Tudor lauds ‘strong’ Koopmeiners, weighs in on Vlahovic & David

200801150-afd36739-f489-4014-9131-b3170482d949.jpg

Juventus head coach Igor Tudor was full of praise for Teun Koompmeiners following Saturday’s friendly win over Atalanta.

The Bianconeri had their dress rehearsal before next weekend’s Serie A opener against Atalanta. They managed to round off a brief, yet positive, pre-season by beating La Dea in Bergamo by two goals to one. ............

The Dutchman has been mostly playing as an attacking midfielder since his arrival in Turin, but Tudor is adamant about testing him in a deeper role. ............

“Teun was very good,” said Tudor in his post-match press conference. “He’s a strong player. I really liked his display today.” ............

The 46-year-old was also asked about Jonathan David who had a quiet evening, but ended up breaking the deadlock in the 73rd minute with an acrobatic effort.

“When you play against Atalanta, you have to be ready for a duel. It wasn’t easy against Hien, so welcome to Italian football!

“Jonathan moved a lot, he worked hard, he gave everything. It was different for him at Lille, as he didn’t have as many duels. Today, he had more duels than he did while playing 10 games for Lille, and then he scored in the box. He’s an excellent player.” ............

“I won’t talk about the transfer market, there are still 10 days left. I liked Dusan’s performance. He’s valuable and he’s a Juventus player.”

Tudor will only make one change to Juventus starting lineup against Parma

211545948-02ebe89c-3f26-45b4-8a64-7e93da795367.jpg

Ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Parma, Juventus manager Igor Tudor is only expected to introduce a single change to the starting lineup that took on Atalanta in their last pre-season friendly. ............

On Saturday, the Croatian manager decided to field a strong starting XI against Atalanta. In the end, the Turin-based giants prevailed in Bergamo by two goals to one, courtesy of Jonathan David and Dusan Vlahovic.

That contest provided an important indicator on how the team will line up, at least in the opening rounds of the season.

Tudor will maintain the same lineup when they host Parma on the opening day of the Serie A campaign, with only one exception. ............

In the middle of the park, Manuel Locatelli will replace Teun Koopmeiners. Although the Dutchman didn’t embarrass himself in the deeper role, the club captain and Khephren Thuram remain ahead of him in the pecking order.

Juventus expected XI (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Gatti, Bremer, Kelly; Gonzalez, Locatelli, Thuram, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; David.

Massimo Mauro backs Juventus to be tough to beat this season

200758878-377e1504-704e-4153-8a45-932000f470d2.jpg

Juventus remain one of the leading contenders in Serie A, starting each season as one of the favourites to secure the league title. Despite a period of transition marked by changes in their squad, expectations among their supporters remain high as the transfer window nears its conclusion. ............

Another point of distinction for Juventus lies in their managerial stability. They are among the few leading Italian clubs that have not changed managers during the summer and are one of only two teams from last season’s top four that retained their coach. This continuity could serve as an advantage in a season where many rivals face the task of adapting to new leadership. Nonetheless, the onus remains on the squad to demonstrate its quality on the pitch against determined opposition. ............

Massimo Mauro offered his perspective on the club’s prospects: “Juventus is at the same point as a month ago, but they have a coach who hasn’t put a foot wrong. He’s there to solve the team’s problems. He’s treated everyone equally and he can’t do more than that. It will be a difficult Juve to beat, they will have pride and enthusiasm, as is their old habit, as is in their DNA: this will be the guarantee of a good championship when the team is complete, in a market with so many difficulties buying and selling.” ............

Preview: Juventus vs Parma - prediction, team news, lineups

FC 25 - Juventus vs Parma | Serie A 2024/25 | PS5™ [4K60]

Again hoping to reclaim the Serie A title, fallen giants Juventus will kick off another league campaign on Sunday evening, when they welcome Parma to Turin.

The Bianconeri endured more strife last season, before salvaging a precious top-four finish; meanwhile, their Gialloblu counterparts successfully avoided relegation.

Match preview

Previously Serie A champions for nine straight years, Juventus have now failed to claim top spot in Serie A since 2020, only scraping into fourth place last term following yet another year of turmoil.

The Turin club also made an early exit from the Champions League, as a repeated failure to convert draws into wins continually cost them dear: equalling a club record, they drew 20 games across all competitions.

Almost inevitably, Thiago Motta was sacked before completing his first season; having been hired to replace Motta in March, interim boss Igor Tudor - a former Juve defender and assistant - impressively steadied the ship.

After more boardroom ineptitude meant they failed to secure the signature of either Antonio Conte or Gian Piero Gasperini, Tudor was invited to extend his contract and lead Juventus into the new-look Club World Cup.

Following some solid performances in the United States, where Juve went out in the last 16 to Real Madrid, a shortened pre-season schedule finished with last week's 2-1 win over Atalanta.

