Giuseppe Marotta Signs On As Juventus Director General

And 'Beppe' has advised Juve against splashing out to land Benitez

May 5, 2010

Giuseppe Marotta is to leave his post as chief executive of Sampdoria this summer to be appointed the new director general at Juventus.

Today's edition of the Corriere dello Sport newspaper claims that the 53-year-old signed on the dotted line to tie himself to the Old Lady on Monday.

An official announcement from the Turin giants is likely to come after the Serie A season comes to an end on May 16 as Sampdoria are still in the thick of the battle for fourth spot.

The first order of business for Marotta will be to help the club hire their new boss.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is said to be Juve's prime target, but Marotta has reportedly underlined the cons of investing around €30 million to bring in the Spaniard and appears keen on an Italian boss, namely Cesare Prandelli, Massimiliano Allegri, Roberto Mancini or Luciano Spalletti.

Giuseppe Marotta In Turin To Sign Juventus Contract

Club expected to announce move officially as Marotta pens deal...

May 19, 2010

Juventus are about to ratify Giuseppe Marotta's appointment as general director as a new dawn of deals, smiles and handshakes rises at Vinovo.

Sky Sport 24 report Marotta arrived at the club's Turin headquarters this morning to sign his contract and officially start working for the club.

He will meet commercial director Marco Fassone and current president Jean-Claude Blanc, who will hand his seat to Andrea Agnelli later when the club's board meeting sanctions the change of presidency.

Marotta will pen a three-year agreement alongside Fabio Paratici who will become head scout.

Once Agnelli swaps places with Blanc, coach Luigi Del Neri will be whisked in to sign his contract in what looks to be a busy day for Juventus.

Luciano Moggi Lauds New Juventus Leadership

The former chief likes the new Juventus rulers...

May 28, 2010

Luciano Moggi has given his seal of approval to the new Juventus leadership, hailing president Andrea Agnelli, general director Giuseppe Marotta and coach Luigi Del Neri.

Moggi feels previous top level management prohibited the club from making progress following their return to the top flight three years ago.

And he is confident the introduction of Agnelli and company mark the start of an important legacy.

"Finally we see a competent man at the helm of Juventus. Agnelli is one who understands football having followed his father, who was president of Juventus," Moggi told Nuovo Spazio Radio.

"It's a good thing because the club has appointed people who understand football."

Moggi expects to see a return to the good times as he explains what the club can expect under Del Neri.

"He is a good coach, not a phenomenon, but surely he is a good coach. As for Marotta, he understands football.

"They are intelligent people and they will do well at Juventus."

Marotta Reveals Transfer Focus,

Confirms Leonardo Bonucci Arrival

Juventus Chief Giuseppe Marotta outlines his transfer plans...

Jun 28, 2010

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta is making transfer plans public as he works hard to build an effective side.

"We are working towards having a competitive team," he told La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport.

"But we must not lose sight of the financial parameters.

"Perhaps we lacked results last year, but the hard work continues. Juventus have the fundamentals to do well and return to winning ways."

He also confirmed the deal for Leonardo Bonucci was not a simple one on the day the Bari stopper arrives in Turin for his medical.

"It was not easy to convince Bari and Genoa to let us have Bonucci. We are satisfied because the defender fits the bill," he said.

But signing Milos Krasic from CSKA Moscow seems unlikely after negotiations broke down.

"We made our offer to CSKA Moscow and they did not accept it. Then we both went our own ways," concluded the Juve chief.

Marotta & Del Neri Promise A Winning Juventus

Director and coach sound optimistic ahead of tomorrow's ritiro...

Jul 2, 2010

Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta and coach Luigi Del Neri have made their pitch for next season as they work to bring steady success.

The Bianconeri launched their new Nike shirts for the 2010-11 season at Vinovo, and both men are confident they can baptise the new campaign with a flourish of growth.

"I hope that my Juventus is nice and a winning team, both on and off the pitch," Del Neri told the press.

"We need to be ready by July 29. I will treat everyone the same because in football players can come and go."

And Del Neri gave an indication of how the squad will take shape.

"Our attack is already complete with [David] Trezeguet, Amauri, [Vincenzo] Iaquinta, [Allessandro] Del Piero and Diego," he added.

