locatelli missed the spot kick. From that point, the task became more difficult for the hosts.

In response, Juventus introduced Dušan Vlahović and Arkadiusz Milik in an attempt to find a winning goal. ............

TURIN, ITALY - MARCH 21: Luciano Spalletti, Head Coach of Juventus, reacts during the Serie A match between Juventus FC and US Sassuolo Calcio at Allianz Stadium on March 21, 2026 in Turin, Italy. (Photo by Valerio Pennicino/Getty Images)

Luciano Spalletti was torn between praise and criticism of his Juventus players after a 1-1 draw with Sassuolo. ‘We created so many chances, but often made the wrong decisions.’ ............

They had taken the lead through Kenan Yildiz, but when Andrea Pinamonti equalised, Manuel Locatelli saw the late opportunity to win it go to waste with Arijanet Muric’s penalty save.

This is the third consecutive penalty that Juventus have failed to convert in Serie A, after Kenan Yildiz and Jonathan David also made mistakes.

“When you play with four at the back, you have to spread the ball and surround them, so you create one-on-one situations. I kept telling them to find Yildiz and Conceicao, because Sassuolo were pinned back into their own penalty area,” Spalletti said.

“If you play through the middle and lose the ball, you struggle to get it back. If you lose it out wide, you can stop the counter and win it back quickly. Instead, we made decisions that in the long run we paid a price for, because too many times we didn’t make the right choices, there wasn’t enough maturity.

“We conceded the equaliser, created quite a few situations similar to the one that Sassuolo scored, we had at least 10 of those, but we weren’t reactive enough, didn’t make the smartest choices.” ............

“Perin and Conceicao made the right decisions there, but Conceicao had another six of those situations in the first half alone where he chose the wrong option, or he had a bad shot, or he passed it to Kalulu who missed the finish past the far post. When you do not execute the chances you create, you pay for that eventually,” explained Spalletti.

“Considering the chances and the way we poured forward to the end, I think if we had won, then it would’ve been deserved.” ............

“We are distraught with disappointment for the result, but smile anyway, because we create so many situations where we could’ve won it, but we have to accept the result. There were some good things in the second half, even if we moved the ball a bit too slowly,” noted the coach.

There was some good news for Juventus too, because in a late double substitution Spalletti gave Dusan Vlahovic his first appearance since the end of November 2025, and Arek Milik his first game since May 2024. ............

TURIN, ITALY - MARCH 21: Manuel Locatelli and Mattia Perin of Juventus embrace after the Serie A match between Juventus FC and US Sassuolo Calcio at Allianz Stadium on March 21, 2026 in Turin, Italy. (Photo by Valerio Pennicino/Getty Images)

Luciano Spalletti confirmed Kenan Yildiz wanted to take the penalty against Sassuolo, but Manuel Locatelli was given the ball, leading to the third consecutive failed Juventus spot-kick. ............

Kenan Yildiz had scored the opener, cancelled out by Andrea Pinamonti, and Dusan Vlahovic’s header struck Jay Idzes on the arm for a late penalty. ............

What the cameras perhaps did not capture was the conversation going on when the VAR call was being made, as Yildiz was standing near the spot, hoping to be given the ball.

Instead, Spalletti called Locatelli over to the touchline, and after a brief conversation, the midfielder went over to inform Yildiz of the decision.

It didn’t pay off, as Locatelli’s weak and central penalty was smothered by Arijanet Muric.

“Locatelli came over and told me he felt ready to take it,” Spalletti confirmed.

“There were two or three players who wanted to step up, but Locatelli is the designated taker. It’s fine, anyone can miss a penalty, we are just disappointed about not bringing home the victory.” ............

This means Juventus have now failed to convert three consecutive Serie A penalty kicks with three different players.

Jonathan David got it wrong in another stalemate with Lecce, while Yildiz was denied in a 5-0 victory over Cremonese.

In total, the Bianconeri have received seven Serie A penalties this term, converting four of them.

Locatelli remains their best taker, converting two out of his three, while Kenan Yildiz has a 50 per cent rate. ............

Juventus 1 - Sassuolo 1: Initial reaction and random observations

224234688-49ddfeec-8ba9-4c21-8fed-417f2404f02f.jpg

Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli stepped up to the penalty spot in the final game of the 2024-25 season last May. With his team’s Champions League hopes were hanging in the balance, he took about as cold-blooded penalty as we’ve seen from a Juve player in a few years. The moment, the stakes, everything that came with it certainly ran through his head before making contact with the ball. But on that nice in Venice, he was nails.