Movement in the transfer market has been limited, as the Bianconeri continue to pay for past mistakes, but Jonathan David's arrival from Lille should inject some life into a misfiring front line. ............

Juventus pre-season form: D W W

Parma form (all competitions): W

Team News

As an endless contract saga - and some shoddy finishing - has seen Dusan Vlahovic slip down the pecking order, Jonathan David is set lead the front line for Juventus.

The Canadian striker has scored at least 15 goals in all of his last four Ligue 1 campaigns, and with Randal Kolo Muani still awaiting the chance to turn last season's loan into a permanent move, he will spearhead Juve's attack.

Having followed another loanee, Francisco Conceicao, in joining the club from Porto this summer, Joao Mario may start on the right flank.

While Nicolo Savona, Juan Cabal and Fabio Miretti are all ruled out by injury, Brazilian centre-back Bremer makes a welcome return. ............

Juventus possible starting lineup: Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly; Mario, Thuram, Locatelli, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; David

Parma possible starting lineup: Suzuki; Delprato, Circati, Valenti; Lovik, Bernabe, Keita, Valeri; Almqvist, Ordonez; Pellegrino ............

We say: Juventus 3-1 Parma

To date, Juventus and Parma have faced each other four times on matchday one, with the Bianconeri winning all four games by an aggregate scoreline of 9-2.

Juve will come out on top once again, as their new-look attack can hurt the visitors' dubious defence.

Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli has revealed there is a “new energy” at the Bianconeri, as the Old Lady prepare for their opening fixture of the new Serie A season against Parma on Sunday. ............

“On Sunday, we kick off,” the central midfielder said as he began answering the questions, “We are very excited to get started. We cannot wait for the league to begin and we will be in front of our fans.” Locatelli then confessed his thoughts on Juventus’ 2024-25 campaign, which was overall disappointing despite the Bianconeri qualifying for the Champions League, “Last year was certainly a long season but now we have got new energy. We had a good pre-season and I think the work we did in Germany was useful – so we are happy and full of energy to start this new campaign.” ............

When asked about Tudor, Locatelli replied “The coach is very fired up. He is definitely different to the managers we’ve had before. He asks for a lot of intensity, a lot of discipline but I think the most important thing is that he knows the DNA of this shirt… so we are already starting from a solid base.” ............

Locatelli scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in Juventus’ 3-2 final day victory over Venezia last season; a victory that saw the Bianconeri pip Roma to Champions League qualification by just one point. When asked about his decisive goal, the captain responded: “That ball was incredibly heavy, of course. However, I am the captain of this team and in these moments, I have to take responsibility. So I am very excited and proud of what I did.

“It was a big responsibility but now we have a whole season ahead of us to play, a season full of new goals. That penalty helped us qualify for the Champions League but I am very happy and proud of the work we did together as a team.”

Serie A Preview: Juventus vs Parma – Team News Line-ups & Prediction

Juventus_Parma_Preview.jpg

After five years without a Scudetto, Juventus head into their 2025/26 Serie A season opener against Parma keen to make a statement. Allianz Stadium is the venue as the record-time Italian champions seek a winning start that could set the tone for a long-awaited title charge.

Despite suffering a joint-low four league defeats last season, Juventus sneaked into the top four by the skin of their teeth. Indeed, a 3-2 win at relegated Venezia on the final weekend saw the Turin powerhouse beat Roma to a coveted fourth place by a single point. ............

Tudor’s fate in the dugout will likely depend on Juve’s ability to compete for the title. Beating Parma would be a perfect way to kick off the season, but the visitors won’t arrive at the Allianz Stadium to make up the numbers. Instead, they’ll look to impress on Carlos Cuesta’s touchline debut in Serie A.

As the third-youngest coach to ever debut in the top flight, Cuesta has a point to prove this season. The 30-year-old ended his stint as Mikel Arteta’s assistant manager at Arsenal to replace Cristian Chivu in June. Like his predecessor, Cuesta’s sole mission is to keep Parma clear of a relegation battle.

Match Preview

Juventus

Though Juventus made plenty of noise in recent transfer windows, they’ve seemingly decided to keep a low profile this summer. Except for the arrival of Jonathan David from Lille on a free transfer, Joao Mario remains the only other senior addition.

Juventus paid Porto around €12 million to sign the Portuguese fullback. However, they had to splash north of €100 million to make the transfers of Francisco Conceicao, Nico Gonzalez, Lloyd Kelly, and Pierre Kalulu permanent. But one more reinforcement toward the end of the summer remains a genuine possibility.

Defensive solidity was the key behind Juventus’ top-four finish last term, with only reigning holders Napoli (19) keeping more clean sheets than the Bianconeri’s 18 in Serie A. Furthermore, they were among the division’s fastest starters in 2024/25, breaking the deadlock in the second-most 25 matches.

