Preview: Lazio vs. Juventus

Serie A: Lazio vs Juventus: Predicted lineup, injury news, head-to-head, telecast

In the first game of a potentially decisive double-header with Juventus, mid-table Lazio aim to make a fresh start under new management, as two fallen giants clash at Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

Defeats to Juve in league and cup over the next few days would all but end the Biancocelesti's season, while the visitors are enduring one of their worst streaks since rejoining Serie A in 2007.

Match preview

After former manager Maurizio Sarri resigned on the back of a four-game losing run, which included an aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League's last 16, Lazio were left in disarray.

Citing a loss of backing from his players, Sarri stepped down and his assistant Giovanni Martusciello occupied the dugout at Stadio Stirpe for a 3-2 win over Frosinone just before the international break. ............

Martusciello has now made way for Croatian coach Igor Tudor, who will be tasked with turning that dire form around, and entertainment should be on the agenda during his time in Rome: when last employed in Serie A, only Inter, Lazio and Napoli scored more goals than his Hellas Verona side. ............

Before trying to gain a first-leg advantage in the cup semi-finals, Juventus will aim to do the league double over Lazio for the first time in five years, following their 3-1 success in September's reverse fixture.

However, wins have been thin on the ground for Max Allegri's men over the past couple of months, during which time their Scudetto hopes sunk like a stone and a previously rich seam of goals suddenly dried up.

Since the end of January, Juve have taken a mere seven points from eight matches, and only Serie A's bottom three - Salernitana, Frosinone and Sassuolo - have accrued fewer over the same period.

Having overseen the club's worst such run for 13 years, Allegri is facing fresh calls to depart this summer, but he may believe that claiming the Coppa and overtaking AC Milan for second place remain achievable goals between now and the end of May.  ............

Team News

  ............

Meanwhile, the visitors will be without Arkadiusz Milik (adductor) and Carlos Alcaraz (hamstring) due to injury, but their most notable absentee is Dusan Vlahovic, who has scored 15 league goals this term to sit second in the Capocannoniere rankings.

The Serbian striker was sent off during second-half stoppage time against Genoa so must serve a suspension, and with Milik unavailable, misfiring forward Moise Kean could be called upon to partner Federico Chiesa or Kenan Yildiz at Stadio Olimpico.

Yet to score in 14 Serie A appearances so far this season, Kean has not found the net in his last 18 league games, which is the longest goal drought endured by any Juve striker for more than 20 years.

Lazio possible starting lineup:
Mandas; Gila, Romagnoli, Casale; Lazzari, Guendouzi, Cataldi, Marusic; Alberto, Zaccagni; Immobile

Juventus possible starting lineup:
Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Chiesa, Kean

We say: Lazio 0-1 Juventus

It may take time to make the transition from Sarri-ball to Tudor's tactics, so Lazio are set to suffer another defeat this weekend. Ahead of their next meeting on Tuesday, these sides will most likely play out a cagey affair, with Juve reverting to type and grinding out the win.

Preview: Lazio vs Juventus – Team News, Lineups & Prediction

Lazio_Juventus_Preview.jpg

Saturday is the day of reckoning between two familiar foes as Lazio and Juventus lock horns in a high-stakes Serie A clash at the Stadio Olimpico. While the visitors’ bid to return to the Champions League goes to plan, the home side’s pursuit of European football is in the balance.

Lazio endured unpleasant moments before March’s international break. After Maurizio Sarri’s abrupt exit, club fans insulted talismanic striker Ciro Immobile as Biancocelesti eked out a precious 3-2 victory at relegation-threatened Frosinone under the leadership of interim boss Giovanni Martusciello.

But the new sheriff is in town. Following a brief spell in Ligue 1 with Marseille, Igor Tudor has returned to Serie A to salvage Lazio’s disastrous campaign. The former Hellas Verona manager faces an uphill task to guide the capital-based outfit to the Champions League, with his side starting this round eight points behind arch-rivals Roma.

Unlike Lazio, Juventus are on the verge of regaining their place at Europe’s top table after a season-long absence. However, Massimiliano Allegri’s future in Turin has been under the microscope after Bianconeri’s unfathomable downturn since the beginning of February.

Fans have lost patience with the defensive-minded coach as a scoreless home draw against Genoa before the international break saw the Turin faithful jeer their manager after the final whistle. That result, coupled with Milan’s 3-1 win at Verona, resulted in Juventus tumbling down to third in the Serie A standings.

