Juventus announce preseason friendly slate

Juventus, Thiago Motta ha firmato il contratto: oggi l'ufficialità|Mercato | Calciomercato.com

As calendar turns to July and the transfer window officially opens, there are still a lot of mysteries regarding what Juventus is going to look like when the season begins.

One thing that is no longer a mystery is how Juventus will prepare for the new campaign. ............

Thiago Motta’s first game in charge of the Bianconeri will be in just over three weeks, on July 26. That game will be against FC Nurnburg at the German club’s home, the Max-Morlock Stadion. The game will mark the end of an unusual move for the club in terms of preseason training: a six-day training camp at Adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach, Germany. ............

The next friendly will come on August 3 against Ligue 1 side Brest, at the Stadio Adriatico in Pescara. ............

Three days later the club will host what they are referring to as an “open-door training session” at the Allianz Stadium, alongside some select players from the NextGen and Primavera. ............

Juve wraps up their preseason five days later with their marquee matchup of the summer: a match with Atletico Madrid at the Ullevi in Gothenburg, Sweden.

By then, Juve will have long since known who they will be preparing to play on the season’s opening matchday; the 2024-25 Serie A schedule will be released on Thursday.

Thiago Motta and Cristiano Giuntoli waved at Juventus ultras outside the club’s training ground on Thursday morning when die-hard fans urged the team to ‘respect’ the jersey.

Juventus have started the pre-season at Continassa, and around 200 ultras showed up outside the training centre’s gates this morning to support the team and Motta, the new coach.

Ultras told the team to ‘sweat’ for the shirt and respect it during the upcoming campaign, urging the players to show the highest commitment to the club. ............

Former Juventus striker Fernando Llorente has tipped them to win Serie A at the end of this season. ............

He said:

“Juve will win it. They have to start being up there again. Or Napoli, who will only have the championship. Obviously Inter and Milan are also among my favourites. These four can make a vacuum”.  ............

Why Juventus still do not have shirt sponsors for next season

6 2024-2025 Kits Leaked - Footy Headlines

Juventus has launched their new shirt without a front sponsor, as they continue discussions with potential shirt sponsors. ............

Juventus has approached hundreds of brands regarding the vacant sponsorship spot, but they have yet to find the right fit.

The report indicates that many companies finalise their budgets between September and November, which is seen as the optimal time to negotiate and secure sponsorship deals.

As a result, Juventus may start the season without a sponsor on their shirts, at least for the first month. ............

Juventus director gives an update on progress in finding a new sponsor

Calvo.jpg

Juventus still does not have a shirt sponsor ahead of the new season after their contract with Jeep expired. ............

Apart from the financial gain, having a sponsor also makes the club’s shirt more appealing, and it would be unusual for Juve to begin the campaign without a sponsor on their shirt.

The director, Francesco Calvo, has now revealed that the club is in talks to secure a new sponsor for the team.

“The sponsor? We have been penalized because we have not had the opportunity to plan, but the feelings are positive: we have several negotiations in an advanced stage.” ............

Juventus coach Thiago Motta is happy with what he saw at the beginning of the second half against FC Nürnberg but admits the Bianconeri must improve ‘quickly’ and reveals that Matias Soulé didn’t want to be involved in the game. ............

“We can control the game better, keep the ball possession for longer to be organised, tire the opponents out and find the space to attack,” the Juventus coach said in the mixed zone after the game.

“We did well at times at the start of the second half, but then, in the general disorganization going forward, we let the opponents the opportunity to find space. At the start of the second half, I saw a team that could dominate the opponents and create. This is our idea. We must stretch this moment and try to do it for as long as possible.

“We prepared well. Of course, some players struggle a bit more in this period because we are training more intensively than during the season,” insisted Motta.

“Today’s defeat must be taken in the right way but surely we must improve quickly. We must continue working like this, as we’ve done these days.” ............

Last but not least, Motta spoke about Juventus’ summer strategies with the Bianconeri expected to sign at least three more players.

“I am sure we’ll build a competitive team,” said the coach.

“We’ll get the players we need at the right time, but I do no doubt we’ll have a competitive team.”

a black and white photo of the letter j

Several Juventus stars have not yet returned from their summer holidays to join preseason preparations for the new campaign.

The Bianconeri had many players who reached the latter stages of Euro 2024 and Copa America 2024. These players have been given extended breaks and have not yet joined the rest of the squad. ............

Players like Kenan Yildiz, Danilo, Gleison Bremer, and Douglas Luiz are expected to return on the 29th of this month.

Their return will boost the Bianconeri, and Motta will have more key players available as he plans for the new season. ............

Juventus won the traditional game against their Next Gen side 4-0, including a wonderful Khephren Thuram goal, but there was tension with jeers against Manuel Locatelli.

The Bianconeri always have a pre-season match against the youth side, but while it is usually at the training ground, this time it was held at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in front of 40,000 fans.

Coach Thiago Motta again left out the players who are not part of the project, including Federico Chiesa, Wojciech Szczesny, Arkadiusz Milik and Weston McKennie. ............