Against this backdrop, they let Parma draw first blood in both last season’s meetings, failing to take three points on each occasion (D1, L1). Nonetheless, they are still far ahead of the Crusaders in the all-time head-to-head record (W35, D19, L14).

Parma

 ............

Team News

Juventus are still without Juan Cabal, who missed the better part of last season due to injury. However, star center-back Gleison Bremer is back from a lengthy spell on the sidelines and will likely be at the heart of Tudor’s backline. Meanwhile, David should lead the line at the expense of Dusan Vlahovic. ............

Juventus vs Parma Potential Starting Line-ups

Juventus (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly; Mario, Thuram, Locatelli, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; David.

Parma (3-4-2-1): Suzuki; Delprato, Circati, Valenti; Lovik, Bernabe, Keita, Valeri; Almqvist, Ordonez; Pellegrino.

Juventus vs Parma Prediction

Anything other than three routine points for Juventus would be a major disappointment for the Turin club. However, the Bianconeri should take all three points and uphold their 100% win ratio in opening-day matches against Parma in Serie A (W4).

Prediction: Juventus to Win

On Sunday evening, Juventus kick off their 2025-26 Serie A campaign at the Allianz Stadium, welcoming Carlos Cuesta’s Parma as Igor Tudor’s Bianconeri look to get their season off to a winning start.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Tudor underlined the excitement of returning to competitive action, “These are great emotions. I like when you play and there is something at stake. I don’t like pre-season, the friendlies. The team is ready, we want to start well. The players have trained well and the feelings are positive.” ............

“Koopmeiners played a great match in Bergamo, he’s important for us, he’ll have a big season, even if a lot has already been said about him.” ............

Manuel Locatelli confirmed to be keeping the captain’s armband: “I’m happy he is here with us, he’s the captain. We’ll start again with the captain. The vice-captain will be Bremer, then there are Yildiz, Thuram and Gatti. This is the group of captains and this is the hierarchy.” ............

“Everyone moved well but we lacked a bit of freshness in this preparation, even with two good wins. I expect more freshness and always something extra. We must push forward with as many players as possible but without losing balance or risking counters. Over time, the connections and understanding will improve, but we must always stay sharp.”

Jonathan David, one of the Old Lady’s new signings this summer, earned specific praise from the coach: “He’s a good player, very focused, applied and that is what I like from strikers. When you tell him something, he does it. In the area he moves well, he is always dangerous. I’m happy with him. A good guy, a real professional.” ............

“I’m happy with the squad I have. The market is complicated but I focus on coaching. I trust my club, they know my thoughts. This is a good group of players and good guys.” ............

“For five years Juventus haven’t finished first or second. Saying we will be first, second or eighth doesn’t change a thing – they’re just words. These games of ‘favourites’ make me laugh. It’s smoke. The only thing that matters is working well. They say we are worth of fourth, fifth or sixth – that can only be a motivator.”

Round 1: Juventus vs. Parma match preview

gettyimages-2229973089.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&crop=0,0.0071994240460782,100,99.985601151908

 ............

This Sunday night, Juventus are taking to the Allianz Stadium field for their season opener against Parma.

It’s the start of a new season, but with how congested the footballing calendar has become, it’s sometimes hard to not feel like one season ends and another one just rolls right up behind it.

But in a summer that has seen plenty of changes around Serie A — both in terms of managerial departures and arrivals as well as plenty of talent head out to the riches of the Premier League once again — Juventus’ squad is … relatively the same. ............

Yet, a new season is about to begin.

And with it, it’s still relatively hard to say what the ceiling is for this team — and not in the way in which they make you think they have an unlimited amount of potential because they’ve got so much talent. ............

Juventus’ opponent at the Allianz this weekend just so happen to be the same Parma side that took points off the Bianconeri in both of their meetings last season. However, this is a Parma that has a new coach — and one that, at 30 years old, is nearly a decade younger than the fella writing this point — and just sold arguably its biggest asset in Giovanni Leoni last week. ............

TEAM NEWS

  • While Sunday night’s fixture will not be his first game in charge of Juventus, it will mark the third time in as many years in which the Bianconeri will have somebody different managing their season opener. ............
  • Both of Juventus’ new summer signings, Jonathan David and Joao Mario, are expected to be in the starting lineup against Parma. (We’ll talk about one of these guys in a second or two.)
  • Just n case we needed final confirmation, Sunday night will indeed be Gleison Bremer’s return to the Juventus starting lineup, his first official appearance since his ACL injury against RB Leipzig in October.
  • In case you’re wondering, the referee for this one will be Matteo Marcenaro. Remember him? You should! He was the referee during the 2-2 draw with Salernitana in which we thought Juventus had one it super late but their game-winning goal was called offside even though Antonio Candreva was keeping everybody onside. Good times, right?