Fast forward to Juve’s final game before the international break 10 months later, the same cannot be said about that same player stepping up to the penalty spot.

Of course, that was in the season finale. This penalty kick came with eight games on the schedule still to play. But it’s hard not to think of the ramifications of what Locatelli absolutely flubbing his 87th-minute attempt from the penalty spot and ultimately sending Juventus to a 1-1 draw against a Sassuolo side that they absolutely hammered all of 2 1/2 months ago. With the team directly in front of Juventus still to play this weekend, Luciano Spalletti could very much be watching his team fall three points behind Como by the time lunchtime is over on Sunday.

No matter how you feel about the penalty — and it certainly looked far from conclusive considering the angles and replays that we were given during the lengthy VAR review — it was a golden chance for Juventus to get a go-ahead goal with only minutes to go.

And they completely whiffed on it.

Some may say that the ball don’t lie. That is true. Others will also say that this result was more a by-product of Juventus not putting Sassuolo away when they had the chance in the first half and then looking completely out of whack following the equalizer all of a few minutes out of halftime. Both parts are very much the truth — and it all added up to Juve dropping points in a game in which they couldn’t knowing who Como has on the schedule this weekend. ............

You aren’t going to jump into fourth place playing like this. The more you drop points, the more you’re going to demand that you need to be near-perfect over the course of the final eight games. And if there’s one thing this Juventus squad have proven to us both this season and in previous iterations, long winning runs is not something that they can do on a regular basis.

In the end, though, it pretty much is just a microcosm of Juventus’ struggles up front this season. They had eight shots on goal and scored just once. Sassuolo had seven shots — total. I’m guessing you won’t be surprised to hear the news that Juve allowed a goal on Sassuolo’s first shot on target on Saturday. You know, the kind of thing that Juventus have been doing all season long.

This game should have been put away well before any sort of last-minute penalty might have been needed. But outside of Kenan Yildiz’s 10th goal of the Serie A season, Juventus were unable to convert much of anything. While it’s true that Sassuolo goalkeeper Arijanet Muric hulked up and kept his team in the game, the lack of Juve putting another team away came back to bite them right in the c**o.

We don’t know if it will end up costing them a spot in the Champions League next season just yet. But it’s hard not to think that they are only so many get of jail free cards left for this team before they are in even more serious of danger than they may well be right now.

Juventus can’t afford to drop many more points this season — and this has been the case for weeks now. Yet, on Saturday night, they weren’t able to get more than a single goal during a first half in which they were clearly the better side and then it came back to haunt them. Not exactly the best way to go into an international break that is already going to be tense as hell for pretty much every person with Italian heritage. ............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Just when you think they might be starting to snap out of whatever the hell was wrong with them in February, Juve go and drop this kind of result on us. Not great, Bob!
  • Boy, I sure didn’t expect to be feeling this kind of way when I saw Juve go coast-to-coast in the span of 12 seconds and take a 1-0 lead through Yildiz. That looked the beginning of something good. Instead, it turned out to be the high point before things just took a complete nosedive.
  • A whooping cough outbreak within the squad? Are we back in 2020 again? Or is this just a weird kind of second edition of all the madness that 2020 proved to be? ............
  • What in the yellow hell is that Sassuolo away kit? I’m glad we don’t have to see that again?
  • What was worse to look out: Sassuolo’s away kit or Juventus’ second-half performance? Yeah, hard to pick!
  • Juventus’ first shot on goal was a wide-open header from Locatelli. Just as we all predicted it would be. (Was a good save on it, too — credit where credit is due because that’s what we do here.)
  • Then again, it was a much better header than whatever the heck that penalty kick attempt was.
  • I will say, though, I have no problem Locatelli taking the penalty kick. The sample size of him taking PKs is still small, but he’s been good up until this point. Yildiz has barely taken any PKs as a professional. Dusan Vlahovic was out for four months and probably rusty as all hell when it comes to those pressure-packed situations no matter how much his league-high salary may tell us otherwise. It was Locatelli’s chance to be The Man and live up to the captain’s billing. Instead, he sent a pretty easy shot right at Muric. ............
  • Juve needed a goal and Jonathan David and Loïs Openda were nowhere to be found. I repeat, Arek Milik, who hadn’t played in almost two full seasons, was a better option in Spalletti’s eyes than either one of those two summer signings. What’s the use of spending so much money on these new attackers then? Spalletti clearly has lost faith in David and Openda and it’s hard to see a way forward with them beyond this season if this is how it’s going to be the next two months.
  • Yes, that being said, if you’re going to spam the ball into the box, then guys like Vlahovic and Milik who are better in the air is the right call. Just didn’t expect Milik to make his triumphant return in such a desperate kind of situation where Juve needed to score.
  • It’s good to hear the reception those two guys but especially Milik got as they came on. Man has been through it and deserved a warm welcome back onto the field. ............
  • I miss the happiness that came with that counterattack on Yildiz’s goal.
  • That outlet pass from Mattia Perin was a thing of beauty. I honestly didn’t know he had that in him.
  • The run from Francisco Conceição? Wonderful. The one-time finish from Yildiz? Beautiful.
  • That was supposed to be the ignition point and what we all hoped would become another win. Nope, we were all wrong. Juventus’ bad side came back to play. I hate it all. ............
  • Credit to Khephren Thuram for playing 70 minutes after passing a late fitness test. But man, there were some moments and turnovers in this game that had you wondering just how fit he actually was.
  • Also, I’m a little worried about Bremer. He didn’t look very good on the Sassuolo goal. Not at all. ............

