  1. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Nedved: Juve deserve Lo Scudetto May 7, 2012 There are no doubts that Juventus deserved to win the Italian Championship this season, says club legend and current director Pavel Nedved. The Czech won two Serie A titles as a player in Turin, as well as the two stripped Calciopoli Scudetti, before taking a job behind a desk. “It’s a lot worse fighting for the title as a director than it is as a player,” noted the 2003 Golden Ball winner. “You suffer a lot more in the stands than on the pitch. “I don’t think we deserved to win the Scudetto, we thoroughly deserved it,” he added. “The team played the best football and rightly triumphed. “The squad and the club work as a team and we’ve returned to victory as a team.” Juve finished the last two campaigns in seventh, but the Scudetto was always the target at the start of term. “We believed in our chances because we played good football,” continued the former midfielder. “The future? We have a team that has won the title, a side that is already strong and now we’ll see as to what needs improving.” http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  2. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Chiellini targets more glory May 7, 2012 Winning the Scudetto is only the first of four objectives for Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini this season. The centre-back celebrated the title with his teammates last night after the 2-0 win against Cagliari, but he’s underlined that the season isn’t over. “We’ll celebrate and then have a few days off,” stated the stopper. “However, we want to finish the season unbeaten, we want to win the Coppa Italia and then the European Championship with Italy.” Juve will face Atalanta in their last League game next weekend, before the Italian Cup Final against Napoli. “All of the squad did well this season,” continued the former Fiorentina man when asked about Juve’s defensive strength this term. “If we concede few goals then that is down to the work of the whole team. After years of sacrifices this victory rewards us for our efforts.” Juve have conceded just 19 goals in 37 League games so far. http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  3. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 No Scudetto revenge for Pirlo May 7, 2012 Andrea Pirlo didn’t have revenge on his mind when Juventus pipped former club Milan to the Scudetto on Sunday night. The Old Lady were crowned champions following their 2-0 win against Cagliari, while the Rossoneri lost the derby 4-2 to Inter. “There’s no revenge,” said the playmaker who left the Diavolo in the summer on a Bosman after they opted against offering him a new contract. “I left Milan because I needed new motivation. I chose Juventus and their project to win and I’ve been able to do that immediately. “I was convinced that I was still No 1 and I think I’ve shown that.” The Italian international has played a key role in the club’s Scudetto success after boss Antonio Conte changed his system to accommodate his skills. “I always played my part, I was in good shape all season and I had a desire to win,” he added. “It was a deserved Scudetto and one that we wanted from the very start. There was no revenge in my mind.” Pirlo was being written off by some at the start of the season, but the 32-year-old responded with three goals and numerous assists in his 36 League games to date. “I hope to play for a few more years yet,” he said when asked about a possible heir. “I’m still enjoying myself and I have great desire.” http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  4. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Vucinic: 'It's a dream' May 6, 2012 Mirko Vucinic scored the decisive goal for the Scudetto, but admits he can’t even remember it. “It’s like being in a dream state.” The ex-Roma striker netted in the 2-0 victory away to Cagliari that handed Juventus the title. “It’s indescribable. I went close with Roma, but to be here is extraordinary and a dream come true. I barely even remember scoring the goal! It’s like being in a dream state. “Were we a little nervous that we were losing it? A bit, but we did well to hide it! We’re good actors as well as players. “In my first year in Turin I won the Scudetto. It’s not something that happens to everyone. I tried to give my all, which sometimes I managed and others I didn’t, but always felt the Coach had faith in me. “When I was contacted to come here the Coach was crucial.” http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  5. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Del Piero: 'A special flavour' May 6, 2012 Alessandro Del Piero admits this Scudetto “has a special flavour for what happened in 2006” and his final year at Juventus. “I start every year to win. Sometimes it doesn’t happen – recently a lot – but this repays us with a very special flavour for what happened in 2006,” said the captain. “My experience here has been wonderful, with great happiness and enthusiasm, embracing my teammates tonight and in all the games whether I played or not. It was a little strange, but right now I only want to smile. “In a few days we face the Coppa Italia Final, then there will be the time and the place to talk about the rest.” Del Piero was one of the veterans who accepted the drop down into Serie B in 2006 after Calciopoli. “I remember everything from our Serie B season, which was wonderful for me and the others who experienced it, even if it started out as traumatic. This is why for me and the others like Gigi Buffon, Claudio Marchisio, etc. who were there have a very special sensation with this title. “I lived this season to the full and will celebrate it completely. The important thing is to win, so whether it is as a protagonist or not makes little difference. Of course I can say that now as a winner tonight!” Del Piero was one of the players who was able to give a fairly sober interview after the champagne. “I have a little experience in these things,” he smiled. http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  6. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Bonucci: 'Juve are back!' May 6, 2012 Leonardo Bonucci was exhilarated by the Scudetto celebrations. “This is our 30th title and Juventus are back!” The defender received a lot of criticism from the fans and media this season, but provided the assist for Mirko Vucinic in tonight’s 2-0 win over Cagliari. “It looked like an Andrea Pirlo pass, didn’t it? But it was Bonucci!” he grinned after what seemed to be quite a lot of celebratory champagne. “It’s wonderful and an astounding sensation. This is marvellous and the Scudetto was earned by real Juventini. “When everyone said we were done for, we fought and won for the fans. We conquered the Scudetto in the games that counted and also proved this 30th title was deserved. Juventus are back! “On the field Juve won 30 titles, then we can leave the rest because I am only interested in what happens on the pitch. “We are celebrating in the locker room with champagne. Winning a Scudetto at the age of 25 is wonderful. I have grown so much and have to thank Antonio Conte for the help he has given me as a player.” http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  7. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Buffon: 'Greatest day of my life' May 6, 2012 Gianluigi Buffon admits the Lecce howler left a mark, but he is celebrating this Scudetto thinking of Calciopoli and those who went into Serie B with Juventus. “It’s pointless saying that error didn’t weigh on me or leave a mark. More than anything else, I was afraid I’d be responsible for someone getting tense or afraid in the final sprint. This is why I had a very bad time the last three days. “They were the three most horrible days of my sporting existence. I was afraid I had thrown away the title with my own mistake. I felt a great sense of responsibility. “So tonight, without doubt after the World Cup, this is the greatest joy of my sporting life. Finally it can give a sense to the phrase that hard work pays off. I always thought it was 20 per cent true and 80 per cent rhetoric, but now I think it’s 80 per cent true. “I thought of many people in these moments and there are many dedications to make, first of all to Alessandro Del Piero, as finally we were able to celebrate together again. I also thought back to Camoranesi, Trezeguet and Nedved, who also deserved to be protagonists on this night. I thank my family for standing by me throughout and guiding me to the right decisions. “At the end perhaps I was the one who had the most offers, but when winning a World Cup and going down into Serie B straight away, it’s never easy. I think the only reason we did it was our love for the club, sense of belonging at Juve, respect for the fans and friendship between us. “I suffered a great deal, as six years are a long time, but it was worth the wait.” This is the first post-Calciopoli Scudetto and Juventus consider it to be their 30th, although officially it is the 28th. “The issue of how many titles we have has been going for a long time and will probably never end. I really thank the Inter lads for their efforts tonight and I sent a few messages to Javier Zanetti saying I had faith in him! He’s a good friend. “I won five titles on the field, then they put three on my CV, but there’s not much I can do about it. I can only say what I experienced and celebrated at the time.” “I can reveal something now. The day after the presentation of the Juventus Stadium I went to see some people who gravitate around us and told him we’re winning the Scudetto. I said the same to some of the Milan lads when we were on international duty and they laughed in my face. I didn’t take that well! “The truth is that in August I was really struck by the new stadium, as it gave me huge motivation and refreshed me. I realised that day I belonged to a club that had made history, so we could not afford to stay on the level of the previous two years. “I said in August I rediscovered the dream and when that happens, it’s trouble for everyone else!” http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  8. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Marotta: 'Juve's 30th Scudetto' May 6, 2012 Director general Beppe Marotta makes it perfectly clear Juventus consider this to be “our 30th Scudetto” regardless of Calciopoli. The Bianconeri are technically on 28 now after their 2-0 win over Cagliari and Milan’s derby defeat, as the 2004-05 and 2005-06 titles were stripped in the Calciopoli trial. “It is our 30th Scudetto. We have 30 on all the champagne bottles and we have won 30 titles,” said Marotta. “There was a lot of hard work from the whole club, but we absolutely deserved this. Our added value is Antonio Conte. “As a club we started a new journey last year and this season earned the tricolor.” Marotta was asked about Alessandro Del Piero, who will not have his contract renewed this summer. “Alessandro is celebrating with his teammates and I don’t want to think about anything else.” http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  9. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Allegri: 'Juve deserved it' May 6, 2012 Massimiliano Allegri complimented Juventus for their Scudetto victory and felt Milan paid a price for injuries, both overall and in the derby. “Juventus won the title, deserved to win it and it was a fascinating season with two teams on many points. Compared to last season, many more points were needed,” said the Coach after a 4-2 defeat to Inter. “Juventus had a great campaign, so did we despite all of the problems we went through from injuries to incidents. I thank the lads for the work they did this year and next term we’ll be here fighting again. “It’s difficult to say what Milan lacked compared to last year. We did make mistakes that forced a heavy price, including tonight when we were close to going 3-2 up and instead went 3-2 down. “We played pretty well tonight and did all we could to bring home the result, but this is football. Last season Samuel Eto’o missed an open goal from point-blank range in an important moment of the game and we won 3-0. “We lost Daniele Bonera after 10 minutes, Christian Abbiati had a thigh strain, we had to end the match with Mattia De Sciglio limping on a swollen ankle. It’s just one of those years. “I don’t think there is a gap from Juventus, as these teams are on the same level and it will be interesting to see how they fare next season when they have to deal with the Champions League. “We have some players reaching the end of their contracts and must evaluate with the club what we will do to reinforce the squad.” http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  10. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Conte: 'Super-extraordinary!' May 6, 2012 Antonio Conte is celebrating the “super-extraordinary” Juventus title triumph. “Now we hope to end the season unbeaten, as it’d be truly historic.” The Coach was interviewed in Trieste after the 2-0 victory over Cagliari which, coupled with Milan’s derby defeat, secured the Scudetto. “The sensations are something indescribable, fantastic, extraordinary. We are so happy to have achieved a super-extraordinary season. “I thank the players who worked so hard, the fans who put themselves behind us 100 per cent and I also tip my hat to Milan, who provided a huge challenge and are a great club. It’s even more satisfying to get the better of a side like that, as it was unexpected. “Only the slip-up with Lecce caused a little apprehension, but we are Campioni d’Italia with a round to go and unbeaten after 37 rounds. We hope to end the season unbeaten, as that would be truly historic. “It is my first Scudetto and I am truly very happy. We want to celebrate on the pitch with our fans, but it’s tricky with the chaos that is out there.” This is on paper the 28th Juventus title, but the club has made it clear they consider it to be the 30th and have placed ‘30’ on the champagne bottles. The 2004-05 and 2005-06 editions were stripped in the Calciopoli trial. http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  11. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Del Piero happy to end trophy drought with Juventus The legendary forward says that winning the Serie A title has left a special taste in his mouth, but insists that it is not the right time to discuss his future. May 6, 2012 Alessandro Del Piero has admitted that he is revelling in Juventus' Scudetto triumph after they secured their first Serie A title since 2003 on Sunday. The Old Lady's 2-0 win over Cagliari was enough to hand them the league trophy with one game left this season, as AC Milan succumbed to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Inter in the Derby della Madonnina. Del Piero reflected on their success after the contest in northern Italy, and could not hide his delight at finally ending his recent barren spell on the trophy front, with his last medal coming five years ago. "This Scudetto has a special taste after some difficult years and I'd go as far as to say