Perotti: Juventus Are Always Strong

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/perotti-juventus-are-always-strong/?

Sep 19, 2015

Genoa midfielder Diego Perotti has warned the Grifone must be at their best if they are to beat Juventus on Sunday.

The two sides meet at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris as both look to kick-start the season after making poor starts to their campaigns with the Bianconeri taking just one point from three games whereas the Rossoblu have three from three games.

“We are a great team, but we have some players out injured,” said Perotti to Sky Sport Italia.

“Against Juventus last year it was memorable because we won the game against a team that had not lost in a year.

“It was very exciting to do that in front of our fans and I hope that we can repeat it.

They have lost three or four important players and it’s affected them, but they are always Juventus.”

The Argentinian explained he was also keen to start focusing on his football and not his future, after he failed to leave Genoa in the summer.

“I’m fine at Genoa and I hope that the market rumours will subside now. When I got to talking with [president] Enrico Preziosi I told him that I was a player of Genoa and for me nothing has changed.”

Allegri: 'Fundamental Juve moment'

http://www.football-italia.net/73166/allegri-fundamental-juve-moment?

Sep 19, 2015

Max Allegri tried to shrug off Manchester City euphoria, as Genoa is “a fundamental moment in the Juventus campaign.”

It kicks off on Sunday at 15.00 CET.

“The win over Manchester City was a very important result for the Champions League, because starting with an away victory against the favourites of the group is a boost for everyone,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Serie A is another matter, as we have one point from three rounds and started badly in terms of results, if not in terms of performance.

“We have to be realistic, look at the table and seek our first victory against a tough side like Genoa. Tomorrow is one of those matches that during the course of a campaign becomes fundamental.

“Usually there are three such moments in a season and we’ve reached it already at the fourth round, because it is certainly an important crossroads for us.”

“Serie A is not compromised, as there are so many games still to go. We are eight points adrift of the top, so right now the favourites for the Scudetto are Inter and Roma. We’ll take it one step at a time, try to climb the table and start keeping clean sheets.

“Unfortunately Martin Caceres is not at our disposal, as after two games for Uruguay and the Chievo match, he had a slight muscular problem.

“The most important thing, as I said before Tuesday’s game, was to focus only on working, staying quiet and picking up points.

“We went from total depression on Monday to total euphoria on Tuesday. That’s good for the media, but not for us. The team needs to grow consistently, as we have 10 new players, many of whom are young and unaccustomed to playing three big games per week.

“Enthusiasm is good, but we must immediately forget Manchester City and keep going game by game, as there are another 50 to go this season.

“We must find the right balance, which is to stop flying from enthusiasm to depression and depression to enthusiasm.”

Much has been written about Allegri’s change of tactics from a 4-3-1-2 to the 4-3-3 with Juan Guillermo Cuadrado. More than specific numbers, I’ll say we have always played with four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards.

“We could play the same way as on Tuesday or we could change things round. After today’s training session, I will decide who plays, keeping in mind that we have another match on Wednesday against Frosinone.

“Against Manchester City we had four attacking players, even four and a half considering Hernanes was in a deeper role. If all these attacking players work for the team, we attack and defend better. If they don’t, it all becomes more difficult, as the two moves are strongly linked.”

Simone Zaza has been tipped to start against Genoa or Frosinone, as the former Sassuolo striker is frustrated at the lack of playing time.

“Simone is improving in training, as he took some time to settle, as was normal. Daniele Rugani, Simone Padoin and others who aren’t playing as much need some patience and to be ready when called on, because by the end of the season everyone will get their chance.

“Playing for a big club means being prepared to fight for your place and to make the most of the 10 minutes or whatever that you are given,” noted Allegri.

“The team defended well in Manchester, conceding only on a corner with a foul. Manchester City had gone 11 or so games without conceding, so Juventus will eventually get back to keeping clean sheets too.

“Last season perhaps Gigi Buffon intervened the way only he can, or our opponents missed the chance or luck went our way. At the moment we are conceding at the first chance we allow, it’s just a moment and it will pass.”

Europe's four biggest clubs
want Morata & Pogba - Allegri

The Juve coach acknowledged that the star duo are wanted by the "four largest
clubs in Europe" but says they must think only of Genoa on Sunday.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/transfer-zone/2015/09/19/15524292/-?

Sep 19, 2015

Massimiliano Allegri understands why the likes of Alvaro Morata and Paul Pogba are being linked with Europe's top clubs but says that the pair must now concentrate on helping Juventus get their their Serie A title bid back on track.

Morata was on target in Tuesday's Champions League victory over Manchester City but has since had to deny reports he will return to Real Madrid at the end of the season – with the Spanish club retaining a buy-back clause on the striker after allowing him to join the Bianconeri last year.

Pogba, meanwhile, was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the close-season but not only did the midfielder remain in Turin, he was given Juve's prestigious No.10 shirt following the departure of Carlos Tevez for Boca Juniors.

Before the win at City, neither Morata nor Pogba had done anything of note in Juve's three preceding Serie A outings, with Allegri's men having picked up just one point from their opening three fixtures.

Consequently, the Bianconeri boss is hoping that the pair can now combine to kick-start the club's bid for a fifth successive Scudetto.

"It is clear that the value of the players has increased," Allegri told reporters on Saturday.

"Pogba and Morata are extraordinary players and it is logical that they are in the sights of the four largest clubs in Europe.

“Tuesday represented an important success for our Champions League campaign. Starting off with an away triumph over the group favourites and a side tipped to win the competition outright is a good result for everyone.

“The league though is a different matter entirely. We’ve started badly in terms of results, despite decent performances against Udinese and Chievo, but we need to be realistic and look at the table.

“Genoa is a tough place to go to and they’re a very aggressive side to face. It’s one of those games that become crucial for your season as a whole.”

