  1. 'The referee ruined the game' - Prandelli blasts Marchisio red card after Italy exit The midfielder was given his marching orders for a high tackle on Egidio Arevalo Rios in the second half, with Uruguay going on to knock the Azzurri out of the World Cup. Jun 24, 2014 Cesare Prendelli believes referee Marco Rodriguez "ruined" Italy's World Cup crunch clash with Uruguay by showing a straight red card to Claudio Marchisio in the second half. Marchisio was sent off on 59 minutes after catching Egidio Arevalo Rios just below the knee with his studs, and the 10-man Azzurri went on to lose the match 1-0 to an 81st-minute Diego Godin header. The result sees Italy crash out at the group stage for the second successive World Cup, and after the match Prandelli laid the blame for the defeat at the feet of Rodriguez rather than Marchisio. "It didn't seem like a red card offence," he told Sky Sport Italia. "There were some tough tackles, but not worthy of a red card. It was a very balanced game, Uruguay never really had a shot on goal despite needing to win. "It was a good match tactically and in my view the referee ruined it. He cannot give a red card in that situation, he just can't. "We got the game with Costa Rica wrong and fought hard with Uruguay against two of the best strikers in the world, though they never caused us problems. "It's a great shame that we go out in these circumstances."

  4. Buffon: 'Unite for Italy!' Jun 24, 2014 Gigi Buffon sent a message to fans ahead of Italy’s crunch World Cup match with Uruguay. “Leave divisions aside.” The Azzurri need at least a point to go through into the Round of 16, while La Celeste can only qualify with a victory. “A strong and cohesive cheer has to arrive from Italy, leaving aside the divisions that exist during the season so we can UNITE all together under the tricolore flag,” wrote Buffon on his Twitter account. “We are there fighting on the field, you are there cheering in the stadium or in front of the television, all united for the same colours, united by our passion and united for our Italy!”
  5. Llorente: I’m staying at Juventus The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League after just one season at the club, but insists his future remains in Turin. Jun 24, 2014 Juventus striker Fernando Llorente has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from the club. The Spain striker, who joined from Athletic Bilbao last summer on a free transfer, recovered from a difficult start in Italy to hit 16 goals in 34 Serie A appearances as Juve won a third straight Serie A title. But despite rumours the Old Lady are ready to offload the 29-year-old, who was left out of Vicente Del Bosque’s World Cup squad, Llorente says he is not considering a move away from Turin. “My future? It is with Juventus and I feel very happy here,” he told Sky Italia. “I have had a quiet break. I'm glad to be here and I’m not thinking of anything else.” Llorente has three years to run on his current contract but has been linked with a move to the Premier League as Juve continue their pursuit of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez.
