Video – Watch the highlights from Juve’s 1-1 draw against Bologna

Timothy Weah

Last night, Juventus dropped two points at home by settling for a draw against Bologna. The visitors stunned the Allianz Stadium by taking the lead in the first half courtesy of Lewis Ferguson. ......

Dusan Vlahovic thought he had equalized but VAR disallowed it for an offside on Adrien Rabiot.

Nevertheless, the Serbian then nodded home an exquisite cross from Samuel Iling-Junior, and this time, the goal stood.

Juve snap back to reality, draw with Bologna in home opener

All the promise of the opener came crashing down as the same old problems popped up in front of the home fans.

Juventus v Bologna FC - Serie A TIM

After their impressive season-opening win against Udinese, Juventus came into their home opener against Bologna on a high. The question now was whether or not they could build on that victory and make an early season statement that the Bianconeri were going to have a say in how the season would go.

The answer to that, at least in the short term, was a resounding no.

Lots of Juve’s old problems crept up out of the floorboards against the Rossoblu. The midfield’s passing was absolutely abysmal, constantly giving the ball away and ruining what successes the new-look press produced as quickly as they arrived. Even after Juve upped their level a little in the second half, they looked to have very little idea of how to break down Bologna’s defense, with passes often forced laterally as opposed to the verticality that produced such fine results in Udine. The defense frequently allowed runners in behind, causing havoc and giving Bologna some of their most dangerous chances.

In the end, Juve ended up stealing out of their own stadium with a 1-1 draw after trailing for much of the game and equalizing late. But the game produced more questions than it answered, and now leaves next week’s game against Empoli to determine what the team’s form will be going into the season’s first international break. .......

The opening goal can be laid completely at the feet of Sandro. As Ferguson sent an entry pass to Zirkzee, Sandro decided to charge at the Dutch striker despite the fact that he was being marked by Bremer. Ferguson was then gifted a completely free run into the box, while Sandro’s lunge for the ball took out his teammate rather than doing anything to impede his opponent. Zirkzee still had to put the ball through a pretty tight window, but once he did it left Perin completely stranded, and the Scot duly slid the ball past him and into the goal to open the scoring. ......

The script could have flipped in the 38th minute when a cross from Weah struck a sliding Lucumi in the arm and was deflected behind. In seasons past, that would’ve been an immediate penalty, but the center-back was reprieved by a new point of emphasis in the ever-changing handball rule, which stipulates that if a player is actively breaking his fall with his arm he is not committing a foul if the ball hits it. ......

Juventus v Bologna FC - Serie A TIM

As the teams headed into the locker room for the break the crowd, justifiably feeling like they’d been sold a bill of goods about this team the week before, booed them into the tunnel.

The message was sent, and Juve came out of the tunnel looking a good deal better. Chiesa began playing farther out wide, while Cambiaso cut inside him. Danilo and Weah had a similar relationship on the other side, while it looked as though Fagioli and Rabiot had swapped places in the midfield.

Juve immediately pinned their opponents back and in just seven minutes they thought they had the equalizer when Danilo’s lofted ball over the top was headed down by Bremer to Vlahovic, whose volley went through Skorupski’s hand and trickled into the net. The celebrations were loud—and short-lived. Referee Marco Di Bello was called to the VAR monitor and determined that Rabiot had interfered with Skorupski from an offside position. It was an incredibly tight call all the way around. Rabiot was clearly trying to get out of the way of the play, he was only offside by a few centimeters, and the keeper had actually gotten his hand on the ball. But Di Bello came back onto the field with his arm raised, giving Bologna a much-needed reprieve.

Juve responded to the disallowed goal and for a while put Bologna solidly under siege. .......

Allegri waited until the 66th minute to make his first changes of the game, sending on Samuel Iling-Junior for Cambiaso and Paul Pogba for Fagioli. The Frenchman’s introduction didn’t produce the immediate effect that had been hoped for, and like the man he’d just replaced he showed the signs of a player with a lot of rust on him. ......

It took another 10 minutes before Juve’s efforts finally got them on the scoreboard. It was Pogba who started the move, getting out of traffic and nutmegging Posch, who had made the same mistake Sandro had in the first half, getting sucked into the ball and allowing Iling a free run down the left side. The young Englishman had all kinds of time and space to measure up a cross to Vlahovic, who had made an excellent run into the box and gotten between Lucumi and Tommaso Corazza at the penalty spot. His powerful header skipped once as it passed a flailing Skorupski, finally tying the game. ......

