  1. NAPOLI - JUVENTUS 1 - 3 Paul Pogba (29') Miguel Britos (64') Martin Cáceres (69') Arturo Vidal (90'+ 4) Sunday, January 11th, 2015 - 20:45 PM San Paolo Stadium, Naples Referee: Paolo Tagliavento Napoli 1-3 Juventus: Caceres Keeps Bianconeri In Front In Their Fight For Four In A Row Jan 11, 2014 Juventus needed a goal from an unlikely source to end their 15-year San Paolo hoodoo when Martin Caceres popped up to give them a 3-1 win over Napoli in Serie A on Sunday night. He turned home a second half free kick to give his side a quick response after Miguel Britos had cancelled out a superb opener from Paul Pogba that had given the Bianconeri a 1-0 half time lead with Arturo Vidal’s late clincher coming in stoppage time after a killer break as Napoli chased the game. After an emotional tribute to Neapolitan singer/songwriter Pino Daniele after his untimely passing the week before, the teams were immediately at each other’s throats as they had been only last month in Doha in the Supercoppa Italiana. Injuries meant that goalscorers Caceres and Britos were surprise starters in defence for their respective sides but it was the men in front of them who were kept busy for much of the early sparring in a midfield set to between the light blue jerseys and their black and white counterparts. It took 18 minutes for the first chance to be created and it was a glorious one that befell Jonathan de Guzman who was played in by a clever deflected pass from Marek Hamsik, who seems to be recovering some of his magic, but he snatched at the opportunity and fired over under little pressure in front of goal. And in a tactical affair that saw a great deal of cancelling out and counter-cancelling, chances like that were not the kind of opportunities to be passed up. Ten minutes later, when Juve fashioned one of their own, they would not be so forgiving in front of goal. An accidental assist from Fernando Llorente, when he inadvertently blocked a Carlos Tevez shot, saw the ball spin up invitingly for Pogba lurking on the edge of the penalty area and he met the ball with a sweetly struck first time volley that Rafael got a hand to but could not keep out. But with Juventus looking resolute and formidable at the back, Napoli were handed only scraps before half time through a dream ball across the six yard box from Jose Callejon that nobody got a touch on and indeed it was Juventus who fashioned the best chance ahead of the small whistle when Caceres blasted straight at the goalkeeper when through on the right. The Spaniard drilled into the side-netting at the outset of the second half as his side looked to get back on terms with Juventus offering a Patrice Evra header over the top in reply, during which his bravery resulted in him being hurt with a nasty clash of heads. On 64 minutes, Napoli’s defence of their unbeaten run in the league against Juventus at home since 2000 had renewed life breathed into it when substitute Dries Mertens swung in a fine corner kick that found Britos unmarked and he met it with a first time sidefoot volley that swept past Gianluigi Buffon. That lead lasted just four minutes though when Andrea Pirlo swung in an inviting free kick that was met by another unlikely source in the box as Caceres got the vital volleyed contact to send the ball bouncing into the top corner. Manolo Gabbiadini was thrown into the fray as Rafael Benitez searched for a second equaliser, having already been on target against this season, and the Partenopei were denied just that when they had the ball in the net after Buffon fumbled a David Lopez cross after clattering into a combination of Kalidou Koulibaly and his own player only to have it ruled out for a foul: a decision that looked soft. But Juve at last made the journey back north with something more than pride or a point to show for their performance by making sure of the points in the 94th minute when they mercilessly broke downfield as Napoli piled bodies forward in search of an equaliser and a fluid move ended with Vidal thumping into the top corner. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  3. NAPOLI - JUVENTUS 1 - 3 Paul Pogba (29') Miguel Britos (64') Martin Cáceres (69') Arturo Vidal (90'+ 4) Sunday, January 11th, 2015 - 20:45 PM San Paolo Stadium, Naples Referee: Paolo Tagliavento Napoli 1-3 Juventus: Pogba volley sends visitors clear The French midfielder opened the scoring before Miguel Britos levelled the scoreline, but second-half strikes from Martin Caceres and Arturo Vidal secured all three points. Jan 11, 2014 Juventus moved three points clear at the top of the Serie A table thanks to a 3-1 victory over Napoli at the San Paolo. With nearest challengers Roma held to a 2-2 draw by fierce rivals Lazio earlier on Sunday, Massimiliano Allegri's men took full advantage at a tricky venue historically. Paul Pogba opened the scoring at the San Paolo, a venue where Juve had not won since 2000, with a stunning volley in the 29th minute that marked his fifth goal of the campaign. Napoli levelled in the 64th minute thanks to defender Miguel Britos, but any hope of the hosts completing the turnaround were dispelled by two further second-half goals from Juve. Martin Caceres - who had not featured for the Turin club since October due to a thigh injury - restored Juve's lead in the 69th minute by turning home an Andrea Pirlo free kick. A Caceres own goal was chalked off and Napoli spurned a number of late chances before Arturo Vidal slammed in a third in stoppage time to give Juve a measure of revenge for their Supercoppa Italiana defeat to Rafael Benitez's side last month. In an otherwise quiet start, Napoli wasted a gilt-edged chance to take the lead as Jonathan de Guzman blazed over the crossbar from close range after Giorgio Chiellini failed to clear. Juventus had struggled to impose themselves on the game but took the lead in magnificent fashion through Pogba. Carlos Tevez's strike rebounded off Fernando Llorente and straight to the France midfielder, who arced a superb first-time hit from the left-hand side of the area into the bottom-right corner. Juve began to dictate play following that opener and could have doubled their advantage had Caceres not hit his shot straight at Napoli goalkeeper Rafael at the end of a free-flowing move. Napoli winger Jose Callejon saw an effort deflected into the side-netting by Chiellini a minute after the restart, with the Juve centre-back then requiring lengthy treatment following a clash of heads with team-mate Patrice Evra. The visitors had rarely been threatened in the second period, but were made to pay for a defensive lapse as Britos struck. Left in acres of space, the Uruguayan defender met Dries Mertens' corner from the left with a volley beyond Gianluigi Buffon. Yet parity lasted all of five minutes, Caceres restoring Juve's advantage by scuffing home Pirlo's right-wing delivery to net his first Serie A goal since his October 2012, which also came against Napoli. Caceres almost went from hero to zero as he diverted the ball into his own net, though play was called back for a foul on Gianluigi Buffon, who denied Gonzalo Higuain from point-blank range in stoppage time. And, from the resulting corner, the visitors burst clear - Vidal converting the counter with a rifled 20-yard effort to earn a result that re-establishes the champions' command in the Scudetto race. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
