HT 1-0: Ronaldo breakthrough for damaged Juve

Immagine

Jul 26, 2020

Juventus lost Danilo and Paulo Dybala to injury, but Cristiano Ronaldo has given them the half-time lead over Sampdoria with a free kick routine.

The Bianconeri wasted the chance to win the Scudetto on Thursday, losing 2-1 at Udinese, and had the same opportunity here. Juan Cuadrado was moved up into attack, with Douglas Costa, Sami Khedira, Mattia De Sciglio and Giorgio Chiellini injured, Gonzalo Higuain only fit for the bench. .....

Juve had a free kick from the edge of the box deep into first half stoppages and they used a training ground routine to break the deadlock. Pjanic rolled it across for Ronaldo’s right-foot strike into the far bottom corner, swept with the inside of the boot.

Sarri: 'If Juve won with me, they must be good!'

002843852-df27a5de-0784-43d1-8eda-0c6e17

Jul 26, 2020

Maurizio Sarri explains the feeling of winning his first league title, why he took some time to ‘tweak’ Juventus and what he told the players. ‘If you won with me, you must be really good!’

This was his first major title after the Europa League with Chelsea, and he became the oldest coach ever to win the Scudetto, aged 61 years and six months.

He ran off to the dressing room straight after the final whistle, as he seemingly wanted to smoke a cigarette and avoid getting foamed by his players, but appeared to achieve neither of those aims.

“It has a special feeling, of course. It’s difficult to win, it becomes even more complicated to keep winning, as taking something for granted in sport is one of the biggest lies in the world,” he told Sky Sport Italia. ....

Ronaldo travels to Sardinia

Immagine

Jul 29, 2020

Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri has decided to bring Cristiano Ronaldo for today’s trip to Sardinia and the Portuguese superstar will be accompanied by eight youngsters.

The Old Lady secured their ninth consecutive Scudetto on Sunday and were expected to make big changes ahead of the match against Cagliari tonight.

Reports in Italy claimed Ronaldo, who is currently three goals behind Lazio striker Ciro Immobile in the Capocannoniere battle, could be rested and stay in Turin this week.

The 35-year-old superstar has been picked for the last away game in Serie A 2019-20 but the list of absentees comes as no surprise. ....

Juventus vs. Cagliari match preview

Sarri's Pros and Cons and Cagliari Scouting -Juvefc.com

Jul 29, 2020

In a “normal” year, like the previous eight have generally been, the game after Juventus winning the Scudetto would be one where we don’t stress much because we know the job has been done. We expect squad rotation, we expect a whole lot of players who haven’t played much and we expect planning for the future if there is a Coppa Italia final or some kind of Champions League knockout round in the not-so-distant future to play.

But there’s a catch with this season: Juventus has been going full bore for the last two-plus months, and there’s still an unknown amount of Champions League football still to be played, starting Aug. 7 against Lyon. ....

Juventus have an experimental line-up for their trip to Cagliari, starting Gigi Buffon, Simone Muratore, Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo.

It kicks off at the Sardegna Arena at 20.45 UK time (19.45 GMT).

The Bianconeri have already won their ninth consecutive Serie A title, but Ronaldo is still chasing Ciro Immobile for the Capocannoniere crown.

CR7 will not rest, so he leads the attack with Higuain – whose record Immobile might be about to break – and Federico Bernardeschi. ....

Cagliari 2-0 Juventus: Scudetto hangover

Immagine

Jul 29, 2020

Juventus were clearly sated from their Serie A title celebrations and were beaten 2-0 by Cagliari, as 20-year-old debutant Luca Gagliano scored and provided the assist for Giovanni Simeone.

The Bianconeri had already won the Scudetto, but Cristiano Ronaldo refused rest so he could continue chasing Ciro Immobile in the Capocannoniere charts. Adrien Rabiot was suspended, with Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa, Danilo, Mattia De Sciglio and Sami Khedira injured. Cagliari had Nahitan Nandez sitting out a ban, also missing Radja Nainggolan, Luca Pellegrini, Christian Oliva and Leonardo Pavoletti.

