Hellas Verona striker unlikely to feature against Juventus

Sep 21, 2013

Hellas Verona’s veteran striker Luca Toni is unlikely to play against Juve on Sunday but he insists that Gialloblu coach Andrea Mandorlini will know how to motivate the players.

http://markting10.nl/

The 36-year-old former Italian international is suffering from an inflammation of the tendon but he will still make the trip and say hello to some former Juventus and Italy teammates.

“Mandorlini will wind us up a lot for this match. He shouts at us so loudly that I hear him shout from far distances on the pitch,” Toni said to Tuttosport.

“I don’t think I’ll make it on the pitch. I’ll need a miracle. My unavailability will hurt because facing Juventus is always stimulating and beautiful.

“I’ll still go to the Juventus Stadium though, I have a lot of people to say hello to.

“It burns me a lot but when I return I want to score against Buffon with a lob.”

Scouting Report: Hellas Verona – Serie A, Round 4

Sep 21, 2013

Club Name: Hellas Verona FC
Head Coach: Andrea Mandorlini
Formation: 4-3-3 (4-5-1)
Style of Play: Deep Defending
Recent Form: W (2 – 1, Milan) L (3 – 0, Roma) W (2 – 0, Sassuolo)
Strengths: Solid counter-attacking down the right hand side which could cause Juventus’ weaker wing a few problems.
Weaknesses: No real quality all over the pitch, defensive shape can be stretched very easily via quick tempo attacks.

http://markting10.nl/

Roma 3-0 Verona, September 1 2013

Roma vs Verona was a battle of two very different variants of the 4-3-3. Roma’s 4-3-3 represented the more expansive of the two, with their full backs pushing high up the pitch, along with the wingers tucking inside to make inside forwards. Verona’s on the other hand was a much more rigid system which played out as a deep 4-1-4-1 or 4-5-1 without the ball.

Throughout the opening stages of the match, Verona looked to sit deep and absorb as much of Roma’s pressure as they could. The space between the lines was very little and there was a decent shape to the back four, with the gaps between the centre backs and full backs appropriate to what you would expect from such defensive shape.

Roma’s energy during the first 10 minutes of the match was excellent and it really forced Verona back, leading them to almost be defending from their own penalty area. The energy and enthusiasm Roma displayed created a handful of chances which for a better finish, would have resulted in an early goal. Juventus with a high intensity game would have the chance to do something similar and an early goal is always excellent to knock the morale of a newly promoted side and instil disbelief in their own ability.

Given Verona’s tendency to drop off and allow Roma time on the ball, Luca Toni – the lone frontman’s – lack of mobility meant Roma’s defenders had plenty of space to start attacks from the back, with both central defenders under little pressure to play the ball in haste. Juventus’ back three would easily out number the lone striker but potentially would have one man, too many, where an additional player would be more at use in a more advanced area of the pitch.

When Verona were able to start an attack, they’d begin slow, moving the ball steadily across the back line. Then once the transition from defence to the midfield was made, they’d look to be more incisive with their passes and quicker with their tempo, with plenty of runners and movement off the ball. Whilst their quality was lacking, they did create a few chances of their own via a quick switch of play, then attacking the Roma wings, where their full backs had occasionally left open space.

Rafael Martinho – the left footed Brazilian winger – was Verona’s biggest threat going forward. When Verona were able to break forward and play the ball into the left winger’s feet, the 25 year old had the confidence to attempt to take on the ageing legs of Maicon and had a relative success against his marker. Beating his man and putting in a decent cross on a number of occasions during the first half.

Despite their danger man playing from the left hand side, a lot of Verona’s forward moves built up from the right. Romulo, the right back – who has since been moved into midfield to excellent effect vs Sassuolo – started the majority of attacks down his side, playing quick direct passes into the right channel for the creative ex-Palermo and Genoa midfielder Bosko Jankovic on the wing, who was given the reigns to dictate his team’s attack. Juventus’ left side is certainly their weaker wing at present without the defensive cover from Claudio Marchisio and given Verona’s nature to attack directly down this wing, the appropriate cover may need to be accounted for.

Roma’s first goal came courtesy of Verona over committing on an attack and then getting overrun themselves on a counter attack. The inability to clear the ball to safety when the first phase of Roma’s attack broke down allowed Roma to quickly transition the ball wide to Maicon who took advantage of a lack of marker, scoring via a large deflection. Ultimately it was Martinho the left winger who was at fault, as his laziness to bust a gut to get back and track the Right Back’s run proved costly.

It was this goal which resulted in a common feature of the second half. Martinho’s stamina levels weren’t at the level they needed to be and having expended a large amount of energy in the first half running at Maicon, he was unable to perform the job of running up to the support his side’s attacks and then back to stop Roma from breaking themselves. Where in the first half he was tucked in deep next to his central midfielders, in the second half he was often found standing out of position, neither deep enough to provide a solid defensive shape, nor high enough to discourage Maicon from raiding forward.

Both the following two goals from Roma were golazos but, it was the inability to quickly recover into a solid defensive shape after counter attacks from Verona had broken down which proved their undoing. Backpeddling and off balance, nobody closed down either Pjanic nor Ljajic to try and prevent each individual’s wonder strike.

Dangerman: Romulo

The Brazilian Right back-cum-centre midfielder has started the season off in excellent fashion for the newly promoted Hellas Verona. Despite playing in the back four in Verona’s heavy defeat to Roma, Romulo’s contribution in all three of their opening matches has been of positivity, especially against Milan and Sassuolo, where he was played in a right centre midfielder role. With an assist on the opening night shock against Milan and then a goal against Sassuolo in the previous round of fixtures, Romulo has been one of Verona’s early season stars.

For a team who don’t get much opportunity to attack, having a player who can attack at tempo, both on and off the ball is a must and Romulo has been that man for the Gialloblu, with his bombarding runs on the counter being a strong feature of Verona’s attacking play. His link-up with Bosko Jankovic has been good and provides his side with the opportunity to outnumber and overlap the opposition’s left side.

Given Juventus’ struggles on the left side of the park in the opening weeks of the season since Claudio Marchisio’s injury. Asamoah and Chiellini need to ensure they focus on the threat Verona could pose down their right hand side. Be it Romulo starts at RB, or at CM, he’s going to look to break quickly into the space Juventus’ leave behind on a Verona counter-attack and it’s important Paul Pogba looks to track his runs to stifle any sort of influence the Brazilian could pose.

Juventus v Hellas Verona –
Team News, Tactics, Lineups And Prediction

Sep 22, 2013

Juventus are one of the five sides left in Serie A that are yet to taste defeat. Two wins on the trot were followed by two stalemates. Inter and Copenhagen may reflect similar outcomes both the performances were a contrast. At the San Siro, Inter and Juventus canceled each other out in a game where a win for any side would have been harsh on the other. These were two teams that fought endlessly and produced a fair result. Against Copenhagen, it was one way traffic, for the most part. Juventus have their wayward finishing to blame as they have just one goal to show for their 27 shots.

http://markting10.nl/

For Hellas Verona, it’s been a commendable start to their Serie A campaign. A glance at the league standings and you would find them just one point off their illustrious opponents. It’s early days, of course, and it’s a marathon not a sprint yet you can’t help but get the feeling that they could be the surprise package of this season.