that this Scudetto is even better than the one we achieved in Rimini [serie B title in 2007]," said Del Piero after the match to Sky Sport Italia. "I start every season with the hope of winning something, and sometimes it doesn't happen, but what has happened to me tonight makes up for many years [of failing to win a trophy]. "Tonight we are celebrating a championship that we all deserve and I'm glad to have contributed." Del Piero, though, refused to be drawn into discussing his future so soon after the clash in Trieste. "In 15 days we have another game that we want to win [the Coppa Italia final against Napoli], but it will be a strange ending," he noted. "On my part there is a willingness to smile and nothing else right now. There will be time to discuss my future." http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  12. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Juventus are back, says Bonucci after clinching Serie A title The Bianconeri defender is overjoyed after his team got the better of Cagliari on Sunday to win the Scudetto with one more round of games remaining in Serie A. May 6, 2012 Leonardo Bonucci has described Juventus' Serie A title success as "wonderful" after the Old Lady secured a 2-0 victory over Cagliari on Sunday to claim the Scudetto, and insists that his side are now back as a major force. Antonio Conte's team went into the match in Trieste knowing that a win would seal the championship should AC Milan draw or lose against Inter in the Derby della Madonnina at San Siro. However, the Rossoneri went down 4-2 to Inter while Juve comfortably overcame the Sardinians, and Bonucci was the first player to express his joy after the match. "It's wonderful, I feel beautiful," Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia. "We demonstrated that this 30th championship is well deserved and that Juventus are back. "On the pitch we have won 30 titles, but right now let's forget about everything because all I care about is what happens on the pitch and nothing else. "I have grown a lot as a player and I have to thank Conte for helping in my development." http://www.soccerway...regular-season/

  15. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Conte eyes Serie A dominance with Juventus: It is Scudetto number one for me The Bianconeri boss reveals that he hopes Sunday's title success is the first of many while he is at the helm in Turin, and congratulates the players and the fans for their triumph. May 6, 2012 Antonio Conte has spoken of the significance in claiming his first Serie A title as Juventus coach, after hinting that he wants to win many more during his time in charge. The Bianconeri secured their first Scudetto since 2003 with a comprehensive 2-0 win over Cagliari on Sunday, while AC Milan's 4-2 reverse to arch-rivals Inter ended the race for supremacy with one matchday left. After the match in Trieste, Conte was quick to congratulate all of his staff and the club's supporters for their impressive feat. "It is Scudetto number one for me as a coach, now we want to celebrate with the fans, even if there is too much bedlam at the moment and it is not easy for us to get out of the locker room," Conte said after the game to Sky Sport Italia. "It is something beautiful and truly amazing. It's been a very special year and one that has become extraordinary [thanks to the title win]. "Congratulations to all the fans and the players: we always believed. Only against Lecce was there a blip, but we responded well." Conte also reflected on his side's unbeaten league campaign and stated: "We are champions of Italy with a game left, and we have gone 37 games without defeat. "We now want to close the season without being defeated. "I have great respect for Milan, and we beat a great team to the title." http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  16. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Player Ratings Goal.com evaluates the performances of those involved in the game in Trieste as Antonio Conte's side clinched the Serie A title. May 6, 2012 Cagliari Michael Agazzi 6.0 - Hard to fault him for either goal as Vucinic placed the ball expertly between his legs after being horribly let down by his static back four, while he was given no chance by Canini's unintentional lob. Made a couple of decent stops, most notably from Pepe at the tail end of the first half, but, for the most part, he wasn't actually that busy. Lorenzo Ariaudo 6.0 - Struggled at times to contain Pepe and offered little going forward as a result. Davide Astori 6.0 - Reasonably sold display, managing to cope quite comfortably with the threat posed by the Juventus front two. But, like Canini, he was caught out badly for the opening goal. Francesco Pisano 6.5 - Comfortable for the most part, though he did pick up a booking for a mistimed challenge five minutes before the break. Tried to venture forward whenever he could but did so to little effect. Michele Canini 5.0 - Has to shoulder some of the blame for the dreadful defensive line which Vucinic