Lippi: ‘Don’t write-off Juventus’

http://www.football-italia.net/72739/lippi-‘don’t-write-juventus’?

Sep 9, 2015

Marcello Lippi warns it would be ‘a glaring error’ to write-off Juventus after only two games.

The Bianconeri have lost their first two games for the first time since the foundation of Serie A, but their legendary former Coach warns against talk of a crisis.

“Anyone who thinks Juve have lost their hunger or are in crisis is making a glaring error,” Lippi cautioned in an interview with giornalaccio rosa dello Sport.

“They’ll fight to the end to win their fifth consecutive Scudetto.

“They’ve changed a lot? True, but their solid core has remained. Buffon, Bonucci, Chiellini, Barzagli and Marchisio will help the new faces.

“Don’t read too much into the results from the first two games. Without Khedira, Marchisio and Morata it wasn’t the real Juve. The team is strong.

“Hernanes could work well, Dybala is a great talent and I’ve heard good things about Alex Sandro. Don’t write-off Mandzukic either, so far he hasn’t had the right service.

“Then there’s Asamoah to come back.”

Lippi, who won five Scudetti and the Champions League in two spells with the Old Lady does see another side in the division as a serious rival.

“Roma are almost on par. The Giallorossi have made two or three important signings. Dzeko is the central striker they needed.

“I was also impressed with how easily Digne slotted in. What personality!

“Totti’s role? It’s a delicate situation. Totti can still change the game with one shot. He and [Coach Rudi] Garcia must establish a clear relationship, however.

“Totti can’t play forever, and as an intelligent person he knows that very well, but he also can’t miss four or five games in a row.

“Roma must assure him space, which won’t be lacking between the League and the Champions League.

“Roma and Juventus have not been lucky in the draw [for the Champions League], but they’ll go through. I’m expecting a big test for the Bianconeri against Manchester City.”

Hernanes: 'We must start winning'

http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/juventus/news/hernanes-we-must-start-winning_245080.html

Sep 9, 2015

Juventus midfielder Hernanes has insisted that the Old Lady must start winning matches following a disappointing start to the season.

The Serie A champions have lost both of their first two league games of the new campaign, which has left them already six points off the pace.

Hernanes, however, who joined Juve from Inter in the summer, is confident that his team will be ready for this weekend's clash against Chievo.

"There are two things to talk about. If we're talking about the level we play at, then it might take some time to know each other and do things by heart. However, in terms of the results, there are no excuses and we have to start picking up three points," Hernanes told Sky Sports News.

"We're ready, we've been working well in the last few days. I think we've reached a good level of physical condition, and we're ready."

Juventus have won the Italian league in each of the last four seasons.

Juventus V Chievo – Preview: Flying Donkeys Out
To Maintain Perfect Start Against Under Pressure Bianconeri

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/juventus-v-chievo-preview-flying-donkeys-out-to-maintain-perfect-start-against-under-pressure-bianconeri/?

Sep 10, 2015

Juventus host league leaders Chievo at the Juventus Stadium on Saturday evening in round three of Serie A, with both sides heading into the fixture on the back of polar opposite starts to the new campaign.

To the surprise of many the Bianconeri sit in 17th position, with the Turin giants suffering back-to-back defeats against Udinese 1-0 at home on the opening day, and last time out, a 2-1 away loss to title rivals Roma.

The Flying Donkeys on the other hand could not have dreamed of a better start to their season, as they sit pretty at the top of Serie A after beating Empoli 3-1 at away on the opening day, and followed that up in round two by trashing Lazio 4-1 at the Stadio Bentegodi with Alberto Paloschi bagging a brace for the home team.

Juve will be hoping history is on their side as they look to continue their dominance over Saturday’s opponents, after doing the double over Rolando Maran’s men last season. The Bianconeri won 1-0 away on the opening day of the 2014/2015 season and followed that up with a 2-0 victory in January with second half goals from Paul Pogba and Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Those two victories for the Bianconeri continued a run of six straight wins in a row against this weekend’s visitors, and you have to go back five and a half years since the Gialloblu took all three points from Juve. On that occasion Chievo won 1-0 at the Stadio Bentegodi, in January 2010, with Gennaro Sardo netting the winner in the first half.

The overall record since 2001 between the sides doesn’t make good reading for the team from Verona, with the Old Lady coming out on top with 17 wins, six draws and that solitary loss in 24 meetings being the only blip since the turn of the century for Juve.

New Juventus signings Alex Sandro and Hernanes are expected to make their home debut for the Bianconeri, who have a near full strength squad to pick from with just Sami Khedira and Kwadwo Asamoah ruled out through injury. Rubinho and Patrice Evra are suspended.

Serbian international Ivan Radovanovic is Chievo’s only major absentee through injury. Dario Dainelli is expected to take the place of Alessandro Gamberini in defence in the only change expected from the team that defeated Lazio in round two.

Form Guide: Juventus (L-L), Cheivo (W-W)

Expected Starting XI’s

Juventus: Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Sturaro, Marchisio, Pogba; Hernanes; Mandzukic, Dybala.

Chievo: Bizzarri; Gobbi, Dainelli, Cesar, Frey; Hetemaj, Rigoni, Birsa, Castro; Paloschi, Meggiorini.

Juventus Encounter Does Not
Intimidate Chievo Striker Paloschi

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/juventus-encounter-does-not-intimidate-chievo-striker-paloschi/?

Sep 10, 2015

Chievo striker Alberto Paloschi says he is not afraid of facing Juventus at their home stadium on Saturday evening and his side will do all they can to make life difficult for the Bianconeri.

The Gialloblu will make the trip to Turin as current league leaders, having won their opening two games of the Serie A season, whilst the reigning Italian champions have lost both of theirs. Despite this however, Paloschi still believes that Juve are one of the strongest sides in Serie A.

“It’s strange to face Juventus in this position,” said the 25-year-old in an interview with Tuttosport.com.

“I can only say that Chievo’s objective is still to avoid relegation and these six points from the start of the season will be invaluable.”

He continued: “Juve? They are still the team to beat despite their troublesome start.”

“As for the Juventus stadium, even with the close proximity and enthusiasm of the fans, it does not scare me.

“We will give everything to make life difficult for the Bianconeri.”

Ravanelli: Juventus And Roma Are
Still The Best Serie A Teams

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/ravanelli-juventus-and-roma-are-still-the-best-serie-a-teams/?

