The main point that has been underlined is that those clubs and individuals who were punished during the original trial cannot have their sentences quashed by the new trial if it does take place. Meanwhile, lawyer Piero Sandulli, who presided over the original sporting trial in 2006 claims Inter would have also been punished had this new evidence been discovered then. "With these new recordings we would have also punished Inter back then," Sandulli told Tuttosport. "I don't think other sentences would have changed, but we would have had other subjects at the table." Sandulli was president of the federal court at the time of the 2006 trial in which the original hearings into the sporting trial took place.