exploited for the opening goal and although he was unlucky with the own goal, it was still poor technique on his part as he failed miserably to clear a cross from Caceres. Radja Nainggolan 7.0 - A reported Juve target for some time now but did little to endear himself to his prospective team-mates with a late tackle on Lichtsteiner which left the Swiss requiring treatment. However, his energy was impressive and it was he who led the breakaway which very nearly earned Cagliari a penalty. Daniele Conti 6.5 - Cagliari saw their fair share of possession over the course of the 90 minutes and Conti used it pretty well. What was missing, though, was just that little bit of incision which could have made this a far more interesting game. Albin Ekdal 6.5 - Really put himself about early on and drew a fair few fouls. Indeed, he really seemed to savour his tussle with Marchisio. However, he never really got on top in that regard and faded as the game wore on. Thiago Ribeiro 5.0 - May as well have not been playing, so little did he contribute to the game before being hauled off early in the second half. Indeed, the one surprise was that he lasted that long. Víctor Ibarbo 5.5 - Made no impact on the proceedings after being introduced shortly before the hour mark. Mauricio Pinilla 6.5 - Starved of any real quallity ball and was often forced to drop deep as a consequence. However, he gave Juve an almighty scare when, having picked up possession on halfway, he sped past a couple of players before unleashing a 30-metre drive which flew just wide of Buffon's post. Aside from that, though, never really got a look in. • Substitutions Andrea Cossu 7.0 - Made a real nuisance of himself after coming on in place of Thiago Ribeiro, injecting some much needed pace and energy to the Cagliari attack. Indeed, he was unlucky not to have earned a penalty - and even more unlucky to have been booked for diving - after being bundled over by Chiellini in the box. Joaquin Larrivey 5.5 - Another Cagliari attacker who offered absolutely nothing going forward. Replaced 17 minutes into the second period. Juventus Gianluigi Buffon 6.5 - A lot of eyes were on him after his clanger in midweek but, in truth, he was rarely put under any pressure. He had Pinilla's long-range effort covered and also looked comfortable under the few high balls Cagliari lobbed into the Juve area. Giorgio Chiellini 6.0 - Switched to left-back in the absence of De Ceglie and was his usual reliable self in the first half, making a crunching - but legitimate - challenge on Pinilla at one point. However, it was a difference story in the second period and he was very fortunate to avoid conceding a penalty early shortly after the restart after clumsily bundling over Cossu in the area, just moments after being booked for a poor tackle on Pinilla. Andrea Barzagli 7.0 - Rarely troubled at the back and his most significant contribution was the terrific through-ball which Vucinic stuck away to put the Bianconeri a goal to the good. A commanding display. Leonardo Bonucci 7.0 - Pretty tidy performance from the centre-half, who also distributed the ball very well at times. Didn't put a foot wrong all evening. Stephan Lichtsteiner 6.0 - Forced off midway through the first half, the Swiss had only just recovered from the effects of a terrible tackle from Nainggolan before then being left prostrate on the floor after a sickening collision with Pinilla. Fingers crossed the neck brace was purely a precautionary measure. Simone Pepe 7.0 - Earned a recall because of De Ceglie's season-ending injury and started brightly, very nearly doubling Juve's advantage only to see Agazzi pull off a decent stop. Drifted in and out of the game thereafter but went close again just before the break, first with a whipped strike from a narrow angle, and then with a blocked shot after a terrific crossfield run. Lively in possession throughout. Claudio Marchisio 7.0 - Enjoyed quite the battle with Ekdal but, as usual, also managed to get forward with great regularity and drew a save - albeit a very easy one - with a shot from distance 13 minutes in after linking well with Vucinic. Andrea Pirlo 7.0 - Tested Agazzi with a well-struck shot from distance 16 minutes in before then hitting the post - from a corner. Not at his best but oozed class from start to the finish, with the highlight of his game a wonderful piece of play which saw him bamboozle two Cagliari defenders with his sublime touch and fancy footwork. Arturo Vidal Pardo 5.5 - Threatened early on but couldn't get sufficient purchase on a cross from Matri before then picking up his customary booking for a typically reckless challenge on Ekdal. Failed to exert any real control on the game and was unsurprisingly subbed shortly after the break. Mirko Vučinić 7.5 - Opened the scoring by coolly slotting the ball between Agazzi's legs after well-timed run in behind a static Cagliari defence. Looked dangerous every time he got the ball but he was not as involved as usual and flashed a shot over the bar when well placed in the