Indeed, with 16th-placed Juve already six points behind the runners-up for the past two seasons, Roma, and a further two adrift of the early pacesetters, Inter, the champions are in dire need of a win at the Luigi Ferraris.

Allegri is not pushing the panic button just yet but acknowledged that his side are no longer the title favourites.

"The championship is not compromised because there are a lot of games to come," the former AC Milan coach added.

"We cannot talk about the Scudetto because we are less than eight games in. Right now, the favourites are Inter and Roma. We are realists and we will take it one step at a time.

"If we win against Genoa we go to four points, not 12 so we must begin by not conceding goals and winning.

"I do not know if it's an advantage, you have to look at the table for now. We're late, we face the championship game after game, we'll see where we are at Christmas."

MATCH PREVIEW

http://www.football-italia.net/SerieA/match/preview/69854

Sep 19, 2015

Juventus broke out of their slump this week, beating Manchester City 1-2 in the Champions League. But can the Bianconeri affirm their push forward against Genoa?

It hasn’t been Juve’s best start to a Serie A season. Two losses and one draw, securing only one point in three games. The team just hasn’t clicked in Serie A like it did the past four seasons, scoring only two goals and conceding four. Juventus have had 57 shots at goal so far (third behind only Roma and Napoli), but only 31% of those where accurate (19th just in front of Milan). Securing a brilliant comeback in Europe’s biggest competition against a roaring Man City team, however, might just have vanquished Juve’s demons in Italy.

It’s possible Allegri will give a couple of the players who faced City a rest. Andrea Barzagli could replace Giorgio Chiellini at centre-back. Alex Sandro made his mark against Chievo with strong runs forward and is expected to once again replace Patrice Evra at left-back, while Roberto Pereyra is an option to replace Stefano Sturaro in midfield. Up front, it’s hard to predict who Allegri prefers. There are reports Simone Zaza could make his first start.

Genoa have also struggled mightily this season. The Grifone have only captured three points after beating Verona 2-0 at home. It has been the only game Genoa was able to score. Meaning the team has scored only twice from 36 created chances. Even against ten Fiorentina players, the Grifone were unable to find the target. Luckily, Genoa have been solid defensively, conceding only two goals in three games.

Missing Diego Perotti has been key for Genoa. But the team, not in the least striker Goran Pandev, should get a boost from the Argentinian’s imminent return on Sunday. On top, Genoa beat Juventus last time both teams met at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, when Luca Antonini secured a 1-0 victory in stoppage time. The Grifone look to add to their strong home record in Serie A.

Genoa are always ready to face a top team at home, but they may be clashing with Juventus at the worst possible time. After a big European victory and in dire need of points in Serie A. The Bianconeri should come out strong to affirm their push forward and to send a message to their biggest rivals - “we are back in business”.

Keep an eye on: Diego Perotti (Genoa) – Perotti has only played 17 minutes this season due to a thigh injury. The Argentinian is key to Genoa’s success and probably feels the need to impress during his first start of the season. Look for Perotti to try and make it tough on Juventus’ defense.

Form Guide: Genoa (- - L W L) Juventus (- - D L L)

Last season: Genoa 1-0 Juventus

Stat Fact
: Genoa have beaten Juventus 17 times in 48 home games, but only two times after beating the Old Lady twice at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in 1991.

Genoa (probable)
Lamanna; De Maio, Izzo, Burdisso; Laxalt, Costa, Rincon, Cissokho; Perotti, Pandev, Ntcham

Suspended: None

Juventus (probable)
Buffon; Sandro, Bonucci, Barzagli, Lichtsteiner; Cuadrado, Pogba, Hernanes; Pereyra; Dybala, Morata

Suspended: Rubinho

Juventus still Serie A favourites, insists Garcia

The Roma manager thinks that the reigning champions could still win
the league but conceded that the campaign will be more open this season.

http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/english-football/2015/09/19/15530792/-?

Sep 19, 2015

Roma coach Rudi Garcia feels Juventus remain the team to beat in Serie A this campaign, despite collecting just one point from their opening three fixtures.

The Turin side have dominated Serie A in recent seasons, clinching the last four titles, yet they have already fallen six points behind last season's runners-up Roma this term, while leaders Inter are eight points clear.

Garcia is not getting carried away, though, and has stressed that Roma cannot afford to lose focus if they are to stay clear of Juventus.

"Serie A will be more open this year, but I'm still of the opinion that Juventus are favourites," the Roma coach said at a press conference.

"We just want to continue our winning run against Sassuolo on Sunday and make it three in a row.

"We need to give everything on the pitch if we want a result. And we want to win."

Gasperini: 'Ignore Juve troubles'

http://www.football-italia.net/73193/gasperini-ignore-juve-troubles?

Sep 19, 2015

Gian Piero Gasperini told Genoa to ignore everything that came before Juventus. “They’re still the team to beat.”

It kicks off on Sunday at 15.00 CET.

“This must be treated as a one-off game, not thinking about the way they have started the campaign or what happened in this fixture last season,” said the Coach in a Press conference.

Last term the Grifone won this fixture 1-0 with a very late goal.

“Juve are a great side, second to no-one, and are still the team to beat. They did win the last four Scudetti, after all. They said that they want to start their Serie A season here in Genoa, so we’ll see what happens.

“We know the injury issues, as we haven’t had Mattia Perin, Ezequiel Munoz or Cristian Ansaldi available yet, plus we lost Tino Costa last weekend.

“Blerim Dzemaili has only been with us for two weeks and is working like all the others. We can only improve. We’ve created the chances over the last few games, but didn’t bring home the results.

“The keys to facing big clubs are intensity and organisation. Juve are aggressive too and don’t allow you to play. They’ve struggled so far, but the real Juventus is the one we saw against Manchester City.”

Genoa squad for Juventus

Juventus vs. Genoa Preview: Round 4 —
Now the fun begins ... hopefully

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/9/19/9343515/genoa-juventus-2015-serie-a-round-3-preview-team-news-schedule?

