Juventus Player Ratings vs Wydad: Yildiz Show in Philadelphia

165921752-37a9cb64-899a-4075-8db6-4659dd768d56.jpg

Kenan Yildiz threw a spectacle at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, inspiring Juventus to a 4-1 win over Wydad. Igor Tudor’s charges took a giant step toward reaching the quarter-finals in their maiden FIFA Club World Cup appearance.

Juventus had a dream start as Abdelmounaim Boutouil scored an own goal in the 6th minute to break the deadlock. Only ten minutes later, Kenan Yildiz doubled Bianconeri’s lead with a stunning long-range strike after receiving a pass from Andrea Cambiaso.

However, Wydad pulled one back midway through the first half. Nordin Amrabat teed up Thembinkosi Lorch with an excellent through ball after a lethal counter-attack. The South African forward calmly slotted the ball past the helpless Michele Di Gregorio to restore drama. ............

Though the possession scales balanced after the break, there was still a feeling that Juventus were in complete control. Yet, chances were at a premium for the Turin giants before Yildiz notched up a brace on the stroke of the 70-minute mark.

Second-half substitute Dusan Vlahovic put the cherry on top deep inside stoppage time to seal another dominant victory for the Serie A powerhouse. With six points from the first two Group G rounds, Tudor’s men have all but secured knockout qualification with a game to spare. ............

Juventus (3-4-3)

Michele Di Gregorio – 8/10

Called into action more often than expected, the ex-Monza goalkeeper stood tall under pressure, making several key stops while showcasing sharp reflexes and solid positioning.

Lloyd Kelly – 5/10

Arguably Juve’s poorest-performing defender! He was nowhere near Lorch for the goal. ............

Nicolo Savona – 8/10

Deployed more central this time, the Italian youngster held his ground against Samuel Obeng, making Wydad’s center-forward largely ineffective.

Pierre Kalulu – 6/10

 ............

Andrea Cambiaso – 7/10

 ............

Khephren Thuram – 7/10

The Frenchman was the beating heart of Tudor’s midfield, pulling all the strings with composure, vision, and physical dominance. His athleticism and technical quality stood out this afternoon.

Weston McKennie – 4/10

Juventus’ utility man didn’t have a game to remember. On the contrary, he was among the weakest on the field. ............

Alberto Costa – 3/10

The most threat Wydad had managed in the first half came down his flank as the young Portuguese couldn’t cope with Lorch’s pace. On top of that, he was far from convincing in attack.

Kenan Yildiz – 10/10

Whenever Juventus needed someone to thread the needle against Wydad’s low block, they could count on the Turkish starlet. In addition to an outrageous strike, he must feel bitterness for seeing his 6th-minute strike classified as an own goal. However, he added another one in the second half to put the final nail in Wydad’s coffin.

Francisco Conceicao – 6/10

 ............

Randal Kolo Muani – 7/10

Despite failing to get on the board, the Paris Saint-Germain loanee was omnipresent in the build-up, often dropping deep to take part in link-up play. He registered a second-half assist for his trouble.

Substitutes

Teun Koopmeiners – 6/10

Nicolas Gonzalez – 5/10

Manuel Locatelli – 6/10

Dusan Vlahovic – 7/10

Federico Gatti – N/A

Juventus player ratings v Wydad – One player stands out

165924007-6868b166-3cc0-483f-8414-1c5aa60a1b3e.jpg

Michele di Gregorio – 7.0

He could do nothing about Wydad’s goal, but when called upon, he did well.

Pierre Kalulu – 7.0

This was another mature and commanding performance from Kalulu, who made it difficult for Wydad to find the strikers.

Nicolo Savona – 7.0

He is gradually becoming a key player for the club, and with performances like this, it is not difficult to see why.

Lloyd Kelly – 7.5

This was another good performance from Kelly, who was smart on and off the ball as Juve dominated possession.

Alberto Costa – 6.5

 ............

Weston McKennie – 7.0

 ............

Khephren Thuram – 7.5

He was Juventus’ best midfielder in the game. He picked the right passes and drove forward at the right time.

Andrea Cambiaso – 7.0

Cambiaso had a good day at the office, even though he was not spectacular.

Kenan Yildiz – 9.0

What a player he is. He scored twice and was the outstanding player on the pitch. He is growing in confidence and could well be among the players of the tournament.

Randal Kolo Muani – 7.0

Although he did not score, it is easy to see why he starts matches instead of Vlahovic.

Francisco Conceicao – 6.5

 ............

Substitutes

Teun Koopmeiners – 6.5

 ............

Nicolas Gonzalez – 5.5

 ............

Manuel Locatelli – 6.5

He came on and stabilised the midfield when some legs began to tire.

Dusan Vlahovic – 7.0

He scored in the few minutes he played, albeit a penalty.

Federico Gatti – N/A

Juventus 4 - Wydad Casablanca 1: Initial reaction and random observations

Juventus FC v Wydad AC: Group G - FIFA Club World Cup 2025

Juventus’ Club World Cup-opening victory over Al Ain this past Wednesday night was very much about the collective of the attacking trio sharing the goal scoring load. Four days later, it was not three players combining to score five goals and leading Juventus to victory.

Instead, it was Juventus’ No. 10 playing the leading role at the home of the reigning Super Bowl champions.