box midway through the second half. However, he remains Juve's most inspirational player and really lifted his side with a shot which drew a spectacular stop out of Agazzi just before the own goal. Alessandro Matri 5.5 - Preferred to Quagliarella at the apex of the Juve attack but despite showing plenty of endeavour, he struggled to get himself into the game and never looked like scoring. Only a matter of time before he was replaced. • Substitutions Martín Cáceres 6.0 - Thrown on after just 25 minutes following Lichtsteiner's injury-enforced withdrawal and wasted little time in getting involved, winning a corner after a one-two with Vucinic. Emanuele Giaccherini 6.0 - Came on for Vidal and showed plenty of enthusiasm without ever really threatening in an attacking sense. Marco Borriello 6.0 - Came on for the ineffective Matri and deserves some credit for putting Canini under pressure for the own goal but, in truth, he didn't really make much of an impact. http://www.soccerway...regular-season/

May 6, 2012 COMMENT By Kris Voakes | Italian Football Editor They’re back. Six years after the shame, the conjecture, the recriminations and the introspection, Juventus are champions of Italy once more. And boy, how they have taken Serie A by storm in achieving it. Everybody knew that this day would come, but it was almost as though the Bianconeri had to make an extra statement in making it happen, and tonight’s victory over Cagliari not only returns the Scudetto to Turin, but it also leaves Juve within 90 minutes of a unique 38-game unbeaten season. This isn’t just a title win, it’s a declaration. Not only have they yet to be bowed, they have gone about destroying most of the peninsula’s top-flight clubs. While the scorelines have not always reflected their dominance, they have been about as impressive as any Italian side in living memory. From their high pressing game and their near-faultless midfield base to an almost impregnable defence, the Bianconeri have had pretty much every facet covered. Even their poor conversion rate has been practically forgotten in the last 10 matches, with 26 goals helping them negotiate the potentially difficult run-in like a batter smashing home run after home run in a World Series decider. Had their shooting boots fit so snuggly during the first three-quarters of the season, the title could have been won two months ago, such has been their clear superiority over the opposition. But it is not only a glorious achievement, to the majority of calcio fans it is also a great surprise. TOP MARKS | Juve's leading scorers Alessandro Matri 10 Mirko Vucinic 9 Claudio Marchisio 9 Arturo Vidal 7 Simone Pepe 6 Fabio Quagliarella 4 Andrea Pirlo 3 At the beginning of the season the main question mark hanging over Juve was in relation to their readiness to compete for a Champions League spot. With back-to-back seventh place finishes and the reduction of Italian representation for the main event in 2012-13, there were doubts among many as to whether the Bianconeri had what it would take to make a four-place leap in the standings. But from early in the piece, it was clear that Antonio Conte’s outfit was a very different animal to the one steered off course by Ciro Ferrara, Alberto Zaccheroni and Luigi Del Neri over the previous 24 months. Instead of the fractured build-up play, there was unprecedented fluency. Where there had been pressure on their back-line, there was now a switch of emphasis to ensure that the defence was tested as rarely as possible. This was a whole new Juve, with a new stadium, a new coach and a brand new philosophy defining their new era. And while they struggled to make their superiority count at times, there was never an inability to assert their authority. It may not be the best Juventus ever, with many great versions of the past staking a claim for that crown, but that is not important right now. The fact is that the Bianconeri are back. Champions again, and convincingly so - however much Milan coach Massimilano Allegri argues otherwise, in relation to Sulley Muntari's phantom goal back in February. Rarely has a team’s supremacy been so unquestionable. http://www.soccerway...regular-season/

Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Juventus win 2011-12 Serie A title AC Milan's lost in the derby della Madonnina gives the Turin side an unassailable lead at the top of the league with one round still to play. May 6, 2012 Juventus tonight clinched their 28th Serie A title thanks to a 2-0 win over Cagliari, with AC Milan's 4-2 defeat to Inter sealing the crown. The two results combined served to send the Turin side four points clear of the Rossoneri with one game remaining. Juve picked up their first official title since 2003 thanks to goals from Mirko Vucinic and Marco Borriello in Trieste, while the Nerazzurri earned the spoils in front of 80,000 fans at San Siro. Antonio Conte's men have led the way in Serie A for much of the season, but a run of draws led to Milan gaining the advantage heading into the final 10 games. However, just