Nedved: ‘I couldn’t join Inter’

http://www.football-italia.net/95400/nedved-‘i-couldn’t-join-inter’

Dec 8, 2016

Juventus vice-President Pavel Nedved would have gone “anywhere in the world” for Jose Mourinho, except for Inter.

The Czech midfielder was offered the chance to join the Nerazzurri for the 2009-10 season, but he retired with the Bianconeri in the summer of 2009.

“Jose struck a chord,” Nedved admitted, speaking to Idnes.

“He knew I was very attracted to the Champions League, because I’d never won it. But it couldn’t work, how could we be compatible? Not at all!

“If he’d called me from anywhere else in the world I’d have gone to him, but I couldn’t go to Inter.

“Inter won the Champions League? No problem, it was meant to be. Mourinho wanted it!”

Nedved also expanded on his reasoning, explaining he could never move to the Beneamata after the Calciopoli scandal which saw them awarded the 2006 Scudetto after Juve were stripped of it.

“In Italy they call it the ‘Scudetto di cartone’, the cardboard title. I could never have accepted such a title, I couldn’t appreciate it.”

Ex-Juventus President Agnelli fined and banned for 16 more months in second FIGC trial

10055419.jpg.webp

Former Juventus President Andrea Agnelli has been banned for 16 more months and fined €60,000 in a second FIGC trial.

Contrary to Juventus, the ex-President refused a plea bargain with Prosecutor Giuseppe Chiné at the end of May in a second FIGC trial looking into the so-called salary manoeuvres, the relationships with agents and other clubs.

Agnelli opted to go on trial, but the outcome was not satisfying as he was banned for 16 more months and received a €60,000 fine, FIGC confirmed on Monday.

The former Bianconeri President had already received a two-year ban in the first FIGC trial concerning Juventus’ artificially inflated transfer values. Juventus were docked 10 points in the first trial but escaped further sporting sanctions in the second, getting a fine of over €700,000 following a plea bargain.

Agnelli stepped down as Juventus President at the end of 2022 alongside the rest of the board of directors.

Del Piero sends a message to fans calling for him to return to Juventus

Del Piero

Juventus fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Alessandro Del Piero to the club, albeit in a non-playing capacity. The iconic Italian forward departed the club nearly a decade ago and subsequently retired from European football.

Since his retirement, Del Piero has transitioned into a role as a pundit, but he remains one of the beloved former players that Bianconeri supporters hope to see back at the Allianz Stadium. .......

Despite not having an official role within the club, Del Piero continues to be a symbol of Juventus in the hearts of its fans. He has expressed that he still feels a strong connection to the club, even without an official position.

The ex-striker said:

“I still feel like I belong to Juventus, there is no need to have a role in the club”.

Andrea Agnelli breaks silence after Court verdict on the Super League

Agnelli.jpg

Former Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has broken his silence over the European Super League after the European Court gave a verdict on their case with UEFA.

There were mixed reactions in the football world yesterday after the court ruled against UEFA and FIFA’s monopoly, essentially paving the way for another competition to be created by anyone.

Agnelli was one of the big players in the Super League and continues to support the idea.

He lost his prestigious positions at UEFA and ECA because of his support of the idea, and the turmoil at Juve saw him lose his place as the club’s president. ...............

He reacted to the news on social media using a popular lyric and wrote the intro of a famous song by U2, ‘Where the Streets Have No Name.’

Before adding: ‘Love football. Fino alla Fine.’ ...............

Is Manna’s move to Napoli a good thing for Juventus?

eofjqvcxa39u4tzzbj80.jpg

Recent reports suggest that Giovanni Manna is poised to depart Juventus for Napoli, where he is expected to assume the role of sporting director for the Partenopei.

Manna previously served in a similar capacity towards the end of last season at Juventus, filling in while the club awaited the arrival of Cristiano Giuntoli from Napoli. ...............

The implications of Manna’s departure from Juventus can be viewed in both positive and negative lights.

On one hand, Manna’s exit from Juventus provides Giuntoli with an opportunity to assemble his trusted team. On the other hand, it raises concerns that Juventus’ internal workings may become more accessible to Napoli through Manna’s insider knowledge. ...............

