  1. Max Allegri's utilization of Andrea Barzagli pays off in droves for Juventus against Sevilla http://www.blackwhitereadallover.com/2015/10/1/9431077/juventus-andrea-barzagli-max-allegri-champions-league Oct 1, 2015 The first time I heard the announcers say "Andrea Barzagli is at right back" on ESPN2 here in the U.S., I couldn't help but laugh. I had seen the Juventus starting lineup, even a couple of pictures of it, and every single thought in my head screamed out "That's a 3-5-2, jack! That's a damn 3-5-2!" It was as clear as clear-cut gets. Except it wasn't a 3-5-2. It was far from the textbook 3-5-2 we've seen used in just about every other game that Juventus has lined up in that formation over the past four years. Juventus bounced in between a 3-5-2 and 4-3-3 like it was no big deal at all. And even though it was a role we've rarely seen Barzagli in — if at all — it was his effectiveness that allowed Juve to defend so well through their 2-0 win over Sevilla on Wednesday. Barzagli was the same old Barzagli. He was arguably the best defender on the field, which has become a pretty regular occurrence over his Juve career regardless of the opponent. He was the player we've come to know as 'The Wall' because he's so damn good at his job. Giorgio Chiellini had just as many tackles. Heck, Hernanes had more tackles than anybody in a Juventus uniform, according to WhoScored. Both Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci had more clearances. Chiellini had more interceptions. The stats never truly show how good Barzagli is, but that's nothing by now. Instead, it was just a fantastic, consistent game from start to finish game from our old buddy Barzagli. And at the time he needed to be just that, too. At right back. Yeah, right back. This was the kind of move by Max Allegri, one that takes a little you-know-what, that paid off as well as even he could have hoped it would. It was a massive risk just as much it could have turned into a huge advantage. Nobody knew what to expect from Barzagli playing in a wider position, just like nobody really knew what to expect from Juventus as a team against Sevilla based on how things have gone in Serie A. But posed with a problem, Allegri found a different, out-of-the-box kind of solution. No natural right backs? Ha! Max has an answer for all of you — i's to play a 34-year-old centerback who has battled injuries the past two years in a position that he hasn't played in years and years. Certainly not in his days wearing a Juventus jersey. Yet, there Barzagli was playing on the right wing as Juventus settled into their defensive shape. That isn't Stephan Lichtsteiner's heat map from his last appearance against Genoa. Nope, That's what Barzagli did against Sevilla on Wednesday night. As much as a lot of us didn't want to think it was anything other than a 3-5-2, this clearly proves that Barzagli was the right back that Allegri so desired when he filed his starting lineup. The thing that made this all possible was knowing that on the other half of the field Juventus could lean on Juan Cuadrado to make an impact offensively. Therefore, Barzagli's onus could be on the defensive side of the ball where he obviously is so damn good at what he does. (Yes, even now as a right back.) And, of course, Barzagli ended up getting the assist on what proved to be the game-winning goal from Álvaro Morata because that's just how the world works. You want something that's totally ironic, well, then there you have it. Is this some kind of long-term solution? Nah, I don't think so. But in a pinch or when Allegri feels the situation calls for it, then Barzagli has shown he can handle this kind of new hybrid 3-5-2/4-3-3 kind of role on the right side of the Juve defense. (Of course, Juve would have everybody available for selection, too.) For at least one game, though, Allegri's decision to play Barzagli as a right back turned to gold.
  2. Agnelli calls for reforms http://www.football-italia.net/73744/agnelli-calls-reforms? Oct 1, 2015 Juventus President Andrea Agnelli urged Italian football reform including B Teams and new security measures. The patron wrote an open letter to the shareholders, reflecting the recent statement on their financial stability. “Juventus’ clear progress in running the club has not, however, sufficed to prompt profound, definitive reflection on the national level as to the future of Italian football,” wrote Agnelli. “On several sides, important figures in the world of football are calling for the game in this country to be considered a fully-fledged industry which contributes to the country both via its tax revenue and its 'supply chain'. “Yet sadly, Italian football has not found the human resources able to put it back at the centre of political debate. In our game, individuals who are neither important figures nor financers enjoy excessive power. It is an environment which has deceitfully 'generated' the consensus of a self-referential system. “In the meantime, for the fifth time in six years, Italian teams that qualified for the preliminary rounds of the Champions League failed to reach the competition proper, and Italian clubs, despite finding themselves in a fairly healthy market position, have not been able to grow at the same pace as their European competitors. “In the five-year period 2009-2014, revenue in English football grew by 61%, 46% in Germany, 32% in Spain, 42% in France, 86% in Russia and 62% in Turkey. Revenue in Italy for the same period grew by just 14%. “The hope is that the next Olympic Games, at the end of 2016, can accelerate reforms to the structure of Italian football and foster the natural change in personnel, competencies and the way the game is run. “This is a process the league bodies, footballers and coaches have to grasp in order to avoid spending a further five years, between now and 2020, listing what should be done but that no one does. “Football has to go back to the heart of this world and, in the short term, in order to improve the product we offer supporters, it would be wise to tackle the following issues: “1. For too long the idea of creating B teams has been rejected, while other countries have guaranteed their young players steady development. Serie A needs to have the strength to bridge the generational gap between the Primavera championship (Under-19) and potentially joining the first team, which typically occurs between 22 and 23 years old. “2. Reforming the league system is imperative and must be accompanied by significant reflection on the issue of mutuality. Relegated teams must be protected so as to avoid jeopardising, as is currently the case, the business’s continuity. It is patently clear that cases such as Parma, who went bankrupt during the league season, or the continued problems many clubs are encountering in obtaining UEFA licences, undermine the credibility of the system as a whole, making it less attractive for potential new investors, who we need, provided they present clear, long-term development plans. “3. The situation regarding stadia, save rare and noteworthy exceptions, is unchanged. Not only has the planning of new infrastructure stalled, existing facilities have even been granted waivers from current legislation. “The introduction of Goal Line Technology – a positive move – entailed costs that all the clubs could bear without any problems. Sadly, the same cannot be said of investment in safety and the latest technology in video surveillance which, with much lower costs, would greatly assist the work of the authorities in identifying the individuals behind the offences and would clearly reduce so-called ‘objective responsibility’, which after the recent events of April’s derby at the Stadio Olimpico in Turin, I would jokingly dub ‘inherent responsibility’. “Individual responsibility has now become of secondary importance and Italian football appears to have succumbed to this aberration.”