Team News and Tactical Brief

JUVENTUS

‘Frustration’ is the word that comes to mind when you look back at Juve’s game against Copenhagen. It was a game that they could have and should have won but for the heroics and heroics probably falls short of the standard of performance put in by Copenhagen’s keeper, Johan Wiland. But this frustration can act as a stimulant and Hellas Verona could be on the receiving end.

Conte’s formation remains the same 3-5-2 that is his favorite. The manager spoke about the importance of rotation and keeping the team fresh as they fight on three fronts. With depth that can justify rotation, Juventus could name a starting eleven that may see a few regulars rested. Storari will start in goal, Conte confirmed while Vucinic and Barzagli should return after they played no part in the Champions League.

But the best news from Conte’s press conference was the return of Claudio Marchisio. The tireless midfielder has been out for a few weeks and has always been one of Juventus’ most valuable assets. With Verona expected to shut shop, Juventus could find themselves in a situation similar to that against Copenhagen. This time, of course, they’ll want to be a bit more clinical and make their chances count.

Pepe, Rubinho and Caceres will sit this one out for Juventus.

Possible Starting XI (3-5-2): Storari; Barzagli, Bonucci, Ogbonna; Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Pogba, Asamoah; Tevez, Vucinic

Juve-Hellas.jpg

HELLAS VERONA

Six points from a possible nine, Verona manager, Andrea Mandorlini will be pleased with his side’s beginning to life in Serie A. They might be new comers but their work in the transfer market ensured that they recruited players with Serie A experience. That, along with a few of their own talents is considered enough for the Gialloblu to retain their top flight status. As things stand, no one could argue against that line of thinking.

After stunningly claiming the scalp of Milan on opening night, Verona succumbed to a 3-0 loss to a rampant Roma side. Following which, they made light work of fellow promoted team, Sassuolo. But, they now face their sternest test at the Juventus Stadium. They’ll have to do so without their captain, Domenico Maietta, who was forced to go off injured against Sassuolo. Raphael Martinho hasn’t made the trip to Turin as well. The good news, though, is the inclusion of ex-Juve man, Luca Toni, in the Verona squad. It’s still unclear whether the burly striker will start the game but he might just play a part.

Mandorlini will stick with his 4-3-3 system. A system based up on defensive organization and that should be the approach the boss will employ. Tight in midfield with advanced wingers dropping back to halt Juve’s blitzing wing-backs. Much of their play circles around the much heralded Italy u21 International, Jorginho. Already under the watch of top clubs throughout the peninsula, Jorginho will win over plenty of admirers if he manages to outclass a certain Andrea Pirlo.

Possible Starting XI (4-3-3): Rafael; Cacciatore, Moras, Bianchetti, Agostini; Romulo, Jorginho, Hallfredsson; Jankovic, Cacia, Gomez

Player To Watch Out For

Paul Pogba (Juventus)

JuventusTouted as a future superstar, they way it’s panning out right now, Pogba is already playing like one. A player with the potential and the ambition to be the best, Pogba’s lethal range coupled with pure physical power make him a fierce opponent to deal with. Against Verona, who are certain to be satisfied with getting players behind the ball, it might just take another Pogba special to secure the three points for Juventus.

Prediction

Juventus 2-0 Hellas Verona

Verona could be on the end of a Juventus backlash as the Champions look to shrug off their midweek disappointment. The travelers will feel the absence of a few important players; add in the quality of the opposition and this result points towards a Juventus victory.

Juventus vs Hellas Verona,
preview: Visitors unlikely to shock

Verona have a good squad and did well in the transfer market, but that
will hardly be enough to take anything home against the best team in Italy.

Sep 22, 2013

Juventus disappointed in Denmark, opening their Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Copenhagen. Between that slip and amid the constant talk about Fernando Llorente being ignored by Antonio Conte, it hasn't been the easiest few days for Juve -- but that's hardly going to destabilize the champions. They have a relatively easy job this weekend against Hellas Verona, who, with all due respect, aren't a team that should create a lot of problems for the bianconeri.

http://markting10.nl/

Juve have seven points from three Serie A matches, beating Sampdoria away 1-0 before thrashing Lazio at home 4-1. Their only draw came in the last round, against Inter Milan in the Derby d'Italia. The bianconeri have started the season more or less as expected. Buying Carlos Tevez proved to be a very good piece of business, and Paul Pogba is showing more and more moments of brilliance. A small issue is the fact that Conte prefers every other striker to Llorente, who appears to be completely out of shape but that seems to be more of an issue for various papers in Italy, rather than for Conte himself. Of greater importance is the fact that Andrea Pirlo isn't his usual magnificent self this season.

Conte is likely to field almost the same team as he did in most of the games this season, with Mirko Vucinic keeping Tevez company in the attack. The only change will be in goal, with the Juve coach announcing that Marco Storari will be taking Gianluigi Buffon's place between the posts, due to the captain's fatigue.

Verona are likely thrilled with their season so far, having won two games, one of which against a direct rival in the relegation battle, Sassuolo. The other victory was a 2-1 win over AC Milan in the first round, played in front of a thrilled Verona crowd. Their only loss came against an in-form Roma, who put three goals past the newcomers. The gialloblu seem to have enough quality to stay away from relegation zone this season, but getting at least a point at the Juventus Stadium isn't easy, even for the best European teams.

Coach Andrea Mandorlini faces a few selection problems. It is doubtful whether Luca Toni, Martinho, captain Domenico Maietta and defender Michelangelo Albertazzi will be able to play, which only makes Verona's job even harder.

Juventus injuries and suspensions:

Simone Pepe, Martin Caceres (injuried)

Hellas Verona injuries and suspensions:

Luca Toni, Martinho, Domenico Maietta, Michelangelo Albertazzi, Daniele Ragatzu (in doubt)

Projected line ups

Juventus (3-5-2): Storari, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Lichtsteiner, Asamoah, Vidal, Pirlo, Pogba, Vucinic, Tevez

Hellas Verona (4-3-3): Rafael, Cacciatore, Moras, Bianchetti, Agostini, Romulo, Jorginho, Hallfredson, Gomez, Cacia, Jankovic

Mandorlini: 'Verona like Copenhagen'

Sep 22, 2013

Andrea Mandorlini warns Hellas Verona will “try to imitate Copenhagen” at the Juventus Stadium today.

http://markting10.nl/

It kicks off in Turin at 15.00.

“We made many sacrifices to reach this important challenge,” said the Coach of the newly-promoted club.

“We are very happy, as we’re in a good position in the table and will aim to pick up points in Turin.”

Verona have already caused an upset this season with their 2-1 victory over Milan and also beat Sassuolo.

Luca Toni and Michelangelo Albertazzi are back in the side after injury, though Domenico Maietta and Raphael Martinho are sidelined.

Meanwhile, Juve are fresh from Tuesday’s disappointing 1-1 Champions League draw with FC Copenhagen.

“As far as we are concerned, we have all due respect for an historic and important club like Juventus. However, in football nothing can be taken for granted and Juve would do well to remember that today.

“We will do everything we can to bring home a positive result, even if that means we’ll try to imitate Copenhagen...”

Line-ups: Juventus-Verona

Sep 22, 2013

Juventus rotate their squad against Hellas Verona, giving Fernando Llorente his first Serie A start.

http://markting10.nl/

Antonio Conte announced changes after their two consecutive draws against Inter and FC Copenhagen, including a rest for Gianluigi Buffon and Giorgio Chiellini.

The most important new face was that of ex-Athletic Bilbao star Llorente, who has been notably absent so far in Juve’s season.