Sep 10, 2015

Former Juventus striker Fabrizio Ravanelli says the Bianconeri, along with Roma, are still the teams for the rest of Serie A to beat this season.

The Perugia-born forward represented the Old Lady for four years between 1992 and 1996 and helped the club lift the Champions League in 1996, making 160 appearances, while scoring 68 goals during his spell in Turin.

“Juventus are playing badly at the moment, but have the potential to recover in the match against Chievo on Saturday,” Ravanelli told TuttoMercatoWeb.com.

“They are not a club that panic in these situations.

“Although the start has never being so black, losing the first two games is not usual for Juventus.

“Unfortunately, the team has not hit its true potential yet and have missed Claudio Marchisio, and there are other extenuating circumstances.

“Of course they must return to winning ways but with the knowledge of having to work again and again.”

The former Marseille striker was asked to comment about the Bianconeri’s moves in the summer transfer market and who can challenge his former side for the Scudetto.

“It’s not easy to make judgements about it”, he added.

“I think Juventus have worked to take good players like Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Sami Khedira, although they failed to sign Julian Draxler.

“But the have what it takes to win the league again this season.

“Together with Roma they are the sides for the rest to beat.”

Dybala: You Have To Win
When You Play For Juventus

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/dybala-you-have-to-win-when-you-play-for-juventus/?

Sep 10, 2015

Juventus striker Paulo Dybala says that there is a completely different mentality at the Bianconeri compared to his former side Palermo.

The 21-year-old joined the Old Lady from the Rosanero in June, in a deal which could eventually cost the club up to €40 million for the former Instituto de Corboba forward.

“In Palermo, the objectives were different,” Dybala told JTV.

“Here you have to win everywhere, at all stages, and in Europe do as well as last season.

“I get a lot of help from my teammates, they recommend how to do things on the pitch.

“Gianluigi Buffon and Claudio Marchisio give me tips before the games.”

The Bianconeri face Chievo on Saturday after suffering two defeats in the opening two rounds of the season and the Argentine is hoping that results will improve, starting with this weekend.

“It will be a tough game against Chievo, they have won their first two games,” he added.

“They are ready and will come here looking to win.

“We have worked well, and now we’re all here and we’re fine and ready for the match on Saturday.”

The former Palermo striker is keen to improve his game and is determined to develop new skills to help him become a success in Turin and also thanked the fans for such a huge welcome to his new club.

“I’m working on holding up the ball, playing on the right side of attack and increasing my physical fitness,” he added.

“I’m a different player from the one last season and I’m always looking to improve my game in any way I can.”

“I’ve had a fantastic welcome in Turin from the fans in the street to everyone at the club.

“They’ve really made me feel at home. I can’t wait to turn out again in front of our home support this Saturday.

“Making my debut at the ground was a fantastic feeling. With everyone so close to the pitch, it makes for a special atmosphere.”

Paulo Dybala: 'Juventus can still
prove title credentials'

http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/juventus/news/dybala-we-can-prove-title-credentials_245358.html

Sep 11, 2015

Juventus forward Paulo Dybala has insisted that the Old Lady can still prove themselves as title contenders despite a tough start to the new campaign.

The Italian club ran away with the Serie A crown last season, but have found progress hard to come by at the start of the new campaign having lost important games to both Udinese and Roma to leave them 17th in the table.

The club's 21-year-old forward does, however, believe that his team can turn their fortunes around with a victory over Chievo this weekend.

"We are in peak condition and we're determined to show that we are capable of retaining the Scudetto this year," Dybala told the club's official TV channel.

"Chievo will make for a tough game, but we're all pumped up for it and we have got our eyes firmly set on winning the contest."

Dybala made the switch to Juve from Palermo this summer, after scoring 13 goals for the Eagles last season.

Juventus vs. Chievo: Team News, Predicted Lineups

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2563646-juventus-vs-chievo-team-news-predicted-lineups-live-stream-tv-info?

Sep 11, 2015

As Serie A returns from the international break, Juventus Stadium plays host to the strangest of top-versus-bottom clashes. The home side, following disappointing losses to AS Roma and Udinese have yet to register a point in 2015/16, while Chievo arrive in Turin with the maximum six points.

Indeed, the Veronese side have been hugely impressive, beginning the campaign with a 3-1 victory over Empoli and following that up with a 4-0 rout of Lazio. Coach Rolando Maran arrived in October, helping them avoid relegation once again as they steadily climbed the table to finish in 14th place.

His tactics saw them remain a dour and functional side, but one that proved hugely difficult to score against—only Juve, Roma and Lazio conceded fewer goals than their tally of 41 last term.

OptaPaolo ✔ @OptaPaolo
3 - Chievo Verona have scored the most headed goals so far in Serie A, three: they had netted five in the whole last season. Growth.

Yet, they struggled at the opposite end of the field, netting just 28 times, which was the lowest total in Serie A by some distance. It remains to be seen if they can maintain their explosive start, and La Madama has long been a difficult opponent for Chievo, who have lost their last six meetings with the Old Lady.

The Bianconeri will be looking to improve their own fortunes, with a number of new signings added to the side and some familiar faces returning from injury. Coach Massimiliano Allegri will hope those two factors lead to a dramatic change in performance as they prepare for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Manchester City.

Predicted Formations

Juventus (4-3-1-2):

Gigi Buffon; Stephan Lichtsteiner, Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Stefano Sturaro, Claudio Marchisio, Paul Pogba; Hernanes; Alvaro Morata, Paulo Dybala

Unavailable: Sami Khedira (injured), Kwadwo Asamoah (injured), Patrice Evra (suspended), Rubinho (suspended)

Chievo (4-4-2):

Albano Bizzarri; Nicolas Frey, Dario Dainelli, Bostjan Cesar, Massimo Gobbi; Valter Birsa, Nicola Rigoni, Perparim Hetemaj, Lucas Castro; Alberto Paloschi, Riccardo Meggiorini

Unavailable: Ivan Radovanovic (injured)

Player to Watch

The clear danger man for Juventus to watch on Saturday is Alberto Paloschi, one of the most underrated and unappreciated strikers in Serie A. The 25-year-old began his career with Milan, growing up in their youth sector before making his debut in February 2008, scoring almost immediately.

Struggling to find space with the Rossoneri, however, he would move on to Parma, where he netted 12 goals in the following campaign. A subsequent switch to Genoa failed to see him shine, and he was sent to Chievo ahead of the 2011/12 season, his first two years there passing him by.