Match Preview

Lazio

The abovementioned win against the Canaries halted Lazio’s embarrassing four-game losing streak in all competitions. But among the defeats they suffered during that stretch was a 3-0 humbling at the hands of Bayern Munich, which ended their Champions League run in the first knockout stage. ............

Juventus

Despite Lazio’s form woes, Juventus have their own issues to contend with after racking up just seven points across their last seven Serie A matches. At the thick of that woeful sequence has been Bianconeri’s notoriously uneventful frontline. Three scoring blanks in those seven games perhaps best explain fans’ anger.

Winless on their last three league travels (D1, L2) as a result of their immense scoring problems, Juventus will take this trip hopelessly looking to return to winning ways on the road. It’s not all doom and gloom, knowing they have developed a habit of making strong starts in their away league fixtures.

Allegri’s men have fallen behind in just five of their 14 Serie A outings on hostile turf this season. But conceding first might not necessarily mean a fiasco for Juventus. They’ve rescued points twice in such contests (W1, D1, L3).

Team News

 ............

On the other hand, Juventus will be without Arkadisuz Milik, Dusan Vlahovic, Nicolo Fagioli, Paul Pogba, and Carlos Alcaraz. Vlahovic lost his temper in second-half stoppages against Genoa, picking up two bookings in a minute, and will have to watch the game from the stands.

Lazio vs Juventus Potential Lineups

Lazio (3-4-2-1): Christos Mandas; Mario Gila, Alessio Romagnoli, Nicolo Casale; Manuel Lazzari, Matteo Guendouzi, Danilo Cataldi, Adam Marusic; Alberto, Zaccagni; Ciro Immobile.

Juventus (3-5-2): Wojciech Szczesny; Federico Gatti, Gleison Bremer, Danilo; Andrea Cambiaso, Weston McKennie, Manuel Locatelli, Adrien Rabiot, Filip Kostic; Federico Chiesa, Moise Kean.

Lazio vs Juventus Prediction

This fixture has a low-scoring theme written all over it. Both teams have massively struggled in front of goal this season. With Tudor’s arrival, Lazio’s disappointing attacking output could suffer further decline.

Meanwhile, goals have been at a premium for Juventus without Vlahovic. All that encourages us to predict a goalless affair.

Prediction: Draw (0-0)

Igor Tudor discusses what Juventus means to him ahead of Lazio debut

Lazio, Igor Tudor al suo esordio: "Subito Juventus? Non credo al destino, gioco con l'idea di vincere" - Eurosport

Geen fotobeschrijving beschikbaar.

Igor Tudor will make his managerial debut for Lazio against Juventus this weekend, a significant occasion given his history with the Bianconeri.

During his playing career, Tudor made over 100 league appearances for Juventus, establishing himself as a key figure for the club.

Furthermore, he served as the assistant manager at Juventus during the 2020/2021 season under Andrea Pirlo, further cementing his ties to the club. ............

Speaking ahead of the game, he said:

“I don’t believe in the fate that Juventus faces immediately. I spent seven or eight years there, in the period where a person is built. I’m grateful to Juventus. I had teammates and managers who made me become who I am now, especially due to the work culture.” ............

The latest reports in Italy claim Weston McKennie will go on the Juventus bench against Lazio, while Mattia De Sciglio will play the first game in 10 months, allowing Massimiliano Allegri to switch to a 4-3-3 system.

Juventus will visit Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico today, Saturday, March 30. The match kicks off at 17:00 GMT. ............

De Sciglio will play his first game since May 2023. The ex-Milan defender suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury 10 months ago and hasn’t yet played a competitive match since.

De Sciglio’s inclusion in the starting XI means Allegri will switch to a 4-3-3 system with Andrea Cambiaso deployed as an attacking right winger. ............

Juventus won just one game from the last eight, collecting just one victory.

Probable Juve XI vs. Lazio: (4-3-3): Szczesny; Danilo, Bremer, Rugani, De Sciglio; Miretti, Locatelli, Rabiot: Cambiaso, Kean, Chiesa.

Juve, i dubbi di Allegri verso il Torino: come stanno Milik e Vlahovic?

Massimo Pavan acknowledges that Juventus needs to display signs of revival as they prepare to face Lazio in Serie A today.

Juve had been enduring a dismal run of form prior to the international break and are now under pressure to perform better in the remaining fixtures of the season. ............