On a day when Kenan Yildiz scored a hat trick but only got credit for two of those goals, Juve’s young rising star from Turkiye was the go-to man time and time again. The two goals that he got credit for were two of the best goals we’ve seen a Juventus player score over the past 12 months, with his brace (and shoulda-been hat trick) leading the Bianconeri to a 4-1 win over Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca on a steamy Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia. It was Juventus’ second win by three or more goals in as many games to begin the Club World Cup, giving them a nice potential advantage of goal differential heading into next week’s group stage finale in Orlando assuming Manchester City doesn’t absolutely steamroll Al Ain even more than Juve did in their tournament opener. ............

It’s always going to be Yildiz. With so much else uncertain at the club, there is a 20-year-old star in the making who has become the biggest reason for hope ever since he made his senior team debut a year and a half ago. So much so you’ve already got memes popping up on the internet about how important he is to this team in this current moment — which, on top of being handed the No. 10 jersey while he was still 19 years old, probably isn’t too far form the truth.

The thing is, Yildiz has shown he’s more than willing to deliver.

He scored in his first-ever Club World Cup appearance. That is added to the list of scoring in his first Serie A start, in his first Champions League start, in his first Coppa Italia start and his first Supercoppa start. ............

His first goal, although still technically an own goal, was a nifty little finish, even if it did take a rather large deflection. His second goal was an banger if there ever was one, and the sole reason why I got a text from Sam a few weeks ago saying he was going to wait on his Best Goals of the Season list just in case we got something good from the Club World Cup. His third goal, although technically his second, was just so good because he see him pull the brakes on the man marking him, watches him go by, take another little touch to compose himself and then finish it easy.

That’s just the growing repertoire of Yildiz on full display — and he’s showing that he can hurt you in so many different ways as a goal scorer.

There of course will be those who said “Well, it’s just Wydad” just as they said “Well, it’s just Al Ain” a few days ago. That’s fine. But let’s not diminish what Yildiz has done to open this tournament no matter who Juventus’ first two opponents have been. It’s not like this Club World Cup group stage was ever going to see Juve play a big-name club every time they stepped onto the field, and facing Al Ain and Wydad in the first two fixtures allowed Yildiz and the entire team to try and get some serious momentum going heading into their meeting with Manchester City to close out the group stage.

So here we are, through the first two group stage fixtures, and Juve’s got nine goals to their name and have a very good chance of finishing atop Group G with a positive result against City next week. ............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Seriously, though ... FIFA, just give Yildiz the hat trick! He celebrated like he thought he had it after what was technically his second goal. It should be his third. Let him enjoy it! ............
  • How hot was it in Philadelphia during Sunday’s game? Well, it took Yildiz less than a half to completely sweat through his jersey, with it almost looking see-through at the first-half cooling break.
  • Also notable that Igor Tudor didn’t go with a suit for the second straight game in which very warm weather was present. Tudor instead went with his training kit fit — which, based on early returns, is a very nice look compared to some previous editions adidas has rolled out. ............
  • Juventus were also outshot by Wydad (15-9) and needed a couple of big Michele Di Gregorio saves to ensure that this wasn’t a 3-2 scoreline heading into the stretch run.
  • This game also feature a combined 32 fouls. Not exactly one that had a good flow to it. ............
  • I think I feel safe in saying that Wydad are a better team than Al Ain, and not just because they actually scored a nice goal against Juventus. But it was definitely noticeable that the likes of Francisco Conceição, Alberto Costa and a few others weren’t as lively as they were a few days earlier.
  • That being said, Khephren Thuram continues to be awesome and it sure is going to be fun watching him develop at Juventus. He just does so many things well and looks to be taking quite a liking to how Tudor wants him to play.
  • The unfortunate thing about Yildiz’s first goal being called an own goal and that he doesn’t get to claim a hat trick is that we can’t say “Khephren Thuram, assist leader at the Club World Cup.” He’s now just one of a handful of players tied on two assists. ............
  • So now we get to see what Juventus can do against Man City with the top spot in Group G on the line on Thursday. That should be a pretty good measuring stick to see where both clubs are at right now. Hopefully it goes a little bit like the last time they played. I would totally be OK with something like that.

Tudor hails Juventus star with ‘rare’ qualities, praises Locatelli’s gesture: “True leader”

Tudor si gode la classe di Yildiz: "Dove può arrivare lo decide lui" | Goal.com Italia

Two Juventus stars were on the receiving end of some empathic praise from their manager, Igor Tudor.

The Bianconeri marched toward the Round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup after winning their second contest at the expense of Wydad CA. ............

Nevertheless, Tudor reveals that the heat was an impeding factor for his players, especially due to the early kickoff. Still, he lauded his men for maintaining their composure even when they had a healthy lead.

“It was a slightly different match, also because of the time of day which lowered the pace of the game,” said the 46-year-old in his post-match interview.

“The opponents had prepared well, but starting with an early goal helped us. In football, however, nothing is taken for granted, and I stay alert even with a two- or three-goal lead. The boys did well, two good wins in a row.

“Tonight they will enjoy a free dinner, they have earned it. Now, attention turns to Manchester City, a great test awaits us.” ............

“Kenan has huge potential, he has rare qualities: he can make the difference up front with the dynamism of a midfielder. He’s a special talent, but it’s his mentality that will take him far.

“Vlahovic approached today with the right attitude, and he played for the group. And Locatelli’s gesture of letting him take the penalty was a true leader’s gesture.” ............