  3. JUVENTUS - SEVILLA 2 - 0 Álvaro Morata (41') Simone Zaza (87') Matchday 2 Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 - 08:45 P.M. Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) Orsi: Juventus Beat Sevilla Thanks To Their Strong Mentality http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/10/orsi-juventus-beat-sevilla-thanks-to-their-strong-mentality/? Oct 1, 2015 Former Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Orsi believes Juventus showed the necessary mental fortitude during their 2-0 win over Sevilla. The Bianconeri sealed their second Champions League victory of the season on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Alvaro Morata and Simone Zaza, and find themselves now top of Group D. “Yesterday morning I had predicted that the Old Lady would win,” said Orsi to Radio Radio. “They won the game but they had great difficulty controlling the match.” He continued: “The 3-5-2 formation suits the players to which coach [Massimiliano] Allegri has at his disposal. He should be given credit for his game plan.” “Their were positive performances from [Juan] Cuadrado and [sami] Khedira, the team deserved the victory against a poor Sevilla side. “The Bianconeri played the game with the right mentality.”
  4. JUVENTUS - SEVILLA 2 - 0 Álvaro Morata (41') Simone Zaza (87') Matchday 2 Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 - 08:45 P.M. Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) Dominant Euro-Juve show capability Juventus made it two Champions League wins from two with a commanding 2-0 victory over Sevilla. Luca Cetta saw much to admire from the Old Lady. http://www.football-italia.net/73734/dominant-euro-juve-show-capability? Oct 1, 2015 Aesthetically, Alessandro Del Piero’s bunch takes the cake. There’s little doubt about that. A ‘Gol alla Del Piero’ against both Borussia Dortmund and Steaua Bucharest. Free-kicks versus Rangers and the Germans. The collection was a masterpiece. In comparison, Alvaro Morata’s set of predatory finishes don’t stir the same emotions, but in terms of importance they are streets ahead. The Spaniard equalled the Juve icon’s 1995 club-record of netting in five consecutive Champions League outings when he nodded the Bianconeri ahead against Sevilla. The goal came at just the right time, capping a dominant first half display. Just as each strike prior, this was decisive. Think back to the goals in both semi-final legs last term against Real Madrid. The equaliser in Berlin versus Barcelona. The winner, a fine goal at that, over Manchester City on Matchday 1. Victory was a must for a Juve side which has stumbled punch-drunk through the opening weeks. The triumph in England was followed by their only domestic success to date at Genoa. Things looked to be picking up. But after taking one point from outings against Frosinone and Napoli the pressure increased. Juventus needed to win and did so emphatically for a first home triumph this term. Like Morata, the Bianconeri have risen on the continent. That’s in direct contrast to a difficult start to the Serie A campaign. Two victories have shot Juve up to six points in Group D. It’s more in two games than the Turin club has accrued from six in Serie A. That will lead to the question of why there has been a gulf between the two. Massimiliano Allegri has not been aided by a series of injuries, ensuring that in each game this season he has fielded a different starting XI. Chances were wasted against Udinese, Chievo and Frosinone. In the big away matches at Roma and Napoli they went missing. That Manchester triumph, a first on English soil since 1996, looked an anomaly. But Juve are growing on the continent. They’ve so far found the clinical edge required on the biggest stage. Injuries were again a concern ahead of Sevilla. None more so than at right back, where Stephan Lichtsteiner’s breathing difficulties have meant a spell on the sidelines. Allegri was not aided by Martin Caceres’ car crash, an incident the club took a dim view of. His suspension, and the non-inclusion of makeshift fullback Simone Padoin in the Champions League squad, meant Allegri had to find a solution. The cross for Morata’s goal revealed its identity. Nominally, Andrea Barzagli lined up on the right side of the back three in a 3-5-2, with Juan Cuadrado ahead on the flank. But the veteran defender at times played like a fullback, allowing the Colombian to push forward. In other instances he tucked inside. It was a hybrid resolution that saw both players command the right. For Barzagli the game was capped by that assist. In the face of multiple absentees, Sami Khedira’s return was a welcome one. The German sustained a thigh problem in pre-season and only here made his debut. Khedira looked assured in his 75 minutes of action, keeping possession ticking over and offering balance in midfield. And with an experienced figure alongside, Paul Pogba did not feel shackled by responsibility. He has felt the burden in the early weeks with Khedira and Claudio Marchisio – his intended midfield partners – out injured. Pogba has been guilty of trying too much without success. Here he did not over-complicate. Pogba, and the team, were better for it. With the Turin-born player possibly ready to return this Sunday against Bologna, Allegri may finally have his best midfield options available. Sevilla rarely threatened, only firing one tame effort at Gianluigi Buffon. Juventus looked comfortable in possession and harassed with intent. It was a one-sided affair, although with memories of Frosinone fresh the second goal scored by Simone Zaza with four minutes remaining offered relief. With this win Juventus have command of the group, the only side holding a perfect record. It was the exact display Juve were after. Zaza mentioned afterwards that the vibe had not been positive of late, so to dispel doubts is a great confidence boost. There was much to admire, this victory showing there’s plenty of fight in the Old Lady, plus her comfort as the Champions League anthem roars.
  5. Worth waiting for: Khedira proves class on Juventus debut The summer signing from Real Madrid showed the Bianconeri just what they have been missing in a commanding performance in his first outing since recovering from injury. http://www.goal.com/en-za/news/4563/main/2015/10/01/15904992/-? Oct 1, 2015 Sami Khedira only returned to full training with Juventus at the weekend yet coach Massimiliano Allegri had no doubts about giving the summer signing his debut in Wednesday's crucial Champions League clash with Sevilla on Wednesday. "I don’t know how long he can play, but he will certainly feature." In the end, he managed 75 minutes and during that time proved exactly what the Bianconeri have been missing this season - and just why director general Giuseppe Marotta had pulled out all the stops to persuade the Germany international to move to Turin after the expiration of his contract with Real Madrid. Of course, as a free transfer, Khedira always looked like a risk worth taking - despite his poor injury record. However, the gamble looked to have backfired when the World Cup winner broke down in his very first outing for his new club, suffering a hamstring tear just 25 minutes into the pre-season clash with Marseille at the Stade Velodrome. The fear was that Juve had got themselves a dud. It remains to be seen if Khedira's fitness issues are now behind him, but what is already beyond dispute is that the former Stuttgart man can become a key player for Juventus. Juve have performed dreadfully in Serie A this season, accruing just five points from their opening six fixtures in what is their worst start to a league campaign since 1969 - yet they were utterly dominant against Europa League winners Sevilla, turning in their most complete display of the season so far. They played with fluidity, had 21 shots on goal, restricting their opponents to just one and won every single 50-50 tackle (12/12). Khedira was absolutely key in every regard. The stats support this point, with the 28-year-old winning back possession three times, as well as enjoying an 87 per cent pass completion rate (26/30). He was calm on the ball and used it intelligently throughout. Defensively, he also brought solidity to a midfield that was completely overrun in last weekend's loss at Napoli. Indeed, he offered wonderful protection to Hernanes, allowing the Brazilian an armchair ride in what was the ex-Inter man's best performance in a black-and-white jersey date. Hernanes had been smothered at the San Paolo; here, Khedira allowed him to breathe. While Juve can ill afford to get ahead of themselves in light of their dismal domestic form, it was hard to escape the impression that when Claudio Marchisio imminently recovers from his own injury issues, the Italian champions will once again have a midfield capable of competing with the very best that Europe has to offer. The loss of both Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo continue to be keenly felt but Paul Pogba, Khedira and Marchisio have the potential to form a truly formidable trio. Khedira will clearly have to be managed carefully, meaning Allegri has a big decision to make on Saturday as to whether to start the Stuttgart native against Bologna. Given their precarious position in Serie A, Juve need to win and, from what we saw against Sevilla, they also need Khedira. However, two games in four days could be asking too much of a player who has only just returned to action. Still, the important thing is that Khedira is finally back. And thanks to the German, Juve could be too.
