Juventus 2022-23 Season Review: Black and White Rollercoasters

Fabbri-Juventus-protests-Napoli-2304.jpg

Position: 7th

Points: 62 (-10)

Previous season: 4th, 70 points

Best Serie A scorer: Dusan Vlahovic, 10 goals in 27 games

Rating: 5.5/10

Season overview

Juventus’ campaign was a rollercoaster. The Bianconeri collected poor results in the first part of the season and when they seemed to have recovered, they lost 5-1 to Napoli at the Stadio Maradona in January and were hit by a 15-point penalty which initially stunned the team. Max Allegri’s men lost to Monza in the first match after the sentence which CONI temporarily overturned in April. The FIGC court revised the sanction, punishing Juventus with a 10-point deduction with three games remaining, pushing the Old Lady to the seventh spot. On paper, they’ll play in the Conference League next season, but it remains to be seen if UEFA will ban them from European competitions.

Turnaround moment

It wasn’t a single game, but an entire month, January, which was dreadful for the Old Lady. The 5-1 defeat in Naples was a massive blow for the Bianconeri who had won the previous seven Serie A matches without conceding. The streak included a 2-0 win over Inter and a 3-0 victory against Lazio at the Allianz Stadium. Many thought another win at the Stadio Maradona would have allowed Juventus to get back into the title race, but Luciano Spalletti’s men hammered the Turin giants leaving them no breath for 90 minutes and proving the huge gap between the two sides this term. It was followed by a 3-3 draw against Atalanta and the home defeat to Monza, days after FIGC confirmed a 15-point penalty.

The coach – Massimiliano Allegri

It’s been far from easy for Allegri, who was and is still dealing with criticism from most Juventus fans. The Bianconeri’s playing style was poor and the results were even worst given that they ended the second consecutive trophyless campaign. Allegri’s biggest merit, however, was to isolate the team when FIGC hit them with a 15-point penalty. The impact was shocking, but Juventus didn’t crumble in the following months and would have ended third without the final 10-point deduction. Allegri sees it as an improvement, Juventus fans not so much, but Max will remain in charge in 2023-24 also given his hefty €7m-a-year contract, which runs out in 2025.

Juventus hopes to save 140m euros this summer

Allianz Stadium

Juventus is currently undergoing a transition not only in terms of players but also in the club’s leadership.

The current board of directors took office at the beginning of the year and inherited a significant mess at the Allianz Stadium, which they are still working diligently to rectify.

Although Juventus is widely regarded as one of the top clubs in the world, the fact that they will not be competing in the Champions League next season represents a major setback to their financial stability.

In an effort to regain its financial footing, the black-and-white club is now focused on making sustainable decisions before the start of the next campaign.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the board of directors has set a target to save 140 million euros this summer, which indicates they may need to reduce their salary expenditure and potentially offload some key players. ........

How Giuntoli could leave Napoli for Juventus

Giuntoli-Twitter.jpg.webp

Cristiano Giuntoli’s priority is to leave Napoli to head to Juventus and a solution may have been found to resolve his contract situation, La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport reports.

The 51-year-old director has been with the Partenopei since 2015 and played a key role in the club’s rise to their third ever Scudetto, helping to bring in stars like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Victor Osimhen and Kim Min-Jae.

In the final weeks of the season, at the height of Napoli’s Scudetto celebrations, reports began to emerge discussing Giuntoli’s desire to leave Campania this summer in order to join Juventus, who are embarking on a new post-Andrea Agnelli era.

As detailed by La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport via Calciomercato.com, Giuntoli has been unable to complete his move to Juventus due to his contract situation with Napoli. His deal with the club expires in 2024 and Aurelio De Laurentiis has no desire to let him head to Turin this summer.

Currently, the situation is seeing everyone lose out; Juventus have hardly made significant progress in the transfer market due to their uncertain position, Giuntoli has no decision making power at Napoli and only found out about Rudi Garcia’s appointment through social media, and the Partenopei have been unable to appoint a replacement to start working on the next steps.

Juventus are not willing to pay any compensation to free up Giuntoli, leaving the ball in the director’s court. He’s met with De Laurentiis several times but failed to convince him to break things off, but now a solution has emerged.

The Napoli sporting director could offer to waive various financial aspects, including the salary of the last year of his contract, various add-ons linked to this season and general payments, which totals around €4-5m gross.