Yildiz insists he scored a hat-trick against Wydad and not a brace

Yildiz v Wydad

Kenan Yildiz remains firm in his belief that he scored Juventus’ first goal against Wydad, although the goal was officially recorded as an own goal during the match. The young attacker’s close-range shot took a deflection on its way into the net, but it is widely believed that the ball would have gone in regardless of the deflection.

At present, it is still unclear whether Yildiz will be officially credited with the goal. Should that happen, it would mark a remarkable milestone, as he would have scored his first hat-trick in a Juventus shirt. ............

Following the game, Yildiz spoke openly about his performance and the goal in question. Insisting that he scored three goals, not two, he said: “They say double, but I think it’s a hat-trick. I kicked the first goal, so I think the first one is mine too.” This statement reflects his strong conviction and personal assessment of the match.

When asked if he expects to score a hat-trick officially in the near future, Yildiz responded optimistically, saying, “Yes, let’s hope so.” His positive attitude demonstrates his hunger for goals and confidence in his own ability to continue improving and delivering strong performances for Juventus.

Yildiz celebrating v Wydad

Regardless of the official goal tally, this match was yet another excellent display from Yildiz. His energy, movement, and goal-scoring instincts have been impressive, and he is quickly establishing himself as a key player for Juventus. The exact number of goals he is credited with is secondary to his overall impact on the team’s success. ............

“We played a serious match” Thuram reacts to Juventus win against Wydad

Khephren Thuram and Kenan Yildiz celebrating v Wydad

Juventus secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Wydad this evening, continuing their impressive run in the Club World Cup with back-to-back wins. Following a 5-0 thrashing of Al Ain, the Bianconeri once again demonstrated their strength, proving their earlier result was no fluke.

The team is using this tournament to regroup and refine their form after a challenging end to their domestic season. Under Igor Tudor’s guidance, the players are gradually adapting to his tactical demands. ............

Khephren Thuram emphasised the focus within the squad and their respect for their opponents, stating: “I saw Juve well, we played a serious match. We worked well as a team. Good that we won today.” ............

He added, “It was not easy, because Wydad is a serious team that plays well on the counterattack, they have very fast players. And also the defenders and midfielders were very serious in making preventive balls.”

This approach reflects Juventus’ broader attitude to the competition. Although it forms part of their pre-season preparations, the players are treating it with a high level of commitment. ............

Di Gregorio insists Juventus are thinking about winning the Club World Cup

@DAZN_IT's video Tweet

Michele Di Gregorio has quickly become one of the most important players in the Juventus squad and is expected to play a pivotal role in any success they achieve at the Club World Cup. The Italian goalkeeper has been a reliable presence between the posts and has helped the Bianconeri qualify for the next round of the competition. ............

As the tournament progresses, Di Gregorio has underlined the club’s ambition and commitment to winning every competition they enter. His mentality reflects the standards expected at a club like Juventus, where there is never any room for complacency or mediocrity. The goalkeeper said:

“When you’re at Juventus, your only thought is always to win. After two wins in the first two games of the group, I think it’s even more right to believe in it. We’re here to honour the event in the best possible way and, since we are Juventus, also to win it.” ............

Juventus have shown intensity and quality throughout the tournament, and Di Gregorio’s leadership at the back has played a crucial part in that. His mindset, rooted in a commitment to excellence, mirrors what the club has always stood for, and it is a vital ingredient if Juve is to lift the trophy. ............

Barzagli identifies what he thinks helped Juventus prepare for Club World Cup

Juventus team before Wydad game

Andrea Barzagli thinks Juventus’ initial training camp in West Virginia was good for them and helped them to prepare well for the Club World Cup. ............

The game against Manchester City would be an important one for them, and they would want to keep their winning streak while topping the group. Juventus has shown promising signs of being one of the standout teams in the tournament, and their pre-competition work has played a major role in that.

Barzagli has been impressed with their performance and highlighted the value of the West Virginia training camp. The former defender said:

“I think that the first part of the American retreat, the one in West Virginia, may not have driven the players crazy in terms of location, but it certainly allowed Tudor to work hard and in a good atmosphere. It is no coincidence that Juventus gives the feeling of being fresher and brighter than at the end of the championship. The club’s decision to renew Tudor also had an impact. The players seem happy with his confirmation and now they want to show him that they deserve his place”.

This sentiment reflects the improved energy within the squad and suggests that the club’s atmosphere is currently one of focus, trust and hard work. ............

Juventus cannot afford to slow down or relax now. Stronger opposition will test the team’s resolve, and the cohesion and sharpness developed in West Virginia must continue to reflect in their upcoming performances.

Preview: Juventus vs Manchester City - prediction, team news, lineups

Juventus vs. Man City | DAZN US

Juventus and Manchester City battle it out in their final Group G fixture at the FIFA Club World Cup at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Thursday.

Both European giants have already qualified for the last 16 and are now seeking to finish top of the group, with Juve currently boasting a slight advantage courtesy of goals scored.

Match preview

After kick-starting their debut Club World Cup campaign with a five-star showing against Al-Ain, Juventus punched their ticket to the knockout rounds with a 4-1 victory over Wydad AC on matchday two in Philadelphia.

Kenan Yildiz ha arguably been Juve’s standout performer in the United States and followed up a strike on matchday one with a superb brace against Wydad - the Turkish star was unfortunate not to claim a hat-trick as Abdelmounaim Boutouil was credited with an early own goal.