But 2013/14 saw Paloschi finally deliver on his obvious early promise, netting 15 times, and he bagged nine more goals last term. He has already struck three times in this season’s opening two fixtures, and the Juventus defence will need to be aware of him at all times.

Key Battle

If one former Milan man in Paloschi poses the biggest threat for Chievo, there is also another whom Allegri and his players must pay attention to. Valter Birsa has been at the heart of everything positive from the Gialloblu so far this term, creating the openings from which their goals have flowed.

The Slovenian midfielder has found the back of the net twice, and has weighed in with no fewer than three assists in his side’s opening two matches. The task of marshalling Birsa is likely to fall to Claudio Marchisio, with the Turin native expected to recover from injury in time to face Chievo.

With Sami Khedira likely to remain sidelined, the Italian international will be deployed at the centre of the Juventus midfield, making the two men direct opponents on Saturday in a clash that could well decide the outcome of the match.

Odds (via Odds Shark)

Away win: 117-10

Home win: 25-119

Draw: 541-100

Juventus - Chievo Preview: Dybala
targets end to poor run

The Italian champions have lost their opening two games of the season
but the forward insists "everything is in place" for the team to build momentum.

http://www.goal.com/en-gb/match/juventus-vs-chievo/2120401?ICID=AR_FS_3

Sep 11, 2015

Paulo Dybala is keen for Juventus to show they still have the quality to win Serie A when they welcome a Chievo side in good form to Turin on Saturday.

Massimiliano Allegri's men are seeking a fifth consecutive Scudetto after winning the league and the Coppa Italia as well as reaching Champions League final last season.

But Juve have made an extremely disappointing start to the new campaign, losing their opening two games to Udinese and prospective title rivals Roma respectively.

By contrast, Chievo are top of the table after a 3-1 win over Empoli before then hammering Lazio 4-0 thanks in part to Alberto Paloschi, whose double took his tally to three goals in two matches.

Juve are set to be boosted by the return of midfielder Claudio Marchisio from a muscle injury, while Hernanes and Mario Lemina could make their debuts for the club following deadline-day moves.

But Sami Khedira is still out with a thigh injury and Kwadwo Asamoah has not yet recovered from his knee troubles. Goalkeeper Rubinho and defender Patrice Evra are suspended.

Despite those absentees, Dybala is hopeful that Juve can prove a point and deal Chievo their first loss.

He told JTV: "They're [Chievo] coming off two wins, and they beat Lazio 4-0. They're fired up, and they'll come here for a very important match to try to take three points home with them.

"We've worked very hard during the week, and players have come back from international duty, so everything is in place.

"The injured players are back, so the team is now at 100 per cent, and we want to show we can win the Scudetto again."

Chievo's magnificent start to the campaign will have surprised many after they finished 14th last term.

The meeting with Juve will see Simone Pepe return to his former club after he made the switch to the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi last month.

And Chievo's perfect record so far has not altered the 32-year-old's expectations for the remainder of the term.

Pepe told giornalaccio rosa dello Sport: "It's fantastic but we still have our feet on the ground. We've started very well, but we're fighting to avoid relegation. So first we achieve safety, then we can enjoy ourselves."

OPTA FACTS

Juventus have won 17 of their 24 Serie A meetings with Chievo, including the most recent six in a row.

Chievo’s only win against Juventus in Serie A came in January 2010 - 1-0.

The Bianconeri are unbeaten at home against Chievo; securing nine wins and three draws.

Juventus have found the net in all of their Serie A clashes with the Veneti on the home soil.

Juventus have lost the first two league matches in a campaign for the first time in Serie A history.

The Bianconeri had not lost two consecutive games in the league since March 2011.

The last time Chievo collected six points over the first two matches in a single season was in 2010/11.

Prior to the defeat against Udinese, Juventus went unbeaten for 47 consecutive home games in Serie A (W42 D5).

'Juve want first three points!'

http://www.football-italia.net/72820/juve-want-first-three-points?

Sep 11, 2015

Coach Max Allegri insists Juventus will be playing for nothing against Chievo other than 'to win our first three points'.

The Bianconeri are up tomorrow evening at 19:45 UK time, and they'll be looking for a new start after losing their first two games of the season.

“We're at zero, so we must try and make the first three points of the season against a team that have six points,” he said in today's Press conference.

“They're doing very well. They had two excellent games and they'll come to Turin with an unburdened mind, thinking of making points and perhaps winning.

“So the game is going to be very delicate, we'll have to be very good and play some strong football.

“We must defend well because so far that's what we've been lacking. Only in the game in Shanghai we kept a clean sheet.

“Starting tomorrow, we're going into a month in which we'll be playing every three days, so every game is going to be very important.

“We must play them without thinking about the next one, especially tomorrow, when it's not going to be easy to make our first three points.”

The Champions League finalist was then asked about the team's new signings.

“They're already well integrated, we had two solid weeks together.

“Some of them needed to regain their condition and we were able to help them get there.

“The international players came back in a good condition, so now I have a full squad other than [sami] Khedira and [Kwadwo] Asamoah.

“Asamoah came back with the team, played parts of friendlies and took part in almost all the training camps with the team, but he still isn't ready.”

'Juventus have everyone available'

http://www.football-italia.net/72821/juventus-have-everyone-available?

Sep 11, 2015

Coach Max Allegri relishes having 'everyone available' for Juventus, and claims 'the fun team is the winning team'.

There are a lot of expectations surrounding Juventus as they face Chievo tomorrow evening at 19:45 UK time, for what many hope will be their first win of the season.

“Marchisio will take to the pitch from the first minute,” said Allegri in today's Press conference.

“As far as Morata goes, I'll have to evaluate him, because he had a bit of flu the other day, even though he's been training well.

“Right now we mustn't think of Manchester [City], we must think only of Chievo because we need the three points.

“But since I have everyone available, I'll examine the conditions of tomorrow's players with a view to the game on Tuesday [against Manchester City].

“Hernanes started out playing in the middle, in front of the defence. Then he turned into a playmaker, a supporting midfielder and he can act as an offensive midfielder too.

“If you look at his stats you can tell he's got goals in his legs and this is important for us.

“He already had a bit of game-time with Inter, so he's available and ready to play.”

It was suggested that Juventus should start their season now, and the 48-year-old largely agreed.

“Our championship has to start now, because we still have no points.

“The two games that came before this one were different, but unfortunately the result was the same.