LE PAGELLE

MATTIA PERIN - 6.5. Had very little to do but was let down by a huge mistake at the back for the Bologna goal. Otherwise performed his duties as he had to.

DANILO - 6. Did his defensive duties well and was often seen moving up the field as Juve chased the game. Completed 91 percent of his passes and led by example on the pitch.

BREMER - 6. Made two tackles and two interceptions, including one really good one in the first half that saw him use an overhead kick to deny Ferguson a run on goal. It’s a good thing he was able to get back up after being wiped out by his own teammate on the goal run, but other than that was adequate.

ALEX SANDRO - 4.5. If you only looked at the stat sites, you’d be forgiven for thinking Sandro had a decent game, as he paced the team in all defensive categories and even had a pair of key passes. But what was going through his mind when Bologna scored is an absolute mystery. It’s lucky he didn’t hurt Bremer, but he certainly hurt the team.

TIMOTHY WEAH - 6.5. Perhaps Juve’s best player on the day. He had a pair of key passes and very nearly scored the equalizer before the hour mark with a screamer from distance. He still needs to take his man on one-on-one when the opposition presents him with the opportunity.

NICOLO FAGIOLI - 4.5. Had a couple of positive moments, but mostly looked like a dude who hadn’t had any playing time in preseason and was still knocking off the rust. He took a team-high four shots, but only hit the target with that speculative free kick late in the first half, One of the misses would almost certainly have tide the game had it been on target. He’ll be back to being himself soon enough, but he needs to knock off the rust.

MANUEL LOCATELLI - 4. This was an absolutely awful day for him. He only completed 82.5 percent of his passes, and he didn’t make up for that on the defensive end at all. That he somehow managed a pair of key passes was astounding given how terrible the rest of his day was. Games like this drive home how out of place he really is at the regista position.

ADRIEN RABIOT - 5.5. The most put-together of Juve’s midfield, although that isn’t saying a ton. He led the team in tackles and had a pair of key passes, but didn’t manage to exert much influence offensively and ultimately was as out of sync as the rest of the team.

ANDREA CAMBIASO - 5. Didn’t get as many of the vertical runs to combine with Chiesa as he did last week, and struggled to create offensively against a low block.

FEDERICO CHIESA - 5. Tried to get things going but never really had it. Even when he moved out wide in the second half he was often confronted by two defenders. He led the team in dribbles, but other than that had a very quiet night.

Juventus v Bologna FC - Serie A TIM

DUSAN VLAHOVIC - 6. Worked really hard for practically nothing in return from his teammates. Both goals—the disallowed one and the one that stuck—were taken very well, and he looks healthy and strong for the first time in a while.

SUBS

PAUL POGBA - 5.5. Delivered the pass that ultimately brought Juve level, but was scattershot otherwise and a couple of his missed passes put Juve into some serious problems. At least he didn’t have a trainer come out to look at him.

SAMUEL ILING-JUNIOR - 6. An absolutely gorgeous cross for the equalizer elevated a relatively quiet day. Good shift for him off the bench as Kostic is increasingly frozen out.

ARKADIUSZ MILIK - 5.5. Took a pair of shots on but couldn’t bring a necessary spark to the game.

KENAN YILDIZ - NR. Only touched the ball five times with five minutes left, and didn’t make much impact, although it’s a testament to how highly Allegri thinks of him that he was put into a game like that.;

WESTON McKENNIE - NR. Filled in for Weah on the right but doesn’t have the pace his countryman does to pose a huge threat in that position.

MANAGER ANALYSIS

In a game like this I’d often heap the blame on the manager, but that isn’t 100 percent the case here. I have to admit that, against my expectations, Allegri largely kept the more proactive style that he played against Udinese. The problem came in not executing it as well. Some coaching is in order there — particularly in terms of reducing the space between the forwards and the attack — but if he’s committed to playing like this, then he will be on the right track. Moving forward.