Juventus gets a fitness boost ahead of their next match

fwuQptLoQ5Je.webp

Juventus’ next match is scheduled against Genoa on Monday, and they are set to welcome Emil Holm back from injury for that fixture.

The defender joined the club during the January transfer window, and Luciano Spalletti is known to value his qualities, meaning that once he is fully fit, he is expected to receive regular playing time. Juventus have been working diligently to ensure his smooth return to training over recent weeks. ............

Holm had been on Juventus’ radar even before his arrival, underlining how highly he is regarded within the club. His current spell, therefore, represents an important opportunity to demonstrate his value and secure a longer-term future in Turin. ............

While the rest of the squad have been granted a few days off to rest, Holm is expected to return to training and could be available for selection when competitive action resumes. This development provides him with a timely chance to make an impact as the season approaches its conclusion.

Juventus consider him one of the most promising players within their squad, and there will now be expectations for him to deliver strong performances in the remaining fixtures. His ability to contribute consistently could influence the club’s decision regarding a potential permanent transfer. ............

Preview: Juventus vs Genoa - prediction, team news, lineups

PREVIEW | Juventus vs Genoa - team news, lineups, predictions - Yahoo Sports

Trailing behind in Serie A's tight top-four race, fallen giants Juventus will welcome Genoa to Turin on Monday evening.

The Bianconeri dropped more points just before the break, leaving them in real danger of missing out on Champions League qualification; meanwhile, their visitors are not yet safe from the drop.

Match preview

Before international football intervened, Juventus were on track for a vital victory at home to Sassuolo, as they sought to keep pace with Como and Roma in the race for fourth place.

Even after Kenan Yildiz saw his opener cancelled out early in the second half, the Bianconeri were awarded a late penalty and seemed set to wrap up maximum points.

However, captain Manuel Locatelli then seized the ball from Yildiz and saw his tame attempt easily saved, allowing Como to pull three points clear and leaving Juve level with Roma.

In addition to limply exiting Europe and the Coppa Italia, Luciano Spalletti's side have only won two of their last seven league matches, which places them 13th in the form table over that period.

Overall, Juventus have lost six of 30 Serie A matches so far, and only once in the last 15 years have they suffered more league defeats at this stage of a campaign.

History will still be on their side against Genoa, though, as Juve have been beaten just twice by their Ligurian counterparts across 57 top-flight contests in Turin, winning 44.

Not only does their last home loss in this fixture date back to 1991, but the Bianconeri have also kept clean sheets in all of the last four Serie A meetings, taking 10 points from a possible 12. ............

Team News

Juventus should have a full squad to choose from, as forward pair Dusan Vlahovic and Arkadiusz Milik both returned to the fold at the end of March.

After spending several months on the sidelines, Vlahovic is now fit enough to feature up front, but Yildiz could continue as a false nine with support from Jeremie Boga.