“It had never happened to Juventus, now it happened and we only have to be aware of the situation and respond realistically to it.

“Right now there isn't much to talk about, there is only working and doing.

“In any case there is no time for talk anymore. The transfer window is closed and there's a game every three days.

“We'll have to be focused and we'll need to pick up the right pace to face games like these.

“The fun team is the winning team, I've never seen a winning team that played bad football.

“Now I have more alternatives as my players have different characteristics, and that's good because your needs can change over the season.

“But I'd say the squad is very balanced, so now that everyone is here except for Khedira and Asamoah, we have the opportunity and the duty of playing a great season.

“We can compete on all three fronts, and by March-April we must be fighting for the Champions League, for the Coppa Italia and for the Scudetto.”

JUVENTUS V CHIEVO – SERIE A MATCH PREVIEW

Sep 11, 2015

juventus.pngJuventus

After the worst start in Juventus’ history, they had not lost the first two games of the season since 1912, when the Italian league was not called Serie A yet, redemption is necessary as a surprisingly fiery Chievo Verona visit Turin. Despite the zero in the standing, there are reasons to be optimistic, first of all the furious reactions in ten men against Roma that was almost enough to produce a tie.

The last day of the transfer market window brought Mario Lemina and Hernanes and, also thanks to the return of Claudio Marchisio, we go from no options in the midfield to plenty of alternatives. As the coach stated, the group is complete and the season starts now.

Even if he was not the player we pursued the most, Hernanes is a quality reinforcement, he has proved with Lazio that he can be a difference maker in Serie A and had a nice end of his 2014/2015 campaign with Inter. More importantly, it might not be a sexy acquisition, but Hernanes is a full-fledged trequartista who fits in perfectly, has a knack for scoring from outside the box, is very creative, can easily glide past his man and is an excellent free kick taker. Had he been five years younger, we would be being parading in San Carlo square. It is a patch after the Draxler fiasco, but it is a good one. As Giuseppe Marotta admitted, he likes to buy players who have Serie A experience and there are not many option in that role: Franco Vazquez, Marek Hamsik and Riccardo Saponara, all reported Juve targets at some point, turned out to be either not for sale or too expensive.

The final additions mean that we are not going to see 3-5-2 from the start anytime soon. It is not a knock on the scheme as I do not think there is any formation that ultimately makes you win, but, more often than not, the approach we used with 3-5-2 was too passive. With Massimiliano Allegri at the helm, we have never seen the Contian 3-3-4 with the two wing-backs constantly on the opponent’s final third. It is ok though, every coach is a master of his own tactics, Allegri was smart in easing the transition last season, but now it is 4-3-1-2 time.

Sami Khedira remains out, while Kwadwo Asamoah has resumed practicing with the rest of group last week, but it is probably too early to ask him to contribute. Patrice Evra is suspended, so Alex Sandro will make his debut in black and white. Allegri announced that Andrea Barzagli will start, so probably Giorgio Chiellini will get some pre-emptive rest ahead of the Etihad clash. The midfield should be composed by Paul Pogba, Claudio Marchisio and probably Stefano Sturaro. Hernanes is slated to start in the hole as Roberto Pereyra has returned from international duties only on Friday. Alvaro Morata has been slowed down by the flu during the week, but he should be in starting XI, if not Mario Mandzukic is ready to take his place in the attack with Paulo Dybala.

Probable lineup 4-3-1-2:

Buffon; Lichsteiner, Barzagli, Bonucci, Alex Sandro; Sturaro, Marchisio, Pogba; Hernanes; Dybala, Morata.

Injuries:

Khedira (thigh), Asamoah (knee).

Suspended:

Evra, Rubinho.

chievo.png  Chievo

Chievo Verona have had a stunning start: a comeback win against Empoli on the road and a battering of Lazio. The most surprising part is that they have scored seven goals in two match after being dismal in that aspect last season. The credit goes to the strikes, Alberto Paloschi and in particular Riccardo Meggiorini are on fire, to Rolando Maran, who has always been an offensive minded coach, and to the management who has added some useful weapons.

Lucas Castro, Paul-José Mpoku and Simone Pepe are set to contribute greatly in their scheme: a very pragmatic, almost old-fashioned, 4-4-2 that exploits brilliantly the wing game and can easily turn into a diamond formation as Valter Birsa can play as no. 10 and Castro as box-to-box midfielder. Massimo Gobbi is a boring purchase, but he fills a hole at LB left by the departure of Ervin Zukanovic, who was the only valuable player who departed from their relatively successful last season’s campaign, when they easily avoided relegation and finished in 14th position with 43 points.

Seeing the first two matches, you would have never guessed that this team, which all in all is not that different from last season’s version, scored only 28 goals in 2014/2015. They have already tallied ¼ of that in 180 minutes. If Maran could maintain the same defensive balance, clearly their strongest suit as they conceded only 41 goals in the previous year, better than the fourth-placed Fiorentina, he would have built a team that could go really far. Even when the performances of the strikers will inevitably regress to normalcy – I do not expect Meggiorini to dish a falling back-heel volley assist every week – Chievo will remain one of stoutest low-table team and one of the toughest to score against.

Chievo’s defense is hard to attack because of Dario Dainelli and Alessandro Gamberini’s quiet leadership, Bostjan Cesar’s physical presence and the work rate of the fullbacks Nicolas Frey and Gobbi. Scoring early will be the main task for Juventus, so they can avoid getting frustrated, panicking, attacking recklessly and conceding on a defensive lapse. This is what cost them the Udinese game.

Maran has some problems only in the midfield: the nominal starters are out both as Mariano Izco will miss a good chuck of the season because of an ACL tear, while Ivan Radovanovic is dealing with a knee sprain. In the last match, the coach picked Nicola Rigoni, who played at Cittadella in Serie B last season, over Anders Christiansen to play alongside Perparim Hetemaj in the middle. In the deadline day, they have added the experienced Giampiero Pinzi from Udinese, so he could be a viable option in a big game, where a rookie could be a little rattled.

The reports say that Maran intends to confirm the lineup that pounded Lazio, which means that Gamberini should play over Dainelli, who had some problems in the preseason, while Castro, Valter Birsa and Meggiorini should win the battle with Mpoku, Pepe and Sergio Pellissier for the starting jobs on the flanks and in the attack.

Probable lineup 4-4-2:

Bizzarri; Frey, Gamberini, Cesar, Gobbi; Castro, Rigoni, Hetemaj, Birsa; Meggiorini, Paloschi.

