  1. Vlahovic is top-scorer in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024 Despite Juventus’ recent struggles, it may come as a surprise to learn that Dusan Vlahovic is the leading scorer in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024. The Serbian striker, who was signed by Juventus from Fiorentina, is now showcasing his talent and justifying the investment made in him. Over the past few weeks, Vlahovic has been in remarkable form, scoring seven goals in six games in 2024. .............. Vlahovic’s statistics make him the top scorer in Europe’s top five leagues since the start of the year, solidifying his position as one of the hottest strikers in the world. .............. 2. Danilo to miss at least two weeks after suffering sprained ankle vs. Verona Juve’s captain is now at risk of missing some big March fixtures. When Danilo crashed back down to the Bentegodi turf after going up for a header in the second half of Saturday night’s 2-2 draw with Hellas Verona and his landing looked anything but graceful, you knew something was up. Of course, seeing the Brazilian defender quickly crumble to the ground was a pretty good hint, but the simple fact that it was not a soft landing gave you the hint that he would have to grit things out the rest of the way. While Juve received some good news in terms of things potentially being worse, they’re now looking at another period of time where their captain is out injured. Juventus announced Sunday that Danilo underwent tests at J Medical on his injured left ankle that was clearly not right in the final minutes of the draw with Hellas Verona. The club has ruled out “ligament damage and any fractures” for Danilo, but suffering a sprained ankle will mean that he is certainly going to miss Juventus’ final game of February against Frosinone next weekend and could very well the game or two after that against Napoli and Atalanta. .............. Daniele Rugani and Alex Sandro are the only options to come into the starting XI against Frosinone and potentially Napoli. Considering that Frosinone have a winger on the right named Matias Soulé, one would think Allegri would go with the better defensive option in Rugani rather than somebody like Sandro, who is probably going to be more involved with the attack and making runs forward. (Plus, there’s the whole part where Sandro has not been very good at all in much of his appearances this season, but Allegri does love him some experience on the field.) 3. Juventus evaluating Allegri’s future: Thiago Motta the first name on Giuntoli’s shortlist Juventus have reportedly placed Thiago Motta as the first name on the shortlist in case they part ways with Max Allegri. The latter still has a contract running until June 2025. However, it is widely believed that the manager isn’t planning to enter the final year of his contract. He will either renew his deal or vacate his post at the end of the current campaign. While the renewal theory was gaining steam in previous months, the club’s recent slump could knock the 56-year-old off his perch. ............. The management will now evaluate the future of the Livorno native. Therefore, the two parties could decide to split at the end of the current campaign. As the source tells it, Thiago Motta remains on top of the list of possible replacements. The latter is enjoying a superb campaign at Bologna who are currently fifth in the Serie A table. Juventus Football Director Cristiano Giuntoli had reportedly tried to appoint the Italo-Brazilian during his days as Napoli sporting director. ............. Moreover, the source names Antonio Conte as another possible candidate for the role. The former Juventus captain and manager has been out of work since leaving Tottenham Hotspur last season. ............. 4. Italian media hand player ratings for Juventus: Gatti the worst vs Verona On Saturday evening, Juventus extended their terrible abysmal run to four matches in a row with a 2-2 draw away to Hellas Verona. ............. In the ratings of the mainstream Italian news outlets, none of the Juventus players earned a high rating. Almost everyone received mediocre grades between 5 and 6/10. Nevertheless, Federico Gatti earned the worst grades overall. ............. 5. Juventus provide medical updates on Danilo – Estimated recovery time revealed The official Juventus website has released a statement providing updates on the condition of club captain Danilo. The 32-year-old sustained an ankle knock during yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Hellas Verona. Nevertheless, he was forced to remain on the pitch as Max Allegri had run out of substitutions at that point. .............. “Following the injury sustained against Hellas Verona on Saturday, February 17, Danilo underwent medical tests at J|Medical on Sunday morning,” reads the official note. “The tests ruled out ligament damage and any fractures to his left ankle, and the player has begun the rehabilitation process. He will continue to be evaluated day by day.” .............. Danilo will be out of action between 10 to 15 days. .............. 6. Another blow for Juventus as Danilo suffers a knock against Verona – Napoli trip at risk The problems are piling up for Juventus as club captain Danilo risks missing out on the action after sustaining a knock. The Brazilian had skipped last weekend’s defeat at the hands of Udinese due to a suspension, before making his return against Hellas Verona. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a prosperous comeback for the 32-year-old, as the team had to settle for a disappointing 2-2 draw, thus extending their winless streak to four matches. Moreover, Danilo suffered a knock when he fell to the ground late in the match. .............. Danilo appears to have sprained his ankle. .............. The defender genuinely risks missing out on Juve’s upcoming clash against Frosinone next Sunday. Moreover, the skipper could also skip the away clash against Napoli on March 4th. This will be a true blow for Allegri who hasn’t been able to rely on his two best defenders (Danilo and Gleison Bremer) together on the pitch in the last two matches due to consecutive suspensions. .............. 7. “We don’t exploit” Allegri laments Juventus draw against Verona Max Allegri openly acknowledges that Juventus has undone much of the positive work achieved at the start of the Serie A season, particularly after their 2-2 draw against Hellas Verona this evening. Entering the game to rejuvenate their season following a three-game winless streak, Juventus faced a formidable Verona side equally determined to secure a victory for their battle against relegation. ............. After the game, Allegri said: “In this phase we are long, we don’t exploit situations in the open field and we allow several counterattacks. Even against Udinese, we had five chances and we didn’t score a goal. In football, you take a long time to build and a little to destroy, now we have had two draws in four games.” ............. 8. Juventus 2 - Hellas Verona 2: Initial reaction and random observations Another weekend in February in which dropped points are the overarching theme of the day. Heading into the final weekend of January, I sat here and wrote about how Juventus had enjoyed quite the pleasantly surprising runs that we’ve seen from them of Max Allegri’s second stint in charge. They were winning, they were scoring goals galore and they were racking up shutouts and they were putting serious heat on league leaders Inter Milan so much that they were spending a short time actually atop the table. All of three weeks and four games later, Juve haven’t just fallen out of the Scudetto race and essentially handed the title to Inter, but come crashing back down to earth in the kind of fashion that you really have no idea where this team is going all of the sudden. The latest confirmation of that came Saturday evening at the Bentegodi in Verona, as Juve had to fight back twice from being a goal down to get a point against Hellas Verona in a 2-2 draw. Sure, they scored their first two goals in the month of February, but it was another stark reminder that things are not right and that struggling against another relegation battler means that Juventus’ season has gone from Scudetto push to simply trying to hold on for dear life as the distance between where they are and those outside of the top four suddenly becomes smaller and smaller. ............. That’s all of two points collected in four games. Three of those opponents are ones that are actively trying to avoid getting relegated to Serie B a few months from now. And yet, they didn’t beat any of them. Not a single one. That’s something they avoided from taking place for much of the first half of the 2023-24 season, but as great as the first four weeks of the new year was, the same can’t be said about this second month of 2024. It’s tiresome. It’s been tiresome. It’s only getting more tiresome as we watch Juventus’ advantage over Milan in third place shrinking to the slimmest of margins and run the risk of fully going away 24 hours from now. These types of results happened under multiple managers, but only exaggerated under Allegri for the simple notion that he was supposed to be the agent that made things better when compared to a rookie manager like Andrea Pirlo. Instead, we’ve seen uninspiring performances and dropped points galore, with this current four-game run featuring three relegation battlers on the schedule and no wins recorded. That is where Juventus are at right now. They have crashed so hard and so quickly that they are now struggling to even get a point against teams that are either in the relegation zone or just outside of it. ............. Juve had 18 shots and put all of four of them on target, with one of those being Dusan Vlahovic’s PK to tie things up a half hour in. Nearly half of those shots were blocked. Another six of those were off target. Against one of the worst defenses in Serie A, Juve barely challenged Montipo in goal. That’s not going to cut it against a relegation battler or a contender for the top four. And the same old problems of years prior are now coming back into the spotlight because they’re dropping points in four straight games. January was fun, man. February is the complete opposite. RANDOM THOUGHTS AND OBSERVATIONS What are the odds Milan beat Monza and Juve’s in third place at the end of the weekend? I feel like it’s a pretty good chance of happening ............. Juventus, statistically, has one of the best defenses in the league. On Saturday, they allowed Hellas Verona to record one of their highest shot attempted totals this entire season. I get that Juve’s defense was without their best player because Bremer was suspended, but you just can’t let that happen. It’s almost a little surprising with how this game was played and how Juve’s defense was stretched that