Juventus v Bologna FC - Serie A TIM

That’s not to say Max was blameless. His first subs could have come earlier, when Bologna was truly on the ropes in the early stages of the second half. It feels like his timing decision was dictated by how many minutes the team had determined Pogba had in him, but a fresh pair or two of legs might’ve broken through Bologna sooner and left more time to go for a winner.

One last note about Allegri: this was the 110th consecutive league game in which he put out a different starting lineup. That is an absurd number. It goes beyond the idea that a coach needs to accommodate injuries and the need for rest. To go 110 games — nearly three full seasons — without repeating a starting XI at all means he’s tinkering more than is good for the team. One hopes that soon enough, without Europe to worry about this year, that he can settle in to a top lineup and ride it. .....

Juventus 1 - Bologna 1: Initial reaction and random observations

That wasn’t what we were hoping for entering the weekend.

Juventus v Bologna FC - Serie A TIM

So, what could Juventus do for an encore after last weekend’s big win over Udinese to open the 2023-24 season?

Unfortunately, it was a crash back to reality. That meant a lot of the same problems that we’ve seen the last couple of years, and a stark reminder that Juventus is still very much the flawed team we all pretty much expected them to be before a single minute was played this season.

Not even an improved second-half performance was enough for Juventus to get past Bologna on a rainy Sunday night at the Allianz Stadium. There really wasn’t much room to get any worse after a first half that saw Juve look completely out of whack and basically the polar opposite of what we saw in the opening 45 minutes just seven days ago. For all the good that happened to open the game last Sunday in Udine, it was a totally different story in Turin for Juve’s home opener — so much so that the sold-out crowd at the Allianz was rather grumpy as their favorite team headed into the locker room down 1-0 and looking all kinds of out of sorts no matter if it was in defense, midfield or attack. .......

It’s not an over-exaggeration to say just how bad the first half for Juventus was. They had a 60-40 advantage in terms of possession, but what they did with that possession was virtually nothing, which the 0.04 xG they recorded in the opening 45 minutes only confirming what your eyes saw. Vlahovic, a man known to not hide his emotions while out on the field, was completely isolated up top. The press was there, but the results that came out of the press last weekend wasn’t anywhere close to being replicated. The midfield was all over the place — and not in a good way. The defense, one that is prone to a mistake or two no matter how well Juve’s playing in other areas of the field, had one of those self-inflicted wounds to give Bologna the lead. .......

Even in the second half and Bologna doing nothing close to what you would consider attacking anywhere close to consistently, Juve still failed to put much on goal. Other than the Vlahovic goal that was called off due to VAR and the Vlahovic goal that stood because there was no need to VAR, the only shot that Juve had Łukasz Skorupski scrambling was Timothy Weah’s long-range bolt. Other than that, it was a lot of hoping and crossing and reverting to a lot of the same things we saw from this team last season. ........

RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS

  • I’m still trying to figure out what Alex Sandro was doing on Bologna’s goal. No matter if it’s the over-committing on the pass or trying to be the hero in his recovery only to go crashing into Bremer — who was not looking very good in the minutes after the collision — and leave the left side of the penalty area wide open for Bologna to take advantage of. Yep, all bad.
  • I initially thought it was on Andrea Cambiaso as well, but then when you see that it was just Sandro freestyling all over the place and it’s hard to blame the kid for not knowing what the hell was going on, too.
  • Sandro is the kind of player who is on a very diminished set of skills yet still plays the same kind of way that he did five years ago when he was in his late-20s and still considered a reliable player. He is not that now, but unfortunately Juve have no other left-footed players capable of playing on the left side of the three-man backline in this 3-5-2. ......
  • Not a great night for Manuel Locatelli, eh? When saying “not great” that might be putting it a little lightly, too — especially in the first half.
  • You know what’s disappointing? When Federico Chiesa doesn’t even attempt a shot. He was more involved in the second half, but that’s still not the kind of performance Juve need from their best offensive weapon.
  • Dusan Vlahovic had fewer touches in the first half (13) than both goalkeepers (15 and 17, respectively).
  • That header from Vlahovic on his header, though ... thing of beauty.
  • Samuel Iling-Junior’s cross on Vlahovic’s goal ... also a thing of beauty. .......
  • I can understand Paul Pogba trying to do what he can to make something happen late in the game when you’re trying to get the win, but the tricks and flicks weren’t working today. Not one bit. And it’s especially more noticeable when you’re not landing those flicks and they’re resulting in turnovers in front of the penalty area.
  • On the other end of things: Pogba is also able to work himself out of a complete mess with four Bologna players around him and make the pass that set Iling-Junior loose on the left wing to set up Vlahovic. He’s just unique that kind of way. ........
  • I miss last weekend’s performance. But, this is a Juventus managed by Max Allegri, so when things are good they always seem to come crashing back down to earth quite quickly.

“He gave us some tricks” – Perin credits Allegri for improved second-half performance

Juventus-Bologna 1-1: il tabellino della gara - TUTTOmercatoWEB.com

Last night, Juventus had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Bologna in their first home fixture of the season.

The Bianconeri’s display in the first half was tepid and they found themselves trailing by a Lewis Ferguson goal.

In the second period, Juve demonstrated more intent and ended up snatching a late equalizer through Dusan Vlahovic.

For his part, Mattia Perin started between the sticks due to the absence of the injured Wojciech Szczesny.

The former Genoa man gives credit to Allegri who offered valuable tips at the half-time break, sparking an improved display.

“The coach preached calm at half-time. We were agitated because we couldn’t find spaces,” .....

“He gave us some tricks that we immediately implemented and we noticed the difference. ......

Referee explains why Bologna did not get a penalty against Juventus

Marco Di Bello

Bologna could have potentially led 2-0 against Juventus if a penalty appeal had been acknowledged either by the referee or through VAR. .....

However, a significant point of contention arose from the decision not to grant Bologna a penalty opportunity when they were leading 1-0. This choice has sparked a considerable amount of controversy.

The Italian Football Referees Association (AIA) expressed frustration with referee Marco Di Bello for certain decisions made during the match.

The report claims he initially told the Bologna bench, “it’s not a foul because they both came together at the same time.”

However, at the end of the game, he told their directors he did not give the penalty, “Because I didn’t give the one on Chiesa.” .....

New season, same problems in the Juventus midfield

At the moment, Adrien Rabiot is the only positive in the Juventus midfield.

Juventus v Bologna FC - Serie A TIM

In two games, Juventus have shown an astonishingly wide spectrum of capabilities: against Udinese, a half so sizzling to start the season you wanted to skip out of your seat and dance; against Bologna, a half so deeply deplorable you desired nothing besides a dark and gloomy dungeon.

Reason to party, reason to panic. The latter, I’m afraid, has a familiar source.

The goal the Old Lady conceded in her second Serie A bout was emblematic of troubles that have lingered for years. Although in this instance the buck undisputedly stopped with Alex Sandro, whose hapless defending on the Lewis Ferguson strike was as comical as it was costly, the move started thanks to a passive midfield of bystanders.

A new season, an old truth: the Juventus midfield is not good enough. To state the fact is dismaying enough; to ruminate on the lack of viable solutions is downright depressing.

What path forward?

Apparently, Adrien Rabiot is the only consistently decent midfielder on this team. Even on something of an off day — that’s almost as descriptive as I can be; Rabiot just seemed a bit off, a bit distracted — he was miles better than his counterparts Manuel Locatelli and Nicolo Fagioli. ......

Paul Pogba is not going to be a savior

The optimists here, and the optimist in me, have pointed to the return of Paul Pogba as a possible “solution,” of sorts, to this midfield, but after the minutes he logged against Bologna I am more convinced than ever that the best we can hope for from him is the occasional moment of brilliance — which is exactly what we got — rather than the consistently stellar player he was during his first stint in Turin. ......

Empoli star insists they are prepared to give Juventus a proper fight

Cambiaghi

Empoli’s Nicolò Cambiaghi is resolute in asserting their readiness to face Juventus head-on in their upcoming clash this weekend.

Although Juventus remains undefeated in their initial two league encounters of the season, including a recent draw against Bologna at home, Cambiaghi emphasises Empoli’s determination to challenge their more illustrious opponents.

Empoli has encountered setbacks in losing their opening two matches of the season. Nevertheless, Juventus may perceive this fixture as an opportunity to secure all available points.

Yet, it’s crucial for Juventus to avoid overconfidence, given that Empoli presents itself as a formidable adversary. The Blues possess a knack for complicating matters, prompting Juventus to exercise caution and not underestimate the challenge that lies ahead.