The Sardinians gave 20-year-old Luca Gagliano his Serie A debut and he scored within eight minutes at the Sardegna Arena. It was a sweeping move, as Federico Mattiello volleyed a cross back in from the left and Gagliano flung himself at it to poke in from close range. Gigi Buffon is over twice the age of the player who scored against him. .....

Ronaldo was trying strikes from every angle, but always finding Cragno ready.

Zanimacchia even tried a lob from a good 30 metres out, but Cragno back-pedalled to palm it out from under the bar when falling backwards.

Cagliari: Cragno; Walukiewicz, Ceppitelli, Klavan; Faragò, Rog (Paloschi 48), Ionita, Mattiello; Joao Pedro (Pereiro 88), Simeone (Birsa 84), Gagliano (Lykogiannis 46)

Juventus: Buffon; Cuadrado, Bonucci, Rugani, Alex Sandro; Bentancur (Peeters 76), Pjanic (Zanimacchia 61), Muratore (Matuidi 61); Bernardeschi, Higuain (Olivieri 88), Ronaldo

Juve lose to Cagliari as Ronaldo's Golden Boot hopes fade - Reuters

Jul 29, 2020

Cagliari pulled off a shock against Juventus in Serie A on Wednesday night, winning 2-0 in Sardinia to sour the Bianconeri’s title celebrations.

The Isolani managed their first win in 19 Serie A outings against the champions and in doing so sentenced The Old Lady to their first post title-winning defeat in the last nine seasons.

First half goals from full debutant Luca Gagliano and Giovanni Simeone were enough for Walter Zenga’s side to claim their first Serie A victory in nine as Juventus struggled to get going throughout. .....

Sarri: 'Juventus need to rest now'

Intervista Sarri post Cagliari-Juventus 2-0. - YouTube

Jul 29, 2020

Maurizio Sarri admits he’s ready to play the Juventus Under-23 squad against Roma following a 2-0 defeat to Cagliari. ‘We’re playing five times in 12 days.’

The Bianconeri had already secured the Serie A title and rotated the squad for this trip to Sardinia, but were still hoping for better than a 2-0 defeat, decided by 20-year-old Luca Gagliano and Giovanni Simeone.

“The problem is that that we are the only team in Europe who will have to play five times in 12 days,” Sarri told DAZN.

“We’ll see how we are tomorrow and whether we ought to field the Under-23 team in its entirety at the weekend, so that everyone can get a bit of rest.”

The attention inevitably moves towards the Champions League Round of 16 clash with Lyon on August 7, especially as their final Serie A opponents Roma have already secured fifth place. ....

Sarri: 'Dybala recovering well'

CONFERENZA STAMPA SARRI PRE JUVENTUS ROMA - YouTube

Jul 31, 2020

Maurizio Sarri has not yet decided whether to completely rotate his Juventus squad against Roma, but hopes to have Paulo Dybala and Aaron Ramsey back against Lyon.

It kicks off on Saturday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT), click here for a match preview.

The coach had suggested using the Under-23 team in this final game of the Serie A season, having already won the Scudetto and lost 2-0 at Cagliari midweek.

“We’ll evaluate today and tomorrow morning. Those who need to rest will be allowed to do so, those who can play will go on to the pitch,” said Sarri in his press conference.

“I wasn’t complaining about the fixture list, I just pointed out a fact, that we played five times in 12 days. I am fully aware of the difficulties in drawing up the calendar in these circumstances, but I was not trying to change anything, I just said we had to adapt to the situation.” ....

Cristiano Ronaldo, Matthijs de Ligt and suspended Miralem Pjanic are out of the Juventus squad to face Roma this evening, but Merih Demiral could make his comeback.

It kicks off at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT), click here for a match preview.

The Bianconeri have already secured their ninth consecutive Scudetto and are resting players ahead of the Champions League clash with Lyon.

With that in mind, coach Maurizio Sarri had threatened to just field the Under-23 team and that may well largely be the case.

