Nico Paz outperformed Kenan Yildiz in a battle of the rising stars, as Como claimed a surprise 2-0 victory over Juventus at the Stadio Sinigaglia in Serie A on Sunday afternoon. ............

Much had been made of the ‘battle’ between young talents Paz and Yildiz ahead of kick-off, but it was the Como man who stole the headlines with a brilliant individual goal to seal Como’s two-goal lead just over 10 minutes from time.

Here are the player ratings after a memorable victory for Cesc Fabregas’s side.

Como 2-0 Juventus: Player ratings

Como: Butez 6.5; Smolcic 6, D.Carlos 6, Kempf 7; Vojvoda 6, Da Cunha 6, Perrone 6, Caqueret 6.5, Moreno 5.5; Paz 7.5; Morata 6.5.

Best Como player: Nico Paz 7.5 ............

Coach: Cesc Fabregas 8 ............

Juventus: Di Gregorio 5.5; Kalulu 4.5, Rugani 5, Kelly 5.5, Cambiaso 5; Koopmeiners 5.5, Locatelli 5.5, Thuram 6; Conceicao 6, Yildiz 5; David 5.

Best Juventus player: Francisco Conceicao 6 – Slim pickings on a tough day out for Juventus. At least Conceicao tried to take to make things happen, even if he was largely unsuccessful and had the occasional slip.

Coach: Igor Tudor 5 – It wasn’t Juventus or Tudor’s day at the Sinigaglia. The Bianconeri never truly looked like scoring, they found it difficult to break down Como’s lines and struggled to get Yildiz or Conceicao on the ball in the second half. Tudor left it surprisingly late to make any changes, the first coming in the 77th minute just before going 2-0 down, despite the team looking like they could do with an injection of energy or creativity. Troubling that Vlahovic is the only Juventus centre-forward to have found the back of the net for the last month.

Juventus player ratings vs Como: A day to forget for Conceicao

Francisco Conceicao shooting against Como

Juventus ended a series of five straight draws by succumbing to defeat at the hands of their hosts Como at the Stadio Sinigaglia. ............

Juventus (4-3-3)

Michele Di Gregorio – 5

 ............

Pierre Kalulu – 5.5

The Frenchman showed his improving attacking arsenal, but his outing was blemished from the very start, as he lost track of Kempf on the opener.

Daniele Rugani – 5.5

A shaky display at the back from the experienced defender who almost gifted his former teammate Alvaro Morata a goal with a terrible backpass.

Lloyd Kelly – 5.5

 ............

Andrea Cambiaso – 5

The Italian full-back endured one of his poorest outing. He tried to cover for Kalulu’s absence on the second goal, but failed to stop Paz.

Teun Koopmeiners – 5.5

The Dutchman displayed some signs of improvement, but still not enough to convince the Bianconeri faitfhul. He couldn’t generate enough power behind his header when given the opportunity.

Manuel Locatelli – 6

 ............

Khephren Thuram – 6

 ............

Francisco Conceicao – 4.5

The Portuguese couldn’t keep his footing on several occasions, and was at times too selfish. His passing and crossing were also below bar.

Jonathan David – 5.5

The Canadian connected well with his teammates and led a few promising counterattacks. He also tapped the ball in on the disallowed goal. However, Juventus fans are expecting much from the from the striker.

Kenan Yildiz – 6

The Turkish star danced his way through the Como defenders at times, and set up promising chances for his teammates. However, he lost steam in the second half after getting frustrated with his teammates.

Substitutes

Dusan Vlahovic – 5.5

 ............

Weston McKennie – 5

 ............

Filip Kostic – N/A

Joao Mario – N/A

Igor Tudor has explained why he decided to give Dusan Vlahovic just over 10 minutes of game time for Juventus’s 2-0 defeat away against Como in Serie A on Sunday afternoon, and believes that he was right to switch from a back three to a back four despite his side’s defeat at the Stadio Sinigaglia.  ............

The 2-0 loss against Como was Juventus and Tudor’s first of the 2025-26 campaign, but more concerning is the fact that they have not won in any competition in more than a month, dating back to the 4-3 victory over Inter on September 13. ............

“It was a difficult game against a well-organised team,” Tudor said after full-time.

“We conceded this goal from a set piece, but we did interesting things, like they did in the first half. In the second, it was a bit fragmented because of the way they played. After the 2-0, the game was over.” ............

And on the decision to switch to a back four following the recent injury to Gleison Bremer, Tudor said: “We believe that this was the best thing for the team. I think it was the right choice regardless of the result. We got close to their area but missed the final pass or shot.” ............

“It was right to try with two strikers at the end, but you have to run against Como,” Tudor said. “It’s not easy to cover. We got hit on the counter attack, and at 2-0, the game was over. There was nothing more to do.”

And when asked if he is ‘worried’ about his job security after the Como defeat, Tudor replied: “I’m always worried about everything, that’s the life of a coach.” ............

Tudor reveals incoming change in defence, shrugs off Juventus sack talk

150205010-b9070645-db03-4434-83ba-53a653e8bc27.jpg

Juventus manager Igor Tudor admits he could adopt a new defensive style following the team’s first defeat of the season.

The Bianconeri were hoping to end their five-match streak of successive draws with a win in Como, but they instead succumbed to a 0-2 loss after failing to find the back of the net. ............

After the contest, Tudor was asked about his team’s tendency to concede goals from set-pieces, as Como’s first goal stemmed from a corner kick.

The Croatian admitted that his players are struggling with the zonal marking, so it could be time to resort to a more traditional man-to-man marking.

“That’s a good question. Maybe we can start man-marking and share the responsibility more,” said Tudor in his post-match press conference.

“Man-marking might be an idea. We’ll talk to the players and see what they have to say about it.” ............

“A coach is always worried; the answer is obvious. I’ve been hearing about decisive matches for 30 years now, and it’s something that doesn’t interest me much.

“At the moment, I’m only thinking about how to improve the team.” ............

“I’m disappointed with the result, but I saw some good things. We were very organised, but unfortunately, we conceded early on from a set piece.

“Then we did some good things, but we just lacked the final pass and shot. I had the feeling we lacked danger in the final meters, and unfortunately, we wasted a few good chances in the first half.” ............

“Because I wanted to play with two wingers, but it’s hard to hold up the team with a back four like that. It was right to try in the last twenty minutes. But then we were hit on the counterattack.”

“They didn’t explain things properly to him” – Fabregas & Tudor public spat continues

150114849-0f1ebf7a-e401-4f0b-b5a0-31c74e92f677.jpg

Como manager, Cesc Fabregas, and his Juventus counterpart Igor Tudor extended their public following Sunday’s contest at the Sinigaglia.

The Croatian had fired the first bullet by describing the Lariani as a ‘fake small club’, citing their immense financial means. He also claimed that the Spaniard has the advantage of choosing which players to buy, with the hierarchy always keen to satisfy his demands. ............

Nevertheless, the war of words between the two managers didn’t end with the final whistle, but it was reignited in the press room. ............

“Mister Tudor manages a great club. He said I buy all the players, but perhaps they didn’t explain things to him properly,” stung the Arsenal legend Fabregas in his post-match press conference.

“Tudor is the one who has the obligation of winning every time at Juventus, not us. We’re a different story.” ............

The Juventus boss was then informed of his colleague’s statements, but tried to avoid making another controversial comment.

“That’s not an appropriate question for this moment. I don’t know what Fabregas said; it’s his opinion, I’m just going to say my own.” ............

Como 2 - Juventus 0: Initial reaction and random observations

FBL-ITA-SERIE A-COMO-JUVENTUS

Coming out of the first international break of the season, Juventus provided us with one of the most thrilling domestic games we’ve seen in a good amount of time. A seven-goal thriller, last month’s Derby d’Italia win was a comeback in which Juve showed some promising fight under circumstances that we certainly don’t see every day. ............