Juventus is grappling with the absence of several key players, including Dusan Vlahovic. Nonetheless, securing a victory is imperative, and Pavan expresses hope that they can demonstrate their determination to succeed.

He said:

“A few too many absences in Rome, we all hope to see a sign of life in the team today. There are important absences in attack and on the left, some players must give a sign of life to bring Juve back to victory.” ............

SS Lazio vs Juventus: Preview and Prediction

Kijk Lazio - Juventus Live Stream | DAZN BE

Juventus will travel to Stadio Olimpico to take on SS Lazio in a clash that will see two out of form teams face off on Saturday.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side looked the most likely team to challenge Inter Milan for the Scudetto heading into 2024. However, post January, Juventus’s form has dropped off massively, reflecting that of a relegation-threatened side.

This has seen the Bianconeri drop down to third spot in Serie A, 17 points off the summit. With just nine more games to go, their chance of securing the Serie A title now lies in ruins. On the other hand, Lazio are no better, as they are currently occupying the ninth spot in Serie A.

With a terrible home form to boot, the Roman giants are struggling to salvage what they can of a forgettable campaign. With both teams also set to face off midweek in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final, the clash on Saturday could be a testing ground of sorts.

The Coppa Italia reflects both clubs’ best chance of securing silverware this season. With Inter Milan already knocked out, the stage is set for either side to go all the way. Whether they will prioritise the mid-week clash over the one at the weekend remains to be seen. ............

Team News & Tactics

SS Lazio

Igor Tudor is still getting his players accustomed to the 3-4-2-1 formation ahead of the 4-3-3 that Sarri implemented at Stadio Olimpico. However, he will have to do so without Ivan Provedel, who is ruled out with an ankle injury. Juventus-owned duo of Nicolo Rovella and Luca Pellegrini are also unlikely to feature. The former is suffering from a groin injury, while Pellegrini is suspended. ............

Probable Lineup (3-4-2-1): Mandas; Gila, Romagnoli, Casale; Lazzari, Guendouzi, Cataldi, Marusic; Alberto, Zaccagni; Immobile

SS Lazio vs Juventus: Preview and Prediction.

Juventus

The Bianconeri are currently on their worst run of results in 13 years. Given Lazio’s poor run of form at home and unfamiliarity with new management, Juventus will be keen to make the most of the match-up.

However, the visitors will have to do so without Arkadiusz Milik and Carlos Alcaraz, who are struggling with adductor and hamstring injuries, respectively. Star striker Dusan Vlahovic is also unavailable after being sent off against Genoa. This should force Massimiliano Allegri to put his faith in attack in either Kenan Yildiz or Moise Kean.

The 3-5-2 formation appears to be the way forward, with Wojciech Szczesny in goal. The Polish shot-stopper should be protected by the back three of Federico Gatti, Gleison Bremer, and Danilo. Andrea Cambiaso and Filip Kostic will start as the wing-backs, with the trio of Manuel Locatelli, Adrien Rabiot and Weston McKennie forming the central midfield trifecta.

Federico Chiesa should start upfront alongside Kean. The latter is currently going through a rut where he has not scored in 14 Serie A games this season. Not having scored in 18 Serie A games, Kean is undergoing the worst goal drought by any Juventus striker in the last two decades.

Probable Lineup (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Chiesa, Kean

SS Lazio vs Juventus: Preview and Prediction.

Key Stats

  • Juventus have defeated Lazio 26 times in Serie A since 2004/05 season. Only AC Milan (28 vs Cagliari) and Juventus (27 vs Udinese) have secured more wins against a single opponent in the Italian top flight since then.
  • A win on Saturday will see Juventus secure a league double over Lazio for the first time since 2018/19.
  • A win on Saturday will see Lazio secure back to back home wins against Juventus in Serie A for the first time since 2001.
  • A loss on Saturday will extend Lazio’s losing streak at home in Serie A to four games, their longest such run since 1961.
  • Juventus have picked up just seven points in their last eight Serie A games. Only Salernitana, Frosinone and Sassuolo have secured fewer points than the Bianconeri during this time-frame.

Player to Watch

Federico Chiesa

The Italian international is a match winner on his day and will be held responsible to lead the Juventus attack on the night. With both Arkadiusz Milik and Dusan Vlahovic unavailable, the crux of footing the attacking responsibility will fall on the left flank. ............

Prediction

Lazio 1-1 Juventus

Both teams are far from convincing, and it remains to be seen what work was done behind the scenes during the international break. However, Lazio are yet to buy into their new manager’s plans and could find it difficult to get get off the mark on the night. Whether Juventus can take advantage remains the question. The Hard Tackle predicts a 1-1 draw.

Adam Marusic’s late goal downs underwhelming Juventus in Rome

Serie A | Lazio 1-0 Juventus: Marusic for dream Tudor debut

Max Allegri deployed a 4-3-3 formation at the start of the game, with Mattia de Sciglio returning to the back four alongside Danilo, Gleison Bremer, and Daniele Rugani. In the attacking third, Federico Chiesa spearheaded a front three alongside Moise Kean and Andrea Cambiaso, emphasising Juventus’ determination to secure a victory.

Despite Lazio initially posing a significant threat, Chiesa’s adaptation to the forward line showcased promise for Juventus. However, a moment of hesitation from Wojciech Szczęsny nearly led to a costly error, highlighting the fragility of Juventus’ defence. ............

Following a goalless first half, Allegri implemented tactical adjustments, introducing Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior while reverting to a 3-5-2 formation. Iling-Junior’s involvement in a near-scoring opportunity epitomised Juventus’ resurgence in the second half. ............

In a last-ditch effort to secure a victory, Allegri substituted Moise Kean for Nikola Sekulov, signalling Juventus’ urgency for a breakthrough. However, Lazio capitalised on Juventus’ vulnerabilities, with Marusic’s late goal securing a victory for Lazio and highlighting Juventus’ shortcomings on Igor Tudor’s managerial debut.

Juventus 0 - Lazio 1: Initial reaction and random observations

Well, that was disappointing yet somewhat predictable.

FBL-ITA-SERIEA-LAZIO-JUVENTUS

You needed to look no further than the expression on Federico Chiesa’s face as he was subbed off right as the 68th minute turned to the 68th minute Saturday night.

It was that of a man who was probably frustrated with his own individual performance, but also that with his team. And with how his team played, you couldn’t fault Chiesa for feeling the way he felt as he strolled to the Juventus dugout at the Stadio Olimpico and took a couple of swigs of water as he took his seat.

And it wasn’t the most disgruntled look we’d see from Chiesa all night.

That’s because little did we know about 25 minutes later Juventus were about to see their terrible run of form only continue in the worst possible way. Just when it looked like Max Allegri’s squad would, somehow, get a point against Lazio in Igor Tudor’s debut as manager in the capital city, it was one last defensive mistake that allowed one point to go by the wayside and out the window. Adam Marusic’s header right before the final whistled sounded not only gave Lazio the 1-0 victory, but extended Juventus’ run of form to just one win in nine games, something that has only continued to make a Champions League spot even the more of a delicate situation.

So, to update the count of where things stand:

  • One win in the last nine games
  • Seven points in the last nine games
  • More losses (2) in the last four games than Juventus had the first five months of the 2023-24 season.
  • One clean sheet recorded since the middle of January ............

Most of the players are struggling. The manager, even with a change in formation, isn’t doing much of anything right to try and get this team back on its feet. And the more that these negative results continue to roll on, the more that a season that was being talked about as one that involved title contention 2 12 months ago is now a deal where we’re just praying — and I don’t. even considering myself a religious fella! — they don’t let a Champions League spot go up in smoke as a result of all this.

Things weren’t any better Saturday night. Juventus didn’t look any better than they have in the previous eight games. The change of formation was just that — a change of how the team lined up and nothing more than that. Juve still sat deep and still struggled to string passes together on a consistent basis. This is nothing new, and it’s getting hard to not say it during these posts because it’s really the only thing to say about this team other than “they played like crap again.” ............