  6. Marchisio back for Bologna? http://www.football-italia.net/73719/marchisio-back-bologna? Oct 1, 2015 Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio could reportedly make his return from injury against Bologna on Sunday. The Italy international was originally expected to be back after the international break, but Tuttosport report today that he has made great improvements recently. The Turin-based newspaper believes that the next two days will be decisive, as the intensity of the 29-year-old’s sessions will increase and it will become clearer whether or not he will be fit to face the Rossoblu. However, the Bianconeri medical staff will not want to rush a recovery and therefore could choose to delay a comeback until after the break as initially planned to avoid risking further injury. Juventus will need Marchisio in his best shape following the break, as they travel to San Siro for the Derby d’Italia against Inter on 18 October.
  7. JUVENTUS - SEVILLA 2 - 0 Álvaro Morata (41') Simone Zaza (87') Matchday 2 Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 - 08:45 P.M. Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) Juventus 2-0 Sevilla: Bianconeri destroy Los Rojiblancos, take control in the group of death Álvaro Morata and Simone Zaza scored in an easy victory over the reigning Europa League champions. http://www.thehardtackle.com/2015/morata-and-zaza-help-juventus-go-top-after-comfortable-win-over-sevilla/? Oct 1, 2015 "Monologue," this is the word that described Wednesday night's match at Juventus Stadium. Juventus literally destroyed Sevilla and, with this victory, they´re the absolute leaders of Group D, this season's group of death in the Champions League. Again, this Champions League match began at Tuesday's pre-match press conference. Max Allegri sent a riddle to Unai Emery about his starting lineup. He said that he would start with Sami Khedira, he'd play with the BBC in defense and he'd keep to himself a mystery man — Max only named ten starters at the press conference. Right now, I'm pretty sure that Mr. Emery is still looking for answers. Allegri used a classic 3-5-2 a hybrid 4-3-3/4-4-2 formation with Andrea Barzagli playing as a right back and the mystery man, Hernanes, in the middle of the park along with Paul Pogba and Khedira. On the other side, a depleted Sevilla, presented a 4-5-1 without former Juve striker Fernando Llorente (out injured) and with Ciro Immobile on the bench. The match started right away with a great opportunity for the home team, when Pogba badly lofted over the bar a bouncing ball in Sevilla's penalty area. Once again, Juan Cuadrado acted as a catalyst for Juventus attack, as he was often involved and was a nightmare for Benoit Tremoulinas. In the 17th minute, a sweet curled shot by Paulo Dybala went just wide of Sergio Rico's right post. Sevilla tried to hold the constant Bianconeri's pressure, however it looked like it was just a matter of time before Juventus scored. Juventus took the lead minutes before halftime. A beautiful cross, executed by Barzagli — yes, Barzagli! — found Álvaro Morata, who placed a clinical header in the back of the net. The second half also began with a chance for Juventus. An industrious Dybala moved quickly and forced a close-range save by Sergio Rico. Minutes later, Cuadrado and Dybala scorched Rico's gloves with two furious shots. The Old Lady was in control, but Frosinone's ghost was still present at Juventus Stadium. In the final moments, Simone Zaza entered for Morata and gave his side a deserved second goal. Again, all started with Dybala, "La Joya" fought an impossible ball in the middle of the park with two defenders. As a result the ball rebounded to Zaza, who accelerated towards Rico and finished calmly. Juventus earned another precious three points in the Champions League and a second chance to believe in themselves and their future as a team. LE PAGELLE Buffon 6.5 - Easy night for San Gigi, who was tested only once in the match. Barzagli 7 - What a game by the Italian express! Assisted Álvaro Morata and was an enforcer on the right flank. He fulfilled an unselfish performance. Bonucci 6.5 - Nice game by Leo. Along with Chiellini, bullied Gameiro and Immobile. Also distributed the ball coolly from the defense. Chellini 6.5 - He was always in control. Tracked easily the visitors' attacks. Evra 6.5 - Rock-solid as always. The French legend erased the speedster Yevhen Konoplyanka from the game. Pogba 6.5 - Played an excellent defensive game, however his side still needs his contribution on attack Hernanes 7 - Kudos to "the prophet," who bounced back from a terrible game against Napoli. He was calm in the middle and passed the ball smartly. Khedira 7 - Welcome, Sami. The World Cup winner is not a pitbull, but he definitely knows how to play the game. He set the tempo in the midfield and was the leader that Juventus has been missing on the pitch. Cuadrado 7.5 - Once again the Colombian showed his value. He was very active and always kept Selvilla defenders on their heels. Morata 7 - Mr. Champions League did it again. With his first-half strike, he tied Alesandro Del Piero's record of scoring five goals in five consecutive Champions League matches. Dybala 7.5 - Don't let his boy band looks fool you. This kid is a fighter and my man of the match. The Argentinian fought tirelessly and never backed down. The Dybala goals will come soon. Subs Sandro 6 - Replaced Khedira and had little impact. Zaza 7 - This guy has the eye of the tiger. In my opinion he´s not as talented as Dybala or Morata; However he has the determination to be a great striker. If he plays like this, he will return to the national team soon. Rugani s/v - His first official minutes as a bianconeri! Coach Allegri 7.5 - He's such a fox. He fooled everyone playing Barzagli on the right flank. Playing Khedira was a wise and aggressive choice. He outsmarted Emery and put Juventus in a great position to advance to the knockout round. Things I Think I think Juventus fulfilled my Fearless Forcast and I couldn't be happier. In Mad Max I trust. I can't wait to see Marchisio, Pogba and Khedira on the field together. Sevilla was toothless and looked like a Serie B team. Juventus Stadium was a volcano Wednesday. Juve definitely had 12 men on the pitch. Once again: Juventus is back. Fino alla Fine! Almost forgot: I wouldn't like to be Ciro Immobile.