Sep 19, 2015

Juventus players and coaches viewed the post-international break set of games as the true start of their season. Basically, they told themselves they deserve a couple of mulligans, and now is the time where things truly get interesting. It was a good way to look at things, especially considering how those first two Serie A games went.

That new adventure officially kicked off Tuesday in Manchester with Juve's 2-1 come-from-behind win over the current English Premier League leaders. Just look at the joy on the faces of the players while they celebrated the go-ahead goal by Álvaro Morata. It wasn't just celebrating a goal. it was seemingly a release of all the early-season pressure go in an instant. They were enjoying their football again. And we were enjoying the show.

Yet, as we sit here four days after the fact, we're thinking to ourselves "What's next?"

This is the part that can be fun about Juventus playing well and getting a positive result against City. We want them to build off what they did in the Champions League. We know they know that they need to do so to turn this one-point-in-three-games start to the Serie A season around. Now it's just about going out and actually doing so.

You want to see the carryover from one game to the next. And you want to see that Tuesday night's win was more of something that gives us positive thoughts for the immediate future rather than it being just a one-off type of deal before going back into the early-season struggles.

With games coming fast and furious these days, there will be plenty of chances to make everybody forget about the way Juve have started the season. That is, if they actually start winning games in Serie A. Minor details, obviously.

JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen
.@OfficialAllegri: "Now we need to think about getting our heads down, quietly going about our business, and getting points on the board."

That sure would be nice. Especially with the schedule being so gosh-darn packed with games coming out of the international break.

GOOD NEWS

Two games ago, Juventus got their first point of the season! One game ago, Juventus got their first win of the season! You see, this is what we like to call progress. And progress is good.

BAD NEWS

No Claudio Marchisio, No Sami Khedira. No Kwadwo Asamoah. No Martin Caceres. Injuries are stupid.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

1. What formation will Max Allegri go with?

Conventional wisdom tells you "What worked against Manchester City should just stick around for a couple days as Juventus look to go forward." And hey, look at the lineup I want Juve to use. I'm all for it. But then you log onto the giornalaccio rosa website as you're starting to write this preview and you see this...

Screen_Shot_2015-09-18_at_3.27.12_PM.0.p

That's ... not what I was expecting. Certainly not a left wing of Alex Sandro and Patrice Evra. Certainly not a 4-4-2 formation. And certainly not a center of the midfield that only has Paul Pogba and Roberto Pereyra.

Is this a thing? Well, sure, I wouldn't doubt it. I didn't expect Allegri to roll out a 4-3-3 against Man City and he did exactly that. And with Juan Cuadrado playing so well right now, Allegri is obviously looking for ways to get the Colombian winger involved in things. Maybe Alex Sandro can play a more attack-minded role as a left-sided midfielder. We certainly know the dude can whip in a pretty good cross or two.

JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen
.@OfficialAllegri: "We could stick to the same system we used in Manchester or perhaps change things up a little. I'll decide today."

Of course you will, Max. Of course you will.

2. Paul Pogba's impact.

I feel safe in saying that much in the same fashion as the team as a whole, Tuesday night's win over Manchester City was Pogba's best game of the season. It's not even close, either. It was the Pogba of old, capped off by a wonderful assist to Mario Mandzukic for the game-tying goal. But, like the team as a whole, Pogba needs to build on it. And it really doesn't matter what formation Allegri goes with, either. Pogba will be the No. 1 guy in the midfield because of course he will be. With Claudio Marchisio out for the next month or so, that's what his role will continue to be. There's no doubting that if Juventus want to quickly reverse this sluggish start to the Serie A season, Pogba will play a big part in it. That's just what happens when you're one of the best — you're expected to play like it more often than not.

3. Álvaro Morata's impact.

Whether he's played as a winger in a 4-3-3 or a prima punta in (insert formation here), Morata's importance seems to be growing by the week. That's not due to the fact that every time he scores a goal this season he will be linked with a move back to Real Madrid next summer. (That stuff is stupid by the way and needs to end.) Now that he's back from his pre-season injury, Morata will surely be depended on to be the player he was a season ago — and probably better, too. He hasn't shown us that he can't handle that, either. He just scores important goal after important goal after important goal. Maybe we should just tell him every game is a Champions League game? That seems to be the trick, I guess.

And he's not buying into the Real Madrid talk, too — which is wonderful.

4. Juan Cuadrado's impact.

My gut feeling is that no matter what formation Allegri ends up choosing to go with against Genoa, Cuadrado will be included in it. So now that we've got that matter out of the way, we can talk about Cuadrado continuing to do what he's been doing in his short Juventus career thus far — playing really well. Cuadrado's first Juventus start was a very good one, and that's another indication that he's settling into life at Juve quite nicely already. Maybe it's the fact that he's back in Italy and at a club that is already showing they believe in him rather than burying him on their bench within two weeks, I dunno. Either way, Cuadrado is growing into this Juventus squad and it's quite clear that it's translating to on-field success. Makes me think the latest Beppe Marotta Special is working like a lot of the other ones.

My starting XI (4-3-3): Gianluigi Buffon; Stephan Lichtsteiner, Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci, Alex Sandro; Stefano Sturaro, Hernanes, Paul Pogba; Juan Cuadrado, Álvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala

Genoa - Juventus Preview: Our season
starts now, urges Morata

After inspiring the Bianconeri to victory in the Champions League in midweek,
the striker wants to help his side claim their first Serie A win of the season.

Alvaro Morata wants Juventus to send a statement of intent against Genoa on Sunday after a poor start to the defence of their Serie A crown.

Massimiliano Allegri's men have taken just one point from a possible nine in the league this season, losing ground on their title rivals and slumping to 16th in the table.

However, Allegri's men came alive in Europe on Tuesday as goals from Morata and Mario Mandzukic sealed a comeback victory over Premier League leaders Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The close-season sale of Carlos Tevez has allowed further opportunities for Morata this term and the Spaniard is eager for more success at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris this weekend.