it finished at 2-2. Going off that, Wojciech Szczesny made a season-high seven saves against Hellas Verona. I get that a lot of them weren’t exactly tough saves and a lot of those shots were right at him, but the simple fact that Szczesny was called into action so many times is the worrying part. ............. Chiesa constantly missing scoring chances that we all know he would bury if he was in better form makes me sad. This is not the Chiesa we know. Bring me back the Fred Church we all know and love. Juve need him so bad. Juve finished with an xG of 1.68. Nearly half of that total was on Vlahovic’s PK. Not great, folks! Adrien Rabiot with one of those classic showings where he was having a complete stinker and then he pops up and scores a goal. I was seriously texting a Juve friend about how bad he was playing right before Manuel Locatelli jumped on the loose ball and sent in the cross to Rabiot. Sometimes, these things just work out like that. Kenan Yildiz had some good moments against Hellas Verona. He also had some not so great moments. Kinda what you expect from an 18-year-old kid who’s still getting his footing as a player who is being relied on as one of the few creative outlets on this team. He’ll get there because of his talent level, but there’s going to be some obvious growing pains along the way. We got the chance to see Chiesa, Vlahovic and Yildiz all on the field together! It lasted all of about eight minutes. Hope you enjoyed it! ............. This team is clearly not mentally there right now. That Empoli draw was the major blow and the subsequent games after that were more body shots that they couldn’t afford to take. It was nice for Carlos Alcaraz to get some good minutes in a game in which Juve’s midfield was struggling to create much. He had some nice combination and passes in the final third, most notably with Chiesa down the left channel. Consider me intrigued, Charly. ............. 9. Juventus slump continues at Verona as Bianconeri fail to win again Juventus dropped two more points in Serie A this evening during their visit to Hellas Verona, effectively putting an end to their aspirations of winning the league. Max Allegri’s team was anticipated to start the game with intensity, intending to secure nothing less than a victory. However, it was Verona who surprised the Bianconeri by taking the lead just 11 minutes into the match. With Juventus aiming to stay in the title race and Verona striving to maintain their top-flight status, both teams had the desire to secure a win. Despite equalising through a penalty after 28 minutes, Juve’s situation didn’t change significantly, as Verona remained resolute in their efforts to challenge the black and whites. ............. Despite fans’ hopes for Juventus to build on this and secure the next goal, even the introduction of Federico Chiesa and Carlos Alcaraz couldn’t secure a winning goal for Juve. As a result, the Bianconeri will return to Turin with just a point. With Juventus now out of the title race, there’s a possibility of being overtaken by AC Milan if they win their upcoming game. 12. Pundit tips Thiago Motta to thrive as next Juventus manager Juventus is reportedly considering Thiago Motta as a potential candidate for their next manager amid struggles with Max Allegri at the helm. ............ Motta, currently managing Bologna, has garnered admiration for his coaching abilities and has become a sought-after figure in European football. Juventus, being a prestigious club, maybe an enticing prospect for Motta, especially if the need for a coaching change arises. Simone Braglia, a pundit, suggests that Motta could work effectively with Cristiano Giuntoli at Juventus. “The Bologna coach is someone with ideas and I would see him well in Turin. “Giuntoli was already following him at the time of Naples therefore an important agreement could arise between the two.” ............ 13. Hellas Verona vs. Juventus match preview Let’s see if the month of February can get a little better. No matter what the result of the second Derby d’Italia ended up being, the next few games after that massive rivalry matchup for Juventus were looked to be very favorable ones. They were not only against provincial sides, but also ones who were very much struggling and toward the bottom of the Serie A table. It was, in theory, a way to either keep pace with Inter or potentially change the scope of the Scudetto race. ............. Hellas Verona are very much in the same kind of rut that Udinese found themselves in entering Monday’s matchup in Turin. Hellas are 18th in the table and looking every bit of a threat to be relegated. They’ve won two games since the first day of September — which, when you do the math, is all of three weeks in the new Serie A season. Their two wins since September — which, for the record, have come over the last two months — have come against Italian heavyweights Cagliari (currently 19th) and Empoli (currently 16th), so it’s not like they’re pulling any sort of upset victories or anything like that. Translation: It’s basically the same thing we said last week against Udinese — the last thing Juventus need to see happen is to drop points against a provincial side that is both struggling and statistically one of the worst in the league. ............. TEAM NEWS This will be Allegri’s 406th appearance as Juventus manager, the second-highest total in the history of the club behind Giovanni Trapattoni. Just