It’s now up to De Laurentiis to make a decision. For now, the prospect of a mutual contract termination at the end of the summer cannot be ruled out still.

Giuntoli will join Juventus but the timing remains uncertain: The three hypothesis

Giuntoli

At the end of the day, Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli will leave the Southern City to join Juventus.

But while the Bianconeri have an agreement in place with the 51-year-old, the timing of his passage from Naples to Turin remains mysterious.

The executive who led the Partenopei towards a historic Scudetto title is looking for a new adventure. However, he still has one year left on his Napoli contract.

According to La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport, Giuntoli is already an outcast at Napoli. He wasn’t even consulted prior to the appointment of Rudi Garcia as head coach following the departure of Luciano Spalletti.

But although the director is willing to give up on around four million euros (between wages and bonuses) to join Juventus, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis could block his exit.

So as the source explains, the Partenopei patron will decide Giuntoli’s fate. ...

Either way, the report expects Giuntoli to land at Juventus either this summer or in 2024.

Finally, the source proposes a third scenario, somewhere in between the first two. This one would see the sporting director arriving in Turin at the end of August, meaning that the Bianconeri would have to rely on Giovanni Manna as an interim director during the summer transfer market.

Juventus set to promote high-profile

18-year-old to the first team

Kenan Yildiz

Kenan Yildiz has shown significant progress since joining Juventus, and he is expected to become a part of the first-team squad starting next season. The young player swiftly moved up the ranks, progressing from the U19 side to the Next Gen team last season.

Max Allegri, along with other first-team coaches, has been closely monitoring Yildiz’s development, and they believe he is ready to be integrated into the senior squad. According to a report on Il Bianconero, Yildiz could be included in the first-team plans for the upcoming season, particularly if he performs well during pre-season preparations.

Giuntoli prepared to give up as much as 4m euros to join Juventus

Giuntoli

Cristiano Giuntoli is reportedly eager to leave his position as director at Napoli and pursue a career as the sporting director of Juventus. However, the transition is proving to be challenging.

Giuntoli has achieved remarkable success in his role at Napoli, helping the team win the league, and he wants to make the move while his accomplishments are still fresh. He recognises that the opportunity to work for Juventus is a rare one, and if he misses it now, it may be difficult for him to find a similar chance in the future.

Negotiations are underway between Giuntoli and Napoli’s leadership regarding his departure. According to giornalaccio rosa, Giuntoli is willing to forego the bonuses he earned for the team’s successful season and the salary he would have received in the final year of his contract. This would result in a savings of over 4 million euros for Aurelio de Laurentiis, the president of Napoli. Despite this, De Laurentiis remains reluctant to grant Giuntoli permission to leave.

Juventus willing to give Conference League as part of plea bargain with UEFA

Ferrero Scanavino

After settling their domestic legal issues, Juventus will now turn their attention to the continental scene.

The Bianconeri received a 10-point deduction in the Capital Gains trial which saw them drop from 3rd to 7th in the Serie A standings.

So instead of securing a Champions League spot, the Old Lady had to settle for a place in Europe’s third-tier competition.

Nevertheless, Juventus aren’t too eager to take part in the Conference League, so they’ll be willing to give up their spot in a bargain plea with UEFA. ...

Therefore, they could be facing the wrath of European football’s governing body. As we all know, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has been lurking in the shadows, waiting for the opportunity to make the Bianconeri pay for their Super League “rebellion”.

So while this could be the perfect chance for Ceferin to strike, the new Juventus management might be willing to extend an olive branch.

The new Bianconeri directors have already alluded to a possible renunciation of the Super League project, which would bring the club back to UEFA’s good graces.

Therefore, the Italian giants could get their bargain plea after all, and they would be happy to sacrifice the Conference League next season if it means starting with a clean sheet in the campaigns to follow.

Juventus reach agreement with UEFA over Conference League participation

Europa Conference League

Last season, a 10-point deduction in the Plusvalenza trial denied Juventus a spot in the next edition of the Champions League. The club dropped from third to seventh in the Serie A standings.

While their league position would theoretically grant them access to the Conference League, Juventus might be willing to sacrifice it.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport via ilBianconero, Juventus and UEFA have found an agreement that would see the club drop out of the Conference League.

Due to the club’s financial and legal troubles that emerged onto the scene in the Plusvalenza and Prisma inquiries, the Bianconeri may have infringed UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules.