Injuries:

Izco (knee), Radovanovic (knee).

Suspended:

None

Maran: Juventus Will Be A Fascinating Challenge

http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/09/maran-juventus-will-be-a-fascinating-challenge/?

Sep 11, 2015

Chievo coach Rolando Maran has said his side will not just lie down in their away fixture against Juventus this weekend.

The Gialloblu have had an amazing start to the season winning both of their opening two games and are currently top of the Serie A table.

“We do not start beaten and we will not play a defensive game.” said Maran at pre-match press conference.

“It will be a beautiful and fascinating challenge which we will try to play in the best way.

“Juventus are without a point just to add to the randomness of the situation, but with such a strong squad they can quickly recover the ground they’ve lost in these two games.”

The former Catania coach also made clear his side will take nothing for granted.

“The six points will not let us get ahead of ourselves,” said Maran.

“Do not ask me about tactics as I will not take anything for granted and I will take all the time necessary to decide calmly.

“It’s still early, but I have it in mind.”

MATCH PREVIEW

http://www.football-italia.net/SerieA/match/preview/69845

Sep 11, 2015

It’s top versus bottom - with the expected roles reversed - as Juventus host Chievo looking to grab all three points after their worst-ever start to a Serie A season.

The Bianconeri struggled to assert themselves and create scoring chances against Roma last round, conceding most of the possession to their opponents and managing only three shots on target. Despite the coach’s insistence that they are “not in crisis,” it’s been a worrying start for Max Allegri’s men, as they’ve looked flat and unmotivated in their first two matches of the season and duly have no points to show for it.

Alex Sandro steps in for the suspended Patrice Evra for the visit of the Flying Donkeys, after the Frenchman was sent off against Roma for a second bookable offence. Look for Stephan Lichtsteiner to get forward often down the right side and provide width and crosses for the forwards.

New signing Hernanes is likely to make his debut in the middle of the pitch and provide creative impetus just behind Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala, who scored Juve’s only goal against Roma. Claudio Marchisio could make his first start for the Old Lady after recovering from a muscle injury suffered during the later part of the summer. Leonardo Bonucci pairs Giorgio Chiellini at the back, and the two Italians will try record their first clean sheet of the season in front of Gianluigi Buffon.

Chievo will try to win their third game on the trot and get off to their best-ever Serie A start. The Flying Donkeys currently sit top of the table and have scored seven goals already, after managing only 28 for all of last season. Expect Rolando Maran to name his preferred 4-4-2 formation with few changes from the past two weeks.

Riccardo Meggiorini will start up top, fresh off providing an early assist-of-the-season contender for Alberto Paloschi against Lazio last week. “If Totti had done that, people would’ve talked about it for months,” Meggiorini told reporters after the match, and it will be tough for him to top that effort against a hungry Juventus side.

Paloschi will join Meggiorini in an attacking pair that had some success at the end of last season, with Valter Birsa and new signing Lucas Castro providing the width. Birsa and Meggiorini are the only players in Serie A to have notched a goal and an assist in both of their first two games.

At the back, Dario Dainelli and Bostjan Cesar anchor one of the league’s best defensive units from last term, with Massimo Gobbi joining from Parma and starting on the left side opposite veteran Nicolas Frey. Juventus should dominate possession, but Chievo’s confidence is high and they could cause problems on set pieces, so there could be several goals on hand at the Juventus Arena on Saturday.

Keep an eye on: Paulo Dybala (Juventus): With a goal against Roma, Dybala has been one of the few bright spots in a dismal start to Juve’s campaign. The Old Lady paid an initial fee of €32m for the bright young Argentine, and he’ll have huge boots to fill after the departure of Carlos Tevez to Boca Juniors. Still, with pace, superb control and a remarkable ability to notch both goals and assists, Dybala can give Dainelli and Cesar plenty of trouble on Saturday.

Form Guide: Juventus (- - - L L) Chievo (- - - W W)

Last Season: Juventus 2-0 Chievo

Stat Fact:
Juventus have only ever lost once to Chievo in 24 matches, a 1-0 result in Verona on January 17, 2010.

Juventus (probable):
Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Bonucci, Chiellini, Alex Sandro; Sturaro, Marchisio, Pogba; Hernanes; Mandzukic, Dybala

Suspended: Evra, Rubinho

Chievo (probable):
Bizzarri; Frey, Dainelli, Cesar, Gobbi; Birsa, Rigoni, Hetemaj, Castro; Paloschi, Meggiorini

Suspended: None

Juventus must shrug off two straight
defeats and rebound vs. Chievo

http://www.espnfc.co.uk/club/juventus/111/blog/post/2606215/juventus-can-rebound-with-win-vs-chievo?

Sep 11, 2015

On Saturday night against Chievo Verona, Juventus's season will start. With Claudio Marchisio recovered from injury and a little more time afforded to the squad to work together as a unit, better judgements and assessments can be made as to whether or not the Old Lady is still a formidable force.

While critics continue to discuss Juve's decision to allow three team leaders (Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal) to depart and the impact that has had on the squad, against Chievo we will see whether certain purchases have what it takes to make us forget those who departed.

Paulo Dybala is set to make his second start of the season and for the first time, it's likely he will be paired with Alvaro Morata. Many expect this to be the perfect partnership going forward and if the Spaniard has truly recovered from his flu, perhaps they can demonstrate the potential of such a partnership.

With Patrice Evra suspended, this will also be a chance to see how well Alex Sandro can do on the left. He's a full-back likened to Roberto Carlos but with an even more accurate cross. With so many players likely to benefit from his deliveries, one hopes he can provide the width and strike the synergy required with those ahead of him to repay of a club that spent much of their transfer budget (€26 million) on him.

Yet despite the many stars that will feature, the one everyone is desperate to watch is Hernanes, dubbed the best trequartista in the league by former Bianconero, Angelo Di Livio. Providing the creativity the side has desperately lacked since Pirlo's departure, the Brazilian is desperate to make an impression and help his side reclaim their dominating presence in the league. Likely to start behind the front two, Hernanes will need to inject ingenuity to release the forwards but also work on a defensive level to ensure the team has the same balance it honed last season.

The Flying Donkeys have had a terrific start to the season, smashing Lazio and beating Empoli. Particularly effective from set-pieces, they've scored seven goals in two games. While they have tormented their first two opponents, they are a side with many weaknesses and will face a Juve team desperate to return to winning ways.