as Danilo comes back into the squad following his one-game suspension due to yellow card accumulation, fellow Brazilian defender Bremer will miss the trip to Verona due to having to serve a one-game suspension after picking up a yellow in the loss to Udinese. Dusan Vlahovic is back in the squad after missing the game against Udinese due to injury. ............. While Vlahovic is back in the traveling squad, Allegri said at his pre-match press conference he still has yet to decide who’s going to start in attack. Allegri said that January signing Carlos Alcaraz is “working well” really like’s the Argeentine’s “desire to learn and his learning ability,” but felt like the loss to Udinese was not the right game for him. “I’m happy with what he is doing,” Allegri added. Fellow January signing Tiago Djaló has yet to make his Juventus debut, but Allegri said that he “will be a useful player between now and the end of the season.” JUVENTUS PLAYER TO WATCH ............. Yes, today we are going to spend a few hundred words as we talk about Daniele Rugani, a guy who is the odds-on favorite to step in for Bremer as the hulking Brazilian serves his one-game suspension this weekend. ............. This season, Rugani’s playing time has very much been limited; he’s played all of 661 minutes over 11 appearances (six starts) in Serie A. Throw in his Coppa Italia start against Salernitana last month and Rugani’s 12 appearances have gone like this: 10 wins, two draws and just for goals conceded. Of course, all of those clean sheets are not solely because of Rugani, but it is a sign that there’s no major dropoff between the defense when Rugani’s on the bench and in the lineup. ............. The good thing in all of this is that Rugani stepping in for Bremer is happening against Hellas Verona — one of the one of the lowest-scoring teams in Serie A — and not a few weeks from now against Napoli or Atalanta. So that part is good, and in theory Hellas aren’t going to be the massive task of slowing down without Bremer as other clubs in Serie A, big or small. ............. 14. Hellas Verona vs Juventus: Preview and Prediction Juventus are in danger of drifting further away from the title race, as Massimiliano Allegri will demand an urgent win over Hellas Verona. Two teams on opposite ends of the table will take on each other, with Hellas Verona having much to lose and everything to gain should they manage a favourable result. Marco Baroni’s men could only earn a draw against Monza last weekend, which extended their winless run to four games in the division. ............ With the Bianconeri also coming into the clash in a low form, Verona might sense this is the opportunity to get something from this clash, although in truth, it’s against the odds. Massimiliano Allegri will demand nothing but a win from his players, as he would have relayed to those stars the importance of three points at the weekend. For a brief moment, Juventus went top of the league when Inter Milan were away in Saudi Arabia, but things have gone downhill for the Turin giants since. A morale-sapping draw against Empoli was followed by a direct clash with rivals Inter Milan, which Juventus lost by a single goal. While they were not much far from the San Siro rivals, last weekend’s disappointing loss to Udinese at home dealt a big blow to their chances of catching up with Inter Milan. ............. Team News & Tactics Hellas Verona ............. Probable Lineup (4-2-3-1) – Montipo; Tchatchoua, Magnani, Dawidowicz, Cabal; Duda, Serdar; Folorunsho, Suslov, Lazovic; Noslin Juventus There are some selection headaches for Allegri before he names his lineup for the Verona clash away from home. for starters, the manager will have key defender Danilo back into contention, although the Bianconeri have lost Gleison Bremer to a suspension. In terms of injuries, only Moise Kean, Mattia De Sciglio, and Mattia Perin are missing from action, as Allegri will give a good enough squad to choose from. With Bremer absent, Daniele Rugani and Federico Gatti will join Danilo in that back three. Adrien Rabiot should tag alongside Manuel Locatelli and Weston McKennie in that midfield, while Andrea Cambiaso and Filip Kostic are likely to keep hold of their wing-back position. Up front, Dusan Vlahovic is still in considerable doubt with a thigh problem, although the forward might return to the squad and feature from the bench. Allegri might also choose Federico Chiesa in place of Kenan Yildiz upfront, as the Italian will likely partner with the experienced Arkadiusz Milik in the two starting front roles. Probable Lineup (3-5-2) – Szczesny; Gatti, Rugani, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Milik, Chiesa Key Stats Verona have failed to win 20 of their last 22 matches in Serie A. Verona have failed to win any of their last 33 Serie A games against Juventus in Turin. Juventus have been drawing at half-time and winning at full-time in their last 3 matches against Verona in all competitions. Juventus have kept a clean sheet in their last 4 matches against Verona in all competitions. Juventus are winless in their last 3 Serie A games, failing to score in their last 2. Player to Watch Arkadiusz Milik ............. Prediction Hellas Verona 0-2 Juventus Verona have struggled since the turn of the year and they might continue to do so as well as keep their dreadful form against Juventus. However, while they might sense this could be the right time to face the Bianconeri, it could have the opposite effect, as Allegri will want an angry reaction from his players. However, Juventus have enough firepower to bounce back from their recent impasse and get themselves back in the title race. That could come at the expense of Verona, who are struggling and could continue to fire blanks in the league. 