He partners Carlos Tevez, completing what many assumed would be the first choice front two this term.

Claudio Marchisio is on the bench for the first time since limping off during the Italian Super Cup in August, but Simone Pepe and Martin Caceres are sidelined.

Luca Toni returns from an ankle injury for Hellas Verona, albeit on the bench, who already caused an upset this season by beating Milan.

Domenico Maietta and Raphael Martinho are on the treatment table.

JUVENTUS: Storari; Barzagli, Bonucci, Ogbonna; Isla, Vidal, Pirlo, Pogba, Asamoah; Tevez, Llorente

Llorente fires Bianconeri to victory

The Spain striker silenced the critics with his match-winning strike
after Carlos Tevez had cancelled out Fabrizio Cacciatore's opener.

Sep 22, 2013

Fernando Llorente scored on his first start for Juventus as a 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona got them back to winnings ways in Serie A.

http://markting10.nl/

Despite dominating the early exchanges, the hosts fell behind in the 36th minute as Fabrizio Cacciatore knocked home from close range, but that goal served as a catalyst for the champions to launch a comeback.

Carlos Tevez, who had squandered an earlier chance, equalised in style five minutes before the break and then Llorente nodded in right at the end of the first period.

That proved to be enough to give Juve the points after draws against Inter and Copenhagen in the last week.

Following their Champions League exploits in Denmark on Tuesday, coach Antonio Conte shook things up by making five changes.

Marco Storari, Andrea Barzagli, Mauricio Isla, Kwadwo Asamoah and Llorente all came into the starting XI, replacing Gianluigi Buffon, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Giorgio Chiellini, Federico Peluso and Fabio Quagliarella.

Verona came into the game off the back of a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo, with three changes from that side as Domenico Maietta, Raphael Martinho and Juan Ignacio Gomez had their respective places taken by Alejandro Gonzalez, Matteo Bianchetti and Massimo Donati.

Juventus seized control early on against the Serie A new boys, but they struggled to create clear-cut chances during the first half hour.

Tevez wasted a good chance 30 minutes in, and it was not long before Hellas made them pay for their profligacy as they capitalised from a corner when Cacciatore tapped in from close range.

Tevez made amends before the break, however. Leonardo Bonucci played an impressive throughball into the right side of the area, and the Argentinian fired a shot past Rafael into the far corner.

He almost added another too when he hit the post from distance, but Conte’s side did go into the break ahead as Llorente headed in Arturo Vidal’s cross from the right on the stroke of half-time.

The visitors started the second half positively and Jorginho had a chance to equalise, only for the excellent Bonucci to poke the ball away with a last-ditch tackle.

Juventus did not test Rafael again until just before the hour mark when Paul Pogba twice tried his luck from distance, and although the goalkeeper almost made a mess of both efforts, he was not beaten.

Frenchman Pogba seemed determined to score and he once again went for goal from outside of the area in the 66th minute, but his curling effort flew just over the crossbar.

Conte's side continued to press for late goals, but Verona remained solid at the back - although a late comeback never appeared likely.

Wk4: Llorente revives Juve

Fernando Llorente scored his debut Juventus goal
to complete their comeback, beating Hellas Verona 2-1.

Sep 22, 2013

The Bianconeri had to get back on track after two consecutive 1-1 draws against Inter and FC Copenhagen. Antonio Conte rotated his squad, resting Gigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini and Mirko Vucinic in favour of Marco Storari, Angelo Ogbonna and Fernando Llorente, getting his first start in a Juventus jersey. Claudio Marchisio was on the bench after a knee injury during the Italian Super Cup in August, though Simone Pepe and Martin Caceres missed out. Verona welcomed back Luca Toni on to the bench from an ankle problem, though Domenico Maietta and Raphael Martinho were injured.

http://markting10.nl/

Juve poured forward, but Verona had a good chance when Daniele Cacia latched on to a long ball and Andrea Barzagli performed a crucial block.

Rafael had his palms stung by a fierce Carlos Tevez strike and in trying to stop Llorente get the rebound he ended up with a cut under his chin.

Arturo Vidal’s header was plucked out from under the bar and when Verona went on the counter-attack Juve were fortunate Jorginho let the ball run through, thinking there was a teammate behind him.

The Bianconeri also threatened as Tevez played a neat one-two with Vidal before Rafael smothered at his feet.

It was incredibly Verona who took the lead at the Juventus Stadium. A corner was nodded down by Moras to find Fabrizio Cacciatore totally unmarked at the base of the back post to tap in.

Juventus thought they had equalised three minutes later, but an acrobatic Cacia goalline clearance kept out Paul Pogba.

It was only a warning, as moments afterwards Tevez sprung the offside trap on a Leo Bonucci through ball and smashed his finish across Rafael in off the far post.

Tevez could not believe he hadn’t scored another in first half stoppages. His shot flew past Rafael to hit the upright, roll all the way along the line, bounce off the other post and into the goalkeeper’s grateful arms.

Instead, it was Llorente who broke his duck in all competition for Juventus. The Spaniard got round his marker Moras to get the header on Vidal’s cross from 10 yards.

It was still wide open, as Bonucci’s lunging tackle was well-timed but risky as Jorginho was ready to pull the trigger. Rafael smothered a Pogba attempt and then the goalkeeper flew to palm away a trademark Andrea Pirlo free kick.

Pogba went even closer, as his curling effort from distance left Rafael rooted to the spot, but landed on the crossbar.

There was a standing ovation as Claudio Marchisio made his first appearance in a month. Sebastian Giovinco also entered and wanted a penalty when he collided with Rafael, but the referee suggested they were both going for the ball.

Verona almost snatched a shock equaliser in stoppages, but Barzagli charged down Jorginho’s attempt with the top of his shoulder.

Summer signings the difference for Bianconeri

Juventus emerged 2-1 victors over Hellas Verona
at the Juventus Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.

28lezp1.jpg20ha7wg.jpg

Sep 22, 2013

The home side went down to a Fabrizio Cacciatore strike but summer arrivals Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente gave Antonio Conte’s men the lead just before the break.

http://markting10.nl/

In the opening moments, Juve went for it, throwing men forward and Tevez had their first chance, testing Rafael from range, but the Brazilian was equal to it.

Arturo Vidal then got in on the act as his header was caught from under the crossbar by the Verona goalkeeper, before he and Tevez combined with a one-two but again Rafael was alert to the danger.

However, against the run of play Verona took the lead. Cacciatore tapped in from close range at the back post after a corner was headed on by Moras.

But the lead didn’t last long as a Leonardo Bonucci through ball beat the offside trap allowing Tevez to rifle the ball past Rafael.

Then, just moments later a Tevez shot smacked the post before rolling across the goal line and hit the other upright before landing in Rafael’s arms, much to the goalkeeper’s relief.

On the stroke of half time, Llorente got his first for his new club, heading home a Vidal cross.

The second period started in the same manner at the first, with Juve dominating the match and pinning the Mastini into their own half, Tevez once more the instigator for the home side.

Paul Pogba almost added to the Bianconeri’s lead with a fantastic strike from the edge of the area, but it struck the crossbar with Rafael rooted to the spot.

As the second period wore on Juve were content to hang onto the ball, as Verona looked out of ideas on the rare occasions they did receive the ball.

Claudio Marchisio then thought he had a goal on his return from injury, but the referee blew for a foul as the corner was floated in.

