ALLEGRI: ‘RIGHT JUVENTUS ATTITUDE, BUT DON’T FORGET THE MISTAKES’

Così è ottimo": Allegri esulta e blocca il mercato bianconero

Max Allegri celebrates the attitude that allowed Juventus to beat Fiorentina in stoppages, but also warns they ‘must not forget’ the points dropped this season to avoid falling back into that trap.

Federico Chiesa smashed a sensational effort off the crossbar, but in stoppages substitute Juan Cuadrado scored from a seemingly impossible angle.

“I am pleased with the performance of the whole team, but especially Rugani, who barely played at all this season. Luca Pellegrini also did well off the bench,” Allegri told DAZN.

“We held out well on a psychological level. We should be angry at the points we dropped along the way this season, which we would’ve taken home with a different mentality and attitude. We must be pleased today, but also still have that anger we dropped those points.”

“I think we had three or four chances in the first half where we chose the wrong final ball. This victory boosts confidence, but absolutely must not lower the level of concentration. If anything, it has to remind us that to win games, we need to fight to the end,” continued Allegri.

“Morata created some good situations, he scored a disallowed goal and only could’ve done better on Danilo’s cross, realising he had to attack the near post rather than the back. He should’ve read that situation better.”

“The foundations to be a team fighting for the top spots are based on sacrifice. This is a team that has quality, but it must be united with the spirit of sacrifice, determination in the tackle and individual duels. We didn’t win a single duel against Sassuolo, whereas today we had more of those.

“This team earned qualification for the Champions League Round of 16 with two games to spare, but we must not forget what we got wrong.”

“At this moment we have four defenders and manage to develop from the back like that. We’ve got three in midfield and then the three upfront who sort themselves out, which gives us a sense of unpredictability.

“People say you have to play well, but ultimately it’s about winning and you have to win. Our issues above all this season were psychological, and today at the most difficult moment of the game, we held out. I am glad about that.”

ALLEGRI: ‘DYBALA AND RAMSEY OUT FOR LAZIO CLASH, SARRI…’

Conferenza stampa Allegri: «Sarri grande allenatore. Ora servono i fatti»

Paulo Dybala returned from international duty with a slight calf injury which could force him out of action against the Biancocelesti tomorrow.

“Dybala will train for the first time in a week today. He wants to be available, but we have to see,” Allegri said at a press conference.

“He has nothing serious, but the calf is tricky.”

The Bianconeri sit eight in the Serie A table, three points off Lazio, who are just one point behind fourth-placed Atalanta.

“Juventus and Lazio are the teams that have won the most trophies over the last few years,” said Allegri.

“We are both close to a Champions League placement, it’s a difficult game, but also a very important one.

“Sarri has given a great organisation to Lazio. He has technical players such as Milinkovic-Savic, Pedro and Luis Alberto. They are organised, so we’ll need to play a good game technically and defend well.

“Sarri is a great coach and that’s proved by the results he has achieved.”

When the Tuscan tactician was sacked by Juventus in 2020, he reportedly told the Bianconeri directors that the team was ‘untrainable’, what does Allegri make of it?

“Sarri said it, so you should ask him,” said Allegri.

“To me, every team is trainable. It’s up to the coach to decide the best approach. I don’t know what to say, I didn’t say that, but the team has changed since two years ago.”

LAZIO 0-2 JUVENTUS: BONUCCI PUTS SARRI ON THE SPOT

Immagine

Lazio saw their 19-match unbeaten home record ended by a pair of Leonardo Bonucci penalties, as Juventus took revenge on Maurizio Sarri at the Stadio Olimpico.

It was a special game for Sarri against the side that sacked him 18 months ago, despite winning the Scudetto, but Ciro Immobile was injured with Adam Marusic testing positive for COVID-19. Juve missed Paulo Dybala, Giorgio Chiellini, Mattia De Sciglio, Aaron Ramsey and Federico Bernardeschi, while Alex Sandro was rested after returning from Brazil, making way for Luca Pellegrini.

Lazio had a very aggressive start and things got worse for Juve when Danilo was stretchered off after a knock to the inside of the thigh from Elseid Hysaj.