15. Journalist says Juventus should now focus on fighting for a top-four finish Finishing inside the top four no longer feels like a good prize to Juventus’ supporters after watching their team challenge Inter Milan for the league title for several weeks. Juve impressively maintained their challenge for several weeks before they hit a poor run of form in the last few weeks and they have now been urged to forget about winning the league. ............ While looking up, Juve must also consider those behind them as just a point separates them from AC Milan in the standings. This is why they have to start winning again and journalist Fabio Tavelli insists now is the time for them to work hard and secure a top-four finish. “When you are second you have to try to look at the one above and not the one below, but the ranking says that Juventus have lost three points on Milan and must look at fourth place and no longer first. Championship? It could only be reopened if Inter says to give it away but frankly it seems impossible to me, so I’d say it’s finished.” ............. 16. Allegri tasks his players to pay more attention to detail against Verona Winning against Hellas Verona is not negotiable for Juventus this weekend, and Max Allegri knows it as he prepares his team for the fixture. Juve’s bubble bust in their game against Empoli, and they have since gone on a three-game winless run, losing the last two. This has jeopardised their chances of winning the league, but not winning the next game could be the start of something worse. ............ Max Allegri was discussing his team’s struggles in recent games and revealed they just need to pay attention to detail on the pitch to get back to winning ways. “We will continue to play like this, three negative results are not going to change what we have done so far. THE tactical revolution of 2017 was in a different context, now there is no need to change. We paid in the details, conceding goals after the ball was inactive or starting again” ............. Verona manager expects Juventus to be on their best form tomorrow Verona manager Marco Baroni is well aware that Juventus will be determined to secure all three points when the two teams meet in Serie A tomorrow. Juventus is currently facing a challenging period with three consecutive games without a win, making the upcoming match against Verona crucial for them to regain momentum. ............ 19. Which Juventus players are at risk of leaving in the summer? The upcoming summer transfer window will be a crucial period for Juventus as they aim to continue rebuilding their squad. ............ Allegri contends that only some of his players are at the level required to make the team champions, prompting the potential departure of several Juventus players when the transfer window reopens. Paul Pogba is certain to leave at the end of the term or even before, depending on his verdict. Alongside the Frenchman, players such as Fabio Miretti, Samuel Iling-Junior, and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia will also be made available for transfer, allowing Juventus to raise funds for acquiring more established players. Moise Kean, whose loan move to Atletico Madrid failed last month, may also be offloaded as he is no longer a crucial part of the club’s plans. ............ 20. Former Juventus star explains how Yildiz can play with Chiesa Former Juventus player Emanuele Giaccherini has expressed admiration for Kenan Yildiz, who has emerged as a significant player for the Bianconeri in the current season. Yildiz had been making a notable impact on the pitch for Juventus’s youth teams and had been pushing for inclusion in the first team. ............ While Yildiz has been utilised as an alternative to players like Federico Chiesa or Dusan Vlahovic, his emergence signifies a promising future for the young talent within the Juventus ranks. Giaccherini believes the three of them could start together and explains: “The coach is Allegri, but I would have Yildiz and Chiesa play behind Vlahovic. I like Yildiz a lot, finding such a strong 18-year-old is difficult: he has personality, technical quality, he plays with the team…”. ............ 21. Juventus Eye Pair of High-Profile Veteran Midfielders Juventus are looking for some experience ahead of their Champions League return and set sights on two stars who will potentially be out of contract in June, Toni Kroos and Jorginho. The German ace has yet to decide his future. The Real Madrid linchpin is weighing his options, including an early retirement since he’s 34. If he elects to keep playing and wants a change of scenery after nine years in Spain and four with Bayern Munich, the Bianconeri will make their proposal. While the contract of Kroos runs out at the end of the season, Arsenal can pick up an option to re-up with Jorginho without negotiating with the player, which might quell Juventus’ interest. He and director Cristiano Giuntoli spent four seasons together at Napoli from 2015 to 2018. The Italian regista then moved to Chelsea for €57M and eventually to Arsenal last summer. ............