Juventus promote Francesco Calvo to Chief Football Officer role | Juvefc.com

Juventus director Francesco Calvo suggested it was ‘essential’ to reduce the number of teams competing in Serie A and tried to explain the ‘Italian football crisis’. ............

“For us, it’s essential that there’s a change in the format of the league with a reduction in professional teams which could, combined with a reform of the players’ contracts by introducing more flexibility, review the very concept of mutuality which supports all the lower divisions.

“In the last six years, Juventus have invested almost €500m in Serie B and Lega Pro, through the purchase of players and development bonuses.”

“The Italian football crisis starts from afar. In 2003, Juve had a turnover like all the most important clubs in Europe. Around €230-250m.

“20 years later, we have managed to double this figure, but our international rivals have quadrupled it. The main problem is that the Italian rules think it’s just a game and not an industry.”

“In light of the country’s struggling economic system, a lack of competition in the television sector, without forgetting the infrastructural issue, imagining a growth of Italian football at the highest levels is difficult.

“The elimination of the Growth Decree and the ban on sponsorship of betting companies are decisions taken outside the football system, but which weigh exclusively on it. ............

“The beginning of the crisis in football started in 1995 with the Bosman law that led to a huge imbalance in the relationship between clubs and players with an exponential increase in costs. We feel penalised.

“The Melandri Law on TV rights actually led to a halt in the growth of Italian football, and this is no accident. TV rights stopped in 2009. Serie A supports the whole system. Italian football is not sustainable, and intervention is needed to make it economically viable and stabilise it.”

Juventus Preparing to Bring Chiellini Back to the Club

chiellini.webp

Giorgio Chiellini is ready to return to Juventus after spending two years at Los Angeles FC, the first as a player and the other as a development coach. The Bianconeri will undergo substantial changes in their management in the coming weeks. The legend should be part of the additions.

Cristiano Giuntoli will appoint his former right-hand man Giuseppe Pompilio and Cesena’s director Stefano Stefanelli. The role of the former defender will be finalized later on. It’ll be closer to the front office than the squad and the coaching staff. His brother Claudio is currently managing the Next Gen team. ............

Juventus have often floated the idea of bringing in a club legend, such as Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluigi Buffon, but Chiellini has significantly better chances and has been preparing for it for a while. The Bianconeri will also hire some new scouts to replenish the department. The new head one should be Matteo Serra from PSG. Napoli’s Leonardo Mantovani and Maurizio Micheli and Genoa’s Matteo Scala are also on their radar.

Ferrero reveals Juventus filed an appeal against Ronaldo ruling

Gianluca Ferrero, chi è il presidente della Juventus? Patrimonio, stipendio e vita privata

Juventus president Gianluca Ferrero confirmed that the club has appealed the court’s decision in the infamous Cristiano Ronaldo case.

The club is holding its yearly shareholders’ assembly on Thursday, and the meeting began with a word from the Bianconeri president. The 60-year-old tackled several topics, including the club’s legal conflict with Ronaldo. ............

In the end, an arbitrary committee ruled that Juventus should pay Ronaldo half of the requested sum, approximately equalling 9.8 million euros.

Nevertheless, the Serie A giants remain defiant, so Ferrero revealed that the club’s legal team has filed an appeal against the ruling.

“We do not agree with this ruling which established a fair division of responsibility, so we challenged it at the Turin court. We do not agree with the substance of this arbitration,” said the club president. ............

Juventus CEO gives updates on shirt sponsorship talks

Maurizio Scanavino

Juventus remains without a primary shirt sponsor after ending its partnership with Jeep last season, a sponsorship that had long been a part of the club’s identity. Now, Juventus is looking for a new, high-profile brand to secure a long-term partnership, but the club has yet to find a suitable deal. Despite holding talks with several potential sponsors before the start of the current season, the club has maintained its stance of waiting for the right opportunity.

This cautious approach is strategic; as one of the most prestigious clubs in Italian and European football, Juventus doesn’t feel pressure to rush into an agreement............

Maurizio Scanavino, CEO of Juventus, recently updated fans and stakeholders on the progress of these negotiations. “We are in negotiations with several brands and companies with international interest and visibility,” he said. He added, “We are considering concluding [a sponsorship deal] by the end of this season.”

