The Argentine was rested for the Bianconeri's 1-0 victory over Parma in midweek, but he is back to partner Fernando Llorente in the attack. Gianluigi Buffon and Paul Pogba are also restored to the starting lineup, but they are without the injured Arturo Vidal and the suspended Claudio Marchisio. As for Udinese, Antonio Di Natale and Cyril Thereau lead their attack, while midfielder Allan makes his 100th appearance for the club. 4. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Line-ups: Udinese-Juventus Feb 1, 2015 Juventus have the chance to go nine points clear at the top, but have midfield problems against Antonio Di Natale’s Udinese. It kicks off at 15.00 CET at the Stadio Friuli. Roma are in crisis and their fourth consecutive draw, 1-1 with Empoli last night, means Juve can consolidate their Serie A leadership. Max Allegri is forced into some changes, as Claudio Marchisio is suspended with Arturo Vidal, Kwadwo Asamoah and Romulo injured. Sebastian Giovinco was not called up, fuelling reports he will terminate his contract early to join Toronto FC. Allegri looks as if he is changing to a 3-5-2 system for this fixture. The Bianconeri needed an 89th-minute Alvaro Morata goal to get the better of Parma in the Coppa Italia quarter-final midweek and looked far from sharp. Roberto Pereyra gets the chance to play against his former teammates. Udinese have numerous absentees too, as Panagiotis Kone begins a three-match ban. Giampiero Pinzi, Alexandre Geijo, Emmanuel Badu, Maurizio Domizzi, Molla Wague and Lucas Evangelista are all unavailable. Di Natale leads the way, as always, with support from Cyril Thereau. In the last four Serie A home games against Juventus, Udinese have scored one goal and suffered three defeats. Udinese: Karnezis; Heurtaux, Danilo, Piris, Gabriel Silva, Allan, Bruno Fernandes, Guilherme, Widmer; Di Natale, Thereau Juventus: Buffon; Caceres, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Pereyra, Pirlo, Pogba, Evra; Tevez, Llorente Juventus bench: Storari, Rubinho, Barzagli, Ogbonna, De Ceglie, Padoin, Pepe, Coman, Morata http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  5. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Roma will push Juventus all the way - Pirlo The midfielder stressed Roma's recent struggles have not made the Scudetto race a cakewalk for the champions and discussed their upcoming European battle with Dortmund. Feb 1, 2015 Andrea Pirlo has stressed his belief that Juventus will be pushed by Roma all the way this season - despite the gap opening up at the top of Serie A. Massimiliano Allegri's men have won three Scudetti in a row, all under previous coach Antonio Conte, and currently sit six points clear in the Italian top flight with the capability of going nine points adrift with a win over Udinese on Sunday. Pirlo, who has been a key part of Juve's team over the past three and a half seasons, does not think that Rudi Garcia's side are fading in the title race despite their run of draws in the league. "We are early in the second half of the season," the Italy international told JTV. "We have to keep winning to keep Roma at bay. "Our current lead does not mean anything. Roma are strong and will continue to give us a hard time." Pirlo also discussed Juve's upcoming Champions League round of 16 clashes with Borussia Dortmund, who are rock bottom in the Bundesliga, and he thinks that seizing the advantage on home soil is essential. "Against the Germans, the first leg with be crucial," the veteran midfielder, 35, said of the home tie in Turin. "Winning that would allow us to play the return leg with greater confidence." 6. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Strama: 'Udinese fight Juve to the death' Feb 1, 2015 Andrea Stramaccioni warned Udinese “will fight to the death” against Juventus this afternoon. “We learned our lesson.” It kicks off at the Stadio Friuli at 15.00 CET. “I was clear with the team: we are going through an excellent period of form and this is why we must try to play our game,” said the Coach. “Of course we are facing the best team in Italy, but we are ready for them. Humble but determined, we are Udinese and we will fight to the death.” Juve beat Udinese 2-0 in Turin back in September with Carlos Tevez and Claudio Marchisio on target. “We learned our lesson on a tactical level. Tevez is basically an added midfielder, which was the tactical key last time out. He forced us to ‘lose’ a defender, leaving space to push up. “We must not repeat the same mistake. We need grit and the support of the fans too.” Panagiotis Kone starts a three-match ban, while Maurizio Domizzi, Giampiero Pinzi, Alexandre Geijo, Emmanuel Badu and Molla Wague are unavailable. Udinese squad for Juventus: Karnezis, Meret, Scuffet; Bubnjic, Danilo, Faraoni, Gabriel Silva, Heurtaux, Pasquale, Piris, Widmer; Allan, Fernandes, Guilherme, Hallberg, Jadson; Aguirre, Di Natale, Thereau http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  7. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Udinese vs. Juventus Preview: Round 21 Bianconeri on Bianconeri crime Feb 1, 2015 Just how one-sided have things been between Juventus and Udinese the last couple of years? Let's take a look. Juventus have won their last six games against Udinese. Juventus have recorded shutouts in their last four games against Udinese. Juventus have scored at least two goals in five of their last six games against Udinese. That sure sounds pretty nice, doesn't it? I like Juventus winning games. And so should you. (Unless you don't root for Juventus, obviously.) There's another thing... Juventus has been getting plenty of help lately — but not exactly the kind that would have the Italian papers going absolutely bonkers over a potential controversy that is full of headline-grabbing material. Juventus' lead atop the Serie A table has grown to as many as eight points in recent weeks. It currently stands at six after Roma had another disappointing result, this time a 1-1 draw against Empoli on Saturday night. That means when Juve travel to the Stadio Friuli for a Sunday afternoon showdown with their bianconeri brethren, they'll have the chance to stretch their lead over their closest competition to a season-high nine games. I don't know about you, but that sounds like a wonderful thing to see happen. JuventusFC ✔ @juventusfcen .