Therefore, the club’s new hierarchy intends to open a new chapter by signing a plea bargain with the European football’s governing body.

UEFA will thus ban Juventus from participating in next season’s Conference League while the club pledges not to appeal to the CAS.

The new Adidas Juventus away kit has been released – and it's going to be divisive

The new Adidas Juventus away kit is one of the shirts of the summer, with its reference to club culture and local geography

New Juventus away kit 23/24

Adidas's new Juventus away kit has been released – and it may well divide opinion.

The Italians know their style but after the German manufacturer went big and bold with the zebra strips and bright yellow, they've not exactly played it safe for the away top.

Juventus have a history of wearing pink as a change strip. Arguably their most iconic away top in recent history was pink – 2015/16's effort, later reworked for the Adidas x Pharrell humanrace special effort – so perhaps Juve fans won't be shocked to see huge bands of pale pink across this one.

It's bold, bright and actually, rooted in club culture. Juventus's customary stripes are turned 90 degrees for rugby-style hoops on this one – and if you look closely, they're actually mountainous-patterned bands across the top rather than thick blocks of colour. That's, of course, to represent the Alps on the outskirts of Turin.

Juventus’ friendly canceled due to Barcelona players having ‘viral gastroenteritis’

Juventus Travel To San Francisco

Just as they did a summer ago, Juventus arrived in the United States about 24 hours before their first friendly stateside was set to kick off. Unlike this time last summer, they won’t actually have a game to play during the third weekend of July — and it’s nothing of their own doing.

Barcelona announced about eight hours before kickoff in Santa Clara (not San Francisco) that they have canceled their friendly to begin the Soccer Champions Tour against Juventus because “significant part of the blaugrana squad has a viral gastroenteritis.” That means Juve is suddenly down to just two games in the U.S., the first of which will come on Thursday, July 27, against rival AC Milan in Los Angeles. ......

In place of the friendly, Juventus have announced that they will hold an open training session at Levi’s Stadium at 6:30 p.m. local time. Juve didn’t take part in a training session Friday evening as had previously been planned due to their late arrival into the Bay Area.

From Rovella to De Winter: 13 Juventus players looking to impress in USA

and lock spots for next season

Rovella Juve, dalla tentazione di Allegri al Monza: cosa succede

This summer, almost any Juventus player could leave the club for the right offer. This includes top stars like Dusan Vlahovic, Federico Chiesa and Paul Pogba.

But aside from the big names, there are 13 players who are hoping to impress Max Allegri during the US tour and cement themselves a spot in next season’s squad.

We begin with Weston McKennie who probably joined the US tour for marketing reasons. .....

On the contrary, Nicolò Rovella will likely remain in Turin following an exciting spell at Monza, unless the club receives an irresistible offer.

For his part, Hans Nicolussi Caviglia could embark on another Serie A loan spell, potentially at Frosinone. The same goes for Fabio Miretti, especially if a new midfielder (like Franck Kessié) were to arrive.

On the other hand, young wingbacks Samuel Iling-Junior and Andrea Cambiaso will likely remain at the club, unless Juventus receive lucrative bids.

Young Argentines Matias Soulé and Enzo Barrenechea could leave Turin in search of additional playing time. ....

As for Koni De Winter, he may take advantage of Leonardo Bonucci’s ousting to remain at the club as a backup option in defense.

Finally, Allegri brought with him four Next Gen starlets in the shape of Dean HuijsenKenan YildizCyril Ngong and Giovanni Daffara. ......

Juventus is preparing for a :54: UEFA :54: ban in European competitions

UEFA

Juventus is currently awaiting feedback from UEFA regarding an investigation into their use of capital gains and potential breach of Financial Fair Play regulations. The European governing body’s investigation comes as a result of years of poor decision-making by the club’s previous board of directors, which has led to troubles for the team in recent times. ......

With the possibility of a UEFA ban in mind, Juventus is already preparing for the worst-case scenario and anticipating a ban from European competitions. The club’s mindset is to be prepared not to participate in the Conference League if necessary. ......

Juventus 2 (4) - AC Milan 2 (3): Initial reaction and random observations

THE WRATH OF CARLO PINSOGLIO HAS BEEN FELT BY THOSE AT AC MILAN

Juventus v AC Milan - Pre-Season Friendly

The first friendly of the summertime is always a difficult one to try and read much in to no matter what the state of Juventus is at that time. It’s especially difficult to do just that when the team you write about doesn’t actually play its first friendly and its second friendly then becomes its first friendly as a result. ....

