To what extent Antonio Conte would go to shuffling the deck we didn't exactly know, but the reality was that it was going to be a different lineup than the one we saw n Denmark. http://markting10.nl/ We got our answer to the simple question and Conte kept his word because he's a good man. Simple analysis to the simple question: I'd say it worked out pretty well. Goals from Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente (!!) were the difference in a 2-1 win over Serie A newbies Hellas Verona on Sunday at Juventus Stadium. It was the first chance we got to see the 1-2 punch that Juve brought in during the summer transfer window we've been waiting all summer to see — well, unless you were at AT&T Park on the final day of July like yours truly — and it didn't disappoint at all. It was the perfect response to what was another wonderful episode of "Watch Juventus Not Defend a Set Piece" on the game's opening goal by Hellas Verona. Juventus were always going to dominate possession because of how many players Verona were putting behind the ball. It was just a matter of putting away the opportunities that came their way for Antonio Conte's side. While the finishing was far from perfect, there was no goalkeeping masterclass like there was against FC Copenhagen to drive us all up the wall. And the ability to get the 2-1 lead right before the half was the way to grab the momentum right by the neck was exactly what the doctor ordered. It was only fitting that Tevez and Llorente, two of Juventus' best players on the day, were the ones who got the goals. Conte: Tevez is an example to everyone, Llorente also did well today and there’s more to come from him. This goal will give him confidence. Yep. Random thoughts and observations •Let's talk Fernando Llorente. Why? Because after getting a goal in your first Juventus start and having it be the difference on the scoreboard, you deserve to be talked about. It was almost poetic justice that Llorente scored a goal after all the talk during the course of the past week. "Will he or won't he play?" "Well, why isn't he playing?" "Is he actually regretting his decision to come to Juve?" All that nonsense went right out the door the moment Llorente put his head on Arturo Vidal's cross and it found the back of the net. He obviously needs to still work himself into top game shape because of the circumstances we're all aware of, but this was something he can build off of, something that will definitely take a lot of pressure off his shoulders and get some confidence going. @llorentefer19: I normally take a bit of time to hit form and knew I had to work hard, having spent almost a year out of action. You were saying, Tuttosport? •Let's talk about Carlos Tevez. Why? Because he was awesome yet again. I've seen it said here and on the Twitter machine before, but it bears repeating: Tevez wasn't the best overall striker on the market this summer, but he certainly was the perfect one for Juventus and Antonio Conte's system. And that price looks more and more like a bargain with every game that passes. •The game Mauricio Isla had reminded me of his days at Udinese. He made his presence felt down the right flank and was nowhere close to, in a good kind of way, the player he was a year ago. You can tell he's much healthier and that the knee is feeling pretty good these days. That extra bit of pace is back. •Marco Storari stole a game check. •How good were Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli today? Yeah, pretty darn good. Angelo Ogbonna was pretty solid, too — and that's definitely a good sign after his first couple of official appearances in a Juventus shirt looked a little shaky to say the least. •Not Mirko Vucinic's best games off the bench. It started with his first touch being a turnover and never improved. On a day where Llorente scores his first Juventus goal, Vucinic was about as useful as Marco Motta. •When was the last time, if any, Juventus absolutely dominated back-to-back matches with Andrea Pirlo on the field and doing absolutely nothing? You won't need a second hand to count the amount of times, I can tell you that much. •Kwadwo Asamoah's yellow card was a Mauro Bergonzi Special. The match could've ended then, as we really learned nothing from the second 45 minutes. Sep 22, 2013 It took awhile for things to get rolling in the first half. Juventus had the majority of the possession and a ridiculous amount of shots, but it took until almost the break for one to land in the back of the net. In fact, it took an opening goal from Verona to convince the visitors that they needed to simmer down and send their shots on target. http://markting10.nl/ Hellas scored in the 36th minute, catching Juventus napping. The corner kick was whipped into the area, Vangelis Moras got his head on it, knocking it on to Fabrizio Cacciatore, who, for some unfathomable reason, was lurking unmarked by the post. It took a simple tap to knock the ball past Marco Storari. Juve almost instantly responded, but a brilliant goalline clearance from Verona kept out Paul Pogba's shot. But the equalizer came almost immediately, through a lovely goal from Carlos Tévez. The forward latched on to a through ball from Leonardo Bonucci, took the ball away from goal, turned, and launched his shot into the top of the net. Rafael had no chance. The goalkeeper was still reeling from the goal when Tévez tried again. This time, the ball hit the inside of the post, ricocheted off, hit the other post, and fell into Rafael's arms. The Verona