Then moments later Mauricio Isla should have made it three. The Chilean ran onto a ball over the top, but his half-volley could only find the side netting.

Poor finishing continued to dog Juve with Mirko Vucinic twisting and turning his way through a crowd of Verona defenders, but was unable to apply the finish, then Pogba once more with a long range effort straight at Rafael.

Juve closed the game out and in the end should have won by more than a single goal.

One half was enough, really

Verona took a surprising lead in Turin, but Juventus were back in front before the start of the second half.
The match could've ended then, as we really learned nothing from the second 45 minutes.

19xkcl.jpg

Sep 22, 2013

It took awhile for things to get rolling in the first half. Juventus had the majority of the possession and a ridiculous amount of shots, but it took until almost the break for one to land in the back of the net. In fact, it took an opening goal from Verona to convince the visitors that they needed to simmer down and send their shots on target.

http://markting10.nl/

Hellas scored in the 36th minute, catching Juventus napping. The corner kick was whipped into the area, Vangelis Moras got his head on it, knocking it on to Fabrizio Cacciatore, who, for some unfathomable reason, was lurking unmarked by the post. It took a simple tap to knock the ball past Marco Storari.

Juve almost instantly responded, but a brilliant goalline clearance from Verona kept out Paul Pogba's shot. But the equalizer came almost immediately, through a lovely goal from Carlos Tévez. The forward latched on to a through ball from Leonardo Bonucci, took the ball away from goal, turned, and launched his shot into the top of the net. Rafael had no chance.

The goalkeeper was still reeling from the goal when Tévez tried again. This time, the ball hit the inside of the post, ricocheted off, hit the other post, and fell into Rafael's arms. The Verona keeper curled into the fetal position, hugging the ball and whimpering.

His relief was palpable, but wiped away just before the halftime whistle. The go-ahead goal came from Fernando Llorente, scoring his first in a bianconeri kit. The cross came in from Arturo Vidal, Llorente headed it on, and Juventus went into the break feeling pretty good about themselves.

While Juventus continued to threaten throughout the second half, Verona did little to make things challenging for the Old Lady. It was as though the fight had gone out of the home side with Llorente's goal, and they were content to sit back and simply keep the scoreline respectable. Andrea Mandorlini tried to liven things up with the introduction of on-loan attacker Juan Iturbe, but the little guy failed to make a big impression.

The might be a team tapped to impress in Europe, but Juventus failed to impress against Copenhagen midweek, and a lack of a clinical approach in the second half shows this team still has some kinks to iron out. But the bianconeri came away with all three points, so any questions will likely be put on hold.

Juventus: Storari; Barzagli, Bonucci, Ogbonna; Isla, Vidal, Pirlo (Marchisio 66), Pogba, Asamoah; Tevez (Giovinco 80), Llorente (Vucinic 69)

Hellas Verona: Rafael; Gonzalez, Moras, Bianchetti; Cacciatore, Romulo, Donati (Juanito 58), Hallfredsson (Donadel 77), Agostini (Iturbe 67); Jorginho; Cacia

Goals: Cacciatore 36 (V), Tévez 40 (J), Llorente 45 (J)

Juventus 2 - Hellas Verona 1:
Initial reaction and random observations

344unfb.jpg

Sep 22, 2013

The talk during the week — non-Llorente category, of course — was that the squad rotation would continue. To what extent Antonio Conte would go to shuffling the deck we didn't exactly know, but the reality was that it was going to be a different lineup than the one we saw n Denmark.

http://markting10.nl/

We got our answer to the simple question and Conte kept his word because he's a good man.

Simple analysis to the simple question: I'd say it worked out pretty well.

Goals from Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente (!!) were the difference in a 2-1 win over Serie A newbies Hellas Verona on Sunday at Juventus Stadium. It was the first chance we got to see the 1-2 punch that Juve brought in during the summer transfer window we've been waiting all summer to see — well, unless you were at AT&T Park on the final day of July like yours truly — and it didn't disappoint at all.

It was the perfect response to what was another wonderful episode of "Watch Juventus Not Defend a Set Piece" on the game's opening goal by Hellas Verona.

Juventus were always going to dominate possession because of how many players Verona were putting behind the ball. It was just a matter of putting away the opportunities that came their way for Antonio Conte's side.

While the finishing was far from perfect, there was no goalkeeping masterclass like there was against FC Copenhagen to drive us all up the wall. And the ability to get the 2-1 lead right before the half was the way to grab the momentum right by the neck was exactly what the doctor ordered. It was only fitting that Tevez and Llorente, two of Juventus' best players on the day, were the ones who got the goals.

Conte: Tevez is an example to everyone, Llorente also did well today and there’s more to come from him. This goal will give him confidence.

Yep.

Random thoughts and observations

•Let's talk Fernando Llorente. Why? Because after getting a goal in your first Juventus start and having it be the difference on the scoreboard, you deserve to be talked about.

It was almost poetic justice that Llorente scored a goal after all the talk during the course of the past week. "Will he or won't he play?" "Well, why isn't he playing?" "Is he actually regretting his decision to come to Juve?" All that nonsense went right out the door the moment Llorente put his head on Arturo Vidal's cross and it found the back of the net. He obviously needs to still work himself into top game shape because of the circumstances we're all aware of, but this was something he can build off of, something that will definitely take a lot of pressure off his shoulders and get some confidence going.

@llorentefer19: I normally take a bit of time to hit form and knew I had to work hard, having spent almost a year out of action.

You were saying, Tuttosport?

•Let's talk about Carlos Tevez. Why? Because he was awesome yet again.

I've seen it said here and on the Twitter machine before, but it bears repeating: Tevez wasn't the best overall striker on the market this summer, but he certainly was the perfect one for Juventus and Antonio Conte's system. And that price looks more and more like a bargain with every game that passes.

•The game Mauricio Isla had reminded me of his days at Udinese. He made his presence felt down the right flank and was nowhere close to, in a good kind of way, the player he was a year ago. You can tell he's much healthier and that the knee is feeling pretty good these days. That extra bit of pace is back.

•Marco Storari stole a game check.

•How good were Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli today? Yeah, pretty darn good. Angelo Ogbonna was pretty solid, too — and that's definitely a good sign after his first couple of official appearances in a Juventus shirt looked a little shaky to say the least.

•Not Mirko Vucinic's best games off the bench. It started with his first touch being a turnover and never improved. On a day where Llorente scores his first Juventus goal, Vucinic was about as useful as Marco Motta.

•When was the last time, if any, Juventus absolutely dominated back-to-back matches with Andrea Pirlo on the field and doing absolutely nothing? You won't need a second hand to count the amount of times, I can tell you that much.

•Kwadwo Asamoah's yellow card was a Mauro Bergonzi Special. Tell your family and friends.

Juventus 2-1 Hellas Verona:
The Old Lady Has A Bright Future

2hicje9.jpg

Sep 22, 2013

Like many of World football’s truly giant clubs, Juventus are often cast as the hated enemy of a variety of teams. Meetings against some of these, such as Fiorentina and – most importantly – neighbours Torino, become deeply important rivalries.

http://markting10.nl/

Encounters against them take on a significance that goes far beyond the three points at stake, and winning becomes almost a necessity. Others, such as the ‘derby’ against Inter, are manufactured by circumstances and hold less meaning than, well, a cardboard league title.

Some fall into a third category however, one that writers are often reluctant to touch upon. Teams such as Hellas focus upon the Bianconero as their biggest game of the season, creating a fervour around the match that la vecchia Signora is then forced to match.

MATCH ANALYSIS by Adam Digby

Their supporters make their loathing of Turin’s finest clear, a feeling highlighted perfectly in John’s excellent preview. It was armed with that intense desire to topple the champions that the Gialloblu left Verona on Sunday, entering Juventus Stadium for the very first time.

Antonio Conte kept his word as Marco Storari donned the gloves in place of Gigi Buffon, while the real news of the day came in attack. Fernando Llorente was given his first start alongside Carlos Tevez, meaning not so much patience was required. Angelo Ogbonna and Mauricio Isla also made the first XI, meaning the rotation discussed by the coach was firmly employed here.

With Luca Toni – scorer of that historic first goal in Juve’s new home – struggling with injury, Coach Andrea Mandorlini was also forced to make changes. Domenico Maietta and Raphael Martinho were also absent, making the newly promoted side appear much weaker than they would want to be for such a fixture.

The game began as expected, Juventus bossing possession as Hellas retreated to a deep position, happy to sit in a compact shape and protect their own box. It was a tactical choice made by many sides over the past two seasons and it sadly paid dividends once again. Having had two chances to score from speedy counterattacks, they bundled a goal home from a set-piece as Fabrizio Cacciatore put the visitors in front.

Unlike during those previous campaigns, Conte is no longer forced to rely on the Nicklas Bendtner’s or Marco Borriello’s of this world. He now has genuine talent in attack and it took Tevez just seconds to prove that fact, smashing a rocket past Rafael in the Hellas goal. The goalkeeper had already saved one effort from the Argentinean – and thrown his chin in the way of the follow up – but had no chance as Tevez beat him from a tight angle.

As if to reinforce the point that Juve’s attack is now vastly superior, Llorente then put the Bianconeri in front. As he neatly flicked Vidal’s cross into the back of the net, twitter went into meltdown as those who backed Conte not playing him broke out the I-told-you-so’s, and the bitter complainers said it proved he should’ve played all along. Comedy.

Llorente is however, far more than just a lumbering target man and he showed it here, dropping deep to become involved in the buildup. Neat in possession, el Rey Leòn did everything Conte has demanded of every striker to pass through Vinovo during his tenure thus far. It was a clear display of his ability and a glimpse at the incredible potential of his partnership with Tevez.

Juventus continued to dominate, outgunning the Gialloblu at an amazing rate of fourteen shots to one and enjoying almost 65% of possession. They may have failed to add to those two goals but this was a performance that was about far more than the scoreline.

The narratives have been destroyed, the BS stories torn up. The Tevez-Llorente partnership is not the future of Juventus, it is here and now and the Old Lady was just in the kind of mood that meant no amount of faux-rivalry was going to stand in her way. Job done.

LE PAGELLE by Adam Digby

Marco Storari 6.5
– Given a chance as Conte rested Buffon, the former Sampdoria man was largely untested. Still Serie A’s best reserve ‘keeper by some distance.

Andrea Barzagli 7.0 - A quiet game for the Italian as Hellas continued the trend of avoiding the right side of the Juventus defence. Wonder if he took the Verona front three out of his pocket yet?

Leonardo Bonucci 7.0 - Superb assist to Tevez for the equaliser, he was rarely tested in defence and stepped out well to relieve the pressure in midfield. Very tidy performance.

Angelo Ogbonna 6.5 - With Giorgio Chiellini struggling in recent weeks, it was good to see the Cassino native start in what should be his natural position. Had very little to do but, like Barzagli, did it very well.

Mauricio Isla 7.0 - The Chilean wingback continues to prove he is almost fully recovered from his injury and deputised well for the rested Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Arturo Vidal 7.0 - Permanently in top form these days, his understanding with compatriot Isla raised his game yet another notch. Just superb.

Andrea Pirlo 6.0 - The Bearded Genius was the least effective of the midfield trio here. As Conte looks to rest key players it is Pirlo who is perhaps in greatest need, and a week off could do him no harm.

’66 Claudio Marchisio 6.5 - Came on for Pirlo to make his first appearance since the Super Cup win over Lazio. His defensive awareness has been sorely missed and his return comes with typically perfect timing.

Paul Pogba 6.0 - Perhaps it was the presence of the recovering Marchisio but the youngster was guilty of trying too hard today. Far better when he keeps things simple, he over indulged himself, often taking too many touches and losing the ball.

Kwadwo Asamoah 6.0 - At times overwhelmed on the left flank, the return of Marchisio is essential to him more than anyone else. Another poor showing compared to others, perhaps time Isla was given a chance in his place.

Fernando Llorente 8.5 - Wait, he wasn’t sold to Tottenham or Barcelona yet? Well, while the press scramble for a new target for their nonsense, I can do no better than quote the excellent @juventus_fc_fan who tweeted “Combined well, looked dangerous, made some great passes, scored an important goal. Couldn’t ask for a better debut. Forza Llorente!”

’69 Sebastian Giovinco 6.0 - Now both he and Llorente played, I guess the ‘Caso Padoin’ stories will dominate the papers?

Carlos Tevez 8.5 - Simply brilliant. From his stunning equaliser to those slaloming runs at the opposition defenders, everything about Tevez oozes quality. Perfect for Conte and this Juventus, his ability and work ethic echo many former Juventus greats.

’79 Mirko Vucinic 5.0 - His arrival allowed Llorente the ovation he deserved. Besides a yellow card for dissent that was his only real contribution.

Antonio Conte 7.5 - Doesn’t hate Llorente or Isla, made some intelligent substitutions and generally got his tactics just about right. Perhaps he might, four trophies and an undefeated season later, actually know what he’s doing? Or maybe I’m whistling in the wind.

Llorente nets winner

Fernando Llorente scored the winner on his full debut as
Juventus came from behind to beat promoted Hellas Verona 2-1 in Turin.

okn8rc.jpg

Sep 22, 2013

The Gialloblu arrived as giant-killers having beaten AC Milan on the opening day of the Serie A season but reigning champions Juve failed to heed the warning and conceded an opportunistic goal from Fabrizio Cacciatore.

http://markting10.nl/

Carlos Tevez responded emphatically with a fiercely-struck equaliser and Llorente, making his bow at the Juventus Stadium, completed the turnaround with a header deep into first-half stoppage time.

The victory offered reason to be cheerful to Juventus after a disappointing week which saw the Bianconeri held to 1-1 draws by both Inter Milan and FC Copenhagen, while Verona could take heart from a plucky performance that enhanced their reputation as the newcomers mostly likely to prosper.

Perhaps in a defiant response to reports he had been dissatisfied with Llorente's pre-season performances following his free transfer from Athletic Bilbao, Juve coach Antonio Conte handed the Spaniard a first start of the new season.

For most of the first half, though, it looked like he would be upstaged by fellow summer signing Tevez, as the dynamic Argentinian relentlessly terrorised the Verona box.

He tried his luck from distance before Leonardo Bonucci fed Llorente in the area, Rafael rushing out to block.

After Hellas enjoyed a good chance through Daniele Cacia, Tevez steamed up the other end to rifle a fierce strike at Rafael. The Brazilian received a cut to his chin in the tussle that followed and play was briefly suspended.

The Brazilian keeper was back on his feet to deny Paul Pogba a free header and, on 25 minutes, he watched Tevez twist and drive an effort just over his crossbar.

Tevez came knocking once again after exchanging swift passes with Arturo Vidal but after Rafael made the save, Verona raced up the other end to score.

With the Juve backline distracted, Vangelis Moras' header snuck through to Cacciatore in the six-yard box and he tucked home without any fuss.

The Bianconeri response was immediate and clinical as Tevez waited just two minutes to seize on Bonucci's through-ball and rocket a shot just under the bar.

Verona were reeling and, three minutes into time added on, Llorente opened his account for the Italian champions with a headed finish from Vidal's cross.

The visitors put their heads together over the break and came out strongly, Jorginho quickly finding himself in a shooting position, where he was denied by Bonucci.

Juve pushed back and had Rafael sprawling to parry an Andrea Pirlo free-kick in the 64th minute.

The bar saved Verona moments later, though, as Pogba's shot on the turn caught the keeper unawares.

But try as they might, the Bianconeri could not find a third goal to finish their opponents off but Sebastian Giovinco - a late substitute for Tevez - looked particularly dangerous around the box to keep Rafael sweating until the very end.

on Sunday, as the champions dominated proceedings despite the narrow margin of victory.

Sep 22, 2013

Juventus

Marco Storari
- Bar the odd effort, the goalkeeper had a comfortable afternoon.

Andrea Barzagli - The former Wolfsburg man put in another fine performance at the back, reading the match with considerable ease as he marshalled his troops wonderfully well in Buffon's absence.

Angelo Obinze Ogbonna - The summer arrival looked less convincing than his defensive partners, as he continues to adapt to his new side's philosophy. Still, he showed enough potential to warrant his inclusion.

Leonardo Bonucci - Showed great purpose in bringing the ball out of the back four and starting attacks from deep.

Mauricio Isla - His energy and commitment could not be faulted as he found lots of space down the right flank, yet his end product was not consistent enough.

Paul Pogba - The midfielder was industrious as ever but a little clumsy with the ball at feet. Nevertheless, his long-range shooting was always a threat.

Andrea Pirlo - The midfielder was man-marked for much of the game and, as a result, his impact was severly diluted.

Arturo Vidal - The midfielder battled until the final whistle, racing around the pitch to break up Verona's sparse counter attacks and ignite attacking spells.

Kwadwo Asamoah - Linked up with Pogba very well in the opening stages but faded as the game wore on.

Fernando Llorente - The Spaniard silenced his doubters in the best way possible - by scoring the winning goal. Lasted 70 minutes but showed glimpses of his quality throughout.

Carlos Tévez - The Argentine gave the all-action performance that we're all accustomed to by now. Never gave the Veronese a moment's rest with his tenacity and skilful play and found the back of the net with a thunderbolt from a tight angle.

Substitutions

Claudio Marchisio
- Almost marked his return from injury with a goal but was also shown a yellow card.

Mirko Vučinić - All eyes were on how the Montenegrin would respond to Llorente's goal, but he did not make the most of his opportunity after being booked for dissent.

Sebastian Giovinco - Late cameo from the diminutive attacker, who almost won his side a penalty in the closing stages.

http://markting10.nl/

Hellas Verona

Rafael de Andrade Bittencourt Pinheiro
- Performed admirably between the sticks to deny Juventus from adding to their tally.

Matteo Bianchetti - The teenager was extremely naive in the build-up to Tevez's opener as he was found ball-watching.

Vangelis Moras - The Greek defender made a series of interventions early on and commanded his ground well.

A. González - Partnered Moras and Bianchetti well in the heart of defence, although he was found wanting in his duel with Llorente.

Fabrizio Cacciatore - The former Sampdoria man levelled the scores for his side and did not put a foot wrong for the remainder of the match.

Alessandro Agostini - The veteran full-back was forced into submission for much of the afternoon by Isla and was replaced midway through the second half.

Rômulo - The ex-Fiorentina midfielder was probably the most lively of his side's forward players, although his end product lacked quality.

Emil Hallfredsson - Played most of the afternoon as a defensive winger with little success, thus neutralising any impact he may have had in advanced areas of the pitch.

Jorginho - The Brazilian starlet showed glimpses of his potential in advanced areas, although those moments came too few and far between.

Massimo Donati - Had a difficult afternoon after he was given the run-about by the Juventus midfield and offered very little protection to his defence.

Daniele Cacia - The ex-Lecce man did very well to use his strength and hold the ball up at times, despite having virtually no support.

Substitutions

Juan Manuel Iturbe Arévalo
- The young Argentine was keen to make an impact during his cameo and impressed with his dribbling ability and eye for goal.

Juanito - Came on with the instruction of marking Pirlo out of the game and successfully limited the playmaker to very few touches.

Conte on League start & Chievo challenge

Sep 24, 2013

Antonio Conte has admitted his surprise at the superb starts to the season from some of Italy’s top clubs.

http://markting10.nl/

The likes of Fiorentina, Roma, Inter and Napoli have begun the new campaign in impressive fashion, and the Bianconeri Coach has claimed that the quality on show in Serie A has been better than ever.

“I honestly did not expect such strong responses from Inter, Milan, Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina,” he told a Press conference.

“It’s a testimony to those sides who are showing that you can get out of difficult situations through technical quality. It’s going to be very difficult to win in Italy this season.”

Conte then commented on the upcoming match with Chievo tomorrow.

“Yesterday we had a warm down and then today we’ll prepare for Wednesday’s match. We’ll have to pay close attention to Chievo. It’s the fourth game in a short space of time, so it’s only natural that there will be some rotations to the team. But whoever comes in will maintain the balance of the team.

“Last year we made some changes for Coppa Italia games. When I speak of rotating the team, it will be a measured thing.

“It’s not like I’ll be making seven or eight changes.

“It often happens that the opponent changes the way they play because of our quality. It’s not easy. Because you’ll often find teams with eight men behind the ball.

“This happened at the weekend against Verona. It’s not easy. I expect the same thing will happen tomorrow as well.”

Juventus squad for Chievo

Sep 24, 2013

Juventus have named their squad for Wednesday night’s trip to Chievo at the Stadio Bentegodi.

http://markting10.nl/

There is only one change from the list Antonio Conte drew up for their 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona on Sunday.

Primavera goalkeeper Gianmarco Vannucchi comes in for his teammate Leonardo Citti.

Gigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini and Mirko Vucinic are expected to be in the starting XI after they were rested against Verona.

Juventus squad for Chievo: Buffon, Chiellini, Ogbonna, Pogba, Marchisio, Vucinic, Tevez, De Ceglie, Giovinco, Peluso, Llorente, Barzagli, Motta, Bonucci, Padoin, Pirlo, Asamoah, Vidal, Lichtsteiner, Quagliarella, Storari, Isla, Vannucchi

Sannino prepares Juve tricks

Sep 24, 2013

Giuseppe Sannino has some tricks up his sleeve to block Juventus on Wednesday, just days after Chievo beat Udinese.

http://markting10.nl/

The Flying Donkeys host the Scudetto holders at 20.45.

“It was a tough victory against Udinese, but now we have to focus on the next game with an extremely strong side,” Coach Sannino told the club website.

“All the players who step on to the field give their all, that is what I ask of them, but we can always improve.”

It’s reported Chievo will adjust their tactics from a 4-4-2 to a 5-3-2 to counter the Juventus midfield.

After seeing the effect Jorginho had when man-marking Andrea Pirlo on Sunday for Hellas Verona, he could give striker Alberto Paloschi the job of tracking the Italy legend.

“Sergio Pellissier and Luca Rigoni have a lot of experience and can set the example for the other players. Sergio in particular can let them know what it means to wear this jersey. Rigoni also could’ve had a more ‘important’ career elsewhere.

“The fans have always supported us and we thank them. This year Serie A is very difficult, but we will try to do our best.”

Conte stunned by Serie A strength

The Italian coach says that the likes of Napoli, Roma, Inter
and Fiorentina have surprised him, while revealing his plan to rotate his squad.

Sep 24, 2013

Antonio Conte has revealed his shock at the strong start Juventus' Scudetto rivals have made in the opening four games of the Serie A season.

http://markting10.nl/

Napoli and Roma are top with a 100 per cent record, while Inter, Fiorentina and the Bianconeri have dropped just two points to date, suggesting the Italian top flight could be set for its tightest race in years.

Conte believes that it will be nigh-on impossible to predict who will top the table this season, while admitting his surprise at the strength of the division.

"I honestly did not expect such strong responses from Inter, AC Milan, Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina," he told reporters on Tuesday.

"It’s a testimony to those sides who are showing that you can get out of difficult situations through technical quality. It’s going to be very difficult to win in Italy this season."

Conte also revealed his plan to rotate his Juve squad for their clash with Chievo on Wednesday, but insisted he would only be tweaking his starting XI.

"We'll have to pay close attention to Chievo," the 44-year-old added. "It's the fourth game in a short space of time, so it's only natural that there will be some rotations to the team. But whoever comes in will maintain the balance of the team.

"Last year we made some changes for Coppa Italia games. When I speak of rotating the team, it will be a measured thing. It's not like I’ll be making seven or eight changes.

Chievo-Juventus Preview:
Bianconeri out to prolong unbeaten run

The Italian champions recorded a narrow victory over Hellas Verona on Sunday
and travel to their city rivals to continue their title defence on Wednesday.

Sep 24, 2013

Juventus are out to continue their unbeaten start to the Serie A season when they visit Chievo on Wednesday.

http://markting10.nl/

Antonio Conte's side have won three and drawn one of their opening four league games to get their bid for a third straight Scudetto off to a strong start.

Their latest success did not come without complications though, as they had to come from behind to defeat Chievo's neighbours Hellas Verona 2-1 at the Juventus Stadium on Sunday.

Fabrizio Cacciatore put the away side ahead, but Carlos Tevez equalised before Fernando Llorente scored the winner in first-half injury time on his first start for the club.

And the Spain international is targeting further improvement as he settles in Turin.

"I normally take a bit of time to hit top form and knew I'd have to work a great deal, also because I pretty much missed the whole of last season," he told the club's official website.

"In addition I needed to settle in and learn the language, and adapting to a new environment is never an easy task for anyone.

"I'm getting on great here and feel the manager has faith in me, but I know I need to keep working to get back into peak condition."

Conte made five changes for the victory over Verona, but goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, and defenders Stephan Lichtsteiner and Giorgio Chiellini could earn recalls against Chievo.

Winger SImone Pepe is likely to miss out again with a thigh problem, although midfielder Claudio Marchisio could start after coming on as a substitute in the win over Verona after a long-standing knee injury.

Giuseppe Sannino's side have not beaten Juve since January 2010, although they have drawn four of the previous six Serie A encounters between the sides.

And Chievo will head into this showdown with the champions buoyed by their first league success of the season after they defeated Udinese 2-1 on Saturday.

Srikes from Sergio Pellissier and Luca Rigoni before half-time ensured the three points after Maicosuel had put the visitors in front after just one minute at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.

Pellissier and Alberto Paloschi are likely to once more lead the line against Juve, while midfielder Alessio Sestu is expected to feature despite taking a knock in the victory over Udinese.

Chievo Verona v Juventus –
Team News, Tactics, Lineups And Prediction

Sep 25, 2013

Chievo, like their more-often-than-not rocky pitch, have presented bumps for Juventus in the past. The Champions dispatched of Chievo’s neighbors, Hellas Verona, at the Juventus Stadium and maintained their unbeaten run this season. New boys – Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente –were the heroes on the night as they fought back from a goal down to comfortably record their third win of the season.

http://markting10.nl/

As for the home side, they recorded they’re coming off their first win of the campaign. The Flying Donkeys came from behind to beat Udinese 2-1. Sergio Pellissier and Luca Rigoni got their names on the score-sheet for Chievo. That win meant they now sit in 14th position in the standings, a position they will hope to better as the season moves on.

Team News and Tactical Brief

CHIEVO VERONA

It took a while but Chievo finally grabbed their first three points of the season against Udinese. The Flying Donkeys are a modest side that has always been a tricky hurdle at their home turf, the Bentegodi. With a few smart additions and the fact that they manage to retain the want-away Cyril Thereau, Chievo could be a bit more ambitious this time around and improve upon their 12th place finish from last season.

Manager Giuseppe Sannino should stick with his 4-4-2 formation. The win against Udinese should definitely act as a much needed boost in confidence as they prepare to host the Champions. Of the 8 goals they’ve conceded, 6 have come in the first half which indicates that they are slow starters. Maicousel, who scored Udinese’s goal during the weekend , netted within a minute from kick-off. A few changes are expected to be made by Sannino to his starting eleven with Sardo, Papp, Hetemaj and Thereau all supposedly given the nod.

Chievo should take a more organized approach to the game. As most teams have done this season, they will attempt to crowd out the midfield and defense and get bodies behind the ball. Sannino might task one of Thereau or Paloschi to shadow Andrea Pirlo. Pirlo hasn’t found his form yet and was impressively marked out of the game by Jorginho against Hellas. The Coach will also be aware of the vulnerability Juventus have shown from set-pieces. The previous two goals conceded did come from dead ball situations, which is quite startling given the caliber of the Bianconeri’s defenders. Captain Sergio Pellissier ,who has been the scourge of Juventus in the past, will likely start from the bench.

Dainelli and Kupisz should be unavailable.

Possible Starting XI (4-4-2): Puggioni; Sardo, Papp, Cesar, Drame; Hetemaj, Radovanovic, Rigoni, Estigarribia; Thereau, Paloschi

JUVENTUS

You got the feeling of déjà vu as Juventus struggled to finish off their chances against Hellas Verona. The visitors sat deep and were organized as the Bianconeri knocked on their door. It took a simple pass from Leonardo Bonucci to open up a defense that had dozed off, Tevez would make no mistake. Fernando Llorente finally got his chance to showcase his talent and justified his selection with a trademark header. The Spaniard roared alongside the Bianconeri fans as he scored, what turned out to be the winner.

Rotation is the need of the hour as games come by thick and fast. Reports from Italy suggest Buffon, Chiellini, Lichtsteiner, Marchisio, Peluso and Vucinic will all return to the starting eleven. With six new players poised to start, the aim is obviously to keep the players fresh as Juventus prepare to tackle all three competitions they feature in.

Much of Juve’s build up play revolves around Carlos Tevez. The Argentine has slotted in with ease, and has backed claims that he matches Conte’s philosophy with tireless performances. Against a team that will be content to sit back and allow the opposition to have the ball, his creativity comes into play. Peluso was one of Juve’s best players against Copenhagen, delivering countless dangerous balls into the box. A player who has garnered criticism for his less than impressive outings but one must keep in mind that he is a natural full-back and showed his quality in his favorable position against the Danish side.