"We are tough in midfielder. In terms of quality we are tranquil in midfield and up front.

"Marotta is working for the wings and in defence."

Marotta underscored his hopes to deliver a squad with an Italian base, and he wasn't talking pizza.

"We want to reinforce our Italian brand through serious politics on youth players, and as well as this the team wants to win instantly," said the director.

"I am optimistic for the contruction of the new team. We want to make it stronger, but respecting club guidelines."

Juventus Buys Are Not Scudetto Material - Moggi

Luciano Moggi not impressed with Juve transfers

Jul 9, 2010

Former Juventus transfer director Luciano Moggi has become highly sceptical over the club's summer buys, claming they are not "Scudetto" players.

Despite his ban from Calcio, Moggi has become a notable commentator on the wheeling and dealing, and he has analysed Juve's market thus far.

His insight on Juve was grey and he feels the club have far to go before they can tackle the Scudetto issues, claiming better players need to come to the fore if Juve are to leap towards the title.

"The buys that Giuseppe Marotta has made so far don't seem like they are Scudetto calibre," he wrote in his Tuttomercatoweb.com column.

"Jorge Martinez for example doesn't allow them to make a significant step up in quality.

"The same goes for Pepe and Storari. I think Leonardo Bonucci is the only player with prospects and he is a Juve type player.

"A good signing would be Milos Krasic, but he is no Pavel Nedved."

Diego Stays, Sebastian Giovinco Goes, No Move

For Barcelona's Rafael Marquez - Giuseppe Marotta

Juventus general director offers his view on Juventus' transfer scene...

Jul 29, 2010

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has said there is no real need to tamper with the transfer market as he gives an overview of the club's plans.

The chief stressed Diego will not be leaving, but conceded Sebastian Giovinco is likely to move towards Parma.

"Diego will stay with us," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"As for Giovinco, there are many teams interested in him, and we want him to mature by playing regular football.

"Parma? They are ready to invest in him by taking him on a co-ownership deal."

Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini and Rafael Marquez of Barcelona have been tipped as potentinal arrivals, but Marotta was robust in handling the speculation.

"We have no intention to disturb Sampdoria and I don't think there are other Samp players that are on our agenda," he said.

"Marquez? I deny I have made offers for Marquez completely."

Juventus general director suggests Juventus cannot get past financial obstacles for Wolfsburg's Dzeko...

Jul 30, 2010

Juventus' talks for Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko have been blown off course and the winds of change don't appear to be changing direction as Giuseppe Marotta dashes hopes of a resolution.

Despite a report in Friday's edition of Tuttosport claiming a deal for Dzeko was still alive, Marotta has confirmed the club will be pulling out of negotiations as the Germans are in no mood to soften their stance on a

The Bosnian striker could be on his way to Italy after all...

Aug 9, 2010

According to a report on Sky Sport Italia, Wolfsburg's technical director Dieter Hoeness is currently holding talks with Juventus' sporting dorector Giuseppe Marotta at Galileo Ferraris over the transfer of Bosnian international Edin Dzeko.

Juventus have been after the highly rated attacker for quite a while now, but they appeared to have missed out on Dzeko's services when Wolfsburg declared that the prolific hitman was going nowhere this summer.

The Bianconeri are not done yet in the transfer market...

Aug 19, 2010

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta has said that they need to recruit before the summer transfer window closes.

The Bianconeri are reinforcing their squad ahead of the start of the new Serie A season later this month in order to launch a Scudetto challenge, and Moratta has identified the need for a winger.

Marotta admits he intends to sign a winger before the end of the transfer window on August 31.

Giuseppe Marotta: The Transfer Market Has Not Yet Closed

Juventus director is hinting at more arrivals

Aug 22, 2010

Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta insists that the Bianconeri's transfer market spending for this summer may not have ended.

Having already brought in Milos Krasic, Davide Lanzafame, Leonardo Bonucci, Jorge Martinez, Simone Pepe, Marco Motta and Marco Storari so far, the director says he will be seeking another defender and midfielder.

"We still need another player, and we hope to sign him in the last days of the transfer season," Marotta revealed to Eurosport. "We are still looking for a defender and a midfielder.