Rolando Maran has done well to work on his players' confidence and is implementing many of the ideas that made him an initial success with Catania. Much like his former team, little importance is placed on ball possession. Instead, Maran wants a fast game based on one-touch football that effectively exploits his team's natural pace. It is for this reason that the likes of Hernanes must remain focused and help on both sides of the ball.

Without Vidal available to press and win back possession high up the pitch, Stefano Sturaro will need a perfect performance, such as the one he offered against Real Madrid in last season's Champions League. With Marchisio back to offer his leadership skills, one hopes he can inspire Paul Pogba to perform to expectations while organising Juve's midfield.

Another department that will need a helping hand is the defence. Juve's back line were so effective last season because they had support from everyone ahead of them. In the first two games this year, they have often been exposed, conceding unusual goals; it's vital everyone pulls their weight to ensure a solid performance. Forwards must track back and play sensibly to ensure that Chievo can't win set pieces in dangerous areas.

Juventus impressed in most of their matches preceding a Champions League fixture last season, collecting several wins. Those successes helped them better prepare for the European challenges, building the confidence required to play organised games against better quality opponents. The same must happen again now as Manchester City await midweek, in superb form and ready to prove they belong with Europe's elite.

A great result against Chievo will go a long way in responding to Juve's critics and in raising their self esteem. Now is the time to return to winning ways.

Juventus vs. Chievo Preview: Round 3 —
Let's try this thing again ... again

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/9/12/9231055/juventus-vs-chievo-verona-serie-a-round-3-preview-team-news-schedule

Sep 12, 2015

Through two weeks, the Serie A table looks kind of ... not what we expected it to look like. Glance down at who is in first place, who is in second place and then who is sitting in 17th. That's what you can unpredictable. There are also probably a few more words we all want to use to describe this, but we can keep those to ourselves for now.

99zxwo.jpg

See? That's not what we were expecting.

Round 3 of the 2015-16 Serie A season sees the team that absolutely nobody expected to be atop the league table after two rounds face the team that absolutely everybody expected to be atop the league table, not sitting all of one point above the drop zone. Sometimes the narrative just writes itself. (Hey, do some work, you lazy journalist!)

Juventus' opening two rounds didn't go as anybody hoped they would. Well, those of us who root for Juventus, that is. I'm sure the rest of Serie A is loving the fact that Juve are where they are through the first two rounds of the season. "Ha, those jerks have been in first place for so long they're getting a taste of their own medicine!" is what some might say. Or they're thinking something completely non-family-friendly entirely.

It's also a pretty darn beginning to post-international break play for Chievo, who face Inter, Torino and Sassuolo before the Derby della Scala against Hellas Verona on Oct. 3.

But this is a Juventus blog so we will focus on the team we always focus on.

With how many new pieces to the puzzle there are, it wasn't going to immediately click for Max Allegri and his squad. But, at the same time, it's not like all those new parts were playing in Juve's first two games this season. Yes, we saw Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala, we got a debut from Juan Cuadrado, but we also had SImone Padoin playing in the center of the midfield and a good amount of injuries that caused PadoMania to happen in the first place.

Let's just hope all of that was sooooo two weeks ago.

Saturday brings us just your average day when first place meets 17th place. Except we pretty much didn't expect first place to be in first place, or 17th place to be in 17th place. So maybe not so average. Ah, Serie A, you never disappoint with your uniqueness and unpredictability.

GOOD NEWS

Federico Mattiello is part of Chievo's traveling squad to face Juventus. This is not just good news, this is great news considering the kind of injury he suffered earlier in the year. Welcome (almost fully) back, kid.

BAD NEWS

JUVENTUS IS IN 17TH PLACE AFTER TWO GAMES PANIC.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR

1. How Juventus come out of the international break.

We know how Juve went into the international break — stumbling in their first two games of the season and going 0 for 6 when it comes to claiming points available. No, two games won't dictate how the entire season will go, but it's not like Allegri's squad wowed us against Udinese or Roma. So what are they going to look like two weeks after their craptastic showing at the Stadio Olimpico? That's the million dollar question, boys and girls. What we do know is this Juventus squad is going to look a little different than the one that played Roma. Alex Sandro is going to get his first Juve start with Patrice Evra being suspended. Hernanes is also expected to make his Juventus debut after signing with the club on deadline day. Does that mean a switch to Allegri's favorite 4-3-1-2 formation turn the tide on Juventus' early-season success? For the sake of change, I sure hope so.

2. Alex Sandro's impact.

Slowly working in a new signing isn't a foreign concept since Allegri took over as Juventus manager. But with Evra being shown red against Roma, Juventus' €26 million man is going to be getting his first start at the club no matter what. We know all the qualities that Alex Sandro possesses — he can run like hell, he can cross, he can continue to develop into one heck of a left back and make us all forget about how much Juve spent on him. The perfect scenario would be to see Alex Sandro flying up and down the left wing sending in picture-perfect crosses and just living up to the lofty billing he arrives from Porto with. The best thing is that he's been able to stay in Turin during the international break and work with Allegri and his new teammates. (Well, the ones not away on international duty, that is.) That will certainly help him settle in even if he isn't completely set within Juventus' squad.

3. Claudio Marchisio's impact.

Can I just say that I've missed you, Claudio? Because I really have missed you.

With all due respect to Padoin and the effort he put in to try and fill Marchisio's shoes, the quality in Juventus' midfield has just gone up quite a lot. Like, a welcome change, for one. Now that Marchisio is back in the starting lineup — something that Allegri was happy to let us know about during his pre-match press conference on Friday — Juventus' midfield will begin to look whole again. That's because Marchisio will be in the center of it all and playing in a position where he was better than Andrea Pirlo last season. And you know what will stop all of the talk of "Can Juventus replace Andrea Pirlo in the center of it's midfield?" that match announcers have been trotting out the first two weeks of the season? The man who is playing the same position bringing the kind of stability and class to the position that he did a season ago.

4. Can Paul Pogba look like Paul Pogba again?

The last time we saw Pogba in a Juventus jersey he was maybe as visibly frustrated on the field as we've ever seen him. He was yelling at himself, he was yelling at teammates, he was obviously feeling the heat with his team struggling to do much of anything at all. But the return of Marchisio obviously means that Pogba won't have to feel the brunt of the responsibility in Juventus' midfield, and hopefully free Pogba up to do more Pogba things that we're used to. I mean, there's no doubting that Pogba will be under pressure regardless of who is playing next to him in midfield — he's wearing the No. 10 now, he's arguably the best young player in the world. But that's the norm for Pogba now. And the hope is now that he does a little less screaming at his teammates and a little more sending of screaming shots into the back of the net.