Juventus now have a number other than zero in the loss column after Sunday afternoon’s 2-0 loss to Como on the shores of Lake Como. It was, unfortunately, yet another disappointing performance in what has turned into a strng of them following the win over Inter last month. And not only that, but Juventus saw one of the game’s brightest young talents, Como attacking midfielder Nico Paz, continue his brilliant start to the 2025-26 campaign with a sublime assist and maybe an even better goal, leading the lakeside club to their first win over Juventus since 1952 by the same 2-0 scoreline that we saw on this day. ............

Juventus still hasn’t won another game ever since that wild 4-3 victory over their arch rivals at the Allianz Stadium. It’s now been five draws and this first loss of the season in all competitions ever since that crazy September night.

And it was pretty clear from the moment that Como took a 1-0 lead all of 3 1/2 minutes in, that Juventus were on the back foot and things needed to change in a hurry to have any chance of getting points against a Como side that was pressing like absolute madmen from the get-go. The problem was, though, that Juve didn’t exactly look like they had multiple goals in them on this day. ............

The fact that Juventus started the season under Igor Tudor with three straight wins seems so far away now. Maybe because it is even though on the calendar it’s not a huge period of time. Since Juventus beat Inter, they’ve seen their most important player at the back injure his troublesome knee again, they’ve seen the same issues of last season come back to the fore, they’re struggling to both create goal scoring chances as well as simply score the chances they do have on a consistent basis.

Sure, Juve outshot Como 15-12 on the day. But even with that, Juventus had all of 0.88 xG — which isn’t exactly impressive when you consider the number of shots they actually attempted on the day. ............

Things aren’t trending in the right direction for Tudor or this squad as a whole. There’s only so much three straight wins can buy you when things quickly turn for the worse like they have for Juventus ever since the Inter win. This team is worryingly starting to feel a lot like the squad that Tudor came in to try and get into the Champions League last season despite all of the changes they tried to make to the attacking area of the field. Unfortunately, a lot of the other areas of the field remain the same — and knowing how things went on that front last season, that’s not necessarily a good thing.

Juventus were clearly the second-best team on the field at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Sunday. If we say the same type of thing three days from now at a much bigger and much more famous stadium, then it’s probably not going to be after a win — and that, my friends, is far from the kind of start Juventus needed to begin this post-international break run of games.

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

............

  • Juventus going behind less than four minutes in, that’s just not helping matters.
  • Still kinda wondering what Pierre Kalulu was doing on Como’s goal. What happened to the lockdown defender from a season ago? There seems to be a whole lot more mistakes in his game these days. ............
  • At least Tudor went with a 4-3-3? It feels more forced because of injuries, but at least he did it.
  • That said, when your partnership in central defense is Daniele Rugani and Lloyd Kelly, how optimistic can you be that things will go well or you at the back?
  • Take away a few players because of injuries and that Juventus bench looks awfully short of options and certainly not that impressive at all. But hey, the highest paid player in Serie A was once again on the bench, so that should at least boost the value of the bench unit, right? (Don’t answer that.)
  • Juventus had nine shots in the first half. None of them were on goal.
  • Como had six shots in the first half. Half of them were on target. ............
  • How many times did a Juventus player fall down because they slipped in this game? Feel like it was a good four or five times at least — and it was usually an attacking player doing so. Blame Lake Como maybe? I don’t know, but it sure would have been nice for those stumbles to not happen during important passages of play. ............
  • It took nearly 63 minutes for Juventus to record a shot on goal. It was a rather simple save off a header from Teun Koopmeiners. Of course, with how open he was in the box, it probably should have resulted in more, but that’s just how it goes with a certain Dutchman these days. ............
  • It’s the 70th minute, Juventus are down a goal and Tudor still hasn’t made a sub or looks all that close to doing so. What exactly are we doing here, folks?
  • Those first subs happened eight minutes later. What were we waiting for exactly?
  • Como scored two minutes later. Good times.
  • I really hope this team isn’t turning into one where it’s basically “Let’s hope Kenan or Chico does something cool” most of the time, but it’s starting to feel a little bit like that and I don’t like it. No matter how talented those two guys are, they can’t be your only source of goal chance creation. ............
  • All of one Juve player, Francisco Conceição, had a Sofascore rating of 7 or more. That feels about right for how this game played out.
  • In conclusion, that is not good. It feels like a Como player just started pressing me while I type this sentence. ............