Juve evened things up with rivals AC Milan twice in Southern California, ultimately beating them 4-3 on penalties thanks to a pair of big saves from Carlo Pinsoglio. Yes, that is very much something that you probably shouldn’t be surprised to read in a recap of things from a friendly played in the final week of July because, ultimately, if Pinsoglio — no matter how much we love him and want him to be the life of all of our parties — is having to do such a thing in a penalty shootout that actually counts then it signals just what kind of dire straights Juve may be in at the time. But come Thursday night, it was Juve’s No. 3 goalkeeper and a hodgepodge of PK takers who started things off on a winning note this summer even though the results probably don’t mean as much as some want you to believe. ....

On this night, though, there were some good things that happened well before Pinsoglio was saving penalties and doing it with a giant smile on his face.

Was the overall team performance all that great? No, not by any means. This was decent at times, but pretty not-great for a lot of other phases of the game.

But when you see Federico Chiesa buzzing around and growing into the game like he did prior to his knee injury, that’s a good sign.

When you see Timothy Weah, in his first appearance playing for the club that his legendary dad loves some much, is flashing his big-time speed and creating a good number of chances on the right wing, that’s a good sign.

When you see Dean Huijsen at all of 18 years old showing absolutely no fear and going strong into challenges, playing with poise, taking a crack at goal and then scoring a penalty in the kind of fashion he did, that’s a good sign.

When you see Federico Gatti unable to get his head to the ball and Milan scoring a pair of goals because of it, that’s ... wait, that’s not a good sign. ...

  • Don’t lie, you know you at least cracked a smile when you saw everybody congratulating Pinsoglio after Matias Soulé’s penalty won it for Juventus. It’s a friendly, but for a guy like Pinsoglio to get a little bit of shine is never a bad thing no matter if the game counts or not. ....
  • I’m guessing Pinsoglio being named man of the match is something he’s not going to let the likes of Tek Szczesny and Mattia Perin forget about — at all. Pinso won the day, that’s for damn sure.
  • OK, OK. Federico Chiesa also won the day with how he played. And boy, as much as I want to contain my excitement after his performance because it was for all of about 50 minutes or so and there will certainly be transfer rumors involving him over the next few weeks, seeing him play with that pace, that aggressiveness and yet also that kind of control was certainly a great sight. Is Chiesa being fielded as a striker optimal? No, of course not. But Chiesa being at the center of the majority of good things Juve did in attack or on the counter, that’s a very good development.
  • Seeing Chiesa with wide open spaces in front of him and then create a handful of scoring chances, that’s what you want from your most dynamic attacking player. We’ll see how things go going forward, but on this night we saw plenty of flashes of pre-injury Chiesa. .....
  • In all seriousness, it was a baptism of fire of sorts for Timothy Weah — not only was he looked to contribute to the attack but also had the task of trying to stop one of the most dynamic attacking forces in Serie A in the form of Leao. It wasn’t pretty, but I’m guessing that Weah is going to be watch a whole lot of film of this one to try and make sure his next meeting with Leao goes a little smoother. .....

Allegri satisfied with Juventus display against Milan in pre-season friendly

11623581-e1690531686613.jpg.webp

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said that he was satisfied with his team’s performance during their penalty shootout win over Milan during their pre-season friendly in Los Angeles in the early hours of Friday morning.

The two sides had been held at 2-2 after regular time at the Dignity Health Sports Park, regular home of LA Galaxy, thanks to goals from Danilo, Malick Thiaw, Olivier Giroud and Daniele Rugani.

Juve then pipped the Rossoneri on spot kicks, with Matias Soule delivering the winner in sudden death.

Following the cancellation of their scheduled friendly with Barcelona on Saturday, this was the first official pre-season friendly of the summer for Allegri and his team.

Speaking after the final whistle, the Bianconeri boss said: “We had a good workout, Milan already had a match under their belts. Winning helps, the guys performed well. Last year we finished third in the standings, that’s a good place to build from. ....