JUVENTUS PLAYER TO WATCH

New season. New striker up front. The highest-paid player in Serie A is still around, so that technically doesn’t mean a new No. 9 just yet, but it’s just a matter of time before that actually happens.

So, yeah. Let’s talk about Canada. Or at least Juventus’ new Canadian frontman.

As mentioned, Jonathan David is almost certain to start up top as Juventus’ No. 9 in Tudor’s 3-4-2-1 against Parma on Sunday night even though he won’t be the club’s official No. 9 jersey-wise this season. It’s the position in which we’ve all expected him to take over since the day he signed no matter what somebody like Vlahovic might be up to when the 2025-26 season began. (Hint: he’s still here.) ............

When it comes to David, we’ve already seen in small glimpses the impact he can have on a team’s attack during the preseason friendlies he participated in. We’ve seen the way he could develop something with Kenan Yildiz. We’ve seen the ability to use his agility and mobility to his advantage so that he’s also able to create chances for teammates rather than essentially being a one-trick pony and isolated up front. There just seems to be more possibilities for how Juve may be able to hurt teams in the final third now compared to a few months ago when Vlahovic was still getting big minutes.

Will he scored an overhead kick every time out like he did in Juve’s final friendly against Atalanta last weekend? Of course not. But David’s talent is obvious — and now he gets the chance to finally show it in Turin after so much waiting.

Juventus vs Parma: Preview and Prediction

PREVIEW | Juventus vs Parma - team news, lineups, predictions - Yahoo Sports

Juventus begin their latest bid to reclaim the Serie A crown on Sunday evening as they welcome Parma to the Allianz Stadium in Turin. Once dominant with nine consecutive league titles, the Bianconeri have endured years of decline and inconsistency, but a fourth-place finish last season at least secured a return to the Champions League. Parma, meanwhile, avoided relegation last term and will aim to establish themselves more firmly in the Italian top flight. ............

Tudor steadied the ship impressively, guiding the club back into the top four despite a campaign in which Juve were plagued by stalemates, they drew 20 matches across all competitions, equalling an unwanted club record. Hopes of a major managerial appointment fell flat as Juventus failed to secure Antonio Conte or Gian Piero Gasperini, leading the hierarchy to extend Tudor’s stay.

The Croat also guided the club into the newly expanded Club World Cup after a respectable summer showing that ended with elimination to Real Madrid in the last 16. Their preparations for Serie A included a 2-1 win over Atalanta, offering cautious optimism that Tudor’s pragmatic approach can deliver results.

In the transfer market, activity has been restrained as Juventus continue to wrestle with the consequences of past financial missteps. The marquee signing of Jonathan David from Lille, however, provides fresh firepower to a frontline that too often misfired last season. His arrival will be central to the club’s hopes of returning to the summit of Italian football. ............

Team News & Tactics

Juventus

Juventus enter their Serie A opener with some notable absentees but also important reinforcements. Young midfielder Nicolo Savona, defender Juan Cabal, and playmaker Fabio Miretti are all sidelined due to injury, limiting Igor Tudor’s options in central areas. However, Brazilian centre-back Bremer has recovered in time to feature, providing a significant boost to the Bianconeri’s defensive structure. There are no suspension concerns heading into the clash.

In attack, Dusan Vlahovic’s uncertain contract situation combined with inconsistent finishing has seen him slip down the pecking order, paving the way for new signing Jonathan David to spearhead the front line. The Canadian striker arrives from Lille with a prolific record, having scored at least 15 league goals in each of the past four Ligue 1 campaigns. He will be supported by rising star Kenan Yıldız and fellow summer arrival Francisco Conceicao, who impressed on loan last season before joining permanently from Porto.

On the right flank, Joao Mario, another recruit from Porto, could be handed his first league start, offering energy and width. In midfield, Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram are expected to provide balance between defensive solidity and progressive play, while Andrea Cambiaso should occupy the left wing-back role. At the back, Bremer will be flanked by Pierre Kalulu and Lloyd Kelly, forming a three-man defensive line in front of new goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.

Juventus are therefore expected to line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation. Michele Di Gregorio will start in goal, shielded by Pierre Kalulu, Bremer, and Lloyd Kelly as the central defensive trio. Joao Mario and Andrea Cambiaso will operate as wing-backs, with Khephren Thuram and Manuel Locatelli anchoring the midfield. Further forward, Francisco Conceicao and Kenan Yıldız will provide creativity and attacking support just behind Jonathan David, who will lead the line as the lone striker.

Probable Lineup (3-4-2-1): Di Gregorio; Kalulu, Bremer, Kelly; Mario, Thuram, Locatelli, Cambiaso; Conceicao, Yildiz; David

Juventus vs Parma: Preview and Prediction.

Parma

 ............

Probable Lineup (3-4-2-1): Suzuki; Delprato, Circati, Valenti; Lovik, Bernabe, Keita, Valeri; Almqvist, Ordonez; Pellegrino

Juventus vs Parma: Preview and Prediction.