My starting XI (4-3-1-2):

Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Bonucci, Barzagli, Alex Sandro; Sturaro, Marchisio, Pogba; Hernanes; Dybala, Morata

Juventus vs. Chievo: Projected Lineups

http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/9/12/9314485/juventus-vs-chievo-verona-projected-lineups-serie-a-round-3

Sep 12, 2015

When Juventus took the field the first two games of the 2015-16 Serie A season, it's safe to say that their roster wasn't exactly full strength. Injuries had pretty much taken away any kind of depth Juve's new-look squad had, and many of those new faces hadn't yet either played much at all or made much of an impact to really make a difference.

Ah, but there's a difference two weeks later. A good kind of difference, too.

Injuries are starting to go away, those players who were signed in the summer to fill needs and now Max Allegri has probably reached a point where he can let them loose and truly see how they fit into the Juventus puzzle going forward. Yes, that season is only two games deep, but compare Juventus' roster from then to the one that is here now.

Hey, there's an actual trequartista around now!

And, look! There's actually depth in the center of the midfield again!

Healthy defenders! Amazing!

This is madness. Good things are happening on paper. See, things are already getting better around these parts and they haven't even stepped onto the Juventus Stadium field yet.

But now the question is, what is Allegri going to do with all these options?

We know Claudio Marchisio is back in the starting lineup today against Chievo because Allegri has told us so. We know that means no Simone Padoin starting as a holding midfielder and, in turn, Juventus' midfield looking a whole lot better than it did two weeks ago in Rome. Let's see if Allegri has another other answers for us...

JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen
.@OfficialAllegri: "In defence tomorrow night, I'm looking at putting in @andreabarzagli2 and Alex Sandro from the start."

Okay, so we basically knew that Alex Sandro part already seeing as Patrice Evra is suspended after being sent off against Roma two weekends ago. But having Barzagli in the mix, well, that's a little bit of a surprise considering Giorgio Chiellini is fit and has essentially played just about every time he has been fit under Allegri.

Who knows how much having Barzagli is there to help Alex Sandro acclimate to the Juventus defense. I'm sure there's something to it considering Giorgio Chiellini has a knack for being a wild and crazy guy in defense from time to time.

These are the things that Allegri can do with a (almost) healthy squad at his disposal. As much as we would probably want him to keep a relatively constant starting lineup during these times where the games are important even though it's September and October, he can tinker and rotate to keep those vitally important players fresh when the opportunity knocks. He was quick to point out just how many days are in between games these days with the Champions League starting up midweek. (THE CHAMPIOOOOOONS!!!)

Or maybe Max will just go with a 3-5-2 because he loves rage on the internet. Wouldn't that be interesting.

(Warning: We here at BWRAO don't truly know if Max Allegri likes internet rage and haven't checked his Twitter mentions much at all lately. So if he doesn't like seeing his account get blown up with complaints about his starting lineup, we still need confirmation of it.)

Juventus start Hernanes and Alex Sandro as they host surprise Serie A leaders Chievo in a top to tail clash.

It kicks off at 20.45 CET.

The Bianconeri won the last four Scudetti, lifted the Coppa Italia and reached the Champions League Final.

However, this has been their worst ever Serie A start, falling to two consecutive defeats against Udinese and Roma.

Incredibly, Juve are propping up the table while Chievo sit on top with a 100 per cent record.

The Flying Donkeys are also top scorers, thanks mainly to a 4-0 demolition job on Lazio last time out.

Hernanes arrived on deadline day from Inter in a deal worth €11m and he’s thrown straight into the starting XI as the trequartista Max Allegri was looking for.

Claudio Marchisio is back after more than a month out injured, but Sami Khedira and Kwadwo Asamoah are still unavailable.

Patrice Evra was sent off against Roma and is therefore suspended along with third choice goalkeeper Rubinho.

This gives Alex Sandro the chance to make his first Serie A start at left-back.

Alvaro Morata creates a new strike partnership with Paulo Dybala, while Paul Pogba, Giorgio Chiellini, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Mario Mandzukic are rested ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League showdown with Manchester City.

Chievo have almost a full squad to choose from, only missing Ivan Radovanovic and Mariano Izco.

Alberto Paloschi is partnered by Riccardo Meggiorini, whose incredible back-heel flick assist from a corner against Lazio did the Vine rounds.

Juventus: Buffon; Caceres, Barzagli, Bonucci, Alex Sandro; Pereyra, Marchisio, Sturaro; Hernanes; Dybala, Morata

Juventus bench: Neto, Audero, Lichtsteiner, Rugani, Chiellini, Padoin, Lemina, Pogba, Cuadrado, Zaza, Mandzukic

Chievo: Bizzarri; Frey, Gamberini, Cesar, Gobbi; Castro, Rigoni, Hetemaj; Birsa; Paloschi, Meggiorini

Chievo bench: Bressan, Seculin, Sardo, Mattiello, Dainelli, Cacciatore, Christiansen, Pinzi, Pepe, Mpoku, Inglese, Pellissier

HT 0-1: Juve losing with Chievo too

http://www.football-italia.net/72891/ht-juve-losing-chievo-too

Sep 12, 2015

The Juventus crisis continues, as Chievo are 1-0 up in Turin at half-time to maintain a perfect record.

Remarkably this was a top to tail fixture, but the Flying Donkeys had a 100 per cent record and the Old Lady were propping up the table after two defeats. It was their worst ever Serie A start to a season, but Max Allegri rested several stars ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Manchester City. Hernanes and Alex Sandro made their Bianconeri debuts, while Patrice Evra sat out a ban.

Chievo had beaten Juve only once in the top flight, 1-0 in January 2010, from 24 previous meetings.

Nonetheless, they took the shock lead in Turin after just five minutes. The defence backed off and allowed Perparim Hetemaj time and space to pick his spot, blasting into the far bottom corner from the edge of the box. Incredibly it was his first goal in Serie A for over four years, since April 2011.

Hernanes stung Albano Bizzarri’s gloves and Leo Bonucci came sliding in a fraction too late to tap in Roberto Pereyra’s cross-shot at the back post. Pereyra also ballooned over after a Hetemaj fresh-air clearance on Alex Sandro, as did Paulo Dybala when slipping.