Three Juventus things learned in friendly win against Milan

Miretti-Reijders-2307-Juve-Milan.png.webp

Juventus emerged victorious after prevailing on penalties over Milan in their first pre-season friendly in the USA. The Soccer Champions Tour match finished 2-2 after 90 minutes as Bianconeri defenders Danilo and replacement Daniele Rugani cancelled out goals from Malick Thiaw and Olivier Giroud.

Matias Soule struck the winning spot kick as Juve won 4-3 on penalties at the Dignity Health Sports Park in the city of Carson, Los Angeles County. Juve had been scheduled to face Barcelona in the first game of the Soccer Champions Tour but the Catalan club called the game off due to a bout of viral gastroenteritis in their squad.

It was an early morale boost for coach Massimilano Allegri as he fielded a strong starting line-up before making wholesale changes just before the hour mark. .....

Chiesa excels on the wing

Italian international Federico Chiesa was deployed alongside Moise Kean up front in a 3-5-2 formation but constantly drifted out to the left flank. It’s not the first time Allegri has used the hugely talented 25-year-old as a central attacker. ....

Promising start for Weah

Only so much can be gleaned from a non-competitive fixture yet the American international added a different dimension for Juve on the right wing. Purposeful, speedy and direct he set up Chiesa with a precise cross in the opening period and looked a potent attacking outlet in a 59-minute run out in the home stadium of MLS club LA Galaxy. .....

Set-piece worries

Both Milan goals came from dead ball positions as the Juventus back-line was easily outmanoeuvred in an entertaining first half. While hardly a major concern at this stage of pre-season the defensive trio of Federico Gatti, Gleison Bremer and Danilo didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory as the Rossoneri twice took the lead. There were early signs of rustiness before Juve eventually changed their entire starting 11 just before the hour mark. .....

Juventus banned from European football next season

UEFA - Wikipedia

Italian football team FC Juventus will to challenge the UEFA's decision to remove the club from European competition next season.

The club's president, Gianluca Ferrero, "regrets" the decision and remains "firmly convinced of the legitimacy of our actions", but decided "not to appeal this judgment".

The UEFA Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) has found Juventus guilty of breaking Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, namely in providing fictitious information on the amount of player transfers and underreporting employee spending and salaries.

These movements allegedly increased the club's capital by 700m euros.

Juventus will have to pay a 10 million euro fine. ......

Juventus team news

With stalwart defender Leonardo Bonucci deemed surplus to requirements by Max Allegri, Juve will line up with Danilo, Federico Gatti, and Gleison Bremer in defence.

Nicolo Fagioli and Adrien Rabiot are both absent from the tour, with Allegri having a long selection of academy stars to potentially choose from.

The pragmatic Italian likely won't make too many changes from the side that drew with Milan last time out. It remains to be seen whether Dusan Vlahovic will play a part amid growing speculation surrounding his future.

Juventus predicted lineup vs Real Madrid

(3-5-2): Szczesny; Danilo, Bremer, Gatti; Weah, Miretti, Locatelli, McKennie, Kostic; Kean, Chiesa.

Real Madrid team news

Exciting new arrival Arda Guler has returned to Spain to undergo treatment on his knee, while a hamstring injury is keeping Dani Ceballos out of action.

Fortunately, Ancelotti has a myriad of midfield options at his disposal and he'll likely rotate once again for this one. Experienced customers Toni Kroos and Luka Modric could return to the fold with Jude Bellingham getting a rest.

The two dynamite Brazilians will likely work in tandem up top for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid predicted lineup vs Juventus

(4-1-2-1-2): Courtois; Carvajal, Militao, Rudiger, Alaba; Kroos; Valverde, Modric; Diaz; Rodrygo, Vinicius Jr.

Juventus 3 - Real Madrid 1: Initial reaction and random observations

SOCCER: AUG 02 Soccer Champions Tour - Juventus vs Real Madrid

You don’t need to dive all that deep into the statistic pool to know that Real Madrid was the dominant side in Wednesday night’s Soccer Champions Tour finale in Orlando, Florida. No matter where you looked on the stat sheet, it was essentially Real Madrid having the advantage — and doing so by a rather wide margin.

Except for the most important stat of them all.

Yep, the goals scored.

Meeting Real Madrid for a second consecutive summer, things went a little bit differently than last year in Southern California. Well, at least the final score was — which was a very welcome sight for those of us feeling rather down about Juventus’ prospects this coming season. As much as Real Madrid dominated the proceedings like they did 12 months ago, it was Juventus that was the team that proved to be much more efficient in front of goal, riding first-half strikes from Moise Kean and Timothy Weah to claim a 3-1 win over the Spanish giants to wrap up the United States tour on a high note. ......