Key Stats

  • Juventus will feature in a Serie A season for the 93rd time in their histor. Only Inter Milan (94) have played more. The Bianconeri also hold the record for the most opening-day wins in Serie A, with 61 victories on Matchday 1.

  • Parma will compete in successive Serie A campaigns for the first time since 2019/20 and 2020/21. On that earlier occasion, they also faced Juventus on Matchday 1, losing 1-0 to the Bianconeri in August 2019.

  • Juventus and Parma have met four times previously on Serie A opening days, with Juventus winning all four encounters. Across those fixtures, the Bianconeri scored nine goals while conceding just two.

  • Juventus will start a Serie A campaign under a foreign coach for the first time since 1973/74, when Czech manager Cestmir Vycpalek was in charge. On that occasion, Juve opened with a 2-1 victory over Foggia.

  • Parma’s new coach Carlos Cuesta will make history as the club’s first foreign manager to lead them on an opening day of a Serie A season. At just 30 years and 26 days old, he will also become the third-youngest manager to debut in Italy’s top flight.

Player to Watch

Jonathan David

Juventus’s marquee signing of the summer, Jonathan David, is expected to carry much of the club’s attacking burden this season. The Canadian striker arrives from Lille with a proven track record, having scored at least 15 goals in each of his last four Ligue 1 campaigns. His pace, sharp movement, and ability to finish with both feet make him an all-rounded threat inside the penalty area. ............

On his Serie A debut, David will be eager to make an immediate impact in front of the Allianz Stadium crowd. A strong performance against Parma could set the tone for his season and underline why Juventus see him as the man to lead their revival.

Prediction

Juventus 2-0 Parma

Juventus are far from the all-conquering force they once were, but with Igor Tudor bringing a sense of stability and Jonathan David set to inject new energy into their attack, they remain a formidable side at home.

Parma have already proven capable of troubling Juve and will arrive with belief under their ambitious new coach, yet the gulf in quality and experience should ultimately show. The Hard Tackle predicts a 2-0 win for Igor Tudor and his charges.

Juventus 2-0 Parma: Yildiz inspires opening-day victory for 10-man Bianconeri

Kenan Yildiz and Dusan Vlahovic

Juventus began their Serie A campaign on the right foot, beating Parma by two unanswered goals at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

Igor Tudor maintained his usual 3-4-2-1 formation, spearheaded by Jonathan David on his club debut. Kenan Yildiz and Francisco Conceicao acted as his support crew, while Pierre Kalulu played in an unusual role on the right wing, with Andrea Cambiaso on the opposite side.

Aside from a couple of early scares, the Bianconeri dominated the action in the first half. ............

After the break, Juventus attacked the visitors with more intent and tenacity. Conceicao almost broke the deadlock, but his deflected shot rattled against the post.

Nevertheless, the home side eventually took the lead as Kenan Yildiz played a short corner kick before dribbling past his marker and sending a square ball to the mouth of the goal. David showcased his swift reaction and clinical touch as he directed the ball home with the outside of his foot to celebrate his first Juventus goal.

With seven minutes remaining of normal time, Cambiaso put the result in jeopardy as he got himself sent off for a foolish reaction on Mathias Fjørtoft Løvik. ............

However, Dusan Vlahovic eased the Old Lady’s fears by scoring the second goal shortly following his introduction. ............

Juventus celebrated a well-earned 2-0 win over the Crociati, and they’ll be hoping to do likewise next weekend when they play Genoa in their first away fixture of the season.

Jonathan David scored on his Serie A debut and Dusan Vlahovic proved he’s still got something to say at Juventus, who beat Parma despite the Andrea Cambiaso red card. ............

An early flicked-on long throw caused havoc at the back post, Andrea Cambiaso decisive to block Mathias Lovik’s tap-in.

At the other end, Zion Suzuki had to flap a Francisco Conceicao diving header over the bar after an awkward bounce off the turf. ............

Bremer made a fantastic goal-saving block straight after the restart, throwing himself in the way of the Mateo Pellegrino tap-in from six yards on a Pontus Almqvist pull-back. ............

After a desperate Lautaro Valenti interception stopped the David flick, on the resulting corner, Kenan Yildiz twisted and turned down the left to roll across and David prodded home with the outside of the right boot from five yards. It was the first ever Canadian goal for Juventus.

Pellegrino only grazed his head to the Almqvist cross from close range, but Suzuki got down for a tough save to push the Kenan Yildiz control and ferocious half-volley out of the near bottom corner.

Juventus went down to 10 men as Andrea Cambiaso was perhaps harshly shown a straight red card for a reaction foul on Lovik.

However, moments later they doubled their lead when Vlahovic went on the counter-attack and combined with Kenan Yildiz, ready to tap in the return pass from the right. ............