@OfficialAllegri: "Our aim is to come away with three points at this crucial moment of the season. But it won't be easy." While it's true Juventus haven't played all that great in their last couple of games — a 2-0 win over Chievo and a 1-0 win against Parma in the Coppa Italia — they're getting results. That's more than we can say these days when it comes Roma, which has drawn five out of the last six Serie A matches. (Not good.) Will the recent dominance over Udinese be the cure for Juve's less-than-stellar showings over the past seven days? That sure would be nice. And if that happens, then it will be more than just a six-point lead atop the table for Juventus. That, too, would be pretty nice. GOOD NEWS Roma continue to drop points even when they get beneficial refereeing decisions. And because of it, the lead atop the Serie A table has the potential get even larger. That bares repeating, I think. Why? Because it's a wonderful development — especially since things were about as tight as they can get in December. BAD NEWS Claudio Marchisio is suspended due to his yellow card against Chievo and therefore we won't be able to look at his wonderful face for a couple of hours. Well, at least there's image searching on Google if you so please at halftime. Also missing out is Arturo Vidal, who isn't fully fit thanks to a minor knee injury. It hasn't been a good couple of weeks for Vidal, has it? WHAT TO WATCH FOR 1. Juventus (likely) going back to the 3-5-2. Because of Marchisio and Vidal not being called up, the choices in the center of the midfield for Max Allegri are about as slim as they've been in quite a while. That will likely mean Allegri switches to a 3-5-2, something he has done in the past if the situation has called for it. Of course, when we hear '3-5-2' these days, the thoughts aren't exactly the most positive and could possibly make us want to throw a thing or two across the room. But the potential decision from Allegri to change formations makes sense considering who is available for selection this weekend. Here's to hoping that Juventus at least produce a little bit more against Udinese than the last time they used a three-man defense from the start. 2. Paul Pogba and his continued on-form magnificence. The month of January was one where the 21-year-old French midfielder took over games. Like, more than before. He scored goal after goal, blew up Vine videos with moves that put defenders on skates, and had the whole world of football talking about him even more than before. January might as well have been renamed Pogba Month based on how well he's played since Juve came back from the Christmas/holiday break. We're witnessing the continued development of one of the world's best players right before all our eyes. And the way things are going, who knows when Pogba will finally reach his true peak potential. Either way, he's killing it right now, and doesn't look like he's going to slow down anytime soon. 3. Does Álvaro Morata get another start? We've been seeing a lot of Mr. Morata lately. And, to be honest, it's not like that's really a bad thing. This is the first time in his early Juventus career that he's been receiving consistent playing time, with him taking advantage of it for the most part. His game-winning goal against Parma in the Coppa Italia midweek was his first big-time difference maker he's had in a Juventus shirt. But, like he has done so many times before this season, Allegri left the door open at his pre-match press conference to Fernando Llorente potentially get the start against Udinese on Sunday. Who knows if that truly does mean anything. If I've learned anything about Allegri and what he says about lineups, he's never going to truly tip his hand. I guess that's 4. Containing Toto Di Natale. At the tender age of 37, Antonio Di Natale is still one of the most efficient strikers in Serie A. In 18 league games (16 starts), he's got nine goals, which ranks him sixth in Italy's top flight. Now, you may be telling yourself, "Well, Juventus hasn't allowed a goal in nearly a month, so what's the big deal?" And that line of thinking could be considered legitimate and worthwhile. But this is Toto, who has been known to be a complete pest and has scored a handful of goals against Juventus in the past. Basically what I'm trying to say is, if there's one person Juve's defense needs to keep an eye on Sunday afternoon, it's Antonio Di Natale. It doesn't matter how old he may be. He's still good at game. My starting XI (3-5-2): Buffon; Cáceres, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Pereyra, Pirlo, Pogba, Evra; Tévez, Morata OFFICIAL KICKOFF TIME: 3 P.M. IN ITALY; 9 A.M. ON THE EAST COAST; 6 A.M. ON THE WEST COAST http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  8. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Roma held to draw for fourth straight game in Serie A Jan 31, 2015 Roma were held to their fourth successive Serie A draw, but reduced the arrears on league leaders Juventus to six points with a 1-1 result against Empoli. Massimo Maccarone scored from the penalty spot for Empoli after Kostas Manolas was sent off in the 37th minute. Riccardo Saponara was also shown a red card on the stroke of half-time as both sides ended the game with 10 men. Maicon levelled just shy of the hour mark, but Roma could not find a winner and could find themselves nine points adrift at the top of the table if Juve win at Udinese. Empoli have won many admirers this season for their attractive brand of football and they displayed no fear of showing it at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening. Twenty-three points may have separated the two sides coming into this game, but for the first half hour, it would have been easier to predict that Empoli were that far ahead of Roma, such was the