Juve endured a challenging 2024-25 campaign on the domestic front as they struggled to convert draws into wins in Serie A - drawing a league-high 16 games en route to sneaking into the top four - but head coach Igor Tudor could hardly have asked for a better start to life at the newly-expanded Club World Cup.

After scoring nine goals to Man City’s eight across the opening two group games, Juventus sit top of Group G by the finest of margins and Tudor’s men can afford to draw Thursday’s “great test” against the Citizens to secure first position.

Juventus will fancy their chances of success on matchday three, as they boast a seven-game unbeaten run across all competitions (W5 D2), while they have won each of their last three meetings with Man City, including a 2-0 Champions League triumph in December 2024. ............

Team News

Juventus quartet Mattia Perin (hand), Juan CabalBremer (both knee) and Arkadiusz Milik (muscle) are all unavailable for selection at the Club World Cup as they continue to recover from injury.

Captain Manuel Locatelli recovered from an ankle problem to feature as a second-half substitute in the win over over Wydad and he is now in contention to return to the first XI, although Tudor may decide to stick with Weston McKennie and Khephren Thuram in midfield.

Tudor may in fact name the same starting lineup for the third consecutive match, with former Man City transfer target Andrea Cambiaso and Alberto Costa providing width as wing-back, as in-form Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao link up with Randal Kolo Muani in attack. ............

Juventus possible starting lineup:

Di Gregorio; Savona, Kelly, Kalulu; Costa, Thuram, McKennie, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; Kolo Muani

Manchester City possible starting lineup:

Ederson; Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, Ait-Nouri; Rodri, Reijnders; Savinho, Foden, Marmoush; Haaland

We say: Juventus 2-3 Manchester City

A tactical tussle between Tudor and Guardiola is in store on Thursday and both Juventus and Man City will back themselves to come away with maximum points.

The Citizens are in need of the victory to finish top of Group G and we are backing the Premier League side to edge past their Serie A counterparts in an entertaining, end-to-end contest.

Club World Cup Preview: Juventus vs Man City – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction

Juventus_Man_City_WC_Preview.jpg

Juventus have enjoyed a flawless Club World Cup debut so far. After a thumping 5-0 win over UAE outfit Al-Ain on the opening day, they thrashed Wydad AC 4-1 to secure a knockout berth with a game to spare. Locking down a top spot is the next assignment.

However, the task ahead is nothing short of Herculean. Like Juventus, Manchester City have been ruthless in the United States. Pep Guardiola’s charges started the tournament with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Wydad before humbling Al-Ain 6-0 in round two.

An inferior goal difference to Juventus means a draw would send the Citizens through as group runners-up. ............

Match Preview

Juventus

It’s been a superb maiden Club World Cup appearance for Juventus thus far. However, this is their sternest test yet. A seven-match unbeaten run in all competitions (W5, D2) bodes well, as the Turin heavyweights need to avoid defeat to progress as Group G winners.

Tudor’s men have rediscovered their scoring instincts in the States. Furthermore, they’ve netted 14 goals across their last four outings, as many as they had in their previous 14 combined. Still, replicating the dominance shown in their first two victories could prove far more challenging this time.

Delivering action from the get-go, Juventus’ last three matches have produced the opening goal within 15 minutes. Another fast start would likely go a long way toward settling their nerves and putting pressure on Man City. Given the stakes, seizing the initiative could make all the difference.

Kenan Yildiz could be the difference-maker after a stellar performance against Wydad. Indeed, the Turkish teenager netted on either side of halftime and played a major role in the opening goal.

Manchester City

 ............

Team News

Juventus will be without long-term absentees Gleison Bremer, Arkadiusz Milik, Mattia Perin, and Juan Cabal. On the bright side, Manuel Locatelli has recovered from an ankle problem and will likely take his place at the heart of Tudor’s midfield, perhaps at the expense of Weston McKennie.

As for Man City, Mateo Kovacic is out with an Achilles tendon injury. Rico Lewis picked up a red card on matchday one and remains out of the squad. Yet, star midfielder Rodri is back after spending the best part of the 2024/25 season on the sidelines.

Juventus vs Manchester City Potential Starting Line-ups

Juventus (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Savona, Kelly, Kalulu; Costa, Thuram, McKennie, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; Kolo Muani.

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, Ait-Nouri; Rodri, Reijnders; Savinho, Foden, Marmoush; Haaland.

Juventus vs Manchester City Prediction

Even with top spot on the line, Juventus and Man City could throw a spectacle in Florida. Both teams have been in scintillating scoring form, making for good reading if you’re neutral. Both sides will probably get on the scoresheet in a match that may end level.

Prediction: Draw

Juventus are now likely to face Real Madrid in the Club World Cup Round of 16 after a thumping 5-2 defeat to Manchester City saw them finish runners-up in Group G.

Both teams had already qualified for the knockouts after winning their opening two games against Wydad and Al-Ain, so it was a head-to-head for top spot. The Bianconeri could afford a draw, having scored one more goal, and made six changes including Dusan Vlahovic and the first Filip Kostic appearance over a year since his loan to Fenerbahce. ............

Moments later, Ait-Nouri caught Alberto Costa napping for a through ball down the left, as Jeremy Doku cut back inside Pierre Kalulu to sweep into the far bottom corner. ............