Will Miretti & Zhegrova return for Real Madrid vs Juventus clash?

Juventus, buone notizie dall'inferemeria: Zhegrova e Miretti tornano in gruppo | OneFootball

Juventus are enduring miserable times ahead of Wednesday’s showdown against Real Madrid, but they’ll be hoping to regain the services of Fabio Miretti and Edon Zhegrova. ............

The Italian midfielder has been ruled out of action since suffering a muscle injury in the friendly against Juventus Next Gen, so he has yet to make a competitive appearance this season.

However, Tudor revealed that the 22-year-old will rejoin group training on Monday.

Therefore, the Juventus youth product to earn a call-up for the Real Madrid contest. ............

On the other hand, Zhegrova’s situation is far more complicated.

The Kosovar has been dealing with a groin issue since last season, which has been preventing him from building any sort of momentum this campaign.

At this stage, Juventus don’t intend to take any further risks with the 26-year-old, especially following the setbacks suffered by Bremer and Cabal, who returned to the treatment table swiftly following their respective returns from injury.

Therefore, Zhegrova’s call-up for the Madrid trip remains unlikely.

Openda tipped to replace Conceicao against Real Madrid

Loic Openda

Juventus boss Igor Tudor is expected to ring the changes up front ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Real Madrid, with Francisco Conceicao potentially making way for Loic Openda. ............

In Como, Tudor unleashed a 4-3-3 formation spearheaded by Jonathan David, who only managed to score a disallowed goal in the first half.

The Canadian hasn’t found the back of the net since his Juventus debut when he broke the deadlock in the 2-0 win over Parma.

Nevertheless, the 46-year-old tactician has given him the nod in the club’s last three outings across all competitions, leaving Dusan Vlahovic on the bench. ............

Openda could be tailor-made for this particular contest, as Real Madrid are expected to leave acres of space at the back when going forward, while the Belgian is renowned for his blistering pace on counterattacks. ............

While Kenan Yildiz remains untouchable, Conceicao could be the one to make way for Openda. After all, the Portuguese winger produced what was arguably his worst performance in a Juventus shirt on Sunday.

Hence, the former Porto star could start on the bench this Wednesday, with Openda getting the nod on the right wing.

Preview: Real Madrid vs Juventus - prediction, team news, lineups

PREVIEW | Real Madrid vs Juventus - team news, lineups, predictions

Two European heavyweights will convene at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, as Real Madrid play host to Juventus in the Champions League.

Of the clubs' 21 prior meetings in Europe's elite competition, twice they have clashed in finals, with Madrid coming out on top in both 1998 and 2017.

Match preview

Having made very little impact on the Champions League in recent years, the Italian giants finished 20th in last season's league phase, before losing to PSV Eindhoven in the knockout playoffs.

Their main aim this time is to sneak into the top eight and go straight through to the last 16; however, Igor Tudor's side are already under pressure to produce results following two chaotic draws.

On matchday one, the Bianconeri shipped two goals in the closing stages and seemed bound for defeat against Borussia Dortmund, but they somehow scored twice deep into stoppage time and salvaged a 4-4 home draw.

Last time out, they were given a taste of their own medicine when ex-Juve loanee Renato Veiga netted a last-gasp leveller to make it 2-2 at El Madrigal.

That Villarreal result was one of five consecutive stalemates - the club's longest such run for nearly two decades - and Juventus have also drawn five of their last seven league or group fixtures in the Champions League.