For now, Juventus has temporarily continued its partnership with Save the Children, featuring the charity’s logo on the team’s kits, and recently reached an agreement with Azimut, a financial services company, to sponsor the shirts. However, these arrangements are interim measures, as Juventus remains focused on securing a primary sponsor that meets their criteria for a long-term contract. ............

As Scanavino’s statements suggest, Juventus intends to take the necessary time to find a partnership that benefits both parties fully. Fans are understandably anxious to see Juventus with a new sponsor, but patience will likely yield a sponsorship deal that aligns with the club’s goals and stature.

Official: Juventus strike two-year agreement with new sponsor

Juventus team v Lecce

Juventus have announced an endorsement agreement with TIM who becomes the club’s newest sponsor.

The Italian telecommunications giant has long been associated with football. They had even acquired the naming rights of the league, which was commercially branded as “Serie A TIM”. However, their agreement with Lega Serie A has recently expired.

Nevertheless, the company was hellbent on staying in the football industry, so they have now struck an agreement with the country’s most popular club.

The Bianconeri made the announcement on Thursday, revealing that the two parties have penned a two-year agreement that makes TIM the club’s “premium partner”.

Juventus and TIM are delighted to announce a new two-year partnership that will see Italy’s leading telecommunications company become the club’s Premium Partner,” reads the statement posted on the club’s official website. ............

“Two companies that constantly strive for excellence, setting themselves ambitious and innovative goals.

“Always involved in the world of sport, and football in particular, we are delighted that Tim, by partnering with Juventus, has decided to have maximum visibility on the sleeve of our women’s first team and U-20 side, as a testimony to the valuable path undertaken. ............

Toulouse president Damien Comolli could become a key figure on Juventus’ new-look board, as the Bianconeri prepare for a major overhaul that is also expected to include the appointment of a new head coach following Igor Tudor’s departure.

Comolli, who previously held roles at Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool, was linked with a move to Milan last season. However, Gerry Cardinale ultimately decided against hiring him, opting to keep the Rossoneri’s management team intact. ............

Speculation is growing around Comolli’s potential arrival at the Allianz Stadium, where he would take on a prominent role in the club’s hierarchy alongside Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini. ............

Together, Comolli and Chiellini would be tasked with shaping a new era at Juventus — and one of their first key decisions could involve appointing Antonio Conte. ...........

Matteo Tognozzi is set to return to Juventus as non-playing changes continue

Tognozzi

Juventus are preparing to make significant changes to its backroom staff as it aims to address ongoing issues within the club. Multiple reports suggest that Damien Comolli is set to join the Old Lady soon, signalling a fresh approach at the board level. Alongside this, Giorgio Chiellini is expected to be promoted to a more prominent role, while Cristiano Giuntoli appears to be facing dismissal as a consequence of his recent decisions. ............

Comolli’s arrival is unlikely to be the only change at Juventus’ executive level. The club is also welcoming back Matteo Tognozzi, their former chief scout. Tognozzi spent six years at Juventus before leaving in 2023. During his tenure in Turin, he played a key role in discovering promising talents such as Dean Huijsen, Matias Soulé and Kenan Yildiz.

After a 16-month stint working at Granada, Tognozzi is reportedly set to return to Juventus, a move the club welcomes enthusiastically. ............

The current situation at Juventus requires the best possible leadership to halt the recent downturn in fortunes. Bringing in experienced and knowledgeable personnel such as Comolli and Tognozzi is part of the club’s strategy to rebuild and improve performance across all areas. ............

Juventus in emergency meeting to resolve embarrassing managerial situation

Elkann, Comolli e Chiellini a Monaco: summit Champions per il futuro Juventus

John Elkann has found himself increasingly involved in the decision-making process at Juventus, reportedly to a greater extent than he would prefer. Known for his preference to remain in the background, the Agnelli family leader typically entrusts the club’s operations to capable executives, allowing the Bianconeri to function with a degree of autonomy under strong leadership. ............