Mattia Perin seems to have supplanted Michele Di Gregorio as Juve's first-choice goalkeeper, while winter signing Justin Bijlow quickly established himself as Genoa's number one. ............

Juventus possible starting lineup:

Perin; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly, Cambiaso; Thuram, Locatelli; Conceicao, McKennie, Boga; Yildiz

Genoa possible starting lineup:

Bijlow; Marcandalli, Ostigard, Vasquez; Ellertsson, Frendrup, Malinovskyi, Martin; Messias, Vitinha; Colombo ............

We say: Juventus 2-1 Genoa

Although they slipped up against Sassuolo, most of Juve's losses this season have been sustained on the road - and they have an excellent home record against Genoa.

Faced with an attack-minded away side, Spalletti should edge the tactical battle and become just the fourth coach to reach 300 Serie A wins.

Spalletti, le madri di Del Piero e Totti e il rinnovo Juve: “Non riesco a capire perché…”

Luciano Spalletti shrugs off Juventus contract talk and is glad to reunite with ‘son’ Daniele De Rossi, but Italy players are ‘tied to disappointment like a leash’ after World Cup failure.

The Bianconeri host Genoa on Monday at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CEST).

They went into the break for international duty in joint fifth place with Roma, three points adrift of high-flying Como, so it’s going to be a fight to the end for Champions League qualification. ............

“It is an important final sprint, but that’s a normal standard for us, so when you say there are eight Finals, that’s what it should always be for Juventus,” Spalletti said.

“We must be ready to give our best, and there is no margin for error, as we’ll need to win practically every game to get there, starting with a very difficult Genoa.”

It had been reported that Spalletti would sign a new contract with Juventus during the break, but there is no announcement yet.

“I don’t understand why you care so much about this. We’ve got a perfectly fine rapport and there will be the opportunity to discuss it, we don’t need to do it all now. It has to come naturally.”

“Vlahovic trained well and is available, but I doubt he’ll be able to start. He could give us a hand,” added Spalletti.

“Jeremie Boga showed what he is capable of, he is a very quick player with these bursts of pace, but doesn’t love physical contact. We are happy to have him here.” ............

“Daniele De Rossi is one of my football children, and I care for him just as I think he cares for me. At the same time, as with all father-son relationships, sometimes I got on his nerves.

“It is a Genoa side suited to De Rossi, because you can see his characteristics and mentality in the squad.” ............

Inevitably, the questions turned towards the failure of Italy to qualify for a third consecutive edition of the World Cup, losing the play-offs to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Obviously, those who did qualify returned to base happier and those who didn’t are tied to disappointment like a leash,” said Spalletti.

“I know everyone and how much love and passion they put into this. I am sad about what happened, but I also hope that people listen to all sorts of advice, and start to plan properly for the future.

“We need to ask ourselves if we really care about getting value out of talent. There are many foreign owners in Italian football now, and that is good, but we must ask if they want to make the most of Italian players. It is also only right to go and seek the best from the other nations.

“I think there are still many mothers out there who are churning out talents like those of Baggio, Totti, Del Piero and Cannavaro did in the past, and we must be in a position to use the talent that more mothers bring into the world.”

Spalletti has three selection doubts to resolve ahead of Juventus vs Genoa

Luciano Spalletti on the sidelines against Roma

Juventus head coach Luciano Spalletti isn’t expected to ring too many changes to his starting lineup when hosting Genoa on Monday.

The Bianconeri headed to the international on a negative note after failing to beat Sassuolo at home, which left them three points behind Como in the grand battle for 4th place.

Therefore, the Turin-based giants cannot afford to commit any more blunders, especially at home against a team lying in the second half of the table. ............

Three starting berths could still be up for grabs, even though we already have clear favourites.

As the source explains, the battle for the No.1 role remains open between Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin.

The former had been the first-choice goalkeeper since joining the club in the summer of 2024, but a series of shaky displays saw him relegated to the bench in favour of his more experienced compatriot, who started the last five Juventus matches across all competitions. The report tips Perin to be confirmed once more.

In addition to the goalkeeper dilemma, Spalletti also has to choose between Khephren Thuram and Teun Koopmeiners. The two midfielders are vying for a starting role beside Manuel Locatelli. ............