  8. JUVENTUS - SEVILLA 2 - 0 Álvaro Morata (41') Simone Zaza (87') Matchday 2 Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 - 08:45 P.M. Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) Morata And Zaza Help Juventus Go Top After Comfortable Win Over Sevilla Alvaro Morata opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time and Simone Zaza hit his maiden Champions League goal at the death as Juventus dominated a listless Sevilla 2-0 to go top of group D on Wednesday. http://www.thehardtackle.com/2015/morata-and-zaza-help-juventus-go-top-after-comfortable-win-over-sevilla/? Oct 1, 2015 Juventus, last season’s beaten finalists, welcomed Unai Emery’s Europa League champions to Turin looking to prove that the poor domestic form that has seen them slump to 15th in Serie A is simply a blip. By the end of a completely one-sided encounter, it became apparent that Sevilla’s own domestic woes are likely to pose a much bigger threat for them this season. After just 30 seconds Paul Pogba spurned a great chance for the hosts when he mis-hit Morata’s chip over a thankful Sergio Rico’s crossbar. If fans thought it was a flash in the pan, they would be soon mistaken. Juventus settled quickly and were in complete command, annulling the threat of the listless Spaniards as they went about laying the foundations for Morata’s opener four minutes from the interval. After Pogba’s early chance, Brazilian Hernanes came close with a 30-metre drive that went just wide of Rico’s upright. Minutes later right-back Andrea Barzagli set Juan Cuadrado free with fans screaming at the Colombian to set up Morata, who was unmarked running through midfield. Morata ultimately lost possession, but the ease with which Juve were creating space was worrying for the visitors. Moments later, after a great exchange of passes Paulo Dybala sent a superb left-footed curling effort just wide of Rico’s right-hand post. Midfielder Sami Khedira, making his first appearance since hobbling off 25 minutes into a pre-match friendly with Marseille, was making a great impression on the 32,908 spectators given his two-month absence from competition. The German was given rousing applause when he deftly chested down a long ball at the left byeline to set up Dybala, but the Argentinian wasted the opportunity in front of goal. Sevilla went on a rare counter when skipper Jose Antonio Reyes stole possession from Morata to set up Kevin Gameiro, but it came to nothing. Morata scored his second goal of this season’s Champions League Juventus finally broke the deadlock on 41 minutes when Morata rose above the Sevilla defence to meet Cuadrado’s delivery from the right byeline and beat Rico down low at his far post. It was Morata’s second goal in the competition this season after his late winner at Manchester City. Juve resumed where they had left off after the interval and created two quick chances immediately after the restart. Giorgio Chiellini’s long ball from midfield found Dybala on the run but the diminutive striker’s deflected toe poke was blocked by Rico’s legs, while Pogba found space and time to fire a bicycle kick effort well over the crossbar from the edge of the area. Cuadrado’s movement and pace was too much for French left-back Benoit Tremoulinas, and on 64 minutes the on-loan Chelsea forward skipped by two players to set up Patrice Evra deep on the left but the Frenchman’s low delivery for Dybala yards from goal was deflected out. Emery made two quick substitutions, Ciro Immobile replacing Gameiro and Vicente Iborra coming on for Steven N’Zonzi, although the changes made little difference. Sevilla spent the next 10 minutes ball-watching as Juventus passed around at will, until Cuadrado broke the monotony with a vicious drive from outside the area that Rico did well to block. Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri replaced Morata with Zaza in the dying minutes and the Italy international seized his chance in style. Dybala did well to hold off his markers to send the Italian on a long run that ended with his angled strike beating Rico down low on 87 minutes.
  9. JUVENTUS - SEVILLA 2 - 0 Álvaro Morata (41') Simone Zaza (87') Matchday 2 Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 - 08:45 P.M. Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) Juventus excellent in Europe again thanks to Sami Khedira masterclass http://www.espnfc.co.uk/club/juventus/111/blog/post/2641208/juventus-excellent-in-europe-again-thanks-to-sami-khedira? Oct 1, 2015 Nothing quite revives the Old Lady and inspires the fluidity of a harmonious team unit quite like the melody of the Champions League anthem. In Europe, Juventus are a different beast, inflicting defeat upon great champions to top the Group of Death. On Wednesday night in the Juventus stadium, Sevilla were the latest side to experience the brilliance of a determined and aggressive Bianconeri side desperate for European honours. El Pais described the match as a fight between children and men. La giornalaccio rosa dello Sport dedicated Thursday's front page to "The Lady of Europe." In a match between two teams struggling for domestic success, Juve showed great maturity by putting their problems aside and working together towards one objective -- European victory. Never once betrayed by nerves or slight hesitation, the club and its fans can be optimistic again. The character of the side is still very much alive and kicking and with Sami Khedira back and performing like the experienced champion he is, one can only imagine a brighter future. This blog has consistently noted the importance of recovering Claudio Marchisio and Khedira. In a squad full of young talent and new recruits, the team requires intelligence, experience and leadership in midfield to help direct the game and inspire the others. Throwing Khedira into the starting line-up despite his recent return from injury, Massimiliano Allegri's gamble paid off as the midfielder dazzled from start to finish, earning the loud cheers of the fans who passionately applauded his performance. A champion whose midfield displays flutter the heart, Khedira immediately understood Allegri's tactical patterns to make a huge impact. Occupying space, making intelligent runs and taking up the right positions to facilitate his teammates' movements, the German international played as a leader does, always and only for the sake of the unit. At long last, there is a midfielder on the pitch who can help direct the talent of the youngsters around him, helping to expose their unique and varied skill set. His presence alone considerably improved the team's performance, one only imagines how much better the team would perform once they welcome Marchisio back into the fold. With the pressure piling and critics viciously demanding answers for Juve's collapsing identity, Allegri showed courage and won the tactical battle against a coach heavily coveted by Italy's top teams all summer, Sevilla's Unai Emery. Allegri opted to play his best men in a formation that dazzled as it not only masked the absence of a real right-back but it exploited the surprising strengths of certain players, such as Andrea Barzagli. Finally, critics and fans were allowed to watch Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata together again, a treat for those who believe this is the perfect attacking partnership. Friends off the pitch, the Spaniard's confidence and ruthlessness perfectly complement the creativity and intelligence of the Argentine alongside him, one who worked tirelessly for the sake of the team. Mesmeric on the ball, Dybala is a special talent who with a little time and continuity can grow into a champion. Many doubted his ability to make the jump to a big team, especially considering the considerable fee paid for his services yet the youngster has proved himself, showing off the mentality of a winner. Fighting for every ball before executing wonderful dribbles forward, Dybala is a player for the future, especially if he can improve his physicality and polish off his raw talent. With Morata alongside him, one can already see the perfect partnership blossoming. The Spaniard certainly knows how to score in Europe, notching up five goals in his last five matches in the Champions League. A player of immense ability and superb technique, he is the man to entrust to lead the Bianconeri line. While the new kids on the block impressed those who still yearn for the departed, Juventus' win was largely thanks to the veterans within the team. Leonardo Bonucci gave yet another commendable performance while Giorgio Chiellini was his usual monstrous self, closing down the little danger Emery's men created. However, it was Barzagli who truly dazzled, interpreting Allegri's skewed 3-5-2 formation perfectly. A defender who has yet to slow down, he ran relentlessly and perfectly managed the duality of the role required of him -- penetrating the wing with ease to dispatch accurate crosses as well as securing the defence. After all, it was he who delivered the all-important assist to help Morata score Juve's first goal of the night. Taking nothing away from the brilliant Old Lady, Sevilla hardly put up much of a challenge. The Spaniards have struggled this season and are missing several of their first choice players but many still expected a little more desire or at least a little more aggression from a side that won the Europa League only a few months ago. Shackled by nerves and focused on playing a defensive game where their only objective was not to concede, they made life difficult for the Italians when it came to creating but Gianluigi Buffon could have taken the night off and we would have been none the wiser considering the lack of interest shown in attacking the Juve back-line. Managing only one shot at goal, Los Nervionenses saw plenty of the ball yet struggled to keep it for long enough. As soon as a Bianconero applied enough pressure, the Andalusians would surrender possession and accept defeat. Noticeable against Rayo Vallecano and again so on Wednesday evening, Sevilla are struggling with the physical toll of playing in so many competitions. As Emery himself admitted, the intensity of the performance required in Champions League matches are different to those needed to win Europa League games and his players are exhausted, seemingly incapable of playing energetically for the duration of the match. It was only a matter of time before they conceded a second, especially when Simone Zaza and all his determination arrived on the pitch. A night to celebrate, Juventus deserve to top their Champions League group. All they need now is to show they can manage similar performance levels in the league.

Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) Unai Emery after Juventus defeat: Sevilla beaten by a great team The Basque coach hopes the return of key players from injury in the coming weeks will improve his side's fortunes after they were easily beaten in Turin on Wednesday. http://www.goal.com/en/news/1716/champions-league/2015/10/01/15893022/-? Oct 1, 2015 Unai Emery admitted his Sevilla side are on a learning curve after they lost 2-0 to Juventus in their second Champions League Group D fixture. Having beaten Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 to get their European campaign off to a flying start, Sevilla were brought back down to earth with a bump as they registered just one shot against a Juventus side that dominated from start to finish. Like Juve, Sevilla have started their domestic league season in poor form, and Emery called for patience as his new players settle in and others recover from injury. "Things went fairly well," he said. "We didn't have many scoring opportunities, granted, but there were improvements, and those obviously were not enough against a great side like Juventus. "When it was 0-0, we were at least holding out against Juve, but the moment we came under pressure, this great side obviously took advantage." Emery's side has been ravaged by injuries early in the campaign and nine players missed the trip to Juventus, but the coach remains confident fortunes will improve as the campaign progresses. "We have won one and lost one," he said. "There are another four games in this group and we will aim to play them as well as we can. With new players it takes more time for them to settle, especially with some of them injured. "I am optimistic and am working towards improvement.”

Sami Khedira returns – What a difference it makes to have an experienced midfielder back in the starting XI. He was a little rusty at times, but he pushed forward when he could to put pressure on the Sevilla back line and he tackled hard in the centre of the pitch to win the ball back. A great return to action 2. Andrea Barzagli as right-back – 34 years old and he still has the ability to surprise. A brilliant performance at right-back, great overlapping runs and a good understanding with Cuadrado that allowed them to exploit the right-flank. Provided the assist for the opening goal. Excellent 3. Bonucci, Bonucci, Bonucci – Defensively dominant but it was his distribution that really caught the eye. Played some sublime crosses that offered another dimension to the Juve attack. 4. Tactics – Allegri got things perfect tonight. The formation changed when Juve were in and out of possession, switching from a 4-3-3 to an occasional 3-5-2 when needed. Bravo Mister ! 5. Simone Zazazazaza ! – I know many don’t rate the guy, and it’s alright not to like him, but he does what he does with ease. Bullied the defence to score Juve’s second and seal the result. A battering ram of a striker for those nights when you can’t pick the lock. 13. JUVENTUS - SEVILLA 2 - 0 Álvaro Morata (41') Simone Zaza (87') Matchday 2 Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 - 08:45 P.M. Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) JUVENTUS 2-0 SEVILLA PLAYER RATINGS CHAMPIONS LEAGUE Juventus are top of their group following a scintillating 2-0 win over Sevilla in the Champions League. http://www.goal.com/en/match/juventus-vs-sevilla/2146808/ratings Sep 30, 2015 The Bianconeri started the stronger side from the kick off and their dominance eventually paid off when Andrea Barzagli floated a perfect cross for Alvaro Morata to head home. Sevilla tried to exert some control over the game but were hit on the counter when Paulo Dybala played a superb ball for Simone Zaza who bought the result beyond doubt. Gigi Buffon 6.5 - Barely had anything to do tonight. Plucked a few stray crosses out of the air and was strong on Sevilla corners. A spectator. Andrea Barzagli 7.5 - Could very easily be man of the match with a mature display at right-back, rather than centre-back. Bossed the right flank with ease, made grea runs into the Sevilla box and provided the perfect ball for Juve to open the scoring with. Exceptional. Leonardo Bonucci 7.5 - A brilliant performance from Juve’s best defender on the night. Intercepted numerous Sevilla crosses and played some sublime crosses to get the attack moving. Giorgio Chiellini 7.0 - A towering defensive display, kept Gameiro quiet for large spells of the game and protected the box for the entire 90 minutes with relative ease. Patrice Evra 6.5 - Another CL game, another performance that showed exactly why he’s so important to the team. Defensively sound, he got forward whenever he could and played some great crosses into the box. Sami Khedira 7.0 - What a difference it made to have him in the heart of the midfield. While he looked a little rusty at times, his experience showed. Hard-tackling with an eye for getting forward, his presence gave the midfield a more confident look to it. Hernanes 6.5 - A much improved showing after a poor display at the weekend. Looked more at home tonight, regularly pushed forward and had a number of shots on goal. Drifted out of the game in the second half. Paul Pogba 6.0 - Not back to his best but much better than in recent weeks. No flashy touches, just simple passing and intelligent runs off the ball. Improved Juan Cuadrado 7.0 - The majority of Juve’s attacks were focussed down the right, largely thanks to his dribbling. Beat his man again and again but his delivery lacked at times. A fine game, nonetheless. Alvaro Morata 6.5 - A good display with nothing to note until he headed home Juve’s opening goal to take his tally to 5 goals in 5 consecutive Champions League games. Paulo Dybala 6.5 - A great display from the youngster. Nice delivery on all his set-pieces, forcing a save from the keeper more than once. Set up the goal for Zaza to secure the win. Promising Substitutes Alex Sandro N/A Simone Zaza 6.5 - Looked a little off the pace but that was short-lived as he barged past the Sevilla defence to cooly finish past Rico. Daniele Rugani N/A

Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) TEAM RATINGS http://www.goal.com/en/match/juventus-vs-sevilla/2146808/ratings Sep 30, 2015 Juventus 1 G. Buffon - Forced into a couple of routine saves, but for the most part the experienced goalkeeper was untroubled. 15 A. Barzagli - Certainly had his hands full at the back, particularly when facing Tremoulinas, but he made several good blocks and provided the cross for Morata's goal. A good display. 19 L. Bonucci - A fine performance in the heart of defence. Cleared countless crosses, won a host of aerial duels and even played a couple of incisive passes in the final third. 3 G. Chiellini - Solid as ever. Like his partner Bonucci, the Italy international dealt easily with Gameiro in the area and made light work of most of Sevilla's deliveries. 33 P. Evra - A constant threat down the left, the Frenchman had the beating of Coke all night and delivered a number of very useful crosses. 6 S. Khedira - Given a delayed Juve debut after a thigh injury, but the German looked sharp, throwing his weight around in midfield and also providing an attacking threat a few times. 11 Hernanes - Caught the eye with a couple of lovely touches in midfield, though he was generally on the periphery of proceedings. 10 P. Pogba - Not at his absolute best, but the France star was excellent with his expansive distribution and he tracked back to make number of important tackles. 16 J. Cuadrado - A mixed bag from the Colombian. A real livewire on the ball and when running with it, but his crosses rarely met their mark. 9 Álvaro Morata - The Spaniard continued his great run in the Champions League, scoring with a well-placed header just before the break in an otherwise unspectacular performance. 21 P. Dybala - Full of effort and running, his final pass could have been better, but on the whole he was a real nuisance and he played a key role in Juve's second. Substitutes 12 Alex Sandro - Replaced Khedira for the final 15 minutes and his only notable contribution was to be clattered by Coke. 7 S. Zaza - Given the last 10 minutes in place of Morata and wrapped things up with a cool finish late on. 24 D. Rugani - N/A Sevilla 1 Sergio Rico - Continues to look a fine prospect and the 22-year-old was as assuring as ever, regularly coming out to make commanding punches and claims. Not given a chance for the goals. 23 Coke - Probably the weak point in Sevilla's defence. The right-back struggled with Evra's ventures forward and was beaten down the outside more than once. 17 M. Andreolli - It was all going so well for the centre-back on his return to Italy, but a lapse in concentration just before the break allowed Morata to head home. Otherwise he put in a good shift. 5 T. Kolodziejczak - A decent display from the Frenchman. Used his pace well and was rarely beaten in the air or on the deck, but a tame tackle late on played a big part in Zaza's clincher. 2 B. Trémoulinas - Found Cuadrado a tricky customer but was by no means out of his depth. Got forward well and provided an effective outlet, even if his crossing could have been better. 15 S. N'Zonzi - Worked hard in midfield and helped to crowd things out in the centre for long periods, but he made several rash tackles and amazingly stayed out of the referee's book. 4 G. Krychowiak - Battled away in typical fashion in midfield and surged forward to good effect a few times, but he was a little clumsy with a few passes in his own half. 10 José Antonio Reyes - One of Sevilla's better players in attack, the 32-year-old produced some lively touches and held the ball up well, but he perhaps could have looked for that killer pass more often. 7 M. Krohn-Dehli - The experienced Dane looked a threat when on the ball, but he spent more time having to track Cuadrado and he never really got near the Colombian. 22 Y. Konoplyanka - Rewarded for his winning goal at the weekend with a first start for the club, though his crossing was somewhat wayward and he did fade away badly in the final 15 minutes. 9 K. Gameiro - A lively presence in attack and he was full of running, but the Frenchman's distribution was not up to scratch on more than one occasion and he was regularly crowded out by the Juve defence. Substitutes 8 Iborra - Took the replace of N'Zonzi with 24 minutes to go but made next to no impact whatsoever. 11 C. Immobile - On for Gameiro in the 65th minute to a chorus of jeers, the Italy international showed nothing to suggest he will be back in the national team anytime soon. 30 Juan Muñoz - The Spain Under-19 international produced a couple of fancy flicks and got in Bonucci's face. Not a huge contribution, but more than Immobile.

Sep 30, 2015 Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri says he has ignored the criticism levelled at him in recent weeks and praised his side's defence following their 2-0 victory over Sevilla on Wednesday. The Italian champions beat their Spanish opponents thanks to goals from Alvaro Morata and Simone Zaza to go top of Group D on maximum points despite a troubled start to their domestic season. However, it was the rearguard's display that Allegri singled out for special praise, with the 48-year-old stating he always had confidence in himself and his team. "I have no stone in my shoe," he told reporters after the match. "I believe in what I do; why should I worry? "Tonight was the first step of a team that has to play at great levels. I was very happy with these guys, who want to grow and manage the game. "Over the past five years at Juventus and AC Milan I got good results, thanks to the players. The lads put in a good performance tactically, technically and defensively. "Sevilla are a very solid team and dangerous in attack, but when the lads are open to working hard and sacrificing themselves for the team, we can do well. "If you keep the ball it is easier to play, attack and defend. We still have to improve this aspect, but it is getting better." Goalscorer Morata also revealed his delight at scoring yet again in the Champions League this season, and talked up his emerging partnership with summer arrival Paulo Dybala. "I am happy to have scored a goal, but above all for the victory of the team," the Spaniard told reporters. "I haven’t been playing alongside Dybala for long, but we have an excellent rapport and spend a lot of time together off the field too.
  16. Cuadrado: Fans Should Believe In Juventus http://forzaitalianfootball.com/2015/10/cuadrado-fans-should-believe-in-juventus/? Sep 30, 2015 Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado says the club’s fans should have more belief in the Bianconeri after their 2-0 Champions League win over Sevilla on Wednesday. The Old Lady sealed a convincing win against the Andalusian club to take control of their Champions League group and Cuadrado believes the result underlines that Juventus are a great team and are still very much in the title race. “I’m glad I’ve settled in quickly,” Cuadrado told Sky Sport Italia. “My team mates have treated me well and everyday I try to work for the team and do what the coach asks of me. “I’m sure the fact I’ve experience of Italian football has helped me and also that the coach insists on playing simple football and having the strength to make a difference.” Juventus have dropped 13 points in just six league games this season, but Cuadrado remains confident the Bianconeri can fight their way back into contention for the title. “We’re doing badly in the league? These things happen in football, sometimes things don’t go well but I think the fans should believe in us because we are a great team,” continued Cuadrado. “Already we are thinking about training tomorrow and hopefully we can improve in the league to get back into the race for the Scudetto.” The Old Lady entertain Bologna on Sunday as they bid to reduce the gap on league leaders Fiorentina.