difference in quality. It was anything but the kind of performance one might expect from the Giallorossi, and they could have no complaints at going into the break a goal behind. That goal arrived from the penalty spot after Manolas fouled Saponara as he was preparing to shoot with only Morgan De Sanctis to beat. The result was a red card for the Greek defender and a chance which Maccarone took, driving the ball emphatically to the left of De Sanctis. Roma's uphill struggle to recover was levelled off slightly for them in first-half stoppage time when Saponara was shown a second yellow card for handball. The transformation in Roma was evident from the opening exchanges of the second half with Maicon looking particularly inspired, finding space down the right that was not there in the first half. He wanted a penalty in the 52nd minute when he cut inside and went to ground, but while he did not get that, he did get the equalising goal five minutes later when he was again left completely unmarked to stroke the ball into the far corner with his weaker left foot from Miralem Pjanic's pass. Davide Astori's header grazed the top of the crossbar and Radja Nainggolan had a few sighters as Roma searched for a winner. They risked losing it, though, when another penalty could justifiably have been awarded to Empoli when Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa charged Manuel Pucciarelli, but the referee this time waved play on. In the end, Rudi Garcia's side lost the energy to persist with both sides having to settle for a draw - Roma's sixth in their last eight games. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  9. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Udinese - Juventus Match Preview Jan 31, 2015 Ninth-place Udinese host Juventus at the Friuli in Italy’s very own black and white derby. The only thing one can say with absolute certainty about the hosts is that they’re wildly unpredictable - Udinese ended a miserable five-game winless streak late last year by beating Inter on the road, before then falling at home to Verona. Whilst the Zebrette have put up a stiff fight on the road against strong opposition like Sampdoria, Sassuolo and Empoli, who they beat on Monday, they are a walking disaster at home, where they now have three draws against minnows Cesena, Chievo and Cagliari. Former Inter Coach Andrea Stramaccioni has been a mixed bag, flirting with four at the back before reverting to the three his predecessor Francesco Guidolin used. Even more surprisingly, Cyril Thereau has netted seven goals this season, finally providing Antonio di Natale with the foil the Zebrette have been looking for since Alexis Sanchez’s departure. Udinese’s midfield could struggle, however, with Panagiotis Kone suspended for three matches and midfielders Emmanuel Badu and Molla Wague still in Africa. Juventus, on the other hand, seem to have returned to their consistent ways after dropping points to Inter, Sampdoria and Fiorentina in the space of a few weeks. Whilst Roma can’t seem to stop drawing, the Old Lady has won three on the trot and has a seven-point cushion at the top of the table. A key stat here is that Juventus have only dropped two points against bottom-10 teams, and that was against Sassuolo, who played very well to tie 1-1 in the autumn. Paul Pogba is on a tear at the moment, adding two goals against Verona and Chievo to the screamer he netted against Napoli three weeks ago. The Turinese outfit has been just as happy to discover a new talent in Roberto Pereyra, the former Udinese man impressing in his 18 games with a goal and two assists, as well as a clean disciplinary slate. Keep an eye on: Orestis Karnezis (Udinese) - Last year, all anyone could talk about was teenage sensation Simone Scuffet, who began life in Serie A with six clean sheets in his first 10 games. This season, however, he has been quietly dethroned by Karnezis, and the Greek international has not disappointed, averaging the highest performance mark across Italy’s papers by far, with an excellent 6.40. Di Natale and Allan are also on the podium with 6,33 and 6,21 respectively. Karnezis has, quite simply, been a life saver, and in a game in which Juventus are very likely to pile up the chances, it will be crucial to have a reliable shotstopper in goal. His average giornalaccio rosa rating is fifth in Serie A among goalkeepers with 20 or more appearances. Form Guide: Udinese (D L D D W) Juventus (W D W W W) Last season: Udinese 0-2 Juventus Stat fact: Five years. It has been almost five years (March 3, 2010) since Antonio di Natale scored a League goal against Juventus. Despite netting exactly 100 since the beginning of the 2010-11 season, he has failed to score against the Old Lady in that timeframe. Udinese can count on the fact that all of his goals - minus the one he bagged last week against Empoli - have come at home. Udinese (probable): Karnezis, Heurtaux, Danilo, Piris; Widmer, Allan, Guilherme, Fernandes, Pasquale; Thereau, Di Natale Suspended: Kone Juventus (probable): Buffon, Caceres, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Pereyra, Pirlo, Pogba, Evra; Morata, Tevez Suspended: Marchisio http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  10. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Allegri Squashes Rumors Of Vidal Bust Up Ahead Of Udinese Clash Jan 31, 2015 Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has brushed aside reports of an altercation between him and midfielder Arturo Vidal before his side’s trip to the Stadio Friuli to take on Udinese. The Chilean midfielder was substituted during the second half of the Bianconeris’ Coppa Italia quarterfinal against Parma and was not in good spirits as he left the pitch, but Allegri played down the situation. “I was amazed by the Tuttosport headlines. If a player leaves the field angry because he was replaced it is part of football,” he stated at his pre-match press conference. “Vidal had knee surgery, then played at the World Cup and it is normal that he is suffering but the doctors and other staff members have done a really good job with him. “He took a knock to his ankle against Parma but I think he will be available for the match against AC Milan.” Allegri then highlighted that playing the Zebrette in their own stadium is a demanding task and warned his players not to take their opponents lightly. “It is difficult because winning in Udine is never easy. They are coming off a victory against Empoli and they play very well in the spaces and have Di Natale who always scores goals. We will therefore approach this match with great care.” The 47-year-old also spoke about the Bianconeri’s transfer market activities which have, on the whole, been low profile. “It is a crucial time because the market closes Monday. Paolo De Ceglie has returned from his loan spell at Parma and he can come in handy in the absence of Asamoah. “And if we part with Giovinco before the window closes, we surely need another striker.” http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  11. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Juventus call De Ceglie already Jan 31, 2015 Juventus have Paolo De Ceglie back for the trip to Udinese, but Claudio Marchisio and Arturo Vidal miss out. It kicks off on Sunday at 15.00 CET. De Ceglie is thrown straight into the squad after he was recalled from a season-long loan at Parma early. Marchisio is suspended, while Vidal, Kwadwo Asamoah and Romulo are sidelined. Sebastian Giovinco is not included in the team, fuelling reports he'll terminate his contract by mutual consent in order to join Toronto FC early. Juventus squad for Udinese: Buffon, Chiellini, Caceres, Ogbonna, Pogba, Pepe, Morata, Tevez, Coman, Llorente, Barzagli, De Ceglie, Bonucci, Padoin, Pirlo, Lichtsteiner, Storari, Evra, Rubinho, Pereyra http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  12. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Stramaccioni: Udinese Will Do Its Best To Get A Result Against Juventus Jan 31, 2015 Udinese coach Andrea Stramaccioni believes the Zebrette are set to finally do away with their recent ‘bad luck’ as they prepare to play host to league leaders Juventus on Sunday. The Bianconeri have only collected one win from their last six Serie A matches, but the 39-year-old is confident his side can build off their 2-1 victory over Empoli last Monday despite coming up against the defending champions. “I think that the important thing is the trend in performances the squad has taken on,” he stated at his pre-match press conference as reported by tuttoudinese.it. “I would list is it as starting with the Inter match, along with the defeat to Verona, where we played a great first half. “We have had a lot of unfortunate events so I think that we are undergoing a good run of performances. We know that the best team in Italy are arriving, but we want to try and play our match. “Allegri alternates between several formations. However they present themselves, we will do our best to get the result. “Muriel? I want to wish good luck to Luis, a player that was always available with me but unfortunately very unlucky. “He could have spared a few more grateful words for Udinese because if he is in top level football it is also thanks to this club, but I am also sure he will do that in his next interview.” http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  13. Tevez: I'm still leaving Juventus for Boca Juniors next year The Argentine is a real fan favourite in Turin but he has no intention of going back on his longstanding plan to finish his career at La Bombonera. Jan 31, 2015 Carlos Tevez had made it clear that he has not intention of extending his stay at Juventus and will return to Boca Juniors when his contract expires in 2016. The Argentine penned a three-year contract upon joining the Bianconeri in the summer of 2013 and adapted wonderfully well to life in Serie A, firing the Old Lady to the Scudetto last season. Tevez has proven even more prolific this term, with 13 goals in 19 league games, meaning the Juve faithful are understandably desperate to see the striker extend his stay in Turin. However, the 30-year-old is intent on rejoining his first professional club, Boca, and is annoyed that the media have created such a furore over his future, given he never made a secret of his plan to return to La Bombonera. "I've already said it many times," he told Tuttosport. "For me, this discussion is closed. "When I signed for three years with Juve, I said from the start, also to the club, that this would be my last contract before returning to Boca. But nobody said anything. "Then, I said the same things again, including the fact I would return home at the end of my contract. "But the problem is that when there is no news, they try to pull something out of nowhere. "However, before leaving, I want to win it all here."
  14. Pogba sends rumour mill spinning with Spanish revelation PSG, Manchester United and Chelsea are all keen on signing the Frenchman but has the 21-year-old hinted he wants to continue his career in La Liga? Jan 31, 2015 Real Madrid's hopes of winning the race to sign Paul Pogba have been boosted by the revelation that the Juventus star is learning Spanish. The France international, 21, is under contract with the Scudetto holders until 2019 but the midfielder's agent announced on Friday that he expects Pogba to depart Turin inside the next 18 months. Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been linked with a €100 million move for the midfielder but, if Pogba's latest comments are a hint towards his destination, then it looks like his future might lie in La Liga. "I'm very happy in Turin," the 21-year-old told 'Filo Diretto' on JTV. "It's a perfect city. "I love to live every day to the fullest. When I'm not busy with the team, I like to watch television or go out with my friends, Juve full-back Patrice Evra and forward Fernando Llorente. "It's thanks to Llorente that I'm learning Spanish." Pogba has gone from strength-to-strength since joining Juve from Manchester United in the summer of 2012, winning two Serie A titles as well as the award for the best young player at last year's World Cup.