Anticipating a tightly contested match, Cambiaghi is convinced Emploi can challenge Max Allegri’s team. .......

Szczesny still out for Juventus in Empoli

Image

Juventus are still missing Wojciech Szczesny and Mattia De Sciglio, but Paul Pogba is present for tomorrow’s match against Empoli.

Szczesny picked up a knock in training last week and already missed the 1-1 draw with Bologna.

Gatti set for first Juventus start after Sandro’s struggle against Bologna

gatti-v-sevilla.jpg

Federico Gatti has faced challenges in securing playing time at Juventus this season, as Max Allegri has favoured a back-three consisting of Gleison Bremer, Danilo, and Alex Sandro. The Brazilian trio has performed well, and the club has shown faith in their abilities, which has limited Gatti’s opportunities in the starting lineup. .....

Gatti may have a chance to return to the starting lineup in the next game. This possibility arises from Sandro’s struggles against Bologna’s attack, which may prompt Allegri to make some changes to the team, including the potential inclusion of Gatti in the starting XI. Juventus fans will be eager to see if Gatti can seize this opportunity to regain his place in the first team. ......

Empoli 0-2 Juventus: Danilo and Chiesa back on track

Danilo-Empoli-Juventus-celebrate.jpg.webp

Danilo on a chaotic corner and Federico Chiesa after a sprint from his own half gave Juventus victory in Empoli, despite Etrit Berisha saving the Dusan Vlahovic penalty.

The Bianconeri made several changes after the controversial 1-1 draw with Bologna, still missing Wojciech Szczesny and Mattia De Sciglio. Empoli had lost both matches without finding the net, with Elia Caprile and Daniel Maldini injured, so Berisha made his debut in goal.

Dusan Vlahovic tested Berisha early on with a snapshot and Danilo had the ball in the net on 11 minutes, but he had also fouled the goalkeeper.

Vlahovic’s header swung just wide from a Fabio Miretti assist, but Juve did score eventually from a chaotic corner that pinballed around in the box until Danilo fired in from eight yards.

McKennie had an effort charged down and Berisha took the sting out of a sudden Filip Kostic strike, but Juve were awarded a penalty when Federico Gatti was fouled by Yousef Maleh.

Vlahovic stepped up, but saw his spot-kick saved by Berisha on the goalkeeper’s Empoli debut. ......

Paul Pogba thought he had scored with a splendid volley, but Vlahovic was clearly offside when making the assist.

Just as Empoli were pouring forward, they were caught out on the counter. Arkadiusz Milik’s give and go sent Chiesa sprinting clear on goal from the centre-circle, he was caught by the on-rushing Berisha, but got back on his feet after the stumble to finish into an empty net. ....

Empoli 0-2 Juventus

Danilo 24 (J), Chiesa 82 (J)

Saved penalty: Vlahovic 39 (J)

Juventus Player Ratings vs Empoli: Danilo & Chiesa Lead The Way

Empoli-Juventus 0-2, Danilo: "Siamo contenti per questa vittoria" - Footballnews24.it

Juventus (3-5-2)

Mattia Perin – 5.5

The custodian didn’t have a single save to make. But fumbled a pass in the second half which could have cost Juventus dearly.

Federico Gatti – 7

An impressive display at the back from the former Frosinone man who kept Cambiaghi at bay. He cleverly won the spot kick that Vlahovic wasted.

Gleison Bremer – 6.5

A commanding performance from the Brazilian defender who nullified Ciccio Caputo and won almost every aerial duel. Wrestled his marker off the ball to set up Danilo’s goal.

Danilo – 7.5

Another fine outing from the Juventus captain who opened the scoring with a well-taken low drive. Put on a solid showing at the back too against Tommaso Baldanzi.

Weston McKennie – 6

A hard-working display from the American who did well to retrieve the ball. However, he was wasteful in possession.

Fabio Miretti – 6.5

An encouraging display from the young midfielder who won some duels and drew several fouls from the opposition. But he still has to sharpen his touch. Hooked off for Pogba at the hour mark.

Manuel Locatelli – 6

As always, the former Sassuolo man did well to shield his backline. But Juventus supporters will be expecting some improvement when it comes to ball distribution.