"As for Aquilani? We cannot speak about anything official as of yet, even if the transfer will be completed in the next few days."

Marotta also explained the saga surrounding playmaker Diego, and whether the Brazilian is set to leave the Bianconeri.

"No request has arrived for him, and I do not believe he will leave," he said. "In any case, the transfer market closes August 31, and anything can happen.

"We are very pleased with the work we have done so far," concluded Marotta.

Giuseppe Marotta Explains Last-Minute Transfer Decisions

Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has revealed why the Bianconeri failed to sign Marco Borriello,

as well as why Leandro Rinaudo was brought in...

Sep 1, 2010

Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has explained the motives behind several of the last-minute Bianconeri signings.

The side were able to capture Leandro Rinaudo on a season-long loan from Napoli, and knocked back Marco Borriello, who joined Roma.

"For Borriello, it was only an opportunity to have him on a temporary basis," Marotta revealed to Eurosport. "We did not and could not do more than this, so we decided to pull out of talks.

"As for Rinaudo, we needed a player in that position, and we got him. The accord with Napoli was swift.

"It was a hard transfer market season, but for us, it is about rejuvenation, and we are pleased. Not every single dream in terms of who we want does come true," summed up Marotta.

Giuseppe Marotta In Backlash Against Transfer Market Critics

Juventus director claims Juventus' transfer market was tiptop after critics wielded the axe against his choices.

Sep 2, 2010

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has defended his handy work on the transfer market, insisting it was copious and admirable as he responds to the critics that have questioned business.

Perhaps Juve's biggest critic was former player Diego, now of Wolfsburg, who slammed the club's movements and claimed Marotta's work would lead to failure.

However, the Italian is sticking firmly behind his movements and explained why Juve will benefit from his decisions.

"This is not about losing operations. We maintained control over young players and we brought in some interesting stars," he told Tuttosport.

"The objective was to evaluate and bring out a champion from this group. We acquired 11 players, basically a team, four of those are all involved with their national teams.

"The aim was to renew the team with talent and experience."

Juventus were blamed for not doing enough to bring Edin Dzeko, but Marotta has blamed the failure on German resistance.

"Dzeko? He could have made the difference and we did all we could to bring him, but Dieter Hoeness didn't want to know.

"We tried to land him in the Diego deal, but the Germans didn't want to know. As for Diego, he is a great champion, but doesn't fit into our 4-4-2."

Juventus' Transfer Market Was Good - Giuseppe Marotta

Giuseppe Marotta has defended the club's transfer activity.

Sep 7, 2010

Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta feels the club couldn't have done more on the transfer market.

The Bianconeri's transfer campaign has come under scrutiny from the critics, but Marotta has jumped in once again to defend the club.

He insists the club were right to reduce costs and focus on youth.

"We were able to get all the objectives we had designed. Any strange transfers? No. Things were reported inaccurately and we left it at that," Marotta told the press.

"Juventus are a great club that is going through a renewal phase that is a slow process compared to a complete revolution.

"We have reduced the average age of the team from an economical point of view. We did everything with contained costs."

Giuseppe Marotta Sceptical Over Scudetto Chances

Juventus General Director has played down Scudetto talk, stating the objective is a top-four finish.

Sep 13, 2010

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has said it will take time for the team to show their full potency as he strikes a balancing act on what they can achieve this season.

The Bianconeri have started the campaign with a struggle, so far recording a defeat to Bari and Sunday's 3-3 draw against Sampdoria.

Coach Luigi Del Neri says the Scudetto is unlikely - a notion that is partly shared by Marotta.

"It will take time and patience because you cannot assemble a team in just two months. But we have the right mentality," Marotta told Tuttosport.

"We have to avoid conceding goals, but scoring is a sign that we are doing something right. Six players who featured against Sampdoria are new and so we are still in a development phase.

"It's too early to say that we are not a Scudetto team, but we must not take the fans for a ride. Our objective is the Champions League place. To make predictions on the league we need another five to seven weeks. We are obliged to reach the Champions League."

Juventus Have Always Won Fairly - Giuseppe Marotta

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta responds to Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini

Sep 20, 2010

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has responded to Maurizio Zamparini, who claimed "Inter are the new Juventus".