Finally, the returns of Dusan Vlahovic and Arkadiusz Milik have been a breeze of fresh air for Spalletti, who hasn’t been convinced by Lois Openda and Jonathan David in the centre-forward role.

However, the manager admitted that neither the Serbian nor the Polish striker is 100% fit at the moment, hinting that Jeremie Boga could start as a false 9 once more. ............

Juventus Probable XI (4-2-3-1): Perin; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Thuram; Conceicao, McKennie, Yildiz; Boga

Juventus vs Genoa: Preview and Prediction

Juve Genoa prediction banner

Italian giants Juventus will resume their Serie A campaign post the international break with a home game against Genoa. The Old Lady suffered a blow to their hopes of securing a top-four finish prior to the break, and they will be eager to return to winning ways here.

The Turin-based outfit are fifth in the Italian top flight with 54 points in their 30 outings. They have won 15, drawn nine and lost six games so far. Luciano Spalletti’s team have been far from convincing in the ongoing campaign.

The Bianconeri have only won two out of their last five league games, and they are heading into this fixture on the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw against Sassuolo. After a lengthy break, they will not be eager to get things back on track, as they are three points behind fourth-placed Como and dropping any more points could seriously dent their chances of playing in the Champions League next season. ............

Team News & Tactics

Juventus

With Arkadiusz Milik and Dusan Vlahovic back fit, Luciano Spalletti should have a fully-fit squad to choose from this time around.

The Old Lady will line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, where Mattia Perin is expected to take charge in goal. Pierre Kalulu and Andrea Cambiaso are expected to be the full-backs, while Gleison Bremer should pair up with Lloyd Kelly at the heart of the defence.

As for the midfield unit, Khephren Thuram and Manuel Locatelli will form the double pivot in the centre of the park. They will shield the backline and look to control the tempo of the game.

Francisco Conceicao and Jeremie Boga are expected to feature on the flanks, providing much-needed width to their attacks. Weston McKennie will take up the number ten role, while Kenan Yildiz could lead the line for Juventus against Genoa despite the presence of a number of options up top.

Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1): Perin; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly, Cambiaso; Thuram, Locatelli; Conceicao, McKennie, Boga; Yildiz

Juventus vs Genoa Predicted XI

Genoa

 ............

Probable Lineup (3-4-2-1): Bijlow; Marcandalli, Ostigard, Vasquez; Ellertsson, Frendrup, Malinovskyi, Martin; Messias, Vitinha; Colombo

Juventus vs Genoa Predicted XI

Key Stats

  • Genoa have won three out of their last five league games, after a run of 25 games with just five wins.
  • Juventus have only won two out of their last six league outings.
  • Genoa have only won three out of their 14 away games.
  • In the reverse fixture, the Old Lady secured a hard-fought 1-0 win. But a lot has changed since, as both clubs now have new managers on their bench.
  • In 57 league meetings between them, Juventus have only lost two.

Player to Watch

Francisco Conceicao

The Portuguese international certainly seems to be enjoying his time in Turin. He has established himself as a key figure at Juventus under Luciano Spalletti. In the ongoing campaign, the 23-year-old has been involved in 34 matches across competitions and has racked up over 2,000 minutes.

He has also contributed towards seven goals. While the majority of his appearances have come on the right flank, Conceicao has also been deployed as a second striker and an attacking midfielder when needed. ............

Prediction

Juventus 3-1 Genoa

Juventus will head into this fixture under pressure, given their recent inconsistency and the importance of securing a top-four finish. Playing at home, they are expected to take control of the game, dominate possession, and create better chances as they look to get their campaign back on track.

Genoa, however, have shown signs of improvement in recent weeks and could look to make things difficult with a compact setup and quick transitions. While they do have the ability to trouble the hosts, especially on the counter, Juventus’s superior quality and depth should eventually make the difference in what could be a competitive encounter. The Hard Tackle predicts a 3-1 win for the home team.

Round 31: Juventus vs. Genoa match preview

Juventus vs Genoa Prediction & Betting Tips | Bet Experts

The final stretch of the 2025-26 season is officially upon us, my friends.

And just like last season, Juventus’ Champions League qualification hopes hang on just how many points they can pick over the course of these final eight games. And in even a more extreme case when compared to last season, Juventus will need a whole lot of help to jump over fourth-place Como and then potentially stay there to ensure they qualify for the Champions League. ............