Juventus 2-0 Parma

David 59 (J), Vlahovic 84 (J)

Sent off: Cambiaso 83 (J)

Kenan Yildiz provided two assists in Juventus’ 2-0 win over Parma and was the MOTM at the Allianz Stadium.

Juventus 2-0 Parma player ratings

Juventus: Di Gregorio 6.5; Gatti 6 (58′ Joao Mario 6), Bremer 7, Kelly 5.5; Kalulu 6.5, Locatelli 6 (58′ Koopmeiners 6), Thuram 6.5, Cambiaso 4.5; Conceicao 6.5 (80′ Nico Gonzalez N/A), Yildiz 8 (89′ McKennie N/A); David 7 (80′ Vlahovic 7). Coach: Tudor 7.

Best Juventus player: Yildiz 8 – Easily the Man of the match with two assists. He was probably a bit soft in the first half, but he made the difference after the break. Two beautiful passes and three points for the Old Lady. The most talented player in the team, but this is no news.

Lowest Juventus rating: Cambiaso 4.5 – Received an avoidable red card, which could have caused trouble for his teammates. Luckily for the Old Lady, Vlahovic doubled the lead just a few minutes later. ............

Juventus coach: Tudor 7 – Juventus played with intensity, tried to win the ball high up the pitch, but were also quite organised defensively, although Parma had a massive chance to take the lead early in the second half, when a Gleison Bremer clearance denied Mateo Pellegrino.

Parma: Suzuki 7; Delprato 5.5, Circati 5, Valenti 5; Lovik 5.5 (90′ Estevez N/A), Bernabé 6, Keita 5.5 (90′ Djuric N/A), Ordoñez 5.5 (58′ Sorensen 6), Valeri 5.5; Almqvist 5 (80′ Benedyczak), Pellegrino 6. Coach: Cuesta 6. ............

Igor Tudor praises ‘rare talent’ Jonathan David and admits he would gladly keep Dusan Vlahovic at Juventus, but ‘the directors make the final decision.’ ............

Debutant Jonathan David eventually turned in the Kenan Yildiz assist, with substitute Dusan Vlahovic securing a 2-0 result on another pass from the Turkish talent. ............

“I saw many positive things this evening in a very difficult match, though we weren’t expecting Parma to be so closed up,” Tudor said.

“I told the lads at half-time to keep this up, we’d score sooner or later, the important thing was not to concede. It was important to start strong, as we saw with other results that it is not to be taken for granted that you’ll win at home against a team that might not be on the same level.” ............

“Everyone who came off the bench had the right attitude. These first games are never easy, there are many unknown quantities. Parma were quite old-fashioned in their tactics, almost Catenaccio defending,” continued Tudor.

“We allowed them very little, but Bremer managed to prevent the goal with that block, and then we managed to take the lead. David has great movement in the penalty area, which is a rare talent, and is always concentrated.” ............

“Vlahovic is concentrated. He is a Juve player and does what he needs to do. He worked well in every training session, we’ll see what happens in this last week of the transfer market. We talk and will see.” ............

“As I said, Dusan is focused and he scored a quality goal this evening. If you ask me what will happen, I just don’t know. I have my thoughts and explain them, but the directors make the final decision,” replied Tudor. ............

Juventus 2 - Parma 0: Initial reaction and random observations

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-JUVENTUS-PARMA

To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect from Juventus as we hit the 2025-26 season opener on Sunday night. It’s just been a weird kind of summer, with most of the business being done on the “trying to improve the squad” front quite limited. There’s been no grand proclamations about a new project being built at the Allianz Stadium like we heard ahead of Juve’s season opener last season. ............

Juventus opened their season with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Parma. It wasn’t the same kind of dazzling and thrilling performance to open a new season when Juve beat Parma over a decade ago when the Allianz Stadium opened its doors for the first time for a Serie A matchday. But this was a positive start to a new season in which this Juventus squad is not getting the same kind of build-up and hype as it did last season under Motta. Yet with their best defender back on the field for the first time in an official game since his season-ending knee injury last October, with their young No. 10 providing both of the assists for their new No. 9 and their current No. 9 who may or may not leave this summer, and Tudor having this team looking rather well-drilled overall, Juventus began their season the same way they did a year ago. ............

Well, other than Andrea Cambiaso getting a straight red for something he knows he should never be doing.

Other than that, I gotta admit that I’m pretty well pleased with how Juventus played to begin this new season.

Was it perfect? No, of course not. You don’t rack up 25 shots like Juve did, only score two goals and deem it some sort of rousing success. ............

It took nearly an hour for the breakthrough, with Jonathan David showing us what he brings to the table with a neat little finish on Kenan Yildiz’s first assist of the night. The man everybody expects David to replace, Dusan Vlahovic, capped a barn-storming counterattack less than four minutes after coming on to cap Yildiz’s second assist of the night. ............