And when you've got a striker like Álvaro Morata who continues to deliver on the European stage, things look a little brighter than they do when Juve faces non-Italian competition this season. Hey, it could be worse. RIGHT, GUYS? Morata's goal was ultimately the difference maker once again in Europe, Simone Zaza got the icing on the cake with the clock winding down and Juventus became the only club with six points out of two games in Group D with their 2-0 win over Sevilla on Wednesday in Turin. It was, for as much as Juve have struggled domestically, the second straight signature win in the Champions League. JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen Tonight sees @AlvaroMorata equal @delpieroale's record of scoring in five consecutive @ChampionsLeague games. When you're doing things that Del Piero used to do in a Juventus jersey, you know you're doing something right. That's the kind of tonic Juve needed. And, just like we said after the Manchester City game, that's the kind of performance we hope Juve can build off of going forward into the weekend and onward. And it's easy to see why. Juventus not only had the edge in possession, but they dictated a game that they desperately needed to get a positive result in. Juve had the most amount of chances, and it wasn't even close when the final whistle blew. In case you don't believe me, well, then here's the evidence right in front of you: Juventus: 20 Sevilla: 1 That's the kind of dominance we've come to get used to with this team in previous seasons. And as much as I don't want to compare this season's team to last season, it's a pretty easy recipe to follow. You defend well, you take advantage of a couple of your best scoring chances and a win is very much in the cards. That's exactly what happened. Sometimes the scoreline isn't indicative of how the game went. This isn't one of those cases. It was Juventus playing arguably it's best game of the season to date. You may say, "Well, they don't have a lot of good ones to boast about!" and that's true. But this was as complete of a performance as we've seen from Max Allegri's squad this season. Allegri got the tactics right on the money, the players went out and executed it to perfection, they shut Sevilla down and got the three points. #EuroJuve is alive and well. That's something good to talk about. JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen .@OfficialAllegri: "Delighted with the lads tonight. They showed desire to hunt for a second even after we had taken the lead." Top of the group, man. Feels good, feels real good. Random thoughts and observations I know Sevilla had players out, but I'm surprised by how little they offered going forward. Gigi Buffon had to make one save, and it was easily one of the easiest saves he's had to make this season. That's it. Even at 1-0 things looked pretty much on lock from a Juventus point of view. Maybe that's because Juve were defending as well as they have all season long. Funny how having a super defense just seems to put so many other things at ease. Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini were all great against Sevilla. That's been the backbone of Juventus in the past, and it still is. Along the same lines as the team as a whole, we didn't have much of any kind of idea what to expect from Sami Khedira in his Juventus debut. And much like the team as a whole after the 2-0 win over Sevilla, we can firmly say that Khedira's Juventus debut was a resounding success. He proved to be exactly what the Juventus midfield needed. He brought smarts and calmness to the center of the park. Juan Cuadrado was quite good once again. This isn't your Chelsea version of Cuadrado, folks. I'm perfectly happy to keep reminding people of that. Make that the second straight Champions League game where Paul Pogba was really, really good. For how talented he is and how many tricks he has, it's amazing how good he can be when he simplifies things on the field. With Khedira now back and Claudio Marchisio returning soon after the international break is over, this is the best possible thing to happen to Pogba this season. You get Pogba and Khedira playing like they did against Sevilla and add Marchisio into the fold, I love the sound of that. Ciro Immobile was the Juve fans' punching bag the second he stepped onto the field. Knowing what he's said about the club he was a primavera star at, that's not necessarily the worst thing in the world. You say stupid stuff, you gotta expect some kind of reminder about it. And that's exactly what happened. Paulo Dybala's work on the ball on Zaza's goal was impressive for the simple reason that he shed two defenders in the 86th minute of a game where he ran his tail off, but also the fact that he had the strength to do so. We know that Dybala has the talent to become a truly special player, and the more he shows us, the more he will grow into this team. I can't wait to see the kid's development in bianconero. Notice who was Juventus' highest-ranked player when it came to ground covered in that link above? Hernanes. Didn't expect that, did you? The one mystery in Allegri's pre-match press conference lineup announcement certainly came through with a very good game in the middle of Pogba and Hernanes. The Bianconeri sit a staggering ten points off leaders Fiorentina after just six league games, but Zaza, who scored the Italian giants’ second against the La Liga side, says their performances in Europe underline their credentials when it comes to challenging for the title. “I’d only came on as a substitute and wanted to make the most of the opportunity,” Zaza told Mediaset following the match at the Juventus stadium. “My goal only happened as a result of Morata and Dybala tiring the opposition defenders throughout the game. “It was my first Champions League game and the atmosphere ahead of it was not positive. “On Sunday we have another important match, the league is not over as we’ve lost points but they are points we can recover.” Juventus entertain Bologna on Sunday as they try to claw themselves back into the title race.

Sep 30, 2015 Massimiliano Allegri noted Juventus are “learning to play at the top level” and believes Juan Cuadrado “can become unstoppable.” The Bianconeri maintained their 100 per cent Champions League record with a 2-0 victory over Sevilla “The lads put in a good game, but still need to read the various moments of the match,” Allegri told Mediaset Premium. “After an intense opening 30 minutes, we should’ve controlled the tempo better, but instead got stretched out and created space for Sevilla in midfield. “In the second half the team did better at reading the game, slowing the tempo and then accelerating at the right moment. “This is the first step for a team that is still learning how to play at the top level.” Allegri had been bitterly criticised following Juve’s worst Serie A start in almost 50 years, but his European record is remarkable. “I believe in what I do. In my five years between Milan and Juve, thanks to the players at my disposal, I have achieved some decent results. If people like me is not my problem.” Amid an injury crisis, the Coach fielded a skewed 3-5-2 with Andrea Barzagli occasionally turning into a right-back. “Regardless of systems, it is the willingness of the players to put themselves at the disposal of the team that makes the difference. Growth also comes through bad performances, as it’s how the young players learn.” Cuadrado was impressive in attack, although Allegri had some advice. “He has pace and great technique when taking men on. Tonight he played better compared to his performances against Chievo and Udinese. “He is starting to realise when to pass the ball. If he learns the timing and when to set up his teammates, he can become simply unstoppable.”