keeper curled into the fetal position, hugging the ball and whimpering. His relief was palpable, but wiped away just before the halftime whistle. The go-ahead goal came from Fernando Llorente, scoring his first in a bianconeri kit. The cross came in from Arturo Vidal, Llorente headed it on, and Juventus went into the break feeling pretty good about themselves. While Juventus continued to threaten throughout the second half, Verona did little to make things challenging for the Old Lady. It was as though the fight had gone out of the home side with Llorente's goal, and they were content to sit back and simply keep the scoreline respectable. Andrea Mandorlini tried to liven things up with the introduction of on-loan attacker Juan Iturbe, but the little guy failed to make a big impression. The might be a team tapped to impress in Europe, but Juventus failed to impress against Copenhagen midweek, and a lack of a clinical approach in the second half shows this team still has some kinks to iron out. But the bianconeri came away with all three points, so any questions will likely be put on hold. However, against the run of play Verona took the lead. Cacciatore tapped in from close range at the back post after a corner was headed on by Moras. Then, just moments later a Tevez shot smacked the post before rolling across the goal line and hit the other upright before landing in Rafael’s arms, much to the goalkeeper’s relief. On the stroke of half time, Llorente got his first for his new club, heading home a Vidal cross. The second period started in the same manner at the first, with Juve dominating the match and pinning the Mastini into their own half, Tevez once more the instigator for the home side. Paul Pogba almost added to the Bianconeri’s lead with a fantastic strike from the edge of the area, but it struck the crossbar with Rafael rooted to the spot. As the second period wore on Juve were content to hang onto the ball, as Verona looked out of ideas on the rare occasions they did receive the ball. Claudio Marchisio then thought he had a goal on his return from injury, but the referee blew for a foul as the corner was floated in. Then moments later Mauricio Isla should have made it three. The Chilean ran onto a ball over the top, but his half-volley could only find the side netting. Poor finishing continued to dog Juve with Mirko Vucinic twisting and turning his way through a crowd of Verona defenders, but was unable to apply the finish, then Pogba once more with a long range effort straight at Rafael. It was only a warning, as moments afterwards Tevez sprung the offside trap on a Leo Bonucci through ball and smashed his finish across Rafael in off the far post. Tevez could not believe he hadn’t scored another in first half stoppages. His shot flew past Rafael to hit the upright, roll all the way along the line, bounce off the other post and into the goalkeeper’s grateful arms. Between that slip and amid the constant talk about Fernando Llorente being ignored by Antonio Conte, it hasn't been the easiest few days for Juve -- but that's hardly going to destabilize the champions. They have a relatively easy job this weekend against Hellas Verona, who, with all due respect, aren't a team that should create a lot of problems for the bianconeri. http://markting10.nl/ Juve have seven points from three Serie A matches, beating Sampdoria away 1-0 before thrashing Lazio at home 4-1. Their only draw came in the last round, against Inter Milan in the Derby d'Italia. The bianconeri have started the season more or less as expected. Buying Carlos Tevez proved to be a very good piece of business, and Paul Pogba is showing more and more moments of brilliance. A small issue is the fact that Conte prefers every other striker to Llorente, who appears to be completely out of shape but that seems to be more of an issue for various papers in Italy, rather than for Conte himself. Of greater importance is the fact that Andrea Pirlo isn't his usual magnificent self this season. Conte is likely to field almost the same team as he did in most of the games this season, with Mirko Vucinic keeping Tevez company in the attack. Verona are likely thrilled with their season so far, having won two games, one of which against a direct rival in the relegation battle, Sassuolo. The other victory was a 2-1 win over AC Milan in the first round, played in front of a thrilled Verona crowd. Their only loss came against an in-form Roma, who put three goals past the newcomers. The gialloblu seem to have enough quality to stay away from relegation zone this season, but getting at least a point at the Juventus Stadium isn't easy, even for the best European teams. These were two teams that fought endlessly and produced a fair result. Against Copenhagen, it was one way traffic, for the most part. With depth that can justify rotation, Juventus could name a starting eleven that may see a few regulars rested. Storari will start in goal, Conte confirmed while Vucinic and Barzagli should return after they played no part in the Champions League. But the best news from Conte’s press conference was the return of Claudio Marchisio. The tireless midfielder has been out for a few weeks and has always been one of Juventus’ most valuable assets. With Verona expected to shut shop, Juventus could find themselves in a situation similar to that against Copenhagen. This time, of course, they’ll want to be a bit more clinical and make their chances count. Pepe, Rubinho and Caceres will sit this one out for Juventus.