So basically get the ball to Yildiz and good things will happen, right?

Well maybe it’s not that so simple. But for a guy who now has 12 goal contributions in 12 games in all competitions since Tudor became Juve manager, it seems like a pretty good place to start.

Same goes for having Bremer back in the lineup after 10 months of waiting for him to make such a return to action. ............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • As I sit here and watch the pre-game anthem sound out over the speakers and the players are shown one by one, I can only think of one thing: Ah, Bremer. I’ve missed. you. I’ve missed you so much. ............
  • Bremer had nine clearances in his official return to the field after missing over 300 days of action. He also had one of the biggest moments of the night with a fantastic blocked shot early in the second half. Boy did that man prove to be just as important as ever.
  • He also got his head wrapped like Giorgio Chiellini after he banged foreheads challenging for a ball in the air. What a night for Bremer, folks.
  • In case you were wondering, the newest Canadian player in Italy has a thing for scoring in season openers. So prepare your bets for August 2026 now, folks, because JD looks like a good one for next year, too.
  • Jonathan #David has scored four goals in his last four seasonal debut games between #SerieA and Ligue 1. Furthermore, David is only the second Canadian to score in #SerieA, after Tajon Buchanan for Inter against Frosinone on May 10, 2024. Ready.#JuventusParma pic.twitter.com/fNOVOkz8ow

    — OptaPaolo (@OptaPaolo) August 24, 2025 ............
  • It’s really hard to decide which Yildiz assist was better. They were both just so good in their own kind of ways.
  • Don[’t know how many people caught it, but it sounded like every single little kid in the tunnel wanted to give Yildiz a high five and say hi. The young man is popular in Turin. ............
  • Andrea Cambiaso … brotha, what we doing?
  • Like, come on. That’s just a stupid move when you’re team is up 1-0 and facing a team that is starting to push forward more than they have been in search of a tying goal.
  • Tudor said after the game that Cambiaso will be fined — and he should. He’ll also get a couple of games worth of a suspension, thus ruling him out of the Derby d’Italia that’s right after the September international break. I guess we’re going to get Filip Kostic earlier than expected, huh? ............
  • Pierre Kalulu: not a wingback. I understand the desire to have him there for a little tactical flexibility in each phase of the game, but he’s not really somebody who works at a wingback — and I felt that way even before he was actually fielded as a wingback in this one. ............
  • I like when Juventus win. I like when Juventus get a clean sheet, too. What a nice little Sunday this ended up being.

Jonathan David admits scoring on his Juventus debut is ‘everything I hoped for’ coming to Turin, while Kenan Yildiz assures it is too early to ‘think about the Scudetto right now.’ ............

“It’s everything I hoped for. It was a professional decision,” David said, of joining the Bianconeri as a free agent this summer. ............

“The fans brought an amazing atmosphere, you could feel them pushing us, both before the goal, then after the red card,” added David.

“I am happy to score in my first game, but the most important thing is the three points.”

The striker has scored at least 15 goals in each of his last four seasons at club level, so is that the target for his debut Juventus campaign too?

“The target is to help the team as much as I can. If it’s by scoring goals, providing assists, running back, defending, I will do everything,” insisted David. ............

Kenan Yildiz was named Serie A Man of the Match, as he provided the assists for both David and Vlahovic in the 2-0 victory.

“We played a great game against a strong opponent. I am happy for the players, we did well this week and we hope to continue like this after three points,” noted the Turkish talent, who this season has started giving interviews in Italian.

“Jonathan David is a very strong player, we already saw what he could do with Lille and I am very happy to be playing alongside him.” ............

“We are at the start of the season, we have to take it one game at a time. We are not thinking about the Scudetto right now.”

“I’m ashamed” – Cambiaso apologises to Juventus as Tudor confirms incoming fine

Andrea Cambiaso sent off

Juventus wingback Andrea Cambiaso was apologetic after losing his head against Parma, resulting in his late dismissal.

The Bianconeri began their campaign on a positive note, beating the Ducali by two unanswered goals in front of their supporters at the Allianz Stadium.

The home side had the upper hand from the get-go, but in the 83rd minute, Cambiaso gave them a real scare as he left his teammates with a man down following an ill-advised reaction on Mathias Fjørtoft Løvik.

The two players were involved in skirmishes throughout the evening, but the Italy international eventually lost his cool as he reacted to a shove by elbowing his opponent in the face. The latter unsurprisingly made the most out of it, forcing the referee to show the Juventus star a straight red card. ............

Therefore, the 25-year-old apologised to everyone at Juventus for his behaviour, while insisting that this action doesn’t represent his true nature.

“I’m not a violent person: I’ve never raised my hands or done anything similar in my life,” said Cambiaso in a story posted on his Instagram account.

“I made a mistake, and I want to apologise to my teammates, the entire staff, the club, and the fans. It was a terrible act that wasn’t mine and for which I’m ashamed.