Both Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Gasperini have rejected approaches from Juventus, a development that has placed the club in an uncomfortable and unexpected position. The report states that Elkann has now called an emergency meeting with Giorgio Chiellini and Damien Comolli to address the managerial vacancy urgently.

The double rejection is being viewed as a significant blow. ............

The situation has also raised broader concerns regarding the club’s strategic leadership. There is growing disappointment among supporters and commentators alike, with particular frustration directed at Cristiano Giuntoli. Despite arriving at the club with a strong reputation as a sporting director, his recent performance has been met with criticism. Observers have expressed dissatisfaction with how the managerial search has been handled, describing the process as lacking in foresight and execution. ............

Ricky Massara could become Comolli’s right-hand man at Juventus

Ex Milan, riecco Massara: sarà il nuovo direttore sportivo del Rennes | Mercato | Calciomercato.com

Juventus are reportedly looking to add Ricky Massara to their top management to support Damien Comolli in the sporting department.

A major turmoil is currently taking place at Continassa, as Football Director Cristiano Giuntoli and his collaborators are expected to pay the price for a disappointing campaign.

Moreover, Francesco Calvo, Managing Director of Revenue and Football Development, has also asked to leave the club.

On the other hand, Damien Comolli has resigned from his post as Toulouse president, as he’s expected to be appointed Juventus general director on Monday.

The Frenchman may need a right-hand man who helps him run the football department, thus rekindling the old partnership between Giuseppe Marotta and Fabio Paratici.

Juventus have identified Massara as the right man for the job. ............

Therefore, it remains to be seen if the experienced director would make his return to Italian football through the Bianconeri gates.

It should also be noted that Juventus have brought back their former Chief  Scout, Matteo Tognozzi, following a two-year spell at Granada. ............

Juventus targets ex-Bayern director to replace Giuntoli

Hasan Salihamidzic

Juventus is preparing to part ways with Cristiano Giuntoli as their sporting director, and an official statement is expected once the financial details of his departure have been finalised. Giuntoli joined the club in the summer of 2023 after leading Napoli to domestic success, having played a key role in assembling the squad that secured the Scudetto.

The Bianconeri made a significant effort to lure him to Turin, and he eventually pushed for a release from Napoli to take up the position. ............

However, expectations shifted in his second term. With more financial backing and greater responsibility, he was entrusted with shaping the team for the future. He also appointed a new manager, chosen to lead Juventus to the next level of performance. Unfortunately, the results fell short. ............

At a club like Juventus, such underperformance carries serious consequences. The club is known for its high standards, and failure to meet those standards often results in swift action. ............

Plans are already being made for his replacement, and several names are believed to be under review. Among those is Hasan Salihamidzic, formerly of Bayern Munich, who is reportedly one of the top candidates being considered. Juventus intends to appoint someone with a proven track record who can align with their ambitions for future success. ............

Juve to appoint François Modesto as their new technical director

Francois Modesto, sports area technical consultant of AC...

We are a month removed from Juventus parting ways with Cristiano Giuntoli and bringing aboard Damien Comolli to lead the reshaping of the club’s sporting area. While Comolli will be the figure head of the new front office, he made it perfectly clear that he will be bringing in more than one or two voices to work alongside as they try to rebuild Juventus. ............

According to just about every major outlet in Italy on Friday, Juventus are set to appoint former Monza director François Modesto as their new technical director. That word before the “director” is key considering Comolli has previously mentioned that he would like to hire a technical director as well as a sporting director after he himself was first hired last month. ............

Modesto, who last worked with Monza when the then-Silvio Berlusconi-owned side was first promoted to Serie A three years ago, was linked with a move to Roma to become their new sporting director. It never materialized, with Roma deciding to hire a different Frenchman, Florent Ghisolfi, who has since already left the club within the last year.

A former defender who played in Italy with Cagliari and Modena, most of Modesto’s playing career came in France with Monaco and Bastia. When Roma had interest in him for their sporting director role last summer, Modesto’s knowledge of Serie A and the Italian transfer market as a whole was one of his biggest reported strengths. ............

Comolli finally picks the new Juventus Technical Director

Francois Modesto during his time at Monza

Juventus have identified Francois Modesto as their new Technical Director, according to several sources in the Italian media.