  15. Tevez: 'All for Juve until Boca' Jan 31, 2015 Carlos Tevez confirmed he will “defend the Juventus jersey till death,” but then return to Boca Juniors in 2016. The Argentine’s current contract expires in June 2016 and he has never disguised his intention to return home in the final years of his career. “The Number 10 will always belong to Alessandro Del Piero, but I will defend the Juventus jersey till death. I think of the club symbol on the front. That is the biggest responsibility,” he told Tuttosport. “The future is for me already done and dusted. When I signed with Juventus I was very clear to the directors that it would be my last contract before my return to Boca. However, first I want to win everything here. “The Champions League is everyone’s dream. We believe that we can go forward, as Juve have four or five real champions supported by a great team. Paul Pogba has the right mind-set and he will become a champion. “The Scudetto will be a battle side by side with Roma until the very end.” Tevez confessed to being “surprised” that Antonio Conte quit Juve just one day into pre-season training, but has now adapted well to Max Allegri. “All the Juventini struggled to comprehend Conte’s decision at first. There was uncertainty at that time and we were worried. I always focused only on training. “With Allegri we changed tactical system, but not the spirit of the squad. With him I have more freedom on the pitch.” There are reports Daniel Osvaldo could return to Juventus on loan from Inter after his furious row with the Nerazzurri. “I read that Juventus want him and that makes me happy,” added Tevez. “He is a great friend. He’s a good lad really, just more hot-blooded than others... He has to learn to control himself more. He certainly couldn’t get away with that sort of thing here, because Juve don’t mess about.”
  16. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Udinese - Juventus Preview: Pirlo not taking Serie A lead for granted The champions have opened up a seven-point advantage at the top of the table but the experienced midfielder insists his side cannot afford to slip up. Jan 31, 2015 Andrea Pirlo has played down the significance of Juventus' seven-point gap to Roma at the top of Serie A and called for focus ahead of Sunday's trip to Udinese. Juve's bid for a fourth consecutive Scudetto appears well on course, with the Turin club having lost just once in the league this season. Nearest challengers Roma have hit a dip in form recently and a run of four draws in their past five league matches has seen Rudi Garcia's side fall slightly off the pace. Veteran midfielder Pirlo expects Roma to fight back, though, and is wary of a tough visit to the Stadio Comunale Friuli. "A seven-point lead is nothing," he told Juventus' official website. "It's [udinese] a difficult venue to play at. "They approach the game following a decent win at Empoli which took them away from the congested pack in mid-table, so they’ll be able to play with clear heads. "We need to win to keep Roma at bay, they'll give us a run for our money right until the end." Pirlo's distinguished career has seen him win five Serie A titles with Juve and AC Milan, while twice winning the Champions League with the latter. Even at the age of 35, the former Inter man remains hungry to add to his medal haul. "That's my character, I'm not the type of person who needs to find my focus in the days leading up to the game," he added. "I'm able to enjoy a laugh and a joke, but the minute I get on the pitch and hear the crowd, I'm immediately in the zone and focused on the target. "You need to possess the desire to keep winning, playing and having fun. Having the right mindset is crucial for a footballer." Massimiliano Allegri's side, who will give a late check to Arturo Vidal after he hurt his knee in Wednesday's 1-0 win at Parma in the Coppa Italia, head to Udinese having not lost in the league in three months. Furthermore, Juve have won the past six encounters between the two teams and have not suffered defeat at Udinese since April 2010. If Andrea Stramaccioni's side are to spring a surprise they will need to return to the form that saw them win four of their opening five home league matches this term. Their last victory at the Stadio Comunale Friuli came in October, but a battling 2-1 win at Empoli last week saw them climb into the top 10. OPTA FACTS Udinese and Juventus have met 81 times so far in Serie A: the Old Lady leads by 51 wins to 11. Juve have had the better of Udinese in their last six league games, keeping a clean sheet in four of those. Udinese’s last home win against Juve in Serie A was in April 2010 (3-0). Udinese have taken only one point from their last four home meetings against Juventus. Udinese’s last home win in the league was back in October against Atalanta (2-0) – since then, there have been three losses a nd two draws for them. Juventus are unbeaten in their last five away games in Serie A (W4 D1). Udinese have faced the most shots (321), Juve have the fewest (179) in Serie A. 18. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Pirlo: ‘Seven points are nothing’ Jan 30, 2015 Juventus' Andrea Pirlo warns that ‘seven points are nothing’ over Scudetto rivals Roma and warns against losing focus. The Bianconeri extended their lead at the top of the Serie A standings to this advantage last weekend after the Giallorossi drew 1-1 against Fiorentina last Sunday, but the World Champion sees no reason to lay back. “A seven-point lead is nothing, Roma are strong and they will be a tough nut to crack,” said Pirlo in an interview with JTV. The maestro also spoke of the upcoming game against Udinese this Sunday. “Udine is a tough place to go. They are emerging from a good result against Empoli that took them away from the danger zone in the standings, so they can play without tension. “We, on the other hand, have to win, if we are to keep Roma at a distance. “The game that symbolises 2014, for me, was the Europa League's Fiorentina-Juventus [March 20], in which I scored. That was a beautiful game.” The playmaker was asked about his particular ability to concentrate. “I have the personality of someone who doesn't need to spend days before the game looking for concentration. “I can joke and chat, but it's enough for me to get into the pitch and hear the fans to find my focus. “You must always have a will to look for new victories, to play and have fun. The mind, for a player, is the main thing.” The 35-year-old also found the time for a comment on the upcoming Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund. “Against Borussia the first match will be fundamental, a good result would allow us to play the return leg with greater strength.” http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  19. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Quick start can help Juventus crack well-disciplined Udinese Jan 30, 2015 With the end of the transfer window approaching, Juventus are working on finding solutions in certain areas as well as investing in bright young starlets. The latest news surrounds the possible arrival of Pablo Osvaldo, who has rejected several proposals in hopes he either ends up at Milan or Juventus. According to certain media outlets, the forward was spotted in Turin and could well be a new addition to the front line. Meanwhile, former youth product Paolo De Ceglie has found his way back home to Juventus to give the squad even more options in defence. During his time with Parma, De Ceglie demonstrated his flexibility, playing in four different positions, including in the middle in attack. A defensive player by nature, he has shown his ability to contribute offensively and will prove useful to coach Massimiliano Allegri going forward. Another player reportedly purchased is Andres Tello, the Colombian winger dubbed "the next Cuadrado," according to Italian media. However, for many, the player is nothing like the Fiorentina maestro and isn't even a winger. Tello is instead a central midfielder who is the more defensive mid in a 4-2-3-1 formation, although he is seen as capable on the ball. Apparently, no one in Italy has quite figured out how Tello actually operates, but he is touted to be a useful player and a teenage sensation who will mature into a great if allowed the time. Yet while Juventus continue to scout the next generation of players, Allegri is weighing up his options with regards to the line-up he will deploy against Udinese on Sunday afternoon. With Arturo Vidal injured and Claudio Marchisio suspended, it's thought that the coach will turn to the 3-5-2 formation to ensure defensive safety and maintain strength against Andrea Stramaccioni's men. Yet one hopes he will continue to persist with the 4-3-3 shape he has experimented with in the Coppa Italia games with Kingsley Coman played upfront and Simone Padoin in midfield. Udinese have never been an easy opponent for the Bianconeri, with the Old Lady often managing slender wins against a side that boasts defensive organisation. However, this is a team that relies upon the efficiency of the collective, as opposed to the talent of any one star and if they are not in complete understanding, they will suffer. The beauty of Stramaccioni and the sides he guides is their unpredictability. A man who enjoys scouting the opposition, he excels in uncovering his opponents' flaws and then works on constructing a side capable of exploiting the weaknesses to secure positive results. As such, there are no specific tactics, no set moves or clear identity. Stramaccioni is the king of flexibility and often changes his formations and ideas depending on the opponent and the personnel he has available. This season we have seen Udinese play five different formations. They have tried a flat back four, a narrow style of play dependent on a playmaker and three-man defence. With each match, that has helped add to their experience. Sadly for the club, the results have proved disappointing, especially in recent weeks with Stramaccioni struggling to find the wins. The problem with Udinese, is that they often require time to study the opponent on the pitch and can be caught out in the early stages of a match as they come to grips with the game. That was seen against Inter, Roma and Sampdoria, with the latter doing an excellent job to score quickly. However, once they are settled and aware of their opponents' patterns, they begin to play an effective game, piling on the pressure and proving tough to beat until the final moments of the game. Yet it's important to point out that unless they work in unison, as a collective, they cannot be effective. Organisation and synchronised pressing is the key to their success. Interestingly, this is a side that understands the art of scoring and efficiency in front of goal. They rarely attempt a shot on goal. In fact, statistically, only Parma and Cesena strike less, yet when they do, they usually score, managing 22 goals from open play. Only four teams, including Juve have scored more goals than the Zebrette from open play. Unfortunately for Stramaccioni, the team will be without some of their best players, which puts them in a difficult situation. Panagiotis Kone is suspended, Maurizio Domizzi is injured and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu is away on African Nations' Cup duty. Nonetheless, this will still be a difficult game to navigate, especially since Juventus will be without their two best midfielders. Another victory and life will be made that much harder for second-place Roma. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  20. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Preview: Udinese vs. Juventus Jan 30, 2015 Serie A leaders Juventus travel to Udinese on Sunday looking to extend their unbeaten record in the league to 12 games. The Vecchia Signora have won 27 points during the same period to heap the pressure on nearest challengers Roma, and with their rivals slipping up in recent weeks, the gap at the top now stands at seven points. Boss Massimiliano Allegri made eight changes for the midweek win over Parma in the Coppa Italia, but he is expected to revert back to the team that registered a comfortable success over Chievo last weekend. Striker Alvaro Morata should keep his place ahead of Fernando Llorente after netting the winner in the cup on Wednesday. Udinese host the form side in the league having recorded their first victory in seven games in all competitions last weekend. The 2-1 success away at Empoli was a welcome boost to a club who have struggled to put points or clean sheets together since the end of October, with that run seeing them drop down to ninth in the standings. Midfielder Panagiotis Kone is suspended for the contest after being sent off last week, so Bruno Fernandes could earn a start in his place. 21. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Udinese vs. Juventus: Issues and Decisions That Will Shape Serie a Game Jan 30, 2015 Juventus excelled in January. Indeed, in their four Serie A fixtures in the first month of the year, the reigning Italian champions only dropped points in their draw with Internazionale. Take their two cup victories into account, and the Bianconeri have outscored opponents by a staggering 16 goals to three in their six matches so far this year. The latest of these saw a heavily rotated team edge past Parma in Wednesday’s Coppa Italia quarter-final. Boss Massimiliano Allegri has managed the squad superbly, despite numerous injuries. The Juventus coach has done well to give rest to some of the star names at his disposal, and that could prove hugely beneficial down the line. However, Allegri faces fresh concerns coming into Sunday’s game, with Arturo Vidal set to miss the contest and Claudio Marchisio suspended due to his accumulation of yellow cards. It was announced on Thursday via the club’s official website that the Chilean was “suffering a sprained right knee.” However, a scan “ruled out any serious damage.” In any case, those two key absences in midfield will give the Juve boss plenty to consider as he prepares to face an Udinese team who sit in eighth place. Already 22 points behind the Bianconeri, Andrea Stramaccioni has overseen just one win in his side’s last seven games, and they face a difficult run of fixtures in February. Following Juve’s visit to the Stadio Friuli, Udinese take on Napoli away and then Lazio at home in a challenging period for the former Inter coach. Over the following pages is a look at the issues and decisions that are likely to decide Sunday’s result, looking at what it will take for Juventus to emerge with another victory as they seek a fourth successive league title. Marshalling Antonio Di Natale While reducing any side to just one player is difficult, that is becoming increasingly the case for Udinese with Antonio Di Natale. The 37-year-old has netted nine times in 2014-15, adding two assists. The team have struggled to find goals elsewhere, with only eight teams in Serie A scoring fewer times. After a poor run of form, Juventus have registered three consecutive clean sheets, the defence returning to the dominant force it was earlier in the campaign. They will need to be at their best to contain Di Natale, but doing so is well within their capabilities. Selection Dilemma in Juventus Midfield Obviously the loss of Marchisio and Vidal presents a dilemma for Allegri, with Kwadwo Asamoah’s continued absence compounding the issue. The Ghanaian has yet to return to the side following surgery late last year, and Luca Marrone’s loan switch to Cordoba further reduces the options available. The coach will still be able to call upon Andrea Pirlo and Paul Pogba, but if he were to continue with his 4-3-2-1 formation, he would need two more players to fill the midfield roles. Roberto Pereyra has proven to be an able deputy, while Simone Padoin and Simone Pepe are also worth consideration. Allegri may opt to switch back to a back three as a temporary measure, with the solidity of that framework tried and tested over the last three years. Can Udinese Stop Paul Pogba? Despite the selection problem facing Allegri and Juventus in midfield, it is still the area of the pitch where the Bianconeri are most likely to cause problems for Udinese. Paul Pogba will be central to that, clearly hitting a rich vein of form by scoring in each of his last four starts for the club. Searching for Goals in Attack While Juve’s recent record has been quite prolific, the continued struggles of Fernando Llorente have become cause for concern in Turin. The Spanish striker has scored just once since November, and his issues were discussed at length in this column earlier in the week. Carlos Tevez—who scored one goal and created the other when these sides met in September—continues to shoulder the burden in attack, and Juventus need to get their other front men firing before the Champions League recommences later this month. http://www.goal.com/en/results-standings/69/italy-serie-a/table?ICID=SP_TN_111
  22. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni Udinese V Juventus – Preview: Old Lady Hot Favourite In Battle Of The Bianconeri Jan 30, 2015 Mid-table Udinese take on league leaders Juventus in an intriguing Serie A fixture on Sunday at the Stadio Fruili. The hosts will hope to fare much better than in the duo’s last two meetings in Udine, when Juventus have swept Udinese aside 2-0 last season and 4-1 during the previous campaign. Ominously, the Zebrette have only managed three victories from their last 19 Serie A home matches with the reigning champions. Udinese claimed a first win in six when defeating Empoli 2-1 away in league action last time out, while the visiting table-toppers have lost just once all season and triumphed handsomely on their last three outings. Indeed, Juve plundered nine goals while conceding just once throughout their three most recent contests with Napoli, Hellas Verona and Chievo. Greek star Panagiotis Kone is missing for the home team due to a three-match suspension, after his club decided not to appeal the decision following his dismissal and subsequent improper conduct charge relating to the laying of hands on the referee at Empoli. Coach Andrea Stramaccioni is also unable to call upon Emmanuel Badu and Molla Wague after both went away on international duty to the African Cup of Nations, while youngsters Lucas Evangelista and Alexis Zapata won’t be available. Additionally, trio Giampiero Pinzi, Alexandre Geijo and Maurizio Domizzi will have their fitness evaluated in the run-up to the game. Juventus travel without Claudio Marchisio, who is serving a one-game ban, plus key man Arturo Vidal, Kwadwo Asamoah and Romulo through injury. Experienced left-back Patrice Evra is a slight doubt, but should be fit to take his place in the side. Spanish striker Alvaro Morata will be pushing hard for a starting spot having scored the late winner over Parma in a midweek Coppa Italia quarter-final clash. Man-of-the-moment Paul Pogba is also expected to feature, despite the media frenzy surrounding his immediate future with the club. 23. UDINESE - JUVENTUS .