I’ve made mistakes in the past, and I’ve always learned a lot from each one: I’ll learn from this too, to become a better person. Forza Juve, Fino alla fine.” ............

“I haven’t spoken to him. He made a mistake and will be fined,” said the Croatian manager Tudor in his post-match press conference.

“He’s constantly growing mentally, and he wants to exploit his enormous potential. Players like him are rare. I see him focused and eager to grow. He’s growing well defensively, and he has unique qualities in attack. Andrea is important to us.” ............

Five things we learned from Juve’s opening-day victory over Parma

Juventus' Serbian forward #09 Dusan Vlahovic scores against Parma's Japanese goalkeeper #31 Zion Suzuki during the Italian Serie A football match between Juventus and Parma at the Allianz stadium in Turin, on August 24, 2025. (Photo by Isabella BO...

On Sunday, Juventus began their campaign on the right foot, beating their visitors Parma by two goals to nil, despite being reduced to 10 men. ............

So here are five takeaways we picked up from this Sunday’s action at the Allianz Stadium.

Bremer is a world-beater

If Juventus have one player who can be genuinely classified as world-class, then it has to be Gleison Bremer.

Against Parma, the Brazilian didn’t have an awful lot to do since the Bianconeri were in possession more often than not. Nevertheless, the returning hero stepped up to the plate when it mattered.

On a swift counter-attack, Bremer found himself alone against two Parma players. While most defenders would have charged towards the ball, the 28-year-old had to wisdom to stick by the centre-forward, as he knew Pontus Almqvist would eventually pass the ball to Mateo Pellegrino. ............

Jonathan David is relentless

Even before scoring the opener or even getting a crack at goal, Jonatan David had already made a solid impression with his tenacious approach. The Brooklyn native looked like a man possessed, as he kept chasing the ball when Parma were in possession, or roaming all around the area in search of pockets of space when his teammates had the ball. ............

Igor Tudor sending messages to the board?

Joao Mario was arguably one of the club’s best performers in pre-season. He even proved his worth once more by launching the counter-attack that culminated with Dusan Vlahovic’s goal.

Nevertheless, Tudor insisted on fielding Pierre Kalulu in an unusual role as a wingback. In the second half, he brought in Vlahovic and Nico Gonzalez, two players who have been placed on the market.

Therefore, were some of these decisions an implicit message from the manager to the management, urging Damien Comolli and Co. to bring in some reinforcement before the end of the Mercato? ............

A déjà vu from last season

Andrea Cambiaso got himself sent off for elbowing Mathias Fjørtoft Løvik in the face, thus evoking memories from last season, when Kenan Yildiz and Pierre Kalulu were involved in almost identical episodes. Curiously, all of these incidents ensued with Tudor in charge.

The Croatian certainly doesn’t condone such behaviour, and it certainly hasn’t benefited his case in any of these incidents. ............

Why Dusan Vlahovic is not a hopeless case after all

After coming off the bench, Dusan Vlahovic displayed flashes of his former self, one that is on the verge of oblivion, as he played a slick give-and-go with Kenan Yildiz before securing the result by scoring the second goal of the evening.

The Serbian sent a message to his Juventus fans (his supporters and detractors alike), insisting that he’s far from done. ............

Therefore, perhaps a reduced role is exactly what Vlahovic needs at this stage of his career, as it can help his body heal up while relieving him of the enormous psychological burden that has been placed on his broad shoulders for years.

So perhaps a super-sub role wouldn’t be too bad for the former Fiorentina star, even if it doesn’t truly fall in line with his €12m salary.

Marelli insists Kelly was not in an offside spot before David scored

Juventus' victory sparks VAR scandal in Serie A – alleged clear offside spotted before goal — Tribuna.com

Juventus’ opening goal against Parma, scored by Jonathan David, sparked controversy as Lloyd Kelly appeared to be involved from an offside position. Typically, such an occurrence would prompt the referee or VAR to disallow the goal, yet in this instance, it was allowed to stand. ............

Post-match discussions have focused on Kelly’s position and whether it should have resulted in the David goal being disallowed. While the debate gained traction among fans and pundits, its relevance has diminished, as the match concluded with Juventus officially claiming the three points.

Luca Marelli, a respected analyst, addressed the controversy, clarifying that Kelly was in a legal position during the passage of play. He stated: “Just to remove any doubt. Kelly’s position, on the play preceding the goal, was legal.” Marelli’s assessment confirms that the goal was correctly awarded and that the decision aligns with the rules of the game. ............

While debates about offside will always generate discussion, they do not alter the outcome of the match. Juventus’ 2-0 win provides a positive start to the season, highlighting the effectiveness of Yildiz’s creativity and the finishing of their forwards. For the club, the focus now shifts to building momentum and maintaining performance levels in upcoming fixtures. ............