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • Juve put three shots on target against a 22-year-old backup goalkeeper who was third string to start the season and was playing for a mid-table team in Greece this time last season. I don’t know about you, but that is the kind of situation in which you’d might want to push forward to see what the dude has. Instead, he was barely tested all game long. ............
  • Juventus’ first shot on goal came in the 41st minute. Good times.
  • That shot on goal and the movement right before it, from Adrien Rabiot Federico Chiesa, were Juve’s second and third TOUCH in the Lazio box all game long. I repeat: The second and third touch in the box for the entire game. So it took over 40 minutes for Juve to record more than one touch in the Lazio box. ............
  • Like I get that you don’t know what this Tudor-coached team is going to do because you hadn’t seen them as a team before, but you’ve got a manager who has managed against him on your payroll and knows what to expect when it comes to the general patterns of play. Instead, what you got was the same old nonsense and Lazio wholeheartedly deserved to win. Juventus didn’t deserve a point with how they played. They deserved to lose, and they got it.
  • This team’s confidence is absolutely shot and it’s been like that for weeks.
  • The switch to the 4-3-3 only meant so much. Chiesa was isolated out on the wings with nobody really there to help him most of the time. The tactics, at times, seemed to be to get Chiesa the ball and hope for the best. That’s not effective. That’s predictable. And Lazio, smartly, defended it as such. Sure, Chiesa is out of form and we hoped that getting back out on the wing in a 4-3-3 would be the cure, but when you’re constantly double or triple teamed by your opponent, there’s only so much you can do.
  • Also, I get that saying the switch to a 4-3-3 only happened because of Mattia De Sciglio, but if that’s the case then Allegri truly is a sicko in the worst possible way.
  • That switch to a 4-3-3 last all of one half, by the way.
  • This was a bad game for a lot of people wearing a Juventus jersey, but I think it’s safe to say Manuel Locatelli had one of the worst days. I’m struggling to remember a game in which his passing was that off and that ineffective.
  • Same goes for Fabio Miretti. Subbing him off at halftime and bringing on Weston McKennie was the right move.
  • So many misplaced passes and completed passes that lead to nothing. Where have i seen this before. ............
  • They cut to Cristiano Giuntoli sitting in the stands midway through the first half and that man did not look happy at all. Can only imagine what he was thinking as time went on, let alone when the final whistle sounded. He obviously knew the scope of the job he was taking, but to go from free-flowing Napoli to this version of Juventus ... it’s not great.
  • I’m still wondering why, of all people, Nikola Sekulov is the one marking Marusic at such an important moment. Like, what’s the point? That’s just bad decision making all around.
  • Breaking news: Andrea Cambiaso is not a winger and should not continue to play there. We’ve dealt with Chiesa playing out of position for the better part of the last two seasons now, so we don’t need to see another Italian talent in his mid-20s suddenly doing the same.  ............

Allegri refuses to blame his players for the loss to Lazio

Juventus Player Ratings vs Lazio: More Woes for Dreadful Bianconeri

Max Allegri has refused to blame his Juventus players after their loss to Lazio this evening.

The Bianconeri returned from the international break keen to ensure they returned to form, but they ended up on the losing side again.

It has been a tough few weeks for the Old Lady, and the game against Lazio did not indicate any improvement. ............

“Fortunately, we have a points advantage over fifth, so we need to continue working to achieve it, we must achieve it and we will achieve the objective of going to the Champions League also if it was the last day. I have absolutely nothing to blame the boys for, we made some mistakes technically, it wasn’t easy, it’s not an easy moment and we need to get through this moment and turn it around. Now on Tuesday, we have Lazio in the Cup semi-final again Italy and I believe we will have the chance to do well.” ............

“This is not Juventus” Journalist reacts to Juventus loss to Lazio

LazioJuventus.jpg

Juventus’ loss to Lazio this evening has extended their poor run of form as the Bianconeri continue to drop points in the race to finish in the top four. ............

Juve is now sliding further away from the Serie A top four, and journalist Vincenzo Marangio is not impressed with the current Old Lady team.

He said:

“I would like to see a manager next to Allegri also in the press conference. Although I hope they speak as late as possible. This is not Juventus. Continuing to defend everything and everyone doesn’t work. We need to make the team face their responsibilities. Vlahovic yes he was kicked out in a bad way, Chiesa is no longer him and Yildiz seems to be in regression. We need to get out of this slumber. What Juventus is experiencing is apathy.” ............

Szczesny says Juventus has lost something as he targets the Italian Cup

szczesny.jpg

Wojciech Szczesny was in goal as Juventus lost yet another game, continuing their terrible form in the last two months. ............

Juve has suffered a serious fall from the top spot in the league, and Szczesny says they have lost something.

Asked if he would consider winning the Coppa Italia a success, he said:

“Now, yes, two months ago, I would have said no. The Italian Cup remains the only trophy we can bring home, we know how important it is for everyone. The Champions League is also an important goal for everyone. In terms of energy, the group was full of energy for 6 or 7 months because we had the championship dream, we did well in the first part of the season, then when this dream slipped away, we lost something. But this cannot be an excuse because achieving a victory in 9 games is not something for Juventus.” ............