"The most important thing is that it has allowed us to get a win we needed and that should be a starting point," Morata told Sky and Mediaset.

"Our season starts now. We know that if Juve play at our best and play as a team we can beat anyone.

"It's not going to be easy against Genoa, but we have to do everything to keep winning. We have to give everything.

"It will be a great game in which we have to give everything to move up the table, because we haven't started in the best way.

"I think that’s normal though, because there have been a lot of changes in the team."

Genoa inflicted one of Juve's three Serie A defeats last term - Luca Antonini's late winner claiming the points on home soil - but Giampiero Gasperini's men have won just one of their opening three matches.

Paul Pogba is a doubt after missing training on Thursday with flu and Genoa forward Goran Pandev hopes his side can take advantage.

"We played two good matches without points and we want to get them on Sunday in front of our fans," Pandev told Premium Sport.

"Juventus are the strongest team in Italy and that is a reason to give everything.

"We are still at the beginning of the season and not everyone is at 100 per cent fit, but we are working and following the coach."

Line-ups: Genoa-Juventus

http://www.football-italia.net/73218/line-ups-genoa-juventus?

Sep 20, 2015

Juventus beat Manchester City, but face a must-win game away to Genoa and give Mario Lemina his full debut.

It kicks off at 15.00 CET.

The Bianconeri got back on track midweek with a 2-1 Champions League victory at the Etihad, but have only one point from three Serie A rounds.

Coach Max Allegri warned this is already a crossroads for their campaign, so the pressure is on to get their first win at Marassi.

It’s historically a tough fixture for the Turin giants, as last season Luca Antonini’s last-gasp goal gave Genoa victory.

Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira, Kwadwo Asamoah and suspended Rubinho miss out, while Hernanes, Leonardo Bonucci and Hernanes are rested.

Instead, Lemina gets his first Serie A start after a transfer day move.

Genoa have an injury crisis, missing Mattia Perin, Serge Gakpe, Ezequiel Munoz, Tino Costa, Cristian Ansaldi and Leonardo Pavoletti.

Veteran hitman Goran Pandev is surprisingly benched, so Diego Capel supported by Diego Perotti and Manchester City-owned youngster Oliver Ntcham.

Genoa: Lamanna, Cissokho, Burdisso, De Maio, Izzo, Rincon, Dzemaili, Laxalt, Ntcham, Capel, Perotti

Juventus: Buffon, Lichtsteiner, Barzagli, Chiellini, Evra, Lemina, Sturaro, Pogba, Cuadrado, Mandzukic, Morata

Marotta: 'Very important match'

http://www.football-italia.net/73223/marotta-very-important-match?

Sep 20, 2015

Beppe Marotta acknowledges Juventus need a result in their “very important match” away to Genoa.

“We have to focus on our own campaign, which so far is not reassuring,” the general manager told Mediaset Premium.

“We must get back to winning ways in Serie A. Are Inter the favourites? They have a 100 per cent record and are top of the table, so obviously they have to be one of the potential winners.

“Juve are missing a victory, but it would be equally important in terms of self-belief. We did well in the Champions League, but have to confirm ourselves now. It is certainly a very important match.”

HT 0-1: Juve lead in Genoa

http://www.football-italia.net/73224/ht-lucky-juve-lead-genoa?

Sep 20, 2015

Juventus have taken a half-time lead away to 10-man Genoa thanks to a bizarre own goal.

The Bianconeri got back on track with a Champions League victory away to Manchester City this week, but still had only one point from three Serie A rounds and sat in the relegation zone. It was a must-win game and a fixture they lost last season.

Claudio Marchisio, Sami Khedira and Kwadwo Asamoah missed out, while the hosts were without Mattia Perin, Serge Gakpe, Ezequiel Munoz, Tino Costa, Cristian Ansaldi and Leonardo Pavoletti. Mario Lemina was surprisingly given his full debut.

Alvaro Morata’s curler was plucked out of the air within 23 seconds, while Diego Capel nodded a Diego Perotti cross just over the bar.

Mario Mandzukic set up a chance for Juan Cuadrado, but bad news when Morata limped off with a suspected thigh strain.

Patrice Evra nodded over from a Cuadrado assist and Blerim Dzemaili’s free kick whistled wide, but Juventus took the lead with a truly bizarre goal.

Pogba came sliding in to meet a Roberto Pereyra cross from the left, somehow only turned it on to the underside of the bar from point-blank range, but the ball bounced back in off goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna.

It got worse for Genoa, as Armando Izzo received his second yellow card for hauling down Cuadrado on the counter-attack.

Pogba blasted over and Pereyra should’ve either scored or set up Mandzukic in first half stoppages, but managed neither.

Genoa 0-2 Juventus: Pogba struts stuff as
Bianconeri get first win of Serie A season

After three games without a victory, Massimiliano Allegri's men defeated the hosts
- who had a man down for much of the match - thanks to the Frenchman's efforts.

Sep 20, 2015

Paul Pogba returned to fitness just in time to inspire Juventus to their first Serie A win of the season as they ran out 2-0 winners against 10-man Genoa.

The France international recovered from a bout of flu shortly before the game and had a hand in the first goal before scoring Juventus’ second to make it two wins in a week for Massimiliano Allegri’s men.

Pogba crashed a shot onto the crossbar that hit goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna and bounced into the net in the first half, and he grabbed his first goal of the season from the penalty spot on the hour mark.

Genoa, who had Armando Izzo sent off for two bookable first-half offences, endured a calamitous afternoon as they suffered their first home defeat of the season against the champions.

The game turned on key decisions by referee Paolo Valeri, and Genoa coach Gian Piero Gasperini may feel hard done by after his side were left with nothing for their efforts.