Less than a minute after that Ederson got it all wrong playing out from the back, so Teun Koopmeiners intercepted to score from a tight angle.

The errors continued, as Kalulu was practically undisturbed when Matheus Nunes pulled back from the by-line, but still somehow side-footed it into his own net from eight yards. ............

Kenan Yildiz came off the bench and drilled just wide, then Juventus lost Nicolò Savona to a badly sprained ankle and Dusan Vlahovic failed to beat Ederson one-on-one with a dinked finish.

Instead, Haaland’s first touch controlled a long Ederson clearance and his lay-off was meant to be for Phil Foden, eventually leading to the tap-in with help from Savinho.

Di Gregorio used his foot to deny Haaland, but it came to the edge of the area to Savinho for an unexpected scorcher off the underside of the bar with his weaker right foot.

Juventus made the scoreline slightly less humiliating when Kenan Yildiz sent Vlahovic running with a smart through ball. ............

A much-changed Juventus side well beaten by Manchester City

193608620-16e5c813-59e6-45a5-9e6f-1ba4f4cf4159.jpg

Manchester City secured a dominant 5-2 victory over Juventus in their final Club World Cup Group G fixture this evening, confirming their place at the top of the group. ............

Juventus manager Igor Tudor made several changes to his starting line-up, a surprising decision given the calibre of the opposition. In contrast, Manchester City fielded a stronger XI and took the lead after just nine minutes through Jeremy Doku.

Juve responded swiftly, with Teun Koopmeiners equalising almost immediately, signalling their intention to compete. However, the reshuffled side lacked the cohesion seen in their recent wins, and this disjointed performance contributed to Manchester City regaining the lead via a Pierre Kalulu own goal. ............

The second half began with a substitution for City, as Erling Haaland entered the game and promptly extended their lead. In response, Tudor introduced Kenan Yildiz, Andrea Cambiaso and Khephren Thuram in an effort to shift the momentum.

However, Manchester City increased their advantage to 4-1 through Phil Foden and continued their dominance by adding a fifth goal not long after.

In the final minutes, Yildiz assisted Dusan Vlahovic for a consolation goal, continuing the striker’s fine run of form, but it proved too little too late. ............

Juventus Player Ratings vs Man City: Terrible Bianconeri Swept Aside

194506304-0391ab1d-521e-4249-8cbc-9de7acf70cba.jpg

Juventus (3-4-3)

Michele Di Gregorio – 7/10

Juventus would’ve probably conceded more had it not been for the former Monza goalkeeper. Made several notable saves, but it was insufficient to avoid a catastrophe.

Lloyd Kelly – 5/10

 ............

Nicolo Savona – 6/10

His defensive colleagues often let him down, leaving the youngster exposed far too frequently. Despite the chaos around him, Savona held his ground against Haaland.

Pierre Kalulu – 2/10

You won’t see a funnier own goal at the tournament than this. A complete absence of concentration saw the Frenchman turn home what should’ve been a routine clearance. Failed to recover afterward.

Filip Kostic – 4/10

 ............

Weston McKennie – 3/10

 ............

Manuel Locatelli – 5/10

Seems like a short spell on the sidelines left its mark as the Juventus captain looked rusty and slow at times, especially when called to help out in defense.

Alberto Costa – 3/10

After an underwhelming performance against Wydad, the Portuguese youngster had another forgettable night against Doku. It was a walk in the park for the Belgian forward.

Teun Koopmeiners – 6/10

In the right place at the right time to make a crucial interception before displaying a striker-like composure to draw Juventus level. However, he lost track of Matheus Nunes for Man City’s third.

Nico Gonzalez – 5/10

 ............

Dusan Vlahovic – 6/10

Converted the only chance his teammates created for him tonight but spent most of the game as a marginal figure.

Substitutes

Andrea Cambiaso – 6/10

Khephren Thuram – 5/10

Kenan Yildiz – 7/10

Federico Gatti – 5/10

Vasilije Adzic – N/A

Teun Koopmeiners admits ‘there are so many things we need to do better’ after Juventus were swept aside 5-2 by Manchester City in the FIFA Club World Cup. ............

Instead, the Bianconeri were flattened 5-2 in Orlando, including a comical Pierre Kalulu own goal and two efforts that were practically walked into the net by Erling Haaland and Phil Foden. ............

“It was a difficult match, against a very strong opponent,” Koopmeiners said.

“It is tough to play against a team like this, we managed to score two goals when they made mistakes, but there are so many things we need to do better.” ............

“There are so many things we could’ve done better, in terms of technique and also the team work. When we get the ball back, we have to do better. It’s true the opponents were too strong today, but at the same time, we are Juventus.” ............

“I am happy with the goal, we were trailing and it was important to equalise. However, I am sad that we conceded so many goals. It was not a good evening, I too could’ve done better. It is important that we learn from this and improve in the next matches.”

That will likely be against Real Madrid, as by finishing runners-up, Juventus will now face the winners of Group H in the Round of 16. ............

“We talked at half-time and it is disappointing we were not able to do better,” concluded Koopmeiners.

Igor Tudor admits Manchester City ‘are too much’ for Juventus right now after a 5-2 Club World Cup thrashing, but he is more concerned with the Nicolò Savona injury.

The Bianconeri knew they had already qualified for the Round of 16 before going into the match in Orlando this evening, and that a draw would’ve been enough to top the group thanks to scoring more goals against Wydad and Al-Ain. ............