Chievo didn’t sit back and Riccardo Meggiorini fired over, while Hernanes was booked for simulation. Claudio Marchisio returned after more than a month out injured and looked very rusty, scuffing several good opportunities.

Juventus were jeered off the field at half-time and Gigi Buffon asked the fans to be supportive rather than insulting.

Juventus 1-1 Chievo: Late Dybala
penalty earns Allegri's men a point

The 21-year-old converted from 12 yards to ensure that the Serie A champions were
not defeated on Saturday, with Perparim Hetemaj having opened the scoring early on.

Champions Juventus finally got on the board in Serie A this season on Saturday but once again failed to convince in a 1-1 draw against surprise high-flyers Chievo.

Paulo Dybala netted an 84th-minute penalty to cancel out Perparim Hetemaj's early opener but Massimiliano Allegri's team could have been further behind at that stage.

Gianluigi Buffon kept out Bostjan Cesar early in the second half with a remarkable reaction save and the Chievo defender had another effort ruled out when he was adjudged to have fouled Leonardo Bonucci.

Allegri, who oversaw defeats to Udinese and Roma in the opening two games of the season, left star midfielder Paul Pogba on the bench with an eye on Tuesday's Champions League trip to Manchester City.

The France international produced an energetic second-half performance but it looked to be in vain before the unfortunate Cesar brought down fellow sub Juan Cuadrado.

Chievo return to the top of Serie A, while Juve remain in unfamiliarly lowly company.

Flushed with confidence from their emphatic 4-0 win over Lazio last time out, Chievo began with plenty of ambition and were quickly rewarded.

Valter Birsa's cross from the left struck Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli and fell invitingly for Hetemaj, who rifled an unerring shot across Buffon and into the bottom right corner from 22 yards – his first goal for the club he joined from Brescia in 2011.

It provided an early jolt for Juventus debutants Alex Sandro and Hernanes, who combined for the latter to draw a fine save from Albano Bizzarri with a long-range effort.

Roberto Pereyra sent a low curling effort past the far post that Bonucci narrowly failed to make contact with and the Argentina winger snatched badly at a 13th-minute chance when Hetemaj botched a clearance.

Juventus forward Dybala blazed an acrobatic attempt over in the 20th minute before a horrible touch from Bonucci almost let Riccardo Meggiorini in to double Chievo's advantage.

Pereyra crossed for Stefano Sturaro to head over in the 31st minute and Juventus were unable to redeem a ragged first-half display.

Allegri had seen enough to send Pogba on in place of the Claudio Marchisio for the second period but the hosts were soon indebted to a truly astonishing piece of goalkeeping from Buffon.

Cesar swivelled to volley goalwards from eight yards after Juventus failed to deal with a 52nd-minute set-piece, catching the shot sweetly, only to see the veteran Italy star thrust out his right hand and push the ball to safety.

Five minutes later Chievo enjoyed a miraculous escape of their own, with Pereyra striking the base of the post before Nicolas Frey magnificently blocked Pogba's follow up.

Pogba had penalty claims rejected when substitute Dario Dainelli grasped a handful of his shirt before Cesar was questionably penalised for a similar infringement

The Chievo man converted a 62nd-minute corner but fell foul of the officials despite himself and Bonucci grasping one another's jerseys.

Frey made another timely intervention as Juventus sub Cuadrado burst towards goal before Hernanes met his match in Bizzarri twice more.

The visitors' brave resistance was finally broken when Cesar brought down Cuadrado with minimal contact and Dybala smashed home emphatically to barely spare the blushes of the champions.

against AC Chievo Verona

Juventus have come from behind to draw 1-1 with AC Chievo Verona in Serie A.

The deadlock was broken after just five minutes when Perparim Hetemaj fired past Gianluigi Buffon from the edge of the area.

Alvaro Morata had a chance to equalise five minutes later. His long-range effort was headed towards the top left corner but Albano Bizzarri made a diving save to deflect the ball behind.

Roberto Pereyra then shot wide for Juve, before Paulo Dybala struck over the crossbar.

Stefano Sturaro had another chance to equalise on the half-hour mark, but headed narrowly over from a Pereyra corner.

Two minutes before the break, Claudio Marchisio sent a volley wide of the left post.

Seven minutes after half time, Valter Birsa's shot from inside the six-yard box was stopped by Buffon.

Pereyra then hit the post from the edge of the box on the hour mark, and Paul Pogba could only put the rebound over the bar.

Hernanes was next to go for goal nine minutes later, but Bizzarri tipped the shot round the right post.

Juventus scored an equaliser with just six minutes to spare when Hernanes was pulled down in the area. Dybala stepped up and put the penalty into the top right corner.

Juventus scrape Chievo draw

The Juventus crisis continues, as only a Paulo Dybala
penalty earned a 1-1 draw with surprise outfit Chievo.

It was their worst ever Serie A start to a season, but Max Allegri rested several stars ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Manchester City.

There was an odd change of tactics for the second half, as Paul Pogba replaced Marchisio, but Hernanes went into a playmaker role with Pereyra as trequartista.

It really should’ve been 2-0 for Chievo on 51 minutes, but Buffon performed an incredible save from point-blank range to palm Bostjan Cesar’s volley on to the upright.

Juventus went very close to an equaliser with a triple chance, as Pereyra’s low drive thumped the base of the post, then Pogba’s follow-up was charged down and Dybala fired the rebound over.

Pogba had penalty appeals for a Dario Dainelli shirt tug, then Chievo saw a goal disallowed for Cesar’s manhandling of Leo Bonucci as he volleyed in from a free kick, though they both had a handful of jersey.

Juan Guillermo Cuadrado had a great chance with his first touch, only to hesitate and be closed down, while Bizzarri again beat away a Hernanes screamer from distance.

Hernanes curled a wonderful free kick over the wall and it dipped viciously, but Bizzarri fingertipped it out from under the bar.

There was more controversy when the referee at first hesitated, but then awarded a penalty on advice from his assistants. Cuadrado burst into the box and appeared to be running out of room when he went down over a Cesar sliding challenge. The Colombian appeared to look for the contact. Nonetheless, Dybala fired into the near top corner to draw Juventus level from the spot.

Juventus:
Buffon; Caceres, Barzagli, Bonucci, Alex Sandro; Pereyra, Marchisio (Pogba 46), Sturaro (Cuadrado 65); Hernanes; Dybala, Morata (Mandzukic 73)

Chievo:
