HT 1-2: Sassuolo fighting back with Juventus

Immagine

Jul 15, 2020

Juventus struck twice in 12 minutes, but Sassuolo have dominated the rest of the first half and it’s 2-1 going into the break.

It was a perfect start for Maurizio Sarri’s men, as a Miralem Pjanic corner was taken short to the edge of the box, where totally unmarked Danilo could blast it into the top corner. That was a fine way for the Brazilian to celebrate his birthday.

The Sassuolo defence was caught out again soon after, as Higuain ran on to a Pjanic through ball, sprung the offside trap and could beat Andrea Consigli one-on-one. ....

Sassuolo 3-3 Juventus: Juve held in six-goal thriller

Immagine

Jul 15, 2020

Juventus went from 2-0 up to 3-2 down and were ultimately grateful for a point in this six-goal thriller with Sassuolo, as Wojciech Szczesny performed heroics.

The Neroverdi were on a run of four consecutive victories, including a comeback to beat Lazio at the weekend. That result, and two handball penalties for a 2-2 draw with Atalanta, allowed Juve to go eight points clear at the top of the Serie A table. Juan Cuadrado was suspended, with Mattia De Sciglio and Sami Khedira injured, but Giorgio Chiellini and Gonzalo Higuain were back in the starting XI. Sassuolo missed Rogerio, Gregoire Defrel, Pedro Obiang and Filippo Romagna.

It was a perfect start for Maurizio Sarri’s men, as a Miralem Pjanic corner was taken short to the edge of the box, where totally unmarked Danilo could blast it into the top corner. That was a fine way for the Brazilian to celebrate his birthday.

Sarri: 'Juventus can leave you perplexed'

224654476-58067657-7952-46b5-b44d-c3a15d

Jul 15, 2020

Maurizio Sarri admits Juventus ‘seem to have enormous potential, and at other times leave you perplexed’ after a 3-3 thriller with Sassuolo.

The Bianconeri went 2-0 up within 12 minutes thanks to Danilo and Gonzalo Higuain goals, but Sassuolo came back to lead 3-2 and could’ve won it at the death if not for Wojciech Szczesny heroics and an Alex Sandro goal-line clearance.

“A coach expects consistency from his team, it’s something we’ve been lacking both physically and mentally. We have some very strong moments in a match and some moments of passivity that are difficult to understand,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.

This was their third game in a row without victory, after a 4-2 defeat to Milan - where they had also gone 2-0 up - and 2-2 draw with Atalanta.

“We’ve been up against teams in remarkable form recently and Sassuolo are no different, as they’d won four in a row and if they consolidate, they can become the Atalanta of the future. ....

JUVENTUS LAUNCH FUTSAL PROJECT WITHIN THEIR ACADEMY LEAD BY ALESSIO MUSTI

Ballon Juventus Turin Capitano: Amazon.nl

Jul 16, 2020

Guaranteeing the best to its young people, to transform the experience at Juventus into a period of exponential growth: the goal of the Juventus youth sector has always been this, with extreme attention to the needs of each boy and to the methodologies used to coach. In this latter aspect, this year, there is an important development: the Futsal project.

The idea was born from the desire to integrate the two disciplines – soccer and futsal starting from the basic activity so as to make the growth path of young players even more complete, providing them with all the skills that futsal manages to broadcast. The project addresses age groups from Under 7 to Under 14: each age group will carry out specific weekly training.

Leading the project is Alessio Musti, a former futsal player, with three titles and six Italian Cups, and technical commissioner of the National team, as well as a teacher for UEFA courses on the methodology of futsal. A methodology when integrated with those already present at the Juventus youth sector, it’s aim is to improve the standard of the average player. ....

Sarri: 'I want to stay at Juve'

Sarri: "Voglio andare avanti con la Juve"

Jul 19, 2020

Maurizio Sarri remains impressed by Lazio, discusses his Juventus future and why he must balance the trident attack so they ‘do their duties and don’t leave the defence exposed.’

It kicks off on Monday at 20.45 UK time (19.45 GMT), click here for a match preview.

“Lazio have had a fantastic season and proved themselves to be a great team,” assured Sarri in his press conference.

“In a one-off match, they can cause problems for any opponent and we have always struggled against them.” .....

“I have a contract and I want to honour it. Look, my future is tomorrow, we must take it one game at a time and the rest is merely a consequence. There are difficulties working in all clubs. There’s probably more media pressure here, while in Naples it’s more of a localised issue, but football is difficult everywhere you go. ....

Juventus 2-1 Lazio: Ronaldo at the double

Immagine

Jul 20, 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace took Juventus a step closer to the Serie A title and put him level with Ciro Immobile, who also converted a penalty for Lazio, in the Capocannoniere charts. ....