as the Rossoneri slumped, the Turin side hit their best run of form all term, racking up eight successive wins before their draw with Lecce on Wednesday. They also remain unbeaten so far in the league this season, with their 37-match run the longest ever in a single Italian campaign. Their total of 38 successive league games without defeat stretches back to their defeat at Parma on May 15, 2011, since when they have won 22 games and drawn 16. While the title is the Bianconeri's first official crown in nine years, their continued fight for the return of their revoked 2004-05 and 2005-06 titles means that the club may well go ahead with plans to sew a third gold star to their shirts next season in recognition of a 30th success in total. The triumph coincides with a number of firsts, as this has been their debut season at the new Juventus Stadium, while coach Conte has never previously taken charge of a Serie A club for a full campaign. http://www.soccerway...regular-season/

Miko Vucinic put the Bianconeri in front in the sixth minute and an own goal from Michele Canini in the second half earned Antonio Conte's side the win, sparking scenes of joy on the pitch at the Stadio Nereo Rocco. Juve will now pick up the trophy at their final game of the season at the Juventus Stadium against Atalanta next weekend. Vucinic broke from a borderline offside position to reach Leonardo Bonucci's ball forward and he kept his cool to slot the ball through the legs of Michael Agazzi to put Juve in front on their first attack in the sixth minute. Andrea Pirlo tried his luck from 25 yards, but Agazzi denied him, as he did moments later as Simone Pepe had Juve's next effort in a buoyant opening from the visitors. Mauricio Pinilla came close to equalising for Cagliari with a speculative shot from 35 yards which went just inches wide of the post, but Pepe then flashed a shot across Agazzi's goal as Juve continued to look for a second goal. Cagliari tried to make a fight of it early in the second half, and with the news filtering through that Milan had taken the lead against Inter, Juve started to look a little nervous. But substitute Marco Borriello settled their nerves as he did enough to disturb Canini, who put Martin Caceres' cross into his own goal in the 74th minute, leaving his own goalkeeper no chance. Juve just played down the clock as the fans started to celebrate, and with the news arriving that Inter had turned the game around against Milan and were 4-2 ahead, even Conte and the Juve bench started to celebrate the inevitable. The final whistle was met by a pitch invasion as the estimated 15,000 Juve fans who had made the trip to Trieste started celebrating the Scudetto with one game of the season to go. http://www.soccerway...regular-season/

Juventus are the new Campioni d’Italia after a victory against Cagliari and Milan’s derby defeat mathematically secured the Scudetto! May 6, 2012 The Bianconeri had to get back on track after throwing away a result on Wednesday night, Gigi Buffon’s howler handing 10-man Lecce a 1-1 draw, and there were several banners reassuring the goalkeeper. It reduced their lead at the top of the table to just one point, but a victory here and Milan failing to win the derby would mathematically secure the title. Paolo De Ceglie was out with a thigh strain, though Simone Pepe returned from his injury. Cagliari played their last ‘home’ game of the season again at the Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste due to reconstruction work at the Sant’Elia. Alessandro Agostini sat out a ban, joined by Daniele Dessena, Rui Sampaio, Sebastian Eriksson and Moustafa El Kabir. They opted for an all-South American trio in attack. There were only a handful of Cagliari fans in the stadium, as the vast majority were cheering on the Bianconeri. However, it was not full, as for this match Cagliari raised ticket prices to the range of €30-€150. It took five minutes to break the deadlock in Trieste, as Mirko Vucinic sprung the offside trap on a Leonardo Bonucci long ball over the top and kept his cool to side-foot the angled drive past Michael Agazzi from six yards at the near post. It was an extremely tight decision. Andrea Pirlo had an attempt from long range comfortably smothered by Agazzi, while Pepe cut in from the left and stung the goalkeeper’s palms at the near post with a fierce effort. Radja Nainggolan was booked for a scything tackle on Stephan Lichtsteiner. Lichtsteiner was in the wars, as there was a horrific clash of heads with Mauricio Pinilla that left both struggling to stay conscious. The Swiss international looked to have suffered some whiplash in the incident and was stretchered off with a neckbrace, making way for Martin Caceres. Pirlo curled a corner kick directly on to the near post, clattering the upright. Lorenzo Ariaudo charged down a Caceres cross with his arm, but it was from point-blank range, so could not be considered voluntary. Nainggolan ran the risk of a second yellow card for hacking down Arturo Vidal, but was given a final