- Sunday, February 1st, 2015 - 3:00 PM Friuli Stadium, Udine Referee: Andrea Gervasoni UDINESE V JUVENTUS MATCH PREVIEW Jan 29, 2015 Juventus The game versus Parma in the Coppa Italia was close. Luckily, the babyfaced assassin Alvaro Morata scored a last minute winner to advance Juventus. More importantly, the team was spared a taxing extra time period. This is good, as Juventus have more important competitions to deal with than the Coppa Italia. For example, Serie A. Luckily Max Allegri is a good coach and he rotated plenty of the starters out for the Parma game. Unfortunately, Arturo Vidal will probably miss this game due to the knock he suffered on his knee. But, everybody else – barring the long term injuries – is available. That said, don’t expect to see the 4-3-3 that struggled versus Parma. Gianluigi Buffon will celebrate a belated birthday with the start in goal. Meanwhile, Martin Caceres should start at right back. Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini should start at centerback. And Patrice Evra is of course expected to start at left back. In midfield, there are two notable absences: the aforementioned Chilean, and Claudio Marchisio, who is suspended for the match. Roberto Pereyra and Simone Padoin are to start in midfield, with Pereyra liking playing in the attacking mid role. Perhaps Pogba could play there. Obviously, neither Andrea Pirlo nor Simone Padoin will. Though that would be mildly humorous. Finally, the classic duo of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente should start up top. Llorente played the full match versus Parma, but that was his first game since the Napoli match two weeks ago. For what it’s worth, he had an assist in both games. Still, Llorente has not been as strong as he was in his debut season with Juve, so perhaps he can turn that around in the second half of the domestic campaign. Predicted Lineup 4-3-1-2 : Buffon; Caceres, Bonucci, Chiellini, Evra; Pirlo, Padoin, Pogba, Pereyra, Tevez, Llorente Injuries Kwadwo Asamoah and Romulo (Both undergone knee surgery), Arturo Vidal (Bruised knee) Suspended Claudio Marchisio Udinese Udinese have been pretty inconsistent in this season: they got off to a brilliant start, then slumped a little. They are in 9th position with 27 points. They have a solid squad, but they need to raise the level of their performances if they want to have a chance of being sucessful in the Europa League race, considering that Inter, Milan and Fiorentina are also involved. Andrea Stramaccioni has displayed glimpses of acumen, but also stuttered due to some rookie mistakes. In some matches, the team didn’t seem to have the right game plan or to be up to the task. All in all, he’s doing a far better job than last year’s Francesco Guidolin, whose fire and grip on the team was gradually fading, but he hasn’t done enough to bring the club to the next level. He could be the right man in the future, but the jury is still out. His choices are extremely limited for this match: Panagiotis Kone is suspended, Maurizio Domizzi is out with an ankle sprain, Alex Geijo has a bummed thigh, Emmanuel Badu and Molla Wague are participating to AFCON 2015, Lucas Evangelista and Alexis Zapata are partaking to the South American Youth Football Championship. He has used 3-5-1-1 recently and all indications point to that: even if he’s been reluctant to do it, he’ll be forced to field Bruno Fernandes (brilliant youngster, but he’s a liability defensively) in the midfield, as Giampiero Pinzi is nursing a calf issue (he should make the squad list, but he’s unlikely to play). The right-back turned intro centre-back Ivan Piris will complete the three-man defense composed by Danilo and Thomas Heurtaux (all three haven’t been immune to blunders). The stout Allan and Guilherme will take care of the defensive tasks in the middle, while Silvan Widmer and Gabriel Silva (or Giovanni Pasquale) will be the wing-backs. Udinese rely heavily on the flanks, especially on the up-and-coming Widmer, but of course the biggest threats are the two strikers Cyril Thereau, a creative CAM/second striker despite being 1.89 cm tall who has already scored seven goals so far, and Antonio Di Natale, nine goals and still one of the best open field playmakers. Like in the Guidolin era, the counter-attacking game remains their forte. At home, they have a record of four wins, three draws and three losses. They haven’t been particularly sharp in big matches: they have lost against Fiorentina (3-0), Milan (2-0), Roma (0-1), while they have beaten Lazio early in the season and Inter. In the first match, Juventus took care of business at home (2-0), thanks to early goal by Tevez and with Marchisio closing the deal late, in a game where Stramaccioni’s squad were pushed around and didn’t pose many threats to Buffon’s goal. Predicted Lineup 3-5-1-1 : Karnezis; Piris, Danilo, Heurtaux; Widmer Allan, Guilherme, Fernandes, Pasquale; Thereau; Di Natale Injuries Maurizio Domizzi (Ankle sprain) Alex Geijo (Thigh) Unavailable Emmanuel Badu and Molla Wague are participating in the AFCON 2015 Lucas Evangelista and Alexis Zapata are partaking to the South American Youth Football Championship.