Adrien Rabiot – 6

The Frenchman helped the Bianconeri boss the middle of the park, but his technical touch remains off the mark compared to last season.

Filip Kostic – 5.5

The left winger made his first Juventus appearance of the season but seemed to lack sharpness. Worked hard to retrieve the ball, but his delivery wasn’t on cue as usual.

Federico Chiesa – 7.5

The Euro 2020 winner wasted two one-on-one chances against Berisha including one that he created himself. But it was third time’s the charm for the Italian who skipped past the goalkeeper and was barely able to keep his footing before slotting the ball inside the empty net.

Dusan Vlahovic – 5.5

The former Fiorentina man worked hard for the team but wasn’t provided with sufficient service. Etrit Berisha denied him from the spot as his effort was slightly feeble.

Substitutes

Paul Pogba – 6.5

The Frenchman is noticeably short on fitness, but still has the magical touch as demonstrated by a fabulous volley goal that was disallowed for a previous offside position.

Arkadiusz Milik – 7

A brilliant cameo from the Polish striker who provided a sublime assist for Chiesa and almost scored a header but it rattled the woodwork.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6.5

The Italian proved to be an obvious improvement on Kostic. Productive on the left flank.

Moise Kean – 6.5

A positive short cameo from the Italian striker who helped in creating plays. He was unlucky to see his shot denied by the post.

Timothy Weah – N/A

Allegri: ‘Juventus cannot be Scudetto favourites’ :103:

Max-Allegri-Juventus-grimacing.jpg.webp

Max Allegri reveals a new Paul Pogba injury worry after Juventus beat Empoli, explains his changes in personnel and approach, but insists ‘you cannot say we are Scudetto favourites.’

The Bianconeri had a point to prove after last week’s controversial 1-1 draw with Bologna, so Allegri made more changes to the starting XI.

They paid off, as Danilo fired in after a corner was not cleared effectively, then Federico Chiesa made it 2-0 late on with a sprint from his own half.

There could easily have been more too, because Danilo and Paul Pogba had goals disallowed, while Arkadiusz Milik and Moise Kean hit the woodwork. .......

“It was a good performance against an Empoli side that is not easy to play against. We allowed practically nothing at the back, but need to be calmer in the final third or with the final ball, as we were a bit too frenetic. These are things we will improve as time goes on.” .....

“Nobody likes being outside of the Champions League. We finished third in the table, so it’s easy to say that Juve failed last season, but without the points penalty we were third. There are teams out there better equipped to win the Scudetto, such as InterNapoli and Milan. We must do well to stay as close to them as possible and finish in the top four.

Danilo and Chiesa on target as Juventus cut through Empoli

Empoli 0-2 Juventus: Danilo and Federico Chiesa fire Juve to three points on the road - Eurosport

Juventus secured their second win of the season as they emerged victorious over their hosts Empoli at the Carlo Castellani Stadium with two unanswered goals. The Bianconeri were clearly the better side and could have come away with a larger result.

Max Allegri adopted his 3-5-2 formation that featured some tweaks, especially on the wings. Weston McKennie and Filip Kostic took over from Andrea Cambiaso and Timothy Weah.

Fabio Miretti started in midfield alongside Manuel Locatelli and Adrien Rabiot. Federico Gatti finally earned his starting berth at the back, replacing the disappointing Alex Sandro. Dusan Vlahovic and Federico once again spearheaded the lineup. .....

In the end, Allegri’s men succeeded in adding three points to the tally, raising their total to seven from the first three rounds of the season.

Final Score: Empoli-Juventus 0-2

Goals: Danilo 24′ (J), Chiesa 82 (J)

Juventus (3-5-2): Perin; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; McKennie (Weah), Miretti (Pogba), Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic (Cambiaso); Chiesa (Kean), Vlahovic (Milik)

Juventus 2 - Empoli 0: Initial reaction and random observations

It wasn’t all that pretty for much of the proceedings, but at least Juventus didn’t repeat recent history.

Empoli-Juventus 0-2: ci pensano Danilo e Chiesa, ma Pogba preoccupa - la Repubblica

As the minutes ticked away in the second half Sunday night in Tuscany and a second goal wasn’t scored by Juventus, I couldn’t help but think “Is this going to come back to bite Juve in the you-know-what?” It was a situation we’ve seen plenty of times over the last two-plus years of Max Allegri’s second tenure (and obviously further back than that), with mixed results coming against teams who Juve had no business allowing a goal to.