Zamparini's rant came in the wake of his club Palermo's 2-1 loss to Inter on Sunday.

He said Inter had become the new Juve for the power and influence they have been enjoying.

However, Marotta has wasted no time in striking back as he defends the club from the Rosanero president's accusations.

"In relation to power being attributed to Juventus in the past from some director, I only know that Juventus have always won fairly in their history," Marotta told Itasportpress.it.

Talk quickly moved onto season objectives though as Marotta did not want to elaborate too much on what Zamparini had said.

"Our objective is to remain in the top half of the table and we are relying on the group we have to win," he said.

Marotta: Buffon Won't Join Manchester United;

Edin Dzeko Still Possible

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has said

Gianluigi Buffon will not join Manchester United.

Oct 8, 2010

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has summed up plans for the transfer market - Gianluigi Buffon remains anchored, but a move for Edin Dzeko has not run aground.

Buffon has been linked with Manchester United as voices in the Premier League suggested Edwin van der Sar would be retiring at the end of term.

Agent Silvano Martina responded to those reports on Thursday when he said there was no chance of Buffon leaving Juve.

And Marotta has added credibility to that belief by insisting the Italian goalkeeper will not be leaving the club.

"Manchester? Buffon is a Juventus player. I deny that there have been talks with United. Buffon plays for Juventus," Marotta told Tuttosport.

Juventus are looking to bid for new players in January, and Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko is a name that has not been crossed off the list.

"Intervening doesn't mean spending money, but taking advanatges of the opportunities," he added.

"If there is a chance to better this group then we will react.

"Dzeko? He is not a dream that has ended, but postponed. Our attack is a winning one as it is though."

Giuseppe Marotta Confirms January Transfer Plans

Juventus are looking to bolster their squad in January as Tottenham's Gareth Bale is linked with the club.

Oct 21, 2010

Juventus director general Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed the club will be watching for chances to bolster their squad in January.

However, major moves will have to wait until the summer as Tuttomercatoweb.com claims the Old Lady are following Gareth Bale of Tottenham.

"Yes, we will do something in January, but for big investments we will wait until June. For now we are looking for good opportunities," he told La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport.

"I think we can do discreet deals as there will be players available."

The Bianconeri were tipped to sign Bojan Krkic of Barcelona, but that is unlikely to bear any fruit.

"A striker? We are not on Krkic."

On Tuesday former Juventus playmaker Diego said Wolfsburg hitman Edin Dzeko would be arriving in the summer.

Juventus Are Not Interested In Cassano - Giuseppe Marotta

Juventus are not chasing Sampdoria's Antonio Cassano

Oct 30, 2010

Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta has distanced the club from rumours linking them with Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano.

Speculative reports suggested Juventus were behind Cassano's bust-up with Sampdoria after the club applied to have his contract terminated by the Lega Serie A.

But Marotta has emphasised the Italian international does not feature in the Old Lady's plans.

"I can say that Juventus are not behind this. Juventus have no intention of being disloyal towards Sampdoria," he told Mediaset.

"And Cassano is not part of our project. Therefore the voices are without foundation."

Giuseppe Marotta Hints Juventus Will Sign Aquilani & Quagliarella

Juventus sporting director has hinted the Bianconeri will sign

Alberto Aquilani and Fabio Quagliarella from loan deals.

Nov 16, 2010

Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has hinted the club will sign both Alberto Aquilani and Fabio Quagliarella once their season-long loan deals expire.

Marotta also affirmed the six-point gap between the Bianconeri and Milan can be closed.

"Aquilani and Quagliarella are on loan, and are doing very well," Marotta told Corriere Dello Sport. "They are showing all the right things for us to buy their playing contracts.

"This season, winning something for Juventus means a lot. Hopefully, we can toast to something important.

"I am not worried about the points gap between the two sides, because as we saw last season, Roma demonstrated that closing a gap is not impossible. Even Udinese has shown this season that climbing the ladder is possible."

Marotta also believes "Lazio is a candidate to win the Scudetto."

Aquilani joined the club from Liverpool and Quagliarella from Napoli.