The Bianconeri have been revamping their sporting department this summer, as the club’s former Football Director, Cristiano Giuntoli and his collaborators left the club after a disappointing campaign. ............

The former Toulouse president Comolli has seemingly identified his compatriot, Modesto, as the ideal candidate for the Technical Director.

While the club has yet to make any official announcement in this regard, several sources in the Italian press believe the decision has already been made. ............

Modesto was born and raised in Bastia, and he started his playing career at his hometown club. He then went to represent Cagliari, Monaco and Olympiacos, but his career went full circle as he returned to Bastia in 2013 for his final stint, before calling it a day in 2016.

The 46-year-old was then appointed at Olympiacos first as a sporting director, and then as the head of scouting. Afterwards, he served as Technical Director at Nottingham Forest and Monza, but has been unattached since January 2025.

Modesto will act as the link between head coach Igor Tudor and the Juventus management, and will also be involved in the scouting thanks to his expertise in this department.

Serie A giants Juventus have confirmed in an official statement that ex-Monza director Modesto has been appointed as the club’s new Technical Director.

“Juventus is delighted to welcome François Modesto, who will serve as the Club’s Technical Director starting today, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, reporting directly to General Manager Damien Comolli,” the Bianconeri said in a statement. ............

“Forty-seven years old in just over a month – on August 19 – François Modesto was born in Bastia and, after a career as a footballer spanning nearly twenty years, from 1997 to 2016, he immediately decided to embark on a career in management, holding senior positions in Greece, England and Italy. Modesto spent a significant portion of his career in Italy, first on the pitch and then behind the desk, gaining a thorough understanding of Italian football in all its facets. ............

Juventus General Manager Damien Comolli said: “I am delighted to welcome François to our organisation. His role will be central in coordinating the Technical Area (Match Analysis, Medical Department, Performance and Psychology), as well as Igor Tudor’s staff, helping to strengthen the club’s sporting identity.

“The choice of François is the result of careful consideration: we believe that his experience, gained in diverse and competitive environments, and his knowledge of Italian football, can make an immediate and lasting contribution to Juventus’ growth.” ............

Modesto added: “Joining such a prestigious club is both an honour and a great responsibility. Juventus has an extraordinary history and a winning culture that I deeply admire. I am thrilled to begin this new journey, working closely with Damien, Coach Igor Tudor, and the entire staff to build an ambitious, modern and successful project. I will dedicate all my experience and commitment to contributing to Juventus’ success, both in Italy and in Europe.” ............

Juventus will begin preparation for the new season on July 24 at their training centre, Continassa, in Turin.

Their debut Serie A match in the 2025-26 season will be at home against Parma, precisely one month later, on August 24.

Atalanta BC v Juventus - Serie A TIM

With the Club World Cup over and done with and full focus now on the summer transfer window ahead, Juventus’ front office appears to be taking shape (a little bit later than some would have liked but done nonetheless).

Damien Comolli appears to have found one half of the technical and sporting director duo that he spoke about at his introductory press conference. And it appears that the second half of that duo, the sporting director part, might be close to being finalized as well. ............

a familiar name has reemerged as the favorite to become Juventus’ new sporting director. It is that of Matteo Tognozzi, who was linked with a move to the club prior to the Club World Cup but saw those rumors fade when he was expected to move to the Premier League. Tognozzi was reportedly in advanced talks with Arsenal over a senior recruitment role, according to The Athletic in early June, but six weeks later nothing has officially happened. And Juventus could well end up beng the beneficiary of that as they try to bring in a sporting director as we sit here a month and a half away from the 2025-26 season getting underway.

Tognozzi was previously head of scouting at Juve before going to Spanish side Granada to become their sporting director in November 2023. ............

If he is appointed as Juventus’ sporting director this summer, it would complete the fornt office that Comolli set out to put together when he first became the club’s general manager in June. ............

Tognozzi was previously at Juventus for nearly 6 12 years from 2017 to when he left for Granada in 2023. During that time, Juve started up their Next Gen program, and Tognozzi played a big role in identifying some of the big talents that they signed from outside of Italy to join the primavera and then U-23 side in Serie C — most notably Matias Soulé and Dean Huijsen. ............