There were moments of real tension when a section of the fans loudly jeered at midfielder Locatelli, though the rest of the crowd responded with applause.

After the restart, Kenan Yildiz scored from the edge of the area on a Douglas Luiz corner kick, then Thuram impressed with a spectacular lob from distance.

Juventus patron John Elkann said their objective this season is to ‘be competitive’ and begin ‘a new era’ under coach Thiago Motta. ............

“What Juventus have today is a coach with great potential. We are opening up a new era and it is wonderful to do that with a young coach and a young squad.” ............

“To be competitive. This is clear to both Thiago Motta and the team. Our ideas are also shared by the new coach. We have Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League, so there is a lot of work to be done.

“It is great to be here with a full stadium. The bond between my family and Juventus is strong, we are at home today, in our stadium, and it’s wonderful to see Juventus playing against our future.” ............

Juventus player ratings vs Atletico Madrid: Thuram Top, Vlahovic Flop

170740157-d7a0001a-9257-4d14-ae1e-dcdf44d7937a.jpg

Juventus ended their pre-season tour with a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Bianconeri dominated possession and had dangerous chances in the first half, but Dusan Vlahovic was far from clinical. ............

Despite Juve’s defeat, there were some encouraging signs both on the individual and collective levels. ............

Khephren Thuram was the club’s best performer. The 23-year-old won possession on countless occasions and did fairly well in the buildup phase.

Manuel Locatelli and Douglas Luiz weren’t too far behind, also producing an encouraging display in the middle of the park. The same goes for Timothy Weah who caused havoc on the right wing on a few occasions.

On the contrary, Vlahovic received the lowest grade among the starters after squandering several scoring opportunities.

Nicolo Fagioli also failed to make an impact after taking the field in the second half.

Juventus (4-1-4-1): Di Gregorio (6.5); Cambiaso (6), Gatti (6), Bremer (6), Cabal (5.5); Thuram (7); Weah (6.5), Locatelli (6.5), Douglas Luiz (6.5), Yildiz (6); Vlahovic (5) – Subs: Danilo (5.5), Fagioli (5) – Coach. Thiago Motta (6.5)

Video – The highlights from Juventus vs Atletico Madrid: Motta’s men end pre-season in defeat

e9s7o54wt7qcodaksb7o.jpg

On Sunday afternoon, Juventus met Atletico Madrid in their final pre-season friendly of the summer. The encounter took place in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The two sides traded jabs in the first half, but neither was able to break the deadlock. Dusan Vlahovic was particularly wasteful for the Italian giants. ............

The Bianconeri faithful will be hoping for a more convincing display when the Serie A campaign kicks off next Monday.

Thiago Motta’s men will host Como at the Allianz Stadium on Matchday One.

Varane has an injury and likely to miss Serie A opener against Juventus

Juventus - Como : gli highlights | Lega Serie A

Juventus has received a boost ahead of their first match of the season, as Como has lost Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman is the most high-profile player on Cesc Fàbregas’ side, having joined to aid their efforts to stay in Serie A. ............

Varane pulled up in Como’s recent Coppa Italia game against Sampdoria.

He was on the pitch for only the first 20 minutes before being taken off, and he had an ice pack on his knee.

This suggests that he may have suffered a significant injury, which could rule him out of the match between Juventus and Como. ............

Preview: Juventus vs Como – Team News, Line-ups & Prediction

Juventus_Como_Preview.jpg

Monday is a historic day for Serie A newcomers Como as they head to Turin to take on Juventus in their first top-flight game in 21 years. Heavily fancied to take three points at their home stadium, the record-time Italian champions are looking forward to Thiago Motta’s touchline debut. ............

Match Preview

Juventus

Though Allegri’s football often bored Juventus fans to death, it paid dividends, as the Turin giants return to European football after a season-long absence. But before the new-look Champions League league phase puts the squeeze on the team’s calendar, Motta hopes to launch a genuine Scudetto push.

There’s no better place to make his competitive debut as Juventus manager than the Allianz Stadium. His men have lost a league-four Serie A home matches across the last two seasons, turning their stadium into a near-unbreachable fortress. That stronghold bids to repel Como, with the Bianconeri vying for another flying Serie A start.

Juventus have won their opening home league outing in seven of the last ten years (D1, L2). It’s equally significant to note that Motta’s men haven’t lost a Serie A game on their home ground since early February, stitching together a resounding seven-game unbeaten run in Turin (W3, D4).

However, with their last five league matches at home featuring under 2.5 goals, entertainment could be at a premium on Monday.

Como

Como reigned supreme in Serie B last season, racking up 73 points en route to a runner-up finish behind Parma. But the 2024/25 campaign was off to a slow start. After a 1-1 draw in regulation, second-tier Sampdoria bettered the Lariani on penalties in last weekend’s Coppa Italia round two. ............

Team News

Fabio Miretti is still on the sidelines with an injury. But Juventus will have the remainder of their squad fit and ready for the opening day clash, including all four summer signings. Only Cabal may not be part of Motta’s starting XI, with Andrea Cambiaso likely to start on the left wing.

As for Como, Varane picked up an injury against Sampdoria and may not recover in time to face Juventus. Audero should be in goal, while Moreno and Belotti look set to make their Serie A debuts for the Lariani from the start.

Juventus vs Como Potential Line-ups

Juventus (4-2-3-1): Michele Di Gregorio; Danilo, Federico Gatti, Gleison Bremer, Andrea Cambiaso; Douglas Luiz, Khephren Thuram; Timothy Weah, Nicolo Fagioli, Kenan Yildiz; Dusan Vlahovic.

Como (4-2-3-1): Emil Audero; Kovacik, Edoardo Goldaniga, Alberto Dossena, Alberto Moreno; Oliver Abildgaard, Luca Mazzitelli; Gabriel Strefezza, Patrick Cutrone, Lucas Da Cunha; Andrea Belotti.

Juventus vs Como Prediction

Juventus had an underwhelming pre-season. A 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in their final pre-season runout was hardly a good way to prepare for the opening league fixture. However, they’re still favorites to extend Como an unpleasant welcome to Serie A, and we expect them to live up to the billing.

Prediction: Juventus to Win

Juventus vs Como Prediction and Betting Tips

A new season starts under new management for Serie A giants Juventus, as they host promoted Como on Monday evening.

After a summer of change, the Thiago Motta era now begins in earnest - but Juve's ambitious opponents will be intent on spoiling the party.

Match preview

Motta's Bologna side particularly impressed last term, and during his time in Emilia-Romagna they kept 18 clean sheets in home matches, conceding only 23 goals across 35 games at Stadio Dall'Ara.

Having refreshed Juve's squad with new players such as Michele Di GregorioKhephren Thuram and Douglas Luiz, he then led them into pre-season, which featured defeats to Nurnberg and Atletico Madrid either side of a 2-2 draw with Brest.

Now, Juventus meet Como on Serie A's opening matchday for the first time since 1988, when the Bianconeri strolled to a 3-0 victory - a repeat on Monday would make for the perfect start to Motta's reign.

Indeed, Como are on a 21-game winless streak against Juve in Serie A, and they incidentally return to Calcio's top flight after 21 years away.

Now promoted from his official role as assistant, Cesc Fabregas will spearhead the Lariani's comeback campaign, having taken over from Osian Roberts - the latter moved upstairs to become head of development after securing promotion.

A club run by the richest owners in Italian football have ambitions of making a major impact in the years ahead, and with a World Cup winner in the dugout, recruitment has been made somewhat easier: Raphael Varane recently became their highest-profile signing so far. ............

Team News

New boys Douglas Luiz and Michele Di Gregorio should both start in a new-look XI, alongside Khephren Thuram, who joins his brother - Inter's Marcus Thuram - in Italy: over the last three Ligue 1 seasons no Nice player has recorded more completed dribbles, chances created or shots attempted following a carry. ............

Juventus possible starting lineup:
Di Gregorio; Danilo, Gatti, Bremer, Cambiaso; Thuram; Weah, Locatelli, Luiz, Yildiz; Vlahovic

Como possible starting lineup:
Reina; Cassandro, Goldaniga, Dossena, Moreno; Braunoder, Mazzitelli; Strefezza, Cutrone, Da Cunha; Belotti

We say: Juventus 2-0 Como

Juventus have won more Serie A openers than any other club - including seven wins across their last eight - and they should do so for a 60th time on Monday.

As Como will take time to adapt to their new surroundings, a Juve side hungry to impress under new management can ruthlessly exploit their visitors' weaknesses.

Motta confirms McKennie’s return to Juventus squad, but Chiesa still out: “Our position hasn’t changed”

La conferenza stampa di Thiago Motta alla vigilia di Juventus-Como - Juventus

Juventus manager Thiago Motta confirmed Weston McKennie has been reinstated to the squad, unlike Federico Chiesa. ............

On the eve of the opening fixture of the season against Como, Motta revealed that McKennie has returned to the fold.

“McKennie is a useful and functional player for our needs,” said the Juventus coach in his pre-match press conference.

“Tomorrow we only have 19 players available. We are fine, we had a good pre-season and we’re ready for Como.”

“The situation regarding Chiesa hasn’t changed. We discussed it internally. It shows the respect I have for the players. It’s all about transparency and clarity. ............

“We can’t wait for tomorrow’s match. We’re looking forward to taking on our opponents and reaching our objective. We want to put in a great performance and get the result we want.

Motta warned Kenan Yildiz of the responsibility that accompanies the iconic Number 10 jersey.

“It is a great responsibility. Wearing a historic number, but he is a strong player, with a strong personality and a good work ethic.

Finally, Motta heaped praise on Dusan Vlahovic while urging his teammates to support him in attack.

“Dusan looks fine, he is working well, and helping his teammates. We are keeping him close to us, so that he can give us a big hand.

“He is a great striker but all the players need the team. I am very happy, I have great enthusiasm and we have great energy to do a great job tomorrow and bring three points home.”