Juventus Player Ratings vs Lazio: More Woes for Dreadful Bianconeri

Max Allegri Urges Juventus to Bounce Back After Another Upset -

Juventus (4-3-3)

Wojciech Szczesny – 5.5

 ............

Danilo – 6

The Juventus captain fought hard at the back, but one would expect more attacking support from someone playing at right-back on paper.

Gleison Bremer – 5.5

The Brazilian lost track of Taty Castellanos in the early going but then asserted control in the area, but still had caused Bianconeri fans some scares including an incident that could have yielded a spot-kick.

Daniele Rugani – 6

 ............

Mattia De Sciglio – 5

The former Milan fullback was understandably rusty after an 11-month layoff so he had a rough time at the back, though he helped create Chiesa’s dangerous first-half chance.

Fabio Miretti – 5

 ............

Manuel Locatelli – 5.5

 ............

Adrien Rabiot – 6

 ............

Andrea Cambiaso – 5.5

The new Italy international played in an unconventional position as a right winger and struggled to offer his contribution on either end of the pitch.

Moise Kean – 6

The Italian striker remains without a goal this season, but his hardworking ethics didn’t go unnoticed. Did well to push his team forward but never had a clear chance on goal.

Federico Chiesa – 6

The Euro 2020 winner had some moments of brilliance and also produced the most dangerous Juventus chance in the first half. But it remains insufficient considering his high standards.

Substitutes

Weston McKennie – 6

The American added some energy in the final third but it wasn’t enough for Juventus. He couldn’t block Mateo Guendouzi’s cross that led to the winner.

Samuel Iling-Junior – 4.5

 ............

Timothy Weah – 5

 ............

Kenan Yildiz – 5.5

The Turkish teenager only had a few touches and squandered a promising chance.

Nikola Sekulov – 5

Sadly for the winger, his senior debut ended on a devastating note as he failed to properly track Marusic.

“If we can’t handle the pressure, we ought to play five-a-side” – Szczesny delivers wake-up call

In The Aftermath Of Juventus Losing Against Lazio, Szczesny Is Not Compact With His Own Coach

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny had a stern message to his teammates following last night’s defeat to Lazio.

The 33-year-old is one of the most experienced players in the squad and a locker-room leader. ............

“This is a moment that makes you understand that each of us must give more for Juventus,” said the Poland international in his post-match interview.

“We are aware that in the last two months, we have not done enough. It is a negative, hard moment that hurts us all. ............

“As for the group, I cannot say anything. The boys are training very well, they’re hungry but the results aren’t coming.

“Everyone has to do more, but we don’t lack the desire to do well.” ............

“We are Juventus, if you don’t believe in the scudetto you can’t play for the club.

“Everyone must learn to cope with the pressure, which is the best aspect in football.

“If we can’t handle the pressure, we ought to play five-a-side football rather than representing Juventus,” concluded the goalkeeper.

Fabrizio Ravanelli says Juventus is playing with no personality

Last-gasp Marusic goal gives Lazio 1-0 home win over Juventus | The Straits Times

Fabrizio Ravanelli criticized Juventus following their loss to Lazio in Serie A yesterday.

The Bianconeri have been consistently dropping points in the league, putting their position in the top four at risk.

While Juventus currently holds a Champions League place, it’s largely due to their strong performance in the first half of the season. ............

“Juve has been very disappointing in recent weeks. A team that plays with fear and without ideas , as well as the wrong formation and substitutions. To wear the Juve shirt you need great personality. Instead, I see the players with a scared and resigned face on the pitch. The goal by Marusic? A very serious mistake by Locatelli and McKennie rather than by Sekulov.” ............

Adani accuses Juventus players of lacking commitment to winning

Lazio-Juventus 1-0: Marusic la vince allo scadere, Allegri crolla alla 500a in Serie A - Eurosport

Juventus is now winless in four consecutive games, hitting a rough patch at the worst possible time in the season.

The Bianconeri displayed exceptional form in the first half of the term, but 2024 has proven to be a dismal year for them.

Their recent poor form, with just one win in their last nine games, ranks among the worst in the division over the past few weeks and poses a significant threat to their top-four aspirations. ............

Daniele Adani has now responded to their recent struggles, accusing the Bianconeri players of lacking the commitment necessary to secure victories.