Having won only one of their last 11 away games at Europe's top level, Juve now head to Spain following a domestic defeat: Tudor's men lost 2-0 to Como on Sunday afternoon, leaving them fifth in the Serie A standings.

Team News

 ............

While Madrid's main man is Mbappe - the Champions League's leading scorer with five goals so far - Juventus have yet to settle on a focal point up front.

Tudor is expected to pick Francisco Conceicao and Kenan Yildiz in support of a lone striker; Dusan Vlahovic and Jonathan David lead Lois Openda in that fight for selection. Incidentally, David scored a shock winner for Lille against Los Blancos last season.

The visitors will again be without defensive rock Bremer, plus left-back Juan Cabal, but Fabio Miretti has now resumed training and Edon Zhegrova should be fit enough to make the bench.

It remains to be seen if the Bianconeri stick with a back four at the Bernabeu, after Tudor surprisingly ditched his preferred 3-4-2-1 setup on Sunday.

Real Madrid possible starting lineup:

Courtois; Valverde, Militao, Asencio, Carreras; Tchouameni, Camavinga; Mastantuono, Guler, Vinicius; Mbappe

Juventus possible starting lineup:

Di Gregorio; Gatti, Rugani, Kelly; Kalulu, Locatelli, Thuram, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; David

We say: Real Madrid 2-0 Juventus

None of Real Madrid's last 61 group or league-phase matches have finished goalless - a run that dates back a whole decade - and that streak should continue.

Juventus will arrive at one of football's toughest arenas having gone six games without a win, while leaking plenty of goals - it all points to a home win.

Champions League Preview: Real Madrid vs Juventus – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction

Estadio Santiago Bernabeu is the venue as Real Madrid and Juventus lock horns in a high-stakes UEFA Champions League showdown.

Tudor is on the precipice of an early-season dismissal after his side extended their dreadful winless streak to six matches on Sunday afternoon. Indeed, Como beat Juventus 2-0 at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia to end their miserable run of five consecutive draws in all competitions. ............

Furthermore, a frosty relationship with sporting director Damien Comolli doesn’t help Tudor’s cause, highlighting the importance of beating Madrid against the odds.

However, that could prove easier said than done, especially given Los Blancos’ red-hot form ahead of this encounter. Free-scoring Kylian Mbappe found a late winner to inspire Xabi Alonso’s side to a narrow 1-0 victory at Getafe last night, putting himself on the brink of history.

The 26-year-old Frenchman could match Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of scoring in 12 successive appearances with a goal against Juventus. ............

Match Preview

Real Madrid

 ............

Juventus

Despite losing 12 of their 22 previous matches against the Madrid powerhouse in all competitions (W8, D2), Juventus can draw confidence from beating Los Merengues in their last encounter on Spanish soil. However, that fixture dates back to 2018.

Things may get worse before they get better for the Allianz outfit. In addition to having to fight from behind to avoid defeat in their opening two Champions League clashes against Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal, Tudor’s charges have massively struggled on the road this season.

Juventus have only won one away game in 2025/26 (D3, L1), conceding before halftime in their last three such outings. As if that’s not worrying enough, the visitors have gone winless in five consecutive road fixtures in the Champions League since defeating RB Leipzig in October 2024 (D4, L1).

Slow out of the blocks, Juventus have failed to get on the scoresheet before halftime in four matches on the trot. Another sluggish start could prove fatal for the Bianconeri as they seek a precious victory against familiar foes.

Team News

 ............

On the other hand, Juventus cannot call upon their standout defender Gleison Bremer for this ‘make or break’ contest. Long-serving absentee Arkadiusz Milik is also unavailable. The same applies to Juan Cabal, Fabio Miretti, and marquee summer signing Edon Zhegrova.

Real Madrid vs Juventus Potential Starting Line-ups

Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Valverde, Militao, Asencio, Carreras; Tchouameni, Camavinga; Mastantuono, Guler, Vinicius; Mbappe.