warning. Pinilla threatened for Cagliari with a sudden blockbuster from distance that skimmed the post and smashed a flag that was behind the goal. Before the break Pepe flashed an angled drive across the face of goal and shaved a coat of paint off the base of the far post. Pepe also went close with a long run from his own half, but it was charged down. It started raining heavily for the second half and Andrea Cossu came on, sparking a very dangerous counter and falling under the weight of Giorgio Chiellini, but the Cagliari man was booked for simulation instead. It was a dubious incident and one open to interpretation, as Chiellini did lean a little into the much shorter Cossu. A weak Pepe effort was easily smothered and Cagliari threw on Joaquin Larrivey to bolster their attack, as Juventus were not causing them too many problems. Vucinic blasted over when he perhaps should’ve set up Emanuele Giaccherini in a stronger position. In fact, Cossu went close with an angled drive that flashed across the face of goal. Vucinic tried to wake Juventus up and his fierce curler was palmed out of the far top corner by Michael Agazzi. From that corner, Caceres had a glancing header just wide, anticipating teammate Marco Borriello. It worked, as the Bianconeri did go 2-0 up thanks to a Michele Canini own goal. Caceres whipped a cross towards the penalty spot and in an attempt to anticipate Borriello, the defender accidentally looped it into his own net. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cagliari: Agazzi; Ariaudo, Canini, Astori, Pisano; Ekdal, Conti, Nainggolan; Ibarbo (Larrivey 61), Pinilla, Thiago Ribeiro (Cossu 50) Juventus: Buffon; Lichtsteiner (Caceres 25), Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Vidal (Giaccherini 53), Pirlo, Marchisio; Pepe, Matri (Borriello 71), Vucinic Ref:Orsato http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
  22. Serie A Week 37 - 6-5-2012 (8:45 p.m.) 0 - 2 Mirko Vučinić (6′) Michele Canini (74′ - O.G.) Nereo Rocco Stadium - Trieste Referee: Daniele Orsato Attendance: 9500 Antonio Conte's triumphant side earn decisive victory to clinch Serie A title The Bianconeri ultimately cruised to the win - and indeed the Scudetto - thanks to Mirko Vucinic's early strike and an own goal from Michele Canini. May 6, 2012 Juventus clinched their 28th Scudetto with a 2-0 victory over Cagliari in Trieste on Sunday night. Going into the penultimate round of the Serie A season with a one-point advantage in hand over AC Milan, the Bianconeri turned in a professional – if uninspired display – against the Rossoblu, opening the scoring through Mirko Vucinic with just six minutes gone. They survived a penalty scare early in the second half, when Andrea Cossu went down in the area under pressure from Giorgio Chiellini, before sealing the victory – and indeed the title – courtesy of an own goal from Michele Canini and the Rossoneri’s dramatic 4-2 defeat by Inter at San Siro. Just as they had done in midweek against Lecce, Juve struck early, with Vucinic coolly slotting the ball through Michael Agazzi’s legs after latching onto Andrea Barzagli’s chip in behind the Cagliari defence. Credit must go to the Montenegrin for a well-time run and tremendously composed finish but it was too easy from a Cagliari perspective, with their entire back four all guilty of ball-watching. The Bianconeri should have built on their early advantage but, in truth, they struggled thereafter, although Simone Pepe forced Agazzi into action again with an attempted curler at the tail end of the half, before then seeing his low strike blocked after an incisive crossfield run. Luckily for Juve, their opponents, for all their possession, posed little in way of an attacking threat and the closest they came to equalising was when the isolated Mauricio Pinilla fired a 35-yard shot just wide of Gianluigi Buffon’s right-hand post after a powerful surge from deep. Cagliari looked more menacing in the second period and they very nearly earned themselves a penalty on 53 minutes after a wonderful counterattack instigated by Radja Nainggolan, but referee Daniele Orsato waved away their appeals after Cossu had been bundled over in the area by Giorgio Chiellini and booked the Rossoblu replacement for an alleged dive. Juventus looked a little nervy but Vucinic lifted them with a terrific curling effort from the edge of the area which Agazzi kept out acrobatically before Martin Caceres headed just wide. The second goal, it seemed, was coming and it promptly arrived on 74 minutes, Canini deflecting a Caceres cross up and over a helpless Agazzi in the Cagliari goal. Moments later news arrived from Milan that Inter had ahead in the derby Della Madonnina, prompting wild scenes of celebration among the Juventus faithful – but calls for calm from coach Antonio Conte. However, the former Bianconeri midfielder need not have worried as Inter added a fourth goal late on as undefeated Juventus ultimately cruised to their first legitimate Scudetto since 2003. http://www.soccerway...regular-season/
