Juventus 0-0 Milan – Tudor defends substituting Yildiz & Conceicao in stalemate

212720490-bbbdcd1e-6360-47c3-98ff-b1481487ee7d.jpg

Juventus were held to a goalless draw by Milan at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday evening, with Igor Tudor’s side once again left frustrated in front of goal.

The Bianconeri battled hard in a cagey contest but failed to find a breakthrough, extending their streak of low-scoring outings under the Croatian coach. ............

“It was the kind of match we expected – difficult, against a strong team,” Tudor said. “We wanted to win, both sides created chances, and in the end, a draw is fair.” ............

“Yildiz, Conceição and David were tired – they’ve played so much. We tried to finish with more cover and energy.” ............

“Bremer felt some discomfort and we didn’t want to risk him. After the break, he’ll be fine.” ............

“With two more goals, we’d have two more wins. That’s football. We have to keep working – we’ll always be on track.”

Juventus 0-0 Milan – Kalulu: ‘We’re Not Happy With The Point’ in 0-0 draw

202546741-c811c15e-7362-4cb1-a1e2-143dc266ff74.jpg

Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu expressed disappointment after the Bianconeri’s 0-0 draw with Milan, describing the result as “a point we’re obliged to take” after another cagey contest. ............

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Kalulu said his side wanted more from the evening:

“It was a complicated game against a very strong team in form. Both sides had chances to score. We’re not satisfied with the draw, but we have to take it and focus on the next match.” ............

The Frenchman was once again deployed in a more advanced role and looked good on the right flank. ............

“Everyone has their preferences, but in that position, I can maybe score more goals. My goal is to be as complete as possible – maybe in a month or two, you’ll prefer seeing me higher up the pitch.” ............

Asked about the team’s ambitions, Kalulu was clear:

“Our goal is always to stay at the top. That never changes.” ............

Juventus 0 - AC Milan 0: Initial reaction and random observations

202805462-c53103ce-ec39-4d7f-907d-ba2cac454ff7.jpg

Following Sunday’s scoreless draw with Max Allegri and AC Milan, these two things are true about Juventus …

  • Juve have not lost a game during the six-game stretch of fixtures between the September international break and the October international break.
  • Juve have not won a game in over three weeks since the wild comeback against Inter Milan in the Derby d’Italia that started the post-international break slate of fixtures.

This is where things stand after when happened in Allegri’s first game back at the Allianz Stadium following his departure from the club he coached to five Serie A titles and a couple of Champions League final appearances. The state of the current squad doesn’t exactly feel all that much better than when Allegri left — and that was proof once again on Sunday as Juve struggled with more inconsistencies up front in the final third as well as errors that nearly cost them dearly and could have seen them suffer their first defeat of the 2025-26 season.

Plus, it always helps when your opponent misses a penalty like Christian Pulisic did in the 53rd minute to keep the game scoreless and give Juventus a chance to actually get the win over the subsequent 30-plus minutes. ............

205352900-09733c57-bac5-4e75-a62c-5cf2e00ed2ca.jpg

Whether it was that big Jonathan David stumble in the first half that saw one of Juve’s few chances up to that point go for naught or Mike Maignan’s big close-range save on Federico Gatti, it’s not like Igor Tudor’s side was putting a ton of pressure on the Milan defense.

210833442-6d01defd-699d-4afe-8170-ea39dc5d7573.jpg

Just on the face of it, is a draw against an in-form Milan side like they are right now a necessarily bad thing? No, despite Juve’s recent success in this matchup between the two historic rivals.

But when you pile on draw after draw after draw after draw and now a fifth straight draw, it becomes a little worrisome to say the least. ............

On this night, a predictably cagey matchup proved to be exactly that. Both teams struggled for a large swaths of the game to get attacking momentum going, with Juve really only having to sustain a big Milan push coming both before and after the PK miss by Pulisic. Other than that, it’s not like either goalkeeper was very busy, although both Maignan and Michele Di Gregorio had to make a few big saves apiece.

Ultimately, this night will be remembered more for what either team was unable to do in the final third more than anything else. ............