Juventus (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Gatti, Rugani, Kelly; Kalulu, Locatelli, Thuram, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; David.

Real Madrid vs Juventus Prediction

In addition to Tudor’s job, a place in the Champions League knockouts could be on the line for Juventus. Therefore, the stakes are high for the visiting side, who last won a competitive fixture in early September.

However, we cannot back the Bianconeri for success with any real conviction. Instead, we expect Madrid to accelerate Tudor’s exit.

Prediction: Real Madrid to Win

Former Juventus captain Danilo believes that Juventus are in for a tricky season, but insists that a victory away against Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday evening could be the turning point for the Bianconeri and under-fire head coach Igor Tudor. ............

More concerning is the fact that the Old Lady have not won in any competition since September 13.

Tuesday’s reports claim that Tudor will be given six games, until the next international break, to prove his worth in Turin, which begins with a trip to the Bernabeu on Wednesday night. ............

“We need togetherness in these moments, everyone has to help each other. Now is time for the Champions League, which is another story altogether, but Real Madrid could be an opportunity.

“Juventus never gives up in difficulty. I’m not part of the daily goings-on, so giving an opinion would be a lack of respect for the group, the coach and the club. From the outside, though, it looks like a different spirit compared to a year ago. There is chemistry between the players and coach which had not been there before.

“The Bernabeu is a very important test. Madrid are clearly having a much more positive moment, but if Juve can get a result, and they can do it, it could be the game that changes their season.” ............

“We need patience. They’ve changed lots of players and the transfers came late, which affected their preparation. It won’t be an easy year for Juve, but I have faith in Tudor.” ............

Real Madrid vs Juventus Preview: Start Time, Team News

Real Madrid vs Juventus: Prediction, Preview, lineups, tips and odds on October 22, 2025 – Ratingbet.com

Coming off their hard-fought 1-0 win over Getafe in La Liga, Real Madrid face Juventus in game three of the league phase of the Champions League.

Los Blancos sit on six points, winning their opening two games against Marseille and FC Kairat. In the last match, they scored five against the Kazakhstan team, with Kylian Mbappe hitting a hat-trick. ............

Juventus are also unbeaten in the competition, but sit on just two points from their opening two games. They have faced two tough teams in Borussia Dortmund at home and Villarreal on the road. The game against the former was unbelievable, scoring two goals in added time to rescue a point in a crazy 4-4 draw. ............

The roles were reversed against Villarreal as a 90th-minute strike denied them a great three points on the road. After this game, they have a much easier schedule, so if they can get something, they will be in a good position to at least qualify for the playoff rounds.

The Italians have not won in their last six games in all competitions, drawing five. That streak was broken with a 2-0 loss to Como this past weekend.

The two teams last met recently in this past summer's Club World Cup tournament. Los B;ancos won 1-0 in the Round of 16 game thanks to a Gonzalo Garcia strike. Over the years, in the Champions League, it's been a very competitive match-up. ............

Thibaut Courtois says Juventus are a ‘dangerous’ team, but his press conference was dominated by questions about Vinicius Junior: ‘It’s not always easy when the whole stadium is targeting you.’

Belgium international Courtois held a press conference on Tuesday, on the eve of a Champions League game against Juventus. ............

Tomorrow, Courtois will make his 300th appearance with Real Madrid.

“I’m really proud of this number. I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid as a kid, and making my 300 appearances makes me proud,” he said.

Juventus are a dangerous team. They don’t come from a great moment, but we know they are dangerous in attack and defence. It will be tough, but we’ll need intensity.” ............

“The preparation is the same. Good preparation, good training and good rest,” said Courtois.

“We want to be ready from a tactical point of view. When the Bernabeu pushes us, everything becomes easier for us. It gives us energy to keep fighting.” ............

Questions about Vinicius Junior dominated the press conference as the Brazilian was criticised by Getafe players over the weekend for his attitude.