Moments later, Bastos clumsily charged down Ronaldo’s shot with his arm and the referee awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. However, VAR showed his arm was inside the box and it was therefore yet another handball penalty. Ronaldo converted, even though Strakosha almost got his hand to it, to give Juventus the lead and become the first player to score 50 goals in Serie A, the Premier League and La Liga.

Lazio crumbled psychologically, as Luiz Felipe was caught horribly in possession in the centre-circle by Dybala, who sprinted forward and generously rolled it across for Ronaldo to tap in. That allowed him to leapfrog Immobile and go top of the Capocannoniere charts on 30 goals, the first Juve player to score 30 since John Hansen in 1951-52.

CR7 wanted a hat-trick and almost got it, but his header thumped the crossbar on another delightful Dybala floated cross after getting away from Bastos. ....

Possible Scudetto party in Udine

Immagine

Jul 21, 2020

Juventus could mathematically celebrate the 2019-20 Serie A title on Thursday, but only if Inter don’t beat Fiorentina first.

Their 2-1 victory over Lazio last night put the Bianconeri eight points clear of Inter at the top of the table.

Because they have a superior head-to-head record with Inter, it means that if these teams were to finish level, Juve would still come out on top.

Goal difference is only used in Italy if the head-to-head record, and goal difference within those two games, are both equal.

Inter lost both home and away in their fixtures with Juventus this term, 2-1 in October and 2-0 in March.

That means Juventus need four points to be sure of their ninth consecutive Scudetto. ....

Sarri: 'Dybala had back problem'

Immagine

Jul 21, 2020

Maurizio Sarri reveals why Paulo Dybala wasn’t going to start against Lazio, what makes Cristiano Ronaldo world class and his career path. ‘Becoming a great European coach was not my intention.’

Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock with a penalty after Bastos charged down a shot with his arm right on the edge of the area, then made the most of a Paulo Dybala assist from disastrous Luiz Felipe error.

The result means Juventus are now eight points clear of Inter, with a superior head-to-head record, and only four rounds still to play.

“As I’ve always said, talking about an opportunity to win is like a chance to score a goal. It means nothing unless the objective is achieved. We need to get another four points, every point is difficult at the moment playing every three days, so we’ve got to keep focused,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia. ....

Antonio Conte has accepted that Inter ‘must look at Juventus’ if they want to challenge for the Scudetto next season. ....

“The league has certainly become more competitive if you look at the numbers of the other teams, who have improved in terms of quality.

“The league is becoming more and more difficult, so we must always try to improve with the fixed objective of the Champions League and, from next season, winning the Scudetto too.

“It’s right to look at Juventus, who have dominated Italy for nine years. They’re still the best now. We must look at the best if we want to improve, no doubt.” ....

Sarri: 'Almost winning is meaningless'

Ex-Chelsea boss Sarri accused of 'betrayal' for joining Juventus ...

Jul 22, 2020

Maurizio Sarri reiterates that ‘almost’ securing the ninth consecutive Serie A title for Juventus is ‘meaningless’ and tries to focus on the trip to Udinese.

It kicks off on Thursday at 18.30 UK time (17.30 GMT), click here for a match preview.

The Bianconeri are almost there for the Scudetto, as if Inter don’t beat Fiorentina tonight, they can mathematically clinch the title with a win in Udine.

“I am a man of sport, which means that ‘almost’ is meaningless,” said the coach in his press conference.

“Why am I still criticised? Evidently I get on someone’s nerves! I’m not particularly interested, I know the difficulties we face daily and I think we’ve got more data on our side than those who express opinions.” ....

Juventus lead 1-0 at half-time thanks to a great strike by Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt, as Udinese have proved a stern test at the Dacia Arena.

Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey picked up one of the quickest yellow cards of the season, after only 25 seconds, as the visitors controlled the tempo early on.

Cristiano Ronaldo tested Juan Musso after four minutes, but it was a half of few chances in Udine. Danilo was the closest, but at the wrong end, deflecting a cross from Ken Sema off the post. ....

In the 42nd minute Juventus broke the deadlock through Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch defender picked up the clearance and smashed it in the bottom corner.

Udinese 2-1 Juventus: Fofana spoils the party

Jul 23, 2020

Juventus threw another lead out the window as Udinese turned the match in the second half with two great goals by Ilija Nestorovski and Seko Fofana.

In the 42nd minute Juventus broke the deadlock through Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch defender picked up the clearance and smashed it in the bottom corner.

Udinese came out after the break with an intention to stop the party, desperate to get something from the game with the reigning champions.

Fighting for their lives, Ken Sema gets the ball at the left and whips it beautifully into the far post. Ilija Nestorovski has found space, unmarked as Alex Sandro is not tracking back and his diving header finds the net to equalise De Ligt’s opener.