This season’s version of Empoli, one that entered the weekend having done next to nothing in the final third so far this season.

Thankfully, those thoughts were simply left lingering and not ones that came into reality. I guess we can thank Federico Chiesa and his late goal for that.

Yes, Juventus had another one-goal lead that shouldn’t have simply been 1-0 for as long as it did, having to watching scoring chances either cleared off due to VAR, a penalty be missed or shots simply be just off the mark. It was a collection of ineffectiveness in the final third for Juventus before Chiesa’s bursting run forward on the counter attack saw him slip past the onrushing Entrit Berisha and curve in a shot from the left side of the box into a wide open goal to wrap up Juve’s 2-0 win. It prevented any drama on the cusp of stoppage time from happening, sending Juve into the first international break of the season with two wins in their first three games and prevented any business like what happened seven days earlier from taking place again. ........

Danilo: ‘Goal dedicated to Juventus legend Scirea’

Danilo-Juventus-Empoli-scream.jpg.webp

Juventus captain Danilo concedes returning to Empoli brought back memories of last season’s off the field problems and reveals his very special goal dedication for Gaetano Scirea.

The Bianconeri grabbed a 2-0 victory at the Stadio Castellani this evening, with the deadlock broken by Danilo prodding the ball through a sea of legs on a corner.

Dusan Vlahovic then saw a penalty saved by Etrit Berisha, before Federico Chiesa ran from his own half to seal the 2-0 result.

Juve lost 4-1 at Empoli last season, a match affected by the announcement just minutes before kick-off that they had been docked 10 Serie A points for financial irregularities.

“I cannot say our thoughts didn’t stray back to last season,” Danilo told DAZN.

“That was an ugly defeat, but today we showed hunger and pride, but also good football and tactical organisation, things that can allow us to achieve important results.” .......

It was 34 years ago today that legendary Juve captain Scirea, who wore the same 6 shirt as Danilo, died in a car crash while scouting for the club in Poland.

“I wanted to dedicate the goal to Scirea and I will give my jersey to his son Riccardo, who is part of the staff. Scirea was too important a figure in the history of Juventus and I feel immense pride to wear this jersey.”

The Juventus social media account later provided the proof he had kept that promise.

Moggi is not impressed with Juventus win against Empoli

Three takeaways from Empoli 0-2 Juventus: Danilo shows his reliability, Empoli miss Vicario - Total Italian Football

Luciano Moggi appears to be critical of Juventus’ performance in their 2-0 victory against Empoli over the weekend. He seems to believe that the result was not satisfactory, especially considering that Empoli has had a poor start to the season, being winless and scoreless in their first three league matches.

Expectations were high for Juventus to demonstrate their superiority with a convincing win against Empoli, given the difference in stature between the two clubs. ......

After the match, Moggi said: “Against a modest Empoli, last in the table and with zero goals scored, a not-very sparkling Juventus wins and moves into third place behind the Milanese with full points. If the Juventus team is able to take advantage of the advantage of not having midweek cup matches, it could even place itself in the Champions League zone.” .......

Cambiaso is proving why he is here to stay at Juventus

Cambiaso

Andrea Cambiaso’s loan move following his transfer to Juventus from Genoa last summer has turned out to be a shrewd decision by the club. During his loan spell at Bologna, the full-back gained valuable playing time that aided in his development and prepared him for his return to Turin.

Now, Cambiaso has established himself as a starter for Juventus, benefiting from Max Allegri’s use of wingbacks in his 3-5-2 tactical system. His transition into the team has been smooth, and he has made an excellent start to his career in Turin. .......

Lippi says Juventus could be in the Scudetto fight for one reason

Vialli fue un líder dentro y fuera del campo, Lippi - Deportes - ANSA Latina

Marcello Lippi has weighed in on the Serie A title race for the current season and acknowledged that Juventus is among the favourites to win it, and this status is well-deserved.

Despite facing challenges both on and off the pitch last season and not making significant investments in the squad during the last transfer window, Juventus is considered a strong contender for the Scudetto. Lippi attributes their competitive standing to the fact that they are not participating in European competitions this season. ......