The catch? Because of it being Easter Sunday, we have to wait a day longer than you probably originally thought when the international break began for Juventus to start what hopefully turns in their final push to finish in the top four.

They will do that on Monday evening at the Allianz against a club in Genoa who are in an interesting position in the Serie A table. ............

Spalletti and Juventus will know that Roma got pummeled at San Siro against league leaders Inter Milan and what Como’s result in the unusual Monday lunchtime kickoff prior to taking the field in Turin. They could very well get some help from Udinese against a streaking Como side, but most important Spalletti’s squad is handling their own business in the event of getting the much-needed help that has to take place at some point over these next eight weeks for the Bianconeri to jump back into the top four.

At this point, it’s hard to know if it will actually happen.

But what we do know is that Juventus have to take advantage of their remaining games against provincial sides like Genoa are because the schedule the rest of the way isn’t going t be so kind. The next three games after facing Genoa are all against teams that are very much capable of beating Juventus.

If we see the same kind of Juventus that showed up and struggled mightily in their draw with Sassuolo prior to the international break, then it will be tough sledding for Spalletti’s squad on Monday. And if that’s the case, then the incredibly tough task of trying to get back into the top four at this stage of the season will become even greater of a hill to climb. ............

TEAM NEWS

  • Something that we haven’t been able to say basically all season: During training on Friday, Spalletti had every single player available. Seriously, it happened. There are currently no injured players on the Juventus roster, although that is likely to change because these things happen in football.
  • As much as somebody like Dusan Vlahovic has been able to train consistently over the international break, Spalletti said it’s still very unlikely that the Serbian No. 9 starts against Genoa on Monday. “I think it’s possible he can help us during the match,” Spalletti said of Vlahovic, who returned after four months out injured in Juve’s 1-1 draw against Sassuolo before the international break.
  • With Vlahovic still not an option to start, it’s likely that Spalletti sticks with Jérémie Boga as a false 9. Or maybe it’s Kenan Yildiz who is tried there once again.
  • Other than that, starting lineup Spalletti rolls out is expected to be much like he has used in recent games. ............

JUVENTUS PLAYER TO WATCH

There’s been a ton of focus on Juve’s attack when it comes to the Bianconeri’s final eight games of the season — and for good reason considering how up and down production has been outside of Yildiz.

But just as important is Juventus’ defense getting right down the stretch. And when it comes to that defense, it’s pretty clear who they need to start to turn a corner again and look like his old self if they want any chance to of being a much more solid unit at the back.

Yes, it’s not breaking news that Juventus need Gleison Bremer to be more like the player we’ve known him to be prior to the last few months. If Bremer is not the Bremer of old, then Juventus’ defense is just not anywhere close to being even a solid unit as compared to when he’s playing like the player he was prior to either of his knee injuries over the last 18 months.

The problem has been, seeing that player from the pre-injury days has been hit and miss. And especially lately, it’s been more miss than anything else, with a good number of the goals that Juventus have allowed seeing Bremer play a rather big role in them happening. ............

It’s safe to say that Juve desperately need it if they want Champions League football next season. And to just ensure that Bremer is 100% a Juve player next season, too.

TURIN, ITALY - APRIL 06: Michele Di Gregorio of Juventus saves the penalty from Aaron Martin of Genoa during the Serie A match between Juventus FC and Genoa CFC at Allianz Stadium on April 06, 2026 in Turin, Italy. (Photo by Valerio Pennicino/Getty Images)

Juventus closed to within a point of Como in fourth place with a 2-0 victory over Genoa, as Gleison Bremer and Weston McKennie scored, substitute Michele Di Gregorio saving a penalty.

The Bianconeri were feeling the pressure after a 1-1 draw with Sassuolo left them in joint fifth place, although Como’s draw in Udine gave them the opportunity to close the gap on fourth. ............

It took just four minutes to break the deadlock, as after the first Gleison Bremer header was charged down, Khephren Thuram and Lloyd Kelly knocked it back into the box for another Bremer header, this one wrong-footing Justin Bijlow with a deflection off Johan Vasquez.

Thuram flashed just wide and Ruslan Malinovskyi’s powerful free kick was deflected for a corner, but Juventus added a second with a well-worked move.