Allegri, meanwhile, was left with injury concerns after Alvaro Morata and Mario Mandzukic both limped off. Following their Champions League victory over Manchester City, Juventus were keen to inject some impetus into their Serie A campaign, which had seen them claim just one point from a possible nine.

Morata thumped a half-volley into the arms of Lamanna after just two minutes as the champions started with real intent, but Genoa quickly rallied and began to press the visitors.

Pogba was caught in possession on the edge of his own penalty area, allowing Diego Perotti to tee up Diego Capel for a header that flew narrowly over the crossbar.

Mandzukic and Juan Cuadrado began to create space with incisive runs and neat link-up play, but Juventus showed signs that they lack a target in the final third in the absence of Carlos Tevez, who left for Boca Juniors during the close-season.

Morata limped off with a groin injury after 22 minutes and Genoa began to look the more likely side to make a breakthrough, with Blerim Dzemaili whipping a free-kick narrowly wide.

But Juventus took the lead when Morata's replacement Roberto Pereyra flashed the ball across the face of goal, where Pogba was sliding in, and the France midfielder’s shot struck the crossbar before bouncing down and into the net off the thighs of the hapless Lamanna.

Genoa might have hoped to regroup at half-time, but Gasperini's plans suffered a hammer blow when Izzo was sent off for a second bookable offence after he was judged to have pulled back Cuadrado.

The hosts reorganised and battled hard to make the second half competitive, but extra space and a man advantage allowed Pereyra and Cuadrado to stretch their patched-up defence.

Disaster struck again for Genoa when Giorgio Chiellini was judged to have been fouled as he came together with Mario Lemina and referee Valeri pointed to the penalty spot.

Pogba coolly slotted the penalty low into the corner of the net for his first goal of the season, while Genoa were left stunned, 2-0 down and reduced to 10 men, despite having made few mistakes and matching their opponents for much of the game. But they mustered little more as Juventus coasted to victory in the end.

It got worse for Genoa, as Armando Izzo received his second yellow card for hauling down Cuadrado on the counter-attack.

Pogba blasted over and Pereyra should’ve either scored or set up Mandzukic in first half stoppages, but managed neither.

Cuadrado’s angled drive was off target and Diogo Figueiras blocked off Mandzukic from a Pereyra back-heel.

The referee pointed to the spot for Diogo’s clumsy trip on Giorgio Chiellini. Genoa argued he hadn’t even seen Chiellini, but Pogba stepped up to convert the penalty low into the near bottom corner.

Mandzukic failed to make the most of a Sebastien De Maio error, while Panagiotis Tachtsidis and Cuadrado were off target.

Simone Zaza finally made his Juventus debut and was promptly booked.

Genoa: Lamanna; Cissokho, Burdisso, De Maio; Izzo, Rincon, Dzemaili (Pandev 57), Laxalt; Ntcham, Capel (Tachtsidis 65), Perotti (Diogo 46)

Juventus: Buffon, Lichtsteiner, Barzagli, Chiellini, Evra, Lemina (Hernanes 76), Sturaro, Pogba, Cuadrado, Mandzukic (Zaza 83), Morata (Pereyra 22)

Genoa 0-2 Juventus: Bianconeri Claim First
League Win Over 10-Men Rossoblu

Juventus defeated Genoa 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday afternoon in Serie A, gaining their first league win of the season.

The Old Lady took the lead through an unlucky own goal by Genoa goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna before the hosts’ game went from bad to worse as defender Armando Izzo was sent off. The second-half was no different in terms of tension levels in the game as the reigning Italian champions doubled their lead thanks to Paul Pogba penalty.

Excellent strength from Olivier Ntcham meant the hosts had the first opportunity of the match, with his movement leading to a cross from the left hand side but it ended with a Diego Capel header flying just over the bar.

Juventus were the first to draw blood thanks to a very unfortunate own goal from Genoa keeper Lamanna. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time when Paul Pogba’s effort from a few yards out struck the crossbar and rebounded out, but only into the chest of the 26-year-old, who directed it back to goal.

A feisty first-half concluded with the Rossoblu going down to 10-men, after defender Armando Izzo’s tug on Juan Cuadrado gave him his second yellow card of the game.

The second-half had the save levels of tension as the first, with Juventus doubling their lead on the hour mark through a controversial penalty, converted by Pogba following a foul on Giorgio Chiellini.

Bologna began to find their feet properly in the final 15 minutes and Panagiotis Tachtsidis had a shot from the outside of the box, but it travelled too high above Gianluigi Buffon in the Juventus goal.

The visitors held on and claimed their first three points of the season, meaning they now sit in 12th place in the league table while Genoa are in 15th.

Juventus ease past Genoa

Juventus won for the first time in Serie A this season after beating 10-man Genoa 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris this afternoon.

Alvaro Morata tried his luck in the opening minute for the visitors with a powerful volley from the edge of the box that was held by Eugenio Lamanna.

Juventus' French midfielder Paul Pogba celebrates after scoring a goal during the Italian Serie A football match between Genoa and Juventus on September 20, 2015

Genoa soon began to see more of the ball and they threatened for the first time when Diego Capel arrived to meet a cross from Diego Perotti, but he could not keep his header down.

Juventus were then dealt a blow as Morata picked up an injury and had be replaced by Roberto Pereyra.

Moments later Paul Pogba curled a free kick over the bar and Patrice Evra headed another set piece off target, as the Old Lady started to provide more of an attacking threat.

The visitors made their pressure pay by taking the lead in the 36th minute as Pogba latched onto Pereyra's cross at the back post, and saw his effort hit the bar, before the ball rebounded off Lamanna and ended up in the back of the net.

Genoa were dealt another blow shortly before the break as Armando Izzo hauled down Juan Cuadrado and was sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the match.

It was Cuadrado who threatened for Juventus at the start of the second half, with a powerful low drive from outside the box that sailed inches wide of the far post.