203005644-2c4ba9bd-c0a5-4c49-b6ea-26faf79aa514.jpg

There’s a lot for Tudor to think about during these next two weeks of the international break — especially since the later part of October isn’t going to get any easier domestically and in Europe.

No matter what, though, this will be a 90 or so minutes in which we can all probably say we will want to forget about as soon as possible during the international break. At least that’s how I feel all about that.

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Don’t look now, but with Sunday night’s result Juventus officially have as many draws in Serie A as they do wins this season. ............
  • But hey, at least Juve got a clean sheet, right?
  • That’s the first one of those since the final day of August. That’s nearly six weeks! That’s a long time.
  • David will get a lot of stick for that first-half miss he had — and rightfully so. That doesn’t mean it was an easy thing he had to do, essentially having to try and get around the ball by moving his body backwards and it clearly was his downfall from there as he somehow got airborne. Not saying I forgive him for it, just trying to figure out just how the hell it actually happened. ............

202905870-187fb28b-25f3-4d96-9518-f4f0b6a8d056.jpg

  • Daniele Rugani was thrust into the starting lineup — his first start for Juve in a year and a half! — and pretty much did exactly what he needed to do. That’s the Rugani I know and appreciate even if he’s never lived up to the hype from a decade or so ago.
  • That doesn’t mean I don’t want to see Bremer in there against Como two weeks from now. I want him to be healthy, happy and playing well because this team needs that desperately.
  • It wasn’t a surprise that Allegri got a warm reception before kickoff, but it’s still very nice to see.
  • You know who didn’t? Adrien Rabiot, who got a good amount of whistles form the curva after his first shot attempt of the night went flying well over the Juve goal. One of these guys is not like the other.
  • Kenan Yildiz with his second relatively quiet game of the week. He attempted just one shot, which was blocked, and was subbed off in the 69th minute. (Nice?) Tudor himself said afterward that Yildiz was looking tired. The kid is tired! He’s played a ton of minutes already this season after a 2024-25 season in which he also played a ton of minutes as a teenager. Just because he’s 20 doesn’t mean he’s invisible to fatigue — and it’s showing. ............

203006063-8aa81b61-da05-45ed-af68-3c76350a7a6b.jpg

  • David, who also part of that three-man swap, touched the ball a total of 16 times.
  • What I’m trying to say here is that Juve’s two main strikers barely saw any of the ball against Milan.
  • To his credit, though, even though Vlahovic didn’t see much of the ball at all after coming on he did try and will his teammates to push forward more and try and get something going. It didn’t work, but he tried.
  • I’m still not convinced in regard to Pierre Kalulu being Juve’s main wingback on the right. ............
  • Di Gregorio didn’t look completely convincing in goal against Milan, but he made that big save on Rafa Leao late in the game so I guess I am able to forgive him a little bit.
  • Just in case you were wondering, the Leao shot from midfield that put a bit of a scare into Di Gregorio had an xG of 0.01. Sounds about right. ............
  • There was a point in this game where Luka Modric was marking Yildiz a couple of times and that means you had a 20-year-old trying to get past a 40-year-old and it was the latter who shut things down to force a corner. ............
  • After the last few weeks, I feel like a two-week break from watching Juventus will probably do a lot of us a good amount of good mental health. ............

Tudor ‘didn’t hear’ stadium jeers, defends struggling Juventus star & names Scudetto favourites

Juventus vs Milan: Tudor reveals why David gets the nod over Vlahovic - Football Italia

Juventus manager Igor Tudor made some interesting comments following his team’s goalless draw against Milan, especially when asked about the full-time whistles. ............

While the Bianconeri were the slightly better team in the first half, Max Allegri’s men were more dangerous after the break. They came close to breaking the deadlock, but Christian Pulisic sent his penalty kick high and wide, while Rafael Leao spurned two easy chances following his introduction. ............

“After we switched to a 3-5-2, they stopped creating chances,” said Tudor while speaking to the press after the match.

“It was a difficult match, it’s a shame because we tried to win. The draw is fair.”

“The changes? It was a choice we had to make. We had planned to take off Conceicao at that moment, due to his physical condition. David and Yildiz were tired.

“To send the message that we wanted to win, we put two forwards, and three in the middle to contain well in that area of the pitch.” ............

“Pressure is part of this club. I liked David’s display, but I didn’t like that he couldn’t score. He’s a goalscorer, but even if he didn’t score, he did well.

“You make decisions, you watch, you observe, and off you go.”

When the referee blew the final whistle, the Juventus fans in the stands responded with jeers, voicing their irritation with the team’s performance. And yet, Tudor claimed he didn’t hear them, but is rather satisfied with the team’s status.

“Jeers? I didn’t hear them, I immediately headed down the tunnel.”

“I’m satisfied. This is a positive, united dressing room, with a mentality of working hard and always doing better. We’ve made very few mistakes in games; I’ve played about twenty since I’ve been here. None of them were easy, but we’ve made very few mistakes. ............

“Nobody likes Juve drawing or not winning. I have an eye and a conscience when the team does what it should and when it doesn’t.”

Finally, the Croatian identified Inter as the best-equipped team to clinch the Scudetto title.

“I don’t think this is the right time to pass judgment on Juventus (as a Scudetto contender). Inter are above the rest. This is how I see it, and then we’ll see what the future holds.

“You will never be a foe” – Allegri given hero’s welcome by Juventus fans

202906375-5a167b83-6070-4832-9899-9d2ab286d02d.jpg

Max Allegri received a warm reception from the adoring Bianconeri crowd ahead of the big Serie A clash between Juventus and Milan.

Unfortunately for the fans in attendance at the Allianz Stadium and viewers watching at home, the encounter didn’t live up to the expectations, ending in a goalless draw. ............

The Juventus fans jeered while the stadium announcer was listing Milan’s starting lineup, as per custom.

However, the mood drastically changed when Allegri’s name was announced, drawing applause from the black-and-white army.

The ultras in the Curva Sud then held a banner that read: “We are always proud of you, thank you for everything, Max Allegri.” ............

Moreover, these ultras groups had already posted a statement on social media, expressing their gratitude towards the 58-year-old: “You will never be an opponent. A great coach. Because you may not have entertained us, but you brought so much joy to us, mister. Welcome home.”

Allegri also shared a few hugs and laughs with some of his former players before the match, including Kenan Yildiz. ............

After the contest, the Livorno native admitted that his return to the stadium was a rather emotional affair.

“It was emotional. I saw so many people who supported me during my eight years at Juventus, people with whom we celebrated and even cried, because there were some difficult moments,” said Allegri in his post-match interview.

“I thank them and the fans, who welcomed me so warmly. Now I’m at Milan, we took home a point, but we could have done better: when you have to ‘bite’ the opponent.”

Refereeing expert questions Milan’s penalty against Juventus: “No legs contact”

Guida si inventa un rigore per il Milan: la Juventus riceve il karma istantaneo e Pulisic tira alle stelle — Tribuna.com

Former Serie A referee Luca Marelli raises doubt over the penalty kick that was awarded to Milan against Juventus on Sunday. ............

Although the contest ended goalless, Milan had several chances to break the deadlock, no more so than the spot-kick that Marco Guida awarded them in the second half.

It all stemmed from a clever long ball from Luka Modric, who picked up Santi Gimenez’s run to the box.

While the ball was sailing in his direction, the Mexican striker was involved in a tussle inside the box with Juventus defender Lloyd Kelly, before going to the ground.

The referee immediately pointed towards the spot, and the VAR was happy with the decision, choosing not to intervene. ............

Nevertheless, many Juventus supporters were still livid with the decision, considering it a harsh call, since Kelly didn’t commit a clear violation. ............

For his part, Marelli resonates with the black-and-white fanbase, noting that the English defender didn’t clip Gimenez.

“There was contact, but I’m having a hard time understanding if there was a violation,” said the reputable former referee during his post-match appearance.

“Guida assessed it while being in an excellent position. Kelly’s arms may have been involved, but there was no contact between the legs.

Pressing: La moviola di Juve-Milan: rigore giusto per i rossoneri? Video

“Dismissal? It can’t constitute a red card because Gimenez didn’t have possession.”

This isn’t the first time this season that questionable decisions have gone against Juventus. Igor Tudor was left fuming following two grave errors committed against his team in the 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona.

How Tudor changed Juventus system after taking off Yildiz against Milan

David, Vlahovic e Openda senza gerarchie e senza certezze, l'attacco non funziona | Calciomercato

Juventus had to settle for a 0-0 draw at home against Milan in Serie A on Sunday evening, in a game that saw head coach Igor Tudor shuffle his tactical approach with 20 minutes to go following the withdrawal of Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao. ............

There were boos at full-time at the Allianz Stadium, but Tudor insists that he didn’t hear the noise from the crowd.

Several Juventus players have come under criticism for their performances in the 0-0 draw against Milan, particularly centre-forward Jonathan David, who is without a goal for Juventus since August.

David was part of a triple substitution after 70 minutes on Tuesday, which also say the fatigued Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao come off. ............

They were replaced by Dusan Vlahovic, Lois Openda and Khpehren Thuram as Tudor switched from his regular 3-4-2-1 to a more ‘traditional’ 3-5-2, with two out and out centre-forwards and a three-man central midfield. ............

Vlahovic and Openda played together as strike partners, but were unable to find the magic moment against Milan.

Capello criticises both sides after ‘boring’ Juventus 0-0 Milan draw

Milan, occhio a sottovalutare Tudor: i precedenti con Allegri sono sorprendenti - Spazio Milan

Fabio Capello did not enjoy the performance he saw from either side during the 0-0 draw between his former sides Juventus and Milan in Serie A on Sunday evening, describing the first half as ‘boring’, and criticising both sides for lacking courage. ............

Juventus, who have now drawn five matches in succession across all competitions, were booed off the pitch, while Milan have been criticised for missing their chance to stay at the top of the table heading into the October international break. ............

“Juve-Milan was not a great show,” Capello said.

“A very boring first half, the two teams didn’t have the courage to take any risks. We saw a little bit more in the second half. From two teams like that, we were expecting more of a spectacle. They were all rightly booed at the end.” ............

“I didn’t understand the decision to replace Conceicao,” Capello said.

Cambiaso reveals how Tudor improved Juventus after taking over from Motta

202906487-14d2abdd-7d70-4dd4-aeb6-98814a645dd8.jpg

Juventus wing-back Andrea Cambiaso reveals two factors that drastically improved with the arrival of Igor Tudor.

The wingback was initially a key figure in Thiago Motta’s plans last season, and even donned the captain’s armband at one point. However, the two men’s relationship deteriorated afterwards, and the Italy international was dropped from the lineup at one point. ............

The versatile player identifies two key attributes that the team currently possesses, suggesting they were sorely missing during Motta’s ill-fated reign.

“We have much more enthusiasm than last season,” admitted the former Genoa man while chatting with the press following the goalless draw against Milan on Sunday.

“The group has changed, but not that much. We’re more united, and there’s more desire to play together. We must carry this enthusiasm through to the end, regardless of the results.” ............

Moreover, Cambiaso wasn’t too surprised by how Sunday’s big Serie A showdown played out, while praising his former boss, Max Allegri.

“I wasn’t expecting anything different. I know the coach, and I knew it would be a cagey affair as it’s been the case in recent years between Juventus and Milan. We could have created more offensively, we tried, but we didn’t manage it.” ............

Juventus counting on double injury boost after the international break

Infortunati Juve, occhi puntati su Bremer e Miretti: ultime

Juventus are reportedly optimistic about recovering two players once they resume their campaign after the October international break.

The Bianconeri had started their campaign on a bright note, winning their first three Serie A fixtures. ............

Therefore, the international break could give Igor Tudor the opportunity to reflect on his choices, and also allow some of his players to fully heal. ............

Gleison Bremer should be available for his club’s upcoming encounter against Como.

The Bianconeri will resume their campaign with an away fixture against Cesc Fabregas’ men on October 19.

The Brazilian defender felt some discomfort in his operated left knee during Juve’s contest against Atalanta. Therefore, he was taken off as a precaution by the medical staff. ............

In addition to Bremer, Juventus could also welcome Fabio Miretti back to the fold. The midfielder returned to the base this summer following a positive loan spell at Genoa.

However, he has yet to make an appearance in a competitive fixture due to a muscle injury he suffered before the start of the season. ............