That seemed to shake up the game and Juventus received a penalty after the VAR on-field review, as Danilo Cataldi went into a risky sliding tackle and Alvaro Morata just moved the ball a moment earlier. Leonardo Bonucci converted calmly to put the visitors in front.

However, Reina was entirely at fault for the second goal, as he first was way off his line, then brought down Federico Chiesa from behind while desperately trying to make up for the error. It was an inevitable penalty and Bonucci converted again.

Kean nearly added a third on the counter from his own half, denied by a Reina save, but Juventus still catch Lazio in fifth place.

ALLEGRI: ‘FOOTBALL IS ABOUT STRATEGY’Lazio-Juventus 0-2, Allegri: "Il nostro processo di crescita continua" - Sport - Calcio - quotidiano.net

“We had a good game, but we did waste too many scoring opportunities, because this is a team with great potential and the ability to reach the opposition goal, then we are too hasty.”

Allegri was particularly irritated with Dejan Kulusevski for a late opportunity.

“You go to the corner flag with that ball, you don’t try to dribble everyone. These are the things we need to learn, we always try to do too much, go for a back-heel or a solo run, they are unnecessary and wasteful.

“It was Juve against Lazio, not Allegri against Sarri, but football is also strategy. There are moments you need to keep the ball, moments when you have to counter, moments when you must defend.

“I thought Lazio would keep the ball for 70-80 per cent, but we did well to keep 46 per cent, so that was an improvement. As time goes on, we’ll do better. It’s the kind of thing you can only learn with time and a run of victories.”

“Rabiot, Locatelli and McKennie worked really hard in midfield. Rabiot has a great engine, he could’ve played another 90 minutes, and he did really well to limit Milinkovic-Savic,” confirmed Allegri.

“I admired the spirit we showed, the only chances we allowed for Lazio were on the counter because we had so many players going forward trying to score. This is why I say that the chances need to be finished, because otherwise you are open to conceding.

CHELSEA 4-0 JUVENTUS: BIANCONERI GET THE BLUES

Immagine

Juventus were never really in the game at Stamford Bridge and drop to second in their Champions League group, as Jorginho’s Chelsea dominated 4-0.

The Bianconeri were already qualified for the knockouts and needed only a draw to be guaranteed top spot in the group, having beaten the reigning Champions of Europe 1-0 in Turin through a Federico Chiesa strike.

Both sides had numerous injuries to deal with, missing Giorgio Chiellini, Danilo, Mattia De Sciglio, Aaron Ramsey and Federico Bernardeschi, with Paulo Dybala and Dejan Kulusevski not fully fit. The hosts were without Mateo Kovacic, while Timo Werner and ex-Inter striker Romelu Lukaku were only fit for the bench.

The deadlock was broken when a set play was flicked onto the arm of Antonio Rudiger by Adrien Rabiot, falling kindly for Trevor Chalobah to blast into the roof of the net. VAR did not disallow the goal, because the rules have changed this season, so it was considered unintentional handball.

Moments later it was almost 1-1, Alvaro Morata flicking it over the on-rushing Mendy and denied only by a spectacular Thiago Silva goal-line clearance.

Wojciech Szczesny got down to fingertip a James angled drive round the far post and Chelsea lost Kante to injury, but continued to push, Leonardo Bonucci with a key block after Jorginho’s dinked pass had sent Callum Hudson-Odoi clear.

Reece James chested down a deflected Ben Chilwell cross and hit a rocket of an angled drive across Szczesny into the far bottom corner.

Within moments it was 3-0, Juve giving it away cheaply again to spark a quick passing move, Hudson-Odoi firing in from six yards at the back post. It was the first time since a 4-1 defeat to Fulham in March 2010 that Juventus conceded at least three goals against an English team in Europe.

Szczesny kept the scoreline down with a low save on Hakim Ziyech, but could do nothing when McKennie gave it away with a fresh-air clearance, so Ziyech whipped his assist across the face of goal for substitute Timo Werner.