The Bianconeri were then given the chance to double their lead after Giorgio Chiellini was brought down inside the box by Diogo Figueiras and the referee pointed to the spot.

Pogba stepped up to take the resulting penalty and made no mistake with a composed finish after Lamanna had dived the wrong way.

Juventus continued to dominate and Mario Mandzukic came close to scoring his first league goal for the club when he raced into the box and saw his shot from a tight angle kept out by Lamanna.

Simone Zaza came off the bench and soon found the back of the net with a powerful drive from just outside the box, but the goal was ruled out for offside as Juventus held on to take the points.

Sep 20, 2015

Juventus picked up their first Serie A victory of the season with a 2-0 triumph at 10-man Genoa on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors were fortunate to break the deadlock in the 37th minute when Paul Pogba's close-range strike hit the crossbar and the ball bounced off Genoa goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna and went in.

Genoa suffered a further blow six minutes later when defender Armando Izzo was sent off for a second yellow card.

Pogba then doubled Juve's lead from the penalty spot on the hour after Genoa's Diogo Figueiras brought down Giorgio Chiellini in the box.

The home side failed to test Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon throughout the encounter and suffered their third loss of the campaign.

With only one point from their opening three matches, Juventus gained a boost in confidence with a 2-1 Champions League triumph at Manchester City on Tuesday.

Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri fielded the same attack that won their Group D opener at the Etihad Stadium, with Juan Cuadrado playing alongside Alvaro Morata and Mario Mandzukic.

It took just 23 seconds for the visitors to make their mark at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Morata threatened with a right-footed shot from the edge of the Genoa box that was saved by Lamanna.

Genoa went close in the 12th minute, when Diego Capel's powerful header from Diego Perotti's cross went over the bar.

Juve could have taken the lead three minutes later.

Mandzukic fed Cuadrado in the box and the Colombian forward struck a right-footed shot that was blocked by Izzo.

The visitors were forced to make their first substitution midway through the first half with Roberto Pereyra replacing an injured Morata, before Juve went in front in the 37th minute.

Pogba got behind Pereyra's cross and his close-range shot hit the crossbar and then Lamanna before going in and things got even worse for Genoa before the interval as Izzo was sent off for a late challenge on Cuadrado.

In the 52nd minute, Cuadrado's long-range went wide and the referee then pointed to the spot after Chiellini went down in the area after contact from Figueiras.

Pogba struck a right-footed shot towards the centre of goal to beat Lamanna.

In the 69th minute, Mandzukic almost scored his team's third but saw Lamanna save his left-footed strike from eight yards. The Italian champions did not extend their lead but nevertheless got their Serie A campaign up and running with a first victory.

Allegri: 'Juve defended well'

nmkg9d.jpg

http://www.football-italia.net/73229/allegri-juve-defended-well?

Sep 20, 2015

Max Allegri is pleased about Juventus’ 2-0 win over Genoa, but warns: ‘Our game has to improve’.

The Bianconeri began to rectify their terrible start to the season with a rather lucky victory against the Grifone, and their Coach believes the win is disconnected from their Champions League campaign.

“Our result against Manchester City would have been the same even if we hadn’t won today,” he told Mediaset after the game.

“Today we won a game by being careful, defending with order, but we could have done better when we were playing eleven against ten.

“It’s an important victory, now we’re going to try and creep up towards the top three.

“Today we created some important opportunities but they were wasted because of a bad final pass. Our game has to improve.

“We have ten new players, I can’t expect the team to be attack-minded. Keeping a clean sheet was important, we hadn’t done that since [the 2-0 victory against Lazio in the Supercup final in] Shanghai.”

Striker Alvaro Morata had to walk off the pitch with an injury.

“He felt some pain, we’ll see what’s wrong. We have Zaza, Dybala, we need people to be willing to sacrifice themselves and play as a team.

“Morata had something to his abdominal muscle, it’s a bit strange.

“Mandzukic had some cramps and his muscles stiffened at the back, fortunately we have a lot of strikers and the others will play.”

Player Ratings: Genoa 0-2 Juventus

2w55zbq.jpg

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/player-ratings-genoa-0-2-juventus/?

Sep 20, 2015

Juventus gained their first victory in Serie A after four tries thanks to an own goal and a penalty, at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

After 37 minutes of a balanced match, a shot from Pogba first hit the post and then bounced off Genoa’s goalkeeper Lamanna.

The first goal cut Genoa off from the match, as five minutes later they ended up one man down as Izzo got sent off with two yellow cards. In the second half a generous penalty called in favour of Chiellini allowed Pogba to score his first penalty in Serie A and secure the victory for Juventus.

Genoa

Eugenio Lamanna – 6 – Unlucky - The own goal is pure chance, as the ball bounces on him. Concentrated during the rest of the match.

Issa Cissokho – 5 – Bad - Constantly surpassed on his side by Cuadrado and not very present in attack. After Izzo was sent off played in the centre.

Nicolas Burdisso – 5.5 – Busy - Tried as much as he could to stop Juventus’ attacks but in vain.

Sebastian De Maio – 5 – Insecure - On his side Pereyra did almost everything he wanted. Made an horrendous pass in the second half that almost gave Juventus the third goal.

Armando Izzo – 5 – Naive - Cuadrado drove him crazy for all the first half and after two evident fouls he is sent off at the 43rd minute.

Tomas Rincon – 5.5 – Jolly - Not very present and his bad pass was the origin of Figueiras’ penalty.

Blerim Dzemaili – 5.5. – Confused - Few memorable plays, including a good free kick in the first half. Apart from that, he didn’t leave a mark on the pitch. Replaced by Pandev after 57 minutes.

Diego Laxalt – 6 – Lively - One of the few to resist the pressure of Juventus. Positive also in attack, where he had some good moments with Tachtsidis.

Olivier Ntcham – 6.5 – Surprise - The young Frenchman continues with his impressive start of the season, playing well even in an unfamiliar position.