“Going back to what Szczesny was saying, it seems strange to me that there is little assumption of responsibility. It doesn’t mean that commitment is lacking. , the attention, which I don’t question, absolutely zero. Indeed, it was the commitment that even when you didn’t play well you scored goals.”

“However, there is little assumption of responsibility on the part of the coach and the club they must raise awareness of a path that is negative, not sufficient. Juventus does not play in European cups, they should have been more competitive. There is a lot to do to change and reverse a course that is not in keeping with history, the fans and the history of Allegri himself.” ............

Pundit insists Allegri must find a solution to Juventus problems

allegri-v-sevilla.jpg

Juventus is currently facing a severe crisis, with mounting pressure on the manager to reverse the club’s fortunes.

Max Allegri’s tenure at the club is likely approaching its conclusion, with this season possibly ending on a disappointing note. ............

These past few weeks have been particularly tough for the club, and according to pundit and former player Ubaldo Righetti, the responsibility for turning things around squarely rests on the manager’s shoulders.

He said:

“Did I expect this result? There was a risk. Juventus’ defensive line is experienced, but otherwise the average age, even with those who took over, is very low. It was said that the club must make itself heard, but if it has to make itself heard with 21-22 year old players it is difficult to expect a reaction. It is Allegri who must have the ability to find a solution. With this type of attitude Once upon a time Juve were rewarded, today they are not rewarded. Before they found the result even if it wasn’t pleasant, nice, being there, collected. Now there has been an upheaval in the team.” ............

Italian journalist on new Juventus formation: “Allegri sold us a false 4-3-3”

Juventus Kalah 0-1 dari Lazio, Allegri: Kami Tetap Berjuang untuk Liga Champions! : Okezone Bola

Italian journalist Roberto Beccantini argues that Max Allegri tried to fool the public by claiming to adopt a more attacking formation. ............

On paper, Allegri fielded a 4-3-3 lineup against Lazio, spearheaded by Moise Kean, with Federico Chiesa on the left and Andrea Cambiaso on the right side.

Nevertheless, the result was more of the same, with Juventus struggling to make an impact in the final third. ............

But according to Beccantini, the tactical change was more of a charade on Allegri’s part. The journalist insists that Juventus changed little in their approach despite what the lineup suggested.

“From the twisted sheets of two teams in crisis, only the most motivated, most stubborn one could emerge alive,” noted Beccantini in his post-match analysis.

“That is why Lazio won, in the 93rd minute, on a cross from Guendouzi (a substitute) and a header from Marusic, who stole a march on Sekulov (also a substitute).

“In his first appearance in the Lazio dugout, Igor Tudor dropped Maurizio Sarri’s dogmas, mixed up a few cards and made some interesting tweaks.

“Max, on the other hand, sold us a false 4-3-3 formation, with the return of De Sciglio and the advancement of Cambiaso. Kean was only holding the door and Chiesa was throwing himself on the crumbs.

“The tactical modules are like slices of bread. It depends on how you fill them.”

Preview: Juventus vs. Lazio - prediction, team news, lineups

JuveFC on X: "‼️The Coppa Italia semi final dates between Juventus and Lazio has been confirmed: 1st leg: Juventus 🆚Lazio on April 2nd 2nd leg: Lazio 🆚 Juventus on April 23rd. #Juventus

Juventus and Lazio face off three days after their league meeting in the first match of a two-legged Coppa Italia semi-final at the Allianz Stadium on Tuesday.

The Old Lady paid the price for an overly passive approach in Saturday's Serie A clash, as Igor Tudor's reign in charge of the Biancocelesti began with a victory against his old side, adding more pressure on Massimiliano Allegri before this week's game.

Match preview

Allegri's below-par start to 2024 took another negative turn on Saturday when Juventus failed to score in consecutive league matches, having their winless run extend to four games.

The downturn in Turin since the turn of the year has been astonishing, with the Bianconeri winning just one match — a 3-2 victory over Serie A-struggling Frosinone on February 25 — since beating Lecce 3-0 on January 21.

Picking seven points from nine league games has seen an unexpected Scudetto challenge go up in smoke. However, Allegri insists that Champions League qualification, which he always maintained was the target even when they kept pace with Inter Milan at the top, will be attained at the season's culmination.

The Old Lady seek reprieve in the Coppa Italia, keen to add silverware to a possible Champions League return, even if they must get past a Lazio side that stung them late on at the Olimpico on Saturday through Adam Marusic's last-gasp winner for the capital club.