Weston McKennie started it in the centre-circle sending Francisco Conceicao down the right, continued his run and was ready to sweep home the return pass from 12 yards off the inside of the right boot.

However, McKennie was booked soon after for a clumsy sliding tackle on Vasquez and will be suspended for the big match with Atalanta.

Kenan Yildiz had a couple of weak efforts straight at Bijlow, but McKennie wasted an astonishing chance on the stroke of half-time. ............

Michele Di Gregorio came on for the second half, as Mattia Perin sustained a slight calf issue.

Juve continued to pour forward, as first McKennie was sliding in unable to fully meet the Thuram knockdown in a free kick routine, then moments later Jonathan David’s screamer from the edge of the area thumped the inside of the far post. ............

Vlahovic was getting ready to come on when he felt a calf twinge in the warm-up, so Milik was introduced instead.

Bremer brought down Aaron Martin for a yellow card, but VAR confirmed the contact was on the line, which is part of the penalty area. Martin stepped up, but Di Gregorio marked his unexpected return with a huge double save, first on the Martin spot-kick, then the follow-up volley too. It means Genoa have failed to convert four of their eight Serie A penalties this season, with four different players missing.

Baldanzi made a big difference since coming on for Genoa and was brought down by Thuram this time inches outside the box.

Arkadiusz Milik spotted Bijlow off his line and attempted an audacious lob from the centre-circle, which the Genoa goalkeeper scrambled back to claw away.

Juventus 2-0 Genoa

Bremer 4 (J), McKennie 17 (J)

Saved penalty: Martin 75 (G)

Juventus 2-0 Genoa: Bremer & McKennie give Old Lady a UCL boost

Italy: Juventus - Genoa 2-0

At the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Juventus earned a vital win over Genoa to boost their Champions League hopes.

Luciano Spalletti decided to restore Jonathan David to his starting lineup. The Canadian spearheaded the 4-2-3-1 formation, supported by Francisco Conceicao, Weston McKennie, and Kenan Yildiz. ............

The Bianconeri didn’t waste any time before laying their siege towers, and it took them less than four minutes to seize the lead.

Genoa tried to clear the corner kick, but Thuram kept the ball alive by redirecting the header towards the box. This was followed by a second header from Kelly, and then a third from Bremer. While the Brazilian couldn’t put much power behind it, the deflection wrong-footed Justin Bijlow.

In the 17th minute, Juventus doubled their advantage through a smooth counter-attack. Cambiaso picked up McKennie in midfield, and the latter found Conceicao on the right wing. The Portuguese stormed to the box before completing the give-and-go with the American, who beat the goalkeeper with a clinical low drive from the middle of the box.

The home side continued to dominate the action for the rest of the first half, and McKennie almost completed a personal brace, but couldn’t connect well with Yildiz’s headed cut-back, wasting a golden chance from a couple of yards.

Juventus kept pressing for a third after the break, but McKennie squandered another chance, while David’s formidable effort crashed against the post.

Genoa improved as the match progressed, and were awarded a spot-kick for a Bremer challenge on Aaron Martin. The Spaniard converted it himself, but Michele Di Gregorio, who had replaced Perin at the interval, produced a terrific save and doubled down with another stop on the follow-up. ............

The two sides traded blows in the final stages of the contest, with Arek Milik coming close with an audacious attempt from the middle of the pitch, but the result remained 2-0. ............

Juventus 2-0 Genoa

Goals: 5′ Bremer, 17′ (J), McKennie (J)

Yellow cards: Locatelli 13′ (J), McKennie 26′ (J), Frendrup 50′ (G), Bremer 71′ (J), Thuram 78′ (J).

Juventus- Genoa 2-0: Di Gregorio para il rigore ed è grande protagonista

Juventus teammates were full of praise for goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, who came on at half-time and made a second-half penalty save to help the Old Lady towards a 2-0 victory over Genoa in Serie A on Sunday afternoon.

Juventus were forced into a rare in-game change of goalkeepers at half-time of their 2-0 victory over Genoa on Easter Monday after an injury to Mattia Perin, which gave a first run-out in five games for the out-of-favour Di Gregorio. ............

Juventus moved back within one point of the Serie A top four thanks to goals from Gleison Bremer and Weston McKennie in an eventual 2-0 win over Daniele De Rossi’s Genoa at the Allianz Stadium. ............