Diego Capel – 6 – Retrieved - Showed himself to be in a good condition for the first time this season.

Diego Perotti – 6.5 – Pillar - He is the source of all Genoa’s play but didn’t manage to leave a lasting mark. Out after the first half for Figueiras.

Substitutes

Diogo Figueiras – 5.5 – Dangerous
- Replaced Perotti after the first half. Caused the penalty for 0-2.

Goran Pandev – 5.5 – Harmless - Replaced Dzemaili after 57 minutes. Good movements but nothing really dangerous.

Panagiotis Tachtsidis – 6 – Positive - Replaced Diego Capel after 65 minutes. Had a positive impact on the match creating two dangerous chances for himself and Laxalt.

Juventus

Gianluigi Buffon – 6 – Relaxed - Didn’t have many shots to save.

Stephan Lichtsteiner – 6 – Push - He played well but not memorably. Had more to defend than attack.

Andrea Barzagli – 6.5 – Dedicated - Usual good defence and perfect command of the defensive game of Juventus.

Giorgio Chiellini – 6 – Risky - He is often risking to be booked or to concede a penalty but is hard to pass and gained the penalty for 2-0.

Patrice Evra – 6.5 – Solid - A good match, concentrated in defence and dangerous in attack.

Stefano Sturaro – 6 – Strong - Less present than Tuesday in the Champions League but nonetheless played with confidence.

Mario Lemina – 5.5 – Rookie - In his debut with Juventus, the former Marseille player is a bit too impetuous. Some sparks of an interesting player though. Substituted after 75 minutes for Hernanes.

Paul Pogba – 6.5 – Scorer - The two goals have their mark. However, he hit the bar on the first goal and in general tried to hard for the trick rather than playing with substance. On the way to come back as the star player Juventus desperately need him to be.

Juan Cuadrado – 7 – Whirlwind - He is everywhere. Izzo went crazy trying to stop him. Almost all the offensive play of Juventus started with him.

Mario Mandzukic – 5.5 – Slow - He is too out of the game and looked slow. Replaced by Zaza after 82 minutes.

Alvaro Morata – 6 – Injured - Started well but after 20 minutes he was out injured.

Substitutes

Roberto Pereyra – 6.5 – Twelfth-man
- Replaced Morata after 22 minutes. With his pace and technique he was a constant danger for Genoa. Made the cross for Pogba that led to the goal.

Hernanes N/A - Replaced Lemina after 75 minutes.

Simone Zaza N/A - Replaced Mandzukic after 82 minutes.

Allegri: Juventus Deserved To Beat Genoa

Sep 20, 2015

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri believes his side’s win over Genoa was well deserved.

The Bianconeri picked up their first victory of the 2015-16 Serie A season with a 2-0 win over 10-man Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday afternoon, with an unlucky own goal from the Rossoblu keeper opening the scoring before Paul Pogba successfully converted a penalty.

“Today we played a careful game, we defended in an orderly manner without conceding a shot on goal,” Allegri told reporters after the game.

“We could have done better, but the team deserved to win.

“We will now try to reach the top three.”

Following the victory, Juventus are 12th in the league table while Genoa sit 15th.

La Vecchia Signora’s next game is on Wednesday night when they host Frosinone.

Genoa

23 E. Lamanna - Could do little about his unfortunate own goal and was beaten by a wonderful penalty from Pogba.

90 I. Cissokho - Looked largely solid at both ends of the pitch but was beaten too easily by Pereyra for Juventus’ opening goal.

8 N. Burdisso - Arguably the best of the Genoa defenders. Remained composed after the dismissal of Izzo and continued to look strong right up until the end.

4 S. De Maio - Looked solid alongside Burdisso to keep a determined Juventus away and limit them to only two goals.

5 A. Izzo - Was arguably one of Genoa’s best defenders during the first half before a clumsy last-ditch challenge on Cuadrado resulted in a second yellow card just before half-time.

88 T. Rincón - Put in a commanding display in the centre of the pitch, particularly when defending deep to protect his back three.

31 B. Džemaili - Was off the pace and failed to make much of an impact in the middle of the pitch, where he often came off second best to Pogba.

93 D. Laxalt - Looked bright down the left flank during a first half in which he showed plenty of attacking intent, but that changed after Izzo’s red card and he was forced onto the back foot. However, he defended brilliantly to keep Lichtsteiner quiet.

18 J. Ntcham - Impressed during the first half and looked bright in front of goal but Izzo’s red card forced him to sit deeper, where he struggled to find much joy.

16 Capel - Started well and looked bright on the ball but quickly faded and was too often caught in possession.

10 D. Perotti - Found it difficult to find much joy down the left flank, despite a few moments of neat link-up play with Laxalt, and was removed at half-time.

Substitutes

11 Diogo Figueiras
- Came on for Perotti at half-time and overall put in a strong performance but gave away a penalty when his outstretched foot caught Chiellini.

21 G. Pandev - Had a few bright moments after replacing Dzemaili but overall failed to find much joy in front of goal.

77 P. Tachtsidis - Added a sense of attacking urgency to a tiring Genoa side and played an important role whenever they pushed forward towards the end of the game.

Juventus

1 G. Buffon - Had very little to do, particularly after Genoa were reduced to 10 men, but was nonetheless impressive when called upon to act.

26 S. Lichtsteiner - Was involved in a brilliant battle with Laxalt and looked bright when attacking, particularly in the second half.

15 A. Barzagli - Didn’t put a foot wrong in the middle of a Juventus defence that remained resolute and well-organised from start to finish.

3 G. Chiellini - Put in a strong display in the Juventus back four to frustrate Genoa’s forward line and did well to win his side a penalty at the other end of the pitch.

33 P. Evra - Never looked like being beaten down the left flank and, as a result, enjoyed a very comfortable afternoon.

27 S. Sturaro - Put in a solid if unspectacular performance in the middle of the pitch to frustrate the Genoa front line.

