AMAZONIAN The 44-year-old wore the Juve jersey between 1992 and 1998 before spending four years at the Tuscans, and while he expects a "fascinating" encounter between the Serie A rivals, he is confident the reigning Italian champions will emerge victorious. "I think that Juventus will progress. I can see them win at home and then draw or get a small defeat in the return," Torricelli told Goal. "I expect a tough match, though. There's a huge rivalry between these two teams and the tie will be even more fascinating because it's a European game. AMAZONIAN "Juventus are the better team in my opinion. Their squad is very complete and they have a lot of quality, while they also have an entertaining style of play. Pogba or Pjanic in, Lavezzi out – PSG’s plans for a summer revolution The Ligue 1 champions have shortlisted a number of high-profile names - with the Juventus star at the very top - while they are also preparing to bid farewell to several players. Mar 12, 2014 SPECIAL REPORT By Simone Rovera Paris Saint-Germain have made plenty of waves in the transfer market in recent years, luring stars such as Thiago Silva, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani to Ligue 1. AMAZONIAN And while the French giants are on course for a second successive domestic title and are cruising through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, they have no intention of cutting down on their spending. PSG's aim is to become the best team in Europe and if they fail to conquer the Champions League this season, then their summer activity should give them an even better chance next term. In order to reach the European summit, the Parisians are planning more major signings ahead of 2014-15. To make room for the new arrivals, they will offload a number of players from their first team squad. AMAZONIAN PSG are keen to add an extra centre-back to their squad and they have earmarked a number of players as potential defensive reinforcements. David Luiz of Chelsea, Mehdi Benatia of Roma and Eliaquim Mangala of Porto have all made the Ligue 1 champions' shortlist. Although they still have faith in Marquinhos, a more experienced partner for Thiago Silva is being considered. The titleholders are also keeping tabs on a number of right-backs and are eager to bring in some fresh competition for Gregory van der Wiel. Barcelona's Dani Alves is the club's dream target, but they accept it will be a difficult task luring the Brazil international away from his current club. Newcastle's Mathieu Debuchy is a cheaper alternative. In midfield, Juventus star Paul Pogba remains PSG's No.1 transfer target. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has held informal talks with his Juventus counterpart Andrea Agnelli to discuss a potential transfer. The PSG chief has also sat down with Pogba's agent Mino Raiola on a number of occasions in recent weeks while finalising the contract renewals of Maxwell and Blaise Matuidi. The Serie A champions will not let go of the energetic midfielder on the cheap, though, and will not open the bidding at less than €60 million. AMAZONIAN PSG have therefore already looked at alternatives and Miralem Pjanic is their Plan B. The Bosnia international is in talks with Roma over a new deal, but he could earn €4m per year at PSG against €3m per annum at his current club. Even if Pjanic does sign a contract extension with the Giallorossi, a summer move cannot be ruled out. However, the recent long-term injury to Kevin Strootman means Roma will now be more reluctant to sell. With Ezequiel Lavezzi possibly on his way out, PSG have set their sights on Eden Hazard to strengthen their attack, but there are two serious obstacles. One is Chelsea's valuation and the other is Jose Mourinho's admiration of the Belgium international. A transfer is therefore all but impossible. Another option is Pedro, who has had to settle for a spot on the bench at Barcelona more than he might be willing to accept. The Champions League challengers are also ready to bid farewell to a number of players, with Jeremy Menez all but certain to leave the Parc des Princes this summer. The versatile attacker has an expiring contract and a number of Serie A sides are closely monitoring his situation, including Juventus, AC Milan and Fiorentina. AMAZONIAN Another attacker who could be on the move come June is Lavezzi. The Argentine is happy and settled at PSG, but has been unable to replicate the form that saw him become a star at Napoli before his transfer to Ligue 1. Inter were keen to bring the attacker back to Italy last year and PSG are ready to open talks if the Nerazzurri reignite their interest this summer, although he would have to accept a pay-cut. The future of Brazil international Alex is also in doubt as still no agreement has been reached over a contract renewal. The defender is keen to stay at his current club, but PSG might be tempted to offload the former Chelsea man if a better alternative becomes available for the right price. Another player who could possibly move on ahead of the 2014-15 campaign is Javier Pastore. The Argentine is happy with his current situation at the club, but his status could change if one of Pogba and Pjanic were to arrive. If the latter joins, Pastore could be used in a part-exchange deal as Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is a huge fan having first brought the South American to Palermo from Huracan. AMAZONIAN Edinson Cavani has also been linked with a transfer and a number of Premier League sides are keeping a close eye on his situation. There have been claims that the 26-year-old is unhappy to play second fiddle behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic and would be open to another new adventure. However, a transfer does not seem a realistic option at this point as PSG see the Uruguay international as an integral part of their plans. Italy international Marco Verratti very much finds himself in the same boat as Cavani. The midfielder has been heavily linked with a return to Serie A, especially Juventus, but PSG are unlikely to let go of the playmaker following his outstanding performances since he joined from Pescara. Verratti has a contract with the French champions until June 2018 and an offer well in excess of €30m will be needed to make PSG even blink.

AMAZONIAN According to Tuttosport, the striker has been struggling with a knee problem and will undergo further tests tomorrow. Antonio Conte may well decide not to risk his Serie A top scorer, handing the starting spots to Daniel Osvaldo and Fernando Llorente. Osvaldo arrived in January on loan from Southampton and already scored in the Europa League against Trabzonspor. AMAZONIAN He is a former Fiorentina player, but missed Sunday’s 1-0 win over the Viola in Serie A as he was on paternity leave – even though he sat in the stands to watch. Andrea Pirlo was suspended for that League encounter and returns here, as do Borja Valero and Nenad Tomovic for Fiorentina. Another option for Conte is to partner Osvaldo with Sebastian Giovinco, as the pairing worked well against Trabzonspor in the last round and they have known each other since the Italy Under-21 side.

AMAZONIAN The veteran tactician has had spells on the bench with both clubs, who this week meet in the first leg of their Europa League Last 16 tie. “I cannot say what sort of game to expect, it is difficult to make a prediction,” Trapattoni has considered in La Repubblica on the encounter. “Juve have all the components of a great team, but Fiorentina will be motivated. Nothing can be ruled out, [but] Juve should win.” AMAZONIAN For the 74-year-old, Montella’s work at the Artemio Franchi has in particular caught his eye. “I believe that of Vincenzo and Fiorentina you can only say good things. I like Montella, he seems to me an intelligent guy and Fiorentina play very well. “Even when I hear him speak on television and in interviews, I like him a lot. Mar 11, 2014 If players ever needed additional motivation to play a high profile game at the top level, the Juventus Fiorentina game provided many before it even started. The "rematch" as many were calling it in the media, was supposed to be another cracker of a game between two very motivated teams. The first encounter against the two in October ended with Juventus suffering the first loss of the season after relinquishing a 0-2 lead at halftime in Florence. AMAZONIAN Unfortunately, as it is often the case, the quality of the game did not match the hype it followed. There was only one goal scored (to the previous 6 in October), there were no spectacular stories about players coming back from long knee injuries to carry teams to victories, and there was very little drama in front of either goal over the span of 90 minutes. Fortunately though, and this is by far the most important thing for us Bianconeri, the resulting outcome of the match meant three points, a 14th straight victory at home, to match a now 14-point lead over Roma in the race for the Scudetto. AMAZONIAN MATCH SUMMARY Both teams were playing without their marquee playmakers as Pirlo and Borja Valero were unavailable. This was definitely one of the main reasons the quality of the match was a tad bit lower than expected. Juventus, lining up Marchisio in Pirlo's role and Ogbonna in the center of defense, dominated the first 45 minutes. There weren't a ton of goal-scoring opportunities though, as the only notable one was in fact Asamoah's goal. The Ghanaian had seen plenty of the ball along the left flank in the first half (which was definitely by design with Pirlo not in the team) and after a couple shots on goal finally found his mark. Wiggling through 4 Fiorentina defenders, unusually for him he lined up a beautiful shot with his right foot that took the smallest of deflections and went in off the post. With just a few minutes left in the first half, it was the perfect time to strike and take the lead for Juventus. The second half, while many label it as another meltdown by Juventus, was actually very even up until 10 minutes from time. Juventus weren't sitting deep and inviting Fiorentina on, which I actually thought was pretty encouraging given how some of our other recent second half performances have gone. AMAZONIAN Fiorentina did get its chances to equalize though and it became very dangerous with the introduction of Mati Fernandez and Masto. Diakite had a goal disallowed offside, while Masto hit the crossbar of Buffon's goal with a close-range header. Bullet dodged, and a big one too. At the end of 90 minutes it was another well-fought victory for Juventus, though many will question if this type of play will be sufficient to continue being victorious in the Europa League as well. AMAZONIAN LE PAGELLE Buffon: 7 - Was laser focused throughout the whole match and you can really see him eager to lead our team in games against big teams. Had a couple good saves and was very attentive to rush out and clear a goal-scoring opportunity for Fiorentina in the second half. Barzagli: 6 - Didn't have his usual quality against Milan and the same story repeated against Fiorentina. He's not himself yet and he'll need a couple more games to get back to it. Vargas gave him more trouble than he should've. Ogbonna: 7 - I thought Ogbonna had a great game subbing in for Bonucci in the middle of the pack. Tidied everything up, tracked Gomez when needed, and made some great clearances. Chiellini: 7 - Our team is a different beast with him on the field. Despite Cuadrado's sneakiness and pace, Chiellini coped well and was at the right place at the right time on a few occasions. Lichtsteiner: 6 - Surprisingly, most of our build up play came along the left flank with Pogba and Asamoah in tandem. Lichtsteiner tried to cut in from his right side and he even floated in some crosses in early on, but his delivery was way off. Had a good chance in the first half that he scuffed as well. Vidal: 6 - Rarely do I give Vidal a 6, but he was very ineffective all day long. Got himself booked early and that kinda threw him off a bit. Marchisio: 6.5 - Did his best possible Pirlo impression in the regista role and did it decently well. Had the right ideas - played it simple and down the flanks most of the time with the occasional long ball forward. Pogba: 7 - Out of the three midfielders, he definitely stood out. Worked very hard to be useful in both attack and defense. He can still do much, much better - maybe he'll get his rest this Thursday against La Viola in the EL. ASAMOAH: 8 - By far Juve's best player of the night and the definite difference maker. Scored a lovely goal, but also had a few other shots that were dangerous prior. He welcomed the opportunity to see more of the ball with Pirlo unavailable. Tevez: 7 - He didn't score, but did everything possible to put himself in a position to do so. Worked tirelessly all game and recovered many balls with his pressing. Llorente: 6.5 - Not the best of games for Fernando who will most likely sit the next one out with Osvaldo back in the squad. Had some good touches and fought valiantly in the air, but wasn't able to create much in attack with Tevez. AMAZONIAN Subs: Caceres: sv Padoin: sv - Isla: sv - Coach: Conte: 7 - Prepared well for the absence of Pirlo and strategically focused the play down the flanks. Agnelli backs Scirea’s widow Mar 11, 2014 Andrea Agnelli has backed the widow of Juventus legend Gaetano Scirea for complaints against discriminatory chants, and also urged that focus is correct. AMAZONIAN Mariella Scirea has spoken this week of her desire to see her late husband’s name taken down from the south stand at Juventus Stadium that bears it, if discriminatory chants from the Juve Ultras it is home to do not stop. AMAZONIAN “On Sunday, myself and my colleagues have not heard anything, whilst, even if there is an audio file, I am surprised by the fact that, despite the stadium having advanced technology, we are unable to identify the few people that are responsible. “We must be careful not to emphasise certain situations, otherwise you are likely to give visibility to 20-30 people, who do not deserve it. “It is something else if the chants are clear - I and my colleagues, for example, did not hear it. Chiellini: Italy controversy resolved Mar 11, 2014 Giorgio Chiellini believes that the controversy surrounding his inclusion in last week’s Italy squad has been resolved. AMAZONIAN Antonio Conte was not pleased with the defender being named in the Azzurri squad to face Spain after only just coming back from injury. But the centre-back has insisted that episode has been forgotten about. “These are situations and misunderstandings that can sometimes be created,” he told Sky Sport Italia. Madrid ask Juve for Pogba meeting Mar 10, 2014 Real Madrid have asked Juventus for a meeting to discuss the possibility of signing Paul Pogba, it’s suggested. AMAZONIAN El Confidencial report that Los Blancos have requested to meet with the Bianconeri hierarchy to enquire about the France international. The former Manchester United youngster has been heavily linked with a switch away from Turin this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain, the Spanish giants and his previous employers all supposedly keen. AMAZONIAN The Bianconeri barely reached the heights that they are capable of, but they managed to grind out the points, as they have done for most of the season. Kwadwo Asamoah's outrageous piece of skill and powerful finish broke the deadlock, and Fiorentina never reacted. Here are six things we learned from the first of three matches between the sides inside two weeks. AMAZONIAN Conte Has a Tough Decision on Whether to Buy a Left Midfielder Antonio Conte has accommodated Asamoah on the left side since his move from Udinese. The fact that the Ghanaian was always a better player through the middle for the Zebrette suggested that the Bianconeri were wasting the player by pushing him out wide. But Asamoah has adapted well and is flourishing this season, suggesting that Juve may not need to invest in a left-sided player this summer, as was previously the talk from Juventini. AMAZONIAN Juve Will Be Too Strong for Fiorentina in the Europa League Juve proved on Sunday that they are a superior outfit to Fiorentina and that while the Viola managed to upset them earlier in the season in Florence, over two legs, it will be a very tough ask for Vincenzo Montella's men to even make it a close tie. Juve barely got out of second gear at the Juventus Stadium, and you sensed that with the league wrapped up, they will focus fully on the last 16 Europa League tie, meaning they will be an even tougher opponent for the Viola. There is animosity between the sides and the fans, which should make for a good spectacle, but ultimately, while they will be enjoyable matches, the outcome is unlikely to be a surprise. AMAZONIAN Montella Is Relying on Gomez Finding His Form to Save Their Season Montella must be worried, as the Viola have completely lost their cutting edge up front since Giuseppe Rossi picked up a serious injury. Mario Gomez has also suffered a long-term injury, and the German must return to form quickly in order to rescue Fiorentina's season. Alessandro Matri arrived from Milan in January, but it has not really worked, and without a trusted forward, Fiorentina are a blunt side. AMAZONIAN With their wonderful passing midfielders, sides will allow them to keep the ball in deep areas, knowing that if they mark their strikers tightly, they are unable to be able to score. Montella has toyed with the 4-3-3 and 3-5-2, searching for the best solution to upping their contributors in the goals column. The Coppa Italia final is something to keep in mind, but the league form needs to pick up, starting with Gomez returning to form. AMAZONIAN Fiorentina Need to Be Wary of Disintegrating Fiorentina have been battling a tough schedule in recent weeks, but the squad is thin, and the injuries have finally taken their toll on them. The Viola were always outsiders for third place but seemed to be clinging on to Napoli's coat tails, perhaps more to do with Rafael Benitez's side failing to open up a gap, rather than Montella's men maintaining pressure on their rivals with a great run of form. The Viola are sitting in fourth place, but Inter Milan have suddenly hit some form and are one point behind. AMAZONIAN While Parma are just a further point adrift and have gone 15 matches unbeaten in what will surely put Roberto Donadoni in contention for manager of the year. The Gialloblu actually have a game in hand, meaning that they could usurp both Inter and Fiorentina if they beat Roma when their game is rescheduled. It would be harsh on Fiorentina to slip down as low as sixth and potentially risk losing out on European football, as injuries have evidently played a part in the team fizzling out, but Montella must maintain focus. AMAZONIAN There is a Coppa Italia final to come, but the league form must drastically improve to give themselves the best chance of beating Napoli in May and capping off a great season. Failure to do so could mean huge disappointment and an ultimately poor season, despite the circumstances. AMAZONIAN Conte's Side on the Verge of Greatness Thanks to Their Fortress Juventus' success this season has been predicated on some remarkable home form. The Bianconeri have strung together 14 consecutive wins in the league at home, and that includes every match this season. They can create history by maintaining this devastating form to catch the record-holders Bordeaux, who achieved 18 wins in a row in 1985. AMAZONIAN David Amoyal @DavidAmoyal Juve is now 4 wins behind Bordeaux's 1984/85 team (18) for most home wins in a row in Europe's history That feat seems within in their grasp, with their next home matches in the league against Parma, Livorno, Bologna, Atalanta and Cagliari, who were the last side to take something off the Old Lady at home in the league. Parma will be the toughest hurdle, but the record is certainly achievable and can help legitimize Conte's claims that they are one of the greatest Juve sides of all time. AMAZONIAN Borja Valero Is Sorely Missed Borja Valero's suspension really hurt Fiorentina, and given that it came from a lack of discipline, Montella will be quietly seething. Despite the length of the ban handed out, which appeared to be inconsistent with other cases of a similar nature this season, Montella will know that the Spaniard's ill discipline has cost his side. Valero knits everything together superbly, picking the ball up from the deep-lying playmaker, David Pizarro, before weaving a way through the opposition's crowded midfield. AMAZONIAN Without him, the Viola became rather predictable, knowing that Mati Fernandez was the only midfielder who could move with the ball at feet, so Juve used tight marking in the middle of the mark and often doubled the Chilean to stop him from gaining a step and spinning into the space behind Juve's midfield. Angelo Ogbonna - Played at the heart of the defensive trio and did not put a foot wrong all afternoon as he helped limit the influence of Gomez on the game. Giorgio Chiellini - On his return to the starting line-up he showed his quality with a very physical display that made it close to impossible for the Viola to penetrate his defence. Stephan Lichtsteiner - Added some much-needed width down the right and combined with his team-mates well, but he did not supply enough crosses for the strikers. Paul Pogba - The Frenchman was exceptionally dynamic in midfield, putting in strong challenges and also getting into the box to support Tevez and Llorente. Claudio Marchisio - Attempted to fill the boots of the suspended Pirlo by spraying the raking passes from midfield. His vision was commendable but his execution was not always accurate. Arturo Vidal - Picked up an early booking after a couple of clumsy challenges and it set the tone for his rather cumbersome display. Juan Vargas - Made a couple of bright runs in behind Barzagli early on but was not picked out often enough and therefore was unable to make a real impact on the game.