Pepe and Martin Caceres are on the treatment table and will be unavailable.

Possible Starting XI (3-5-2): Buffon; Bonucci, Ogbonna, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Pogba, Pirlo, Marchisio, Peluso; Tevez, Vucinic

Player To Watch Out For

Carlos Tevez (Juventus)

JuventusTevez was on fire against Hellas Verona. Dropping deep to receive possession and wouldn’t turn down an invitation to blast one on goal. His persistence paid off when he found the back of the net and he has been paying back the faith Juventus have shown in him. Expect him to bring his ‘A’ game against Chievo on Wednesday.

Prediction

Chievo Verona 1-2 Juventus

Fatigue will certainly act as a factor that will determine the outcome of this game. The players fitness levels will be tested to the death. Quality would suggest a Juventus win but having put away another Bianconeri during the weekend; Chievo will look to spark another surprise. However, the Champions should grind out a victory.

Chievo-Juventus Betting Preview:
Expect a game of few goals at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi

La Vecchia Signora have struggled for goals at this ground in recent seasons
and Al Hain-Cole expects that run to continue against Giuseppe Santino's men on Wednesday.

Sep 25, 2013

Juventus will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season when they travel to the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi to face Chievo on Wednesday.

http://markting10.nl/

Having secured a 2-1 win over Hellas Verona on Sunday, Antonio Conte’s men are 4/9 (1.44) favourites with Coral to triumph on a return trip to the northeast city this evening.

New boss Giuseppe Sannino secured his first win at the fourth attempt against Udinese on Saturday and his side are available at 6/1 (7.00) to follow that up with just a second victory over the reigning champions in 21 Serie A encounters.

Four of the last six meetings between these sides have resulted in a draw, and you can get odds of 10/3 (4.33) on them cancelling each other out once again in this one.

Despite winning their second consecutive title at a canter last season, la Vecchia Signora’s success was more a triumph of efficiency than potency, as they only managed to hit the back of the net more than twice in nine of their 38 league fixtures, and only four times on the road.

What really marked Conte’s men apart was a defence that conceded just 24 goals, 12 fewer than the second most miserly team, and that remains the foundation of their game plan at the beginning of this campaign.

I Mussi Volanti are therefore unlikely to throw too many men forward in attack and will hope instead to frustrate their opponents, as they look to rediscover the home form that made the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi such a difficult away ground last season.

The hosts conceded just 16 times in 19 matches in front of their own fans last campaign and have restricted Juventus to just three goals in their last four visits, so goals are unlikely to come easy for the guests tonight.

Sannino came close to frustrating the champions in a 1-0 away defeat while in charge of ultimately-relegated Palermo last season, and odds of 17/20 (1.85) are well worth backing on him masterminding another low-scoring affair this time, with no more than two goals going in.

That bet would have paid out in 11 of Chievo’s last 14 home league fixtures, as well as five of the visitors’ last six on the road, not to mention six of the last seven encounters between the sides at this ground.

MATCH PREVIEW

Sep 25, 2013

Fresh from comeback weekend victories, both Chievo and Juventus are gunning for two in a row in their midweek clash.

http://markting10.nl/

Chievo registered their first win of the new term against Udinese, but had to recover from Maicosuel’s second minute goal. Sergio Pellissier opened his season account, while Luca Rigoni made it 2-1 before the break.

Coach Giuseppe Sannino urged the Flying Donkeys to remain grounded following their breakthrough triumph. He stressed they must continue working hard in order to gain positive results.

Dario Dainelli, Perparim Hetemaj and Tomaz Kupisz are set to miss the clash through injury.

Juventus recovered from successive draws to defeat Verona. They too were forced to overturn a deficit thanks to Fabrizio Cacciatore’s opener. Quick-fire responses from Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente established the lead.

Antonio Conte was pleased the team were able to break down Verona’s bolted defence. He was also happy for Llorente, noting the debut goal boosted his confidence following endless chatter surrounding his position within the team.

Given their heavy schedule, Conte says rotation is inevitable. Simone Pepe, Martin Caceres and Rubinho are hampered by injury and sidelined for the match.

Chievo have earned maximum points just once in the fixture’s past. On the other hand, the Bianconeri have dominated with six wins under their belts, in addition to a trio of stalemates.

Keep an eye on: Alberto Paloschi (Chievo) – Now established as a regular starter for the Gialloblu, Paloschi will aim to add to his pair of goals this term. They both arrived against Napoli, and the former Milan striker will be aiming to net against another Scudetto contender.

Form guide: Chievo ( -D L L W) Juventus ( -W W D W)

Last season: Chievo 1-2 Juventus

Stat fact:
Just one of Juve’s six Verona wins have come by a margin of more than two goals, a 4-1 success in 2002-03.

Chievo (probable): Puggioni; Sardo, Papp, Cesar, Drame; Estigarribia, Rigoni, Radovanovic, Improta; Thereau, Paloschi

Juventus (probable): Buffon; Bonucci, Ogbonna, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Pogba, Pirlo, Marchisio, Peluso; Quagliarella, Llorente

Sep 25, 2013

Juventus coach Antonio Conte has decided to rest Carlos Tevez for tonight's trip to Chievo, with Claudio Marchisio fit to start for the first time in Serie A this season.

http://markting10.nl/

Tevez has been ever-present in the Old Lady's first four league games but misses out this evening, with Fabio Quagliarella returning to partner Fernando Llorente in attack.

Arturo Vidal also steps aside as Conte decides to rest players for his side's third game in eight days, with Marchisio making a welcome return for the Bianconeri.

Chievo are without Dario Dainelli and Perparim Hetemaj tonight as they go in search of back-to-back victories, but Cyril Thearau is passed fit and returns in attack.

HT: Chievo shock Juventus 1-0

Sep 25, 2013

Juventus are surprisingly trailing 1-0 to Chievo after a Gigi Buffon error gifted Cyril Thereau.

http://markting10.nl/

The Bianconeri rotated the squad again after fighting back to beat Hellas Verona 2-1 on Sunday. Chievo were fresh from defeating Udinese 2-1, their first win of the season, though Dario Dainelli and Perparim Hetemaj were unavailable, but Marcelo Estigarribia faced his old club.

Juve have only ever lost here once, 1-0 in 2009-10, along with seven wins and three draws.

It was a slow start in Verona with Paul Pogba having the first real chance on 20 minutes, his header off target from a Federico Peluso cross.

Incredibly, Chievo took the lead, as Buffon’s poor clearance fell to Gennaro Sardo and his cross found Cyril Thereau’s volley.

Fabio Quagliarella’s effort smacked Claiton in the face and as the move continued Andrea Pirlo’s follow-up was deflected over the bar.

Quagliarella stung Cristian Puggioni’s palms from distance and Juve had penalty appeals for an Estigarribia handling offence, as he was scuffling with Pogba at the time.

Llorente should’ve equalised before the break, but his header had no power behind it on Mauricio Isla’s cross.

Chievo 1-0 Juventus (Half-Time)

Scorers: Thereau 28 (C )

Chievo: Puggioni; Sardo, Claiton, Cesar, Drame, Bernardini; Bentivoglio, Rigoni, Estigarribia; Paloschi, Thereau

Juventus: Buffon; Barzagli, Ogbonna, Chiellini; Isla, Pogba, Pirlo, Marchisio, Peluso; Quagliarella, Llorente