You can guess which team is on which side pretty easily simply based on the first number that’s listed, the total amount of shots taken, and go from there. It was one sided as one sided gets, but guess who had the lead after less than a minute? That would be Juventus, which saw Kean cooly slot home the rebound of a Weston McKennie strike that clanged off the post. Twenty minutes in and Juve held a 2-0 lead thanks to Weah, who combined with his USMNT teammate McKennie on a fantastic goal on the counterattack.

Being two goals up ... on Real Madrid ... after 20 minutes? What in the world? .....

Basically what I’m trying to say is that this night, unlike the one against Real Madrid last summer, was not a total wash. This team is so very much in flux and in a state of uncertainty regarding some of its biggest names that simply who’s leading the line in Juve’s season opener three weeks from now could be different. At the very least, though, Juve’s plan of being a team that wanted to play on the counterattack seemed to work well at times Thursday night.

And let’s face it, whether it’s a friendly or the complete opposite on the European stage, beating Real Madrid will put a smile on my face — and I’m guessing I’m not the only one. ......

Juventus vs Real Madrid: Kean, Weah and Vlahovic score as Juve beat Real 3-1 in friendly

Juventus vs Real Madrid: Kean, Weah and Vlahovic score as Juve beat Real 3-1 in friendly

United States international Timothy Weah scored the first goal of his Juventus career as the Italian giants defeated Real Madrid 3-1 in a pre-season friendly in Florida on Wednesday.

Weah, who joined Juventus from Lille last month, tucked away a close-range finish after collecting a pass from US team-mate Weston McKennie to give the Serie A side a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes in front of a sell-out 63,503 crowd in Orlando.

McKennie, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Premier League club Leeds where he struggled to make an impact, also had a hand in his team’s opening goal which came inside the first 60 seconds.

Neat approach play led to McKennie curling a shot against the foot of the post, with Moise Kean on hand to turn in the rebound.

Real Madrid, who once again started new signing Jude Bellingham, were slow to get into the contest but eventually pulled a goal back seven minutes before half-time through Brazil international Vinicius Jr.

A superb ball from Toni Kroos sent Vinicius bearing down on the Juventus goal, and the striker calmly lifted his finish over Wojciech Szczesny to score.

Real chased an equalizer in a disjointed second half, before Dusan Vlahovic made the game safe for Juventus deep into stoppage time. ......

Juventus showed a number of positive signs in their 3-1 pre-season friendly win over Real Madrid at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. .....

In front of over 63,000 fans, Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus took to the pitch against Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, keen to flex their muscles in their final friendly of the US tour, which comes to an end today.

The Bianconeri started the match on the front foot and took the lead after just a minute through Moise Kean. They maintained this momentum and in the 20th minute Timothy Weah doubled their advantage, going 2-0 up.

Real Madrid clawed one back in the closing stages of the first half, with Vinicius Junior making things 2-1 in the 38th minute.

The second half was a different story for Juventus, who played a more defensive game following their round of changes. The Spanish side pushed for an equaliser, but the Old Lady held firm, maintaining their one-goal advantage.

Dusan Vlahovic closed out the match in the 95th minute, securing a good 3-1 win for Juventus, who saw a number of positive signs ahead of the coming campaign.

Allegri: ‘Juventus have started a journey’

11623572.jpg.webp

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri was happy with the team’s work in their US pre-season tour, which culminated in a 3-1 win over Real Madrid.

The Bianconeri showed a number of positive signs in their final pre-season friendly in the United States, picking up a 3-1 victory over Carlo Ancelotti’s side at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

Juventus’ Serie A season kicks off on August 20 with a trip to Udinese, giving Allegri a few more weeks to prepare with his squad. .....

“We finished this period of work well, against a very strong team, who have great technique and physicality. We played well for the first 25 minutes attacking forward, then it’s that they took the upper hand.

“But we defended well, we could have done better on some lost balls in the second half but I’m happy. More than the heat here in Florida we suffered from the humidity, but we settled in immediately, the game was played at a good pace.” .....

“McKennie had a good game today and I’m very happy. Weah was a bit more tired, but he is a guy who has good qualities and will be very useful for the team.”