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVENTUS HAVE LIMITATIONS’ AFTER CHELSEA HAMMERING

Chelsea-Juve 4-0, the words of Allegri and Szczesny

Max Allegri insists Juventus did well in the first half of their 4-0 humiliation against Chelsea, so must focus on the positives after reaching the Champions League Round of 16. ‘We have limitations, there’s no denying it.’

The Bianconeri were already qualified for the Round of 16 and this was a head-to-head for first place, but after winning 1-0 in Turin through a Federico Chiesa strike, they were simply torn to shreds at Stamford Bridge.

This was a humiliation for Juventus, who had not lost by four clear goals in all competition since a 4-0 Serie A defeat to Roma in February 2004 and suffered their worst ever Champions League defeat.

“I think the first half was good. After the break, they continued their press, while we were a bit too weak on the second and third goals,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We allowed a few too many corners, where they are strong physically. We had a few situations where we could’ve done better. It’s disappointing to concede four goals, but the objective was achieved and now we must think about Saturday’s game with Atalanta.

“There were moments when we gave the ball away too cheaply by trying to make vertical passes too quickly rather than keeping the ball. We do that often and need to work on that, because you can’t do it against the reigning champions of Europe.

“The team was by no means bad in the first half. After the break, we lost confidence after the errors for the second and third goals.”

“In any case, we have qualified with two games to spare and can now focus on the next match. Today I congratulated the lads on reaching the Champions League Round of 16.

“It’s not as if after beating Lazio we have become the best team in Europe. We have limitations, there’s no denying it, and we will work on them to improve.”

JUVENTUS 0-1 ATALANTA: DUVAN ZAPATA DOOMS THE OLD LADY

Immagine

Duvan Zapata pounced on a defensive error to give Atalanta their first Serie A victory in Turin since 1989, as Paulo Dybala and Juventus were denied by the crossbar in stoppages.

The Bianconeri needed to get back on track after a humiliating 4-0 midweek Champions League defeat at Chelsea. Paulo Dybala was back in the side after injury, but Aaron Ramsey, Mattia De Sciglio and Danilo were out of action, with Giorgio Chiellini and Federico Bernardeschi only fit for the bench. La Dea had Hans Hateboer back in the squad, but Robin Gosens and Matteo Lovato didn’t make the trip.

Atalanta took the lead when Alvaro Morata gave it away in midfield, a Berat Djimsiti slide-rule pass allowed Duvan Zapata to spring the offside trap with Matthijs de Ligt hanging back and he smashed it in off the underside of the crossbar from a tricky angle.

Dybala scuffed wide from the edge of the area, but Chiesa pulled up on the stroke of half-time with an injury, making way for Federico Bernardeschi.

Juve struggled to create chances, Dybala firing over after a Berat Djimsiti risky back-pass to anticipate Weston McKennie.

The American also went off injured, while Adrien Rabiot’s daisy-cutter from the edge of the box was fingertipped inches wide by Juan Musso.

Deep into stoppages, Dybala floated a free kick over the wall and away from Musso, but it bounced off the top of the crossbar.

La Dea kept a rare clean sheet for this even rarer win in Turin.

ALLEGRI: ‘ONCE JUVENTUS ARE REALISTIC, PRESSURE WILL DROP OFF’

Allegri dopo il ko con l'Atalanta: "La Juventus non deve per forza vincere il campionato" - Eurosport

Max Allegri insists Juventus were never Scudetto contenders and are ‘here to challenge for the top four’ after their home defeat to Atalanta. ‘Once we are realistic, we take the pressure off.’

It was another painful defeat for the Bianconeri after the midweek 4-0 humiliation at the hands of Chelsea in the Champions League and leaves them seven points adrift of fourth place.

Duvan Zapata pounced on a defensive error and fired in off the underside of the bar, while Paulo Dybala’s free kick bounced off the top of the same piece of woodwork in stoppages.

“It was a performance similar to the one against Lazio, with Fiorentina and Milan,” Allegri told DAZN.

“We don’t make the most of the chances we create, Atalanta had only one shot on goal from our error, and as I said yesterday, it’s the goal that counts.