“Manchester City are too much for us,” Tudor said.

“Congratulations to them, it’s an ugly result and we don’t like it. They have enormous quality, character, everything. We wanted to push forward, but we couldn’t get the ball back off them. Then we sat too deep and they scored. At this moment, they are at a different level to us.” ............

“You can do anything in football, even beat a team of another level, but in order to do that, you must be complete, fresh, playing well. This is what makes football the beautiful game,” replied Tudor. ............

“I wanted to rest a few players today and get others into shape by playing. This is a match I do not like, but if I have anything to complain about, it is to myself and not the players, even if the result is bad. It might seem strange, but that’s how I feel,” added Tudor.

“The lads gave their all, now we must put it behind us, because the tournament keeps going. We’ll see who we get and push hard.” ............

“I am not worried, because there are so many different circumstances that must come together. Manchester City have been the best team in the world for the last 10 years. Real Madrid won a lot in that time, but in football terms, City are the best. It’s not strange to struggle against them.”

There is a bigger concern for Tudor and that is the sight of Savona being carried off the field with a badly sprained ankle, meaning his Club World Cup could be over.

“He didn’t look good. We’ll see tomorrow.”

Juventus 2 - Manchester City 5: Initial reaction and random observations

512673653_1262568905427015_4399992242008786226_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_p552x414_tt6&_nc_cat=106&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=833d8c&_nc_ohc=0-6B0T6y6rIQ7kNvwE-HvkN&_nc_oc=AdlnABMR6DSuv64UpPqIOnPy1l-eTv8gAZ66QJhcpyTY_AjnDHUqC-4XQ3ZuQA_NYhdHiVzcQ4Dfbhhqt169iJzi&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent-ams2-1.xx&_nc_gid=m8KnL_up7wnioFZztkaeow&oh=00_AfNxrSh4ZfqxArPdHXpO82bQHSPY0xMob6LS7HATrl4-KQ&oe=6864213B

The step up quality from Juventus’ first two Club World Cup group stage games to Thursday’s Group G finale against Manchester City was a steep one. It was always a given, and the first real test of Igor Tudor and his squad’s credentials after two blowout wins over the two underdogs of the group.

Then came a starting lineup that was less than full strength. Then City starting on the front foot and pinning Juventus back, with the lone bright spot being the massive error at the back that led to Teun Koopmeiners’ 11th-minute goal to tie things up.

Even then, things weren’t great at all.

And you thought it couldn’t get much worse when Pierre Kalulu tried to clear the ball but actually ended up kicking it into his own net.

Oh, it got worse. Much, much worse. ............

Juventus were outclassed in every single way possible in this sport. City outshot Juventus by a wild 24-5 margin. City had more than five times as many shots on goal than Juventus, 11-2. Juve’s only two shots on goal were their actual goals — and, like I said, the first of those goals was absolutely gifted to Koopmeiners thanks to Ederson’s latest blunder in distribution at the back. ............

I don’t blame Tudor for wanting to rotate his squad a little bit. They’re playing their third game in eight days and have been playing in the heat and humidity that has covered large swaths of the United States over the last week. That heat in the middle of the afternoon in Florida is always going to be brutal this time of year — and that is even after a small storm surge rolled over Camping World Stadium midway through the first half.

But, with all of that being said, why so many changes knowing that it’s Manchester City and its roster full of stars and plenty of new additions? I am confused — and I’m not the only one. ............

Even with this Juventus are still going to be playing in the Club World Cup knockout rounds, although now likely facing Real Madrid because of this result and they’re second-place finish in Group G. ............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

 ............

  • I hope that, even with this very bad loss, we have the energy to create a prayer circle for Nicolo Savona’s ankle because that did not look good. Neither did his reaction or ability to put absolutely no weight on it after he was helped off the field.
  • I repeat: If it wasn’t for Michele Di Gregorio, this game would have been even more out of hand than it already was. I can’t remember the last time I saw a keeper see five goals hit the back of the net yet still be considered arguably his team’s best player on the day.
  • That also speaks to how bad the vast majority of his teammates played against City, but still. ............
  • Juventus passes completed in the first half: 116.
  • Man City passes completed in the first half: 397.
  • Juventus passes completed in total: 239.
  • Man City passes completed in total: 771. ............
  • Manchester City’s highest paid player scored a goal just a few minutes after coming on to begin the second half.
  • Juventus’ highest paid player scored a goal when the game was already over. That’s right — for the second straight game, Dusan Vlahovic got himself another goal in garbage time.
  • At least the ball from Kenan Yildiz to Vlahovic was pretty, so there’s that.
  • Juventus went over 70 minutes without a shot on goal. That’s ... not good.
  • I think over that same time span City had about 50 shots on target. Or at leasr that’s what it felt like as I watched all of that nonsense play out.
  • Let’s just go ahead and not talk about Vlahovic’s first scoring chance of the day, OK? Yeah, good, I don’t need to be reminded of that ever again. ............
  • Juventus also completed just 77% of their passes in the first half and couldn’t even get out of their half of the field for large stretches. That’s not great, either.
  • Andrea Cambiaso was subbed on with over half an hour to go and I don’t think I heard his name called out at least once.
  • Speaking subs, why did Tudor wait until the 57th minute to make his first moves? I don’t know and I need somebody to explain it to me as soon as possible. ............
  • In conclusion, Juventus’ inability to have any sort of answer allowed a Manchester City side that is in the early stages of this large-scale (and big-money) rebuild to run all over them. That’s not a good sign for one of those two clubs who played in Orlando on Thursday.

