Not just Bremer – Another five Juventus stars return early from summer vacation

 

 

Although the pre-season will officially kick off on Thursday, six Juventus players have already reported to Continassa.

 

The Bianconeri’s off-season was shortened by their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. ............

 

As reported earlier this week, Bremer made an early appearance in Turin, returning from his vacation prematurely as he’s hellbent on regaining his optimal physical condition after more than nine months on the sidelines. ............

 

The 28-year-old has been making important leaps in his recovery path, and he’s looking to take part in the first summer friendly against Reggiana next week. Hence, he insisted on making a swift return to Continassa and working on a personalised program before rejoining group training when the camp begins.

 

But Bremer wasn’t the only Juventus player to report early to training, as Lloyd Kelly, Juan Cabal, Mattia Perin, Fabio Miretti, and Nicolò Savona have also returned to the club’s facility. ............

 

Cabal suffered a similar injury to Bremer last November while on international duty, so he still has some work to do before returning to the field.

 

As for Perin, he missed the Club World Cup as he had to undergo surgery to repair the damage in his hand. The same goes for Miretti who’s healing from a shoulder operation after hurting himself during his loan stint at Genoa.

 

Moreover, Kelly and Savona picked up knocks during the tournament, and could be out action for the next few weeks.

Opinion: Why Juventus is heading for another mediocre season

 

 

Juventus eventually secured a top-four finish in Serie A last season, but expectations from their supporters are far higher going into the new campaign. The Bianconeri showed promise towards the end of the previous term and delivered several strong performances at the Club World Cup, highlighting their potential to compete at a higher level. ............

 

Much of the summer has been spent addressing unresolved issues, notably around the managerial situation and the uncertain future of Dusan Vlahovic. These distractions have taken attention away from strengthening the squad and refining preparations on the training ground.

An Andrea Cambiaso-inspired Juventus beat their hosts Borussia Dortmund, in a pre-season friendly held at the Signal Iduna Park.

 

After a mix-up in the lineup announcement, it turned out that Igor Tudor decided to maintain his 3-4-2-1 formation after all. Jonathan David led the line, supported by Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao, while Cambiaso and João Mario started on the wings. ............

 

In the early going, the German side had the upper hand in terms of possession. However, it was Juventus who broke the deadlock in the 16th minute as Kalulu pounced on a poor clearance to send a cross to the mouth of the goal. Cambiaso was in the right place at the right time to beat Gregor Kobel from close range, even though it wasn’t the neatest of touches. ............

 

After the break, BVB tried to assert control on the match, but were once again punished by a slick passing move from Juventus. Mario brought the ball forward with a swift run down the right flank, before laying it to David at the centre. Juventus head coach Igor Tudor admits that it is difficult to properly analyse pre-season friendlies, but is pleased by the attitude that he saw from his players during their 2-1 victory over Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund on Sunday. ............

 

“It’s hard to analyse friendlies, there’s still some freshness and speed in the legs missing. But the boys did well,” Tudor said after full-time on Sunday. 

 

“It was a good session for us, and a serious match. Now we’ll work on playing time, focus on Wednesday and Atalanta, and then we’ll get started. There’s not a lot of time left and we need to start thinking about Serie A.

 

“The important thing today was that nobody got injured, so that’s good. Winning doesn’t matter much, it’s important to show the right attitude, to be in the right condition and prepare as best we can for the important games.” ............

 

 

Tudor was joined in the Juventus press room by double goalscorer Cambiaso, who said: “We played a serious game, and we’re happy because we’ve had a great week here in Germany. We trained really well and we ended it with a good game.

 

“My objective is to be more decisive in the opponents’ area. Playing a bit higher up, I can be more incisive [like today]. I’m starting my third year with Juventus and I’m very proud, I want to be important for the team and for my teammates.

 

“As a group we have to focus in every training session, every game, and to always give everything. The coach is working us a lot and, from that point of view, we’re working well.