Di Gregorio had been dropped for Perin for the last four Serie A matches, but was brought on at half-time after the latter felt a problem with his calf. Di Gregorio then went on to make a huge double save from the penalty spot to keep Juve’s two-goal lead in tact. ............

“He’s gone through good and bad times with us, but we know his qualities,” said goalscorer Bremer after full-time. “We knew his time would come, and it has come.”

Andrea Cambiaso added: “Michele is an extraordinary guy. He’s always switched on in training and I’m very happy for him because today he won us a very important game.

“He was great because of the attitude he had, he’s always been alert and today he showed it.”

Juventus player ratings vs Genoa: Di Gregorio back with a bang

Michele Di Gregorio in action for Juventus

Juventus made the most out of Roma and Como’s slip-ups, as they beat Genoa by two unanswered goals to place themselves just one point behind the Champions League zone.

Gleison Bremer and Weston McKennie gave the Old Lady a two-goal lead after 17 minutes, but they couldn’t quite kill off the contest with a third, which kept the visitors’ hopes alive. ............

Juventus XI (3-4-2-1)

Mattia Perin – 6

The experienced goalkeeper was almost a bystander against his former club for 45 minutes before making way for Di Gregorio.

Pierre Kalulu – 7

 ............

Gleison Bremer – 6.5

A story of two halves for the Brazilian, who scored the opener after four minutes and looked outstanding against Lorenzo Colombo in the first period, but found some difficulties after the break, and ended up giving away a spot-kick.

Lloyd Kelly – 6.5

 ............

Weston McKennie – 7

The versatile American showcased his finishing touch by rounding off a slick counter-attack, but he will be kicking himself for squandering two glorious chances later on.

Manuel Locatelli – 7

A dominant display in the middle of the park from the Juventus captain, who never shied away from a sliding tackle. Picked up his teammates with precise passes and long balls.

Khephren Thuram – 6.5

 ............

Andrea Cambiaso – 6

 ............

Francisco Conceicao – 7

The Portuguese speed demon provided the assist for McKennie with a perfectly timed set-up pass. He was able to cause havoc on countless occasions.

Kenan Yildiz – 6.5

 ............

Jonathan David – 5.5

The Canadian had a forgettable first half, but almost made up for it with a venomous shot out of nowhere that crashed against the far post.

Substitutes

Michele Di Gregorio – 7.5

If his half-time introduction aimed to restore his self-confidence, then it certainly panned out better than Spalletti had expected. Pulled off a fantastic save on Aaron Martin’s spot-kick before denying the follow-up attempt.

Arkadiusz Milik – 6.5

The Pole’s return has been a breeze of fresh air for Juventus. Held up the ball experetly, brought his teammates into the play, and almost scored from the halfway line with an audacious effort.

Fabio Miretti – N/A

Emil Holm – N/A

Jeremie Boga – N/A

TURIN, ITALY - APRIL 06: Luciano Spalletti, Head Coach of Juventus, reacts during the Serie A match between Juventus FC and Genoa CFC at Allianz Stadium on April 06, 2026 in Turin, Italy. (Photo by Valerio Pennicino/Getty Images)

Luciano Spalletti criticised Juventus’s second-half performance despite picking up a 2-0 victory over Genoa in Serie A on Monday evening, and says that after six or seven months at the helm in Turin, ‘I’m still not sure what I’m dealing with’. ............

Despite moving back within a point of Como and the Serie A top four on Easter Monday, Spalletti was still frustrated by some of the things he saw from his players against Genoa, especially in the second half. ............

“It wasn’t tiredness, we didn’t train yesterday or the day before,” Spalletti told Sky after full-time.

“I left them alone because they needed to recover. They had two days off, a training session and a half and then they took a break, so that’s not the case.” ............

“Sometimes we have to accept that we aren’t the best versions of ourselves. After six or seven months here, I’m still not sure what I’m dealing with. It’s not possible to have a first half like that and then a second half like this. And if they go ahead and score the penalty, it becomes a very difficult evening.” ............

There are also concerns for Dusan Vlahovic, who was meant to come on but felt something go in his calf while warming up, and for goalkeeper Perin, who was forced off at half-time, also with a calf issue.

“There is concern because they both got hurt, they both felt a muscle go,” Spaleltti confirmed. “We need them to have tests to understand how long it will take to get them back on the pitch.”