When it all looked to end with a 1-1 draw at the Dacia, Udinese won the ball back with Becao and sent Fofana running. He brushed off the challenges and gave the home side three vital points in the relegation battle as he slotted it under Wojciech Szczesny and spoiled the party for Juventus.

Sarri: 'Juventus lost organisation'

224535944-b90f7050-4603-4123-ad83-d5646c

Jul 23, 2020

Maurizio Sarri admits Juventus tend to ‘lose our organisation and shape’ after a 2-1 defeat to Udinese. ‘Games are strange after the lockdown.’

The Bianconeri fumbled 18 points from leading situations in Serie A this season and had gone in front at the Dacia Arena with a Matthijs de Ligt strike, but Ilija Nestorovski’s diving header and a Seko Fofana counter-attack in stoppages turned it all around.

“That’s what is happening lately, we’ve lost our organisation and shape,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We had a good first half performance, conceded the equaliser and wanted to win at all costs, which is why we started to get too disorganised and loose.

“It was our desire to win that made it a more dangerous approach and we lost it at the 93rd precisely because we wanted to win at all costs.” ....

Juventus could win title without playing

Juve, lo scudetto 'dal divano' non è possibile: come e quando può vincerlo

Jul 24, 2020

Juventus need three more points to win the Scudetto, but a series of results interconnected could give them the title before they even play Sampdoria on Sunday. ....

There is even a scenario where Juventus could start celebrating in the team hotel before even setting foot on to the pitch with Sampdoria on Sunday.

If Atalanta lose to Milan, while both Inter and Lazio fail to win their games against Genoa and Verona respectively, then Juventus will be mathematically champions regardless.

This is because Juve have a superior head-to-head record with all the other teams in the top four, so if they finish level on points, the Bianconeri will get the upper hand. ....

No Juve party at Villar Perosa

Juve, il coronavirus cancella la festa di Villar Perosa: è la prima volta in 61 anni

Jul 24, 2020

Juventus have been forced to cancel their traditional party at Villar Perosa for the first time in 61 years.

The Bianconeri have officially announced the cancellation of the event through a letter sent by President Andrea Agnelli to the mayor of Villar Perosa.

“I inform you with much regret, since the conditions aren’t there this year, that you will not be able to hold the traditional ‘family party’ at the sports centre of Villar Perosa,” Agnelli wrote. ....

Sarri: 'Prefer to lose when trying to win'

MILAN-JUVENTUS CONFERENZA STAMPA PRE PARTITA DI SARRI - TUTTOJUVE.NET

Jul 25, 2020

Maurizio Sarri admits he’d rather lose to Udinese by attacking too fervently rather than passively accept a draw, as Juventus host Sampdoria. ‘I prefer that.’

It kicks off on Sunday at 20.45 UK time (19.45 GMT), click here for a match preview.

The Bianconeri could’ve already been Champions of Italy midweek, but they fumbled yet another lead and lost 2-1 away to Udinese.

“We want to achieve our objective without losing our heads. We’ve got until August 2 to reach our goal and, as I’ve always said, getting close to it counts for absolutely nothing,” said the coach in his press conference.

“Fitness work is all the same for teams at the moment, which is non-existent, because we play every 72 hours. It’s impossible to do anything in these conditions. ....

Juventus v Sampdoria Match Preview

Sampdoria-AWAY.jpg

Jul 25, 2020

The Bianconeri are finding new ways of shooting themselves in the foot as, while mental lapses after scoring and thus giving away leads is nothing new, a late cheap goal while the squad hastily tries to score had not been seen in a while. Giving up two goals to Udinese, who barely bothered attacking and were pinned to their box in three-quarters of the game is inexcusable and the focus of some members of the back-line is just too seesawing for it to return to elite levels. The players have gone through several meetings, but you have to wonder about what they discussed since the blunders have stayed the same throughout the season.

While the Scudetto is eventually going to be bagged, at this point it is pretty ludicrous to think that the current version of the team has any chance of coming out on top in the Champions League’s gauntlet. We knew it was going to be a bizarro season after so much stability in previous years, and the weirdness reached astronomical levels because of the pandemic, but the other Serie A teams should be kicking themselves for not taking advantage of such a golden opportunity. ......

Probable lineup 4-3-3: Szczesny; Cuadrado, De Ligt, Bonucci, Sandro; Ramsey, Bentancur, Rabiot; Bernardeschi, Higuain, Ronaldo.

Probable lineup 4-4-2: Audero; Bereszysnki, Yoshida, Tonelli, Murru; Thorsby, Linetty, Bertolacci, Jankto; Gabbiadini, Quagliarella.