“We are here to challenge for the top four. I cannot complain to my lads after this performance, I can only congratulate their efforts, then the rest is down to those of you who talk for a living.”

Allegri’s Juventus are seven points worse off at this stage than Andrea Pirlo was last season, and 15 points worse than under Maurizio Sarri.

“I think we must be realistic. If we are in this position after 14 rounds, it means this is what we are worth right now. There’s a long way to go, but in terms of performance, I only saw us get it really wrong against Verona, Sassuolo and Empoli.

“There’s no point thinking of ifs and buts. We have to start from scratch, put everything behind us and be prepared to fight it out on level terms with Salernitana, then add our quality on top.”

JUVENTUS STROLL PAST SALERNITANA

Immagine

Juventus cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win away to struggling Salernitana in Serie A on Tuesday evening.

Alvaro Morata added Juventus’ second midway through the second half after Paulo Dybala had opened the score with just over 20 minutes played in Salerno.

Enjoying a rare start under Massimiliano Allegri, Dejan Kulusevski liked up well with Dybala in a clever one-two that teed up the Argentine to finish excellently from the edge of the area. Juventus continued to press and Giorgio Chiellini thought he had doubled their lead only for VAR to rule it out.

Federico Bonazzoli did come within inches of levelling after Juan Cuadrado sent a Kulusevski ball over the top. The Salernitana forward smacked an effort off the inside of the post.

Juventus were given a cushion with 70 minutes on the clock. Federico Bernardeschi carved out the chance with some good play on the left before centring for Morata to finish tidily from beyond the front post.

The Bianconeri were awarded a late penalty but Dybala was unable to convert.

ALLEGRI: ‘IT’S TIME WE GIVE BACK TO JUVENTUS’

Allegri: "Vinto con una squadra giovane, ecco in cosa dobbiamo migliorare"

Max Allegri confirms he told Juventus players it was ‘time to give back’ to the club and reiterates there will be ‘ups and downs’ with a relatively young and inexperienced squad. ‘I accepted this challenge knowing it was difficult.’

The Bianconeri got back on track with a 2-0 victory away to Salernitana this evening, after defeats to Chelsea and Atalanta, with Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata on target.

“I think the lads put in a good performance tonight. It wasn’t easy against Salernitana in front of their fans and we ran a few risks in the second half with crosses into the box,” Allegri told DAZN.

Captain Giorgio Chiellini explained that he was very moved by Allegri’s pre-match team talk, which the coach confirmed.

“It hasn’t been an easy time, we lost to Atalanta and could’ve scored more goals this evening. I said Juventus have given us so much and it is time we have a sense of responsibility and give back to this club. We need to focus, because we’ve failed too many times against the smaller clubs this season.

“The best thing at these moments is to simplify. We tried the passing moves in training yesterday and today I focused more on the mentality. The words Chiellini said are what I said to the team. We are the ones who now must give back to Juventus, the players, coach, the fans, everyone.”

“Naturally, we’re going to have ups and downs. I am still getting to know the players, they are getting to know me, and we play every three days. We achieved the first target by progressing in the Champions League, now we should have a little more time to work in training.

“Things change, people come and go, but Juventus remain and will always remain. Life goes in cycles, it has to be accepted as a challenge. I accepted this challenge knowing it was difficult, because it’s impossible to win more than nine years in a row, surely?

“Now we must have the responsibility of being at Juventus and the ambition to aim as high as possible.”

JUVENTUS 2-0 GENOA: CUADRADO AND DYBALA GET IT DONE

Immagine

Juan Cuadrado curled in directly from the corner flag and Genoa goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu performed heroics before Paulo Dybala added a second for Juventus.

The Bianconeri made just one change from the 4-2-3-1 formation that beat Salernitana midweek, Alvaro Morata replacing Moise Kean, as they were still without Federico Chiesa, Weston McKennie, Danilo, Mattia De Sciglio and Aaron Ramsey, also losing Mattia Perin. Genoa had an even longer absentee list, Milan Badelj joining Nicolò Rovella, Stefano Sturaro, Mattia Destro, Felipe Caicedo, Domenico Criscito, Mohamed Fares and Nikola Maksimovic.