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has urged his side not to underestimate Juventus, as the two clubs prepare to meet in the Club World Cup round of 16.

Both teams made light work of their group – Real Madrid finishing top of their group on seven points and Juventus finishing in second place in theirs with six points. Madrid dropped points against Simone Inzaghi’s Al-Hilal whilst Igor Tudor’s side lost 5-2 to Manchester City in the final group stage match. ............

Xabi Alonso has urged his Real Madrid not to underestimate the Bianconeri, arguing that “the result against [Manchester] City doesn’t matter – they have a great team and it will be really tough.” ............

Alonso is aware of the threat the Old Lady pose, adding that “once you get past the group stage, every match feels like a final. Juve is Juve – they are a historic club in Europe.” ............

When asked about the French forward Kylian Mbappe, Alonso said “We need Kylian, obviously. We want him back as soon as possible and in the best condition. He’s one of the best players in the world so I hope that he will be ready. I can’t guarantee he’ll play but we are optimistic.” ............

Del Piero predicts Real Madrid vs Juventus outcome, reveals favourite to win Club World Cup

Alessandro Del Piero during FIFA Club World Cup draw

Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero offered his own predictions ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup clash against Real Madrid. ............

So while Del Piero will be rooting for his beloved club, he admits that the Spanish giants are the clear favourites to prevail in Tuesday’s Round of 16 encounter.

“Now, listen, as you know my heart is black and white, and it always will be, so I hope I’m wrong, but I think Real will go through,” admitted the 50-year-old. ............

Nevertheless, Del Piero doesn’t think Real Madrid will go all the way in the global tournament, as he backs Paris Saint-Germain to follow up on their Champions League triumph by lifting the Club World Cup.

“Who will win the Club World Cup? Juventus! This is my dream, but I don’t think it can happen. For me, PSG will emerge victorious.” ............

Club World Cup Preview: Real Madrid vs Juventus – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction

Real_Madrid_Juventus_WC_Preview.jpg

Xabi Alonso’s reign is beginning to take shape. After an underwhelming 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal on his touchline debut, the ex-Bayer Leverkusen boss inspired Real Madrid to back-to-back wins in Group H. As a result of their dominant displays in the group stages, Los Blancos find themselves on the same side of the knockout draw as several other European titans. ............

Juventus’ best chance of keeping up with Real Madrid’s ferocious openings is to hit the ground running like they did in their opening two Group G outings. Indeed, the Bianconeri trounced Al-Ain 5-0 in their curtain-raising fixture, largely thanks to an astounding 4-0 lead at halftime.

They were equally prolific in round two, demolishing Wydad AC 4-1 on the back of a 2-0 cushion inside 16 minutes. However, Igor Tudor couldn’t guide Juventus to a top-table finish as Manchester City stopped them in their tracks in the group-stage finale. Pep Guardiola’s charges ran out 5-2 victors in that blockbuster top-table six-pointer to clinch a top spot.

Match Preview

Real Madrid

Whoever progresses from this tie won’t have smooth sailing in the upcoming knockout rounds. With Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Paris Saint-Germain waiting down the stretch, building a head of steam seems crucial for both side’s hopes of conquering the United States-held tournament. ............

Juventus

Five of Juventus’ nine historic wins over Real Madrid have come in the last ten meetings (D2, L3). Therefore, Tudor will lock forward to this heavyweight clash despite suffering only his second defeat since taking over the reins from Thiago Motta toward the end of the 2024/25 club season in Europe (W7, D3).

Man City didn’t only inflict Tudor’s second loss in charge. They also halted Juventus’ four-game winning streak prior. Moreover, Juventus conceded 5+ goals for only the second time in 30 years and the first time in an international competition since 1958. As such, Juventus will be out to get revenge.

Scoring hasn’t been an issue for Juventus, as they’ve netted 2+ goals in their last five games. However, Tudor’s men have averaged only four shots on target per match at the Club World Cup, emphasizing their outstanding conversion ratio. Still, two straight fixtures without a clean sheet cannot inspire great confidence.

Team News

 ............

On the other hand, Juventus are still without long-term absentees Mattia Perin and Juan Cabal. Arkadiusz Milik and Gleison Bremer were on the bench against Man City, with the latter vying for his first start since suffering a disastrous knee injury in October.

Meanwhile, Nicolo Savona’s match fitness is in question. The young gun had to come off midway through the second half against the Citizens. With that in mind, Bremer could make his long-awaited return to the starting XI.

Real Madrid vs Juventus Potential Starting Line-ups

Real Madrid (3-5-2): Courtois; Tchouameni, Rudiger, Huijsen; Alexander-Arnold, Bellingham, Guler, Valverde, F Garcia; Vinicius, G Garcia.

Juventus (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Bremer, Kelly, Kalulu; Costa, Thuram, McKennie, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; Kolo Muani.

Real Madrid vs Juventus Prediction

Much will likely depend on Mbappe’s availability. The Frenchman has been a difference-maker throughout his career, and this is the type of match he thrives in. If fit, his pace and individual brilliance could tilt the balance in Madrid’s favor. Despite heading into the game as outsiders, Juventus won’t go down without a fight.