He has decided to give Ronaldo and De Ligt the night off, although they’ll be in the stadium for the ceremony awarding them the Serie A trophy after the game. ....

Juventus 1-3 Roma: Serie A champions lift the trophy despite home defeat

Aug 1, 2020

Juventus lost their unbeaten home record in the final game of the season, as Roma fought back to defeat an experimental side, ending a run of eight consecutive defeats here.

The Bianconeri transformed their squad after securing the ninth consecutive Scudetto, so Cristiano Ronaldo and Matthijs de Ligt were not even on the bench, with Paulo Dybala, Douglas Costa, Sami Khedira and Mattia De Sciglio injured, Miralem Pjanic suspended. Roma also had an experimental line-up, Gianluca Mancini banned, Lorenzo Pellegrini unavailable. Nicolò Zaniolo was given his first start since tearing his ACL against Juventus in January, while Daniel Fuzato and Riccardo Calafiori got their Serie A debuts.

It took just five minutes for the Bianconeri to break through, as a corner was hit low, Adrien Rabiot flicked it on and Gonzalo Higuain turned in at the back post unmarked. ....

Sarri: 'Different Juve with Lyon'

0e98650648f538e21f881bc97bc3a39a-72972-1

Aug 2, 2020

Maurizio Sarri has ‘discovered patience’ while working for Juventus, but warns there are still too many unknown elements in the Champions League with Lyon.

The Bianconeri inevitably took their foot off the gas after securing their ninth consecutive Scudetto and rested numerous players in the 3-1 home defeat to Roma.

This attitude simply won’t be sufficient in the Champions League, as they must overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit against Olympique Lyonnais.

“We must recharge our mental and physical batteries. We did rather let go in the last few games, as perhaps after beating Lazio we felt as if the job was done, but it’s much harder to get that focus back,” Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.

“A little fear might do us good. We have to get back to feeling like it’s a real game with genuine consequences, but I have no doubts we will have a completely different attitude to the one we’ve seen in the last few games.” .....

“I watched Lyon for much of their game with PSG and was surprised at how good their fitness levels were. The problem with these entirely anomalous situations is that we don’t know how they will affect teams. I don’t know if we’ll be in better shape or they will. .....

Sarri: 'Juve will have already decided on me'

Juventus, Sarri: «Scudetto? È successo di tutto, merito del gruppo»

Aug 6, 2020

Maurizio Sarri admits Juventus will be ‘forced to play a game that most suits’ Lyon’s counter-attacking approach, but insists the Bianconeri will have 'already decided' his future.

The first leg ended 1-0 for the French side in February and the Champions League Round of 16 decider is behind closed doors in Turin on Friday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

“We need a great performance, certainly. Lyon have evolved and become far more solid since moving to three at the back, playing with density in midfield and also pace on the counter.

“With the first leg result too, it’s a very tough game we need to approach with calm and focus,” said the coach in his press conference.

“Unfortunately, losing the first leg means we are forced to play a game that most suits their approach to the counter-attack. Memphis Depay is an important player to get back, so it’s very difficult, but still entirely possible. .....

Maurizio Sarri remains unsure if Paulo Dybala will play a role in Juventus Champions League clash against Lyon this week.

The Serie A champions are looking to overturn a 1-0 aggregate deficit when they host the French side in the second leg of their last-16 tie on Friday. ......

“He's still in the hands of the medics but we'll see what he can do tomorrow morning,” he told reporters on Thursday. “Then I'll talk to him and the doctors about what he's able to do.” .....

Dybala in Juventus squad for Lyon

Immagine

Aug 7, 2020

Paulo Dybala is in the Juventus squad to face Lyon this evening, but it’ll be very surprising if he starts the Champions League game.

The first leg ended 1-0 to Lyon in France back in February and the Round of 16 decider kicks off in Turin tonight at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

Dybala did take part in some of the training session yesterday, but not in the full squad routine.

It’s therefore considered unlikely he will be in the starting XI this evening, so soon after a muscular injury, but he could still come off the bench. .....