“They have the same characteristics as always: a great desire to fight and an interesting mix between young people and already established players. And then they don’t have the Cups, so they could be the third team to fight for the Scudetto.” ........

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri labels Lazio match 'a direct clash for second place' | Goal.com UK

The quality of the opposition in their previous three matches did not match the calibre of Lazio. .....

Allegri is contemplating starting Moise Kean in the upcoming game. Kean has primarily been used as a substitute for Juventus this season, with Federico Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic typically starting the team’s matches. ........

Four elements that could make all the difference for Juventus this season

allegri-landucci.jpg

Following three disappointing campaigns, Juventus are hoping to usher in a more prosperous era starting with the current term.

Admittedly, the Bianconeri did little on the market to suggest an uprising, as Max Allegri still has almost the same squad at his disposal from last season. ....

Four aspects could help Juventus achieve better results and turn the tide in their favor this season.

The first element is the rise of a new generation led by the likes of Nicolo Fagioli, Fabio Miretti and Samuel Iling-Junior. These players are becoming increasingly mature with time and experience.

Then we have the rediscovered harmony in the locker room under the leadership of new club captain Danilo. Juventus now enjoy a more serene atmosphere following the departure of Leonardo Bonucci, the source explains.

The third element is the addition of even younger talents, mainly teenage sensations Kenan Yildiz and Dean Huijsen.

The last aspect that the source mentions is the improved style of play. .......

Chiesa could be fit for Lazio clash but fellow Juventus striker is convincing Allegri in training

Serie A: Kean pronto a firmare, accordo per lo scambio

After sustaining a knock while on international duty, Federico Chiesa returned to Juventus before making an appearance for Luciano Spalletti’s Italy.

The 25-year-old suffered muscular fatigue, promoting his premature return to Turin. But thankfully for the Bianconeri, test results ruled out an injury.

Juventus are optimistic about the player’s condition. They believe Chiesa could be fit enough to start against Lazio next week. .......

Thus far, Max Allegri has always started with Chiesa and Dusan Vlahovic upfront in his 3-5-2 formation.

However, the source claims that another contender is pushing for a starting berth in the attack.

The report reveals that Moise Kean has been in spectacular form in training. The Italian striker remained in Turin after failing to receive a call-up from Spalletti. ........

Kovacevic believes Juventus are superior to Lazio, names the most impressive Bianconeri youngster

Samuel Iling-Junior

Ahead of next weekend’s battle between Juventus and Lazio, Darko Kovacevic compared the strength of his two former clubs.

The Serbian signed for the Bianconeri in 1999 and spent two years in Turin. In 2001, he joined the capital side for a brief stint.

The 49-year-old believes Max Allegri possesses the superior squad, especially when his best stars are all available.

“I wouldn’t put Lazio and Juve on the same level, at least in terms of personnel” .......

“Let’s not deny the facts. Without injuries, the Bianconeri can compete for the Scudetto.” .......

Finally, the former bomber identified Samuel Iling-Junior as the most impressive Juventus youngster.

“I like Miretti, but there is one youngster who is just on another level compared to the others: Iling-Junior.

“You can notice his presence right away. he has the ability to open up the match with his physicality and quick feet.

“He was born in 2003. So what? Yamal was born in 2007 and plays for Barcelona.”

Juventus defender recovers from injury, aims for a starting role vs Lazio

Gatti fa una promessa per l'anno prossimo: lo ha detto alla Juve

After sustaining a muscular problem in Empoli, many feared that Federico Gatti could miss Juve’s next encounter against Lazio.

But thankfully, test results ruled out an injury, while the international break is allowing the defender to rest and regain his optimal physical condition.

Gatti has recovered and is aiming for a starting berth in next Saturday’s clash against Lazio. ........

For his part, Gatti remained on the bench on the opening day in Udine and then during the 1-1 draw against Bologna in Round 2.

But following an unconvincing display from Alex Sandro against the Rossoblu, Max Allegri resorted to the Italian defender. The 25-year-old delivered the goods with an impressive outing in Empoli.

The former Frosinone man was solid at the back, helping the club register a clean sheet. He also contributed on the opposite end of the pitch, winning a spot kick that Dusan Vlahovic failed to convert. .......