Juventus maintained their 100% record in the Champions League with a 2-0 win at home against Sevilla to stay top of Group D. Mad Max spoke to JTV after the game - "The lads put in a good performance, tacticallly, technically and defensively. We had a very young attack with little international experience. "Hernanes had a good game after all the criticism of his performance at Napoli, which was too bad to be real. I am satisfied. "Sevilla are a very solid team and dangerous in attack, but when the lads are open to working hard and sacrificing themselves for the team, we can do well. "Against Napoli we got it wrong technically, making many errors to allow lots of counter-attacks. Even then, towards the end we were still in the running for an equaliser. "If you keep the ball it is easier to play, attack and defend. We still have to improve this aspect, but it is getting better." In an interview with Sky Sport, he said - "Even in the league we have done well but we could not win, now we think to Sunday. Tonight the guys did a great match, they handled the ball well without getting caught by the result. When we are united it comes out in these games. Tonight we had a fit young team, but we can still grow. Defense? Tonight we were perfect, allowing little. Especially in the second half. I was sure we would win, I have always been clear. But now we put away Sevilla and we think to Bologna. " Regarding some of the criticism he has received, Allegri went on to say - "The criticism that we received? I have no pebble to take off. I am convinced of what I do and it seems to have gotten several good results. Maybe you do not like or do not understand some of my jokes. But I am from Livorno, I can not do nothing." Game winner Alvaro Morata also spoke to the media after he matched club legend Alessandro Del Piero's record of scoring in five consecutive Champions League games for the Bianconeri - "I am happy to have scored a goal, but above all for the victory of the team. Sep 30, 2015 Paulo Dybala explained his assist for Simone Zaza against Sevilla and wants to “take Juventus to the top.” Alvaro Morata scored in the first half, while the 2-0 victory was sealed late on by Zaza. “When I saw Zaza was running forward on his own, I hoped for the goal, as I knew with a second goal we would’ve been close to the win,” Dybala told Mediaset Premium. “We put in a great performance and deserved to win the game.” It was perhaps the ex-Palermo man’s best showing so far in a Bianconeri jersey. “I have to work a great deal, because this is a team that has been accustomed to winning for quite some time. We work to play games like this. We want to take Juventus to the top and I want to continue putting in great performances.”

Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) Juventus overwhelm Sevilla to stay perfect in Champions League http://www.espnfc.co.uk/uefa-champions-league/match/434244/juventus-sevilla-fc/report? Sep 30, 2015 Juventus may be struggling in Serie A but it is a different story in the Champions League with the Italian giants clinching the second win in as many games on Wednesday with a home triumph over Sevilla. Spanish forward Alvaro Morata put the Italians ahead in the 41st minute and his replacement Simone Zaza sealed the victory with a second goal three minutes from time. Morata, who had scored the winner in a 2-1 triumph at Manchester City in the Italian club's opening Group D game, celebrated his fifth Champions League goal in as many games at the Juventus stadium. Juve, without six players through injury and suspension, including forward Mario Mandzukic, were the better team on the night against an out-of-form Sevilla side that tested Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon only once. The Andalusian outfit, last season's Europa League winners, won 3-0 over Borussia Monchengladbach in their opener but in Spain's La Liga they have just a single win from six games. Sevilla almost went behind in the opening minute when Morata fed Paul Pogba in the box but the Frenchman struck the ball over the bar. In the ninth minute, Hernanes found space just outside the area and drilled a right-footed shot that went wide of the far post. Paulo Dybala also went close in the 17th minute when he drilled a left-footed attempt from the edge of the box just over the bar. Sevilla had their only shot on goal in the 34th minute. Jose Antonio Reyes' free kick had power but lacked precision and was saved by Buffon. Juve finally scored before the interval after Andrea Barzagli's cross from the right found Morata in the box and the Spaniard headed the ball down and into the far corner of the goal to beat Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico. Juve picked up where they left off after the restart and in the 51st minute Rico was forced to clear Dybala's left-footed shot from 15 yards. Dybala then warmed the hands of Rico with a powerful free-kick which the keeper punched away just after the hour. Rico remained involved and kept out Juan Cuadrado's long-range attempt in the 74th minute. Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri brought in Zaza in place of Morata with 10 minutes remaining and the move proved a success. A fast counter-attack saw Dybala play Zaza through on goal and the Italian forward surged towards the Sevilla area before hitting a right-footed shot past a helpless Rico to wrap up the win. Wednesday's outcome will be a big boost in confidence for a Juve side that sits 15th in the Serie A standings with just one victory and three defeats in their opening six league matches.

Juventus Stadium, Turin Referee:‬ Jonas Eriksson (Sweden) CL: Juventus see off Sevilla http://www.football-italia.net/73709/cl-juventus-see-sevilla? Sep 30, 2015 Alvaro Morata matched a Juventus record and Simone Zaza sealed a 2-0 Champions League victory over Sevilla. Manchester City fought back (and saved a penalty) to win 2-1 away to Borussia Monchengladbach. This means Juve are top of the group on six points, Sevilla and City have three each, while the German side are on zero. Claudio Marchisio, Mario Mandzukic, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Stefano Sturaro, Kwadwo Asamoah and ‘suspended’ Martin Caceres were all unavailable, but Sami Khedira made his first competitive start after picking up an injury over the summer. Like Juve, Sevilla were struggling domestically and doing well in Europe, but missed Fernando Llorente, Adil Rami, Ever Banega, Daniel Carriço, Escudero, Kakuta and Vitolo. Hernanes blasted an early effort wide and Paulo Dybala’s curler was just past the far top corner from a Khedira lay-off. Juan Cuadrado was causing Sevilla all sorts of problems down the right, but was flagged offside when his chip was over from six yards. Khedira chested down the ball and got to the by-line, but the pull-back was just behind Dybala and the ex-Palermo man stumbled. Andrea Barzagli was surprisingly playing at times as a right-back, but it worked because he whipped in a cross for Morata to rise above two defenders and place a precise header into the far bottom corner. It was the Spaniard’s fifth consecutive Champions League goal, equalling the club record set by Alessandro Del Piero. After the restart, a long Juve passing move was finished by Dybala’s angled drive, beaten away at the near post by Sergio Rico’s legs. The goalkeeper also parried a Dybala free kick that pierced the defensive wall, then the ex-Palermo striker was closed down at the last second when meeting a Patrice Evra cross. Ciro Immobile was jeered loudly by the crowd due to his past at rivals Torino. Juan Cuadrado’s snapshot stung Rico’s gloves, then the Colombian was denied by a crucial Benoit Tremoulinas block on Dybala’s chested assist. Juventus locked down the victory late on with two of their new players combining. Dybala fought between two Sevilla defenders to win back possession and poked the pass through to send Simone Zaza running. The ex-Sassuolo striker sprinted with fresh legs from midfield and kept his cool to slide the finish past Rico.