However, the Italians may return home after tomorrow night.

Prediction: Real Madrid to Win

Preview: Real Madrid vs Juventus - prediction, team news, lineups

Real Madrid vs Juventus | FIFA Club World Cup 2025 | PES Gameplay

European heavyweights Real Madrid and Juventus will lock horns in the last-16 stage of the Club World Cup on Tuesday, with a spot in the quarter-finals of the prestigious competition on offer.

Real Madrid finished top of Group H, picking up seven points from their three matches, while Juventus were second in Group G, claiming six points from their three games in the group stage of the tournament.

Match preview

 ............

Juventus, meanwhile, were excellent in their opening two matches in the group stage of this summer's World Cup, beating Al Ain 5-0 before recording a 4-1 victory over Wydad AC.

The Old Lady went head-to-head with Manchester City last time out for top spot in Group G, and it was the English giants that emerged victorious, recording a 5-2 win over the Serie A outfit.

Igor Tudor's side would not have wanted to be facing Real Madrid at this stage of the tournament, but a victory would see them set up a quarter-final clash against either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey.

Juventus were last Serie A champions in 2019-20, while they finished fourth last term, which is the position that they have claimed in three of their last five seasons in Italy's top flight.

Overall, Juventus and Real Madrid have locked horns on 21 previous occasions, with the Spanish giants leading the head-to-head 10 wins to nine, while there have only been two draws between the two sides. ............

Team News

 ............

As for Juventus, head coach Tudor will make changes to the side that started against Man City last time out.

Indeed, Khephren Thuram is set to return in the middle of midfield, while Kenan Yildiz, Francisco Conceicao and Randal Kolo Muani are all expected to earn recalls in the final third of the field.

There is also set to be a change in the left-sided wing-back role, with Andrea Cambiaso in line to start.

Real Madrid possible starting lineup:

Courtois; Tchouameni, Rudiger, Huijsen; Alexander-Arnold, Bellingham, Guler, Valverde, F Garcia; Vinicius, G Garcia

Juventus possible starting lineup:

Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Gatti, Kelly; Costa, Thuram, McKennie, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Kolo Muani, Yildiz.

We say: Real Madrid 2-1 Juventus

This is such a difficult match to call, and it would not be a surprise to see it go all the way to penalties; Real Madrid were excellent against Salzburg last time out, though, and we are expecting Los Blancos to navigate their way into the quarter-finals of the tournament courtesy of a narrow success.

Juventus probable lineup vs Real Madrid: Two selection dilemmas to resolve

Juventus primed for Club World Cup challenge against Lorch and Mailula's Wydad

On Tuesday, Juventus will be looking to prolong their Club World Cup adventure by beating Real Madrid in Miami.

Needless to say, this won’t be an easy task against arguably the most star-studded squad in the world, especially with Kylian Mbappe tipped to make his return to action.

Moreover, the Serie A giants looked worryingly fragile at the back in their 2-5 defeat to Manchester City in their last group-stage outing. ............

The Croatian manager will maintain his 3-4-2-1 formation, with Michele Di Gregorio starting in goal. Despite their woeful showings against Man City, Pierre Kalulu and Lloyd Kelly will be confirmed amidst the lack of options.

However, Tudor will have a selection headache to resolve following Nicolo Savona’s injury. The young defender could be out for two months after succumbing to injury in Orlando. The manager will decide between Daniele Rugani and Federico Gatti, while the latter is considered the favourite.

In the middle of the park, Khephren Thuram will reclaim his spot alongside club captain Manuel Locatelli, thus dropping Weston McKennie to the bench.

Alberto Costa should maintain his starting berth on the right flank, while Andrea Cambiaso returns to the lineup, taking over from Filip Kostic. ............

In the attacking trident, Randal Kolo Muani and Kenan Yildiz will certainly regain their usual spots at the expense of Dusan Vlahovic and Nico Gonzalez.

However, it remains to be seen if Francisco Conceicao will be ready to start after recovering from a slight knock. If deemed unfit, Teun Koopmeiners will get the nod.

Juventus XI (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Gatti (Rugani), Kelly; Costa, Locatelli, Thuram, Cambiaso; Conceicao (Koopmeiners), Yildiz; Kolo Muani.

Juventus capitulated to Real Madrid in the Club World Cup Round of 16, as Gonzalo Garcia broke through despite Michele Di Gregorio heroics.

The Bianconeri lost Nicolò Savona to a badly sprained ankle during the 5-2 defeat to Manchester City and Federico Gatti had flu symptoms, so Daniele Rugani made his return to Juventus after a year at Ajax. ............

Randal Kolo Muani should’ve put Juve in front after seven minutes when sent clear by Kenan Yildiz, but his lob was over-hit and landed on the roof of an empty net. ............

Kenan Yildiz also saw his curler deflected inches past the far top corner, while Michele Di Gregorio needed a desperate reaction save from point-blank range on Jude Bellingham, allowing Rugani to hoof it clear. ............

Real Madrid finally had the breakthrough when Gonzalo Garcia was left unmarked for a free header from six yards on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s dinked cross after a period of consistent pressure. ............

The Di Gregorio show continued, getting down to fingertip an Aurelien Tchaoumeni daisy-cutter round the upright to keep it open until the final whistle, but Real Madrid will go on to face either Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey in the quarter-final of the Club World Cup. ............