Juventus have made it to seven of the last nine Coppa Italia finals, and Allegri hopes history stands them in good stead as the out-of-form giants aim for a positive result in Tuesday's game to put them in a strong position heading into the reverse fixture on April 23. ............

Team News

Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic celebrates scoring their second goal with Federico Chiesa on February 25, 2024© Reuters

Dusan Vlahovic should return to the lineup after serving a one-match suspension for his sending-off against Genoa a fortnight back.

Allegri surprisingly changed tack by utilising a 4-3-3 at the Olimpico instead of the typical 3-5-2, and it remains to be seen if the Juventus boss sticks to that approach or reverts to a back three on Tuesday.

Paul Pogba is suspended for a doping-related offence, while Nicolo Fagioli is nearing the end of a seven-month ban for violating betting guidelines. Injury absentees could include Arkadiusz MilikAlex Sandro and Carlos Alcaraz, while Filip Kostic is touch-and-go for this week.  ............

Juventus possible starting lineup:
Perin; Danilo, Bremer, Gatti; Weah, McKennie, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Vlahovic, Chiesa (Yildiz)

Lazio possible starting lineup:
Mandas; Casale, Romagnoli, Gila; Marusic, Kamada, Cataldi, Pellegrini; Zaccagni, Alberto; Immobile

We say: Juventus 1-1 Lazio

Nothing is expected to be decided on Tuesday, with neither Allegri nor Tudor going all out to win the first leg in Turin. This could see both sides play out a cagey stalemate, leaving all to play for on April 23.

Chiesa and Vlahovic give Juventus advantage in Coppa Italia semi-final

225945587-b02777ef-07a7-4e69-9715-a3fee4d97655.jpg

Juventus started the game looking for a quick goal and had some chances, but they never came close to scoring inside the first ten minutes.

Two minutes later, the Bianconeri thought they had a penalty when Matias Vecino brought down Federico Chiesa; however, after a VAR review, the penalty was overturned. ............

The teams could not be separated at the break, and Max Allegri had a big halftime talk to make.

Whatever he said during the break worked as Juve scored five minutes after the restart when Chiesa drilled the ball into the bottom right corner in trademark fashion.

After Weston McKennie came close to doubling Juventus’ lead, Dusan Vlahovic did and hit it sweetly into the bottom left corner after a deft assist from the American. ............

Both teams could not find another goal in added time, and Juve held on to win and return to winning ways, but this is just the first half in the tie.

Juventus (3-5-2)

Mattia Perin – 6

 ............

Federico Gatti – 6.5

The former Frosinone man began his outing by inadvertently injuring Mattia Zaccagni. Despite being rash at times, it was a solid and composed display at the back.

Gleison Bremer – 7

The resolute Brazilian defender never gave Ciro Immobile or his substitute Taty Castellanos a yard of space. Another defensive masterclass.

Danilo – 6.5

The Juventus captain was always there to pull off timely interceptions and clear the ball out of danger.

Andrea Cambiaso – 7.5

A brilliant display from the former Genoa man who created Chiesa’s opener almost out of nothing by eclipsing his markers and putting Chiesa through on goal with a fabulous long ball. This was only the highlight of a grand outing.

Weston McKennie – 7.5

The USMNT star ran his socks off and covered every yard of the pitch with his non-stop running. Won the ball on countless occasions and provided the assist for Vlahovic.

Manuel Locatelli – 6

 ............

Adrien Rabiot – 7

A commanding display in the middle of the park from the Frenchman who had the better of his compatriot Mateo Guendouzi. Played an integral role in the second goal.

Filip Kostic – 6

 ............

Dusan Vlahovic – 8

The former Fiorentina man displayed just how clinical he can be by scoring from his solitary chance. He was also a thorn in the back of Alessio Romagnoli and company throughout the match, and showcased his dedication to the cause by constantly tracking back and covering for his teammates. Max Allegri will be proud.

Federico Chiesa – 7.5

The Italian star took his chance brilliantly, leaving the Lazio goalkeeper with no chance. On his day, he remains the biggest source of creativity for Juventus.

Substitutes

Kenan Yildiz – 6.5

The Turkish teenager kept the pressure on the Lazio backline following his introduction. Pulled off some breathtaking dribbles.

Timothy Weah – 6

 ............

Moise Kean – N/A

Alex Sandro – N/A

Carlos Alcaraz – N/A