Juan Cuadrado opened the scoring in bizarre circumstances, curling in directly from the corner flag into the far top corner, surprising Salvatore Sirigu. It was the second Serie A goal scored from the corner this weekend after Hakan Calhanoglu in Inter’s trip to Roma.

Sirigu continued to perform heroics to keep Genoa in it, with three incredible saves in a minute. He denied Morata at the near post, then the Grifone were caught napping for a counter-attack, but he parried from Dybala and then made another one-handed save on Cuadrado’s acrobatic effort.

The second goal finally arrived when Bernardeschi went down the left, threaded through for Dybala, who took a touch before drilling from a tight angle into the far bottom corner.

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVENTUS HAVE WORST STATISTICS IN SERIE A!’

Serie A 2020-21: Juventus beat Genoa 2-0 amid spat between Allegri and Morata | Football News – India TV

Max Allegri jokes about the number of wasted scoring opportunities for Juventus in the 2-0 win over Genoa and explains the touchline row with Max Allegri. ‘We’re the worst in Serie A, I think!’

This was the Bianconeri’s fourth win in the last five Serie A games and they certainly were not short on scoring opportunities with 12 shots on target, 27 overall, but Salvatore Sirigu performed heroics, along with some poor finishing.

“I think we wanted to reinforce our position when it comes to percentage of scoring opportunities converted into goals! We’re the worst in Serie A, I think, so wanted to consolidate those statistics!” the coach told DAZN.

“I enjoyed watching the team play this evening, as I have done in other games, even when we lost. We can only improve our effectiveness in front of goal, that’s for sure.”

There was an ugly touchline row with Morata, who was substituted after a yellow card for dissent, then continued to argue with his coach.

“He was booked, he was continuing to argue and so I preferred to take him off. It’s disappointing, as Alvaro had played well and so did the whole team,” explained Allegri.

Juventus are still seven points off the top four, with Atalanta, Napoli, Inter and Milan out in front.

“At this moment, we are fifth along with Fiorentina. It was important to win today, the top four are doing very well and currently deserve their positions. I don’t know what will happen at the end of the season, if things will change.

JUVENTUS 1-0 MALMÖ: KEAN AND ZENIT GIVE JUVE GROUP

Juventus - Malmo 1-0 Goals UEFA Champions League Highlights 21-22 - YouTube

Moise Kean’s header on a sensational Federico Bernardeschi ‘trivela’ assist proved enough to beat Malmo, as Juventus top their Champions League group thanks to Zenit’s thriller with Chelsea.

The Bianconeri had already qualified for the Round of 16, but could still take top spot if they won and Chelsea failed to pick up all three points away to Zenit. Federico Chiesa, Dejan Kulusevski, Danilo, Weston McKennie and Aaron Ramsey were injured, with 19-year-old Koni De Winter getting his first start.

Moise Kean skimmed the base of the near post from a Paulo Dybala through ball, but he got the goal eventually when leaping between centre-backs to nod in the excellent Federico Bernardeschi cross from the right with the outside of the left boot. It was his fourth Champions League goal, but the first in a Juve jersey.

Mattia Perin was making his European club football debut and rushed off his line to smother at the feet of Jo Inge Berget after a smart Anders Christiansen flick.

News filtered through from St Petersburg that Zenit had gone from a goal down to leading Chelsea 2-1.

Kean hesitated when sent clear by Alvaro Morata and was denied by a save at the near bottom corner, while Ismael Diawara also got down for a tricky one-handed save on Bernardeschi’s strike from distance, Kean only finding the side-netting on the rebound.

Diawara spilled a Rabiot effort, but made up for it with an astonishing reaction save on Kean’s follow-up from point-blank range.

Meanwhile, Chelsea had turned it around again and were leading 3-2 at Zenit in the final minutes, until deep into stoppages when Magomed Ozdoev hit a sensational strike into the roof of the net for 3-3!

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVENTUS CAN’T KEEP WASTING CHANCES’

Allegri: 'Juventus can't keep wasting chances' - Football Italia

Max Allegri was not entirely happy with Juventus, despite beating Malmo 1-0 and winning their Champions League group. ‘We can’t keep wasting all these scoring opportunities.’

The Bianconeri did the bare minimum to squeeze past Malmo 1-0 thanks to a Moise Kean header on the Federico Bernardeschi ‘trivela’ assist off the outside of the left boot.

However, they were only able to top the group thanks to a last-gasp Zenit equaliser to hold Chelsea 3-3.

“It was a great evening for the result, but we wasted too many scoring opportunities. We cannot think we’ll get far if we continue to waste all these chances,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a difficult match and we were able to break the deadlock early, but then failed to kill off the game with 2-0 so many times. We have to improve this, because we cannot keep games in the balance like this.

“I told the lads that a much more difficult match awaits us this weekend against Venezia, because none of them have faced Venezia before. I’ve been there, it’s a beautiful city, but also a very difficult stadium to play in and we need a completely different performance to what we saw today.

Juventus lose momentum and two points in disappointing Venezia draw

Immagine

On Saturday, Venezia hosted Juventus at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium for the 17th matchday of the Serie A season.

All seemed well for the Bianconeri who took a deserved first half lead, but it was a story of two halves, as the hosts bounced back with a back second period performance and came out with a 1-1 draw.

Max Allegri maintained his 4-2-3-1 lineup. Alvaro Morata led the charge supported by Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado and Federico Bernardeschi, while Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot operated in the double pivot.

Wojiech Szczesny returned to goal, while the back four was made up of Mattia De Sciglio, Leonardo Bonucci, Matthijs de Ligt and Luca Pellegrini.

The Bianconeri dominated possession from the get-go, but without creating too many chances.

Unfortunately for Juve, Dybala had to leave the pitch as early as the 12 minute after sustaining yet another injury, leaving his place for Kaio Jorge. We can only hope that it won’t result in a long layoff.

The Old Lady’s tempo slew down a bit following the Argentine’s exit, but Pellegrini’s runs from the left became the main source of danger for the visitors.

After being denied by Sergio Romero on the first occasion, Morata broke the deadlock after flicking a cross from Pellegrini towards goal. VAR had a look at a possible handball on Bernardeschi prior to the goal, but it eventually stood.

Before the end of the first half, Locatelli stole the ball in the middle of the park and launched a counter attack, but Cuadrado’s shot whistled past the far post, as the Bianconeri headed towards the locker rooms with a slight 1-0 lead.

It all changed after the break, with the home side pressing for an equalizer, and eventually getting their wish thanks to a well-taken shot from Mattia Aramu at the 55 minute.

At the end of the day, Allegri’s uninspiring men got can have no complaints, as they head back to Turin with only point point in the bag and many regrets.

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVENTUS DON’T KNOW WHEN TO PLAY UGLY’

Allegri: 'Juventus don't know when to play ugly' - Football Italia

Max Allegri feels Juventus ‘threw away two points’ against Venezia, explains Paulo Dybala’s injury and sees a recurring theme. ‘We don’t realise when to play ugly and grit our teeth.’

The Bianconeri were again toothless upfront in a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Penzo, as Alvaro Morata had met the Luca Pellegrini cross at the near post, but the Old Lady seemed to go to sleep after the break, allowing Mattia Aramu to equalise.

“We ran a risk and it went badly. Dybala went off on Wednesday with a muscular issue, we hoped he was better now, but that was not the case,” explained Allegri on DAZN.

“It was a good first half, we created chances, but then had this 10-15-minute blackout before the Venezia goal. The same thing happened in Salerno, we were lucky then not to concede as they hit the post, so it’s something we clearly need to work on.

“We had to attack the space, force them into fouls and more yellow cards, but we threw away two points against a good Venezia.

“We have players without a great deal of experience, as it was practically Kaio Jorge’s first ‘start’ and others too. The whole team was a bit sluggish after the restart.

“We can’t seem to realise when it’s the time to play pretty and those 10-15 minutes we ought to play ugly, grit our teeth and push through.”

Allegri was asked if it becomes truly difficult now for Juventus to target a top four finish.

“We mustn’t think about that. We threw away two points today, two points we should’ve brought home.”

BOLOGNA 0-2 JUVENTUS: MORATA AND CUADRADO CLINICAL

Immagine

Juventus were clinical on the counter-attack with goals from Alvaro Morata and Juan Cuadrado, for the rest of the game holding out under a Bologna siege.

The Bianconeri were missing Paulo Dybala, Federico Chiesa, Danilo, Aaron Ramsey and Giorgio Chiellini, so Moise Kean got a rare start. Jerdy Schouten was injured for the hosts, who had Marko Arnautovic back.

It was very foggy at the Stadio Dall’Ara, but not enough to prompt a postponement.

Juventus broke the deadlock early, as Alvaro Morata exchanged passes with Federico Bernardeschi, including an Arthur Theate nutmeg, for the Spaniard to fire in at the near post....

However, after 25 minutes of being pinned back into their own half and often their own final third, Juventus doubled their lead entirely against the run of play. Cuadrado unleashed a ferocious strike from just inside the area, it took a decisive deflection off Aaron Hickey to fly into the far top corner.

Juve went on the counter again, Bernardeschi’s angled drive fingertipped round the post, as Bologna realised they’d failed to make anything of their territorial dominance. In fact, Cuadrado could’ve had another on the Kaio Jorge assist in the final minute, scuffing his finish, and Skorupski denied Dejan Kulusevski.

ALLEGRI: ‘JUVENTUS SQUAD WILL STAY LIKE THIS’

Max-Allegri-Sinisa-Mihajlovic.jpg

“Everyone collaborated when defending, which is how it ought to be. Compared to Venezia, we had a better attitude from the start, but need to do more going forward,” Allegri told DAZN.

Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene warned before kick-off that the increase in Capital does not mean they will be particularly active on the January transfer market and this is something Allegri can get behind.

“The Juventus squad is excellent and we’ll continue with them until the end of the season. These players can certainly improve in their confidence, form and desire to achieve objectives. We can improve tactically, technically and in terms of results,” continued the coach.

“It is a good result that keeps us in the running for fourth place, but we mustn’t lower our guard now. It’s a long journey, with many young and inexperienced players. We knew from the start it would not be easy to finish in the top four or challenge for the Scudetto.

“We’ve got one game left in 2021, then we look forward to these exciting clashes in January.”

JUVENTUS 2-0 CAGLIARI: KEAN AND BERNARDESCHI BREAKTHROUGH

Immagine

Moise Kean’s header and the first Federico Bernardeschi goal in Serie A since July 2020 allowed Juventus to beat Cagliari 2-0, but there were a couple of scares too.

The Bianconeri missed Paulo Dybala, Federico Chiesa, Aaron Ramsey, Danilo and Giorgio Chiellini, but Arthur was confirmed with Moise Kean and Alvaro Morata upfront. The Sardinians were in deep crisis after back-to-back 4-0 defeats and one win all season in Serie A.

Nahitan Nandez, Marko Rog, Kevin Strootman and Sebastian Walukiewicz were injured, with Razvan Marin suspended. Diego Godin and Martin Caceres were frozen out.

Kean thought he’d scored in the opening 12 minutes, but his header on a Juan Cuadrado cross thumped the far post.

The only times Cagliari created any kind of danger was from Juve errors, such as a Leonardo Bonucci back-pass.

The breakthrough finally came when Federico Bernardeschi went on a smart run towards the right, cut back inside and crossed with his left foot for the head of Kean.

Alex Sandro nodded a corner wide of the near post, but Cagliari should’ve equalised when Raoul Bellanova flashed a ball across the six-yard box and Dalbert couldn’t steer it on target, only making slight contact.

They threatened again, Wojciech Szczesny needing a fantastic fingertip save to push Joao Pedro’s header over the bar.

Juve finally secured the points with a very rare goal from Bernardeschi. He was sent on the counter by Dejan Kulusevski and smashed the angled drive across Cragno into the far bottom corner with his left foot. It ended a 43-game Serie A goal drought, his first since facing Sampdoria in July 2020 and he received a standing ovation from the crowd in Turin.