18 M. Lemina - Showed several bright signs of his first Juventus start and was an important component in the middle of the pitch.

10 P. Pogba - Played a vital role in both goals, as it was his close-range volley that hit Lamanna before rolling into the back of the net before he doubled his side’s lead with a well-struck penalty in the second half.

16 Juan Cuadrado - Started slowly but burst into life midway through the first half and was absolutely excellent from then onwards as he caused the Genoa defence continual problems with his pace and skill.

17 M. Mandžukić - It was a disappointing afternoon for the striker, who looked bereft of confidence in front of goal and failed to take advantage of several good opportunities.

9 Álvaro Morata - Looked bright at the start of the game but was unfortunately forced off the pitch due to a nasty-looking injury after just 22 minutes.

Substitutes

37 R. Pereyra
- Was excellent after replacing the injured Morata and set up his side’s opening goal with a brilliant cross-cum-shot. From then onwards, he was arguably one of the best Juventus' players.

11 Hernanes - Came on late on but failed to make much of an impact.

7 S. Zaza - Featured late on but failed to find much joy in his short time on the pitch.

Allegri: 'Inter Scudetto favourites'

Max Allegri calls Inter the ‘first candidate alongside Roma and Juventus’ to win the Scudetto, but he won't 'step aside'.

The standings after Week 4 of Serie A see Inter leading the table with a full 12 points, as Roma, Milan and the Bianconeri trail at 8, 6 and 4 points respectively.

“Inter are the first candidates alongside Roma and Juventus,” said Allegri after today’s 2-0 victory against Genoa.

“The Scudetto is determined by the standings, and they’ve won four games.

“They’re doing well, but right now it’s senseless to talk of the scudetto. Let’s be realistic.

“Inter are solid and a candidate for the final victory, but I’m not going to step aside.

“Garcia is doing the opposite of what he did last year. The truth of the matter is that Inter are first and the favourites, while Roma are there and fighting for it.

“As for ourselves, we gathered a nice victory to leave the bottom of the standings.”

Allegri then went on to discuss the individual players in today’s game.

“Pogba did what he is meant to do. Lemina was chosen with a view to today’s physical game.

“Hernanes burned a lot of energy against Chievo and Manchester City and I was at risk of losing him too, so I decided to rest him.

“Zaza came in today, I have many players and he has to integrate himself. He’ll get some playing time too.

“The counter-attack? Those were tecnica errors on our side. We must improve in possession too, when we were up by a man we should have played the ball after a certain amount of passes, but not three.”

In Win Over Genoa

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini believes that his team showed their experience in their 2-0 win over Genoa on Sunday.

The Old Lady secured their first win of the 2015-16 Serie A season at the Marassi with their goals coming through a Eugenio Lamanna own goal and a Paul Pogba penalty.

“We have had a bad start, today we left with a good win and it was a great test of our maturity against an opponent who will beat many teams at home,” said Chiellini to Mediaset Premium.

“We were not rushed, we think about every game with great calmness. On Wednesday, against Frosinone, we will try to continue the momentum we have.”

The Bianconeri now have four points from four games this season after losing their first two games of the season, and then drawing at home to Chievo.

Juventus are back, says Allegri

The coach was happy with his side's first league win of the campaign
and believes they will continue to climb back up the table.

Massimiliano Allegri is confident Juventus are on their way back to the top of the table after they picked up their first Serie A win of the season on Sunday.

The Bianconeri beat 10-man Genoa 2-0 to climb up the table after picking up just one point in their first three matches of the campaign.

The reigning champions are now eight points behind league leaders Inter and while Allegri feels the San Siro club and Roma are genuine contenders this year, he insists his team are still one of the top teams in the league.

"I always said that Inter are the favorites along with Roma and Juventus, but looking at the standings today, we are back," he said.

"Everyone is going through the motions: Garcia is saying we are the favourites - the opposite of what he said last year.

"We won because we played carefully and defended in an orderly fashion and we have suffered just one shot on goal. It is a well-deserved win, now we have to gradually get closer to the front runners.

"There are 10 new players, so I cannot expect perfection right away. We did not concede a goal and that was important.

"But we must improve how we manage the ball, especially when it's 11 against 10. We should have lowered the pace after Genoa's red card and then speed it up, instead we hurried too much and wanted to hit a shot after two or three moves."

Pogba: Juventus more of a team
without Vidal, Tevez & Pirlo

The midfielder feels the Serie A champions do not rely on individual skill
as much as they did last season and is happy the club have put a lot of faith in him.

Paul Pogba feels Juventus are not missing summer departures Arturo Vidal, Carlos Tevez and Andrea Pirlo this season because they play more as a team without them.

The trio departed in the transfer window as the Serie A champions underwent many changes ahead of the current campaign.

Pogba struggled to find his best form in the opening weeks of the season, but had a hand in both of his side's goals as they beat Genoa 2-0 on Sunday and he feels the team work has increased this term.

"With Carlos, Arturo and Andrea we could rely on individual moments of brilliance. Now we play more as a team," Pogba told the club's official website.

The 22-year-old took over the number 10 shirt from Tevez following the latter's return to Boca Juniors, thus following in the footsteps of compatriot Michel Platini, and he is determined to honour the jersey.

"Taking on the number 10 is to follow in the footsteps of Michel Platini and several other Juventus greats. It's very important that I honour the shirt on the pitch, the club has shown a lot of faith in me," he added.

"I need to keep working on my game, both in terms of build-up play and my runs off the ball. I need to put in strong performances both for the benefit of myself and that of the side."

Juve's win over Genoa was their first in Serie A this campaign and the France international has urged his team-mates to keep it up in the weeks to come.

"We haven't achieved anything yet. Until today we had just one point in the table, now we've four. We're happy with the win, but we need to keep picking up results.

"We're just concentrating on ourselves right now. There's a long way to go between now and May."
